ੴਸਤਿਗੁਰਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ॥

ਵਾਰ੬।
ਪੂਰਾਸਤਿਗੁਰੁਜਾਣੀਐਪੂਰੇਪੂਰਾਥਾਟੁਬਣਾਇਆ।
ਪੂਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ (ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੀ ਨੂੰ) ਜਾਣੀਏ, (ਉਸ) ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਪੂਰਾ ਬਣਾਉ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੈ।
One should understand the perfect true Guru who has created the grandeur (of creation) around.
ਪੂਰੇਪੂਰਾਸਾਧਸੰਗੁਪੂਰੇਪੂਰਾਮੰਤ੍ਰਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਆ।
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਪੂਰਾ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗ ਬਨਾਯਾ, ਉਸੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਨੇ ਪੂਰਾ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ੍ਰ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦ੍ਰਿੜ ਕਰਾਇਆ ਹੈ।
The holy congregation of the complete is perfect and that perfect has recited the perfect mantra.
ਪੂਰੇਪੂਰਾਪਿਰਮਰਸੁਪੂਰਾਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਪੰਥੁਚਲਾਇਆ।
ਪੂਰੇ ਨੇ ਪੂਰਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦਾ ਰਸ, ਅਤੇ ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਪੰਥ ਚਲਾਇਆ।
The perfect has created the complete love for the Lord and has ordained the gurmukh way of life.
ਪੂਰੇਪੂਰਾਦਰਸਣੋਪੂਰੇਪੂਰਾਸਬਦੁਸੁਣਾਇਆ।
ਪੂਰੇ ਦਾ ਪੂਰਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ (=ਮਤ ਹੈ, ਤੇ) ਪੂਰੇ ਨੇ ਪੂਰਾ ਸਬਦ ਸੁਣਾਇਆ ਹੈ।
The sight of perfect is perfect and the same perfect has caused to hear the perfect word.
ਪੂਰੇਪੂਰਾਬੈਹਣਾਪੂਰੇਪੂਰਾਤਖਤੁਰਚਾਇਆ।
ਪੂਰੇ ਨੇ ਪੂਰਾ ਸਿੰਘਾਸਣ ਰਚਿਆ ਤੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਨੇ ਪੂਰਾ ਤਖਤ ਰਚਾਇਆ ਹੈ।
His sitting is also perfect and his throne is also perfect.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਸਚੁਖੰਡੁਹੈਭਗਤਿਵਛਲੁਹੋਇਵਸਗਤਿਆਇਆ।
ਉਸ ਪੂਰੇ ਦਾ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਸੱਚਖੰਡ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪੂਰਾ ਭਗਤ ਵਛਲ ਹੋਣ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਵੱਸ ਆਇਆ ਹੈ।
The holy congregation is the abode of truth and being kind to the devotee, He is in the possession of the devotees.
ਸਚੁਰੂਪੁਸਚੁਨਾਉਗੁਰਗਿਆਨੁਧਿਆਨੁਸਿਖਾਸਮਝਾਇਆ।
ਇਸੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੱਚਾ ਨਾਮ, ਸੱਚਾ ਗਿਆਨ, ਸੱਚਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਾਇਆ ਹੈ।
The Guru, out of his sheer love for the Sikhs, has made them understand the true nature of the Lord, the true name and the knowledge-producing meditation.
ਗੁਰਚੇਲੇਪਰਚਾਪਰਚਾਇਆ।੧।
ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਚੇਲੇ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਿਚ ਲਗਾਇਆ।
The Guru has immersed the disciple in the way of life.
ਕਰਣਕਾਰਣਸਮਰਥੁਹੈਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਦਾਕਰੈਕਰਾਇਆ।
(ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੀ) ਕਰਣ ਕਾਰਣ ਸਮਰੱਥ ਸਨ (ਪਰੰਤੂ ਜੋ) ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਕਰਾਇਆ (ਚਾਹੇ ਸੋ) ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
All competent God Himself is the efficient as well as material cause of all but He does everything according to the will of the holy congregation.
ਭਰੈਭੰਡਾਰਦਾਤਾਰੁਹੈਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਦਾਦੇਇਦਿਵਾਇਆ।
(ਆਪ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਤਾਂ) ਭੰਡਾਰੇ ਭਰੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ (ਤੇ ਆਪ ਬੜੇ) ਦਾਤਾਰ ਹਨ ਪਰ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਦਿਵਾਇਆ ਚਾਹੇ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਅਧੀਨ ਹਨ)।
The stores of that bestower are full but he gives according to the wishes of the holy congregation.
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮਗੁਰਰੂਪੁਹੋਇਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਗੁਰਸਬਦਿਸਮਾਇਆ।
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗੁਰੂ ਰੂਪ ਧਾਰਕੇ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਖੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਸਮਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦ੍ਵਾਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਅੱਗੇ ਹੋਰ ਸਾਧਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਿਖੇਧ ਦੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ)।
That transcendental Brahm, by being the Guru, enrapts the holy congregation into the Word, sabad.
ਜਗਭੋਗਜੋਗਧਿਆਨੁਕਰਿਪੂਜਾਪਰੇਨਦਰਸਨੁਪਾਇਆ।
ਯੱਗ ਭੋਗ (ਯੋਗ=) ਪ੍ਰਾਣਾਯਾਮ ਧਿਆਨ ਪੂਜਾ (ਆਦਿ ਸਾਧਨਾਂ) ਕਰ ਕੇ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ।
His glimpse can not be had by performing of yajna, offering sweets, yoga, concentration, ritualistic worship and ablutions.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਪਿਉਪੁਤੁਹੋਇਦਿਤਾਖਾਇਪੈਨ੍ਹੈਪੈਨ੍ਹਾਇਆ।
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ (ਦੇ ਸਤਿਸੰਗੀ ਲੋਕ) ਪਿਤਾ (ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੀ ਦੇ) ਪੁੱਤ੍ਰ ਹੋਕੇ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਖਾਂਦੇ ਤੇ (ਕੱਪੜੇ) ਪਹਿਨਾਏ ਹੋਏ ਪਹਿਨਦੇ ਹਨ। (ਅੱਗੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਅੰਗਦ ਜੀ ਦਾ ਵਰਣਨ ਦਸਦੇ ਹਨ):-
Fellows in the holy congregation maintain father-son relationship with the Guru,
ਘਰਬਾਰੀਹੋਇਵਰਤਿਆਘਰਬਾਰੀਸਿਖਪੈਰੀਪਾਇਆ।
ਜਦ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੀ ਦੇਸ਼ ਯਾਤ੍ਰ੍ਰਾ ਦੇ ਪਿਛੋਂ ਘਰਬਾਰੀ ਘਰ ਵਿਖੇ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਤ ਮਾਰਗ ਵਿਚ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਕਰਨ ਲੱਗੇ ਤਦ ਘਰਬਾਰੀ ਸਿੱਖ ਨੂੰ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਪੈਰੀਂ ਲਾਇਆ (ਭਾਵ ਗੁਰੂ ਅੰਗਦ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਰੂਪ ਥਾਪਿਆ)।
and whatever he gives to eat and put on, they eat and wear.
ਮਾਇਆਵਿਚਿਉਦਾਸੁਰਖਾਇਆ।੨।
ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਬੀ ਉਦਾਸੀਨ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਰਖੀ।
God remains detached in maya.
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਵੇਲੇਉਠਿਕੈਜਾਇਅੰਦਰਿਦਰੀਆਉਨ੍ਹਵੰਦੇ।
ਝਲਾਂਘੇ ਉੱਠਕੇ ਨਦੀ (ਜਾਂ ਸਰੋਵਰ ਜਾਂ ਖੂਹ ਆਦਿਕ ਦੇ ਜਲ) ਵਿਚ ਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
Getting up at the ambrosial hour of morning the Sikhs bathe in the river.
ਸਹਜਿਸਮਾਧਿਅਗਾਧਿਵਿਚਿਇਕਮਨਿਹੋਇਗੁਰਜਾਪੁਜਪੰਦੇ।
ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸ਼ਾਂਤ ਰੂਪ ਸਮਾਧੀ ਵਿਖੇ ਇਕ ਮਨ ਹੋਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ੍ਰ ਜਪਦੇ ਹਨ।
By putting their mind in the unfathomable God through deep concentration, they remember Guru, the God by reciting Japu (Ji).
ਮਥੈਟਿਕੇਲਾਲਲਾਇਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਚਲਿਜਾਇਬਹੰਦੇ।
ਸੁਰਖ਼ੋਈ ਦਾ ਟਿੱਕਾ ਮੱਥੇ ਲਾਕੇ ਸਤਿਸੰਗ ਵਿਖੇ ਜਾਕੇ ਬੈਠਦੇ ਹਨ।
Getting fully activated then they go to join the holy congregation of the saints.
ਸਬਦੁਸੁਰਤਿਲਿਵਲੀਣੁਹੋਇਸਤਿਗੁਰਬਾਣੀਗਾਇਸੁਣੰਦੇ।
ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਗ੍ਯਾਤ ਦੀ ਲਿਵ ਵਿਖੇ ਮਗਨ ਹੋਕੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਗਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
Becoming absorbed in remembering and loving the sabad they sing and hear the Guru's hymns.
ਭਾਇਭਗਤਿਭੈਵਰਤਿਮਾਨਿਗੁਰਸੇਵਾਗੁਰਪੁਰਬਕਰੰਦੇ।
ਪ੍ਰੇਮਾ ਭਗਤੀ ਅਰ ਈਸ਼ਵਰ ਦੇ ਭੈ ਵਿਖੇ ਵਰਤਦੇ ਹਨ, ਗੁਰੂ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਗੁਰਪੁਰਬ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
They love to spend their time in meditation, service and fear of God and they serve the Gum by observing his anniversaries.
