ੴਸਤਿਗੁਰਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ॥

Vaar Four
ਓਅੰਕਾਰਿਅਕਾਰੁਕਰਿਪਉਣੁਪਾਣੀਬੈਸੰਤਰੁਧਾਰੇ।
(ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ) ਓਅੰਕਾਰ ਤੋਂ ਆਕਾਰ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਪੌਣ, ਪਾਣੀ, ਬੈਸੰਤਰ (ਧਰਤੀ ਤੇ ਅਕਾਸ਼ ਪੰਜ ਮੂਲ ਪਦਾਰਥ) ਬਨਾਏ।
Oankar transforming into forms created air, water and fire.
ਧਰਤਿਅਕਾਸਵਿਛੋੜਿਅਨੁਚੰਦੁਸੂਰੁਦੇਜੋਤਿਸਵਾਰੇ।
(ਫੇਰ) ਧਰਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਆਕਾਸ਼ ਵਿਚ ਛੋੜਿਆ ਚੰਦ ਤੇ ਸੂਰਜ (ਇਸ ਲਈ) ਦੋ ਜੋਤਾਂ ਸਵਾਰ (ਕੇ ਧਰੀਆਂ)।
Then separating earth and sky He threw two flames of sun and moon in between them.
ਖਾਣੀਚਾਰਿਬੰਧਾਨਕਰਿਲਖਚਉਰਾਸੀਹਜੂਨਿਦੁਆਰੇ।
(ਫੇਰ) ਚਾਰ ਖਾਣੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਬੰਧਾਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਚੁਰਾਸੀ ਲੱਖ ਜੂਨ ਦੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਬਨਾਏ।
Further creating the four mines of life He created eighty four lacs of species and their animalcules.
ਇਕਸਇਕਸਜੂਨਿਵਿਚਿਜੀਅਜੰਤਅਣਗਣਤਅਪਾਰੇ।
ਇਕ ਇਕ ਜੂਨ ਵਿਚ ਅਨਗਿਣਤ ਤੇ ਅਪਾਰ ਜੀਵ ਜੰਤ ਹੀ ਬਨਾ ਦਿੱਤੇ।
In each species further are born myriads of creatures.
ਮਾਣਸਜਨਮੁਦੁਲੰਭੁਹੈਸਫਲਜਨਮੁਗੁਰਸਰਣਉਧਾਰੇ।
(ਸਭਨਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਦੁਰਲਭ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਜਨਮ ਸਫ਼ਲ ਹੈ (ਜੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਲੈਕੇ (ਇਸਦਾ) ਉਧਾਰ ਕਰੇ।
Among them all, the human birth is the rare one. One should, in this very Birth, liberate himself by surrendering before the Guru.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਗੁਰਸਬਦਲਿਵਭਾਇਭਗਤਿਗੁਰਗਿਆਨਵੀਚਾਰੇ।
ਸਤਿਸੰਗ (ਕਰੇ), ਗੁਰੂ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਲਿਵ (ਜੋੜੇ) ਪ੍ਰੇਮਾ ਭਗਤੀ (ਕਮਾਵੇ ਤੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਦਸਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਗ੍ਯਾਨ ਵੀਚਾਰੇ।
One must go to holy congregation; the consciousness should be merged in the word of the Guru and cultivating only a loving devotion, one should undertake to follow the path shown by the Guru.
ਪਰਉਪਕਾਰੀਗੁਰੂਪਿਆਰੇ।੧।
ਪਰਉਪਕਾਰੀ ਹੋਵੇ ਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਯਾਰ ਕਰੇ।
The man by becoming altruist becomes beloved of the Guru.
ਸਭਦੂੰਨੀਵੀਧਰਤਿਹੈਆਪੁਗਵਾਇਹੋਈਉਡੀਣੀ।
ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਨੀਵੀਂ ਧਰਤੀ ਹੈ, ਆਪਾ ਭਾਵ ਗੁਵਾਕੇ ਨਿਮਾਣੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ,
The earth is the most humble which eschewing ego is firm and steady.
ਧੀਰਜੁਧਰਮੁਸੰਤੋਖੁਦ੍ਰਿੜੁਪੈਰਾਹੇਠਿਰਹੈਲਿਵਲੀਣੀ।
ਧੀਰਜ ਤੇ ਸੰਤੋਖ ਦਾ ਧਰਮ ਪੱਕਾ ਰਖਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪੈਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਹੇਠ ਰਹਿਣ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤੀ ਰਖਦੀ ਹੈ।
Deeply rooted in fortitude, dharma and contentment it remains tranquil under feet.
ਸਾਧਜਨਾਦੇਚਰਣਛੁਹਿਆਢੀਣੀਹੋਈਲਾਖੀਣੀ।
ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਪਰਸ਼ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਇਕ ਧੇਲੇ ਦੀ ਹੋਕੇ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
Touching the holy feet of the saints, it earlier being worth half a penny now becomes worth lacs.
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਬੂੰਦਸੁਹਾਵਣੀਛਹਬਰਛਲਕਰੇਣੁਹੋਇਰੀਣੀ।
ਨਿਰਮਲ ਬੂੰਦਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਇਕ ਰਸ (ਛਲਕ=) ਝੜੀ ਨਾਲ ਧਰਤੀ ਰਜਦੀ ਹੈ।
In the rain of love the earth gets satiated with delight.
ਮਿਲਿਆਮਾਣੁਨਿਮਾਣੀਐਪਿਰਮਪਿਆਲਾਪੀਇਪਤੀਣੀ।
ਨਿਮਾਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਣ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਪਿਰਮ=) ਈਸ੍ਵਰ ਦਾ (ਭੇਜਿਆ) ਪਿਆਲਾ ਪੀ ਕੇ ਪਤੀਜਦੀ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ)।
Only the humble get adorned with glory and the earth, quaffing the cup of the love of the Lord gets satiated.
ਜੋਬੀਜੈਸੋਈਲੁਣੈਸਭਰਸਕਸਬਹੁਰੰਗਰੰਗੀਣੀ।
ਜੋ (ਕੋਈ ਉਸ ਵਿਖੇ) ਬੀਜਦਾ ਹੈ ਓਹੋ ਵੱਢਦਾ ਹੈ, ਵਡੇ ਰਸਾਂ ਕਸਾ ਤੇ ਰੰਗਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗੀ ਹੋਈ (ਜੋ ਇਹ ਧਰਤੀ ਹੈ)।
Amongst variegated flora, sweet and bitter tastes, and colours on earth, one reaps whatever one sows.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸੁਖਫਲਹੈਮਸਕੀਣੀ।੨।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਲੋਕ ਸੁਖ ਫਲ ਗ਼ਰੀਬੀ ਵਿਖੇ (ਹੀ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ)।
Gurmukhs (in their humility like the earth) get fruit of delight.
