ੴਸਤਿਗੁਰਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ॥

ਆਪਨੜੈਹਥਿਆਰਸੀਆਪੇਹੀਦੇਖੈ।
(ਈਸ਼੍ਵਰ ਦੇ) ਆਪਣੇ ਹੱਥ ਹੀ (ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦਾ) ਸ਼ੀਸ਼ਾ ਹੈ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਦੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ।
The mirror (in the form of world) is in the hand (of the Lord) and man sees of himself in it.
ਆਪੇਦੇਖਿਦਿਖਾਇਦਾਛਿਅਦਰਸਨਿਭੇਖੈ।
ਆਪ ਦੇਖਕੇ (ਭਾਵ ਰਚ ਕੇ ਫੇਰ) ਛੀ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਭੇਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਸਾਰੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਦਿਖਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
God visualises and makes men see the guises and philosophies of six Schools (in this mirror).
ਜੇਹਾਮੂਹੁਕਰਿਭਾਲਿਦਾਤੇਵੇਹੈਲੇਖੈ।
(ਅੱਗੋਂ) ਜੇਹਾ (ਕੋਈ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਖੇ) ਮੂੰਹ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਦੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇਹਾ ਹੀ ਲੇਖੇ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Man is reflected (in the mirror) in exactly the same way as is his propensity.
ਹਸਦੇਹਸਦਾਦੇਖੀਐਸੋਰੂਪਸਰੇਖੈ।
ਹੱਸਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਹੱਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸੇ ਰੂਪ ਸਾਰਖਾ (ਪ੍ਰਤਿਬਿੰਬ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ)।
The laughing person finds a laughing form in it.
ਰੋਦੈਦਿਸੈਰੋਵਦਾਹੋਏਨਿਮਖਨਿਮੇਖੈ।
ਰੋਂਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਰੋਂਦਾ ਦਿਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੇ ਪਲਕਾਂ ਮਾਰਕੇ ਦੇਖੇ (ਤਾਂ ਅੱਗੋਂ ਬੀ ਉਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਮਟੱਕੇ ਵੱਜਦੇ ਦਿੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ।
Whereas the wailing person finds himself (as well as everybody) there in the weeping posture. Same is the case of a clever person.
ਆਪੇਆਪਿਵਰਤਦਾਸਤਿਸੰਗਿਵਿਸੇਖੈ।੧।
ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪ (ਸਾਰੇ) ਵਰਤਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਪ੍ਰੰਤੂ) ਸਤਿਸੰਗ (ਵਿਚ) ਵਿਸ਼ੇਖ (ਹੋ ਕੇ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਹੈ) ਹੈ।
The Lord Himself is prevading this world-mirror but He is specifically preceivable in and through the holy congregation.
ਜਿਉਜੰਤ੍ਰੀਹਥਿਜੰਤ੍ਰੁਲੈਸਭਿਰਾਗਵਜਾਏ।
ਜਿੱਕੁਰ ਵਾਜੇ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ ਵਾਜਾ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਰਾਗ ਵਜਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
The Lord resembles to an instrumentalist who holding the instrument in his hand plays all the different measures on it.
ਆਪੇਸੁਣਿਸੁਣਿਮਗਨੁਹੋਇਆਪੇਗੁਣਗਾਏ।
ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸੁਣ ਸੁਣਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਉਸਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Listening to the tunes played he remain immersed in them and eulogises the Supreme.
ਸਬਦਿਸੁਰਤਿਲਿਵਲੀਣੁਹੋਇਆਪਿਰੀਝਿਰੀਝਾਏ।
(ਫੇਰ) ਸਬਦ ਸੁਰਤ ਦੀ ਤਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਮਗਨ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਰੀਝਕੇ (ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਰੀਝਾਉਂਦਾ ਅਰਥਾਤ) ਖੁਸ਼ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Merging his consciousness in the Word he becomes elated and makes others also delighted.
ਕਥਤਾਬਕਤਾਆਪਿਹੈਸੁਰਤਾਲਿਵਲਾਏ।
ਆਪ ਹੀ ਕਥਤਾ (ਹੋਕੇ ਕਥਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ) ਤੇ ਬਕਤਾ (ਬੋਲਣ ਵਾਲਾ।) ਹੋ ਕੇ (ਗ੍ਯਾਨ ਗੋਦੜੀ ਲਾਉਂਦਾ ਤੇ ਸੁਰਤਾ ਗ੍ਯਾਨੀ ਹੋਕੇ (ਅਥਵਾ, ਸ਼੍ਰੋਤਾ=ਸੁਣਨੇ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੋਕੇ) ਨਿਰਵਿਕਲਪ ਸਮਾਧੀ ਲਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Lord is the speaker as well as the listener immersed in super consciousness.
ਆਪੇਹੀਵਿਸਮਾਦੁਹੋਇਸਰਬੰਗਿਸਮਾਏ।
(ਗੱਲ ਕੀ) ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪ ਅਚਰਜ ਰੂਪ ਬਣਕੇ ਸਰਬ (ਅੰਗਾਂ) ਸਰੀਰਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਸਮਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
Himself all bliss He premeates one and all.
ਆਪੇਆਪਿਵਰਤਦਾਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਪਤੀਆਏ।੨।
ਹਾਂ, ਆਪੇ ਆਪ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਹੈ (ਪ੍ਰੰਤੂ) ਗੁਰਮੁਖ (ਲੋਕ ਇਸ ਗੱਲ ਪੁਰ) ਪ੍ਰਤੀਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
This mystery that the Lord is omnipresent, is only understood by a gurmukh, the Guru oriented one.
ਆਪੇਭੁਖਾਹੋਇਕੈਆਪਿਜਾਇਰਸੋਈ।
ਆਪ ਹੀ ਚਾਹਵਾਨ ਹੋਕੇ ਆਪੂੰ ਰਸੋਈ (ਵਿਚ) ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
He (the Lord) Himself posing to be hungry goes into the kitchen and cooks the food kneading in it all sorts of delights.
ਭੋਜਨੁਆਪਿਬਣਾਇਦਾਰਸਵਿਚਿਰਸਗੋਈ।
ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ਾਦ ਆਪ ਬਣਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਸ੍ਵਾਦ ਵਿਚ ਸ੍ਵਾਦ ਮਿਲਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Himself eating and getting satiated He showers praises on the dainty dishes.