ਸੰਝੈਸੋਦਰੁਗਾਵਣਾਮਨਮੇਲੀਕਰਿਮੇਲਿਮਿਲੰਦੇ।
ਸੰਧ੍ਯਾ ਵੇਲੇ ਸੋਦਰ (ਦਾ ਪਾਠ) ਗਾਉਂਦੇ ਮਨਮੇਲੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਲ ਰਖਦੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ ਕੁਸੰਗੀਆਂ ਮਨਮਤੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦੇ)।
They sing the Sodar in the evening and heartily associate with one another.
ਰਾਤੀਕੀਰਤਿਸੋਹਿਲਾਕਰਿਆਰਤੀਪਰਸਾਦੁਵੰਡੰਦੇ।
ਸੌਣ ਵੇਲੇ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਸੋਹਿਲਾ ਪੜ੍ਹਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਰ ਆਰਤੀ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ਾਦ ਵੰਡਦੇ ਹਨ।
Having recited the Sohila and made supplication at night they distribute sacred food (prasad).
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸੁਖਫਲੁਪਿਰਮਚਖੰਦੇ।੩।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਲੋਕ (ਇਸ ਸ਼ੁਭ ਕ੍ਰਿਯਾ ਤੋਂ) ਸੁਖ ਰੂਪੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦਾ ਫਲ ਚੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ।
Thus gurmukhs gladly taste the fruit of happiness.
ਇਕਕਵਾਉਪਸਾਉਕਰਿਓਅੰਕਾਰਿਅਕਾਰੁਪਸਾਰਾ।
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਨੇ ਇਕ ਵਾਰ ਥੋਂ ਸਰੂਪ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਪਸਾਰਾ ਪਸਾਰਿਆ ਹੈ।
The Oankar Lord, with one resonance created the forms.
ਪਉਣਪਾਣੀਬੈਸੰਤਰੋਧਰਤਿਅਗਾਸੁਧਰੇਨਿਰਧਾਰਾ।
ਪੌਣ, ਪਾਣੀ, ਅਗਨੀ, ਧਰਤੀ ਤੇ ਆਕਾਸ਼ ਨੂੰ ਨਿਰਾਧਾਰ (ਕੇਵਲ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਆਸਰੇ ਵਿਚ) ਰੱਖਿਆ।
Air, water, fire, sky and earth He sustained (in his order) without any support.
ਰੋਮਰੋਮਵਿਚਿਰਖਿਓਨੁਕਰਿਵਰਭੰਡਕਰੋੜਿਅਕਾਰਾ।
ਇਕ ਇਕ ਰੋਮ ਵਿਚ ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਹੀ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡ ਸਰੂਪ ਰੱਖੇ ਹਨ।
Millions of universe exist in his each trichome.
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁਪੂਰਨਬ੍ਰਹਮੁਅਗਮਅਗੋਚਰੁਅਲਖਅਪਾਰਾ।
ਆਪ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪੂਰਨ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਹੈ, ਅਗਮ (ਮਨ ਬਾਣੀ ਆਦਿ) ਇੰਦ੍ਰ੍ਰੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਵਿਖ੍ਯ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਅਲੱਖ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਪਾਰ ਤੋਂ ਰਹਿਤ ਹੈ।
He the transcendental Brahm is the complete (within and without), inaccessible, imperceptible incomprehensible and infinite.
ਪਿਰਮਪਿਆਲੈਵਸਿਹੋਇਭਗਤਿਵਛਲਹੋਇਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰਾ।
(ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ) ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਲਾ (ਪੀਤਾ ਹੈ) ਭਗਤ ਵਛਲ (ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ) ਵੱਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਨੂੰ ਰਚਨਹਾਰ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
He remains in the control of loving devotion and by becoming kind to the devotees, He creates.
ਬੀਉਬੀਜਿਅਤਿਸੂਖਮੋਤਿਦੂੰਹੋਇਵਡਬਿਰਖਵਿਥਾਰਾ।
(ਜਦ) ਅਤਿ ਸੂਖਮ ਬੀਉ ਨੂੰ (ਲੋਕ) ਬੀਜਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਸ ਥੋਂ ਕਈ ਬੋਹੜ ਦੇ ਬ੍ਰਿੱਛਾਂ ਦਾ ਵਿਸਥਾਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
He is the subtle seed that takes form of the large tree of creation.
ਫਲਵਿਚਿਬੀਉਸਮਾਇਕੈਇਕਦੂੰਬੀਅਹੁਲਖਹਜਾਰਾ।
ਫਲ ਵਿਖੇ ਬੀਉ ਸਮਾਕੇ ਇਕ ਬੀਓਂ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਹਜ਼ਾਰਾਂ (ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ)। (ਭਾਵ, ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਆਦਿ ਇਕ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਹੀ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ। ਯਥਾ:-”ਥਿਤਿ ਵਾਰੁ ਨ ਜੋਗੀ ਜਾਣੈ ਰੁਤਿ ਮਾਹੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ॥ ਜਾ ਕਰਤਾ ਸਿਰਠੀ ਕਉ ਸਾਜੇ ਆਪੇ ਜਾਣੈ ਸੋਈ”॥ ਇਸ ਗੱਲ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ ਸੋ ਅੱਗੇ ਦੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ)।
The fruits contain seeds and then from one seed millions of fruits are created.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸੁਖਫਲਪਿਰਮਰਸੁਗੁਰਸਿਖਾਂਸਤਿਗੁਰੂਪਿਆਰਾ।
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਗੁਰ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਪਿਆਰਾ (ਜਾਤਾ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਦੇ) ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਰਸ ਦਾ ਸੁਖ ਫਲ ਪਾਇਆ ਹੈ।
The sweet fruit of Gurmukhs is the love of Lord and the Sikhs of Guru love the true Guru.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਸਚੁਖੰਡਵਿਚਿਸਤਿਗੁਰਪੁਰਖੁਵਸੈਨਿਰੰਕਾਰਾ।
(੯) (ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ) ਸਤਿਸੰਗ ਰੂਪੀ ਸਚਖੰਡ ਵਿਚ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪੁਰਖ ਵਸਦੇ ਹਨ।
In the holy congregation, the abode of truth, the supreme formless Lord resides.
ਭਾਇਭਗਤਿਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਨਿਸਤਾਰਾ।੪।
(੧੦) ਪ੍ਰੇਮਾ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
The Gurmukhs get liberated through loving devotion.
ਪਉਣੁਗੁਰੂਗੁਰਸਬਦੁਹੈਵਾਹਗੁਰੂਗੁਰਸਬਦੁਸੁਣਾਇਆ।
(ਜੇਹੜਾ) 'ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਸੁਣਾਇਆ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਗੁਰ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦਾ ਪੌਣ ਹੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਪੌਣ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਦਵੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ)।
The Guru's word is the air, the Guru and wondrous lord has recited Word the Guru.
ਪਾਣੀਪਿਤਾਪਵਿਤ੍ਰੁਕਰਿਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਪੰਥਿਨਿਵਾਣਿਚਲਾਇਆ।
(ਜਿਕੁਰ) ਪਾਣੀ (ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ੍ਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਅਤੇ ਆਪ) ਨਿਵਾਣ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤਿਹਾ ਹੀ) ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਪੰਥ (ਤੋਰਿਆ ਹੈ, ਇਸੇ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਕਿ) ਪਾਣੀ (ਸਭ ਦਾ) ਪਿਤਾ ਹੈ।
The father of man is water which by flowing downwards teaches humility.
ਧਰਤੀਮਾਤਮਹਤੁਕਰਿਓਤਿਪੋਤਿਸੰਜੋਗੁਬਣਾਇਆ।
ਧਰਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਮਾਤਾ ਦਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਤਾਣੇ ਪੇਟੇ ਦਾ ਸੰਜੋਗ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ ਜਿੱਕੁਰ ਧਰਤੀ ਵਿਖੇ ਸਹਿਨਸ਼ੀਲਤਾ ਹੈ ਤਿੱਕੁਰ ਹੀ ਮਾਤਾ ਵਿਖੇ ਹੈ, ਇਸੇ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਮਾਤਾ ਲਿਖੀ ਹੈ)।
The earth being tolerant like mother is the mother and is the further base of all the creatures.
ਦਾਈਦਾਇਆਰਾਤਿਦਿਹੁਬਾਲਸੁਭਾਇਜਗਤ੍ਰੁਖਿਲਾਇਆ।
ਰਾਤ ਦਾਈ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਦਿਨ ਦਾਇਆ ਹੈ, ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ (ਜਿਸਦਾ) ਸੁਭਾਉ ਬਾਲਕਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਖਿਲਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ। (ਰਾਤ ਸੁਆਂਦੀ ਤੇ ਦਿਨ ਸੰਸਾਰਕ ਖੇਡਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਚਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਸੇ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਰਾਤ ਦਿਨ ਦਾਈ ਦਾਇਆ ਹਨ)।
The day and night are the nurses who keep the people of child-wisdom busy in the plays of the world.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਜਨਮੁਸਕਾਰਥਾਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਵਸਿਆਪੁਗਵਾਇਆ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਸਫਲ ਹੈ (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ) ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ) ਦੇਹਾਭਿਮਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
The life of Gurmukh is meaningful because he in the holy congregation has lost his egotism.
ਜੰਮਣਮਰਣਹੁਬਾਹਰੇਜੀਵਨਮੁਕਤਿਜੁਗਤਿਵਰਤਾਇਆ।
ਤਦੇ ਹੀ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਰਹਿਤ ਹੋਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਮੁਕਤ ਦੀ ਜੁਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਵਰਤਦੇ ਹਨ।
He becoming liberated in life behaves in the 'world with the skill to come out of the cycle of transrnigration.
ਗੁਰਮਤਿਮਾਤਾਮਤਿਹੈਪਿਤਾਸੰਤੋਖਮੋਖਪਦੁਪਾਇਆ।
(ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੀ) ਮਾਤਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਿੱਖ੍ਯਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਪਿਤਾ (ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ) ਸੰਤੋਖ ਹੈ (ਜਿਸ ਤੋਂ) ਮੋਖ ਪਦਵੀ ਪਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
The mother of the gurmukhs is the wisdom of the Guru and father, the contentment through whom they attain deliverance.
