ਸਤਿਰੂਪਗੁਰੁਦਰਸਨੋਪੂਰਨਬ੍ਰਹਮੁਅਚਰਜੁਦਿਖਾਇਆ।
ਗੁਰੂ (ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ) ਦਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਸੱਤ ਸਰੂਪ ਹੈ (ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ) ਪਾਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਅਚਰਜ ਰੂਪ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਹੈ।
The glimpse of the Guru (Nanak Dev) is in the form of truth which has brought me face to face with the perfect and wondrous
ਸਤਿਨਾਮੁਕਰਤਾਪੁਰਖੁਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁਪਰਮੇਸਰੁਧਿਆਇਆ।
(ਆਪ ਨੇ) ਸਤਿਨਾਮ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖ (ਦਾ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਦੱਸਕੇ) ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ਰ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ (ਦ੍ਰਿੜ੍ਹ ਕਰਾਇਆ) ਹੈ।
Bestowing upon the people the mantra of true Name and the creator Lord, he has made the people remember the transcendent B
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਸਬਦਗਿਆਨੁਸਚੁਅਨਹਦਧੁਨਿਵਿਸਮਾਦਸੁਣਾਇਆ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਅਰ ਗਿਆਨ ਸੱਚਾ ਹੈ, (ਉਸ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ) ਅਨਹਦ ਧੁਨੀ ਦੇ ਅਚਰਜ ਵਾਜਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ (ਸਬਦ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਤਕ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਨਾਲ ਪੁਚਾਯਾ ਹੈ) ਸੁਣਾਇਆ ਹੈ। (ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਅਨਹਦ ਝੁਨਕਾਰ)।
The knowledge of truth is the Word of the Guru, through which the wonder inspiring unstruck melody is heard.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਪੰਥੁਚਲਾਇਓਨੁਨਾਮੁਦਾਨੁਇਸਨਾਨੁਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਆ।
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਪੰਥ ਤੋਰ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾਨ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਦ੍ਰਿੜ੍ਹ ਕਰਾਇਆ।
Initiating the gurmukh-panth, (Sikhism, the highway for gurmukhs) the Guru inspired one and all to be steadfastly absorbed
ਗੁਰਸਿਖੁਦੇਗੁਰਸਿਖਕਰਿਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਸਚੁਖੰਡੁਵਸਾਇਆ।
ਗੁਰੂ ਸਿੱਖ੍ਯਾ ਦੇਕੇ 'ਗੁਰ ਸਿਖ' (ਗੁਰੂ ਅੰਗਦ) ਨੂੰ ਥਾਪ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਰੂਪੀ ਸੱਚਾ ਖੰਡ ਵਸਾ ਦਿਤਾ ਹੈ।
Educating the people and making them his disciples, the Gum has founded holy congregation, the abode of truth.
ਸਚੁਰਾਸਰਹਰਾਸਿਦੇਸਤਿਗੁਰਗੁਰਸਿਖਪੈਰੀਪਾਇਆ।
(ਗੁਰੂ ਅੰਗਦ ਜੀ ਨੇ) ਸਚੀ ਪੂੰਜੀ ਦੇਕੇ ਅਰ ਸਚਾ ਰਸਤਾ ਦੱਸਕੇ 'ਸਤਿਗੁਰ' (ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ) ਦੀ ਚਰਣੀ ਗੁਰ ਸਿਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਲਾਇਆ ਹੈ।
Handing over the capital of truth to the people, the Guru made them bow at the (lotus) feet (of the Lord).
ਚਰਣਕਵਲਪਰਤਾਪੁਜਣਾਇਆ।੧।
(ਅਤੇ) ਚਰਣ ਕਮਲਾਂ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪ (ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਦੱਸਿਆ (ਕਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਸਾਡੀ ਉੱਨਤੀ ਤੇ ਬ੍ਰਿਧੀ ਹੈ)।
He made people understand the glory of the feet (of the Lord).
ਪਉੜੀ੨
ਤੀਰਥਨ੍ਹਾਤੈਪਾਪਜਾਨਿਪਤਿਤਉਧਾਰਣਨਾਉਂਧਰਾਇਆ।
ਤੀਰਥਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਪਾਪ ਚਲੇ ਜਾਣੇ (ਮੰਨਕੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਕਾਰਣ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ) ਨਾਮ ਪਤਿਤ ਉਧਾਰਣ ਧਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
Since the sins are obliterated at the pilgrimage centres, people have ven them the Name of uplifters of the fallen ones.
ਤੀਰਥਹੋਨਸਕਾਰਥੇਸਾਧਜਨਾਂਦਾਦਰਸਨੁਪਾਇਆ।
(ਪਰੰਤੂ) ਤੀਰਥ (ਆਪ ਤਦ) 'ਸਕਾਰਥੇ' ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਜਦ) ਸਾਧ ਜਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਪਾ ਲੈਣ ਤਾਂ (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਾਪ ਸਾਧੂ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਯਥਾ-ਸ੍ਰੀ ਮੁਖ ਵਾਕ:- “ਗੰਗਾ ਜਮਨਾ ਗੋਦਾਵਰੀ ਸਰਸੁਤੀ ਤੇ ਕਰਹਿ ਉਦਮੁ ਧੂਰਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਦੀ ਤਾਈ॥ ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਮੈਲੁ ਭਰੇ ਪਰੇ ਹਮਰੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਹਮਰੀ ਮੈਲੁ ਸਾਧੂ ਕੀ ਧੂਰਿ ਗਵਾਈ”)।
But pilgrimage centres ecome meaningful only by the sight of the sadhus there.
ਸਾਧਹੋਏਮਨਸਾਧਿਕੈਚਰਣਕਵਲਗੁਰਚਿਤਿਵਸਾਇਆ।
(ਹੁਣ ਕੋਈ ਪੁੱਛੇ ਕਿ) ਸਾਧੂ (ਕਿਹੜੇ) ਹਨ? (ਉੱਤਰ) ਜੋ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਧਕੇ (ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ ਜੀ) ਦੇ ਚਰਣ ਕਮਲ ਵਿਖੇ ਚਿਤ ਵਸਾ ਛਡਦੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ ਕਦੇ ਆਪ ਥੋਂ ਭਿੰਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਣ ਦੇਂਦੇ)।
Sadhus are they, ho having disciplined the mind have put it in the lotus feet of the Guru. ory of sadhu is unfathomable and
ਉਪਮਾਸਾਧਅਗਾਧਿਬੋਧਕੋਟਮਧੇਕੋਸਾਧੁਸੁਣਾਇਆ।
ਸਾਧ ਦੀ ਉਪਮਾਂ ਡੂੰਘੇ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਕੋਈ (ਇਕ ਅਜਿਹਾ) ਸਾਧੂ ਸੁਣੀਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਯਥਾ:-”ਤੇਰਾ ਜਨੁ ਇਕੁ ਆਧੁ ਕੋਈ”॥ ਪੁਨਾ:-”ਕੋਟਿ ਮਧੇ ਕੋ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਹੋਰਿ ਸਗਲੇ ਬਿਉਹਾਰੀ”)।
One out of crores may be d to be a (true) sadhu.
ਗੁਰਸਿਖਸਾਧਅਸੰਖਜਗਿਧਰਮਸਾਲਥਾਇਥਾਇਸੁਹਾਇਆ।
ਗੁਰੂ (ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ ਜੀ) ਦੇ ਸਿਖ (ਅਤੇ ਸਾਧੂ) ਅਨਗਿਣਤ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਖੇ ਹਨ, (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ) ਧਰਮਸਾਲ (ਰੂਪ ਤੀਰਥ) ਜਗਾ ਜਗਾ ਸ਼ੋਭ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।