ਆਪੇਖਾਇਸਲਾਹਿਕੈਹੋਇਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿਸਮੋਈ।
(ਫੇਰ) ਆਪ ਹੀ ਖਾ ਕੇ ਸਲਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਰੱਜ ਕੇ ਅਨੰਦਤਿ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
He Himself is the delight as well as the delighted.
ਆਪੇਰਸੀਆਆਪਿਰਸੁਰਸੁਰਸਨਾਭੋਈ।
ਆਪ ਹੀ ਰਸੀਆ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ 'ਰਸ' ਰੂਪ ਹੈ, ਰਸਾਂ (ਵਿਖੇ) ਜੀਭ (ਰੂਪ ਹੋਕੇ ਬੀ ਆਪ ਹੀ) ਮਿਲਦਾ (ਪ੍ਰਵਿਰਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ) ਹੈ।
He is the juice as well as the tongue which relishes its taste.
ਦਾਤਾਭੁਗਤਾਆਪਿਹੈਸਰਬੰਗੁਸਮੋਈ।
ਦਾਤਾ ਭੁਗਤਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹੈ, ਸਰਬ ਅੰਗਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ (ਸਤਿਚਿਤ ਅਨੰਦ ਹੋਕੇ) ਸਮਾਇ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
He permeating through all, Himself is the giver as well as receiver.
ਆਪੇਆਪਿਵਰਤਦਾਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸੁਖੁਹੋਈ।੩।
ਆਪੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਵਰਤ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ (ਪ੍ਰੰਤੂ) ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਇਸ ਦਾ) ਸੁਖ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਸੋ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਖ ਹੈ)।
Knowing the fact that He permeates among all, the Gurmukh feels immense pleasure.
ਆਪੇਪਲੰਘੁਵਿਛਾਇਕੈਆਪਿਅੰਦਰਿਸਉਂਦਾ।
(ਜਿੱਕੁਰ ਕੋਈ) ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮੰਜਾ ਵਿਛਾਕੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਉਸ) ਵਿਚ ਸਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
He Himself spreads the bedstead and Himself reclines on it.
ਸੁਹਣੇਅੰਦਰਿਜਾਇਕੈਦੇਸੰਤਰਿਭਉਂਦਾ।
(ਫੇਰ) ਸੁਪਨੇ ਵਿਖੇ ਜਾ ਕੇ (ਕਈ) ਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Entering into the dreams He wanders through far off regions.
ਰੰਕੁਰਾਉਰਾਉਰੰਕੁਹੋਇਦੁਖਸੁਖਵਿਚਿਪਉਂਦਾ।
ਰੰਕੋਂ ਰਾਜਾ ਤੇਰਾਜਾ ਥੋਂ ਕੰਗਾਲ ਹੋਕੇ, ਦੁਖ ਸੁਖ ਵਿਖੇ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Making the poor a king and the king a poor person He puts them in pain and pleasure.
ਤਤਾਸੀਅਰਾਹੋਇਜਲੁਆਵਟਣੁਖਉਂਦਾ।
ਕਦੀ ਤੱਤਾ ਤੇ ਕਦੀ ਠੰਢਾ ਹੋਕੇ, ਜਲ (ਵਾਂਗ) ਕੜ੍ਹਨੀ ਸਹਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
In the form of water He Himself gets hot and cold.
ਹਰਖਸੋਗਵਿਚਿਧਾਂਵਦਾਚਾਵਾਏਚਉਂਦਾ।
ਹਰਖ ਸੋਗ ਵਿਚ ਦੌੜਦਾ ਹੈ (ਚਾਵਾਏ ਚਉਂਦਾ=ਜਦ ਕੋਈ ਪੁੱਛੇ ਭਾਈ ਰਾਤ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹੀ ਕੱਟੀ ਤਾਂ) ਬੁਲਾਯਾ ਬੋਲਦਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿ 'ਸੁਪਨੇ' ਵਿਖੇ ਮੈਂ ਦੁਖੀ ਰਿਹਾ, ਜਦ ਮੈਂ ਸੁਖੋਪਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਗਿਆ ਵਡੇ 'ਹਰਖ' ਅਨੰਦ ਨਾਲ ਸੁੱਤਾ ਪਰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕੁਝ ਖਬਰ ਨਾ ਰਹੀ)।
Amidst sorrows and delights He moves around and responds to the call when called.
ਆਪੇਆਪਿਵਰਤਦਾਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸੁਖੁਰਉਂਦਾ।੪।
ਆਪੇ ਆਪ (ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ) ਵਰਤਦਾ ਹੈ (ਅਤੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਬੀ ਸਾਖੀ ਰੂਪ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਪਰੰਤੂ ਇਸ ਭੇਤ ਨੂੰ) ਗੁਰਮੁਖ (ਸਮਝਕੇ) ਸੁਖ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
The gurmukh, realising His nature of premeating through all, attains happiness.
ਸਮਸਰਿਵਰਸੈਸ੍ਵਾਂਤਬੂੰਦਜਿਉਸਭਨੀਥਾਈ।
ਜਿਕੂੰ ਸ੍ਵਾਂਤਿ (ਨਛੱਤ੍ਰ ਦੀ) ਬੂੰਦ ਸਾਰੇ ਥਾਈਂ ਇਕੋ ਜੇਹੀ ਵਰ੍ਹਦੀ ਹੈ।
As the drops of rain in the svati nakstr (fifteenth star formation among the) twenty seven star formations known in india) fall equally at all places,
ਜਲਅੰਦਰਿਜਲੁਹੋਇਮਿਲੈਧਰਤੀਬਹੁਭਾਈ।
ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਪਾਣੀ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਤੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਕਈ ਭਾਂਤਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
And falling into water they merge in water and on earth they become earth;
ਕਿਰਖਬਿਰਖਰਸਕਸਘਣੇਫਲੁਫੁਲੁਸੁਹਾਈ।
(ਕਿਧਰੇ) ਖੇਤੀ ਬ੍ਰਿਛ, ਕਈ ਰਸ ਕਸੈਲੇ (ਆਦਿ) ਫਲਾਂ ਫੁਲਾਂ (ਵਿਖੇ ਮਿਲਕੇ) ਸੋਭਦੀ ਹੈ।
At places it transforms into plants and vegetation, sweet and bitter; at some places they are well adorned with myriad flowers and fruits.
ਕੇਲੇਵਿਚਿਕਪੂਰੁਹੋਇਸੀਤਲੁਸੁਖੁਦਾਈ।
ਕੇਲੇ ਵਿਖੇ (ਪਵੇ ਤਾਂ) ਕਪੂਰ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਸੀਤਲ ਤੇ ਸੁਖਦਾਇਕ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
Falling on the banana leaves they transform into cooling camphor.