ਧੀਰਜੁਧਰਮੁਭਿਰਾਵਦੁਇਜਪੁਤਪੁਜਤੁਸਤੁਪੁਤਜਣਾਇਆ।
ਧੀਰਜ ਅਤੇ ਧਰਮ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਭ੍ਰ੍ਰਾਤਾ ਹਨ, ਜਪ ਤਪ ਜਤ ਸਤ (ਆਦੀ ਗੁਣ) ਪੁੱਤ੍ਰ੍ਰ ਦੱਸੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
Forbearance and the sense of duty are their brothers, and meditation, austetities, continence the sons.
ਗੁਰਚੇਲਾਚੇਲਾਗੁਰੂਪੁਰਖਹੁਪੁਰਖਚਲਤੁਵਰਤਾਇਆ।
(੯) ਗੁਰੂ ਚੇਲਾ ਤੇ ਚੇਲਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਪੂਰਣ ਪੁਰਖ ਦਾ ਚਲਿੱਤ੍ਰ੍ਰ ਵਰਤਾਇਆ।
The Guru and the disciple are diffused into one another in equanirnity and they both are the extension of the perfect supreme Lord.

(੧੦) ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਅਲਖ ਸੁਖ ਫਲ ਲਖਕੇ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਲਖਾਇਆ ਹੈ।
Raving realized the supreme pleasure they have made others also realize the same.
ਪਰਘਰਜਾਇਪਰਾਹੁਣਾਆਸਾਵਿਚਿਨਿਰਾਸੁਵਲਾਏ।
ਓਪਰੇ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਜਾਕੇ ਪਰਾਹੁਣਾ (ਜਿੱਕੁਰ) ਆਸਾ ਵਿਚ ਨਿਰਾਸ ਹੋਕੇ (ਸਮਾਂ) ਬਿਤੀਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
The guest in the house of other person remains unconcerned among many expectations.
ਪਾਣੀਅੰਦਰਿਕਵਲਜਿਉਸੂਰਜਧਿਆਨੁਅਲਿਪਤੁਰਹਾਏ।
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਕਵਲ ਰਹਿਕੇ ਸੂਰਜ ਵੱਲ ਧਿਆਨ ਰਖਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਜਲ ਥੋਂ) ਅਲੇਪ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Lotus too in the water concentrates upon sun and remains- uninfluenced by water.
ਸਬਦਸੁਰਤਿਸਤਿਸੰਗਿਮਿਲਿਗੁਰਚੇਲੇਦੀਸੰਧਿਮਿਲਾਏ।
(ਤਿੱਕੁਰ) ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ 'ਗੁਰੂ' 'ਚੇਲੇ' ਦੀ (ਸੰਧਿ=) ਮਿਲੌਨੀ ਸਬਦ ਸੁਰਤ ਨਾਲ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ (ਅਰਥਾਤ ਕਵਲ ਸੂਰਜ ਵਾਂਙ)।
Likewise in the holy congregation the Guru and disciple meet through word (sabad) and meditative faculty(surati).
ਚਾਰਿਵਰਨਗੁਰਸਿਖਹੋਇਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਸਚਖੰਡਵਸਾਏ।
ਚਾਰ ਵਰਣ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਹੋਕੇ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਸਚਖੰਡ ਵਿਖੇ ਵਸਦੇ ਹਨ।
People of the four varnas, by becoming followers of the Guru, reside in the abode of truth through the holy congregation.
ਆਪੁਗਵਾਇਤੰਬੋਲਰਸੁਖਾਇਚਬਾਇਸੁਰੰਗਚੜ੍ਹਾਏ।
(ਕੱਥ, ਸੁਪਾਰੀ, ਚੂਨਾ, ਪਾਨ ਦੇ ਤੰਬੋਲ=) ਬੀੜੇ ਨੂੰ (ਜਿਵੇਂ) ਜਦ (ਲੋਕ) ਚੱਬਕੇ ਖਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਤਾਂ ਲਾਲ) ਰੰਗ ਚੜ੍ਹਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਤਦੋਂ ਚਾਰੇ) ਆਪਾ ਭਾਵ ਨੂੰ ਗਵਾ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਕੇਵਲ ਲਾਲ ਰੰਗ ਹੀ ਦਿਸਦਾ ਹੈ)।
Like the one coloured sap of betel-leaf they shed away their selfhood, and all are coloured in their one fast colour.
ਛਿਅਦਰਸਨਤਰਸਨਖੜੇਬਾਰਹਪੰਥਿਗਿਰੰਥਸੁਣਾਏ।
ਛੇ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ (ਅਤੇ ਜੋਗੀਆਂ ਦੇ) ਬਾਰਾਂ ਪੰਥ (ਆਪੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਤਾਂ ਦੇ) ਗ੍ਰੰਥਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਣਾ ਕੇ ਤਰਸਦੇ ਖੜੇ ਹਨ (ਪਰੰਤੂ ਇਸ ਪਦਵੀ ਨੂੰ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਣ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੇ)।
All the six philosophies and the twelve sects of yogis covet by standing away (but do not get that status because of their pride).
ਛਿਅਰੁਤਿਬਾਰਹਮਾਸਕਰਿਇਕੁਇਕੁਸੂਰਜੁਚੰਦੁਦਿਖਾਏ।
ਛੀ ਰੁੱਤਾਂ (ਅਰਥਾਤ ਬਸੰਤ, ਗ੍ਰੀਖਮ, ਸਰਦ, ਹੇਮੰਤ, ਸਿਸਰ) ਦੇ ਬਾਰਾਂ ਮਹੀਨਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਇਕ ਸੂਰਜ ਤੇ ਇਕ ਚੰਦ ਦੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ, ਇਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਕਿ ਸੂਰਜ ਇਕ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਰੁੱਤਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਭੇਦ ਹੈ)।
Six seasons, twelve months are shown to have one sun and one moon,
ਬਾਰਹਸੋਲਹਮੇਲਿਕੈਸਸੀਅਰਅੰਦਰਿਸੂਰਸਮਾਏ।
(ਪਰੰਤੂ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਨੇ) ਬਾਰਾਂ ਸੂਰਜ ਦੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਸੋਲਾਂ (ਕਲਾ) ਚੰਦ੍ਰ੍ਰਮਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਮੇਲ ਕੇ ਚੰਦ੍ਰ੍ਰਮਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸੂਰਜ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ ਸਤੋ ਵਿਚ ਤਮੋ ਦਾ ਅਭਾਵ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ। ਅੱਗੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਗੁਣਾਤੀਤ ਦੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ:)
But the gurmukhs have fused the sun and the moon into each other, i.e. they have demolished the boundries of the sattva and the rajas gunas.
ਸਿਵਸਕਤੀਨੋਲੰਘਿਕੈਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਇਕੁਮਨੁਇਕੁਧਿਆਏ।
(੯) (ਪਰ) ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਸਤੋਗੁਣ ਤ ਤਮੋਗੁਣ ਥੋਂ ਲੰਘਕੇ ਇਕ ਮਨ ਹੋਕੇ ਇਕ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਹੀ) ਧਿਆਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
Having gone beyond the rnaya of Siva-sakti they medicate upon the one supreme.
ਪੈਰੀਪੈਜਗੁਪੈਰੀਪਾਏ।੬।
(੧੦) (ਆਪ ਸਭ ਦੀ ਪੈਰੀ) ਪਏ (ਕਰਦੇ) ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਜਗਤ (ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ) ਪੈਰੀਂ ਡਿਗਦਾ ਹੈ।
Their humility makes the world fall at their feet.
ਗੁਰਉਪਦੇਸਅਦੇਸੁਕਰਿਪੈਰੀਪੈਰਹਰਾਸਿਕਰੰਦੇ।
(ਗੁਰ ਸਿੱਖ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿਚ ਘਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਪੈਰੀਂ ਪੈਣ ਦੀ ਰਹੁਰੀਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
Considering the sermon of the Guru as the order they observe the code being bumble.
ਚਰਣਸਰਣਿਮਸਤਕੁਧਰਨਿਚਰਨਰੇਣੁਮੁਖਿਤਿਲਕਸੁਹੰਦੇ।
ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਮੱਥੇ ਪੁਰ ਰਖਦੇ ਤੇ ਚਰਨ ਧੂੜ ਦਾ ਮੁਖ ਪੁਰ ਤਿਲਕ ਸੁਭਾਇਮਾਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
They surrender at the feet of Guru and apply he dust of his-feet to their heads.
ਭਰਮਕਰਮਦਾਲੇਖੁਮੇਟਿਲੇਖੁਅਲੇਖਵਿਸੇਖਬਣੰਦੇ।
ਕਰਮਾਂ ਤੇ ਭਰਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਲੇਖ ਮੇਟ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ, ਲੇਖ ਤੋਂ ਅਲੇਖ (ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ) ਨਾਲ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਖ (ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ) ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
By effacing the delusive writings of destiny, they create special love for imperceptible God.
ਜਗਮਗਜੋਤਿਉਦੋਤੁਕਰਿਸੂਰਜਚੰਦਨਲਖਪੁਜੰਦੇ।
ਆਪਣੀ ਜੋਤ ਨੂੰ ਜਗਮਗ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਦੇ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਲੱਖ ਸੂਰਜ ਚੰਦ ਭੀ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਨਹੀਂ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਸਕਦੇ।
Myriads of suns and moons cannot reach their effulgence.
ਹਉਮੈਗਰਬੁਨਿਵਾਰਿਕੈਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਸਚਮੇਲਿਮਿਲੰਦੇ।
ਹਉਮੈਂ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਾਕੇ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਦੇ ਸਚੇ ਮੇਲ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਦੇ ਹਨ।
Deleting ego from themselves they take dip into the sacred tank of the holy congregation.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਪੂਰਨਬ੍ਰਹਮੁਚਰਣਕਵਲਪੂਜਾਪਰਚੰਦੇ।
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਪੂਰਨ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ) ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਪੂਜਾ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਚਦੇ ਹਨ।
Holy congregation is the abode of the perfect Brahm and they (gurmukhs) keep their mind imbued with the lotus feet (of Lord).
