ਰਣਕਾਲੀਗੁੱਸਾਖਾਇਕੈ॥੪੧॥
ਰਣਭੂਮੀ ਵਿਚ ਗੁੱਸਾ ਖਾ ਕੇ (ਕਾਲਕਾ ਨੇ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਕੁਝ ਕੀਤਾ) ॥੪੧॥
In her fury, Kali hath done this in the battlefield.41.
ਪਉੜੀ॥
ਦੁਹਾਕੰਧਾਰਾਮੁਹਜੁੜੇਅਣੀਆਰਾਂਚੋਈਆਂ॥
(ਸੂਰਮਿਆਂ ਦੀਆਂ) ਦੋਵੇਂ ਕਤਾਰਾਂ ਆਹਮੋ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਡਟ ਗਈਆਂ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਤਿਖੀਆਂ ਬਰਛੀਆਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਲਹੂ ਚੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ।
Both the armies are facing each other and the blood is dripping from the tips of arrows.
ਧੂਹਿਕਿਰਪਾਣਾਂਤਿੱਖੀਆਂਨਾਲਿਲੋਹੂਧੋਈਆਂ॥
(ਸੂਰਮਿਆਂ ਨੇ) ਤੇਜ਼ ਤਲਵਾਰਾਂ ਖਿਚ ਕੇ ਲਹੂ ਨਾਲ ਧੋਈਆਂ ਸਨ।
Pulling the sharp swords, they have been washed with blood.
ਹੂਰਾਂਸ੍ਰਣਵਤਬੀਜਨੂੰਘਤਿਘੇਰਖਲੋਈਆਂ॥
(ਇੰਜ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਹੂਰਾਂ ਰਕਤ-ਬੀਜ ਨੂੰ ਘੇਰ ਕੇ ਖਲੋ ਗਈਆਂ ਹਨ,
The heavenly damsels (houris), surrounding Sranwat Beej, are standing;
ਲਾੜਾਦੇਖਣਲਾੜੀਆਂਚਉਗਿਰਦੇਹੋਈਆਂ॥੪੨॥
(ਜਿਵੇਂ) ਲਾੜੇ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖਣ ਲਈ ਸੁੰਦਰੀਆਂ ਚੌਹਾਂ ਪਾਸੇ ਹੋ ਗਈਆਂ ਹੋਣ ॥੪੨॥
Like the brides surrounding the bridegroom in order to see him.42.
ਚੋਬੀਂਧਉਸਾਂਪਾਈਆਂਦਲਾਂਮੁਕਾਬਲਾ॥
ਨਗਾਰਚੀ ਨੇ ਧੌਂਸੇ (ਉਤੇ ਚੋਟ ਮਾਰੀ ਅਤੇ) ਦੋਹਾਂ ਦਲਾਂ ਦਾ ਮੁਕਾਬਲਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ।
The drummer beat the trumpet and armies attacked each other.
ਦਸਤੀਂਧੂਹਿਨਚਾਈਆਂਤੇਗਾਂਨੰਗੀਆਂ॥
(ਸੂਰਵੀਰਾਂ ਨੇ) ਹੱਥਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਤਿਖੀਆਂ ਤਲਵਾਰਾਂ ਖਿਚ ਕੇ ਨੰਗੀਆਂ ਨਚਾਈਆਂ
With their hands they pulled the naked sword and caused their dance.
ਸੂਰਿਆਂਦੇਤਨਲਾਈਆਂਗੋਸ਼ਤਗਿੱਧੀਆਂ॥
ਅਤੇ ਮਾਸ (ਨੂੰ ਖਾਣ ਲਈ) ਗਿਝੀਆਂ ਹੋਈਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੂਰਮਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਰੀਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਲਗਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
These devourers of meat were struck on the bodies of the warriors.
ਬਿੱਧਣਰਾਤੀਂਆਈਆਂਮਰਦਾਂਘੋੜਿਆਂ॥
ਮਰਦਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਘੋੜਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੁਖਦਾਇਕ ਰਾਤਾਂ ਆ ਗਈਆਂ।
The nights of agony have come for the men and horses.