ਪੈਰੀਪੈਪੈਰਧੋਵਣੇਚਰਣੋਦਕੁਲੈਪੈਰੁਪੁਜਾਇਆ।
ਪੈਰੀਂ ਪੈਕੇ' ਗੁਰੂ ਸਿਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੈਰ ਧੋ ਕੇ ਚਰਣੋਦਕ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਅਰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ) ਚਰਣ ਪੂਜਦੇ ਹਨ।
People bowing at the feet of the Sikhs of the Guru take wash ectar of their feet and worship the same.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸੁਖਫਲੁਅਲਖੁਲਖਾਇਆ।੨।
(ਅਜਿਹੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਨੇ) ਅਲਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਲਖ ਲੀਤਾ (ਇਸ ਲਈ) ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਖ ਫਲ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ (ਜੋ ਧਰਮਸਾਲਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਸੇਵਾ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਯਥਾ:-”ਘਰ ਘਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਧਰਮਸਾਲ ਹੋਵੈ ਕਰਤਨ ਸਦਾ ਵਸੋਆ”)।
Gurmukh has had the glimpse the imperceptible Lord and pleasure fruit there of.
ਪਉੜੀ੩
ਪੰਜਿਤਤਉਤਪਤਿਕਰਿਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਧਰਤੀਆਪੁਗਵਾਇਆ।
ਪੰਜ ਤੱਤ (ਅਪੁ, ਤੇਜ, ਵਾਯੂ, ਅਕਾਸ਼ ਪ੍ਰਿਥਵੀ ਈਸ਼੍ਵਰ ਨੇ) ਉਤਪਤ ਕੀਤੇ ਹਨ (ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਨੇ) ਧਰਤੀ ਦਾ ਗੁਣ ਲੈਕੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪ ਗਵਾ ਦਿਤਾ ਹੈ, (ਅੱਗੇ ਫਲ ਦੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ)।
Cultivating the virtues of all the five elements in their hearts, the gurmukhs like earth have lost the sense of ego.
ਚਰਣਕਵਲਸਰਣਾਗਤੀਸਭਨਿਧਾਨਸਭੇਫਲਪਾਇਆ।
ਚਰਣ ਕਮਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਲੈਣ ਨਾਲ (ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਨੇ) ਸਾਰੇ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਅਰ ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਫਲ ਪਾ ਲੀਤੇ ਹਨ।
They have come to the shelter of the Guru's feet and from that store - house they get all sorts of benefits.
ਲੋਕਵੇਦਗੁਰਗਿਆਨਵਿਚਿਸਾਧੂਧੂੜਿਜਗਤਤਰਾਇਆ।
ਲੋਕਾਂ, ਧਰਮ ਪੁਸਤਕਾਂ, ਅਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਗਿਆਨ ਵਿਖੇ ਸਾਧੂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜੀ ਨੇ ਜਗਤ ਤਾਰਿਆ ਹੈ।
From convention and the knowledge given by the Guru also the same (conclusion) emerges that the dust of the (feet of) sadh
ਪਤਿਤਪੁਨੀਤਕਰਾਇਕੈਪਾਵਨਪੁਰਖਪਵਿਤ੍ਰਕਰਾਇਆ।
ਪਾਪੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ੍ਰ ਕਰਕੇ, ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ੍ਰ ਪੁਰਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬੀ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ੍ਰ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ (ਗੱਲ ਕੀ ਪਾਵਨ ਪੁਰਖ ਬੀ ਇਸੇ ਧੂੜੀ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ)।
The fallen ones are made meritorious and the meritorious ones are further transformed into sacred ones.
ਚਰਣੋਦਕਮਹਿਮਾਅਮਿਤਸੇਖਸਹਸਮੁਖਿਅੰਤੁਨਪਾਇਆ।
ਚਰਣਾਂਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਦੀ ਮਹਿਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਮੂੰਹ ਵਾਲਾ ਸ਼ੇਖ ਨਾਗ ਬੀ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ।
The glory of the wash nectar of the feet of sadhus is limitless; even Stesanag (thouosand hooded mythological snake) while
ਧੂੜੀਲੇਖੁਮਿਟਾਇਆਚਰਣੋਦਕਮਨੁਵਸਿਗਤਿਆਇਆ।
(ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਦੇ ਚਰਣਾਂ ਦੀ) ਧੂੜ ਨਾਲ ਲੇਖ (ਕੁਲੇਖ) ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਅਰ ਚਰਣਾਂਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਲੈਣ ਨਾਲ ਮਨ ਵੱਸ ਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Eulogizing the Lord by its many a mouth could not know it. The dust of sadhu's feet has erased all debts and because of that feet-wash nectar, the mind has also come under control.
ਪੈਰੀਪੈਜਗੁਚਰਨੀਲਾਇਆ।੩।
ਗੁਰੂ ਬੀ ਪੈਰੀਂ ਪੈਕੇ (ਸਾਰੇ) ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ ਪੈਰੀ ਪਾ ਲੀਤਾ (ਯਥਾ:- “ਮੇਰੈ ਮਾਥੈ ਲਾਗੀ ਲੇ ਧੂਰਿ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਚਰਨਨ ਕੀ”)।
Gurmukh first himself bowed at the feet and then he made the whole world fall at his feet.
ਪਉੜੀ੪
ਚਰਣੋਦਕੁਹੋਇਸੁਰਸਰੀਤਜਿਬੈਕੁੰਠਧਰਤਿਵਿਚਿਆਈ।
(ਲੋਕ ਪ੍ਰਸਿੱਧ ਕਥਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਗੰਗਾ (ਬਾਵਨ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ) ਦਾ ਚਰਣਾਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਹੋਣ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਬੈਕੁੰਠ ਛਡ ਕੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਵਿਖੇ ਆਈ।
Ganges, the wash of the Lords' feet, left heavens and came down to arth.
ਨਉਸੈਨਦੀਨੜਿੰਨਵੈਅਠਸਠਿਤੀਰਥਿਅੰਗਿਸਮਾਈ।
ਨੌਂ ਸੈ ਨੜਿੰਨਵੈ ਨਦੀ ਤੇ ਅਠਾਹਠ ਤੀਰਥਾਂ ਨੇ ਗੰਗਾ ਵਿਖੇ ਸਮਾਈ ਕੀਤੀ, (ਗੰਗਾ ਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਦਾ ਫਲ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਸ਼੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਮੰਨਦੇ ਹਨ)।
Nine hundred ninety nine rivers and sixty eight pilgrimage centres erged in it.
ਤਿਹੁਲੋਈਪਰਵਾਣੁਹੈਮਹਾਦੇਵਲੈਸੀਸਚੜ੍ਹਾਈ।
ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਪ੍ਰਮਾਣਿਕ ਹੋਈ (ਅਰਥਾਤ ਉਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਤਿੰਨ ਧਾਰਾਂ ਹੋ ਗਈਆਂ, ਪਾਤਾਲ ਧਾਰਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਭੋਗਾਵਤੀ, ਸ੍ਵਰਗ ਧਾਰਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਅਮਰਾਵਤੀ, ਅਰ ਭੁਲੋਕ ਵਿਖੇ ਗੰਗਾ ਨਾਮ ਕਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ) ਇਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਿਵ ਨੇ ਲੈਕੇ ਸਿਰ ਪੁਰ ਰੱਖਿਆ।
In all the three worlds, it is accepted as authentic and Mahadev ,iva) has borne it on his head.
ਦੇਵੀਦੇਵਸਰੇਵਦੇਜੈਜੈਕਾਰਵਡੀਵਡਿਆਈ।
ਦੇਵੀਆਂ ਅਰ ਦੇਵਤੇ ਸੇਂਵਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜੈ ਜੈ ਕਾਰ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਰ ਵੱਡ ਸ਼ੋਭਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
Gods and goddesses all worship it and hail s greatness.
ਸਣੁਗੰਗਾਬੈਕੁੰਠਲਖਲਖਬੈਕੁੰਠਨਾਥਿਲਿਵਲਾਈ।
(ਪਰ) ਲੱਖਾਂ ਬੈਕੁੰਠ, ਅਰ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਬੈਕੁੰਠਾਂ ਦੇ ਸ੍ਵਾਮੀ (ਇਸ) ਗੰਗਾ ਸਮੇਤ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਕੇ (ਧ੍ਯਾਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ)
Myriads of heavens and the master of heavens including the ranges, absorbed in meditation declare,
ਸਾਧੂਧੂੜਿਦੁਲੰਭਹੈਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਸਤਿਗੁਰੁਸਰਣਾਈ।
ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਵੱਡੀ ਹੀ ਦੁਰਲੱਭ ਹੈ, (ਜੋ) ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤ (ਦੀ) ਸ਼ਰਨ ਆਉਣ (ਦਾ ਨਾਮ) ਹੈ।
That the dust of the feet of sadhu is rare and is obtainable only by coming under the shelter of the true Guru.
ਚਰਨਕਵਲਦਲਕੀਮਨਪਾਈ।੪।
ਦਰਨ ਕਵਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਇੱਕ ਦਲ (ਪੱਤ੍ਰ) ਦੀ ਕੀਮਤ ਨਹੀਂ (ਕਿਸੇ) ਪਾਈ।
Value of even the one petal of the lotus feet is beyond assessment.