ਸੁਖਸੰਪਟਿਹੋਇਭਵਰਵਸੰਦੇ।੭।
ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਸੰਪਟ (ਡੱਬਾ) ਬਣਾ ਕੇ (ਆਪ) ਭਵਰ ਰੂਪ ਹੋ ਕੇ (ਪਰਚਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਗੁਰੂ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਧਿਆਨ ਵਿਖੇ) ਵੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ।
They become the black bee and reside in the pleasure-petals (of the holy Lord).
ਗੁਰਦਰਸਨੁਪਰਸਣੁਸਫਲੁਛਿਅਦਰਸਨੁਇਕਦਰਸਨੁਜਾਣੈ।
ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਅਤੇ ਪਰਸਨ ਸਫਲ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਛੀ ਮਤਾਂ ਦੀ (ਥਾਂ ਮੁਢ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ=ਮੱਤ) ਇਕ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
Blessed is the Glimpse and the company of the guru because there only one visualizes God alone in all the six philosophies.
ਦਿਬਦਿਸਟਿਪਰਗਾਸੁਕਰਿਲੋਕਵੇਦਗੁਰਗਿਆਨੁਪਛਾਣੈ।
ਗਿਆਨ ਦੀ ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਭੀ ਅਰ ਪੁਸਤਕਾਂ (ਵਿਖੇ ਭੀ ਇਕੋ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਗ੍ਯਾਨ ਪਛਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ (ਬਾਕੀ ਦਾ ਸਭ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਕਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ) (ਅ) ਲੋਕ ਵੇਦ (ਲੋਕੋਕਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਟਾਕੇ) ਦਿੱਬ ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟਿ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਰ ਗੁਰੂ (ਮਤ ਦੇ ਦੱਸੇ ਹੋਏ) ਗਿਆਨ ਦੀ ਪਛਾਣ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Getting enlightened one identifies the teachings of Guru even in secular affairs
ਏਕਾਨਾਰੀਜਤੀਹੋਇਪਰਨਾਰੀਧੀਭੈਣਵਖਾਣੈ।
ਇਕ ਨਾਰੀ ਦਾ ਜਤੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰਾਈ ਇਸਤ੍ਰ੍ਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਧੀ ਤੇ ਭੈਣ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ।
Having one women as wife he (the Sikh) is a celebate and considers any other's wife as his daughter or a sister.
ਪਰਧਨੁਸੂਅਰਗਾਇਜਿਉਮਕਰੂਹਹਿੰਦੂਮੁਸਲਮਾਣੈ।
ਪਰਾਇਆ ਧਨ ਹਿੰਦੂ ਨੂੰ ਗਉੂ ਤੇ ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਸੂਰ ਵਾਂਗੂੰ ਅਖਾਜ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਯਥਾ ਗੁਰਵਾਕ-”ਹਕ ਪਰਾਇਆ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਉਸੁ ਸੂਅਰ ਉਸੁ ਗਾਇ” Ḥਵਾਰ ਮਾਝ ਮ: ੫Ḧ। “ਵਸਤੁ ਪਰਾਈ ਅਪੁਨੀ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਨੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਘਾਲੈ” Ḥਵਾਰ ਮਾਝ ਮ: ੧Ḧ॥ “ਖੁਸਿ ਖੁਸਿ ਲੈਦਾ ਵਸਤੁ ਪਰਾਈ॥ ਵੇਖੈ ਸੁਣੈ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲਿ ਖੁਦਾਈ॥ “ Ḥਮਾਰੂ ਮ: ੫
To covet another man's property is forbidden ( to a Sikh) as the swine is to the Muslim and the cow to a Hindu.
ਘਰਬਾਰੀਗੁਰਸਿਖੁਹੋਇਸਿਖਾਸੂਤ੍ਰਮਲਮੂਤ੍ਰਵਿਡਾਣੈ।
ਜੋ (ਘਰਬਾਰੀ=) ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਥੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਓਹ (ਸਿਖਾ=) ਬੋਦੀ (ਸਤ=) ਜਨੇਊੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਲ ਮੂਤ੍ਰ੍ਰ ਦੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਮਝਕੇ ਤਿਆਗਦੇ ਹਨ। (ਭਾਵ ਮਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਵਿਡਾਣੇ=ਅਸੰਗ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਗ੍ਯਾਨ ਥੋਂ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ)।
The sikh being a householder abnegates tonsure,the sacred thread ( Janeau), etc and forsakes them like abdominable faeces.
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁਪੂਰਨਬ੍ਰਹਮੁਗਿਆਨੁਧਿਆਨੁਗੁਰਸਿਖਸਿਞਾਣੈ।
ਸਿੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਗਿਆਨ ਧਿਆਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਪੂਰਣ ਦੇਖਦੇ ਹਨ।
The Sikh of the Guru accepts transcendental Lord as the sole found af higher knowledge and the meditation.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਮਿਲਿਪਤਿਪਰਵਾਣੈ।੮।
(ਅਜਿਹੇ ਗ੍ਯਾਨੀਆਂ ਦੀ) ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਖੇ (ਕੋਈ ਪਾਪੀ ਭੀ ਆ ਜਾਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਵੁਹ ਭੀ) ਮਿਲਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਮਾਣੀਕ ਪਤ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
In the congregation of such people any body could become authentic as well as respectable.
ਗਾਈਬਾਹਲੇਰੰਗਜਿਉਖੜੁਚਰਿਦੁਧੁਦੇਨਿਇਕਰੰਗੀ।
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਈ ਰੰਗਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ (ਕਾਲੀਆਂ, ਪੀਲੀਆਂ, ਧਉਲੀਆਂ ਆਦਿ) ਗਊੂਆਂ ਹੁੰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਦੱਭ ਜਾਂ ਘਾਹ ਖਾਕੇ ਦੁੱਧ ਇਕੋ ਰੰਗ ਦਾ (ਚਿੱਟਾ) ਹੀ ਦਿੰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ।
Though the cows are of different hues yet their milk is of the same (white) colour.
ਬਾਹਲੇਬਿਰਖਵਣਾਸਪਤਿਅਗਨੀਅੰਦਰਿਹੈਬਹੁਰੰਗੀ।
ਬਨਾਸਪਤੀ ਵਿਖੇ ਬਾਹਲੇ (ਭਾਂਤਾਂ ਦੇ) ਬਿਰਖ ਹਨ, (ਪਰ ਕਿਆ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰਲੀ ਅੱਗ ਵਿਚ ਭੀ ਬਹੁਤੇ ਰੰਗ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ? (ਭਾਵ ਨਹੀਂ)।
The vegetation has variety of trees but is the fire therein of different colours?
ਰਤਨਾਵੇਖੈਸਭੁਕੋਰਤਨਪਾਰਖੂਵਿਰਲਾਸੰਗੀ।
ਰਤਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਦੇਖਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਤਾਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਹਨ, ਪਰੰਤੂ ਪ੍ਰੀਖ੍ਯਕ ਕੋਈ ਇਕ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਹੈ।
Many behold the jewels but the jeweller is a rare person.
ਹੀਰੇਹੀਰਾਬੇਧਿਆਰਤਨਮਾਲਸਤਿਸੰਗਤਿਚੰਗੀ।
(ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਨ) ਹੀਰਾ (ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦ ਦੇ) ਹੀਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਵੇਧਿਆ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਰੂਪੀ ਚੰਗੀ ਰਤਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਾਲਾ ਵਿਖੇ (ਪ੍ਰੋਤੇ ਗਏ ਹਨ)।
As the diamond interlaced with other diamonds goes in the company of jewels, likewise the mind-diamond intertwined with the diamond like Guru Word goes in the string of the holy congregation.
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁਨਦਰਿਨਿਹਾਲਿਓਨੁਹੋਇਨਿਹਾਲੁਨਹੋਰਸੁਮੰਗੀ।
(ਉਹ ਗ੍ਯਾਨਵਾਨ ਲੋਕ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ) ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਦਰ ਨਾਲ ਨਿਹਾਲ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ, ਨਿਹਾਲ ਹੋਕੇ ਓਹ ਹੋਰ (ਕੁਝ ਪਦਾਰਥ) ਨਹੀਂ ਚਾਹੁੰਦੇ।
Knowledgeable people get blessed with the ambrosial sight of the Guru and then have no desire whatsoever.
ਦਿਬਦੇਹਦਿਬਦਿਸਟਿਹੋਇਪੂਰਨਬ੍ਰਹਮਜੋਤਿਅੰਗਅੰਗੀ।
(ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ) ਦੇਹ ਅਰ ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦਿੱਬ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ, (ਭਾਵ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਰਸ਼ਣ ਥੋਂ ਹੀ ਲੋਕ ਨਿਹਾਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ) ਸਾਰੇ ਅੰਗ ਅੰਗ ਵਿਖੇ ਇਕ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਹੀ ਪੂਰਣ ਦੇਖਦੇ ਹਨ।
Their body and vision turns divine and their every limb reflects the divine light of the perfect Brahm.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਸਤਿਗੁਰਸਹਲੰਗੀ।੯।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਹੀ (ਸੱਚਾ) ਸਨਬੰਧੀ ਹੈ।
Their relations with the true Guru are established through the holy congregation.
ਸਬਦਸੁਰਤਿਲਿਵਸਾਧਸੰਗਿਪੰਚਸਬਦਇਕਸਬਦਮਿਲਾਏ।
ਸਬਦ ਦੀ ਸੁਰਤ ਵਿਖੇ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਦੀ ਲਿਵ (ਲੱਗੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ) ਪੰਜ ਸ਼ਬਦਾਂ (ਅਰਥਾਤ ਤੱਤ, ਬਿੱਤ, ਘਨ, ਨਾਦ, ਸੁਖਰ ਦੀ ਥਾਂ) ਇਕੋ ਸਬਦ (ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਅਜਪਾ ਜਾਪ ਹੀ) ਮੇਲਦੇ ਹਨ।
The Gurmukh while immersing his meditational faculty in the Word listens to the Word alone even through the five types of sounds (created through many instruments).