ਜੋਗਣੀਆਂਮਿਲਿਧਾਈਆਂਲੋਹੂਭੱਖਣਾ॥
ਜੋਗਣਾਂ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਭਜੀਆਂ ਆ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਸਨ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ (ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ) ਲਹੂ ਪੀਣਾ ਸੀ।
The Yoginis have come together speedily in order to drink the blood.
ਫਉਜਾਂਮਾਰਿਹਟਾਈਆਂਦੇਵਾਂਦਾਨਵਾਂ॥
ਦੇਵੀ ਨੇ ਦੈਂਤਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਫ਼ੌਜਾਂ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਹਟਾ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ ਸਨ।
The godess hath repulsed the demon-forces with her blows.
ਭਜਦੀਕਥਾਂਸੁਣਾਈਆਂਰਾਜੇਸੁੰਭਥੈ॥
(ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ) ਭਜ ਕੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਸ਼ੁੰਭ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਦਸੀਆਂ ਸਨ
They told the story of their repulsion before the king Sumbh.
ਭੂਈਂਨਪਉਣੈਪਾਈਆਂਬੂੰਦਾਰਕਤਦੀਆ॥
(ਕਿ ਕਾਲਕਾ ਨੇ ਰਕਤ-ਬੀਜ ਦੇ) ਲਹੂ ਦੀਆਂ ਬੂੰਦਾ ਧਰਤੀ ਉਤੇ ਪੈਣ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ।
The drops of blood (of Sranwat Beej) could not fall on the earth.
ਕਾਲੀਖੇਤਿਖਪਾਈਆਂਸਭੇਸੂਰਤਾਂ॥
ਕਾਲਕਾ ਨੇ ਯੁੱਧ-ਭੂਮੀ ਵਿਚ (ਰਕਤ-ਬੀਜ ਦੇ ਲਹੂ ਤੋਂ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਈਆਂ) ਸੂਰਤਾਂ ਨਸ਼ਟ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ।
Kali destroyed all the manifestations of (Sranwat Beej) in the battlefield.
ਬਹੁਤੀਂਸਿਰੀਂਬਿਹਾਈਆਂਘੜੀਆਂਕਾਲਕੀਆਂ॥
ਬਹੁਤਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਤੇ ਕਾਲ ਦੀ ਘੜੀਆਂ ਬੀਤੀਆਂ ਸਨ।
The last moments of death came over the heads of many fighters.
ਜਾਣਿਨਜਾਏਮਾਈਆਂਜੂਝੇਸੂਰਮੇ॥੪੩॥
(ਇਤਨੇ ਸੂਰਮੇ ਮਾਰੇ ਗਏ ਹਨ ਕਿ) ਲਗਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਮਾਂਵਾਂ ਨੇ ਜੰਮਿਆ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ॥੪੩॥
The brave fighters could not even be recognized by their mothers, who gave birth to them.43.
ਸੁੰਭਸੁਣੀਕਰਹਾਲੀਸ੍ਰਣਵਤਬੀਜਦੀ॥
ਸ਼ੁੰਭ ਨੇ ਰਕਤ-ਬੀਜ ਦੀ ਮਾੜੀ ਖ਼ਬਰ ਸੁਣੀ।
Sumbh heard the bad news about the death of Sranwat Beej;
ਰਣਵਿਚਿਕਿਨੈਨਝਾਲੀਦੁਰਗਾਆਂਵਦੀ॥
(ਇਹ ਵੀ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਕਿ) ਰਣਭੂਮੀ ਵਿਚ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਹੋਈ ਦੁਰਗਾ ਦੀ ਝਾਲ ਕਿਸੇ ਨਾ ਝਲੀ।
And that none could withstand the marching Durga in the battlefield.
ਬਹੁਤੇਬੀਰਜਟਾਲੀਉਠੇਆਖਿਕੈ॥
(ਉਦੋਂ ਹੀ) ਬਹੁਤ ਜਟਾਧਾਰੀ ਵੀਰ (ਰਾਖਸ਼ ਇਹ) ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਉਠੇ
Many brave fighters with matted hair got up saing;
ਚੋਟਾਪਾਨਤਬਾਲੀਜਾਸਨਜੁੱਧਨੂੰ॥
ਕਿ ਨਗਾਰਿਆਂ ਉਤੇ ਚੋਟਾਂ ਲਾ ਦਿਓ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹ) ਯੁੱਧ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣਗੇ।
That drummers should sound the drums because they would go for war.
