ਪਉੜੀ੧
ਆਦਿਪੁਰਖਆਦੇਸੁਹੈਸਤਿਗੁਰੁਸਚੁਨਾਉਸਦਵਾਇਆ।
ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖ (ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ ਜੀ) ਨੂੰ ਨਮਸਕਾਰ ਹੈ, (ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ) ਸਤਿਗੁਰਾਂ ਸੱਚਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਦਾਯਾ (ਭਾਵ 'ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਹਾਉਣਾ' ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਚ ਦਾ ਸ਼ੋਭਦਾ ਹੈ)।
Salutation to that primal Lord who is known by the true name of Satigura.
ਚਾਰਿਵਰਨਗੁਰਸਿਖਕਰਿਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸਚਾਪੰਥੁਚਲਾਇਆ।
ਚਾਰੋ ਵਰਣਾ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਸੱਚਾ ਪੰਥ ਚਲਾਯਾ ਹੈ।
Transforming all the four varnas into the Sikhs of the Guru, that true Guru (Gum Nanak Dev) has initiated a true way for the Gurmukhs.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਮਿਲਿਗਾਂਵਦੇਸਤਿਗੁਰੁਸਬਦੁਅਨਾਹਦੁਵਾਇਆ।
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਮਿਲਕੇ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਨੇ (ਜੋ) ਸ਼ਬਦਾਂ ਦੀ ਅਨਾਹਦ ਧੁਨੀ ਵਜਾਈ ਹੈ।
The true Guru has vibrated such an unstruck word which is sung in the holy congregation by one and all.
ਗੁਰਸਾਖੀਉਪਦੇਸੁਕਰਿਆਪਿਤਰੈਸੈਸਾਰੁਤਰਾਇਆ।
ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਸਾਖ਼ੀ ਹੋਕੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪ ਤਰਕੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਤਾਰਿਆ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ ਇਹ ਕਿ ਜੋ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਪਰ ਸਾਖੀ ਭਰੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਇਹ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਡਿੱਠਾ ਹੈ, ਠੀਕ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਆਪ ਤਰਿਆ ਹਾਂ ਤੇ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਕਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਸੁਣੀ ਸੁਣਾਈ ਬਾਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਖੀ)।
The Gurmukhs recite the teachings of the Guru; they go across and make the world go across (the world ocean).
ਪਾਨਸੁਪਾਰੀਕਥੁਮਿਲਿਚੂਨੇਰੰਗੁਸੁਰੰਗਚੜ੍ਹਾਇਆ।
(ਜਿਵੇਂ) ਪਾਨ ਸੁਪਾਰੀ, ਕੱਥ ਤਿੰਨੇ (ਥੋਕ) ਚੂਨੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਕੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਰੰਗ ਵਟਾ ਕੇ ('ਸਰੰਗ') ਲਾਲ ਰੰਗ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਤਿਹਾ ਹੀ ਚਾਰੇ ਵਰਣ ਮਿਲਕੇ ਇਕ ਗੁਰ ਸਿੱਖੀ ਦੇ ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਗਏ ਹਨ)।
As in betel leaf mixing of catechu, lime and betel nut makes a nice colour, similarly, gurmukh way of life consisting of all the four varnas is beautiful.
ਗਿਆਨੁਧਿਆਨੁਸਿਮਰਣਿਜੁਗਤਿਗੁਰਮਤਿਮਿਲਿਗੁਰਪੂਰਾਪਾਇਆ।
ਪੂਰਣ (ਗੁਰੂ ਗੁਰ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ) ਨੂੰ ਪਾਕੇ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਗੁਰਮਤ ਲੀਤੀ ਹੈ, ਗਿਆਨ ਧਿਆਨ ਅਤੇ ਸਿਮਰਣ ਦੀ ਜੁਗਤੀ (ਸਾਰੀ ਕਰ ਲੀਤੀ) ਹੈ, ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤ ਦਾ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੈਵੀ ਗੁਣ ਵਿਦਮਾਨ ਹਨ)।
He, who having met the perfect Gum has attained Gurmati; the wisdom of the Guru, has in fact identified the teachnique of knowledge, concentration and meditation.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਸਚਖੰਡੁਵਸਾਇਆ।੧।
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਦਾ ਸਚਖੰਡ (ਅਰਥਾਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਿਵਾਸਸਥਾਨ ਬੀ ਆਪ ਗੁਰ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਹੀ) ਵਸਾਯਾ ਹੈ।
The true Guru has established the abode of truth in the form of holy congregation.
ਪਉੜੀ੨
ਪਰਤਨਪਰਧਨਪਰਨਿੰਦਮੇਟਿਨਾਮੁਦਾਨੁਇਸਨਾਨੁਦਿੜਾਇਆ।
ਪਰ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ, ਪਰਧਨ, ਪਰਾਈ ਨਿੰਦਾ (ਦੇ ਵਿਕਾਰ) ਨੂੰ ਮੇਟਕੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾਨ, ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ (ਦੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਯਾ) ਦ੍ਰਿੜ੍ਹ ਕਰਾਈ ਹੈ।
Holding (me) back from other's body, wealth and slander, the true Guru, has made me resolute for the practice of meditation on Lord's name, ablution and charity.