ਮੋਤੀਹੋਵੈਸਿਪਮੁਹਿਬਹੁਮੋਲੁਮੁਲਾਈ।
ਸਿੱਪ ਵਿਚ ਮੋਤੀ ਬਣਕੇ ਵਡਾ ਮੁੱਲ ਪੁਆਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
The same when they fall into a sea-shell become pearls.
ਬਿਸੀਅਰਦੇਮਹਿਕਾਲਕੂਟਚਿਤਵੇਬੁਰਿਆਈ।
ਸੱਪ ਦੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਵਿਖੇ (ਪਵੇ ਤਾਂ) ਵਿਖ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਸਦਾ) ਬੁਰਾ ਚਿਤਵਦੀ ਹੈ।
Gone into the mouth of a snake they turn into deadly poison and always think evil.
ਆਪੇਆਪਿਵਰਤਦਾਸਤਿਸੰਗਿਸੁਭਾਈ।੫।
ਆਪੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਸਾਰੇ) ਵਰਤਦਾ ਹੈ (ਪ੍ਰੰਤੂ) ਸਤਿਸੰਗ ਵਿਖੇ (ਸੁਭਾਈ) ਵਿਸ਼ੇਖ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ਮਾਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
The Lord prevades all places and sits in state in the holy congregation.
ਸੋਈਤਾਂਬਾਰੰਗਸੰਗਿਜਿਉਕੈਹਾਂਹੋਈ।
ਉਹੋ ਤਾਂਬਾ ਕਲੀ ਨਾਲ (ਮਿਲਕੇ) ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕੈਹਾਂ (ਧਾਤੁ) ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Mixing with tin, the copper transforms into bronze.
ਸੋਈਤਾਂਬਾਜਿਸਤਮਿਲਿਪਿਤਲਅਵਲੋਈ।
ਉਹੋ ਤਾਂਬਾ ਜਿਸਤ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਕੇ ਪਿੱਤਲ ਦਿਖਾਈ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
The same copper mixed with zinc appears in the form of brass.
ਸੋਈਸੀਸੇਸੰਗਤੀਭੰਗਾਰਭੁਲੋਈ।
ਓਹੀ (ਤਾਂਬਾ) ਸਿੱਕੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਕੇ ਭਰਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।☬ਭਰਤ ਇਕ ਮਿਲਵੀਂ ਧਾਤੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੈ।
Copper mixed with lead changes pewter, a brittle metal called bharath in the Punjab.
ਤਾਂਬਾਪਾਰਸਿਪਰਸਿਆਹੋਇਕੰਚਨਸੋਈ।
(ਓਹੀ) ਤਾਂਬਾ ਪਾਰਸ ਨੂੰ ਛੁਹਕੇ ਸੋਨਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
With the touch of the philosopher’s stone, the same copper becomes gold.
ਸੋਈਤਾਂਬਾਭਸਮਹੋਇਅਉਖਧਕਰਿਭੋਈ।
ਉਹੋ ਤਾਂਬਾ (ਜੇ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਜਾਵੇ) ਭਸਮ ਹੋ ਜਾਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਔਖਧੀ ਕਹੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ। (ਅਰਥਾਤ ਤਮੇਸਰ)।
When transformed into ashes copper becomes a medicine.
ਆਪੇਆਪਿਵਰਤਦਾਸੰਗਤਿਗੁਣਗੋਈ।੬।
(ਤਿਵੇਂ ਸਭ ਘਟਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ) ਆਪ ਹੀ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਪ੍ਰੰਤੂ) ਸੰਗਤ ਦਾ ਗੁਣ (ਭਿੰਨ ਭਿੰਨ) ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Likewise, though the Lord is omnipresent, yet the effects of the company of man are different over men. Knowing this much, the Lord is eulogised in the holy congregation.
ਪਾਣੀਕਾਲੇਰੰਗਿਵਿਚਿਜਿਉਕਾਲਾਦਿਸੈ।
ਜਿਕੂੰ ਪਾਣੀ ਕਾਲੇ ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਕਾਲਾ ਦਿਸਦਾ ਹੈ।
As water mixed with black dye looks black
ਰਤਾਰਤੇਰੰਗਿਵਿਚਿਮਿਲਿਮੇਲਿਸਲਿਸੈ।
(ਤੇ) ਲਾਲ ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਕੇ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਮਿਲਣ ਵਾਲੇ (ਦੇ ਰੰਗ) ਸਮਾਨ ਲਾਲ।
And mixed with red water becomes red;
ਪੀਲੈਪੀਲਾਹੋਇਮਿਲੈਹਿਤੁਜੇਹੀਵਿਸੈ।
ਪੀਲੇ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਿਆਂ ਪੀਲਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਹਾ ਹਿਤ (=ਕਾਰਣ ਦੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ) ਵੈਸਾ (ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ)।
It turns out to be yellow adding yellow dye;
ਸਾਵਾਸਾਵੇਰੰਗਿਮਿਲਿਸਭਿਰੰਗਸਰਿਸੈ।
ਸਾਵੇ ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਕੇ ਸਾਵਾ (ਹੋਰ) ਸਾਰੇ ਰੰਗਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ) ਸਾਰਖਾ (ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ)।
And with the green becomes pleasure-giving green.
ਤਤਾਠੰਢਾਹੋਇਕੈਹਿਤਜਿਸੈਤਿਸੈ।
(ਨਿੱਘ ਠੰਢ ਵਿਚ) ਤੱਤਾ ਠੰਢਾ, ਜੈਸਾ ਕਾਰਣ (ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ) ਓਹੀ (ਰੂਪ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ) ਹੈ।
According to the seasons it becomes hot or cold.
ਆਪੇਆਪਿਵਰਤਦਾਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸੁਖੁਜਿਸੈ।੭।
(ਤਿਹਾ ਹੀ ਉਹ) ਆਪੇ ਆਪ ਵਰਤ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, (ਪਰ) ਜੋ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਹੈ ਓਹੀ ਸੁਖੀ ਹੈ।
Likewise, the Lord God operates to the needs(of creatures). The Guru-oriented (gurmukh) who is full of joy understands this mystery.
ਦੀਵਾਬਲੈਬੈਸੰਤਰਹੁਚਾਨਣੁਅਨ੍ਹੇਰੇ।
ਅੱਗ ਥੋਂ ਦੀਵਾ ਬਲਕੇ ਹਨੇਰੇ ਵਿਚ ਚਾਨਣ(ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ)।
Fire lits the lamp and light scatters in the darkness.
