ਨਿਰਾਧਾਰਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੁਨਅਲਖੁਲਖਾਇਆ।
(ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ) ਕਿਸੇ ਦੇ ਆਸ਼੍ਰਯ ਨਹੀਂ ਅਕਾਰ ਤੋਂ ਰਹਿਤ ਹੈ (ਉਸ) ਅਲੱਖ ਨੇ (ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪ) ਲਖਾਇਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
The formless Lord who is without any anchor and is imperceptible, has not made himself fully known to anyone.
ਹੋਆਏਕੰਕਾਰੁਆਪੁਉਪਾਇਆ।
(ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨਿਰਾਕਾਰ ਸੀ। ਉਸ ਨਿਰਾਕਾਰ ਤੋਂ ਏਕੰਕਾਰ ਹੋਇਆ, (ਕਿਸੇ ਦੇ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਇਹ ਰੂਪ) ਆਪ ਉਪਾਇਆ।
From unembodiment He assumed the form by himself and becoming Oankar
ਓਅੰਕਾਰਿਅਕਾਰੁਚਲਿਤੁਰਚਾਇਆ।
(ਏਕੰਕਾਰ ਤੋਂ) ਓਅੰਕਾਰ ਰੂਪ ਦਾ ਕੌਤਕ ਰਚਿਆ (ਸ਼ਬਦ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਹੋਇਆ)।
He created infinite wondrous forms.
ਸਚੁਨਾਉਕਰਤਾਰੁਬਿਰਦੁਸਦਾਇਆ।
ਓਅੰਕਾਰ ਤੋਂ) ਸਤਿਨਾਮ (ਹੋਇਆ ਅਰ ਇਸ ਤੋਂ) ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖ (ਹੋਣ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਭਗਤ ਵਛਲ) ਬਿਰਦ ਸਦਵਾਯਾ।
In the form of the true name (ndm) and becoming the creator, He came to be known as the protector of His own reputation.
ਸਚਾਪਰਵਦਗਾਰੁਤ੍ਰੈਗੁਣਮਾਇਆ।
(ਪਰ ਆਪ ਕੁਝ ਹੇਰ ਫੇਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਖਾ ਗਿਆ ਉਹੋ ਨਿਰਾਕਾਰ ਸਤਿ ਸਰੂਪ ਰਿਹਾ) ਸੱਚਾ (ਓਹੋ ਤ੍ਰ੍ਰੈਕਾਲ ਅਬਾਧ ਰੂਪ ਵਾਲਾ ਰਹਿਕੇ ਹੁਣ ਨਾਲ) ਪਾਲਣ ਵਾਲਾ (ਸਦਵਾਇਆ, ਪਰ ਫੇਰ ਤ੍ਰਿਗੁਣਾਤੀਤ ਰਿਹਾ) ਤਿੰਨ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮਾਇਆ ਹੈ (ਆਪ ਨਹੀਂ)।
Through three dimensional maya He nourishes one and all.
ਸਿਰਠੀਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰੁਲੇਖੁਲਿਖਾਇਆ।
(ਤ੍ਰ੍ਰੈਗੁਣਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਹੋਣ ਕਰਕੇ) ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਨੇ ਸਿਰਜਣਾ ਤੋਂ ਲੇਖ ਲਿਖਵਾਇਆ (ਕਿ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਬਦਲਾ ਪਾਵਾਂਗੇ, ਜੇ ਇਹ ਹੁਕਮ ਨਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਤਦ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਚਲਦਾ ਹੀ ਨਾ)।
He is the creator of the cosmos and prescribes its destiny.
ਸਭਸੈਦੇਆਧਾਰੁਨਤੋਲਿਤੁਲਾਇਆ।
(ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਫਲ ਦਾ ਨਿਯਮ ਬੰਨ੍ਹਕੇ) ਆਸਰਾ ਸਭ ਨੂੰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ ਪਾਲਣਾ ਸਭ ਦੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਕਿਸੇ ਦਾ) ਤੋਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਤੋਲਦਾ। (ਭਾਵ “ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਦਇਆ ਨਿਧ ਦੋਖਨ ਦੇਖਤ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਦੇਤ ਨ ਹਾਰੈ॥ “ ਭਲੇ ਬੁਰੇ ਸਭ ਦੀ ਪਾਲਣਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
He is the basis of all, the incomparable One.
ਲਖਿਆਥਿਤਿਨਵਾਰੁਨਮਾਹੁਜਣਾਇਆ।
(ਇਸ ਰਚਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਚਨ ਦਾ) ਥਿੱਤ ਵਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਿਖਿਆ, ਨਾ ਮਹੀਨਾ ਹੀ ਜਣਾਇਆ ਹੈ।
None has ever disclosed the date, the day and month (of creation).
ਵੇਦਕਤੇਬਵੀਚਾਰੁਨਆਖਿਸੁਣਾਇਆ।੧।
(੯) ਵੇਦਾਂ ਕਤੇਬਾਂ (ਤੇ ਹੋਰ) ਵੀਚਾਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਵੀ (ਏਹ ਗੱਲ) ਨਹੀਂ ਦੱਸੀ।
Even the Vedas and other scriptures could not fully explain His thoughts.

ਨਿਰਾਲੰਬੁਨਿਰਬਾਣੁਬਾਣੁਚਲਾਇਆ।
ਨਿਰਆਸਰੇ ਤੇ ਨਿਰਬੰਧ ਬਾਣ (ਕਿਸ ਨੇ) ਚਲਾਇਆ?
Who without any props, and uncontrolled by habit has created behavioural patterns?
ਉਡੈਹੰਸਉਚਾਣਕਿਨਿਪਹੁਚਾਇਆ।
ਹੰਸ ਉਚਾਈ ਤੇ ਉਡਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਨਸਰੋਵਰ ਉਤੇ) ਕਿਸ ਨੇ ਪਹੁੰਚਾਇਆ?
How the swan reaches the heights of sky?
ਖੰਭੀਚੋਜਵਿਡਾਣੁਆਣਿਮਿਲਾਇਆ।
(ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਖੰਭਾਂ ਦਾ ਅਚਰਜ ਕੌਤਕ ਹੈ (ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਮਾਨ ਸਰੋਵਰ ਫੇਰ) ਆਣ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ਹੈ।
Wondrous is the mystery of wings which made the swan to soar at such heights.
ਧ੍ਰੂਚੜਿਆਅਸਮਾਣਿਨਟਲੈਟਲਾਇਆ।
(ਐਉਂ ਹੀ ਤਾਂ) ਧ੍ਰੂ ਅਸਮਾਨ ਤੇ ਚੜ੍ਹਿਆ ਹੈ (ਜੋ ਕਿਸੇ ਦਾ ਟਾਲਿਆ ਟਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ।
How did Dhruv in the form of immovable star mount the sky?
ਮਿਲੈਨਿਮਾਣੈਮਾਣੁਆਪੁਗਵਾਇਆ।
(ਜਿਸ ਨੇ) ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪ ਗੁਆ ਦਿਤਾ ਹੈ (ਉਸ) ਨਿਮਾਣੇ ਨੂੰ (ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ) ਮਾਣ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
It is a mystery how a humble eschewing ego acquires honour in life.
ਦਰਗਹਪਤਿਪਰਵਾਣੁਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਧਿਆਇਆ।੨।
(ਜਿਸਨੇ) ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਦੁਆਰਾ (ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ) ਨੂੰ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਹੈ, ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਪਤ (ਉਸੇ ਦੀ) ਪਰਵਾਨ ਪਈ ਹੈ।
Only the gurmukh who has meditated upon Lord is accepted in His court.
ਪਉੜੀ੩
ਓੜਕੁਓੜਕੁਭਾਲਿਨਓੜਕੁਪਾਇਆ।
ਜਤਨ ਨਾਲ (ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਰੂਪ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਦੇ) ਅੰਤ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਭਣ ਗਏ, (ਪਰੰਤੂ) ਓੜਕ (ਅੰਤ) ਹੱਥ ਨਾਂ ਆਇਆ।
In order to know Him, people put in extreme efforts but could not know His extant.
ਓੜਕੁਭਾਲਣਿਗਏਸਿਫੇਰਨਆਇਆ।
(ਜੋ) ਓੜਕ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਲਣ ਗਏ ਓਹ ਫੇਰ ਆਏ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ।
Those who went out to know His bounds could never return.
ਓੜਕੁਲਖਕਰੋੜਿਭਰਮਿਭੁਲਾਇਆ।
(ਤੇ ਹੋਰ) ਲੱਖਾਂ ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਓੜਕ (ਦੀ ਭਾਲ) ਨੇ ਭਰਮ ਵਿਚ ਭੁਲਾ ਦਿਤਾ।
To know Him, myriads of people have remained wandering in illusions.
ਆਦੁਵਡਾਵਿਸਮਾਦੁਨਅੰਤੁਸੁਣਾਇਆ।
ਆਦ ਵੱਡਾ ਅਸਚਰਜ ਰੂਪ ਹੈ (ਤੇ) ਅੰਤ ਸੁਣਾਇਆ ਹੀ ਨਾ।
That primeval Lord is the grand wonder whose mystery cannot be understood by mere listening.