ਮਾਣਸਦੇਹਸੁਖੇਹਹੈਤਿਸੁਵਿਚਿਜੀਭੈਲਈਨਕੀਬੀ।
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇਹ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਵਿਖੇ ਜੀਭ ਨੇ ਨਕੀਬੀ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।
Human body is like ashes but in it the tongue is admirable (for its benefits).
ਅਖੀਦੇਖਨਿਰੂਪਰੰਗਰਾਗਨਾਦਕੰਨਕਰਨਿਰਕੀਬੀ।
ਅੱਖਾਂ ਰੂਪ ਰੰਗ ਦੇਖਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਰਾਗ ਨਾਦ ਦੀ ਕੰਨ ਰਾਖੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਗੁਆਚਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੇਂਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪੁਚਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ)।
The eyes behold forms and colours and the ears take care of the sounds- musical and otherwise.
ਨਕਿਸੁਵਾਸੁਨਿਵਾਸੁਹੈਪੰਜੇਦੂਤਬੁਰੀਤਰਤੀਬੀ।
ਨੱਕ ਦਾ ਚੰਗੀਆਂ ਵਾਸ਼ਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਧਿਆਨ ਹੈ, ਪੰਜੇ ਦੂਤ ਹਨ (ਅਰਥਾਤ ਸ਼ਬਦ, ਸਪਰਸ਼, ਰਸ, ਗੰਧ) ਭੈੜੀ ਤਰਤੀਬ (ਸਲਾਹ ਯਾ ਕ੍ਰਮ) ਵਾਲੇ ਹਨ। (ਭਾਵ ਕੰਨ ਸੰਬਦ ਨੂੰ, ਤੁਚਾ ਸਪਰਸ਼ ਨੂੰ, ਰੂਪ ਨੇਤ੍ਰ ਨੂੰ ਜੀਭ ਰਸ ਨੂੰ, ਨੱਕ ਗੰਧ ਨੂੰ ਚਾਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ)।
Nose is the abode of smell and thus all these five couriers (of the body) remain indulged in these pleasures (and become futile).
ਸਭਦੂੰਨੀਵੇਚਰਣਹੋਇਆਪੁਗਵਾਇਨਸੀਬੁਨਸੀਬੀ।
ਸਾਰੀਆਂ (ਗਿਆਨ ਇੰਦ੍ਰੀਆਂ) ਨਾਲੋਂ ਚਰਨ ਨੀਵੇਂ ਹੋਏ, (ਇਹ) ਆਪਾ ਭਾਵ ਗਵਾਕੇ (ਉਚੇ) ਨਸੀਬਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਨ।
Among these all, the feet are placed at the lowest level and they repudiating ego are fortunate.
ਹਉਮੈਰੋਗੁਮਿਟਾਇਦਾਸਤਿਗੁਰਪੂਰਾਕਰੈਤਬੀਬੀ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਪੂਰਨ ਹਕੀਮੀ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੇ ਰੋਗ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਟਾ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
The true Guru by giving treatment removes the malady of ego.
ਪੈਰੀਪੈਰਹਿਰਾਸਕਰਿਗੁਰਸਿਖਸੁਣਿਗੁਰਸਿਖਮਨੀਬੀ।
ਪੈਰੀਂ ਪੈਣ ਦੀ ਰਹੁਰੀਤ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਗੁਰ ਸਿੱਖ੍ਯਾ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਣਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਿਖ ਮਨਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ ਧਾਰਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ)।
The true disciples of the Guru touch the feet and bow and abide by the instructions of the Guru.
ਮੁਰਦਾਹੋਇਮੁਰੀਦੁਗਰੀਬੀ।੩।
ਜੋ ਗ਼ਰੀਬ ਮੁਰਦਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਵੇ ਉਹ ਮੁਰੀਦੀ (ਸਿੱਖੀ ਦੇ ਜੋਗ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ)।
He who becomes humble and dead to all desires is the true disciple.
ਲਹੁੜੀਹੋਇਚੀਚੁੰਗਲੀਪੈਧੀਛਾਪਿਮਿਲੀਵਡਿਆਈ।
(ਜਿਵੇਂ) ਨਿੱਕੀ ਚੀਚੀ ਅੰਗੁਲੀ ਨੂੰ ਛਾਪਾਂ ਪਾਉਣ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ।
The smallest finger is respected and adorned by making it wear the ring.
ਲਹੁੜੀਘਨਹਰਬੂੰਦਹੁਇਪਰਗਟੁਮੋਤੀਸਿਪਸਮਾਈ।
ਨਿੱਕੀ ਬੱਦਲ ਦੀ ਬੂੰਦ ਹੋਕੇ ਸਿੱਪ ਵਿਚ (ਜਦ) ਸਮਾਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਮੋਤੀ ਹੋਕੇ (ਨਿਕਲਦੀ ਹੈ)।
The drop from the cloud is small but the same but getting into the mouth of shell becomes pearl.
ਲਹੁੜੀਬੂਟੀਕੇਸਰੈਮਥੈਟਿਕਾਸੋਭਾਪਾਈ।
ਕੇਸਰ ਦੀ ਬੂਟੀ ਨਿੱਕੀ ਹੋਈ (ਤਾਂ) ਮੱਥੇ ਵਿਚ ਟਿੱਕਾ ਹੋਕੇ ਵਡ੍ਯਾਈ ਪਾਈ।
The plant of saffron (Messua ferria) is small one but the same adorns the forehead in the form of consecratory mark.
ਲਹੁੜੀਪਾਰਸਪਥਰੀਅਸਟਧਾਤੁਕੰਚਨੁਕਰਵਾਈ।
ਨਿੱਕੀ ਪਾਰਸ ਦੀ ਗੀਟੀ ਅੱਠਾਂ ਧਾਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੋਨਾ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ।
The philosopher’s stone is small but transforms alloy of eighty metals into gold.
ਜਿਉਮਣਿਲਹੁੜੇਸਪਸਿਰਿਦੇਖੈਲੁਕਿਲੁਕਿਲੋਕਲੁਕਾਈ।
ਜਿੱਕੂੰ ਮਣੀ ਸੱਪ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਵਿਖੇ ਨਿੱਕੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਲੁਕ ਕੇ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੇ ਲੋਕ ਦੇਖਦੇ ਹਨ।
In the head of small snake remains the jewel which people behold in wonder.
ਜਾਣਿਰਸਾਇਣੁਪਾਰਿਅਹੁਰਤੀਮੁਲਿਨਜਾਇਮੁਲਾਈ।
ਪਾਰੇ ਦੀ ਰਸਾਇਣ ਥੋਂ ਜੋ ਰੱਤੀ ਬਣਦੀ ਹੈ (ਕਿਸੇ) ਮੁੱਲ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਰਾਬਰੀ ਕਰਦੀ (ਭਾਵ ਅਮੋਲਕ ਚੀਜ਼ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ)।
From mercury is prepared elixir which is invaluable.