ਥਰਿਥਰਿਪ੍ਰਿਥਮੀਚਾਲੀਦਲਾਂਚੜੰਦਿਆਂ॥
(ਰਾਖਸ਼ਾਂ ਦੇ) ਦਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਚੜ੍ਹਤ ਨਾਲ ਧਰਤੀ ਥਰ-ਥਰ ਕੰਬਣ ਲਗ ਗਈ
When the armies marched, the earth trembled;
ਨਾਉਜਿਵੇਹੈਹਾਲੀਸਹੁਦਰੀਆਉਵਿਚਿ॥
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਸ਼ਹੁ ਦਰਿਆ ਵਿਚ ਨੌਕਾ ਹਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ।
Like the shaking boat, which is still in the river.
ਧੂੜਿਉਤਾਹਾਂਘਾਲੀਛੜੀਂਤੁਰੰਗਮਾਂ॥
ਘੋੜਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਖੁਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਧੂੜ ਉਪਰ ਵਲ ਉਡਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ
The dust arose with the hooves of the horses;
ਜਾਣਿਪੁਕਾਰੂਚਾਲੀਧਰਤੀਇੰਦ੍ਰਥੈ॥੪੪॥
ਮਾਨੋ ਧਰਤੀ ਪੁਕਾਰ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਇੰਦਰ ਕੋਲ ਚਲੀ ਹੋਵੇ ॥੪੪॥
And it seemed that the earth is going to Indra for a complaint.44.
ਪਉੜੀ॥
ਆਹਰੁਮਿਲਿਆਆਹਰੀਆਂਸੈਣਸੂਰਿਆਂਸਾਜੀ॥
ਉਦਮੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਰੁਝੇਵਾਂ ਮਿਲ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਸੂਰਮਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਸੈਨਾ ਸਜਾ ਲਈ।
The willing workers got engaged in work and as warriors they equipped the army.
ਚੱਲੇਸਉਹੇਂਦੁਰਗਸਾਹਜਣੁਕਾਬੈਹਾਜੀ॥
(ਉਹ) ਦੁਰਗਾ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਚਲੇ ਸਨ ਮਾਨੋ ਹਾਜੀ ਕਾਬੇ (ਵਲ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹੋਣ)।
They marched in front of Durga, like pilgrims going for Haj to Kaabah (Mecca).
ਤੀਰੀਂਤੇਗੀਂਜਮਧੜੀਂਰਣਵੰਡੀਭਾਜੀ॥
ਤੀਰਾਂ, ਤਲਵਾਰਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਕਟਾਰਾਂ ('ਜਮਧੜੀ') ਦੀ ਰਣ ਵਿਚ ਭਾਜੀ ਵੰਡੀ ਗਈ।
They are inviting the warriors in the battlefield through the medium of arrows, swords and daggers.
ਇਕਿਘਾਇਲਘੂਮਨਿਸੂਰਮੇਜਣੁਮਕਤਬਕਾਜੀ॥
ਇਕ ਜ਼ਖਮੀ ਹੋਏ ਸੂਰਮੇ (ਰਣ ਵਿਚ ਇਉਂ) ਘੁੰਮ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ ਮਾਨੋ ਮਦਰਸੇ ਵਿਚ ਕਾਜ਼ੀ (ਕੁਰਾਨ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਉਂਦਾ ਘੁੰਮ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੋਵੇ)।
Some wounded warriors are swinging like the Quadis in the school, reciting the holy Quran.
ਇਕਿਬੀਰਪਰੋਤੇਬਰਛੀਏਂਜਿਉਝੁਕਪਉਨਿਨਿਵਾਜੀ॥
ਇਕ ਵੀਰ ਯੋਧੇ ਬਰਛੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਪਰੁਚੇ (ਇਉਂ ਅਗੇ ਨੂੰ ਝੁਕੇ ਹੋਏ ਸਨ) ਜਿਵੇਂ ਨਮਾਜ਼ੀ (ਨਮਾਜ਼ ਪੜ੍ਹਨ ਵੇਲੇ) ਝੁਕਦੇ ਹਨ।
Some brave fighters are pierced by daggers and lining like a devout Muslim performing prayer.