ਹਾਥਿਨਪਾਰਾਵਾਰੁਲਹਰੀਛਾਇਆ।
(ਅਕਾਲ ਰੂਪ ਸਾਗਰ ਦੇ) ਪਾਰਾਵਾਰ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ (ਅਨੰਦ ਦੀਆਂ) ਲਹਿਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਛਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
His waves, shades etc are limitless.
ਇਕੁਕਵਾਉਪਸਾਉਨਅਲਖੁਲਖਾਇਆ।
(ੳਸ ਨੇ) ਇਕ ਵਾਕ ਥੋਂ ਹੀ ਪਸਾਰਾ ਕਰ ਦਿਤਾ ਹੈ (ਫੇਰ) ਆਪ ਅਲਖ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਲਖਾਇਆ ਨਹੀਂ।
The imperceptible Lord who has created all through His single vibration cannot be perceived.
ਕਾਦਰੁਨੋਕੁਰਬਾਣੁਕੁਦਰਤਿਮਾਇਆ।
ਉਸ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਥੋਂ (ਅਸੀਂ) ਵਾਰਨੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਾਂ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ (ਇਡੀ) ਕੁਦਰਤ (ਸ਼ਕਤੀ) ਹੈ; (ਕੋਈ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਨਹੀਂ?)
I am sacrifice unto that creator, whose maya is this creation.
ਆਪੇਜਾਣੈਆਪੁਗੁਰਿਸਮਝਾਇਆ।੩।
ਆਪਣੀ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ (ਇਹ ਗਲ ਬੀ ਉਹੋ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ) ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਸੂਝ ਪਾਈ ਹੈ।
The Guru has made me understand that God alone knows about His own self (none else can know Him).
ਪਉੜੀ੪
ਸਚਾਸਿਰਜਣਿਹਾਰੁਸਚਿਸਮਾਇਆ।
(ਜਗਤ ਦਾ) ਰਚਣਹਾਰਾ ਸੱਚਾ ਹੈ ਅਰ ਸੱਚ ਰੂਪ ਹੋਕੇ (ਰਚਨਾ ਵਿਖੇ) ਸਮਾਇ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ (ਯਥਾ: “ਆਪਿ ਸਤਿ ਕੀਆ ਸਭੁ ਸਤਿ॥ ਤਿਸੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇ ਸਗਲੀ ਉਤਪਤਿ॥ “)
The true Creator as the Truth is pervading one and all.
ਸਚਹੁਪਉਣੁਉਪਾਇਘਟਿਘਟਿਛਾਇਆ।
ਸੱਚ ਥੋਂ ਵਾਯੂ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਜੋ ਘਟਾਂ ਘਟਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ (ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਰੂਪ ਹੋਕੇ) ਛਾਇ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
Out of Truth He created air and (in the form of vital air) is residing in all
ਪਵਣਹੁਪਾਣੀਸਾਜਿਸੀਸੁਨਿਵਾਇਆ।
ਪੌਣ ਥੋਂ ਜਲ ਬਣਾਇਆ। (ਜਲ ਨੇ) ਸੀਸ ਨਿਵਾ ਦਿਤਾ। (ਯਥਾ:-”ਸਾਚੇ ਤੇ ਪਵਨਾ ਭਇਆ ਪਵਨੈ ਤੇ ਜਲੁ ਹੋਇ॥ ਜਲ ਤੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣੁ ਸਾਜਿਆ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਮੋਇ॥ “)
From air was created water which always remains humble i.e. it. always moves down wards.
ਤੁਲਹਾਧਰਤਿਬਣਾਇਨੀਰਤਰਾਇਆ।
(ਪਾਣੀ ਦੇ ਟਿਕਣ ਲਈ ਧਰਤੀ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਸੀ, ਇਸ ਲਈ ਪਾਣੀ ਅਰ ਹੋਰ ਚੀਜ਼ਾਂ ਲਈ) ਆਸਰਾ ਰੂਪ ਧਰਤ ਬਣਾਈ, (ਤੇ) ਪਾਣੀ (ਸਾਰੇ, ਉਸ ਉਤੇ) ਤਾਰਿਆ। (ਤਾਰਿਆ ਦਾ ਭਾਵ ਇਹ ਕਿ ਪਾਣੀ ਨੀਵਾਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਸੀ, ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਭਾਰੀ ਧਰਤ ਵਿਚ ਡੁਬ ਜਾਂਦਾ, ਤੇ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਇਹ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਧਰਤੀ ਪਾਣੀ ਜਦ ਕੱਠੇ ਹੋਣ ਤਦ ਪਾਣੀ ਤਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਭਾਈ ਸ
Earth as a raft is made to float on water.
ਨੀਰਹੁਉਪਜੀਅਗਿਵਣਖੰਡੁਛਾਇਆ।
ਪਾਣੀ ਤੋਂ ਅੱਗ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਈ, ਜੋ ('ਖੰਡ') ਮਹਾਂ ਦੀਪ (ਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਪਰ ਬਨ ਛਾ ਗਏ। ਭਾਵ ਸਮੁੰਦਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਬੜਵਾ ਅਗਨੀ ਦੇ ਬਲ ਨਾਲ ਬੜੇ ਬੜੇ ਮਹਾਂ ਦੀਪ ਬਣ ਗਏ ਜੋ ਫੇਰ ਪਾਣੀ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਬਨਾ ਨਾਲ ਛਾ ਗਏ। ਨੀਰ ਤੋਂ ਅੱਗ ਉਪਜਣ ਦਾ ਭਾਵ ਬੜਵਾ ਅਗਨੀ ਹੈ, ਯਾ ਸ਼ਾਇਦ ਇਹ ਭਾਵ ਹੋਵੇ ਕਿ ਪਾਣੀ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੋ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਣਦ
From water emerged fire which spread throughout the whole vegetation.
ਅਗੀਹੋਦੀਬਿਰਖੁਸੁਫਲਫਲਾਇਆ।
(ਇਸ ਤੋਂ) ਅਗੋਂ (ਫੇਰ) ਚੰਗੇ ਫਲਾਂ (ਨਾਲ) ਫਲਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬ੍ਰਿਛ ਹੋਏ।
By virtue of this very fire (heat) the trees became. full of fruits
ਪਉਣੁਪਾਣੀਬੈਸੰਤਰੁਮੇਲਿਮਿਲਾਇਆ।
(ਏਹ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ) ਪੌਣ ਪਾਣੀ ਤੇ ਬੈਸੰਤਰ ਦਾ ਮੇਲ ਮਿਲਾਯਾ ਹੈ (ਇਹ ਜੋ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ)।
In this way, air, water and fire were integrated under the order of that primaeval Lord
ਆਦਿਪੁਰਖੁਆਦੇਸੁਖੇਲੁਰਚਾਇਆ।੪।
(ਉਸ) ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖ ਨੂੰ ਨਮਸਕਾਰ ਹੈ (ਜਿਸ ਨੇ) ਖੇਲ ਰਚਾਇਆ ਹੈ।
And thus was this game of creation arranged.
ਪਉੜੀ੫
ਕੇਵਡੁਆਖਾਸਚੁਸਚੇਭਾਇਆ।
ਕਿੱਡਾਕੁ ਵੱਡਾ ਮੈਂ ਸੱਚ ਦਾ ਵਰਣਨ ਕਰਾਂ (ਜੋ) ਸੱਚੇ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ?
Flow great is the'truth that it is liked by that true One (God).
ਕੇਵਡੁਹੋਆਪਉਣੁਫਿਰੈਚਉਵਾਇਆ।
ਕਿੱਡਾਕੁ ਪੌਣ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਚੌਫੇਰੇ ਵਗ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ?
How vast is the air that moves in all the four directions.
ਚੰਦਣਵਾਸੁਨਿਵਾਸੁਬਿਰਖਬੋਹਾਇਆ।
ਚੰਦਨ ਵਿਖੇ ਵਾਸ ਦਾ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਬਿਰਛਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਗੰਧਤ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ ਸਤੋਗੂਣੀ ਲੋਕ ਸਤ ਦਾ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ)।
Fragrance is placed in sandal which makes other trees also fragrant.
ਖਹਿਖਹਿਵੰਸੁਗਵਾਇਵਾਂਸੁਜਲਾਇਆ।
ਵਾਸਾਂ (ਵਾਂਙੂੰ ਤਮੋਗੁਣੀ ਲੋਕ) ਖਹਿ ਖਹਿ ਕੇ ਆਪੋ ਵਿਚ ਮਰਦੇ ਤੇ ਜਲਕੇ ਕੁਲ ਦਾ ਨਾਸ਼ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
Bamboos burn by their own friction and destroy their own abode.
ਸਿਵਸਕਤੀਸਹਲੰਗੁਅੰਗੁਜਣਾਇਆ।
ਸ਼ਿਵ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਮਿਲਕੇ ਆਪੋ ਆਪਣਾ ਗੁਣ ਦੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ (ਸ਼ਿਵ-ਚੰਦਨ ਦੀ ਸੀਤਲਤਾ, ਤੇ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ-ਵਾਂਸਾਂ ਦੀ ਅੱਗ)।
The forms of the bodies have become visible y the association of Siva and Sakti.