ਆਪੁਗਵਾਇਨਆਪੁਗਣਾਈ।੪।
ਜੋ ਆਪਾ ਭਾਵ ਗਵਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਉਹ) ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪ ਨਹੀਂ ਗਿਣਾਉਂਦੇ॥
Those who eschew ego never allow themselves to be noticed.
ਅਗਿਤਤੀਜਲੁਸੀਅਰਾਕਿਤੁਅਵਗੁਣਿਕਿਤੁਗੁਣਵੀਚਾਰਾ।
ਅੱਗ ਕਿਸ ਅਵਗੁਣ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਤੱਤੀ (ਭਾਵ ਤਮੋਗੁਣੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ) ਜਲ ਕਿਸ ਗੁਣ (ਕਰਕੇ) ਸੀਤਲ (ਭਾਵ ਸਤੋਗੁਣੀ) ਹੈ।
It is a matter worth pondering as to how fire is hot and water cold.
ਅਗੀਧੂਆਧਉਲਹਰੁਜਲੁਨਿਰਮਲਗੁਰਗਿਆਨਸੁਚਾਰਾ।
ਅੱਗ ਮੰਦਰ ਨੂੰ (ਕਿਉਂ) ਧੂੰਆ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ ਮੈਲਾ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ) ਤੇ ਪਾਣੀ (ਕਿਉਂ) ਨਿਰਮਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ? ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਗਿਆਨ ਨਾਲ (ਏਸਦਾ) ਵੀਚਾਰ ਕਰੋ।
The fire soiles the building by its smoke and water cleanses it. This fact requires the guidance of Guru.
ਕੁਲਦੀਪਕੁਬੈਸੰਤਰਹੁਜਲਕੁਲਕਵਲੁਵਡੇਪਰਵਾਰਾ।
ਅੱਗ ਦੀ ਕੁਲ ਦਾ (ਬਲਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ) ਦੀਵਾ (ਛੋਟਾ ਤੇ ਬੁਝਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਵਡਾ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ)। ਤੇ ਜਲ ਦੀ ਕੁਲ ਕਵਲ ਫੁਲ (ਦੁਹਾਂ ਦੇ) ਵਡੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਹਨ।
In the family and dynasty of fire is lamp, and to water belongs a bigger family of lotus.
ਦੀਪਕਹੇਤੁਪਤੰਗਦਾਕਵਲੁਭਵਰਪਰਗਟੁਪਾਹਾਰਾ।
ਦੀਵੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਤੰਗ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਕਵਲਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਭੌਰਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਹੈ, (ਪਰ) ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਖੇ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਹੈ (ਕਿ ਪਤੰਗ ਦੀਵੇ ਤੇ ਸੜ ਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਭੌਰਾ ਮਸਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਗੁੰਜਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ)।
This is well known all over the world that moth loves fire (and gets burnt) and black bee loves lotus (and rests in it).
ਅਗੀਲਾਟਉਚਾਟਹੈਸਿਰੁਉਚਾਕਰਿਕਰੈਕੁਚਾਰਾ।
ਅੱਗ ਦੀ ਲਾਟ ਵਿਖੇ ਘਬਰਾਹਟ ਹੈ (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ) ਸਿਰ ਉੱਚਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਕੁਕਰਮ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ ਜਿਸਨੂੰ ਲੱਗੇ, ਸਾੜ ਦੇਂਦੀ ਹੈ)।
The flame of fire goes up and like an egotist behaves viciously.
ਸਿਰੁਨੀਵਾਨੀਵਾਣਿਵਾਸੁਪਾਣੀਅੰਦਰਿਪਰਉਪਕਾਰਾ।
ਪਾਣੀ ਦਾ ਸਿਰ ਨੀਵਾਂ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਨੀਵੇਂ ਥਾਂਉਂ ਪਰ ਵਾਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਇਉਂ) ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਉਪਕਾਰ ਹੈ।
Water goes towards low level and has qualities of altruism.
ਨਿਵਚਲੈਸੋਗੁਰੂਪਿਆਰਾ।੫।
ਜੋ ਨਿਵਕੇ ਚਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ (ਸਿਖ) ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਹੈ।
The Guru loves him who remains humble by nature.
ਰੰਗੁਮਜੀਠਕਸੁੰਭਦਾਕਚਾਪਕਾਕਿਤੁਵੀਚਾਰੇ।
ਮਜੀਠ ਤੇ ਕਸੁੰਭੇ ਦਾ ਰੰਗ ਕਿਸ ਵੀਚਾਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਪੱਕਾ ਤੇ ਕੱਚਾ ਹੈ?
Why madder is the fast colour and safflower temporary.
ਧਰਤੀਉਖਣਿਕਢੀਐਮੂਲਮਜੀਠਜੜੀਜੜਤਾਰੇ।
(ਮਜੀਠ) ਧਰਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਪੁੱਟਕੇ ਕੱਢੀਦੀ ਹੈ, ਮਜੀਠ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਢ ਜੜਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਜੜਿਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
The roots of madder spread in earth, it is first brought out and put into the pit and is pounded with wooden pestles.
ਉਖਲਮੁਹਲੇਕੁਟੀਐਪੀਹਣਿਪੀਸੈਚਕੀਭਾਰੇ।
ਚੱਟੂ ਵਿਚ ਪਾਕੇ ਮੋਹਲੇ ਨਾਲ ਕੁਟੀ ਦੀ ਹੈ (ਫੇਰ) ਪੀਹਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਚੱਕੀ ਦੇ ਭਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਪੀਸਦਾ ਹੈ।
Then it is crushed into a heavy mill.
ਸਹੈਅਵੱਟਣੁਅੱਗਿਦਾਹੋਇਪਿਆਰੀਮਿਲੈਪਿਆਰੇ।
ਅੱਗ ਦੇ ਉਬਾਲੇ ਸਹਾਰਦੀ ਹੈ (ਫੇਰ) ਪਿਆਰੀ ਹੋਕੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ।
It further suffers the pain of getting boiled and decorated in water and then only it adorns (with fast colour) the clothes of the beloved.
ਪੋਹਲੀਅਹੁਸਿਰੁਕਢਿਕੈਫੁਲੁਕਸੁੰਭਚਲੁੰਭਖਿਲਾਰੇ।
ਡੋਡੀਆਂ ਥੋਂ ਸਿਰ ਕੱਢਕੇ ਕਸੁੰਭੇ ਦਾ ਫੁੱਲ ਗਾੜ੍ਹਾ ਰੰਗ ਦੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।
The safflower comes up from the upper portion of the thorny weed Carthamus tinctoria and yields its deep colour.