ਚਰਣਸਰਣਿਜਿਸੁਲਖਮੀਲਖਕਲਾਹੋਇਲਖੀਨਜਾਈ।
ਜਿਸ ਲੱਖਮੀ ਦੀ ਚਰਣ ਸ਼ਰਣ ਵਿਖੇ ਲੱਖਾਂ 'ਕਲਾਂ' ਹਨ (ਅਜੇਹੀ) ਹੋਕੇ (ਕਿਸੇ ਥੋਂ) ਲਖੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦੀ।
Lakhs of invisible powers adorn the shelter of the feet of goddess of wealth (Laksmi);
ਰਿਧਿਸਿਧਿਨਿਧਿਸਭਗੋਲੀਆਂਸਾਧਿਕਸਿਧਰਹੇਲਪਟਾਈ।
(ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ) ਰਿਧਾਂ ਸਿਧਾਂ ਨੌਂ ਨਿਧਾਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਟਹਿਲਣਾਂ ਹਨ, ਸਾਧਨਾਂ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਅਤੇ ਸਿੱਧ (ਲੋਕ ਉੇਸੇ ਲੱਛਮੀ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ) ਲਪਟ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ ਸਾਰੇ ਮਾਯਾ ਦੇ ਦਾਸ ਹਨ)।
All prosperities, miraculous powers and treasures are her servants and many an accomplished person is engrossed in her.
ਚਾਰਿਵਰਨਛਿਅਦਰਸਨਾਂਜਤੀਸਤੀਨਉਨਾਥਨਿਵਾਈ।
(ਜਿਸ ਨੇ) ਚਾਰੇ ਵਰਣ, ਛੀ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ, ਜਤੀ ਸਤੀ ਅਰ ਨੌਂ ਨਾਥ ਬੀ ਨਿਵਾ ਲੀਤੇ ਹਨ।
All the four vamas, six philosophies, celebates, suttees and nine maths have been made to bow by her.
ਤਿੰਨਲੋਅਚੌਦਹਭਵਨਜਲਿਥਲਿਮਹੀਅਲਛਲੁਕਰਿਛਾਈ।
ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ, ਚੌਦਾਂ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡਾਂ, ਜਲਾਂ ਥਲਾਂ, ਪ੍ਰਿਥਵੀ, ਪਾਤਾਲਾਂ ਵਿਖ ਛਲ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਛਾਇ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ।

(ਇਹ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੁਖਫਲ (ਵੈਰਾਗ) ਦੀ ਵਡੀ ਸ਼ੋਭਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿ ਮਾਯਾ ਨੂੰ ਬੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਾਸੀ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ)।

ਬਾਵਨ (ਅਰਥਾਤ ਨਿੱਕਾ ਜਿਹਾ) ਰੂਪ ਧਾਰਕੇ ਰਾਜਾ ਬਲੀ ਨੂੰ ਛਲਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਛਲਨ ਵਿੱਚ (ਨਾਂ ਕਾਮਯਾਬ ਹੋਕੇ) ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਛਲਾ ਬੈਠਾ।
Assuming the form of Vaman (short statured brahmin) and remaining unsuccessful in beguiling king Bali
ਕਰੌਂਅਢਾਈਧਰਤਿਮੰਗਿਪਿਛੋਂਦੇਵਡਪਿੰਡੁਵਧਾਇਆ।
ਪਹਿਲੇ (ਰਾਜਾ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਅਢਾਈ ਉਲਾਂਘਾਂ ਜ਼ਮੀਨ ਮੰਗੀ ਪਿੱਛੋਂ ਵਡਾ ਸ਼ਰੀਰ ਵਧਾ ਲੀਤਾ (ਅਜਿਹਾ ਕਿ)