ਕੋਇਲਕਾਉਨਿਆਉਬਚਨਸੁਣਾਇਆ।
ਕੋਇਲ ਅਤੇ ਕਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਿਆਉਂ (ਪਛਾਣ) ਬੋਲੀ ਬੋਲਣ ਥੋਂ (ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ), ਮਾਯਾ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਜੀਵ ਗੁਰੂ ਕੋਇਲ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸੁਣਕੇ ਸਤਿਸੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਜਾ ਰਲਦੇ ਹਨ)।
One distinguishes between the cuckoo and the crow by listening to their voice.
ਖਾਣੀਬਾਣੀਚਾਰਿਸਾਹਗਣਾਇਆ।
ਚਾਰ ਖਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ (ਬਣਾਉਤ) ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਸਾਹ ਗਿਣਕੇ ਪਾਏ ਹਨ।
He created the four life-mines and endowed them worthy speech and judiciously gifted breaths.
ਪੰਜਿਸਬਦਪਰਵਾਣੁਨੀਸਾਣੁਬਜਾਇਆ।੫।
ਪੰਜ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਪਰਵਾਨ ਹਨ, (ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ) ਵੱਜਣਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਹੈ।
He made the A's accept the five gross varieties of the (subtle) unstuck Word and thus on the beat of drum He pronounced His supremacy over all.

ਰਾਗਨਾਦਸੰਬਾਦਗਿਆਨੁਚੇਤਾਇਆ।
ਰਾਗ, ਸ਼ਬਦ 'ਸੰਬਾਦ' (ਆਪੋ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ਨੋਤਰ) (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸੰਬੰਧੀ) ਗਿਆਨ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਚਿਤਾਵਨੀ ਰਖਦੇ ਹਨ।
Music, melody, dialogue and knowledge make man a conscious being.

ਜੀਵ ਈਸ਼੍ਵਰ ਦੋਵੇਂ (ਆਪੇਖਕ ਪਦਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਲੰਘ ਕੇ (ਇਕ) ਨਿਜ ਘਰ (ਸ੍ਵੈ ਸਰੂਪ ਦੀ ਪਛਾਣ) ਵਿਚ ਆਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਅਥਵਾ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਅਗਿਣਤੀ ਦੁਹਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਲੰਘਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਰੂਪ ਨੂੰ ਪਹੁੰਚੇ)।
Transcending the worldy illusions he stabilizes within his self.

ਸਾਧ ਲੋਕ 'ਅਗੋਚਰ ਖੇਲ' ਹੋਕੇ (ਅਰਥਾਤ ਸ਼ਬਦ, ਸਪਰਸ਼, ਰੂਪ, ਰਸ, ਗੰਧ, ਇੰਦ੍ਰ੍ਰੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਖੇਲ ਤੋਂ ਰਹਿਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ) (ਉਨਮਨ) ਤੁਰੀਆ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਅਥਵਾ ਖੇਚਰ=ਅਕਾਸ਼, ਭੂਚਰ=ਪ੍ਰਿਥਵੀ, ਚਾਚਰ=ਪੌਣ, ਉਨਮਨ=ਜਲ, ਅਗੋਚਰ ਅਗਨੀ, ਏਹ ਪੰਜ ਤੱਤ ਸਿਧ ਕਰ ਲੀਤੇ ਭਾਵ ਸਰੀਰ ਦੀ ਇੱਛਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਖਦੇ, ਅਜਿਹੇ ਸਾਧ ਸਦਾਉਂਦੇ
Through such mysterious sport he establishes himself in the equipoise.

ਤ੍ਰੈਸਤੁਅੰਗੁਲਲੈਮਨੁਪਵਣੁਮਿਲਾਇਆ।
ਦਸ ਅੰਗੁਲੀ ਪ੍ਰਮਾਣ (ਸੁਆਸ ਬਾਹਰ ਜਾਕੇ ਫੇਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ) ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਪਵਣ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ।
The breath going ten fingers out the mind is associated with the vital air the practice is completed.
ਸੋਹੰਸਹਜਿਸੁਭਾਇਅਲਖਲਖਾਇਆ।
(ਇਸ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ਸੋਲਾਂ ਵਾਰ) ਸੋਹੰ (ਮੰਤ੍ਰ੍ਰ ਦਾ ਜਾਪ ਕਰਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਚੜ੍ਹਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਣਾਯਾਮ ਸਿੱਧ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਦ) ਸਹਿਜ ਸੁਭਾ ਹੀ ਅਲਖ ਲਖਿਆ (ਜਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ)।

ਨਿਝਰਿਧਾਰਿਚੁਆਇਅਪਿਉਪੀਆਇਆ।
ਇਕ ਰਸ (ਦਸਮ ਦੁਆਰ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਦੀ ਬੂੰਦ ਡਿਗਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸਨੂੰ ਯੋਗੀਸ਼੍ਵਰ ਲੋਕ) ਪਾਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
In this state of equipoise, the rare drink of ever-wing cascade is quaffed.
ਅਨਹਦਧੁਨਿਲਿਵਲਾਇਨਾਦਵਜਾਇਆ।
(ਫੇਰ) ਇਕ ਰਸ ਧੁਨੀ ਵਾਲੇ ਵਾਜੇ (ਦਸਮ ਦੁਵਾਰ ਦੇ) ਲਿਵ ਲਾਵੇ (ਸੁਣਦੇ) ਹਨ।
Getting absorbed in the unstruck melody a mysterious sound is heard.
ਅਜਪਾਜਾਪੁਜਪਾਇਸੁੰਨਸਮਾਇਆ।
ਅਜਪਾ ਜਾਪ' (ਓਅੰ ਸੋਹੰ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ੍ਰ ਦਾ ਜਾਪ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਭਾਵ ਹੋਂਠ ਫਰਕਣ ਥੋਂ ਬਾਝ, ਹ੍ਰਿਦਯ ਦੀ ਬ੍ਰਿਤੀ ਨਾਲ) ਜਪਕੇ (ਸੁੰਨ) ਅਫੁਰ ਪਦ ਵਿਖੇ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
Through silent prayer, one merges in the Suny (Lord)
ਸੁੰਨਿਸਮਾਧਿਸਮਾਇਆਪੁਗਵਾਇਆ।
('ਸੁੰਨ ਸਮਾਧ'=) ਨਿਵਾਤ ਦੀਪਵਤ ਚਿਤ ਹੋਕੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪ ਭੁਲਾਇਆ ਹੈ।
And in that perfect mental tranquillity egoism is done away with.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਪਿਰਮੁਚਖਾਇਨਿਜਘਰੁਛਾਇਆ।
(ਪਰ) ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਲੋਕ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਰਸ ਨੂੰ ਚੱਖਕੇ ਸ੍ਵੈਸਰੂਪ ਵਿਖੇ ਛਾਇ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
The gurmukhs drink from the cup of love and establish themselves in their own real self.
ਗੁਰਸਿਖਿਸੰਧਿਮਿਲਾਇਪੂਰਾਪਾਇਆ।੭।
ਗੁਰੂ ਅਤੇ ਸਿਖ ਦੀ ਮਿਲੌਣੀ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਣ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਪੂਰਣ (ਪ੍ਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ) ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
Meeting the Guru, the Sikh achieves the perfect completeness.

ਜੋਤੀਜੋਤਿਜਗਾਇਦੀਵਾਬਾਲਿਆ।
(ਗੁਰੂ ਸਿੱਖ ਦੀ ਸੰਧਿ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟਾਂਤ ਹੈ, ਜਿਕੁਰ ਦੀਵੇ ਤੋਂ) ਦੀਵਾ ਜਗਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤਿਵੇਂ) ਜੋਤ ਤੋਂ ਜੋਤ ਜਗਦੀ ਹੈ।
As the lamp is lit from the flame of another lamp;
ਚੰਦਨਵਾਸੁਨਿਵਾਸੁਵਣਸਪਤਿਫਾਲਿਆ।
(ਪੁਨਾ:-ਜਿੱਕੁਰ) ਬਨਸਪਤੀ ਚੰਦਨ ਦੀ ਵਾਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੇ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਨਾਲ (ਚੰਦਨ ਰੂਪ) ਫੈਲਦੀ ਹੈ।
As sandal's fragrance makes the whole vegetation fragrant
ਸਲਲੈਸਲਲਿਸੰਜੋਗੁਤ੍ਰਿਬੇਣੀਚਾਲਿਆ।
(ਪੁਨਾ:-ਜਿੱਕੁਰ) ਪਾਣੀ (ਗੰਗਾ, ਜਮਨਾ, ਸੁਰਸਤੀ ਦੇ) ਪਾਣੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਕੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਬੇਣੀ ਰੂਪ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
As the water mixing with water acquires the status of trivevi(the confluence of three rivers - Gatiga; Yamuna and Sarasvati);
ਪਵਣੈਪਵਣੁਸਮਾਇਅਨਹਦੁਭਾਲਿਆ।
(ਪੁਨਾ:ਜਿੱਕੁਰ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ) ਪੌਣ ਪੌਣ ਵਿਚ ਸਮਾਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ (ਯਾ ਜਿੱਕੂੰ) ਅਨਹਦ ਸ਼ਬਦਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹੈ।
As air after meeting the vital air becomes unstruck melody;
ਹੀਰੈਹੀਰਾਬੇਧਿਪਰੋਇਦਿਖਾਲਿਆ।
(ਪੁਨਾ: ਜਿੱਕੂੰ) ਹੀਰਾ ਹੀਰੇ ਵਿੰਨ੍ਹਕੇ (ਮਾਲਾ ਵਿਚ) ਪ੍ਰੋ ਦਿਖਾਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
As a diamond being perforated by another diamond gets stringed into a necklace;
ਪਥਰੁਪਾਰਸੁਹੋਇਪਾਰਸੁਪਾਲਿਆ।
(ਪੁਨਾ: ਜਿੱਕੂੰ) ਪਾਰਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਕੇ ਪੱਥਰ ਪਾਰਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
A stone by becoming the philosopher's stone performs its feat and
ਅਨਲਪੰਖਿਪੁਤੁਹੋਇਪਿਤਾਸਮ੍ਹਾਲਿਆ।
(ਪੁਨਾ: ਜਿੱਕੂੰ) ਅਨਲ ਪੰਖੀ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤ (ਅਕਾਸ਼ ਵਿਚ) ਜੰਮਕੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਮ੍ਹਾਲ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ ਬਿੰਦੀ ਸੰਤਾਨ ਹੋਕੇ ਨਾਦੀ ਪੁੱਤ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
As an anil bird getting birth in the sky promotes the work of its father;
ਬ੍ਰਹਮੈਬ੍ਰਹਮੁਮਿਲਾਇਸਹਜਿਸੁਖਾਲਿਆ।੮।
(ਪੁਨਾ: ਐਉਂ ਜਿਕੂੰ) ਸਹਿਜ ਸੁਖਾਲੇ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਨੂੰ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਮਿਲ ਪਿਆ (ਕਹੀਏ)।
Likewise the Guru making the Sikh meet the Lord establishes him in the equipoise.