ਇਕਿਦੁਰਗਾਸਉਹੇਖੁਨਸਿਕੈਖੁਨਸਾਇਨਿਤਾਜੀ॥
ਇਕ (ਸੂਰਮੇ) ਕ੍ਰੋਧਵਾਨ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਘੋੜੇ ਨੂੰ ਚਮਕਾ ਦੇ ਦੁਰਗਾ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਸਨ,
Some go in front of Durga in great fury by inciting their malicious horses.
ਇਕਿਧਾਵਨਦੁਰਗਾਸਾਮ੍ਹਣੇਜਿਉਭੁਖਿਆਏਪਾਜੀ॥
ਇਕ ਦੁਰਗਾ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਧਾ ਕੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਭੁਖੇ ਪਾਜੀ ਹਨ।
Some run in front of Durga like the hungry scoundrels;
ਕਦੇਨਰੱਜੇਜੁਝਤੇਰਜਹੋਏਰਾਜੀ॥੪੫॥
(ਉਹ ਯੋਧੇ) ਕਦੇ ਵੀ ਯੁੱਧ ਕਰਕੇ ਰਜਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਨਾ ਹੀ ਖੁਸ਼ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਸਨ ॥੪੫॥
Who had never been satisfied in the war, but now they are satiated and pleased.45.
ਬੱਜੇਸੰਗਲੀਆਲੇਸੰਘਰਡੋਹਰੇ॥
ਸੰਗਲਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਦੂਹਰੇ ਨਗਾਰੇ ('ਸੰਘਰਿ') ਵਜ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ।
The enchained double trumpets sounded.
ਡਹੇਜੁਖੇਤਜਟਾਲੇਹਾਠਾਂਜੋੜਿਕੈ॥
ਜਟਾਧਾਰੀ ਯੋਧੇ ਕਤਾਰਾਂ ਬੰਨ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਯੁੱਧ ਵਿਚ ਜੁਟ ਗਏ ਸਨ।
Gathering together in ranks, the warriors with matted hair are engaged in war in the battlefield.
ਨੇਜੇਬੰਬਲੀਆਲੇਦਿੱਸਨਿਓਰੜੇ॥
ਫੁੰਮਣਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਨੇਜ਼ੇ (ਇਉਂ) ਉਲਰੇ ਹੋਏ ਦਿਸ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ
The lances bedecked with tassels seem leaning;
ਚੱਲੇਜਾਣੁਜਟਾਲੇਨਾਵਨਗੰਗਨੂੰ॥੪੬॥
ਮਾਨੋ ਸਾਧੂ ਲੋਕ ('ਜਟਾਲੇ') ਗੰਗਾ ਨਹਾਉਣ ਨੂੰ ਚਲੇ ਹੋਣ ॥੪੬॥
Like the hermits with matted locks going towards the Ganges for taking a bath.46.
ਪਉੜੀ॥
ਦੁਰਗਾਅਤੈਦਾਨਵੀਸੂਲਹੋਈਆਂਕੰਗਾਂ॥
ਦੁਰਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਦੈਂਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਲ (ਇਕ ਦੂਜੇ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ) ਡਟ ਗਏ (ਅਰਥਾਤ ਸੂਲ ਵਾਂਗ ਚੁੱਭਣ ਲਗ ਗਏ)।
The forces of Durga and demons are piercing each other like sharp thorns.
ਵਾਛੜਘੱਤੀਸੂਰਿਆਂਵਿਚਿਖੇਤਖਤੰਗਾਂ॥
ਸੂਰਮਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਰਣ-ਭੂਮੀ ਵਿਚ ਤੀਰਾਂ ('ਖਤੰਗਾਂ') ਦੀ ਵਾਛੜ ਲਗਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ।
The warriors showered arrows in the battlefield.
ਧੂਹਿਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਣਾਤਿੱਖੀਆਂਬਢਿਲਾਹਨਿਅੰਗਾਂ॥
ਤਿਖੀਆਂ ਤਲਵਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਖਿਚ ਕੇ ਅੰਗਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਲਗਾਉਂਦੇ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਵਢ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਸਨ।
Pulling their sharp swords, they chop the limbs.