ਦੁਇਕਰੁਵਾਕਰਿਤਿੰਨਿਲੋਅਬਲਿਰਾਜੇਫਿਰਿਮਗਰੁਮਿਣਾਇਆ।
ਦੋ ਉਲਾਂਘਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਤਿੰਨੇ ਲੋਕ (ਮਿਣ ਲੀਤੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਅੱਧੀ ਉਲਾਂਘ ਦੇ ਬਦਲੇ) ਰਾਜੇ ਦਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਮਿਣਿਆ (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਇਹ ਦਾਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ ਹੈਸੀ)।

(ਹੁਣ ਰਾਜਾ ਬਲਿ ਨੇ) ਸੁਰਗ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਪਤਾਲ (ਭਾਵ ਨਿੰਮ੍ਰਤਾ ਧਾਰਨੀ) ਦਾ ਰਾਜ ਚੰਗਾ ਜਾਣ ਕੇ ਲੀਤਾ (ਜਦ ਬਾਵਨ ਮੁੜਨ ਲੱਗਾ ਤਦ ਬਲੀ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਤੂੰ ਕਿੱਥੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ? ਆਪਣਾ ਬਚਨ ਯਾਦ ਰੱਖਕੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਬੂਹੇ ਬੈਠ)।

(ਹੁਣ) ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾਂ, ਬਿਸ਼ਨੂੰ; ਸ਼ਿਵ ਨੂੰ (ਵਾਰੀ ਵਾਰੀ ਸਿਰ) ਪਹਿਰੇਦਾਰ ਸਦਾਉਣਾ ਪਿਆ ਭਗਤ ਵਛਲ (ਹੋਣ ਕਰਕੇ)।

Many sacred incarnations like Vaman also have the wish of having the dust of the feet of holy congregation.

ਸਹਸਬਾਹੁਜਮਦਗਨਿਘਰਿਹੋਇਪਰਾਹੁਣਚਾਰੀਆਇਆ।
ਸਹਸਬਾਹੁ (ਨਾਮੇ ਰਾਜਾ ਜਿਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਬਾਂਹਾਂ ਸਨ) ਜਮਦਗਨੀ (ਨਾਮੇ ਰਿਖੀ ਪਾਸ ਜੋ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਾਂਢੂ ਬੀ ਸੀ) ਪਰਾਹੁਣਾਂ ਬਣਕੇ (ਬਣ ਵਿਖੇ ਇਕ ਦਿਨ ਫੌਜ ਸਮੇਤ) ਆ ਉਤਰਿਆ।

(ਹੁਣ ਪਰਸਰਾਮ ਦੀ ਮਾਂ) ਰੇਣਕਾ (ਰੰਡੀ ਹੋਣ ਕਰਕੇ) ਪਿੱਟਣ ਲੱਗੀ, ਪਰਸਰਾਮ (ਸੁਣਦਾ ਹੀ) ਦੌੜਕੇ ਆਇਆ।

(ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਸ਼ਰ ਦੇ) ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਫੜੀ ਸੋ ਬਚੇ (ਰਾਮਚੰਦ੍ਰ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਸਮੇਤ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਭਗਤ ਹੋਣ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਪਰਸਰਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਚ ਰਹੇ ਸੇ, ਐਸੇ ਹੀ ਰਾਜਾ ਅਗੁਟ ਸਿੰਧ ਦੇ, ਪਰਜਾ ਤੇ ਸ਼ਰਨਾਗਤਾਂ ਸਮੇਤ ਬਚੇ, ਐਸੇ ਹੀ ਜਨਕ ਭਗਤ ਅਰ ਹੋਰ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਰਨਾਗਤ) ਹੋਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ੳਸ (ਕਾਤਲ) ਦੇ ਸਾਮ੍ਹਣੇ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਉਚੀ

ਚਰਨਾਂ ਕਮਲਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਕਰੰਦ ਰਸ ਨਾ ਪਾਯਾ। (ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਦੁਖੀ ਗਿਆ)।

ਰੰਗਮਹਲਰੰਗਰੰਗਵਿਚਿਦਸਰਥੁਕਉਸਲਿਆਰਲੀਆਲੇ।
ਦਸਰਥ ਦੇ ਰਣਵਾਸ ਵਿਖੇ (ਜਿੱਥੇ) ਵਡੇ ਰਾਗ ਰੰਗ (ਹੁੰਦੇ ਸਨ) ਕੌਸ਼ੱਲਿਆ ਪਟਰਾਣੀ ਗਰਭਵਤੀ ਹੋਈ।

(ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਇਸ ਨਿੰਮ੍ਰਤਾ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪ ਕਰਕੇ) ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਅਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ ਪਛਾਣ ਲਵੇ।
He could realise the importance of the service of the holy congregation and the Word of the Guru.

ਮੱਛ ਰੂਪ ਦਾ ਅਵਤਾਰ ਧਾਰ ਕੇ ਮਿਹਨਤ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਵੇਦਾਂ ਦਾ ਉਧਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ।
It is said that in the form of (great) fish Vista' incarnated himself and by his valour salvaged the Vedas.

ਮੱਥੇ ਤੇ ਤਿਊੜੀ ਵਾਲਾ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ ਜੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਮਿਲ ਪਵੇ (ਤਦ ਲੋਕ) ਸਲਾਹ ਫੇਰ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ ਤੁਰਣ ਤੋਂ ਹਟ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਅਪਸ਼ਗਨ ਹੈ। ਸੋ ਮਥਾ ਪੂਜਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ)।

Nose is also not worshipped because on seeing a low person the nose is turned up to show disdain.

ਜੀਭ (ਇਸ ਲਈ) ਨਹੀਂ ਪੂਜੀਦੀ ਕਿ (ਇਕ ਤਾਂ) ਬਾਹਲਾ ਬੜ ਬੜ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਦੂਜੇ ਬਾਹਲੇ ਰਸਾਂ ਕਸਾਂ ਦੇ ਸ੍ਵਾਦ ਲੈਣ ਲਈ ਦੰਦਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਘੇਰੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
Tongue is also not worshipped because it is also surrounded by teeth and tastes both edibles and inedibles.

ਹਸਤਿਅਖਾਜੁਗੁਮਾਨਕਰਿਸੀਹੁਸਤਾਣਾਕੋਇਨਖਾਈ।
ਹਾਥੀ (ਦਾ ਮਾਸ) ਅਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਲਈ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਵਿਖੇ) ਗੁਮਾਨ ਵੱਡਾ ਹੈ; ਸ਼ੇਰ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਤਾਣ (ਦਾ ਗੁਮਾਨ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਲਈ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਬੀ) ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਖਾਂਦਾ।
The proud elephant is inedible and none eats the mighty lion.
ਹੋਇਨਿਮਾਣੀਬਕਰੀਦੀਨਦੁਨੀਵਡਿਆਈਪਾਈ।
ਬਕਰੀ ਨਿਰਮਾਣ ਹੈ ਇਸ ਲਈ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਇਸਦੀ ਸ਼ੋਭਾ ਹੈ।
Goat is humble and hence it is respected everywhere.
ਮਰਣੈਪਰਣੈਮੰਨੀਐਜਗਿਭੋਗਿਪਰਵਾਣੁਕਰਾਈ।
ਮਰਣੇ ਤੇ ਪਰਣੇ ਵਿਖੇ ਮੰਨੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜੱਗ ਅਰ ਵਡੇ ਖਾਣਿਆਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਪ੍ਰਮਾਣਿਕ ਹੈ।

ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਤੀ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਮਾਸ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ (ਮੰਨਿਆ) ਹੈ; ਆਂਦਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਤਾਰ (ਤੰਦੀ ਬਣਦੀ ਹੈ ਜੋ) ਵੀਚਾਰਵਾਨ (ਸਾਧੂ ਬੀ) ਵਜਦੀ (ਸੁਣਕੇ ਮਗਨ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ)।
Among the householders its meat is acknowledged as sacred and with its gut stringed instruments are made.
ਚਮੜੇਦੀਆਂਕਰਿਜੁਤੀਆਸਾਧੂਚਰਣਸਰਣਿਲਿਵਲਾਈ।
(ਇਸ ਦੇ) ਚਮੜੇ ਦੀਆਂ (ਨਰਮ) ਜੁਤੀਆਂ (ਬਣਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ) ਸਾਧੂ ਸ਼ਰਣ ਵਿਚ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਉਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਚਰਨੀਂ (ਪਹਿਨਦੇ ਹਨ)।

(ਫੇਰ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਚਮੜੇ ਨਾਲ) ਮ੍ਰਿਦੰਗ ਤੇ ਜੋੜੀਆਂ ਮੜ੍ਹੀਆਂ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਖੇ ਕੀਰਤਨ (ਤੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਵਰਖਾ ਵਿਚ ਇਹ) ਸੁਖਦਾਇਕ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ।

ਸਾਰੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਅਕਾਰਥੇ ਹਨ, ਵਡੀ ਅਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ (ਇਕ) ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਦੇਹ ਹੈ। (ਪਰੰਤੂ ਇਸ ਵਿਚ)
All the bodies are useful but the human body is the most useless and defiled one.
ਬਹੁਬਿੰਜਨਮਿਸਟਾਨਪਾਨਹੁਇਮਲਮੂਤ੍ਰਕੁਸੂਤ੍ਰਇਵੇਹੀ।
ਬਹੁਤੇ ਭੋਜਨ ਤੇ ਮਿੱਠੇ ਸ਼ਰਬਤ, ਮਲ ਮੂਤ੍ਰ ਹੋਕੇ ਐਵੇਂ ਹੀ ਕਸੂਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

ਪੱਟ ਦੇ ਕਪੜੇ (ਪਹਿਰਣ ਨਾਲ) ਮੈਲੇ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਾਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਬੀੜੇ, (ਦੇਹ ਦੇ) ਕੁਸੰਗ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਕੇ ਕੁਰੂਪ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

ਚੋਆਚੰਦਨੁਅਰਗਜਾਹੁਇਦੁਰਗੰਧਸੁਗੰਧਹੁਰੇਹੀ।
ਚੋਆ, ਚੰਦਨ, ਅਰਗਜਾ ਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਸੁਗੰਧੀਆਂ ਬੀ ਦੁਰਗੰਧ ਹੁੰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ।
Sandal scent, and joss sticks etc also get converted into fowl smell.
ਰਾਜੇਰਾਜਕਮਾਂਵਦੇਪਾਤਿਸਾਹਖਹਿਮੁਏਸਭੇਹੀ।
ਰਾਜੇ ਰਾਜ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋਏ, ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ (ਹਉਮੈ ਨਾਲ) ਆਪੋ ਵਿਚ ਖਹਿ ਖਹਿ ਕੇ ਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
Kings rule gheir kingdoms and die of their fights with one another.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਗੁਰੁਸਰਣਿਵਿਣੁਨਿਹਫਲੁਮਾਣਸਦੇਹਇਵੇਹੀ।
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਅਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਥੋਂ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇਹੀ ਐਵੇਂ ਹੀ ਨਿਹਫਲ ਹੈ।
Withoug going to the holy congregation and to the shelter of Guru, this human body is also fruitless.
ਚਰਨਸਰਣਿਮਸਕੀਨੀਜੇਹੀ।੧੪।
(ਪਰ) ਚਰਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਣ ਲੈ ਕੇ (ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ) ਗਰੀਬੀ (ਫੜੀ ਹੈ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ) ਜਿਹੀ (ਸਫਲਤਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ)।
Only that body is meaningful which has come to the Guru's fold in humility
ਪਉੜੀ੧੫
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸੁਖਫਲੁਪਾਇਆਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਗੁਰਸਰਣੀਆਏ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਸੁਖ ਫਲ ਪਾ ਲੀਤਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਹੜੇ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ (ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਕੇ) ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਣੀ ਆਏ ਹਨ (ਸੋ ਹੇਠਲੀਆਂ ਚਾਰ ਤੁਕਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਦੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ)।
Those gurmukhs who have gone into the shelter of the holy congretation have attained the pleasure fruit.
ਧ੍ਰੂਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦਵਖਾਣੀਅਨਿਅੰਬਰੀਕੁਬਲਿਭਗਤਿਸਬਾਏ।
ਧ੍ਰੂਵ, ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ, ਅੰਬਰੀਕ, ਬਲ, ਸਾਰੇ ਭਗਤ ਕਹੀਦੇ ਹਨ।
These devotees are Dhruv, Prahalad, Ambaris, Bali, Janak, Jaidev, Valmilci et al.
ਜਨਕਾਦਿਕਜੈਦੇਉਜਗਿਬਾਲਮੀਕੁਸਤਿਸੰਗਿਤਰਾਏ।
ਸਨਕਾਦਿਕ, ਜੈਦੇਵ, ਬਾਲਮੀਕ, ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਨੇ ਤਾਰੇ।
They have gone across through the holy congregation. Bent, Trilochan, Namdev, Dhanna,
ਬੇਣੁਤਿਲੋਚਨੁਨਾਮਦੇਉਧੰਨਾਸਧਨਾਭਗਤਸਦਾਏ।
ਬੇਣੀ, ਤ੍ਰਿਲੋਚਨ, ਨਾਮਦੇਉ, ਧੰਨਾ, ਸਧਨਾ ਭਗਤ ਸਦਾਏ।
Sadhana have also been called saints. Kabir is accepted as bhagat, the devotee, and Ravidas,
ਭਗਤੁਕਬੀਰੁਵਖਾਣੀਐਜਨਰਵਿਦਾਸੁਬਿਦਰਗੁਰੁਭਾਏ।
ਕਬੀਰ ਭਗਤ ਕਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਨ ਰਵਿਦਾਸ, ਬਿਰਦ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਏ,
Vidur et al. have also been loved by the Lord. Whether born in high or the low caste,
ਜਾਤਿਅਜਾਤਿਸਨਾਤਿਵਿਚਿਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਚਰਣਕਵਲਚਿਤੁਲਾਏ।
(ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਖੋਂ) ਕਈ ਨੀਵੀਂ ਜਾਤ ਵਾਲੇ, ਕਈ ਚਮਾਰ (ਆਦਿ) ਹਨ, ਪਰੰਤੂ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਣ ਕਵਲਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਲਾਇਆ,
The gurmukh who has adopted the lotus feet in his heart,
ਹਉਮੈਮਾਰੀਪ੍ਰਗਟੀਆਏ।੧੫।
ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰੀ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਹੋ ਗਏ।