ਟਕਸਾਲ ਵਿਚ 'ਸਿੱਕਾ' (ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਸਿੱਕਾ) ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, 'ਘਰ ਵਦਾਣ ਤੇ ਅਹਿਰਣ ਵਿਚ ਅਟਲ ਤੇ ਖੁਸ਼ (ਚਮਕਦਾਰ) ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਸ਼ੁੱਧ ਮੋਹਰ (ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ) ਖਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਵਿਚ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
Then becoming pure muhar, a gold coin, it gets deposited into treasury i.e.the gold which was in the dust particles because of its humility, ultimately turns out to be a coin of the treasure house.
ਖਸਖਸਦਾਣਾਹੋਇਕੈਖਾਕਅੰਦਰਿਹੋਇਖਾਕਸਮਾਵੈ।
ਖਸ਼ਖਾਸ਼ ਦਾ ਬੀਜ ਹੋਇਕੇ ਮਿਟੀ ਵਿਖੇ ਮਿਟੀ ਹੋਕੇ ਸਮਾਂਵਦਾ ਹੈ।
Mixing with dust the poppy seed becomes one with dust.
ਦੋਸਤੁਪੋਸਤੁਬੂਟੁਹੋਇਰੰਗਬਿਰੰਗੀਫੁੱਲਖਿੜਾਵੈ।
ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪੋਸਤ ਦਾ ਬੂਟਾ ਬਣਕੇ ਨਾਨਾ ਰੰਗਾਂ ਦੇ ਫਲ ਖਿੜਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Becoming lovely poppy plant it blossoms with variegated flowers.
ਹੋਡਾਹੋਡੀਡੋਡੀਆਇਕਦੂੰਇਕਚੜ੍ਹਾਉਚੜ੍ਹਾਵੈ।
ਜਿਦੋ ਜਿਦੀ ਡੋਡੀਆਂ ਇਕ ਥੋਂ ਇਕ ਵਧੀਕ ਹੋਕੇ ਚੜ੍ਹਾਵਾ ਦੱਸਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ।
Its flower buds vie with one another to look beautiful.
ਸੂਲੀਉਪਰਿਖੇਲਣਾਪਿਛੋਂਦੇਸਿਰਿਛਤ੍ਰੁਧਰਾਵੈ।
ਸੂਲੀ' ਡੰਡੀ ਉਪਰ ਪੋਸਤ ਖੇਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਿਛੋਂ ਸਿਰ ਪੁਰ ਛਤਰ ਧਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਭਾਵ ਛਤ੍ਰਾਕਾਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ)।
First that poppy suffers on a long thorn but afterwards becoming circular assumes the shape of canopy.
ਚੁਖੁਚੁਖੁਹੋਇਮਲਾਇਕੈਲੋਹੂਪਾਣੀਰੰਗਿਰੰਗਾਵੈ।
ਮਲਨ ਨਾਲ ਟੁਕੜੇ ਟੁਕੜੇ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਫੇਰ ਪਾਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਲਹੂ ਦੇ ਰੰਗ ਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Getting sliced it oozes its sap of the colour of blood.
ਪਿਰਮਪਿਆਲਾਮਜਲਸੀਜੋਗਭੋਗਸੰਜੋਗਬਣਾਵੈ।
ਮਜਲਸਾਂ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਲਾ ਹੋਕੇ ਜੋਗ ਅਤੇ ਭੋਗ ਦਾ ਸੰਜੋਗ ਬਣਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ ਜੋਗੀ ਲੋਕ ਛਕ ਕੇ ਸਮਾਧਿ ਵਿਚ ਤੇ ਵਿਖਈ ਭੋਗ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
Then in the parties, becoming the cup of love, it becomes the cause of joining of bhog, enjoyment, with the yoga.
ਅਮਲੀਹੋਇਸੁਮਜਲਸਆਵੈ।੧੩।
(ਜਿਸ ਅਮਲ ਦਾ) ਅਮਲੀ ਹੋਵੇ ਉਸੇ ਹੀ ਮਜਲਸ ਵਿਚ ਰਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
Its addicts come to parties to sip it.
ਰਸਭਰਿਆਰਸੁਰਖਦਾਬੋਲਣਅਣੁਬੋਲਣਅਭਿਰਿਠਾ।
(ਕਮਾਦ) ਰਸ ਦਾ ਭਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਸਵਾਦ ਰਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਬੋਲਣ ਤੇ ਨਾ ਬੋਲਣ (ਦੁਹਾਂ ਦਸ਼ਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਮਿੱਠਾ ਹੈ। (ਭਾਵ ਐਵੇਂ ਚੂਪੋ, ਚਾਹੇ ਅੱਗ ਵਿਚ ਤਾਕੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਤੇ ਪਟਾਕਾ ਚਲਾਕੇ ਚੂਪੋ ਮਿੱਠਾ ਹੈ। ਕਈ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਮਾਦ ਨੂੰ ਬੋਲਣ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਅਣਬੋਲਣਾ ਮਿੱਠਾ ਹੈ, ਭਾਵ ਵਾ ਵਗੇ ਤਦ ਕਮਾਦ ਬੋਲਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ)।
Full of juice (sugarcane) is tasty and whether it speaks or not, in both the conditions, it is sweet.
ਸੁਣਿਆਅਣਸੁਣਿਆਕਰੈਕਰੇਵੀਚਾਰਿਡਿਠਾਅਣਡਿਠਾ।
ਸੁਣੀ ਗਲ ਅਣਸੁਣੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਡਿੱਠੇ ਨੂੰ ਅਣਡਿੱਠ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ ਕਮਾਦ ਦੇ ਖੇਤ ਵਿਚ ਗੱਲ ਕੀਤੀ ਸੁਣੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਨਾ ਲੁਕਿਆ ਆਦਮੀ ਲੱਭਦਾ ਹੈ)।
It listens not to what is said and sees not what is visible, i.e. in the sugarcane field one neither can listen to other nor a person is visible in it.
ਅਖੀਧੂੜਿਅਟਾਈਆਅਖੀਵਿਚਿਅੰਗੂਰੁਬਹਿਠਾ।
ਜਦ ਅਖਾਂ 'ਧੂੜ' ਮਿਟੀ ਵਿਚ ਗਡੀਆਂ (ਭਾਵ ਜਦ ਮਿਟੀ ਵਿਚ ਇਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੰਢਾਂ ਬੀਜਦੇ ਹਨ ਤਦ) ਅੱਖਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਅੰਗੂਰ ਫੁੱਟਦੇ ਹਨ।
When in the form of seed the nodes of sugarcane are put into the earth, they sprout up.