ਪਹਿਲਾਦਲਾਂਮਿਲੰਦਿਆਂਭੇੜੁਪਇਆਨਿਹੰਗਾ॥੪੭॥
ਫ਼ੌਜਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਦਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਭੇੜ ਬਹੁਤ ਦਲੇਰ ਯੋਧਿਆਂ ('ਨਿਹੰਗਾਂ') ਵਿਚ ਹੋਇਆ ॥੪੭॥
When the forces met, at first there was war with swords.47.
ਪਉੜੀ॥
ਓਰੜਿਫਉਜਾਂਆਈਆਂਬੀਰਚੜ੍ਹੇਕੰਧਾਰੀਂ॥
ਫ਼ੌਜਾਂ ਉਲਰ ਕੇ ਆ ਗਈਆਂ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਵੀਰ ਯੋਧਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਕਤਾਰਾਂ ਬੰਨ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਚੜ੍ਹਾਈ ਕੀਤੀ ਸੀ।
The forces came in great numbers and the ranks of warriors marched forward
ਸੜਕਿਮਿਆਨੋਕਢੀਆਂਤਿੱਖੀਆਂਤਰਵਾਰੀਂ॥
(ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ) ਸੜਕ ਸੜਕ ਕਰਦੀਆਂ ਤਿਖੀਆਂ ਤਲਵਾਰਾਂ ਮਿਆਨਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਖਿਚ ਲਈਆਂ।
They pulled their sharp swords from their scabbards.
ਕੜਕਿਉਠੇਰਣਮੱਚਿਆਵੱਡੇਹੰਕਾਰੀ॥
ਵੱਡੇ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਵਾਲੇ ਸੂਰਮੇ ਕੜਕ ਉਠੇ ਅਤੇ (ਘੋਰ) ਯੁੱਧ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ।
With the blazing of the war, the great egoist warriors shouted loudly.
ਸਿਰਧੜਬਾਹਾਂਗਨਲੇਫੁਲਜੇਹੇਬਾੜੀ॥
ਸਿਰ, ਧੜ ਅਤੇ ਬਾਂਹਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਟੁਕੜੇ (ਯੁੱਧ-ਭੂਮੀ ਵਿਚ ਇੰਜ ਪਏ ਹਨ) ਜਿਵੇਂ ਬਗੀਚੀ ਵਿਚ ਫੁਲ ਖਿੜੇ ਹੋਏ ਹੋਣ।
The pieces of head, trunk and arms look like garden-flowers.
ਜਾਪੇਕਟੇਬਾਢੀਆਂਰੁਖਚੰਦਨਆਰੀ॥੪੮॥
(ਜਾਂ) ਇੰਜ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਤ੍ਰਖਾਣਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਰੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਚੰਦਨ ਦੇ ਬ੍ਰਿਛ ਕਟ-ਕਟ ਕੇ (ਸੁਟੇ ਹੋਣ) ॥੪੮॥
And (the bodies) appear like the trees of sandalwood cut and sawed by the carpenters.48.
ਦੁਹਾਂਕੰਧਾਰਾਂਮੁਹਜੁੜੇਜਾਸੱਟਪਈਖਰਵਾਰਕਉ॥
ਜਦੋਂ ਵੱਡੇ ਨਗਾਰੇ ('ਖਰਵਾਰ') ਉਤੇ ਸੱਟ ਪਈ ਤਾ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਪਾਸਿਆਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਸੈਨਿਕ) ਟੁਕੜੀਆਂ ਆਹਮੋ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਹੋ ਗਈਆਂ।
When the trumpet, enveloped by the hide of a donkey, was beaten, both the forces faced each other.
ਤਕਿਤਕਿਕੈਬਰਦੁਰਗਸਾਹਤਕਿਮਾਰੇਭਲੇਜੁਝਾਰਕਉ॥
ਦੁਰਗਾ ਨੇ ਤਕ ਤਕ ਕੇ ਚੰਗਿਆਂ ਸੂਰਮਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੀਰ ਮਾਰੇ।
Looking at the warriors, Durga pointedly shot her arrows on the brave fighters.
ਪੈਦਲਮਾਰੇਹਾਥੀਆਂਸੰਗਿਰਥਗਿਰੇਅਸਵਾਰਕਉ॥
ਪੈਦਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਹਾਥੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਰਥਾਂ ਸਮੇਤ (ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ) ਸਵਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਿਆ।
The warriors on foot were killed, the elephants were killed alongwith the fall of the chariots and horse- riders.