ਦੀਪਕਵਿਚਹੁੰਮਸੁਹੋਇਕੰਮਆਇਲਿਖੇਰੇ।
(ਉਸ) ਦੀਵੇ ਥੋਂ ਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਹੋਕੇ ਲਿਖਾਰੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਕੰਮ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
The ink obtained from the lamp is used by the writer.
ਕਜਲੁਹੋਵੈਕਾਮਣੀਸੰਗਿਭਲੇਭਲੇਰੇ।
(ਓਸੇ ਤੋਂ) ਤੀਵੀਂ ਕੱਜਲ ਬਣਾਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ; ਭਲਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਭਲਾ ਹੋਈਦਾ ਹੈ (ਬੁਰੇ ਵਿਚ ਬੁਰਾ)।
From that lamp women get collyrium. Therefore by living in the company of good persons one engages himself in good deeds.
ਮਸਵਾਣੀਹਰਿਜਸੁਲਿਖੈਦਫਤਰਅਗਲੇਰੇ।
(ਉਸੇ ਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਦੀ) ਦਵਾਤ ਥੋਂ ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਜਸ ਲਿਖੀਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਤੇ ਮੁਨਸ਼ੀ ਲੋਕ) ਦਫਤਰ ਬਾਹਲੇ (ਲਿਖਦੇ) ਹਨ।
With the same ink are written eulogies of the Lord and the clerk writes accounts in his office.
ਆਪੇਆਪਿਵਰਤਦਾਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਚਉਫੇਰੇ।੮।
ਆਪ ਹੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ (ਹੈ ਪਰ) ਸਾਰੇ ਪਾਸੇ (ਊਚ ਨੀਚ ਦੇ ਭੇਦ ਕਰ) ਵਰਤ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
Only gurmukh realises this fact, that the Lord pervades all around.
ਬਿਰਖੁਹੋਵੈਬੀਉਬੀਜੀਐਕਰਦਾਪਾਸਾਰਾ।
ਜੜ੍ਹ (ਜ਼ਮੀਨ ਦੇ) ਅੰਦਰ, ਪੇੜ ਬਾਹਰ, ਤੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਟਾਹਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਵਿਸਥਾਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
From seed comes up the tree and then it spreads further.
ਜੜਅੰਦਰਿਪੇਡਬਾਹਰਾਬਹੁਡਾਲਬਿਸਥਾਰਾ।
(ਫੇਰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਾਲ) ਪੱਤ੍ਰ, ਫਲ, ਫੁਲ ਲਗਦੇ, (ਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਰਸ ਤੇ ਰੰਗ ਸਵਾਰੀਦੇ ਹਨ।
Root extends in earth, the stem outside and the branches extend all around.
ਪਤਫੁਲਫਲਫਲੀਦਾਰਸਰੰਗਸਵਾਰਾ।
(ਫੁਲ ਤੇ ਫਲਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਕਈ) ਵਾਸ਼ਨਾਂ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਵੱਡਾ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
It becomes full of flowers, fruits, and means of many colours and delightful essences.
ਵਾਸੁਨਿਵਾਸੁਉਲਾਸੁਕਰਿਹੋਇਵਡਪਰਵਾਰਾ।
ਫਲ ਵਿਚ ਬੀਉ ਪੱਕਦੇ ਹਨ, ਇਕ ਫਲ ਤੋਂ ਹਜ਼ਾਰਾਂ ਹੀ ਫਲ ਜੰਮਦੇ ਹਨ।
In its flowers and fruits dwell fragrance and joy and now this seed becomes a large family.
ਫਲਵਿਚਿਬੀਉਸੰਜੀਉਹੋਇਫਲਫਲੇਹਜਾਰਾ।
(ਤਿਵੇਂ-ਇਕ ਈਸ਼੍ਵਰ ਹੀ) ਆਪੇ ਆਪ ਸਾਰੇ ਵਰਤ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ (ਜਿਸਨੂੰ ਜਾਣਨਹਾਰੇ) ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।☬'ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਵਰਤਦਾ' ਤਾਂ ਐਉਂ ਸਮਝ ਲਈਦਾ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਲਈ ਜਾਣਨਾ ਮਾਤ੍ਰ ਕਾਫੀ ਨਹੀਂ, ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
Again the fruit by producing seeds becomes the source of myriad flowers and fruits.
ਆਪੇਆਪਿਵਰਤਦਾਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਨਿਸਤਾਰਾ।੯।
(ਵਾਣਾ=ਪੇਟਾ। ਆਖਾਣ=ਨਾਉਂ। ਗੰਗਾ ਜਲ=ਕੱਪੜਾ ਇਕ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ। ਸਿਰੀ ਸਾਫ=ਕੱਪੜੇ ਦੀ ਕਿਸਮ, ਜਿਸਦੀ ਪੱਗ ਬਣਦੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਸੀ।)
Understanding of this very fact that the Lord alone is among all makes the gurmukh liberated.
ਹੋਵੇਸੂਤੁਕਪਾਹਦਾਕਰਿਤਾਣਾਵਾਣਾ।
ਕਪਾਹ ਦਾ ਸੂਤਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਥੋਂ) ਤਾਣਾ ਤੇ ਪੇਟਾ ਕਰੀਦਾ ਹੈ।
From cotton the thread and then its warp and waft is prepared.
ਸੂਤਹੁਕਪੜੁਜਾਣੀਐਆਖਾਣਵਖਾਣਾ।
ਸੂਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਕੱਪੜਾ ਉਣੀਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਉਸਦੇ ਕਈ) ਨਾਉਂ ਰਖੀਦੇ ਹਨ।
It is well known that from that very thread the cloth is made.
ਚਉਸੀਤੈਚਉਤਾਰਹੋਇਗੰਗਾਜਲੁਜਾਣਾ।
ਚਾਰ ਤਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਚਉਸੀ (ਕਹਾਉਂਦੀ) ਹੈ, (ਤੇ ਹੋਰ) ਗੰਗਾ ਕਲੀ ਬੀ ਜਾਣੀਦੀ ਹੈ।
Made of the four threads are what are known as chausi, gangajali etc.(in india).