ਕੇਵਡੁਇਕੁਕਵਾਉਪਸਾਉਕਰਾਇਆ।
(ਉਹ) ਇਕ ਵਾਕ ਕਿੱਡਾਕੁ ਹੈ (ਜਿਸ ਤੋਂ) ਪਸਾਰਾ ਪਸਾਰਿਆ ਹੈ?
How great is His one vibration which has created the whole expanse of the world!
ਕੇਵਡੁਕੰਡਾਤੋਲੁਤੋਲਿਤੁਲਾਇਆ।
ਕਿੱਡਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਤੋਲਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਕੰਡਾ ਹੈ (ਜਿਸ ਪਰ) ਤੋਲ ਤੋਲਿਆ ਹੈ?
How big is His weighing hook that it has sustained the whole creation!
ਕਰਿਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡਕਰੋੜਿਕਵਾਉਵਧਾਇਆ।
ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨਾਲ ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡਾਂ ਦਾ ਵਾਧਾ ਵਧਾਇਆ ਹੈ
Creating crores of universes He has spread around His power of speech.
ਲਖਲਖਧਰਤਿਅਗਾਸਿਅਧਰਧਰਾਇਆ।
ਲੱਖਾਂ ਧਰਤੀਆਂ ਨਿਰਾਸਰੇ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਅਕਾਸ਼ਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਧਰੀਆਂ ਹਨ।
Lakhs of earths and skies He kept hanging without support.
ਪਉਣੁਪਾਣੀਬੈਸੰਤਰੁਲਖਉਪਾਇਆ।
ਲੱਖਾਂ(=ਅਮਿੱਤ) ਪੌਣ, ਪਾਣੀ, ਅਗਨੀ ਉਤਪਤ ਕੀਤੇ ਹਨ।
Million types of airs, waters and fires He created.
ਲਖਚਉਰਾਸੀਹਜੋਨਿਖੇਲੁਰਚਾਇਆ।
ਚੁਰਾਸੀ ਲੱਖ ਜੂਨ ਦਾ ਖੇਲ ਰਚਾਇਆ ਹੈ।
He created the game of eighty four lakhs of species.
ਜੋਨਿਜੋਨਿਜੀਅਜੰਤਅੰਤੁਨਪਾਇਆ।
ਜੂਨ ਜੂਨ ਵਿਚ ਹੋਰ ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਹਨ (ਜੈਸੇ ਕੁੱਤੇ ਪਰ ਚਿਚੜ) ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
No end is known of the creatures of even one species.
ਸਿਰਿਸਿਰਿਲੇਖੁਲਿਖਾਇਅਲੇਖੁਧਿਆਇਆ।੯।
ਸਭ ਸਿਰਾਂ ਪਰ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਲੇਖ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੈ, (ਪਰ ਆਪ) ਅਲੇਖ ਹੈ (ਅਸਾਂ ਓਸ ਨੂੰ) ਧਿਆਇਆ ਹੈ।
He has engraved writ on the forehead of all so that they all meditate upon the Lord who is beyond writ.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਸਚਾਨਾਉਆਖਿਸੁਣਾਇਆ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਆਖਕੇ ਸੱਚਾ ਨਾਮ ਸੁਣਾ ਦਿਤਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਜਾਪ ਕਰੋ, ਜਿਹਾਕੁ ਜਪੁਜੀ ਦੇ ਮੁੱਢ ਵਿਖੇ ਹੈ)।
The true Guru has recited (to the disciples) the true name.
ਗੁਰਮੂਰਤਿਸਚੁਥਾਉਧਿਆਨੁਧਰਾਇਆ।
ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਮੂਰਤੀ ਸੱਚਾ ਥਾਉਂ ਹੈ ਧ੍ਯਾਨ ਧਾਰਨ ਲਈ।
Gurmurati,the word of the Guru is the real object to meditate upon.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਅਸਰਾਉਸਚਿਸੁਹਾਇਆ।
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਦਾ ਆਸਸ਼੍ਰਯ ਸੱਚਾ ਹੈ ਅਰ ਸੁਭਾਯਮਾਨ ਹੈ।
The holy congregation is such a refuge where the truth adorns the place.
ਦਰਗਹਸਚੁਨਿਆਉਹੁਕਮੁਚਲਾਇਆ।
ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਖੇ ਸੱਚਾ ਨਿਆਉਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਉਥੇ ਇਕੋ) ਹੁਕਮ ਚੱਲਦਾ ਹੈ (“ਖਰੇ ਖਜਾਨੈ ਪਾਈਅਹਿ ਖੋਟੇ ਸਟੀਅਹਿ ਬਾਹਰਵਾਰਿ”)।
In the court of the true justice, the order of the Lord prevails.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸਚੁਗਿਰਾਉਸਬਦਵਸਾਇਆ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ('ਗਿਰਾਉਂ') ਗ੍ਰਾਮ ਸੱਚਾ ਹੈ ਉਥੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦਾ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਹੈ (“ਨੀਕੀ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਾਨੀ॥ ਰਹਾਉ॥ ਪਹਰ ਮੂਰਤ ਪਲ ਗਾਵਤ ਗਾਵਤ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਵਖਾਨੀ॥ “ ਇਹ ਗਿਰਾਉਂ ਕਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ)?
The village (abode) of the Gurmukhs is the truth which has been habitated with the Word (Sabad).
ਮਿਟਿਆਗਰਬੁਗੁਆਉਗਰੀਬੀਛਾਇਆ।
ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਗਰਬ ਗੁਆਕੇ ਗਰੀਬੀ ਨੂੰ (ਰਿਦੇ ਵਿਖੇ) ਵਸਾਇਆ ਹੈ।
The ego is decimated there and the (pleasure giving) shade of humility is obtained there.
ਗੁਰਮਤਿਸਚੁਹਿਆਉਅਜਰੁਜਰਾਇਆ।
(ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ('ਮਤਿ') ਸਿੱਖਯਾ ਧਾਰੀ ਹੈ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਰਿਦਾ ਸੱਚਾ ਹੈ ਅਰ ਅਜਰ ਨੂੰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਜਰ ਲੀਤਾ ਹੈ।
Through the wisdom of Guru (Gurmati) the unbearable truth is instilled into the heart.
ਤਿਸੁਬਲਿਹਾਰੈਜਾਉਸੁਭਾਣਾਭਾਇਆ।੧੦।
(ਇਸੇ ਕਾਰਨ) ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਥੋਂ ਵਾਰਨੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ (ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ) ਭਾਣਾ ਚੰਗਾ ਲਗਦਾ ਹੈ।
I am sacrifice unto him who loves the Will of the Lord.

ਸਚੀਖਸਮਰਜਾਇਭਾਣਾਭਾਵਣਾ।
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੀ ਆਗ੍ਯਾ (ਉਹ) ਸੱਚੀ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਭਾਣੇ ਨੂੰ ਪਸਿੰਦ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
Gurmukhs accept the will of that Lord as truth and they love His will.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਪੈਰੀਪਾਇਆਪੁਗਵਾਵਣਾ।
(ਉਹ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ) ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਦੀ ਚਰਨੀਂ ਡੇਗਕੇ ਆਪਾ ਭਾਵ ਗੁਆ ਦੇਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
Bowing at the feet of the true Guru, they shed their sense of ego.