ਲੋਕਵੇਦਸੁਣਿਆਖਦਾਸੁਣਿਸੁਣਿਗਿਆਨੀਗਿਆਨੁਵਖਾਣੈ।
(ਬੁਧੀਮਾਨ) ਲੋਕਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਸੁਣਕੇ ਵੇਦ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸੁਣ ਸੁਣ (ਕੇ ਹੀ) ਗਿਆਨੀ ਲੋਕ ਗਿਆਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
The so - called knowledgeable persons having listened to the Vedas as their knowledge about the world on the basis of hears
ਸੁਰਗਲੋਕਸਣੁਮਾਤਲੋਕਸੁਣਿਸੁਣਿਸਾਤਪਤਾਲੁਨਾਜਾਣੈ।
ਸੁਰਗ ਦੇ ਲੋਕ ਸਣੇ ਮਾਤਲੋਕ ਦੇ ਸੱਤੇ ਪਤਾਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਲੋਕ ਬੀ ਸੁਣ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਜਾਣਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ।
The also learn about heavens, mother earth and all the seven odds, but still they donot know the real truth.
ਭੂਤਭਵਿਖਨਵਰਤਮਾਨਆਦਿਮਧਿਅੰਤਹੋਏਹੈਰਾਣੈ।
ਭੂਤ, ਭਵਿੱਖਤ ਅਤੇ ਵਰਤਮਾਨ ਵਿਖੇ ਆਦ ਮੱਧ ਅੰਤ ਤੀਕ ਹੈਰਾਣ ਹੋ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
Neither do they hand the past future and the present, nor the mystery of the beginning middle, but are simply wonderstruck
ਉਤਮਮਧਮਨੀਚਹੋਇਸਮਝਿਨਸਕਣਿਚੋਜਵਿਡਾਣੈ।
ਉਤਮ, ਮੱਧਮ ਅਤੇ ਨੀਚ ਹੋਕੇ (ਤਿੰਨ ਦਸ਼ਾ ਦੇ ਲੋਕ) ਉੇਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਅਚਰਜ ਕੌਤਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਰੇ ਸਮਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੇ।
Through their classifications medium and low varnas they cannot understand the great play.
ਰਜਗੁਣਤਮਗੁਣਆਖੀਐਸਤਿਗੁਣਸੁਣਆਖਾਣਵਖਾਣੈ।
ਰਜੋ ਗੁਣੀ (ਰਾਜੇ) ਤਮੋਗੁਣੀ (ਦੈਤ ਦਾਨਵ) ਸਤੋਗੁਣੀ (ਦੇਵਤੇ) ਬੀ ਸੁਣ ਸੁਣਕੇ ਅਖਾਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ।
Engrossed in actions (rajoguni), inertia (tamoguni) and tranquillity (satoguni) also talk and listen,
ਮਨਬਚਕਰਮਸਿਭਰਮਦੇਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਸਤਿਗੁਰਨਸਿਞਾਣੈ।
ਮਨ ਬਾਣੀ ਅਰ ਸਰੀਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਭਰਮ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਖੇ ਮਿਲਕੇ 'ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ) (ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ), ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਛਾਣਦੇ।
But without understanding the holy nation and the true Guru, they wander through the activities of their eech and actions.
ਫਕੜੁਹਿੰਦੂਮੁਸਲਮਾਣੈ।੧੬।
(ਏਸੇ ਕਰਕੇ) ਹਿੰਦੂ ਅਤੇ ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨ (ਦੋਵੇਂ ਹੀ) ਫੱਕੜ ਹਨ, (ਭਾਵ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਅਤੇ ਵ੍ਯਰਥ ਹਨ)।

ਸਤਿਜੁਗਿਇਕੁਵਿਗਾੜਦਾਤਿਸੁਪਿਛੈਫੜਿਦੇਸੁਪੀੜਾਏ।
ਸਤਿਜੁਗ ਵਿਚ ਇਕ ਜਣਾ ਪਾਪ ਕਰਦਾ ਸੀ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਸਾਰਾ ਦੇਸ਼ ਪੀੜੀਦਾ ਸੀ।
In the Satyug the whole country suffered because of the evil deeds of one wrong-doer.
ਤ੍ਰੇਤੈਨਗਰੀਵਗਲੀਐਦੁਆਪਰਿਵੰਸੁਨਰਕਿਸਹਮਾਏ।
ਤ੍ਰੇਤੈ ਵਿਖੇ ਸਾਰੀ ਨਗਰੀ ਫੜੀਦੀ ਸੀ, ਦੁਆਪਰ ਵਿਖੇ ਸਾਰੀ ਵੰਸ਼ ਨਰਕ (ਕੈਦ ਵਿਚ) ਜਾਂਦੀ ਸੀ।
In Tretia the whole city was surrounded and in Dvapar, the whole family was to suffer hell.
ਜੋਫੇੜੈਸੋਫੜੀਦਾਕਲਿਜੁਗਿਸਚਾਨਿਆਉਕਰਾਏ।
ਕਲਜੁਗ ਵਿਖੇ ਜੋ ਪਾਪ ਕਰੇ ਫੜੀਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਇਸੇ ਕਰਕੇ) ਸੱਚਾ ਨਿਆਉਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (“ਸਤਜੁਗ, ਤ੍ਰੇਤਾ, ਦੁਆਪਰ ਭਣੀਐ ਕਲਿਜੁਗ ਊਤਮ ਜੁਗਾ ਮਾਹਿ॥ ਅਹਿਕਰੁ ਕਰੇ ਸੋ ਅਹਿਕਰੁ ਪਾਏ ਕੋਈ ਨ ਪਕੜੀਐ ਕਿਸੈ ਥਾਇ”)।
The justice of Kaliyug is true because only he suffers who does the evil deeds.
ਸਤਿਜੁਗਸਤੁਤ੍ਰੇਤੈਜੁਗਾਦੁਆਪਰਿਪੂਜਾਚਾਰਿਦਿੜਾਏ।
ਸਤਜੁਗ ਵਿਖੇ ਸਤਿ ਬੋਲਣ ਨਾਲ, ਤ੍ਰੇਤੈ ਵਿਖੇ ਜੱਗਾਂ ਕਰਨ ਨਾਲ, ਦੁਆਪਰ ਵਿਖੇ ਪੂਜਾ ਦੇ ਕਰਤਬਾਂ ਦੀ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਤਾ ਕਰਾਂਦੇ ਸੀ। (“ਸਤਜੁਗ ਸਤ, ਤ੍ਰੇਤਾ ਜਗੀ, ਦੁਆਪਰ ਪੂਜਾ ਚਾਰ। “ ਪੁਨਾ:- “ਕਲਿ ਕੇਵਲ ਨਾਮ ਆਧਾਰ”)।
In Satyug, the truth, in Treta- the yajti, in Dvapar ritualistic worship were accomplished.
ਕਲਿਜੁਗਿਨਾਉਅਰਾਧਣਾਹੋਰਕਰਮਕਰਿਮੁਕਤਿਨਪਾਏ।
ਕਲਿਜੁਗ ਵਿਖੇ ਇਕ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਅਰਾਧਣਾਂ (ਮੁਖ ਕਰਮ ਹੈ) ਹੋਰ ਕਰਮਾਂ (ਧਰਮਾਂ) ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦੀ।
In Kaliyug through no action other than constant remembering the Lord's name could attain liberation.
ਜੁਗਿਜੁਗਿਲੁਣੀਐਬੀਜਿਆਪਾਪੁਪੁੰਨੁਕਰਿਦੁਖਸੁਖਪਾਏ।
ਜੁਗਾਂ ਜੁਗਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਜਿਹਾ ਕੋਈ ਪਾਪ ਪੁੰਨ ਬੀਜਦਾ (ਉਸ ਦਾ ਫਲ) ਦੁਖ ਜਾਂ ਸੁਖ ਕੱਟਦਾ ਸੀ (ਪਰੰਤੂ ਕਲਿਜੁਗ ਦੀ ਇਕ ਹੋਰ ਗੱਲ ਵੱਡੀ ਚੰਗੀ ਹੈ)
In all the yugs (ages) the individual reaps what he has sown and earns sufferings and delights in accordance with his demer
ਕਲਿਜੁਗਿਚਿਤਵੈਪੁੰਨਫਲਪਾਪਹੁਲੇਪੁਅਧਰਮਕਮਾਏ।
ਕਿ ਕਲਿਜੁਗ ਵਿਖੇ ਪੁੰਨ ਦੇ ਚਿਤਵਿਆਂ ਫਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਰ ਪਾਪ ਦਾ ਲੇਪ ਅਧਰਮ ਦੇ ਕਮਾਇਆਂ ਹੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
In Kaliyug, the individual desires to have the fruits of meritorious actions though he remains absorbed in the sinful deeds
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸੁਖਫਲੁਆਪੁਗਵਾਏ।੧੭।
(ਪਰ) ਸੁਖ ਰੂਪੀ ਫਲ ਆਪਾ ਭਾਵ ਗਵਾਕੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ (ਪਦ ਵਿਖੇ) ਹੈ।
Gurmukhs attain the pleasure fruit only by losing their sense of ego