ਇਕਦੂਬਾਹਲੇਬੂਟਹੋਇਸਿਰਤਲਵਾਇਆਇਠਹੁਇਠਾ।
ਇਕ ਬੂਟੇ ਥੋਂ ਕਈ ਬੂਟੇ ਸਿਰ ਹੇਠ ਪੈਰ ਉਤੇ ਹੋਕੇ (ਉਗਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸਭ ਨੂੰ) ਵਡਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਯ ਥੋਂ ਪ੍ਰੇਯ ਲਗਦਾ ਹੈ (ਸੋਹਣਾ ਲਗਦਾ ਹੈ)।
From one sugarcane grow many a plant, each lovely from top to bottom.
ਦੁਹੁਖੁੰਢਾਵਿਚਿਪੀੜੀਐਟੋਟੇਲਾਹੇਇਤੁਗੁਣਿਮਿਠਾ।
ਦੋ ਵੇਲਣਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਪੀੜੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਟੋਟੇ ਟੋਟੇ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਫੇਰ ਰਹੁ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ), ਇਸ ਗੁਣ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲਗਦਾ ਹੈ।
It is crushed between two cylinderical rollers because of its sweet juice.
ਵੀਹਇਕੀਹਵਰਤਦਾਅਵਗੁਣਿਆਰੇਪਾਪਪਣਿਠਾ।
ਵੀਹ' ਜਗਤ 'ਇਕੀਹ' ਸਤਿਸੰਗਤਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਰਤਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਭਾਵ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਲੋਕ ਸ਼ਾਦੀਆਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਗੁੜ ਵਰਤਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਸੰਗਤ ਜੋੜ ਮੇਲ ਆਦਿਕਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ, ਪਰ) ਪਾਪੀ (ਜੇ ਵਰਤਦੇ ਹਨ ਤਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ) ਆਪ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਨਾਸ਼ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ ਜੇ ਇਸਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਾਬ ਵਰਤਣ ਤਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਾਪ ਦਾ ਫਲ ਭੋਗਦੇ ਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ)।
Worthy people use it on auspicious days whereas the wicked also use it (by preparing wine etc out of it) and get perished.
ਮੰਨੈਗੰਨੈਵਾਂਗਸੁਧਿਠਾ।੧੪।
(ਜੋ ਲੋਕ) ਗੰਨੇ ਵਾਂਗੂੰ ਮੰਨਣ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਭਾਵ ਜਿੱਕੁਰ ਉਹ ਕਈ ਵਿਪਦਾ ਵਿਚ ਬੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਿਠਾਸ ਨਹੀਂ ਛਡਦੇ ਓਹ ਸਦਾ) ਦ੍ਰਿੜ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ ਮੁਕਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ)।
Those who cultivated the nature of sugarcane i.e. do not shed sweetness though in peril, are indeed steadfast persons.
ਘਣਹਰਬੂੰਦਸੁਹਾਵਣੀਨੀਵੀਹੋਇਅਗਾਸਹੁਆਵੈ।
ਬੱਦਲ ਦੀ ਸੁਹਣੀ ਬੂੰਦ ਅਕਾਸ਼ੋਂ ਨੀਵੀਂ ਹੋਕੇ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
A lovely drop of cloud falls from the sky and mitigating its ego goes into the mouth of a shell in sea.
ਆਪੁਗਵਾਇਸਮੁੰਦੁਵੇਖਿਸਿਪੈਦੇਮੁਹਿਵਿਚਿਸਮਾਵੈ।
(ਅੱਗੋਂ) ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਨੂੰ (ਅਥਾਹ) ਵੇਖਕੇ ਆਪਾ ਭਾਵ ਗੁਆ ਕੇ ਸਿੱਪ ਦੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਵਿਖੇ ਵੜ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
The shell, at once, closing its mouth dives down and hides itself in the underworld.
ਲੈਦੋਹੀਮੁਹਿਬੂੰਦਸਿਪੁਚੁੰਭੀਮਾਰਿਪਤਾਲਿਲੁਕਾਵੈ।
ਸਿੱਪ ਬੂੰਦ ਨੂੰ ਮੂੰਹ ਵਿਖੇ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੀ ਪਤਾਲ ਵਿਚ ਟੁੱਭੀ ਮਾਰਕੇ (ਕਿਸੇ ਚਿਟਾਨ ਆਦਿ ਦੇ ਆਸਰੇ ਨਾਲ) ਜਾ ਲੁਕਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਫੜਿਕਢੈਮਰੁਜੀਵੜਾਪਰਕਾਰਜਨੋਆਪੁਫੜਾਵੈ।
ਮਰਜੀਉੜਾ ਫੜ ਕੱਢਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਮਾਨੋ) ਸਿੱਪ ਪਰਸੁਆਰਥ ਨੂੰ ਆਪ ਫੜਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
The diver catches hold of it and it also allows itself to be caught for the sale of altruistic sense.
ਪਰਵਸਿਪਰਉਪਕਾਰਨੋਪਰਹਥਿਪਥਰਦੰਦਭਨਾਵੈ।
ਪਰੋਪਕਾਰ ਦੇ ਲਈ ਪਰਾਏ ਵੱਸ ਪੈਕੇ, ਪਰਾਏ ਹੱਥੀਂ ਪੱਥਰ ਨਾਲ ਦੰਦ ਭਨਾਂਵਦਾ ਹੈ।
Controlled by the sense of benevolence it gets itself broken on stone.
ਭੁਲਿਅਭੁਲਿਅਮੁਲੁਦੇਮੋਤੀਦਾਨਨਪਛੋਤਾਵੈ।
ਭੁੱਲਕੇ ਜਾਂ ਨਾ ਭੁਲ ਕੇ ਮੋਤੀ ਦਾ ਦਾਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਸਿੱਪੀ) ਕਦੇ ਬੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੱਛੋਤਾਉਂਦੀ।
Knowing well or unknowingly it bestows a free gift and never repents.
ਸਫਲਜਨਮੁਕੋਈਵਰੁਸਾਵੈ।੧੫।
(ਉਸਦਾ) ਸਫਲ ਜਨਮ ਹੈ ਜਿੱਥੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਵਰੋਸਾਵੇ।
Any rare one gets such a blest life.
ਹੀਰੇਹੀਰਾਬੇਧੀਐਬਰਮੇਕਣੀਅਣੀਹੋਇਹੀਰੈ।
ਵਰਮੇ ਦੀ ਅਣੀ ਨਾਲ ਹੀਰੇ ਦੀ ਕਣੀ ਕਰਕੇ, ਹੀਰਾ ਧੀਰੇ ਧੀਰੇ ਵੇਧਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਭਾਵ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ, ਸ਼ਬਦ ਰੂਪ ਹੀਰੇ ਦੀ ਕਣੀ ਨਾਲ ਮਨ ਹੀਰਾ ਵਿੰਨ੍ਹਦੇ ਹਨ)।
With diamond-bit of drill the piece of diamond is cut gradually i.e. with the diamond bit of the Word of the Guru the mind-diamond is pierced.