ਗੁਰਚੇਲਾਪਰਚਾਇਮਨੁਪਤੀਆਵਣਾ।
ਸਿੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ (ਪਹਿਲੇ ਸੇਵਾ ਨਾਲ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਮੰਨਕੇ ਜਦ) ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਫੇਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ) ਮਨ ਬੀ ਪਤੀਜਦਾ ਹੈ।
As disciples, they please the Guru and the heart of the Gum becomes happy.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸਹਜਿਸੁਭਾਇਨਅਲਖਲਖਾਵਣਾ।
(ਫੇਰ ਸਿੱਖ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਸਹਿਜ ਸੁਭਾਵ ਹੀ ਅਲਖ ਨੂੰ ਲਖ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
The gurmukh realises the imperceptible Lord spontaneously.
ਗੁਰਸਿਖਤਿਲਨਤਮਾਇਕਾਰਕਮਾਵਣਾ।
ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸਿੱਖ ਤਿਲ ਜਿੰਨਾ ਬੀ ਨਾ ਰੱਖਕੇ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
The Sikh of Guru has no greed at all and he earns his livelihood by the labour of his hands.
ਸਬਦਸੁਰਤਿਲਿਵਲਾਇਹੁਕਮੁਮਨਾਵਣਾ।
ਸ਼ਬਦ ਸੁਰਤ ਵਿਖੇ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਕੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਦਾ ਮੰਨਣਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ
Merging his consciousness into the word he obeys the commands of the Lord.
ਵੀਹਇਕੀਹਲੰਘਾਇਨਿਜਘਰਿਜਾਵਣਾ।
(ਉਹ) ਵੀਹ (ਰਜੋ, ਤਮੋ, ਦੀਆਂ ਤਾਰੀਆ-ਪੌੜੀਆਂ) ਲੰਘ ਕੇ ਇਕੀਹ (ਸਤੋ ਤੋਂ ਅੱਗੇ) ਜਾਕੇ ਸ੍ਵੈਸਰੂਪ ਵਿਚ ਪਹੁੰਚਦੇ ਹਨ।
Crossing beyond the worldly illusions he abides in his own real self.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸੁਖਫਲਪਾਇਸਹਜਿਸਮਾਵਣਾ।੧੧।
(ਐਉਂ) ਗੁਰਮੁਖ (ਹੋਕੇ) ਸੁਖ ਫਲ ਪਾਕੇ ਸਹਿਜ ਵਿਚ ਸਮਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
This way, the gurmukhs having attained the pleasure fruit absorb themselves in equipoise.
ਪਉੜੀ੧੨
ਇਕੁਗੁਰੂਇਕੁਸਿਖੁਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਜਾਣਿਆ।
ਇਕ ਗੁਰੂ (ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰੂ ਹਨ, ਅਰਥਾਤ ਸ਼ਿਰੋਮਣੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਹਨ, ਤਿਹਾ ਹੀ) ਇਕ ਸਿਖ (ਗੁਰੂ ਅੰਗਦ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਭੇਤ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰਨ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਗੁਰ ਸਿਖੀ ਦੀ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਘਟੀ ਹੈ) ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਹੈ।
Gurmukhs knew very well about the one Guru (Nanak) and one disciple (Guru Angad).
ਗੁਰਚੇਲਾਗੁਰਸਿਖੁਸਚਿਸਮਾਣਿਆ।
ਗੁਰ ਚੇਲਾ (ਕਹੋ) ਭਾਵੇਂ ਗੁਰ ਸਿਖ (ਕਹੋ ਭਾਵ ਇਕ ਰੂਪ ਹੋਕੇ) ਸੱਚ ਵਿਖੇ ਸਮਾ ਗਏ ਹਨ।
By becoming the true Sikh of the Guru, this disciple virtually merged himself into the latter.
ਸੋਸਤਿਗੁਰਸੋਸਿਖੁਸਬਦੁਵਖਾਣਿਆ।
ਸੋਈ 'ਸਤਿਗੁਰ' (ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ) ਸੋਈ ਸਿਖ (ਅੰਗਦ ਜੀ) ਸ਼ਬਦ(ਰੂਪ ਦੇ) ਵਖਾਣ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ ਹਨ।
The true Guru and the disciple were identical (in spirit) and their Word was also one.
ਅਚਰਜਭੂਰਭਵਿਖਸਚੁਸੁਹਾਣਿਆ।
(ਅਚਰਜ ਰੂਪ) ਭੂਤ (ਕਾਲ ਵਿਚ ਸੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਅਤੇ) ਭਵਿੱਖਤ (ਵਿਚ ਭੀ) ਅਚਰਜ ਰੂਪ ਹੈ, ਸੱਚ (ਦੋਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਕਾਲਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ) ਪ੍ਯਾਰਾ ਲਗਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ ਕਦੇ ਨਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ)।
This is the wonder of the past and the future that they (both) loved the truth.
ਲੇਖੁਅਲੇਖੁਅਲਿਖੁਮਾਣੁਨਿਮਾਣਿਆ।
ਲੇਖੇ ਥੋਂ ਅਲੇਖ ਹਨ, ਨਿਮਾਣਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਮਾਣ ਅਲੇਖ ਹਨ, (ਅਥਵਾ ਨਿਮਾਣਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਮਾਣ ਅਲਿੱਖ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਲਿਖਤ ਵਿਖੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਆ ਸਕਦੇ)।
They were beyond all accounts and were honour of the humble ones.
ਸਮਸਰਿਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁਵਿਖੁਨਆਵਣਜਾਣਿਆ।
(ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਖ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਹੈ; ਆਵਾਗਵਨ ਵਿਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ।
For them, the nectar and poison were the same and they had got liberated from the cycle of transmigration
ਨੀਸਾਣਾਹੋਇਲਿਖੁਹਦਨੀਸਾਣਿਆ।
(ਜੋ) ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਹੋਕੇ (ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਜਸ) ਲਿਖਦੇ (ਅਰਥਾਤ ਧਾਰਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ 'ਹਦ ਨੀਸਾਣਿਆ' ਕਹੀਏ) ਅਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ ਚਾਰ ਕੁੰਟਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਵਿਦਤ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ)।
Recorded as the model of special virtues, they are known as the extremely honourable ones.
ਗੁਰਸਿਖਹੁਗੁਰਸਿਖੁਹੋਇਹੈਰਾਣਿਆ।੧੨।
ਸਿਖ ਥੋਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਬਣ ਜਾਣਾ (ਵੇਖਕੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਸਿੱਖ ਹੈਰਾਨ ਹੋ ਗਏ।
The wonderful fact is that the sikh of the Guru became the Guru.
ਪਉੜੀ੧੩
ਪਿਰਮਪਿਆਲਾਪੂਰਿਅਪਿਓਪੀਆਵਣਾ।
ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਰੂਪੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਲਾ ਲਬਾਲਬ (ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ) ਪੀਤਾ ਹੈ,
Gurmukhs drink the unbearable Cup of love filled to the brims and being in the presence of the all;
ਮਹਰਮੁਹਕੁਹਜੂਰਿਅਲਖੁਲਖਾਵਣਾ।
ਓਹ ਹਰ ਜਗਹ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਖੁਦਾ ਦੇ 'ਮਹਿਰਮ' ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ ਅਰ ਅਲਖ ਨੂੰ ਲਖ ਗਏ ਹਨ।
Pervading Lord they perceive the imperceptible.
ਘਟਅਵਘਟਭਰਪੂਰਿਰਿਦੈਸਮਾਵਣਾ।
(ਜਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ) ਕਿ ਘਟਾਂ ਤੇ ਅਵਘਟਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਪੂਰਨ ਹੋਕੇ ਰਿਦੇ ਵਿਖੇ ਸਮਾਇ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
The one who resides in all hearts is dwelling in their hearts.
ਬੀਅਹੁਹੋਇਅੰਗੂਰੁਸੁਫਲਿਸਮਾਵਣਾ।
(ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਿਦੇ ਦੇ ਵਿਖੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਸ਼ਬਦ) ਬੀਜ ਦਾ ਅੰਗੂਰ ਨਿਕਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹਨੂੰ 'ਸਫਲ' (ਕਹੀਏ ਗ੍ਯਾਨ ਵੈਰਾਗ ਦੇ) ਫਲ ਲਗਦੇ ਹਨ।
The love creeper of their's has become full of fruits as the seedling of grape turns out to be fruitful vine.
ਬਾਵਨਹੋਇਠਰੂਰਮਹਿਮਹਿਕਾਵਣਾ।
(ਉਹ) ਬਾਵਨ ਚੰਦਨ ਵਾਂਗੂੰ ਸੀਤਲ ਹੋਕੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਗੰਧਿਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
Becoming sandal, they provide coolness to one and all.
ਚੰਦਨਚੰਦਕਪੂਰਮੇਲਿਮਿਲਾਵਣਾ।
ਚੰਦਨ, ਚੰਦ੍ਰ੍ਰਮਾਂ, ਤੇ ਕਪੂਰ (ਇਹ ਤਿੰਨ ਸੀਤਲ ਹਨ ਪ੍ਰੰਤੂ) ('ਨ ਮੇਲ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਾ') ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਬਰੋਬਰੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ।
Their cool is like the coolness of sandal, moon, and camphor.