ਰਾਗਨਾਦਲਖਸਬਦਲਖਿਭਾਖਿਆਭਾਉਸੁਭਾਉਅਲਾਏ।
(ਹੋਰ) ਰਾਗਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਨਾਦਾਂ ਦੇ (ਸੰਬਾਦ=) ਝਗੜੇ ਸਮਝਕੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਭਾਖਿਆ (ਗ੍ਯਾਨ ਚਰਚਾ) ਕਰਦੇ ਅਰ ਅਲਾਪ (ਰਾਗ ਦਾ ਬੀ) ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ ਪ੍ਰੇਮਾ ਭਗਤੀ ਮੁੱਖ ਸਮਝਦੇ ਹਨ)।
Considering the ragas and nadas only as the medium, the Gurmukh discusses and recites with love.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਬ੍ਰਹਮਧਿਆਨੁਧੁਨਿਜਾਣੈਜੰਤ੍ਰੀਜੰਤ੍ਰਵਜਾਏ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਲੋਕ ਹੀ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਦੇ ਧ੍ਯਾਨ ਦੀ ਧੁਨਿ ਤਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ ਜਿਕੁਰ ਜਿੰਤ੍ਰ੍ਰੀ ਵਾਜੇ ਦੀ ਧੁਨਿ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
Only the Gurmukhs understand the melody of the knowledge of the supreme reality.
ਅਕਥਕਥਾਵੀਚਾਰਿਕੈਉਸਤਤਿਨਿੰਦਾਵਰਜਿਰਹਾਏ।
ਉਹੋ ਹੀ ਉਸਤਤ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਨੂੰ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਅਕਥ ਕਥਾ ਦੇ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
The Sikhs ponder on the words of the Ineffable, and abstain from praise and blame.
ਗੁਰਉਪਦੇਸੁਅਵੇਸੁਕਰਿਮਿਠਾਬੋਲਣੁਮਨਪਰਚਾਏ।
ਗੁਰ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਨੂੰ ਧਾਰਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਓਹ ਮਿੱਠਾ ਬੋਲਕੇ (ਹਰੇਕ ਦਾ) ਮਨ ਪਰਚਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
Allowing the Guru's instruction to enter their hearts they speak politely and thus comfort one another.
ਜਾਇਮਿਲਨਿਗੁੜਕੀੜਿਆਂਰਖੈਰਖਣਹਾਰੁਲੁਕਾਏ।
(ਇਸੇ ਕਾਰਣ ਗੁੜ ਦੀਆਂ ਕੀੜੀਆਂ ਵਾਂਙੂ ਕੋਈ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਕਿਧਰੇ ਲੁਕਾਵੇ ਲੋਕ ਲੱਭ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
The Sikhs' virtues cannot be concealed. As a man may hide mollasses, but ants will discover it.
ਗੰਨਾਹੋਇਕੋਲੂਪੀੜਾਏ।੧੦।
(ਉਹ ਪਰੋਪਕਾਰ ਵਿਚ) ਗੰਨੇ ਵਾਂਙ (ਨਿੱਜ ਨੂੰ) ਕੋਹਲੂ ਵਿਚ ਪੀੜ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
As the sugarcane gives juice when pressed in a mill, so must a Sikh suffer while conferring favours on others.
ਚਰਣਕਮਲਮਕਰੰਦੁਰਸਿਹੋਇਭਵਰੁਲੈਵਾਸੁਲੁਭਾਵੈ।
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ) ਚਰਣਾਰਬਿੰਦ ਦੇ ਮਕਰੰਦ ਦੇ ਰਸ ਪੁਰ ਭਵਰ ਹੋਕੇ ਵਾਸ਼ਨਾ ਵਿਖੇ ਲੁਭਾਇਮਾਨ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
Like the black bee they surrender at the lotus feet of Guru and enjoy the sap and remain happy.
ਇੜਾਪਿੰਗੁਲਾਸੁਖਮਨਾਲੰਘਿਤ੍ਰਿਬੇਣੀਨਿਜਘਰਿਆਵੈ।
ਇੜਾ ਆਦ ਤਿੰਨ ਨਾੜੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਬੇਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਲੰਘ ਕੇ (ਤਿਆਗਕੇ) ਅਪਣੇ ਸਰੂਪ ਵਿਖੇ ਆਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
They go beyond the triveni of ira, pingala and susumna and stablize in their own self.
ਸਾਹਿਸਾਹਿਮਨੁਪਵਣਲਿਵਸੋਹੰਹੰਸਾਜਪੈਜਪਾਵੈ।
ਸਵਾਸ ਸਵਾਸ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਤਾਰ ਲਾ ਕੇ ਸੋਹੰ ਅਤੇ ਹੰਸਾ ਦਾ ਜਾਪ ਜਪਦੇ ਹਨ। (ਜਨਮ ਸਾਖੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮਰਦਾਨਾ ਇਸ ਜਾਪ ਨਾਲ ਡੁੱਬ ਚੱਲਿਆ ਸੀ, ਕੇਵਲ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੀ ਨੂੰ ਏਹ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ੍ਰ ਸੌਜਿਆ ਸੀ। ਇਸ ਲਈ ਜਾਪ ਵੇਲੇ ਆਪੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਅਧਿਕਾਰ ਦੀ ਪਰਖ ਜ਼ਰੂਰੀ ਹੈ, ਸੋਹੰ ਗੁਰਮਤ ਵਿਚ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਪਦ ਵਾਂਙ 'ਗੁਰ
They through the flame of breath, mind and the life force, recite and make others recite the soham and hans recitations (jap).
ਅਚਰਜਰੂਪਅਨੂਪਲਿਵਗੰਧਸੁਗੰਧਿਅਵੇਸੁਮਚਾਵੈ।
ਲਿਵ ਦਾ ਅਨੂਪਮ ਰੂਪ ਅਚਰਜ ਹੈ ਖੁਸ਼ਬੋ ਦੇ ਸਮਾਉਣ ਵਾਂਙੂ ਸੁਗੰਧ ਮਚਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
The form of surati is wonderfully fragrant and enrapturing.

ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਮੁੰਦ੍ਰ੍ਰ ਚਰਣ ਕਮਲ ਰੂਪੀ ਸੁਖ ਸੰਪਟ ਵਿਖੇ ਸਹਜ ਨਾਲ ਸਮਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
The gurmukhs calmly absorb in the pleasure-ocean of the Guru feet.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸੁਖਫਲਪਿਰਮਰਸੁਦੇਹਬਿਦੇਹਪਰਮਪਦੁਪਾਵੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖ (ਜਦ) ਪਿਰਮ ਰਸ ਦੇ ਸੁਖ ਫਲ ਨੂੰ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਦੇਹ ਥੋਂ ਬਿਦੇਹ ਮੁਕਤ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਤਦ ਪਰਮ ਪਦ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
When they in the form of pleasure-fruit obtain the supreme joy, they go beyond the bondages of body and bodylessness and attain the highest station.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਮਿਲਿਅਲਖੁਲਖਾਵੈ।੧੧।
(ਅਜਿਹੇ) ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਨ ਵਿਖੇ ਅਲਖ ਦੀ ਲੱਖਤਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
Such gurmukhs have the glimpse of that invisible Lord in the holy congregation.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਹਥਿਸਕਥਹਨਿਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਗੁਰਕਾਰਕਮਾਵੈ।
(ਜਿਹੜੇ) ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ (ਕਾਰ=) ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
Worthy are the hands of the Sikh who in the holy congregation do the Guru's work.
ਪਾਣੀਪਖਾਪੀਹਣਾਪੈਰਧੋਇਚਰਣਾਮਤੁਪਾਵੈ।
ਪੱਖਾ ਝੱਲਦੇ, (ਲੰਗਰ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਚੱਕੀ) ਪੀਂਹਦੇ, ਪਾਣੀ ਢੋਂਦੇ, ਪੈਰ ਧੋ ਕੇ ਚਰਣਾਂਮ੍ਰਿਤ (ਮੁਖ ਵਿਚ) ਪਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
Who draw water, fan the sangat, grind the flour, wash the feet of Guru and drink the water therefrom;
ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀਲਿਖਿਪੋਥੀਆਤਾਲਮ੍ਰਿਦੰਗਰਬਾਬਵਜਾਵੈ।
ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਪੋਥੀਆਂ ਲਿਖਕੇ (ਵੰਡਦੇ), ਕੈਂਸੀਆਂ ਮ੍ਰਿਦੰਗ ਆਦ ਵਾਜੇ ਵਜਾਉਂਦੇ;
Who copy the Guru's hymns and play the cymbals, the mirdang, a small drum, and the rebeck in the company of holy.
ਨਮਸਕਾਰਡੰਡਉਤਕਰਿਗੁਰਭਾਈਗਲਿਮਿਲਿਗਲਿਲਾਵੈ।
ਮੱਥਾ ਟੇਕਕੇ ਗੁਰ ਭਾਈਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਗਲਵੱਕੜੀ ਪਾਉਂਦੇ;
Worthy are the hands who bow, help in prostrating and embrace a brother Sikh;
ਕਿਰਤਿਵਿਰਤਿਕਰਿਧਰਮਦੀਹਥਹੁਦੇਕੈਭਲਾਮਨਾਵੈ।
ਧਰਮ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਤ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਪਜੀਵਕਾ ਤੋਰਦੇ, ਹੱਥੋਂ (ਦਾਨ) ਦੇ ਕੇ ਭਲਾ ਸਮਝਦੇ ਹਨ।
Who eam livelihood honestly and munificently confer favour on others.