ਗੁਰਮਤਿਮਨੁਸਮਝਾਇਕੈਬਾਹਰਿਜਾਂਦਾਵਰਜਿਰਹਾਇਆ।
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖ੍ਯਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਾਕੇ (ਵਿਯ੍ਯਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ) ਭਟਕਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਅੰਤਰਮੁਖ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।
People also making their minds understand through the teaching of the Gum have restrained it from going astray.
ਮਨਿਜਿਤੈਜਗੁਜਿਣਿਲਇਆਅਸਟਧਾਤੁਇਕਧਾਤੁਕਰਾਇਆ।
ਮਨ ਜਿੱਤ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਐਉਂ) ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਜਿਤ ਲੀਤਾ ਹੈ (“ਮਨ ਜੀਤੈ ਜਗੁ ਜੀਤੁ”॥) ਅੱਠਾਂ ਧਾਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਇਕ ਧਾਤ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ, (ਭਾਵ ਚਾਰੇ ਵਰਨ ਚਾਰੇ ਆਸ਼ਰਮ ਇਕ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਸਦਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ)।
As the eight metals touching the philosopher's stone become gold, similarly, the gurmukhs, having conquered their mind have conquered the whole world.
ਪਾਰਸਹੋਏਪਾਰਸਹੁਗੁਰਉਪਦੇਸੁਅਵੇਸੁਦਿਖਾਇਆ।
ਪਾਰਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿਖੇ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ('ਅਵੇਸ') ਘਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪਾਰਸ ਰੂਪ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ।
Such is the effect of the Guru's teaching that the Sikh acquires the same qualifies as if a stone by touching a philosopher's stone has itself become another philosopher's stone.
ਜੋਗਭੋਗਜਿਣਿਜੁਗਤਿਕਰਿਭਾਇਭਗਤਿਭੈਆਪੁਗਵਾਇਆ।
ਜੋਗ ਤੇ ਭੋਗ ਜੁਗਤੀ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਅਰਥਾਤ ਈਸ਼੍ਵਰ ਪਰਾਇਣ ਹੋਕੇ) ਜਿੱਤ ਲਏ ਹਨ, ਪ੍ਰੇਮਾ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪ ਗਵਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
Systematically, having won yoga as well as pleasures and getting immersed in devotion they have lost their fears.
ਆਪੁਗਇਆਆਪਿਵਰਤਿਆਭਗਤਿਵਛਲਹੋਇਵਸਗਤਿਆਇਆ।
ਆਪਾ ਭਾਵ ਦੇ ਜਾਣ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਰੇ ਆਪ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ) ਦਾ ਹੀ ਵਰਤਾਉ (ਜਾਣਦੇ) ਹਨ, ਭਗਤ ਵੱਛਲ (ਹਰੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ) ਅੰਗ ਸੰਗ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
When the ego vanished, God was not only realized as diffused all around, but also because of love for His devotees
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਵਿਚਿਅਲਖੁਲਖਾਇਆ।੨।
(ਅਜਿਹੀ) ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਖੇ ਅਲਖ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾਂ) ਦਾ ਗਿਆਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
He came under their control.
ਪਉੜੀ੩
ਸਬਦਸੁਰਤਿਮਿਲਿਸਾਧਸੰਗਿਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਦੁਖਸੁਖਸਮਕਰਿਸਾਧੇ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਖੇ ਮਿਲ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਸੁਰਤ ਨਾਲ ਦੁਖ ਅਤੇ ਸੁਖ ਸਮਾਨ ਜਾਣ ਕਰ ਸਾਧ ਲੀਤੇ ਹਨ (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਈਸ਼੍ਵਰ ਅਰਾਧਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਛੱਡਦੇ ਸਗਮਾਂ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਸੁਖ ਰੋਗ ਰੂਪ ਅਰ ਦੁਖ ਦਾਰੂ ਰੂਪ ਹਨ “ਦੁਖੁ ਦਾਰੂ ਸੁਖੁ ਰੋਗੁ ਭਇਆ ਜਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਤਾਮਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ”)॥
In the holy congregation, getting attuned to the Word, the gurmukh treats pains and joys in the same vein.
ਹਉਮੈਦੁਰਮਤਿਪਰਹਰੀਗੁਰਮਤਿਸਤਿਗੁਰਪੁਰਖੁਆਰਾਧੇ।
ਹਉਮੈ ਅਰ ਦੁਰਮਤ ਤਿਆਗ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਮਤ ਲੈਕੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪੁਰਖ (ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ) ਦਾ ਅਰਾਧਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
He renounces egotist ill thoughts and adopting the teachings of the true Guru adores the Timeless Lord.