ਖਾਸਾਮਲਮਲਸਿਰੀਸਾਫੁਤਨਸੁਖਮਨਿਭਾਣਾ।
ਖਾਸਾ, ਮਲਮਲ, ਸਿਰੀਸਾਫ, ਤਨਸੁਖ, ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਉਣ ਵਾਲੇ।
The superior clothes (malmal, sirisaph) made out of it impart comfort and pleasure to the body.
ਪਗਦੁਪਟਾਚੋਲਣਾਪਟੁਕਾਪਰਵਾਣਾ।
ਪੱਗ, ਦੁਪੱਟਾ, ਕੁੜਤਾ, ਕਮਰ ਬੰਦ (ਆਦ ਕਈ ਨਾਉਂ) ਪ੍ਰਮਾਣ (ਕਰੀਦੇ ਹਨ)।
By becoming turban, scarf, waist coat etc that thread from cotton becomes acceptable to one and all.
ਆਪੇਆਪਿਵਰਤਦਾਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਰੰਗਮਾਣਾ।੧੦।
(ਤਿੱਕੁਰ) ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਸਦੇ) ਰੰਗ (ਪ੍ਰੇਮ) ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਮਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ।
The Lord permeates among all and the gurmukhs enjoy His love.
ਸੁਨਿਆਰਾਸੁਇਨਾਘੜੈਗਹਣੇਸਾਵਾਰੇ।
ਸੁਨਿਆਰਾ (ਕਈ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ਦੇ) ਗਹਿਣੇ ਸੋਨੇ ਤੋਂ ਘੜਕੇ ਸੁਆਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
The goldsmith creates beautiful ornaments out of gold.
ਪਿਪਲਵਤਰੇਵਾਲੀਆਤਾਨਉੜੇਤਾਰੇ।
ਪਿੱਪਲ ਵਤਰੇ, ਵਾਲੀਆਂ, ਤਨੌੜੇ; (ਕੰਨਾਂ ਦੇ) ਸਤਾਰੇ।
Among them many are like pipal leaf for adornment of ears and many are made of gold wire.
ਵੇਸਰਿਨਥਿਵਖਾਣੀਐਕੰਠਮਾਲਾਧਾਰੇ।
ਬੇਸਰ ਨੱਥ ਬੀ (ਇਸੇ ਸੋਨੇ ਦੀ) ਕਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ (ਤੇ) ਕੰਠਾ (ਗਲ ਵਿਚ) ਪਹਿਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ।
From gold, nose-rings and necklaces are also worked into their shape.
ਟੀਕਤਿਮਣੀਆਮੋਤਿਸਰਗਜਰੇਪਾਸਾਰੇ।
ਟਿੱਕਾ ਮਣੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਜੜਾਊ, ਲੰਮੀ ਮਾਲਾ, ਗੋਖਰੂ ਦਾ ਫੈਲਾਉ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Ornament for the forehead (tikka), jewels studded necklace, pearl garlands are made.
ਦੁਰਬਹੁਟਾਗੋਲਛਾਪਕਰਿਬਹੁਪਰਕਾਰੇ।
ਬੀਰਬਲੀਆਂ (ਜਾਂ ਬੁੰਦੇ), ਬਾਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਬੁਹੱਟੇ, ਗੋਲ ਮੁੰਦ੍ਰੀ (ਛੱਲਾ) ਕਈ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ਦੇ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Variegated wrist chains and round rings are prepared from gold.
ਆਪੇਆਪਿਵਰਤਦਾਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਵੀਚਾਰੇ।੧੧।
ਤਿਵੇਂ ਆਪੇ ਆਪ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਹੈ (ਪਰ) ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਵੀਚਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।☬ਇਹ ਵੀਚਾਰ ਤੇ ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਕਿ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸੋਨਾ ਹੀ ਹੈ ਮੂਲ ਵਸਤੂ, ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
The gurmukh feels that like gold He is the basis of each and every thing.
ਗੰਨਾਕੋਲੂਪੀੜੀਐਰਸੁਦੇਦਰਹਾਲਾ।
ਗੰਨਾਂ ਜਦ ਕੋਹਲੂ (ਵਿਖੇ) ਪੀੜੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਸ਼ੀਘਰ ਰਹੁ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Crushed by the crushing machine sugarcane gives juice instantly.
ਕੋਈਕਰੇਗੁੜੁਭੇਲੀਆਂਕੋਸਕਰਵਾਲਾ।
(ਉਸ ਥੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਰੋੜੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਕੋਈ ਮਹੀਨ ਸ਼ੱਕਰ ਬਣਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Some prepare lumps of jaggery and brown sugar out of it.
ਕੋਈਖੰਡਸਵਾਰਦਾਮਖਣਮਸਾਲਾ।
ਕੋਈ ਖੰਡ ਬਨਾਉਂਦਾ, ਕੋਈ ਮਸਾਲੇਦਾਰ ਮਖਾਣੇ।
Some prepare refined sugar and some adding in it sweet drops make special jaggery.
ਹੋਵੈਮਿਸਰੀਕਲੀਕੰਦਮਿਠਿਆਈਢਾਲਾ।
ਮਿਸਰੀ, ਕਲਾਕੰਦ ਤੇ ਢਾਲਵੀਂ ਮਠਿਆਈ (ਪੇਠਾ ਆਦਿ) ਬਣਦੀ ਹੈ।
It is moulded into lump sugar and variegated sweets.
ਖਾਵੈਰਾਜਾਰੰਕੁਕਰਿਰਸਭੋਗਸੁਖਾਲਾ।
ਰਾਜੇ (ਮਠਿਆਈ ਤੇ) ਰੰਕ ਲੋਕ (ਗੁੜ ਸ਼ੱਕਰ) ਖਾਕੇ ਰਸਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਖ ਨਾਲ ਭੋਗਦੇ ਹਨ।
The poor and the wealthy both eat it with pleasure.
ਆਪੇਆਪਿਵਰਤਦਾਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸੁਖਾਲਾ।੧੨।
(ਤਿਵੇਂ) ਆਪੇ ਆਪ ਵਰਤ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ (ਪਰ ਇਹ ਸਮਝ ਕੇ ਕੇਵਲ) ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਸੌਖਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ ਸੁਖ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ)।
God (similar to sugarcane juice) permeates through all; for gurmukhs He is the essence of all the pleasures.
ਗਾਈਰੰਗਬਿਰੰਗਬਹੁਦੁਧੁਉਜਲੁਵਰਣਾ।
ਗਊਆਂ (ਭਾਵੇਂ) ਬਹੁਤੀ ਰੰਗੋਂ ਬਿਰੰਗ (ਕਾਲੀ ਆਦਿ) ਹੋਵਣ, ਦੁੱਧ ਦਾ ਰੰਗ ਚਿੱਟਾ ਹੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Cows are of different hues but the milk of all is white.