ਸਸੀਅਰਅੰਦਰਿਸੂਰਤਪਤਿਬੁਝਾਵਣਾ।
ਸੂਰਜ ਦੀ ਤਪਤ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਦ੍ਰਮਾਂ ਵਾਂਗੂ ਬੁਝਾ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਤਪਤ ਦਾ ਖੁਰਾ ਖੋਜ ਉਡਾ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ)।
Associating the sun (rajas) with the moon (sattv) they assuage its heat.
ਚਰਣਕਵਲਦੀਧੂਰਿਮਸਤਕਿਲਾਵਣਾ।
(ਅਜਿਹੇ) ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨ ਧੂੜ ਮੱਥੇ ਪਰ ਲਾਵਣੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ। (ਪ੍ਰਮਾਣ-'ਤੇਰਿਆ ਸੰਤਾ ਜਾਚਉ ਚਰਣ ਰੇਨ॥ ਲੇ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਲਾਵਉ ਕਰਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਦੇਨ॥')
They put on their forehead the dust of the lotus feet
ਕਾਰਣਲਖਅੰਕੂਰਕਰਣੁਕਰਾਵਣਾ।
(੯) (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ) ਲੱਖਾਂ ਅੰਗੂਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਕਾਰਣ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਕਾਰਜ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਧੂੜੀ, ਮਿੱਟੀ ਬਾਝ ਬੀਜ ਦਾ ਉੱਗਣਾ ਅਸੰਭਵ ਹੈ)।
And come to know the creator as the root cause of all the causes.
ਵਜਨਿਅਨਹਦਤੂਰਜੋਤਿਜਗਾਵਣਾ।੧੩।
(੧੦) ਵੱਜ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਨਾਹਦ ਵਾਜੇ (ਤੇ) ਜਾਗ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਜੋਤਿ (ਪ੍ਯਾਰੇ ਦੀ)।
When flame (of knowledge) flashes in their heart, the unstruck melody starts ringing.
ਪਉੜੀ੧੪
ਇਕੁਕਵਾਉਅਤੋਲੁਕੁਦਰਤਿਜਾਣੀਐ।
ਇਕ ਵਾਕ੍ਯ ਤੋਲਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਹਰਾ ਹੈ (ਤਿਵੇਂ ਹੀ) ਕੁਦਰਤ (ਨੂੰ ਬੀ) ਅਤੋਲ ਹੀ ਜਾਣੀਏਂ (ਜੋ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਣੀ ਹੈ)।
The power of the one vibration of the Lord transcends all limits.
ਓਅੰਕਾਰੁਅਬੋਲੁਚੋਜਵਿਡਾਣੀਐ।
(ਇਸ ਦਾ ਕਾਰਕ) 'ਓਅੰਕਾਰ' ਹੈ, ਬਚਨ ਥੋਂ ਬਾਹਰਾ ਹੈ, (ਉਸਦੇ) ਚੋਜ ਅਚਰਜ ਰੂਪ ਹਨ, (ਓਹ ਕੀ ਹਨ?)
The wonder and power of Oankft is indescribable.
ਲਖਦਰੀਆਵਅਲੋਲੁਪਾਣੀਆਣੀਐ।
ਲੱਖਾਂ ਦਰੀਆ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਪਾਣੀ ਲਿਆਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ। (ਭਾਵ ਕਈ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਿਖ ਨਾਮ ਰੂਪ ਅਚੰਚਲ ਜਲ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਲ ਭਰੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ)।
It is with His support that millions of rivers carrying life water go on flowing.
ਹੀਰੇਲਾਲਅਮੋਲੁਗੁਰਸਿਖਜਾਣੀਐ।
ਅਮੋਲਕ ਹੀਰੇ ਲਾਲ ਰੂਪ ਬੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਿਖ ਹਨ, (ਓਹ ਕਿਹੇ ਹਨ?)
In His creation, the gurmukhs are known as invaluable diamonds and rubies
ਗੁਰਮਤਿਅਚਲਅਡੋਲਪਤਿਪਰਵਾਣੀਐ।
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਖ੍ਯਾ ਲੈ ਕੇ (ਮਨ ਬਾਣੀ ਕਰਕੇ) ਅਚੱਲ ਤੇ ਅਡੋਲ ਹੋ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ (ਇਸੇ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ) ਪਤ ਪ੍ਰਵਾਣ ਪਈ ਹੈ।
And they remain steadfast in gurmati and are accepted with honour in the court of the Lord.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਪੰਥੁਨਿਰੋਲੁਸਚੁਸੁਹਾਣੀਐ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਰਗ ਨਿਰੋਲ (ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ ਚੋਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਰੌਲੇ ਥੋਂ ਰਹਿਤ) ਹੈ, ਸਚ ਸੁਹਣਾ ਲਗਦਾ ਹੈ (ਐਸਾ ਪੰਥ ਹੈ)।
The path of the gurmukhs is straight and clear and they reflect the truth.
ਸਾਇਰਲਖਢੰਢੋਲਸਬਦੁਨੀਸਾਣੀਐ।
ਕਵੀ (ਸਾਈਂ ਲੋਕ) ਲੱਖਾਂ ਹੀ ਢੂੰਡੇ (ਪਰ) ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਨੀਸਾਣੀ (ਵਾਲੇ ਪੂਰਨ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ; ਜੋ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਹਨ)।
Myriad poets desire to know the mystery of His Word.
ਚਰਣਕਵਲਰਜਘੋਲਿਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਵਾਣੀਐ।
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨ ਕਵਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜੀ ਘੋਲੀ ਹੋਈ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਵਰਗੀ ਹੈ।
The gurmukhs have quaffed the dust of the feet of Gum like amrit.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਪੀਤਾਰਜਿਅਕਥਕਹਾਣੀਐ।੧੪।
(੯) ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਨੇ (ਇਸ ਨੂੰ) ਰੱਜ ਕੇ ਪੀਤਾ ਹੈ, (ਇਸਦੀ) ਕਥਾ ਅਕੱਥ ਹੈ।
This tale is also ineffable.
ਪਉੜੀ੧੫
ਕਾਦਰੁਨੋਕੁਰਬਾਣੁਕੀਮਨਜਾਣੀਐ।
(ਪਰਪੰਚ ਦੇ) ਕਰਤਾ ਤੋਂ ਕੁਰਬਾਣ (ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਾਂ ਜਿਸਦੀ) ਕੀਮਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਈ ਜਾਂਦੀ।
I am sacrifice unto that creator whose value cannot be estimated.
ਕੇਵਡੁਵਡਾਹਾਣੁਆਖਿਵਖਾਣੀਐ।
ਕੇਡੀਕੁ ਵੱਡੀ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਉਮਰ ਆਖਕੇ ਵਖਾਣੀਏ (“ਕੇਵਡੁ ਵਡਾ ਡੀਠਾ ਹੋਇ”)।
How could anybody tell how old is He?
ਕੇਵਡੁਆਖਾਤਾਣੁਮਾਣੁਨਿਮਾਣੀਐ।
ਕਿੱਡਾਕੁ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਬਲ ਦੱਸੀਏ (ਹਾਂ, ਇਹ ਦੱਸਦੇ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਉਹ) ਨਿਮਾਣਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਣ ਹੈ।
What could I tell about the powers of theLord who enhances the honour of the humble ones.
ਲਖਜਿਮੀਅਸਮਾਣੁਤਿਲੁਨਤੁਲਾਣੀਐ।
ਲੱਖਾਂ ਧਰਤੀ ਅਕਾਸ਼ ਉਸਦੇ ਇਕ ਤਿਲ ਦੇ ਤੋਲ ਦੇ ਸਮਾਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ।
Myriads of earths and skies are not equal to an iota of His.
ਕੁਦਰਤਿਲਖਜਹਾਨੁਹੋਇਹੈਰਾਣੀਐ।
ਕੁਦਰਤ (ਰਚਨਾ) ਵਿਚ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਜਹਾਨ ਹਨ, (ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ) ਹੈਰਾਨ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਏ
Millions of universes are wonderstruck to see His power.
ਸੁਲਤਾਨਾਸੁਲਤਾਨਹੁਕਮੁਨੀਸਾਣੀਐ।
(ਉਹ ਕਰਤਾ) ਸੁਲਤਾਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਸੁਲਤਾਨ ਹੈ, ਹੁਕਮ (ਉਸਦਾ) ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਹੈ।
He is king of the kings and His ordinance is obvious.
ਲਖਸਾਇਰਨੈਸਾਣਬੂੰਦਸਮਾਣੀਐ।
ਲੱਖਾਂ ਸਮੁੰਦ੍ਰ੍ਰ ਅਤੇ ਨਦੀਆਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਇਕ ਬੂੰਦ ਦੇ ਸਾਮਾਨ ਹਨ।
Millions of oceans subsume in His one drop.
ਕੂੜਅਖਾਣਵਖਾਣਅਕਥਕਹਾਣੀਐ।੧੫।
(ਜਿਹੜੇ ਆਖਣ ਭਈ ਐਡਾ ਹੈ) ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਥਨ ਕੂੜੇ ਵਖ੍ਯਾਨ ਹਨ, (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਸ ਦੀ) ਕਹਾਣੀ ਅਕੱਥ ਹੈ।
Explanations and elaborations pertaining to Him are incomplete (and fake) because His story is ineffable.