ਧਾਗਾਹੋਇਪਰੋਈਐਹੀਰੈਮਾਲਰਸਾਲਗਹੀਰੈ।
ਧਾਗਾ ਹੋਵੇ (ਭਾਵ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦੀ ਡੋਰੀ ਹੋਵੇ) ਤਾਂ ਹੀਰਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਮਾਲਾ ਵਡੀ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਪਰੋਈਦੀ ਹੈ।
With the thread (of love) a beautiful string of diamonds is prepared.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਗੁਰੁਸਬਦਲਿਵਹਉਮੈਮਾਰਿਮਰੈਮਨੁਧੀਰੈ।
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਖੇ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮਮਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਕੇ ਮਨ ਅਚੱਲ ਕਰੇ।
In the holy congregation, merging consciousness in the Word and eschewing ego, the mind is tranquilized.
ਮਨਜਿਣਿਮਨੁਦੇਲਏਮਨਗੁਣਿਵਿਚਿਗੁਣਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸਰੀਰੈ।
ਮਨ (ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਦੇਕੇ, ਮਨ ਅਰਥਾਤ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ (ਯਾ ਗੁਰਮਤ) ਲਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਮਨ ਜਿੱਤੀਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਇਹ) ਗੁਣਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਗੁਣ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰੀਰ (ਵਿਖੇ) ਹੈ (ਉਹ ਗੁਣ ਕੀ ਹੈ, ਅੱਗੇ ਦੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ)।
Conquering the mind, one should surrender it (before the Guru) and adopt the virtues of gurmukhs, the Guru oriented ones.
ਪੈਰੀਪੈਪਾਖਾਕੁਹੋਇਕਾਮਧੇਨੁਸੰਤਰੇਣੁਨਨੀਰੈ।
ਪੈਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਖਾਕ ਹੋਕੇ (ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੀ) ਚਰਣੀਂ ਪਏ, (ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ) ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੀ (ਰੇਣ) ਧੂੜੀ ਦੀ (ਨੀਰੈ=) ਬਰਾਬਰੀ ਕਾਮਧੇਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੀ।
He ought to fall on the feet of saints because even the wish-granting cow (Kamadhenu) is not equal to the dust of the feet of saints.
ਸਿਲਾਅਲੂਣੀਚਟਣੀਲਖਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਰਸਤਰਸਨਸੀਰੈ।
(ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਰੂਪ) ਅਲੂਣੀ ਸਿਲਾ ਦੇ ਚੱਟਣ ਦੀ (ਸੀਰੇ=) ਮਿਠਾਸ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਰਸ ਤਰਸਦੇ ਹਨ।
This act is nothing but licking of the tasteless stone though myriad tastes of sweet juices one strives for.
ਵਿਰਲਾਸਿਖਸੁਣੈਗੁਰਪੀਰੈ।੧੬।
(ਪਰ) ਗੁਰਾਂ ਪੀਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖ੍ਯਾ ਨੂੰ (ਕੋਈ) ਵਿਰਲਾ ਹੀ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
Rare is the Sikh who listens to (and accepts) the teachings of the Guru.
ਗੁਰਸਿਖੀਗੁਰਸਿਖਸੁਣਿਅੰਦਰਿਸਿਆਣਾਬਾਹਰਿਭੋਲਾ।
ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸਿੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਖਿਆ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਣਕੇ, ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਸਿਆਣਾ ਤੇ ਬਾਹਰੋਂ ਸਿੱਧ ਪੱਧਰਾ (ਲਗਦਾ ਹੈ)।
Listening to the teachings of the Guru, the Sikh becomes wise internally though apparently he looks a simpleton.
ਸਬਦਿਸੁਰਤਿਸਾਵਧਾਨਹੋਇਵਿਣੁਗੁਰਸਬਦਿਨਸੁਣਈਬੋਲਾ।
ਸਬਦ ਸੁਰਤ ਵਿਖੇ ਸਾਵਧਾਨ ਹੋਕੇ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦ ਬਾਝ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੁਣਦਾ (ਮਾਨੋਂ ਬੋਲਾ ਹੈ)।
He with full care keeps his consciousness attuned to the Word and listens to nothing except the words of Guru.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਦਰਸਨੁਦੇਖਣਾਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਵਿਣੁਅੰਨ੍ਹਾਖੋਲਾ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਨੂੰ ਦੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਝ (ਮਾਨੋਂ) ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਾਣਾ ਹੈ।
He beholds the true Guru and without the company of the saints feels himself blind and deaf.
ਵਾਹਗੁਰੂਗੁਰੁਸਬਦੁਲੈਪਿਰਮਪਿਆਲਾਚੁਪਿਚਬੋਲਾ।
ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਥੋਂ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਲਾ ਚੁਪ ਚਾਪ ਹੋਕੇ ਪੀਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
The Guru's word he receives is Vahiguru, the wondrous Lord, and remains silently immersed in delight.
ਪੈਰੀਪੈਪਾਖਾਕਹੋਇਚਰਣਿਧੋਇਚਰਣੋਦਕਝੋਲਾ।
ਪੈਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਹੋਕੇ ਚਰਨ ਬੰਦਨਾ (ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ), ਚਰਨ ਧੋਕੇ ਚਰਨਾਂਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
He bows on the feet and becoming (humble) like dust goes on quaffing the nectar of the feet (of the Lord).
ਚਰਣਕਵਲਚਿਤੁਭਵਰੁਕਰਿਭਵਜਲਅੰਦਰਿਰਹੈਨਿਰੋਲਾ।
ਭੌਰੇ ਸਮਾਨ ਚਿਤ ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਖੇ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
He remains involved like black bee in the lotus feet (of the Guru) and thus living in this world ocean remains unsmeared (by its water and dust).
ਜੀਵਣਿਮੁਕਤਿਸਚਾਵਾਚੋਲਾ।੧੭।
ਜੀਵਨ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਸੱਚਾ ਜਾਮਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ ਇਹ ਕਿ ਸਫਲ ਜਨਮ ਹੈ)।
His is life of a liberated one during the life on earth i.e. he is a jivanmukt'.
ਸਿਰਿਵਿਚਿਨਿਕੈਵਾਲਹੋਇਸਾਧੂਚਰਣਚਵਰਕਰਿਢਾਲੈ।
ਕੇਸ ਸਿਰ ਵਿਖੇ ਪਤਲੀ (ਸ਼ੈ ਹਨ ਸੋ) ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਣਾਂ ਪੁਰ ਚਵਰ ਕਰਾਕੇ (ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ) ਝਾੜੇ, (ਕਈ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਬਾਲ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਖੇ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਦਾ ਵੱਲ ਸਿੱਖੇ)।
Preparing the whisk of even the hair of one's head (the gurmukh) one should wave it on the feet of the saints i.e. he should be extremely humble.