ਦੁਧਹੁਦਹੀਜਮਾਈਐਕਰਿਨਿਹਚਲੁਧਰਣਾ।
ਦੁੱਧ ਥੋਂ (ਜਦ) ਦਹੀਂ ਜਮਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਅਡੋਲ ਰਖ ਦੇਈਦਾ ਹੈ।
For making curd Some rennet is added into it and then it is placed undistributed.
ਦਹੀਵਿਲੋਇਅਲੋਈਐਛਾਹਿਮਖਣਤਰਣਾ।
ਦਹੀਂ (ਜਦ) ਰਿੜਕਕੇ ਦੇਖੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਲੱਸੀ ਤੋਂ ਮੱਖਣ ਨਿਤਾਰ ਲਈਦਾ ਹੈ।
By churning curd one finds butter over the butter milk.
ਮਖਣੁਤਾਇਅਉਟਾਇਕੈਘਿਉਨਿਰਮਲਕਰਣਾ।
(ਫੇਰ) ਮੱਖਣ ਨੂੰ ਤਪਾਕੇ, ਕਾਹੜਕੇ ਘਿਉ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
The butter boiled properly is transformed into ghee – clarified butter.
ਹੋਮਜਗਨਈਵੇਦਕਰਿਸਭਕਾਰਜਸਰਣਾ।
ਹੋਮ, ਯੱਗ, ਪੂਜਾ ਭੇਟ (ਦੇ ਕੰਮ ਆਦਿ) ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਕਾਰਜ ਉਸਥੋਂ ਸਾਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
Then that ghee is used as burnt offering and him yajn(rituals) and other oblation are performed.
ਆਪੇਆਪਿਵਰਤਦਾਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਹੋਇਜਰਣਾ।੧੩।
(ਤਿਵੇਂ ਸਾਰੇ) ਆਪੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਵਰਤ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰਮੁਖ (ਇਸ ਗੱਲ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਤੇ) ਜਰਦੇ ਹਨ!
Gurmukh knows that the Lord is all pervading but to reach Him one has to have spiritual quest as well as the sense of contentment.
ਪਲਘੜੀਆਮੂਰਤਿਪਹਰਿਥਿਤਵਾਰਗਣਾਏ।
ਪਲਾਂ, ਘੜੀਆਂ, ਮਹੂਰਤ, ਪਹਿਰ, ਥਿੱਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਾਰ ਗਿਣੀਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
From moments, the gharis (a unit of time equal to 22).
ਦੁਇਪਖਬਾਰਹਮਾਹਕਰਿਸੰਜੋਗਬਣਾਏ।
ਦੋ ਪਖ, ੧੨ ਮਹੀਨੇ ਸੰਜੋਗ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਬਨਾਏ ਹਨ।
(5 minutes), muhurat (auspicious time), the quarters of day and night (pahar – three hourstime) dates and days have been counted. Then joining two fortnights (dark- light) and twelve months have been made.
ਛਿਅਰੁਤੀਵਰਤਾਈਆਂਬਹੁਚਲਿਤਬਣਾਏ।
ਛੀ ਰੁਤਾਂ ਵਰਤਾਈਆਂ ਹਨ, ਬਹੁਤ ਕੌਤਕ ਵਰਤਾਏ ਹਨ।
Many inspiring visuals have been created through the six seasons.
ਸੂਰਜੁਇਕੁਵਰਤਦਾਲੋਕੁਵੇਦਅਲਾਏ।
ਸੂਰਜ ਇਕ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਹੈ (ਆਮ) ਲੋਕੀ ਤੇ ਗ੍ਯਾਨੀ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ।
But as say the knowledgeable persons the sun remains the same among these all.
ਚਾਰਿਵਰਨਛਿਅਦਰਸਨਾਂਬਹੁਪੰਥਿਚਲਾਏ।
ਛੀ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਤੇ ਚਾਰ ਵਰਨ (ਆਦਿ) ਬਹੁਤੇ ਰਸਤੇ (ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ) ਤੋਰੇ ਹਨ।
Similiarly, four varans, six philosophies and many sects have been promulgated,
ਆਪੇਆਪਿਵਰਤਦਾਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸਮਝਾਏ।੧੪।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖ (ਇਸ ਸਿਧਾਂਤ ਨੂੰ) ਸਮਝਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਕਿ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ) ਆਪੇ ਆਪ (ਸਭ ਵਿਚ) ਵ੍ਯਾਪਕ ਹੈ (ਆਪੋ ਵਿਚ ਲੜੋ ਨਾ, ਇਸ ਭੇਤ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝੋ)।
But the gurmukh understands all (and hence there should be no in-fightings).
ਇਕੁਪਾਣੀਇਕਧਰਤਿਹੈਬਹੁਬਿਰਖਉਪਾਏ।
ਇਕੋ ਪਾਣੀ ਤੇ ਇਕੋ ਧਰਤੀ ਹੈ, ਬ੍ਰਿੱਛ ਬਹੁਤ (ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ਦੇ) ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੇ ਹਨ।
The water is one and the earth is also one but the flora is of variegated qualities.
ਅਫਲਸਫਲਪਰਕਾਰਬਹੁਫਲਫੁਲਸੁਹਾਏ।
ਫਲ ਹੀਨ, ਫਲਦਾਰ, ਫਲ ਫੁਲ (ਕਰਕੇ) ਬਹੁਤ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ਦੇ ਫਬਾਏ ਹਨ।
Many are devoid of fruits and many are adorned with flowers and fruits.
ਬਹੁਰਸਰੰਗਸੁਵਾਸਨਾਪਰਕਿਰਤਿਸੁਭਾਏ।
ਬਹੁਤੇ ਰਸ, ਰੰਗ, ਸੁਹਣੀਆਂ ਵਾਸ਼ਨਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਪ੍ਰਕ੍ਰਿਰਤੀ ਵਾਲੇ।
They have diverse kinds of fragrance and by their many kinds of extracts they enhance the grandeur of Nature.
ਬੈਸੰਤਰੁਇਕੁਵਰਨਹੋਇਸਭਤਰਵਰਛਾਏ।
(ਨਾਨ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ਦੇ) ਸਾਰੇ ਬ੍ਰਿੱਛਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਅੱਗ ਇਕੋ ਰੰਗ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਦੀ ਹੈ।
The same fire is there in all trees.