ਪਉੜੀ੧੬
ਚਲਣੁਹੁਕਮੁਰਜਾਇਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਜਾਣਿਆ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਜਾਣਿਆਂ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਰਜਾਈ (ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ) ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਚੱਲਣਾ ਹੈ (ਅਥਵਾ ਚੱਲਣਾ ਹੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਹੈ)।
Gurmukhs know well how to move according to the command, hukam of the Lord.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਪੰਥਿਚਲਾਇਚਲਣੁਭਾਣਿਆ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਨੇ (ਏਹੋ) ਪੰਥ ਤੋਰਿਆ ਹੈ (ਕਿ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ) ਭਾਣੇ ਵਿਖੇ ਚੱਲਣਾ (ਹੀ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਹੈ)।
Gurmukh has ordained that community (panth), who moves in the will of Lord.
ਸਿਦਕੁਸਬੂਰੀਪਾਇਕਰਿਸੁਕਰਾਣਿਆ।
ਭਰੋਸਾ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਤੋਖ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਧੰਨਵਾਦ ਕਰਨਾ (ਹੀ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਹੈ)।
Becoming contented and true to faith they gratefully thank the Lord.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਅਲਖੁਲਖਾਇਚੋਜਵਿਡਾਣਿਆ।
ਐਉਂ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਲਖ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ; (ਇਹ) ਵੱਡਾ ਅਸਚਰਜ ਕੌਤਕ ਹੈ (ਕਿ ਫਿਰ ਬੀ)
Gurmukhs perceive His wondrous sport.
ਵਰਤਣਬਾਲਸੁਭਾਇਆਦਿਵਖਾਣਿਆ।
ਬਾਲਕਾਂ ਵਤ ਸੁਭਾਵ ਰਖਦੇ ਹਨ (ਇਹ) ਆਦ ਥੋਂ ਵਖਾਣ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਜਮਾਂਦਰੂ ਸੁਭਾਉ ਹੈ, ਨਿਰਮਾਨ ਬਾਲ ਵਤ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਅਥਵਾ ਹਰਖ ਸੋਗ ਤੋਂ ਅਤੀਤ ਹਨ।
They behave innocently like children and eulogize the primaeval Lord.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਲਿਵਲਾਇਸਚੁਸੁਹਾਣਿਆ।
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਖੇ 'ਲਿਵ' (ਪ੍ਰੀਤ) ਲਾਈ ਰਖਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਸੱਚ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਹਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
They merge their consciousness in the holy congregation and truth do they love.
ਜੀਵਨਮੁਕਤਿਕਰਾਇਸਬਦੁਸਿਞਾਣਿਆ।
ਜੀਵਨ ਮੁਕਤ ਹੋਕੇ ਸਬਦ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਛਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ।
Identifying the word they get liberated and
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਆਪੁਗਵਾਇਆਪੁਪਛਾਣਿਆ।੧੬।
ਆਪਾ ਭਾਵ ਗਵਾਕੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਪਛਾਣ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, (ਅਰ ਸੱਚ ਊੂਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਹਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸੱਚ ਕਹਿ ਤਾਂ ਬਥੇਰੇ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਸੱਚ ਸੁਣਕੇ ਸੁਹਾਵਣਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਲਗਦਾ ਹੈ)।
Loosing their sense of ego they perceive their inner selves.
ਪਉੜੀ੧੭
ਅਬਿਗਤਿਗਤਿਅਸਗਾਹਆਖਿਵਖਾਣੀਐ।
ਅਬਿਗਤ ਅਤੇ ਅਥਾਹ ਗਤੀ ਕਹਿਕੇ ਵਖਾਣੀਦੀ ਹੈ।
The dynamism of the Guru is unmanifest and unfathomable.
ਗਹਰਿਗੰਭੀਰਅਥਾਹਹਾਥਿਨਆਣੀਐ।
ਡੂੰਘੀ ਤੇ ਗੰਭੀਰ ਹੈ, ਹਾਥ ਕਿਸੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਇਆ।
It is so deep and sublime that its extent cannot be known.
ਬੂੰਦਲਖਪਰਵਾਹਹੁਲੜਵਾਣੀਐ।
ਇਕ ਬੂੰਦ ਥੋਂ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਪਰਵਾਹ ਤੇ ਹੜ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਹਾਂ ਨਦ ਬਣਦੇ ਹਨ।
As from each drop become many tumultuous rivulets,
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸਿਫਤਿਸਲਾਹਅਕਥਕਹਾਣੀਐ।
(ਇਸ ਲਈ) ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫਤ ਸ਼ਲਾਘਾ ਦੀ ਅਕੱਥ ਕਹਾਣੀ ਹੈ।
Likewise the ever-growing glory of gurmukhs becomes ineffable.
ਪਾਰਾਵਾਰੁਨਰਾਹੁਬਿਅੰਤੁਸੁਹਾਣੀਐ।
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਾਹ ਦਾ ਪਾਰਾਵਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ, ਬਿਅੰਤ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸੁਭਾਇਮਾਨ ਹੈ।
His shores near and far cannot be known and He is adorned in infinite ways.
ਲਉਬਾਲੀਦਰਗਾਹਨਆਵਣਜਾਣੀਐ।
ਦਰਗਾਹ' (ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ) ਬੇਪਰਵਾਹ ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣ ਤੋਂ ਰਹਿਤ ਹੈ।
The comings and goings cease after entering the court of the Lord i.e. one becomes liberated from the bondage of transmigration.
ਵਡਾਵੇਪਰਵਾਹੁਤਾਣੁਨਿਤਾਣੀਐ।
ਵਡਾ ਬੇਪਰਵਾਹ ਹੈ, ਨਿਤਾਣਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਤਾਣ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
The true Guru is totally carefree yet He is the power of the powerless ones.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਸਚੇਵਾਹੁਹੋਇਹੈਰਾਣੀਐ।੧੭।
(ਅਜਿਹੇ) ਸੱਚੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਧੰਨ ਹਨ (ਵਡੇ ਵਡੇ ਲੋਕ) ਹੈਰਾਣ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਕਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਵੱਡੇ ਦਿਆਲੂ ਤੇ ਨਿਤਾਣਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਕਲ੍ਯਾਣ ਹਾਰੇ ਹਨ)।
Blessed is the true Guru, seeing whom all feel wonderstruck
ਪਉੜੀ੧੮
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਸਚਖੰਡੁਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਜਾਈਐ।
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਸੱਚਾ ਖੰਡ ਹੈ (ਉਥੇ) ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਲੋਕ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਉਥੇ ਜਾਕੇ ਕੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ?)।
Holy congregation is the abode of truth where gurmukhs go to reside.
ਸਚੁਨਾਉਬਲਵੰਡੁਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਧਿਆਈਐ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖ (ਉਥੇ) ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸੱਚਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦੇ ਹਨ।
Gurmukhs adore the grand and powerful true name (of the Lord).
ਪਰਮਜੋਤਿਪਰਚੰਡੁਜੁਗਤਿਜਗਾਈਐ।
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਜੁਗਤ) ਨਾਲ (ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ) ਪਰਮ ਜੋਤ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਜਗਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਭਾਵ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਰੂਪ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਰਿਦੇ ਵਿਖੇ ਚਿੰਤਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ)।
There skillfully they enhance their inner flame (of knowledge).
ਸੋਧਿਡਿਠਾਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡੁਲਵੈਨਲਾਈਐ।
(ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਸਾਰੇ) ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾਂਡ ਵਿਖੇ (ਸੋਧ) ਵਿਚਾਰਕੇ ਡਿੱਠਾ ਹੈ, (ਉਸਦੇ ਸਮਾਨ) ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ।
Having seen the whole universe I have found that none reaches His grandeur.
ਤਿਸੁਨਾਹੀਜਮਡੰਡੁਸਰਣਿਸਮਾਈਐ।
ਐਸੇ (ਸਤਿਸੰਗੀ) ਨੂੰ ਜਮ ਦੰਡ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸ਼ਰਣ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ) ਵਿਚ ਸਮਾਇਆ ਹੈ।
He who has come to the shelter of the holy congregation has no longer the fear of death.
ਘੋਰਪਾਪਕਰਿਖੰਡੁਨਰਕਿਨਪਾਈਐ।
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਘੋਰ ਪਾਪ ਖੰਡੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਉਹ) ਨਰਕਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ; (ਪਰੰਤੂ ਕੂੜੇ ਲੋਕ ਉਥੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਟਿਕ ਸਕਦੇ, ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟਾਂਤ-ਜਿੱਕੁਰ)
Even the horrible sins are decimated and one escapes going to the hell.
ਚਾਵਲਅੰਦਰਿਵੰਡੁਉਬਰਿਜਾਈਐ।
ਚਾਵਲਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਵੰਡ (ਛੱਟਿਆਂ) ਉੱਭਰ ਆਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਕੱਢੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
As the rice comes out of husk, similarly whosoever goes to the holy congregation gets liberated.
ਸਚਹੁਸਚੁਅਖੰਡੁਕੂੜੁਛੁਡਾਈਐ।੧੮।
ਅਖੰਡ ਸੱਚ ਦੇ (ਭਾਵ ਸਤਿਸੰਗ ਦੇ) ਵਿਚੋਂ ਝੂਠੇ ਕੱਢੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
There, homogenous truth prevails and falsehood remains far behind.