ਗੁਰਸਰਤੀਰਥਨਾਇਕੈਅੰਝੂਭਰਿਭਰਿਪੈਰਿਪਖਾਲੈ।
(ਜਦ ਜੁਬਾ ਹੋਵੇ ਆਪ) ਗੁਰਸਰ ਤੀਰਥ ਵਿਖੇ ਅਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਜਾਂ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕਰਕੇ) ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨੇਤ੍ਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਹੰਝੂਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਧੋਵੇ। (ਭਾਵ ਗਦ ਗਦ ਹੋਕੇ ਅਤ੍ਯੰਤ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਕਰੇ।)
Bathing in the pilgrimage place, he should wash the feet of the Guru with tears of love.
ਕਾਲੀਹੂੰਧਉਲੇਕਰੇਚਲਾਜਾਣਿਨੀਸਾਣੁਸਮ੍ਹਾਲੈ।
ਜਦ ਕਾਲੇ ਵਾਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਕੁਦਰਤ) ਚਿੱਟੇ ਕਰੇ (ਤਦ) ਚਲੇ ਜਾਣ ਦੀ ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨੀ ਸਮਝੇ।
From black, his hair may turn grey but then considering his time to go (from this world) he should cherish in his heart the symbol (love) of the Lord.
ਪੈਰੀਪੈਪਾਖਾਕਹੋਇਪੂਰਾਸਤਿਗੁਰੁਨਦਰਿਨਿਹਾਲੈ।
ਪੈਰੀਂ ਪੈਕੇ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਬਣੇ (ਤਦੋਂ) ਪੂਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨਦਰ ਨਿਹਾਲ ਕਰੇਗਾ।
When one, falling at the Guru's feet, becomes dust himself, i.e. totally deletes ego from his mind, the true Guru also then blesses and obliges him.
ਕਾਗਕੁਮੰਤਹੁੰਪਰਮਹੰਸੁਉਜਲਮੋਤੀਖਾਇਖਵਾਲੈ।
ਕੁਮੰਤ੍ਰੀ ਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਹੰਸ ਕਰੇ (ਭਾਵ ਮੈਲੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਉੱਜਲ ਕਰੇ, ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ) ਉੱਜਲ ਮੋਤੀ (ਆਪ) ਖਾਵੇ (ਹੋਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਖਵਾਏ।
He should become swan and leave black wisdom of crow and should himself perform and get others perform pearl-like invaluable deeds.
ਵਾਲਹੁਨਿਕੀਆਖੀਐਗੁਰਸਿਖੀਸੁਣਿਗੁਰਸਿਖਪਾਲੈ।
ਵਾਲ ਥੋਂ ਸੂਖਮ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖੀ (ਕਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ ਇਸਨੂੰ) ਸੁਣਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸਿੱਖ ਹੀ ਪਾਲੇ।
The teachings of the Guru are subtler even than the hair itself; the Sikh should always follow them.
ਗੁਰਸਿਖੁਲੰਘੈਪਿਰਮਪਿਆਲੈ।੧੮।
ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸਿੱਖ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਲੇ ਨਾਲ ਪਾਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
The Sikhs of the Guru go across the world-ocean by virtue of their cup full of love.
ਗੁਲਰਅੰਦਰਿਭੁਣਹਣਾਗੁਲਰਨੋਂਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡੁਵਖਾਣੈ।
ਗੁੱਲਰ (ਨਾਮੇ ਬ੍ਰਿੱਛ) ਵਿਖੇ (ਜ) ਮੱਛਰ ਜਾਂ ਕੀੜਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਉਹ) ਗੁੱਲਰ ਨੂੰ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ।
Fig is the cosmos for the insect living in it.
ਗੁਲਰਲਗਣਿਲਖਫਲਇਕਦੂਲਖਅਲਖਨਜਾਣੈ।
(ਪਰੰਤੂ ਉਸ) ਗੁੱਲਰ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਫਲ ਲਗਦੇ (ਫੇਰ) ਇਕ ਫਲ ਤੋਂ ਕਈ ਲੱਖ ਹੋਕੇ ਅਲੱਗ ਹੀ (ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ), ਗਿਣਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ।
But on tree grow millions of fruits which multiply further in numberless quantity.
ਲਖਲਖਬਿਰਖਬਗੀਚਿਅਹੁਲਖਬਗੀਚੇਬਾਗਬਬਾਣੈ।
(ਇਕ) ਬਗੀਚੇਂ ਥੋਂ ਕਈ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਬਗੀਚਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਬਾਗ ਕਹੀਦੇ ਹਨ।
Gardens are there of myriad trees and likewise are millions of gardens in the world.
ਲਖਬਾਗਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡਵਿਚਿਲਖਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡਲੂਅਵਿਚਿਆਣੈ।
(ਇਕ) ਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡ ਵਿਖੇ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਬਾਗ ਹਨ, (ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੇ ਇਕ) ਰੋਮ ਵਿਖੇ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਹੀ ਬ੍ਰਹਿਮੰਡ ਵਿਦਮਾਨ ਹਨ (ਯਥਾ:-”ਕਿਤੀ ਲਖ ਕਰੋੜਿ ਪਿਰੀਏ ਰੋਮ ਨ ਪੁਜਣਿ ਤੇਰਿਆ। “)।
Millions of universes are there in one small hair of God.
ਮਿਹਰਿਕਰੇਜੇਮਿਹਰਿਵਾਨੁਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਰੰਗੁਮਾਣੈ।
ਜਿਸ ਪੁਰ ਈਸ਼੍ਵਰ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ (ਉਹ) ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ (ਮਿਲਕੇ) ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
If that kind God showers His grace, only then a gurmukh can enjoy the delight of the holy congregation.
ਪੈਰੀਪੈਪਾਖਾਕੁਹੋਇਸਾਹਿਬੁਦੇਚਲੈਓਹੁਭਾਣੈ।
ਅਤੇ ਪੈਰੀਂ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਹੋਕੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਭਾਣੇ ਵਿਖੇ ਉਹ ਚਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
Only then falling on the feet and becoming dust, the humble one can mould himself according to the divine Will (hukam) of the Lord.
ਹਉਮੈਜਾਇਤਜਾਇਸਿਞਾਣੈ।੧੯।
(ਜਦ) ਮਮਤਾ ਜਾਵੇ ਤਦ (ਸ੍ਵੈ ਸਰੂਪ ਦੀ) ਜਗਾ ਨੂੰ ਪਛਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
Only when ego is erased, this fact is realized and identified.
ਦੁਇਦਿਹਿਚੰਦੁਅਲੋਪੁਹੋਇਤਿਐਦਿਹਚੜ੍ਹਦਾਹੋਇਨਿਕਾ।
ਦੋ ਦਿਨ (ਅਮਾਵਸ ਤੇ ਏਕਮ ਨੂੰ) ਚੰਦ ਲੋਪ ਰਹਿਕੇ, ਤੀਜੀ ਰਾਤ ਨੂੰ ਨਿੱਕਾ ਹੋਕੇ ਚੜ੍ਹਦਾ ਹੈ।
Remaining invisible for two days, third day the moon is beholden in a small size.
