ਸੋਰਠਿਮਹਲਾ੫ਘਰੁ੧ਚੌਤੁਕੇ॥
Sorat'h, Fifth Mahalaa, First House, Chau-Tukas:
सोरठि महला ५ घरु १ चौतुके ॥
ਗੁਰੁਗੋਵਿੰਦੁਸਲਾਹੀਐਭਾਈਮਨਿਤਨਿਹਿਰਦੈਧਾਰ॥
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮਨ ਵਿਚ, ਤਨ ਵਿਚ, ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ, (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ) ਟਿਕਾ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡੇ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ।
Praise the Guru, and the Lord of the Universe, O Siblings of Destiny; enshrine Him in your mind, body and heart.
गुरु गोविंदु सलाहीऐ भाई मनि तनि हिरदै धार ॥
ਸਾਚਾਸਾਹਿਬੁਮਨਿਵਸੈਭਾਈਏਹਾਕਰਣੀਸਾਰ॥
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਕਰਤੱਬ ਹੈ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਕਿ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਿਆ ਰਹੇ।
Let the True Lord and Master abide in your mind, O Siblings of Destiny; this is the most excellent way of life.
साचा साहिबु मनि वसै भाई एहा करणी सार ॥
ਜਿਤੁਤਨਿਨਾਮੁਨਊਪਜੈਭਾਈਸੇਤਨਹੋਏਛਾਰ॥
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਜਿਸ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪਰਗਟ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਉਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਗਏ ਸਮਝੋ।
Those bodies, in which the Name of the Lord does not well up, O Siblings of Destiny - those bodies are reduced to ashes.
जितु तनि नामु न ऊपजै भाई से तन होए छार ॥
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਕਉਵਾਰਿਆਭਾਈਜਿਨਏਕੰਕਾਰਅਧਾਰ॥੧॥
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਤੋਂ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਇੱਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ) ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ (ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ) ਹੈ ॥੧॥
I am a sacrifice to the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, O Siblings of Destiny; they take the Support of the One and Only Lord. ||1||
साधसंगति कउ वारिआ भाई जिन एकंकार अधार ॥१॥
ਸੋਈਸਚੁਅਰਾਧਣਾਭਾਈਜਿਸਤੇਸਭੁਕਿਛੁਹੋਇ॥
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਸ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਆਰਾਧਨਾ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਤੋਂ (ਜਗਤ ਦੀ) ਹਰੇਕ ਚੀਜ਼ ਹੋਂਦ ਵਿਚ ਆਈ ਹੈ।
So worship and adore that True Lord, O Siblings of Destiny; He alone does everything.
सोई सचु अराधणा भाई जिस ते सभु किछु होइ ॥
ਗੁਰਿਪੂਰੈਜਾਣਾਇਆਭਾਈਤਿਸੁਬਿਨੁਅਵਰੁਨਕੋਇ॥ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਹ) ਸਮਝ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਸ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ) ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ (ਪੂਜਣ-ਜੋਗ) ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ਰਹਾਉ॥
The Perfect Guru has taught me, O Siblings of Destiny, that without Him, there is no other at all. ||Pause||
गुरि पूरै जाणाइआ भाई तिसु बिनु अवरु न कोइ ॥ रहाउ ॥
ਨਾਮਵਿਹੂਣੇਪਚਿਮੁਏਭਾਈਗਣਤਨਜਾਇਗਣੀ॥
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਹਨਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਗਿਣੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ, ਜੇਹੜੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਵਾਂਜੇ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ) ਉਲਝ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤੇ ਮਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
Without the Naam, the Name of the Lord, they putrefy and die, O Siblings of Destiny; their numbers cannot be counted.
नाम विहूणे पचि मुए भाई गणत न जाइ गणी ॥
ਵਿਣੁਸਚਸੋਚਨਪਾਈਐਭਾਈਸਾਚਾਅਗਮਧਣੀ॥
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਦੇ ਨਾਮ) ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ। ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੀ (ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰਤਾ ਦਾ ਸੋਮਾ ਹੈ)।
Without Truth, purity cannot be achieved, O Siblings of Destiny; the Lord is true and unfathomable.
विणु सच सोच न पाईऐ भाई साचा अगम धणी ॥
ਆਵਣਜਾਣੁਨਚੁਕਈਭਾਈਝੂਠੀਦੁਨੀਮਣੀ॥
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ (ਦਾ ਗੇੜ) ਨਹੀਂ ਮੁੱਕਦਾ। ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਣ ਕੂੜਾ ਹੈ (ਇਹ ਮਾਣ ਤਾਂ ਲੈ ਡੁੱਬਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ)।
Coming and going do not end, O Siblings of Destiny; pride in worldly valuables is false.