ਪਾਰਸੁਪਰਸਿਅਪਰਸਿਹੋਇਪਰਤਨਪਰਧਨਹਥੁਨਲਾਵੈ।
(ਚਰਣ ਰੂਪ) ਪਾਰਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਸਕੇ ਆਪ ਅਪਰਸ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਪਰਾਈ ਇਸਤ੍ਰ੍ਰੀ ਜਾਂ ਪਰਾਏ ਧਨ ਨੂੰ ਹੱਥ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਾਉਂਦੇ।
Worthy of praise are the hands of such a Sikh who by coming in touch with Guru becomes indifferent to worldly materials and lays not his eyes on another's wife or property;
ਗੁਰਸਿਖਗੁਰਸਿਖਪੂਜਕੈਭਾਇਭਗਤਿਭੈਭਾਣਾਭਾਵੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਣ ਪੂਜ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮਾ ਭਗਤੀ, ਭੈ ਅਤੇ ਭਾਣੇ ਨੂੰ ਮਿੱਠਾ ਮੰਨਦੇ ਹਨ।
Who loves another Sikh and embraces the love, devotion, and fear of God;
ਆਪੁਗਵਾਇਨਆਪੁਗਣਾਵੈ।੧੨।
ਆਪਾ ਭਾਉ ਨੂੰ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਣਾਉਂਦੇ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਹੱਥ ਸਫਲ ਹਨ।☬ਭਾਵ-ਐਉਂ ਬੀ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ:- ਹੱਥ ਤਾਂ ਸਫਲ ਹਨ ਜਾਂ ਐਹ ਐਹ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਨ, ਹੋਰ ਅੱਗੇ ਕਾਰਾਂ ਗਿਣੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਪ੍ਰਮਾਣ-”ਹਥ ਤ ਪਰ ਸਕਯਥ ਹਥ ਲਗਹਿ ਗੁਰ ਅਮਰ ਪਯ”।
He effaces his ego and does not assert himself.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਪੈਰਸਕਾਰਥੇਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਮਾਰਗਿਚਾਲਚਲੰਦੇ।
(ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ) ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੈਰ ਸਫਲ ਹਨ (ਜਿਹੜੇ) ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਾਰਗ (ਆਪ) ਚਲਦੇ (ਅਰ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਚਲਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
Blessed are the feet of the Sikhs who walk in Guru's way;
ਗੁਰੂਦੁਆਰੈਜਾਨਿਚਲਿਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਚਲਿਜਾਇਬਹੰਦੇ।
ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਵਿਖੇ ਜਾ ਕੇ (ਸ਼ਬਦ ਸੁਨਣ ਲਈ) ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਖੇ ਬੈਠਦੇ ਹਨ।
Who go to the Gurudwara and sit their in the holy congregation;
ਧਾਵਨਪਰਉਪਕਾਰਨੋਗੁਰਸਿਖਾਨੋਖੋਜਿਲਹੰਦੇ।
ਪਰੋਪਕਾਰ ਦੇ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਲਈ (ਭਾਵੇਂ ਕਿੰਨਾ ਹੀ ਪੈਂਡਾ ਕਿਉਂ ਨਾ ਹੋਵੇ) ਦੌੜਕੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਗੁਰ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਢੂੰਢਕੇ ਲੱਭਦੇ ਹਨ।
Who search out the Guru's Sikhs and hasten to do them favours.
ਦੁਬਿਧਾਪੰਥਿਨਧਾਵਨੀਮਾਇਆਵਿਚਿਉਦਾਸੁਰਹੰਦੇ।
ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਦੇ ਪੰਥ (ਅਨਮਤਾਂ) ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦੇ, ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਉਦਾਸ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ। (ਜਿਹਾ “ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਨ ਪੜਉ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਹੋਰ ਨ ਪੂਜਉ ਮੜੈ ਮਸਾਣਿ ਨ ਜਾਈ”)।
Worthy are the feet of the Silk's who do not go on the way of duality and possessing wealth remain indifferent to it.
ਬੰਦਿਖਲਾਸੀਬੰਦਗੀਵਿਰਲੇਕੇਈਹੁਕਮੀਬੰਦੇ।
ਬੰਦਗੀ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਦੀ 'ਬੰਦੇ' ਥੋਂ ਖਲਾਸੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ (ਪ੍ਰੰਤੂ) ਹੁਕਮ ਦੇ ਬੰਦੇ (=ਦਾਸ) ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਹੀ ਬੰਦੇ ਹਨ (“ਕੋਟਿ ਮਧੇ ਕੋ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਹੋਰਿ ਸਗਲੇ ਬਿਉਹਾਰੀ”)।
Few are the people who abide by the orders of the Supreme Commander, do Him homage and thus escape from their bonds;
ਗੁਰਸਿਖਾਪਰਦਖਣਾਂਪੈਰੀਪੈਰਹਰਾਸਿਕਰੰਦੇ।
ਗੁਰ ਸਿਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਪਰਕਰਮਾਂ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਪੈਰੀਂ ਪੈ ਕੇ (ਨਿੰਮ੍ਰਤਾ ਦੀ) ਰਹੁਰੀਤਿ (ਯਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ) ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
Who adopt the custom of circumambulating the Guru's Sikhs and falling at their feet.
ਗੁਰਚੇਲੇਪਰਚੈਪਰਚੰਦੇ।੧੩।
ਗੁਰ ਚੇਲੇ ਦੇ ਪਰਚੇ (ਪ੍ਰੇਮ) ਵਿਖੇ ਪਰਚ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ॥
The Guru's Sikhs delight in such enjoyments.
ਗੁਰਸਿਖਮਨਿਪਰਗਾਸੁਹੈਪਿਰਮਪਿਆਲਾਅਜਰੁਜਰੰਦੇ।
(ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ) ਗੁਰਸਿਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ (ਗਿਆਨ ਦਾ) ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਹੈ (ਉਹ) ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਲਾ (ਜੋ) ਅਜਰ ਵਸਤੂ ਹੈ, ਜਰ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਅੱਗੇ ਜਰਣ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਦੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ)।
The enlightened mind of the Sikhs drinks and digests the unbearable cup of the love of the Lord.
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁਪੂਰਨਬ੍ਰਹਮੁਬ੍ਰਹਮੁਬਿਬੇਕੀਧਿਆਨੁਧਰੰਦੇ।
ਉਹ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਬਿਬੇਕੀ ਪੁਰਖ ਪੂਰਣ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਦਾ (ਮਨ ਕਰਕੇ) ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
Armed with the knowledge of the Brahm, they meditate upon the transcendental Brahm.
ਸਬਦਸੁਰਤਿਲਿਵਲੀਣਹੋਇਅਕਥਕਥਾਗੁਰਸਬਦੁਸੁਣੰਦੇ।
ਸਬਦ ਦੀ ਗਿਆਤ ਦੀ ਸਮਾਧਿ ਵਿਖੇ ਮਗਨ ਹੋ ਕੇ (ਕੰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਅਕਥ ਕਥਾ ਸੁਣਦੇ ਹਨ।
Merging their consciousness in the Word-sabad, they recite the indescribable story of the Word-the Guru.
ਭੂਤਭਵਿਖਹੁਂਵਰਤਮਾਨਅਬਿਗਤਿਗਤਿਅਤਿਅਲਖਲਖੰਦੇ।
(ਫਲ ਇਹ ਕਿ) ਭੂਤ ਭਵਿੱਖਤ ਅਤੇ ਵਰਤਮਾਨ ਵਿਖੇ ਜੋ ਅਤਿ ਅਬਿਗਤ ਗਤੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਬੀ ਨਾ ਲਖ ਸਕਣ (ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਬਿਬੇਕੀ) ਲਖ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ। (ਯਥਾ:-”ਮੰਨੈ ਸਗਲ ਭਵਣ ਦੀ ਸੁਧਿ” ਅਰਥਾਤ ਮੰਨਣ ਕਰਣ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡਾਂ) ਦੀ ਖ਼ਬਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
They are competent to see incomprehensible pace of the past, present and future.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸੁਖਫਲੁਅਛਲੁਛਲੁਭਗਤਿਵਛਲੁਕਰਿਅਛਲੁਛਲੰਦੇ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਤਮ ਸੁਖ-ਫਲ (ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਆਪ) ਛਲੇ ਜਾਣ ਤੋਂ ਅਛਲ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਭਗਤ ਵਛਲ (ਭਗਵਾਨ ਦੀ ਦਯਾ) ਨਾਲ ਅਛਲ (ਜੋ ਕਾਮਾਦਿ ਵਿਖਯ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਛਲ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
Never deluding fruit of joy, the gurmukhs get, and with grace of the God, kind to devotees, they rather delude the evil propensities.
ਭਵਜਲਅੰਦਰਿਬੋਹਿਥੈਇਕਸਪਿਛੇਲਖਤਰੰਦੇ।
ਜਿਕੁਰ ਜਲ (ਸਾਗਰ) ਵਿਖੇ ਜਹਾਜ਼ (ਤਿਵੇਂ ਭਵ=) ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਖੇ (ਐਸੇ) ਇਕ ਪਿਛੇ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਤਰ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
They work as a boat in the world-ocean and ferry across the millions who follow one gurmukh, the Guru-oriented person.
ਪਰਉਪਕਾਰੀਮਿਲਨਿਹਸੰਦੇ।੧੪।
ਪਰਉਪਕਾਰੀ ਲੋਕ ਸਦਾ ਖਿੜੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਮਿਲਦੇ ਹਨ।
The altruist Sikhs always come up smiling.
ਬਾਵਨਚੰਦਨਆਖੀਐਬਹਲੇਬਿਸੀਅਰੁਤਿਸੁਲਪਟਾਹੀ।
ਬਾਵਨ ਚੰਦਨ (ਜੋ) ਕਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਬਾਹਲੇ ਸੱਪ ਚੰਬੜੇ ਹੋਏ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਭਾਵ ਇਹ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਸੱਪਾਂ ਦਾ ਤਮੋਗੁਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਗ੍ਰਹਿਣ ਕਰਦਾ)।
The snakes are said to be coiled around the sandal tree (but the tree is not influenced by their poison).