ਉਠਿਉਠਿਜਗਤੁਜੁਹਾਰਦਾਗਗਨਮਹੇਸੁਰਮਸਤਕਿਟਿਕਾ।
(ਸਾਰਾ) ਜਹਾਨ ਉਠ ਉਠ ਕੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਟੇਕਦਾ ਹੈ (ਮਾਨੋਂ) ਅਕਾਸ਼ ਰੂਪ ਸ਼ਿਵਜੀ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਤੇ ਤਿਲਕ ਹੈ।
Supposed to adorn the forehead of Mahesa, people bow to it again and again.
ਸੋਲਹਕਲਾਸੰਘਾਰੀਐਸਫਲੁਜਨਮੁਸੋਹੈਕਲਿਇਕਾ।
ਜਦ ਸੋਲਾਂ ਕਲਾਂ ਹੁੰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ (ਫੇਰ ਸੰਘਾਰੀਐ=) ਘਟਣ ਲਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਕ ਕਲਾ (ਏਕਮ ਨੂੰ ਹੋਣ ਕਰਕੇ) ਸਫਲ ਜਨਮ (ਹੋਕੇ) ਸੋਭਦਾ ਹੈ।
When it has attained all the sixteen phases i.e. on the full moon night it begins diminishing and again reaches the position of the first day. People now bow before it.
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਕਿਰਣਿਸੁਹਾਵਣੀਨਿਝਰੁਝਰੈਸਿੰਜੈਸਹਸਿਕਾ।
(ਚੰਦਰਮਣੀ) ਸਿਕਦੀ ਸ਼ਹੁ ਨੂੰ ਦੇਖਕੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਸ਼੍ਰਵਦੀ (ਬ੍ਰਿੱਛਾਂ ਪਰ ਮਾਨੋਂ) ਸ਼ੋਭਦੀ ਹੈ (ਅਥਵਾ ਸੈਂਕੜਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਸਿੰਜਦੀ ਹੈ।)
Nectar is sprinkled by its rays and it irrigates all thirsty trees and fields.
ਸੀਤਲੁਸਾਂਤਿਸੰਤੋਖੁਦੇਸਹਜਸੰਜੋਗੀਰਤਨਅਮਿਕਾ।
ਸੀਤਲਤਾ, ਸ਼ਾਂਤਿ ਤੇ ਸੰਤੋਖ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਹਿਜ ਦਾ ਸੰਜੋਗੀ ਅਮੋਲ ਰਤਨ ਹੈ।
Peace, contentment and cool, these invaluable jewels are bestowed by it.
ਕਰੈਅਨੇਰਹੁਚਾਨਣਾਡੋਰਚਕੋਰਧਿਆਨੁਧਰਿਛਿਕਾ।
ਹਨੇਰੇ ਵਿਚ ਚਾਨਣਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਚਕੋਰ ਧਿਆਨ ਦੀ ਡੋਰ ਨਾਲ (ਉੱਚਾ ਚੰਦ ਵਲ) ਖਿੱਚਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
In darkness, it spreads light and provides the thread of meditation to the chakor, the redlegged partridge.
ਆਪੁਗਵਾਇਅਮੋਲਮਣਿਕਾ।੨੦।
ਆਪਾ ਗਵਾਉਣ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਅਮੋਲਕ ਮਾਣਕ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Only by erasing its ego it becomes an invaluable jewel.
ਹੋਇਨਿਮਾਣਾਭਗਤਿਕਰਿਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਧ੍ਰੂਹਰਿਦਰਸਨੁਪਾਇਆ।
ਧ੍ਰੂ ਨੇ ਨਿਮਾਣਾ ਹੋਕੇ ਭਗਤੀ ਕੀਤੀ, ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਹੋਕੇ ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਪਾਇਆ।
By becoming humble only, Dhru could behold the Lord.
ਭਗਤਿਵਛਲੁਹੋਇਭੇਟਿਆਮਾਣੁਨਿਮਾਣੇਆਪਿਦਿਵਾਇਆ।
(ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ) ਭਗਤ ਵਛਲ ਨੇ ਨਿਮਾਣੇ ਨੂੰ ਆਪ ਮਾਣ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੇਲ ਲਿਆ।
God, affectionate to the devotees, also embraced him and egoless Dhruv attained the highest glory.
ਮਾਤਲੋਕਵਿਚਿਮੁਕਤਿਕਰਿਨਿਹਚਲੁਵਾਸੁਅਗਾਸਿਚੜਾਇਆ।
ਮਾਤ ਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਮੁਕਤ ਕੀਤਾ, ਨਿਹਚਲ ਵਾਸ ਦਿਤਾ ਤੇ ਅਕਾਸ਼ ਚੜ੍ਹਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
In this mortal world he was granted liberation and then a stable place in the sky was given him.
ਚੰਦੁਸੂਰਜਤੇਤੀਸਕਰੋੜਿਪਰਦਖਣਾਚਉਫੇਰਿਫਿਰਾਇਆ।
ਚੰਦ ਸੂਰਜ ਤੇ ਤੇਤੀ ਕਰੋੜ (ਤਾਰੇ) ਸਭ ਤੋਂ (ਉਸਦੀ) ਪ੍ਰਦੱਖਣਾ ਕਰਾਈ।
Moon, sun and all the thirty three crores of angels circumambulate and revolve around him.
ਵੇਦਪੁਰਾਣਵਖਾਣਦੇਪਰਗਟੁਕਰਿਪਰਤਾਪੁਜਣਾਇਆ।
ਵੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਣ (ਇਹ ਕਥਾ) ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਕਿ ਏਹ) ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ਹੈ।

ਅਬਿਗਤਿਗਤਿਅਤਿਅਗਮਹੈਅਕਥਕਥਾਵੀਚਾਰੁਨਆਇਆ।
(ਪਰ ਪਰਮੇਸਰ ਤੇ ਉਸਦਾ ਕਰਤੱਵ) ਗਤੀ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹੈ, ਗੰਮਤਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਪਰੇ ਹੈ, ਕਥਨ ਤੋਂ ਅਕੱਥ ਹੈ, ਵੀਚਾਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਹੈ।
The story of that unmanifest Lord is extremely mystical, indescribable and beyond all thoughts.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸੁਖਫਲੁਅਲਖੁਲਖਾਇਆ।੨੧।੪।ਚਾਰਿ।
(ਪਰ ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਾ ਲਖਿਆ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਸੁਖ ਫਲ ਲਖਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
Only gurmukhs can have a glimpse of Him.