ਸਤਜੁਗਦਾਅਨਿਆਉਵੇਖਿਧਉਲਧਰਮੁਹੋਆਉਡੀਣਾ।
ਸਤਿਜੁਗ ਵਿਖੇ ਪਾਪ ਦੇ ਬਦਲੇ ਦੇਸ਼ ਨੂੰ ਪੀੜੀਦਾ ਵੇਖਕੇ ਧਰਮ ਬੈਲ ਉਦਾਸੀਨ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ।
Seeing the injustice of Satyug, dharma in the form of a bull got sad.
ਸੁਰਪਤਿਨਰਪਤਿਚਕ੍ਰਵੈਰਖਿਨਹੰਘਨਿਬਲਮਤਿਹੀਣਾ।
(ਅਜਿਹਾ ਕਿ) 'ਸੁਪਰਤ' (ਇੰਦ੍ਰ) ਤੇ ਚੱਕ੍ਰਵਰਤੀ ਰਾਜੇ ਬੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਨਾ ਸਕੇ, ਬਲ ਅਤੇ ਬੁੱਧੀ ਤੋਂ ਹੀਣਾ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ।
Even the king of gods, Indr, and other kings with vast empires, engrossed egoism, devoid of power and wisdom could not sust
ਤ੍ਰੇਤੇਖਿਸਿਆਪੈਰੁਇਕੁਹੋਮਜਗਜਗੁਥਾਪਿਪਤੀਣਾ।
ਤ੍ਰੇਤੇ ਜੁਗ ਵਿਖੇ ਧਰਮ ਬੈਲ ਦਾ ਇਕ ਪੈਰ ਖਿਸਕ ਗਿਆ; ਹੋਮ ਅਤੇ ਜੱਗਾਂ ਦਾ ਥਾਪ ਥਾਪ ਕੇ ਲੋਕ ਪਤੀਜ ਗਏ।
In Treta- its one foot slipped and now religious people started feeling satisfied by mere performance of the ceremonies of
ਦੁਆਪੁਰਿਦੁਇਪਗਧਰਮਦੇਪੂਜਾਚਾਰਪਖੰਡੁਅਲੀਣਾ।
ਦੁਆਪਰ ਵਿਖੇ ਧਰਮ ਦੇ ਦੋ ਪੈਰ ਘਟ ਗਏ; (ਲੋਕ) ਪੂਜਾ ਚਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਖੰਡਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਮਸਤ ਹੋ ਗਏ।
In Dvapar remained only two feet of dharma and now people began to remain absorbed only ritualistic worship.
ਕਲਿਜੁਗਰਹਿਆਪੈਰਇਕੁਹੋਇਨਿਮਾਣਾਧਰਮਅਧੀਣਾ।
ਕਲਜੁਗ ਵਿਖੇ ਇਕੋ ਪੈਰ ਰਹਿ ਗਿਆ, ਧਰਮ ਨਿਮਾਣਾ ਹੋਕੇ ਅਧੀਨ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ।
In Kaliyug, the dharma has only one feet and consequently has become quite feeble.
ਮਾਣੁਨਿਮਾਣੈਸਤਿਗੁਰੂਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਪਰਗਟਪਰਬੀਣਾ।
ਨਿਮਾਣਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਣ ਦੇਣ ਹਾਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ (ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ) ਨੇ ਪਰਬੀਣ (ਤਤ ਮਿਥ੍ਯਾ ਤੇ ਨ੍ਯਾਯ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਰੀਤ) ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਕੀਤੀ।
True Guru, the power of the powerless, has made it (dharma) manifest by and through creating the holy Icongretgations.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਧਰਮਸਪੂਰਣੁਰੀਣਾ।੧੮।
ਧਰਮ (ਜੋ) ਕਿਣਕੇ ਕਿਣਕੇ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਸੀ (ਉਹ) ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦਵਾਰੇ 'ਸੰਪੂਰਣ' (ਚਾਰ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਸਾਬਤ ਕਰ ਦਿਤਾ।
The gurmukhs have brought to perfection the dharma earlier reduced to dust.