ਪਾਰਸੁਅੰਦਰਿਪਥਰਾਪਥਰਪਾਰਸੁਹੋਇਨਜਾਹੀ।
ਪਾਰਸ ਪੱਥਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰੰਤੂ ਪਾਰਸ ਆਪ ਪੱਥਰ ਦਾ ਗੁਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਧਾਰਦਾ।
The philosopher's stone exists among stones but does not turn out to be an ordinary stone.
ਮਣੀਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂਸਪਾਂਸਿਰੀਂਓਇਭਿਸਪਾਂਵਿਚਿਫਿਰਾਹੀ।
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸੱਪਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਿਰਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਮਣੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਓਹ ਬੀ ਸੱਪਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਪਰੰਤੂ ਆਪਣਾ ਗੁਣ ਹੀ ਰਖਦੇ ਹਨ। ਭਾਵ ਸਤਸੰਗੀ ਲੋਕ ਕੁਸੰਗੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਗੁਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਧਾਰਦੇ)।
The jewel-holding snake also roams about among the ordinary snakes.
ਲਹਰੀਅੰਦਰਿਹੰਸੁਲੇਮਾਣਕਮੋਤੀਚੁਗਿਚੁਗਿਖਾਹੀ।
(ਮਾਨ ਸਰੋਵਰ) ਲਹਿਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਹੰਸ ਮਾਣਕ ਮੋਤੀ ਹੀ ਚੁਗ ਚੁਗ ਕੇ ਖਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ ਗੁਣ ਗ੍ਰਹਣ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ)।
From the waves of the pond, the swans pick up only pearls and gems to eat.
ਜਿਉਂਜਲਿਕਵਲਅਲਿਪਤੁਹੈਘਰਿਬਾਰੀਗੁਰਸਿਖਿਤਿਵਾਹੀ।
ਜਿਕੁਰ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਕਮਲ ਅਲੇਪ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਘਰਬਾਰੀ ਸਿੱਖ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
As the lotus remains unsmeared in water, the same is the position of the householder Sikh.
ਆਸਾਵਿਚਿਨਿਰਾਸੁਹੋਇਜੀਵਨੁਮੁਕਤਿਜੁਗਤਿਜੀਵਾਹੀ।
ਆਸਾ ਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਨਿਰਾਸ ਹੋਕੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਮੁਕਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਜੀਵਨ ਬਿਤੀਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
He residing among all the hopes and cravings around, adopts the skill of liberation in life and lives (happily).

ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ (ਦੀ ਮਹਿਮਾਂ) ਕਿਸ ਮੁਖ ਨਾਲ ਸਲਾਹੀਏ।
How could one eulogise the holy congregation.
ਧੰਨੁਧੰਨੁਸਤਿਗੁਰਪੁਰਖੁਨਿਰੰਕਾਰਿਆਕਾਰੁਬਣਾਇਆ।
ਧੰਨ ਧੰਨ ਹਨ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪੁਰਖ (ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ) ਸਰੂਪ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਨੇ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੈ।
The formless Lord has assumed the form of true Guru, the blessed one.
ਧੰਨੁਧੰਨੁਸਤਿਗੁਰਸਿਖਸੁਣਿਚਰਣਿਸਰਣਿਗੁਰਸਿਖਜੁਆਇਆ।
ਧੰਨ ਧੰਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸਿੱਖ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਗੁਰ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਯਾ ਸੁਣਕੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
Fortunate is the Sikh of the Guru who listening to the teaching of the Guru has sought the shelter of the Guru-feet.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਮਾਰਗੁਧੰਨੁਹੈਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਮਿਲਿਸੰਗੁਚਲਾਇਆ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਰਸਤਾ ਧੰਨ ਹੈ, (ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ) ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਕੇ ਇਹ ਸੰਗ ਤੋਰਿਆ ਹੈ।
The way of the gurmukhs is blessed on which one treads through the holy congregation.
ਧੰਨੁਧੰਨੁਸਤਿਗੁਰਚਰਣਧੰਨੁਮਸਤਕੁਗੁਰਚਰਣੀਲਾਇਆ।
ਧੰਨ ਧੰਨ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨ ਹਨ, ਧੰਨ ਉਹ ਮੱਥਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨੀ ਲਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
Blest is feet of the true Guru and that head is also fortunate which reposes on the feet of Guru.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਦਰਸਨੁਧੰਨੁਹੈਧੰਨੁਧੰਨੁਗੁਰਸਿਖਪਰਸਣਿਆਇਆ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਧੰਨ ਹੈ, ਧੰਨ ਧੰਨ ਗੁਰ ਸਿੱਖ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਦੇਖਣ ਆਇਆ।
The glimpse of the true Guru is auspicious and the Sikh of the Guru is also blessed one who has come to have sight of the Guru.
ਭਾਉਭਗਤਿਗੁਰਸਿਖਵਿਚਿਹੋਇਦਇਆਲੁਗੁਰੁਮੁਹਿਲਾਇਆ।
(ਜਿਸ) ਸਿੱਖ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰੇਮਾ ਭਗਤੀ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਦਿਆਲੂ ਹੋਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਮੂੰਹ ਲਾਉਂਦੇ (ਭਾਵ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ੍ਰ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ)।
The Guru loves happily the devotional feelings of the Sikh.
ਦੁਰਮਤਿਦੂਜਾਭਾਉਮਿਟਾਇਆ।੧੬।
ਉਸਦੀ ਦੁਰਬੁਧੀ ਤੇ ਦੁਵੈਤ ਭਾਵ ਮਿਟਾ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
The wisdom of the Guru decimates duality.

ਧੰਨ ਉਹ ਪਲ, ਚਸਾ, ਘੜੀ, ਪਹਿਰ, ਤੇ ਧੰਨ ਧੰਨ ਓਹ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਥਿੱਤ, ਵਾਰ ਹਨ।
Blessed is the moment, the blinking time, the hour, the date, the day (during which you remember the Lord).
ਧੰਨੁਧੰਨੁਦਿਹੁਰਾਤਿਹੈਪਖੁਮਾਹਰੁਤਿਸੰਮਤਿਜਾਗੇ।
ਧੰਨ ਧੰਨ ਦਿਹੁ, ਰਾਤ, ਪੱਖ, ਮਾਹ ਰੁਤਿ, ਸੰਮਤ (ਜਾਗੇ=) ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਹਨ।
Day, night, fortnight, months, season and the year are auspicious wherein mind tries to rise (to divinity).

ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਦੁਆਰੇ ਆਕੇ ਚਰਨ ਕਵਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਰਸ ਵਿਚ ਤਦਾਕਾਰ ਹੋ ਗਏ।
Reaching the door of Guru (the Gurudwara) mind gets absorbed in the delight of the lotus feet (of Guru).
ਗੁਰਉਪਦੇਸੁਅਵੇਸੁਕਰਿਅਨਭੈਪਿਰਮਪਿਰੀਅਨੁਰਾਗੇ।
ਗੁਰ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਨੂੰ ਧਾਰਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਅਨੁਭਵ (ਖੁਲ੍ਹ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ) ਪਿਆਰੇ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਿਚ ਅਨੁਰਾਗ (ਮਗਨਤਾ) ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
Adopting the teachings of Guru, the state of fearlessness and total absorption in the love (of Lord) is attained.
ਸਬਦਿਸੁਰਤਿਲਿਵਸਾਧਸੰਗਿਅੰਗਿਅੰਗਿਇਕਰੰਗਿਸਮਾਗੇ।
ਸਬਦ ਦੀ ਸੁਰਤ ਵਿਖੇ ਸਮਾਧਿ ਲਾਕੇ, ਅੰਗ ਅੰਗ ਵਿਖੇ ਇਕ ਈਸ਼ਵਰ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਿਖੇ (ਸਮਾਗੇ=) ਸਮਾ ਗਏ ਜੋ।
Immersing the consciousness in the sabad (word) through and in the holy congregation, every limb ( of the devotee) reverberates the lustre of the (steadfast) colour of the Lord.
ਰਤਨੁਮਾਲੁਕਰਿਕਚੇਧਾਗੇ।੧੭।
(ਓਹ ਕੱਚੇ ਧਾਗੇ=) ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਖੇ (ਸਵਾਸਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਰਤਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਾਲਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ ਸਫਲ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ)।
The Sikhs of the Guru have made jewel garland of the fragile thread of breath (and they make full use of the same).
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਮਿਠਾਬੋਲਣਾਜੋਬੋਲੈਸੋਈਜਪੁਜਾਪੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਿੱਠਾ ਬਚਨ ਬੋਲਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜੋ ਬੋਲਦੇ ਹਨ ਸੋ (ਈਸ਼ਵਰ ਦਾ) ਜਾਪ ਜਪਦੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਲਾਪ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ)।
The polite language of a Sikh brings out what he thinks in his mind and heart.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਧਾਰਕੇ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
A Sikh beholds God everywhere with his own eyes, and that is equal to a yogi's meditation.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸੁਨਣਾਸੁਰਤਿਕਰਿਪੰਚਸਬਦੁਗੁਰਸਬਦਿਅਲਾਪੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਗੁਰ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦਾ ਅਲਾਪ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਪੰਜਾਂ ਸ਼ਬਦਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਗੁਰ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ) ਸੁਰਤ ਨਾਲ ਸੁਣਦੇ ਹਨ।
When a Sikh listens attentively to, or himself sings, the word of God, that is equal to the five ecstatic sounds in the brain of a yogi.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਕਿਰਤਿਕਮਾਵਣੀਨਮਸਕਾਰੁਡੰਡਉਤਿਸਿਞਾਪੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖ (ਹੱਥਾਂ ਨਾਲ) ਕਿਰਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਰ ਸਿਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਨਮਸਕਾਰ ਤੇ ਡੰਡੌਤਾਂ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
Earning livelihood with his hands by a Sikh is equal to the obeisance and prostration (of Hindus).