आवण जाणु न चुकई भाई झूठी दुनी मणी ॥
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਕੋਟਿਉਧਾਰਦਾਭਾਈਦੇਨਾਵੈਏਕਕਣੀ॥੨॥
(ਦੂਜੇ ਪਾਸੇ) ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਇਕ ਕਣੀ ਹੀ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਬਚਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
The Gurmukh saves millions of people, O Siblings of Destiny, blessing them with even a particle of the Name. ||2||
गुरमुखि कोटि उधारदा भाई दे नावै एक कणी ॥२॥
ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿਸਾਸਤਸੋਧਿਆਭਾਈਵਿਣੁਸਤਿਗੁਰਭਰਮੁਨਜਾਇ॥
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੀਆਂ ਸ਼ਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਵੇਖੇ ਹਨ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਭੀ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ), ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਭਟਕਣਾ ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ।
I have searched through the Simritees and the Shaastras, O Siblings of Destiny - without the True Guru, doubt does not depart.
सिंम्रिति सासत सोधिआ भाई विणु सतिगुर भरमु न जाइ ॥
ਅਨਿਕਕਰਮਕਰਿਥਾਕਿਆਭਾਈਫਿਰਿਫਿਰਿਬੰਧਨਪਾਇ॥
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਸ਼ਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਦੇ ਦੱਸੇ ਹੋਏ) ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਕਰਮ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਥੱਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਸਗੋਂ) ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਬੰਧਨ ਹੀ ਸਹੇੜਦਾ ਹੈ।
They are so tired of performing their many deeds, O Siblings of Destiny, but they fall into bondage again and again.
अनिक करम करि थाकिआ भाई फिरि फिरि बंधन पाइ ॥
ਚਾਰੇਕੁੰਡਾਸੋਧੀਆਭਾਈਵਿਣੁਸਤਿਗੁਰਨਾਹੀਜਾਇ॥
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਢੂੰਢ ਕੇ ਵੇਖ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ (ਭਟਕਣਾ ਨੂੰ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ) ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਥਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
I have searched in the four directions, O Siblings of Destiny, but without the True Guru, there is no place at all.
चारे कुंडा सोधीआ भाई विणु सतिगुर नाही जाइ ॥
ਵਡਭਾਗੀਗੁਰੁਪਾਇਆਭਾਈਹਰਿਹਰਿਨਾਮੁਧਿਆਇ॥੩॥
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
By great good fortune, I found the Guru, O Siblings of Destiny, and I meditate on the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. ||3||
वडभागी गुरु पाइआ भाई हरि हरि नामु धिआइ ॥३॥
ਸਚੁਸਦਾਹੈਨਿਰਮਲਾਭਾਈਨਿਰਮਲਸਾਚੇਸੋਇ॥
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਹੀ) ਸਦਾ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੈ, ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੈ।
The Truth is forever pure, O Siblings of Destiny; those who are true are pure.
सचु सदा है निरमला भाई निरमल साचे सोइ ॥
ਨਦਰਿਕਰੇਜਿਸੁਆਪਣੀਭਾਈਤਿਸੁਪਰਾਪਤਿਹੋਇ॥
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਇਹ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਉੱਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮੇਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
When the Lord bestows His Glance of Grace, O Siblings of Destiny, then one obtains Him.
नदरि करे जिसु आपणी भाई तिसु परापति होइ ॥
ਕੋਟਿਮਧੇਜਨੁਪਾਈਐਭਾਈਵਿਰਲਾਕੋਈਕੋਇ॥
ਤੇ, ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਹੀ ਇਕ ਲੱਭਦਾ ਹੈ।
Among millions, O Siblings of Destiny, hardly one humble servant of the Lord is found.
कोटि मधे जनु पाईऐ भाई विरला कोई कोइ ॥
ਨਾਨਕਰਤਾਸਚਿਨਾਮਿਭਾਈਸੁਣਿਮਨੁਤਨੁਨਿਰਮਲੁਹੋਇ॥੪॥੨॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ) ਸੁਣ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੨॥
Nanak is imbued with the True Name, O Siblings of Destiny; hearing it, the mind and body become immaculately pure. ||4||2||
नानक रता सचि नामि भाई सुणि मनु तनु निरमलु होइ ॥४॥२॥