ਗੁਪਤਹੁਪਰਗਟਹੋਇਕੈਭਸਮੰਤਕਰਾਏ।
ਨਾ ਦਿੱਸਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਦਸ਼ਾ ਤੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਹੋਕੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਆਹ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
That unmanifest fire becoming manifest reduces all to ashes.
ਆਪੇਆਪਿਵਰਤਦਾਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸੁਖਪਾਏ।੧੫।
(ਤਿਵੇਂ) ਆਪੇ ਆਪ ਵਰਤ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ (ਪਰ ਇਸ ਬਾਤ ਦਾ) ਸੁਖ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਪਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
Likewise, that (unmanifest) Lord resides in all and this very fact makes Gurmukhs full of delight.
ਚੰਦਨਵਾਸਵਣਾਸਪਤਿਸਭਚੰਦਨਹੋਵੈ।
ਚੰਦਨ ਦੀ ਵਾਸ਼ਨਾ (ਨਾਲ) ਸਾਰੀ ਬਨਾਸਪਤੀ ਚੰਦਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
The whole vegetation planted near sandal tree becomes fragrant like sandal.
ਅਸਟਧਾਤੁਇਕਧਾਤੁਹੋਇਸੰਗਿਪਾਰਸਿਢੋਵੈ।
ਪਾਰਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਕੇ ਅੱਠਾਂ ਧਾਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਇਕ ਧਾਤ (ਸੋਨਾ) ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
Being in touch with the philosophers’s stone and the alloy of light metals transforms into one metal (gold).
ਨਦੀਆਨਾਲੇਵਾਹੜੇਮਿਲਿਗੰਗਗੰਗੋਵੈ।
ਨਦੀਆਂ, ਨਾਲੇ ਤੇ ਨਿੱਕੇ ਨਾਲੇ ਗੰਗਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਕੇ ਗੰਗਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
Rivers, streams and brooks after joining the Ganges are known by the name of Ganges.
ਪਤਿਤਉਧਾਰਣੁਸਾਧਸੰਗੁਪਾਪਾਂਮਲੁਧੋਵੈ।
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਪਾਪੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਉਧਾਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ, (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ) ਪਾਪਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੈਲ ਧੋ ਦਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
The redeemer of the fallen ones is the holy congregation wherein the dirt of sins is cleansed.
ਨਰਕਨਿਵਾਰਅਸੰਖਹੋਇਲਖਪਤਿਤਸੰਗੋਵੈ।
(ਇਸੇ ਕਾਰਣ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਲਖ=) ਦੇਖਣ ਨਾਲ (ਅਥਵਾ ਸੰਗੋਵੈ=) ਸੰਗਤ ਨਾਲ ਅਸੰਖ ਪਤਿਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਰਕ ਹਟ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
Myriads of apostates and hells have obtained redemption through and in the holy congregation.
ਆਪੇਆਪਿਵਰਤਦਾਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਅਲੋਵੈ।੧੬।
(ਸੋ) ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੁਮਖ ਦੇਖਦੇ ਹਨ।
The gurmukh beholds and understands that God pervades one and all.
ਦੀਪਕਹੇਤੁਪਤੰਗਦਾਜਲਮੀਨਤਰੰਦਾ।
ਦੀਵੇ ਦਾ ਹਿਤ ਭੰਬਟ ਨੂੰ ਹੈ, ਮਛੀ (ਹਿਤ ਨਾਲ) ਜਲ ਤਰਦੀ ਹੈ।
Moth loves burning lamp and fish goes on swimming in water for love of It.
ਮਿਰਗੁਨਾਦਵਿਸਮਾਦੁਹੈਭਵਰਕਵਲਿਵਸੰਦਾ।
ਹਰਨ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਹੈਰਾਨ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ ਮਸਤ ਹੈ), ਭੌਰਾ ਕੌਲ (ਫੁੱਲ) ਤੇ ਵਸਦਾ ਹੈ।
For deer the musical sound is the source of delight, and the black bee being in love for lotus gets enveloped in it.
ਚੰਦਚਕੋਰਪਰੀਤਿਹੈਦੇਖਿਧਿਆਨੁਧਰੰਦਾ।
ਚੰਦ ਦੀ ਚਕੋਰ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਹੈ, ਦੇਖਕੇ (ਉਸੇ ਦਾ) ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
The redlegged patridge (chakor) loves the moon and concentrates upon it.
ਚਕਵੀਸੂਰਜਹੇਤੁਹੈਸੰਜੋਗਬਣੰਦਾ।
ਚਕਵੀ ਨੂੰ ਸੂਰਜ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਹੈ, (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਇਸ ਨਾਲ ਉਸਦਾ) ਸੰਜੋਗ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
Female ruddy sheldrake (chakavi) loves the sun and only on sunrise it meets and mates with its patner.
ਨਾਰਿਭਤਾਰਪਿਆਰੁਹੈਮਾਂਪੁਤੁਮਿਲੰਦਾ।
ਨਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਪਤੀ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਮਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੁੱਤ੍ਰ ਮਿਲਨ ਦਾ (ਹਿਤ ਹੈ)।
Woman loves her husband and it is love that the mother brings forth the son.
ਆਪੇਆਪਿਵਰਤਦਾਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਪਰਚੰਦਾ।੧੭।
(ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪ (ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਿਚ) ਵਰਤ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, (ਪਰ) ਗੁਰਮੁਖ (ਉਸਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਿਚ) ਪਰਚਦਾ ਹੈ।
Beholding Him operative in all, the gurmukh feels contented.
ਅਖੀਅੰਦਰਿਦੇਖਦਾਸਭਚੋਜਵਿਡਾਣਾ।
ਅਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਅਚਰਜ ਕੌਤਕ ਦੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ।
Through the eyes (of the world) He beholds all the wondrous feats.
ਕੰਨੀਸੁਣਦਾਸੁਰਤਿਕਰਿਆਖਾਣਿਵਖਾਣਾ।
ਸੁਰਤ (ਧ੍ਯਾਨ) ਕਰ ਕੇ ਕੰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਕਹੇ ਹੋਏ ਬਚਨ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
With full consciousness He listens to the stories narrated.
ਜੀਭੈਅੰਦਰਿਬੋਲਦਾਬਹੁਸਾਦਲੁਭਾਣਾ।
ਜੀਭ ਅੰਦਰ (ਹੋਕੇ) ਬੋਲਦਾ ਤੇ ਬਹੁਤੇ ਸੁਆਦਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਲੁਭਿਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Through tongue, He speaks and relishes all the tastes.