ਚਾਰਿਵਰਨਿਇਕਵਰਨਕਰਿਵਰਨਅਵਰਨਸਾਧਸੰਗੁਜਾਪੈ।
ਚਾਰ ਵਰਣ (ਖਤ੍ਰੀ, ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ, ਸੂਦ, ਵੈਸ) ਦਾ ਇਕ ਵਰਣ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਵਰਣ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਅਵਰਣ ਹੋਵੇ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਹੀ ਜਾਣੀਦੇ ਹਨ।

ਛਿਅਰੁਤੀਛਿਅਦਰਸਨਾਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਦਰਸਨੁਸੂਰਜੁਥਾਪੈ।
ਛੀ ਰੁਤਾਂ (ਰੂਪੀ) ਛੀ ਦਰਸ਼ਨਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ (ਮਤ) ਸੂਰਜ ਵਾਂਙ ਸਥਾਪਨ ਹੋਇਆ।

ਇਹ ਪੰਥ ਵੇਦਾਂ ਕਤੇਬਾਂ ਥੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ ਹੈ, (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ) ਅਨਹਦ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦਵਾਰਾ 'ਅਗਮ' (ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ) ਦਾ ਹੀ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।

ਮਿਲਦੇਮੁਸਲਮਾਨਦੁਇਮਿਲਿਮਿਲਿਕਰਨਿਸਲਾਮਾਲੇਕੀ।
(ਜਦ) ਦੋ ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨ (ਆਪੋ ਵਿਚ) ਮਿਲਦੇ ਹਨ ਤਾਂ ਮਿਲ ਮਿਲਕੇ ਸਲਾਮਾ ਲੈਕਮ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
When two Muslims meet they greet each other by saying `Salam' (salamalaikum).
ਜੋਗੀਕਰਨਿਅਦੇਸਮਿਲਿਆਦਿਪੁਰਖੁਆਦੇਸੁਵਿਸੇਖੀ।

When yogis meet they exchange Wes salute to that ,primaeval Lord.
ਸੰਨਿਆਸੀਕਰਿਓਨਮੋਓਨਮਨਾਰਾਇਣਬਹੁਭੇਖੀ।
ਜਦ ਸੰਨ੍ਯਾਸੀ (ਆਪੋ ਵਿਚ ਟਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ) (ਇੱਕ) ਓਨਮ: ਕਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿ ਓਅੰ ਨੂੰ ਨਮਸਕਾਰ ਹੋਵੇ, ਦੂਜਾ) ਓਨਮੋ ਨਾਰਾਇਣ ਕਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਕਿ ਨਾਰਾਇਣ ਕੋ ਨਮਸਕਾਰ ਹੋਵੇ)।

ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ ਨੂੰ (ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਨਮਸਕਾਰ ਕਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਅਗੋਂ ਮੂੰਹ ਦੇਖਕੇ ਆਸ਼ੀਰਬਾਦ ਦਾ ਬਚਨ ਕਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਹੁਣ ਪੰਜਵੀਂ ਤੇ ਛੀਵੀਂ ਤੁਕ ਵਿਖੇ 'ਸਤਿਗੁਰ' ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਰਹੁ ਰੀਤ ਦੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ)।
When one bows before a brahmin, he also in view of the station of the person gives blessings accordingly.
ਪੈਰੀਪਵਣਾਸਤਿਗੁਰੂਗੁਰਸਿਖਾਰਹਰਾਸਿਸਰੇਖੀ।
('ਭਾਈ ਜੀ) ਪੈਰੀ ਪੈ' ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹ ਰੀਤ ਚਲਾਈ।

ਨੀਚਹੁਨੀਚੁਸਦਾਵਣਾਗੁਰਉਪਦੇਸੁਕਮਾਵੈਕੋਈ।
ਨੀਚ ਥੋਂ ਨੀਚ (ਆਪ ਨੂੰ) ਸਦਾਉਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ (ਪਰੰਤੂ ਇਹ) ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਦਾ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਕੋਈ ਹੀ ਕਮਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Any rare one practises the Guru's teaching of calling oneself the lowest among the lowly ones.
ਤ੍ਰੈਵੀਹਾਂਦੇਦੰਮਲੈਇਕੁਰੁਪਈਆਹੋਛਾਹੋਈ।
(ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟਾਂਤ) 'ਤ੍ਰੈਵੀਹਾਂ' (ਸੱਠ) ਪੈਸੇ (ਅਥਵਾ ਤੀਹ ਟਕੇ) ਦੇਕੇ ਇਕ ਰੁਪਈਆ ਲਈਏ ਤਾਂ (ਭਾਰ 'ਹੋਛਾ' ਅਰਥਾਤ) ਹੌਲਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਭਾਵ ਇਕ ਤੋਲਾ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਤਥਾ)
When a rupee is changed into sixty paisas, its power is scattered and it becames weak.
ਦਸੀਰੁਪਯੀਂਲਈਦਾਇਕੁਸੁਨਈਆਹਉਲਾਸੋਈ।
ਦਸ ਰੁਪਏ ਦੇਕੇ ਇਕ ਸੁਨਈਆ (ਮੋਹਰ) ਲਈਏ (ਦਸਵਾਂ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਭਾਰ ਹੋਰ) ਹਲਕਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
If gold-muhar (coin) is changed for ten rupees, it loses its value.
ਸਹਸਸੁਨਈਏਮੁਲੁਕਰਿਲੱਯੈਹੀਰਾਹਾਰਪਰੋਈ।
ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਮੋਹਰ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਲ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਇਕ ਹੀਰਾ ਲਈਏ ਉਹ (ਭਾਰ ਐਡਾ ਹੌਲਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਰਾਣੀਆਂ ਦੇ) ਹਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰੋਤਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
And if a diamond is obtained for one thousand coins, it becomes so light that it is stringed in a necklace (and is worn).
ਪੈਰੀਪੈਪਾਖਾਕਹੋਇਮਨਬਚਕਰਮਭਰਮਭਉਖੋਈ।
(ਅਜਿਹਾ ਹੀ) ਜੋ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਖਾਕ ਹੋਕੇ ਪੈਰੀਂ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਰ ਮਨ ਬਚ ਕਰਮ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਭਰਮ ਭਊ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਖਦੇ।
The man who by touching the feet and by becoming dust of the feet (of Guru) erases the illusions and fears of speech
ਹੋਇਪੰਚਾਇਣੁਪੰਜਿਮਾਰਬਾਹਰਿਜਾਦਾਰਖਿਸਗੋਈ।
ਸਤਿਸੰਗ ਵਿਖੇ (ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋਕੇ) ਪੰਜ ਇੰਦ੍ਰਯ (ਅਥਵਾ ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ ਵਿਖਯ) ਮਾਰਕੇ ਬਾਹਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ (ਮਨ) ਰੋਕ ਰਖੇ।
And actions from his mind and in the holy congregation wipes out the five evil propensities, he further restrains the mind
ਬੋਲਅਬੋਲੁਸਾਧਜਨਓਈ।੨੧।੨੩।ਤ੍ਰੇਈ।
ਉਹ ਸਾਧੂ (ਜਨ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਬੋਲ (ਮਹਿੰਮਾ) ਅਮੋਲ ਹੈ (ਹੀਰੇ ਤੋਂ ਬੀ ਵਧੀਕ ਮਹਿੰਗਾ ਹੈ)।
Such a one is a real sadhu (Gurmukh) and his words are ineffable.