ਪਉੜੀ੧੯
ਗੁਰਸਿਖਾਸਾਬਾਸਜਨਮੁਸਵਾਰਿਆ।
ਗੁਰਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਾਬਾਸ਼ ਹੈ (ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣਾ) ਜਨਮ ਸੁਵਾਰ ਲੀਤਾ ਹੈ।
Bravo to the Sikhs of Gum who have refined their lives.
ਗੁਰਸਿਖਾਂਰਹਰਾਸਿਗੁਰੂਪਿਆਰਿਆ।
ਗੁਰ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਰਸਤਾ ਸਿੱਧਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਯਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।
The right living of the Sikhs of the Guru is that they love the Guru.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸਾਸਿਗਿਰਾਸਿਨਾਉਚਿਤਾਰਿਆ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖ (ਹੋ ਕੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ਰ ਦੇ) ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਸ ਗਿਰਾਸ ਯਾਦ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।
Gurumukhs remember the name of the Lord with every breath and every morsel.
ਮਾਇਆਵਿਚਿਉਦਾਸੁਗਰਬੁਨਿਵਾਰਿਆ।
ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਉਦਾਸ ਰਹਿਕੇ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਦੂਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।
Epudiating pride they remain detached amidst maya.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਦਾਸਨਿਦਾਸਸੇਵਸੁਚਾਰਿਆ।
ਦਾਸਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਾਸ ਹੋਕੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਸੇਵਾ ਦਾ ਭਲਾ ਕੰਮ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।
Gurmukhs consider hemselves as the servant of the servants and service only is their true conduct.
ਵਰਤਨਿਆਸਨਿਰਾਸਸਬਦੁਵੀਚਾਰਿਆ।
ਆਸਾ ਵਿਚ (ਫੇਰ ਬੀ) ਨਿਰਾਸ ਹੀ ਵਰਤਨਗੇ ਅਰ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਵੀਚਾਰ ਕਰਨਗੇ।
Pondering upon the Word, they remain neutral towards hopes.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸਹਜਿਨਿਵਾਸੁਮਨਹਠਮਾਰਿਆ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਸਹਿਜ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ (ਕਿਸੇ ਬਾਤ ਵਿਚ) ਹਠ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਧਾਰਨਗੇ।
Eschewing stubbornness of mind, gurmukhs reside in equipoise.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਮਨਿਪਰਗਾਸੁਪਤਿਤਉਧਾਰਿਆ।੧੯।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ (ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ) ਦਾ ਪਰਗਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਏਗਾ (ਫੇਰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਥੋਂ) ਪਤਿਤ ਉਧਾਰ ਪਾਉਣਗੇ।
Enlightened of gurmukhs salvages many a fallen one.
ਪਉੜੀ੨੦
ਗੁਰਸਿਖਾਜੈਕਾਰੁਸਤਿਗੁਰਪਾਇਆ।
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਿਖਾਂ ਦੀ (ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ) ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ (ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੀ ਦਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ) ਪਾਇਆ ਹੈ, ਜਯ ਜਯ ਹੋਵੇ।
Those gurmukhs are acclaimed who have found the true Guru.
ਪਰਵਾਰੈਸਾਧਾਰੁਸਬਦੁਕਮਾਇਆ।
(ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਕਮਾਕੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਦਾ ਉਧਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।
Practising the Word, they have emancipated their whole families.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸਚੁਆਚਾਰੁਭਾਣਾਭਾਇਆ।
(ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ) ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦਾ) ਭਾਣਾ ਮਿੱਠਾ ਲਗਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ) ਕਰਨੀ ਸੱਚ ਦੀ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ।
Gurmukhs have the Will of God and they work according to the truth.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਮੋਖਦੁਆਰੁਆਪਗਵਾਇਆ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਦਾ ਵਸੀਲਾ ਹਨ, (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਆਪਾ ਭਾਵ ਗਵਾ ਦਿਤਾ ਹੈ, (ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਰਵਾਜੇ ਨੇ ਅਪਨੇ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਕੰਧ ਰੂਪ ਹਊਮੈ ਕੱਢਕੇ ਰਾਹ ਖੋਲ੍ਹ ਦਿਤਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਡਾਟ ਦੇ ਆਸਰੇ ਖੜਾ ਹੈ)।
Eschewing ego, they obtain the door of liberation.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਪਰਉਪਕਾਰਮਨੁਸਮਝਾਇਆ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਪਰਉਪਕਾਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਇਹੋ) ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਕਿ ਨਿਰਾਸ ਤੇ ਨਿਸ਼ਕਾਮ ਰਹਿਕੇ ਉਪਕਾਰ ਕਰ)।
The gurmukhs have made the mind understand the principle of altruism.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸਚੁਆਧਾਰੁਸਚਿਸਮਾਇਆ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਸੱਚ ਦਾ ਆਸ਼੍ਰਯ ਲੈਕੇ ਸੱਚ ਵਿਖੇ ਸਮਾ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
The base of gurmukhs is truth and they (finally) get absorbd into truth.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਲੋਕਾਰੁਲੇਪੁਨਲਾਇਆ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਲੋਕ ਲੱਜਾ ਦਾ ਲੇਪ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਗਦਾ (ਭਾਵ ਲੋਕ ਲੱਜਾ ਛੱਡਕੇ) ਭਗਵੰਤ ਪਰਾਯਣ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਅਥਵਾ ਪੱਛਮੀ ਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿਖੇ ਲੰਕਾਰ ਲੋਈ ਦਾ ਵਾਚਕ ਹੈ, ਇਥੇ ਭਾਵ ਵਿਚ ਗੋਦੜੀ ਦਾ ਅਰਥ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਗੋਦੜੀ ਨੂੰ ਲੋਕਕ ਕਲੰਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਗਦਾ)।
Gurmukhs are not scared of public opinion
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਏਕੰਕਾਰੁਅਲਖੁਲਖਾਇਆ।੨੦।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਅਲਖ (ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣਾ) ਏਕੰਕਾਰ (ਸਰੂਪ) ਲਖਾ ਦਿਤਾ ਹੈ।
And this way they visualise that imperceptible Lord.
ਪਉੜੀ੨੧
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸਸੀਅਰਜੋਤਿਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਵਰਸਣਾ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਜੋਤ ਚੰਦ੍ਰ੍ਰਮਾਂ ਵਤ ਹੈ, (ਉਸ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ (ਨਾਮ) ਦੀ ਵਰਖਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
Touching the philosopher's stone in the form of gurmukh all the eight metals transform into gold i.e. all the people become pure.
ਅਸਟਧਾਤੁਇਕਧਾਤੁਪਾਰਸੁਪਰਸਣਾ।
(ਓਹ) ਪਾਰਸ (ਵਾਂਙੂ) ਪਰਸਕੇ ਅੱਠਾਂ ਧਾਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਕ ਧਾਤ (ਸੋਨਾ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ)।
Like the fragrance of sandal they permeate all the trees i.e. they adopt one and all as their own.
ਚੰਦਨਵਾਸੁਨਿਵਾਸੁਬਿਰਖਸੁਦਰਸਣਾ।
(ਗੁਰਮੁਖ) ਚੰਦਨ ਦੀ ਵਾਸ਼ਨਾ (ਵਾਸ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਕਹੀਏ) ਨਾਲ ਦੇ (ਬਿਰਛਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਆਪਣੇ ਵਰਗਾ (ਚੰਦਨ) ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ।
They are like Ganges in which all the rivers and rivulets merge and become full of vitality.
ਗੰਗਤਰੰਗਮਿਲਾਪੁਨਦੀਆਂਸਰਸਣਾ।
(ਗੁਰਮੁਖ) ਗੰਗਾ (ਵਾਂਙੂ ਆਪਣੇ) ਤਰੰਗਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਨਾਲ (ਹੋਰ) ਨਦੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ (ਆਪਣੇ) (ਜਿਹਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ)।
Gurmukhs re the swans of Manasamvar who are not perturbed by other cravings.
ਮਾਨਸਰੋਵਰਹੰਸਨਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾਤਰਸਣਾ।
ਮਾਨ ਸਰੋਵਰ ਦੇ ਹੰਸ (ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ) ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਤਰਸਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਭਾਵ ਇਧਰ ਮਹਾਤਮਾਂ ਲੋਕ ਭੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਨੂੰ ਤਰਸਦੇ ਹਨ)।
The Sikhs of the Guru are the paramharisas, the swans of the highest order
ਪਰਮਹੰਸਗੁਰਸਿਖਦਰਸਅਦਰਸਣਾ।
ਗੁਰ ਸਿੱਖ ਪਰਮ ਹੰਸ ਹਨ, (ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ) ਦਰਸ਼ਨ (ਓਹ ਲੋਚਦੇ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਆਪ) ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੇਂਦੇ ਅਥਵਾ ਸ਼ੀਸ਼ੇ ਵਤ ਸ਼ੁਧ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਪਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ)।
So do not mix up with ordinary ones and their sight is not easily available.
ਚਰਣਸਰਣਗੁਰਦੇਵਪਰਸਅਪਰਸਣਾ।