ਹਥੀਂਕਿਰਤਿਕਮਾਂਵਦਾਪਗਿਚਲੈਸੁਜਾਣਾ।
ਹਥਾਂ (ਅੰਦਰ ਹੋਕੇ) ਕਿਰਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਤੇ ਸਿਆਣਾ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਤੁਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
He works with hands and He, the Omniscient One, walks on feet.
ਦੇਹੀਅੰਦਰਿਇਕੁਮਨੁਇੰਦ੍ਰੀਪਰਵਾਣਾ।
(ਏਹ) ਇਕ 'ਮਨ' ਦੇਹ ਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੈ, (ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਆਗਿਆ ਨੂੰ) ਇੰਦ੍ਰੀਆਂ ਪਰਵਾਨ ਕਰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ।
In body, He is the mind whose orders are obeyed by all the organs.
ਆਪੇਆਪਿਵਰਤਦਾਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸੁਖੁਮਾਣਾ।੧੮।
(ਤਿਵੇਂ) ਆਪੇ ਆਪ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਸੁਖ ਮਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ।
Understanding (the fact) that He permeates through all, gurmukhs feel delighted.
ਪਵਣਗੁਰੂਗੁਰੁਸਬਦੁਹੈਰਾਗਨਾਦਵੀਚਾਰਾ।
ਪੌਣ ਗਰੂ ਹੈ (ਤੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਥੋਂ) ਰਾਗ ਨਾਗ ਦੇ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
The basis of the world is air (the mixture of gases) and Sabad (Word) is the Guru of all knowledge from which flow further all thoughts, music and attendant sounds.
ਮਾਤਪਿਤਾਜਲੁਧਰਤਿਹੈਉਤਪਤਿਸੰਸਾਰਾ।
ਧਰਤੀ ਮਾਤਾ ਹੈ, ਜਲ ਪਿਤਾ ਹੈ, ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ (ਤੱਤਾਂ ਥੋਂ) ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦੀ ਉਤਪਤੀ ਹੈ।
Mother and father are the creative forces in the form of earth and water.
ਦਾਈਦਾਇਆਰਾਤਿਦਿਹੁਵਰਤੇਵਰਤਾਰਾ।
ਰਾਤ (ਸੁਵਾਉਣ ਵਾਲੀ) ਦਾਈ ਤੇ ਦਿਨ (ਖੇਡਾਉਣ ਵਾਲਾ) ਦਾਇਆ ਹੈ, (ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ) ਵਰਤਾਰੇ (ਵਿਖੇ ਜਗਤ) ਵਰਤਦਾ ਹੈ।
Night and day are the nurses who nurse for the creatures and this way the whole system goes on operating.
ਸਿਵਸਕਤੀਦਾਖੇਲੁਮੇਲੁਪਰਕਿਰਤਿਪਸਾਰਾ।
ਸ਼ਿਵ (ਚੇਤਨ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ), ਸ਼ਕਤੀ (ਜੜ੍ਹ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ) ਦਾ ਮੇਲ ਮੇਲ ਕੇ (ਸੰਸਾਰ) ਪ੍ਰਕ੍ਰਿਤੀ ਦਾ ਰਚਿਆ ਹੈ।

ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮਪੂਰਨਬ੍ਰਹਮੁਘਟਿਚੰਦੁਅਕਾਰਾ।
(ਇਸ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਵਿਚ ਆਪ) ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ (ਐਉਂ) ਪੂਰਮ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ (ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਕੂੰ ਜਲ ਭਰੇ) ਭਾਂਡਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਚੰਦ੍ਰਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਬਿੰਬ ਪੂਰਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
That transcendental perfect Lord is permeating through all as the same moon in the sky is visualised in all the pitchers of water.
ਆਪੇਆਪਿਵਰਤਦਾਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਨਿਰਧਾਰਾ।੧੯।
ਆਪੇ ਆਪ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਆਧਾਰ ਰੂਪ ਹੋਕੇ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਹੈ।
That Lord beyond all the sustenances is the sustenance for the gurmukhs and He alone operates through all.
ਫੁਲਾਂਅੰਦਰਿਵਾਸੁਹੈਹੋਇਭਵਰੁਲੁਭਾਣਾ।
ਫੁੱਲਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਾਸ਼ਨਾ (ਆ ਪਈ) ਹੈ (ਜਿਸ ਪਰ) ਭੌਰਾ ਲੋਭ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ;
The Lord is the fragrance in flowers and becoming black bee He is attracted towards flowers.
ਅੰਬਾਂਅੰਦਰਿਰਸਧਰੇਕੋਇਲਰਸੁਮਾਣਾ।
ਅੰਬਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਮਿਠਾਸ ਧਰੀ ਹੈ, ਕੋਇਲ (ਜਿਸਦੇ) ਰਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਣਦੀ ਹੈ।
Sap in the mangoes is He and becoming nightingale He enjoys the same.
ਮੋਰਬਬੀਹਾਹੋਇਕੈਘਣਵਰਸਸਿਞਾਣਾ।
ਮੋਰ ਤੇ ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕ (ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ) ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਜਦ ਬੱਦਲ ਵਰ੍ਹਦਾ ਵੇਖਦੇ ਹਨ।
Becoming peacock and the rain bird (papthd) only He identifies the delight in raining of the clouds.
ਖੀਰਨੀਰਸੰਜੋਗਹੋਇਕਲੀਕੰਦਵਖਾਣਾ।
ਦੁੱਧ ਤੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਦਾ (ਜਿਕੂੰ) ਸੰਜੋਗ (ਮੇਲ ਯਾ ਪਿਆਰ) ਹੈ, (ਯਾ ਖੰਡ ਤੇ ਖੋਏ ਦਾ ਜਿੱਕੂੰ ਸੰਜੋਗ) ਕਲਾਕੰਦ ਵਿਚ ਕਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ।
He transforms Himself into variegated sweets by becoming milk and water.
ਓਅੰਕਾਰੁਆਕਾਰੁਕਰਿਹੋਇਪਿੰਡਪਰਾਣਾ।
(ਤਿਕੂੰ) ਓਅੰਕਾਰ ਸਰੂਪ ਰਚਕੇ ਦੇਹ ਤੇ ਜਿੰਦ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
The same Formless Lord assuming different forms is residing in all the bodies.

He is omnipresent in all substances and activities and gurmukhs bow before all such stages.