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਮਾਰਗਿਚਲਣਾਪਰਦਖਣਾਪੂਰਨਪਰਤਾਪੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖ (ਪੈਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ) ਰਸਤਾ ਤੁਰਕੇ (ਪੂਰਨ ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪ ਵਾਲੇ) ਸਤਿਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਦੱਖਣਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
When, the gurmukh, walks to behold the Guru, that is equal to an extremely holy circumambulation.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਖਾਣਾਪੈਨਣਾਜੋਗਭੋਗਸੰਜੋਗਪਛਾਪੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਖਾਣ, ਪਹਿਨਣ, ਜੋਗ, ਭੋਗ ਅਰ (ਸੰਜੋਗ=) ਮੇਲ ਦੀ ਵਿਧਿ (ਪਛਾਪੈ=) ਪਛਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਭਾਵ ਸਭ ਮਰਯਾਦਾਂ ਪਛਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ)।
When the Guru oriented person eats and clothes himself, that is equal to the performance of Hindu sacrifice and offering.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸਵਣੁਸਮਾਧਿਹੈਆਪੇਆਪਿਨਥਾਪਿਉਥਾਪੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਸੌਣਾ ਹੀ ਸਮਾਧੀ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਹੈ, ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਵਿਚ (ਮਗਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ) ਕੋਈ ਥਾਪ ਉਥਾਪ (ਭੰਨ ਘੜ, ਸੰਕਲਪ) ਨਹੀਂ ਫੁਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
When gurmukh sleeps, that is equal to a yogi's trance and the gunnukh withdraws not his thoughts from the object (God the Guru) of his concentration.
ਘਰਬਾਰੀਜੀਵਨਮੁਕਤਿਲਹਰਿਨਭਵਜਲਭਉਨਬਿਆਪੈ।
ਘਰਬਾਰੀ (ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਤ ਵਿਖੇ ਹੀ) ਜੀਵਨ ਮੁਕਤ ਹੈ, ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦੇ ਲੋਭ ਦੀ ਲਹਿਰ (ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਨਹੀਂ ਵਿਆਪਦੀ।
The householder is liberated in life; he is not afraid of the waves of the world's ocean and fear does not enter his heart.
ਪਾਰਿਪਏਲੰਘਿਵਰੈਸਰਾਪੈ।੧੮।
(੯) ਵਰ ਅਰ ਸ਼ਰਾਪ ਥੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ, (ਭਾਵ ਸਭ ਨਾਲ ਸਮਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ। ਯਥਾ:-ਅੰਜਲ ਗਤ ਕਰ ਸੁਮਨ ਜਿਮ ਸਮ ਸੁਗੰਧ ਕਰ ਦੋਇ” ਜਿਕੁਰ ਫੁੱਲ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਹੱਥਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਗੰਧੀ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੋੜਦਾ ਅਰ ਔਹ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ)।
He goes beyond the region of blessings and curses, and does not utter them.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁਸਤਿਸਰੂਪੁਹੈਧਿਆਨਮੂਲੁਗੁਰਮੂਰਤਿਜਾਣੈ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਸਤਿ ਸਰੂਪ ਹੈ, ਧਿਆਨ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਢ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ (ਇਸ) ਮੂਰਤ ਨੂੰ (ਗੁਰਮੁਖ) ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
That the true Guru is the truth incarnate and is the basis of meditation is well known (to gurmukh).
ਸਤਿਨਾਮੁਕਰਤਾਪੁਰਖੁਮੂਲਮੰਤ੍ਰਸਿਮਰਣੁਪਰਵਾਣੈ।
(ਅਰ) ਸਤਿਨਾਮ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖ, (ਇਹ) ਮੂਲ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ੍ਰ (ਮਨ ਕਰਕੇ) ਸਿਮਰਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਵਾਣ ਹੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਚਰਣਕਵਲਮਕਰੰਦਰਸੁਪੂਜਾਮੂਲੁਪਿਰਮਰਸੁਮਾਣੈ।
ਚਰਨਾਂ ਕਮਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਕਰੰਦ ਰਸ (ਵਿਚ) ਮਗਨ ਹੋਕੇ (ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਪੂਜਾ ਦਾ ਮੂਲ ਜਾਣਕੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦਾ ਰਸ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਸਬਦਸੁਰਤਿਲਿਵਸਾਧਸੰਗਿਗੁਰਕਿਰਪਾਤੇਅੰਦਰਿਆਣੈ।
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ (ਸੁਰਤ=) ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਦੀ ਲਿਵ ਨੂੰ (ਮਨ) ਅੰਦਰ ਲਿਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
He enters into the immersion of word-consciousness through the Guru and the holy congregation.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਪੰਥੁਅਗੰਮੁਹੈਗੁਰਮਤਿਨਿਹਚਲੁਚਲਣੁਭਾਣੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਦਾ ਮਾਰਗ (ਮਨ ਬਾਣੀ ਥੋਂ) ਅਗੰਮ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਅਚਲ ਹੋਕੇ ਭਾਣੇ ਵਿਚ ਚਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
The way of the gurmukh is beyond the ken of mind and speech and he in accordance with the wisdom of the Guru and his own steadfast will, treads on it.
ਵੇਦਕਤੇਬਹੁਂਬਾਹਰੀਅਕਥਕਥਾਕਉਣੁਆਖਿਵਖਾਣੈ।
ਵੇਦਾਂ ਤੇ ਕਤੇਬਾਂ ਥੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ ਹੈ, (ਇਸ) ਅਕੱਥ ਕਥਾ ਨੂੰ ਕੌਣ ਆਖ ਸਕੇ।

ਗਿਣਤੀਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਲੰਘ ਕੇ ਪਛਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ (ਅਰਥਾਤ-ਜੋ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਦੇ ਅਗੰਮ ਪੰਥ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਯਥਾ ਸੁਖਮਨੀ:- “ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਜਾਨੈ॥ “ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਦੀ ਗਤੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਹੀ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ)।
This way can be identified only by crossing the limits and anxieties about the high and low of the world.
ਸੀਸੁਨਿਵਾਏਢੀਂਗੁਲੀਗਲਿਬੰਧੇਜਲੁਉਚਾਆਵੈ।
(ਲੋਕ ਢੀਂਗੁਲੀ=) ਪਾਣੀ ਦੇ ਜੰਤ੍ਰ੍ਰ ਦਾ ਗਲਾ ਬੰਨ੍ਹਕੇ ਸਿਰ ਨਿਵਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਪਾਣੀ ਉੱਚਾ ਆਵੇ, (ਭਾਵ ਅਪੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਨਿਉਂਦੀ, ਧੱਕੋ ਧੱਕੀ ਨਿਵਾਈਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਆਪ ਨਹੀਂ ਨਿਉਂਦਾ)।
To get water from a stream or pond, the dhingali (a pole with a bucket one end and a fulcrum in the middle used for drawing water) is lowered by catching hold of its neck, i.e. it is humbled forcibly and does not go down of its own.
ਘੁਘੂਸੁਝੁਨਸੁਝਈਚਕਈਚੰਦੁਨਡਿਠਾਭਾਵੈ।

ਸਿੰਬਲ ਦੇ ਬ੍ਰਿੱਛ ਨੂੰ ਫਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗਦੇ, ਵਾਂਸ ਵਿਖੇ ਚੰਦਨ ਦੀ ਵਾਸ਼ਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਾਉਂਦੀ। (ਯਥਾ:-”ਕਬੀਰ ਬਾਂਸ ਬਡਾਈ ਬੂਡਿਆ ਇਉ ਮਤ ਡੂਬਹੁ ਕੋਇ॥ ਚੰਦਨ ਕੈ ਨਿਕਟੇ ਬਸੈ ਬਾਂਸ ਸੁਗੰਧ ਨ ਹੋਇ॥ “)।
The silk cotton (simbal) tree yields no fruit and the bamboo grows near the sandal but is not perfumed thereby.
ਸਪੈਦੁਧੁਪੀਆਲੀਐਤੁਮੇਦਾਕਉੜਤੁਨਜਾਵੈ।
ਸੱਪ ਅਤੇ ਤੁੰਮੇ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਦੁੱਧ ਨਾਲ ਪਾਲੀਏ (ਪਰੰਤੂ ਸੱਪ ਦੀ ਵਿਖ ਤੇ) ਤੁੰਮੇ ਦੀ ਕਉੜੱਤਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦੀ।
Given milk to drink a serpent does not part with its poison and the bitterness of the colocynth also does not depart.
ਜਿਉਥਣਿਚੰਬੜਿਚਿਚੁੜੀਲੋਹੂਪੀਐਦੁਧੁਨਖਾਵੈ।
(ਗਊੂ ਦੇ) ਥਣ ਕੋਲ ਚਮਚਿੱਚੜ ਚੰਬੜਦਾ ਹੈ, ਲਹੂ ਪੀਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਦੁੱਧ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੀਂਦਾ।
The tick clings to the cow's udder but drinks blood instead of milk.
ਸਭਅਵਗੁਣਮੈਤਨਿਵਸਨਿਗੁਣਕੀਤੇਅਵਗੁਣਨੋਧਾਵੈ।
(ਭਾਈ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜੀ ਆਪ☬ਣੇ ਵਲੋਂ ਉੱਤਮ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦੇਕੇ ਸਮਝਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ) ਕਿ ਸਾਰੇ ਅਵਗੁਣ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਖੇ ਹਨ(ਈਸ਼ਵਰ ਦੇ) ਕੀਤੇ ਉਪਕਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡਕੇ ਅਸੀਂ ਅਵਗੁਣਾਂ ਵਲ ਦੌੜਦੇ ਹਾਂ।
All these demerits I have and if any one do me a favour, I return it with undesirable trait.
ਥੋਮਨਵਾਸੁਕਥੂਰੀਆਵੈ।੨੦।੬।
ਜਿਕੁਰ ਥੋਮ ਵਿਖੇ ਕਸਤੂਰੀ ਸੁਗੰਧੀ ਨਹੀਂ (ਤਿਹਾ ਸਾਡਾ ਦਿਲ ਮੋਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ)।