ਸਿਵਸਕਤੀਨੋਲੰਘਿਕੈਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸੁਖਫਲੁਸਹਜਸਮਾਧੇ।
ਰਜੋ ਸਤੋ ਤਮੋ ਆਦਿਕ ਤਿੰਨੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਥੋਂ ਲੰਘਕੇ, ਗੁਰਮੁਖ, (ਸਤਿਰੂਪ) ਸੁਖ ਫਲ ਵਿਖੇ (ਭਾਵ ਤੁਰੀਆਂ ਪਦ ਵਿਖੇ) ਸਮਾਧੀ ਰਖਦੇ ਹਨ।
Going beyond the phenomena of the Siva-Sakti (maya), the Gurnzukh calmly merges in the fruits of delight.
ਗੁਰੁਪਰਮੇਸਰੁਏਕੁਜਾਣਿਦੂਜਾਭਾਉਮਿਟਾਇਉਪਾਧੇ।
ਗੁਰੂ ਅਤੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ਰ ਨੂੰ ਇਕ (ਰੂਪ) ਜਾਣਕੇ ਦੂਜੇ ਭਾਉ ਦੀ ਉਪਾਧੀ ਮਿਟਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ।
Considering Guru and God as one, he decimates the ills of the sense of duality.
ਜੰਮਣਮਰਣਹੁਬਾਹਰੇਅਜਰਾਵਰਿਮਿਲਿਅਗਮਅਗਾਧੇ।
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਅਰ ਬੁਢਾਪੇ (ਦੇ ਦੁਖ) ਤੋਂ ਰਹਿਤ ਹੋਕੇ (ਅਗਮ ਅਗਾਧ) ਮਨ ਬਾਣੀ ਥੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਆਤਮਾ ਵਿਖੇ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
Gurmukhs go out of the cycle of transmigration and meeting that unapproachable and unfathomable Lord go away from the impacts of time (oldage).
ਆਸਨਤ੍ਰਾਸਉਦਾਸਘਰਿਹਰਖਸੋਗਵਿਹੁਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਖਾਧੇ।
ਆਸਾ ਤੇ ਭੈ ਥੋਂ ਘਰ ਵਿਖੇ ਹੀ ਉਦਾਸ ਰਹਿਕੇ ਹਰਖ ਤੇ ਸੋਗ, ਵਿਖੇ ਅਤੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ (ਇਕ ਰੂਪ ਕਰਕੇ) ਧਾਰਣ ਕੀਤੇ ਹਨ।
Hopes and fears do not torture them. They reside in home while being detached and to them nectar or poison, happiness and sorrows are all the same.
ਮਹਾਅਸਾਧਸਾਧਸੰਗਸਾਧੇ।੩।
ਮਹਾਂ ਅਸਾਧ (ਉਕਤ ਸੁਖ ਦੁਖ, ਹਰਖ ਤੇ ਸੋਗਾਦਿਕ ਜੋ) ਸਾਧੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ (ਵਿਖੇ ਮਿਲ ਕਰਕੇ) ਸਾਧ ਲੀਤੇ ਹਨ (“ਸੁਖੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਦੋਨੋ ਸਮਕਰਿ ਜਾਨੈ ਅਉਰੁ ਮਾਨੁ ਅਪਮਾਨਾ॥ ਹਰਖ ਸੋਖ ਤੇ ਰਹੈ ਅਤੀਤਾ ਤਿਨਿ ਜਗਿ ਤਤੁ ਪਛਾਨਾ”)।
In the holy congregation, the frightening chronic ailments are also cured.
ਪਉੜੀ੪
ਪਉਣੁਪਾਣੀਬੈਸੰਤਰੋਰਜਗੁਣੁਤਮਗੁਣੁਸਤਗੁਣੁਜਿਤਾ।
ਪਵਣ, ਜਲ, ਅਗਨੀ ਜੋ ਕਿ ਰਜੋ, ਸਤੋ, ਤਮੋ, (ਕ੍ਰਮ ਨਾਲ ਤਿੰਨੇ) ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ (ਰੂਪ ਹਨ) ਜਿੱਤ ਲੀਤੇ ਹਨ।
Air, water, fire and the three qualities – tranquillity, activity and inertness have been conquered by the Sikh.
ਮਨਬਚਕਰਮਸੰਕਲਪਕਰਿਇਕਮਨਿਹੋਇਵਿਗੋਇਦੁਚਿਤਾ।
ਮਨ ਬਚ ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਕਲਪ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਤਿਆਗ ਕੇ ਭਾਵ ਅਭਿਮਾਨ ਤੋਂ ਰਹਿਤ ਹੋ) ਇਕ ਮਨ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ (ਪੰਚ ਤਤ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਸਰੀਰ ਤੋਂ ਨਿਕਲਕੇ ਉਨਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਗਏ, “ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਲੈ ਜਉ ਉਨਿਮਨ ਰਹੈ॥ ਤਉ ਤੀਨਿ ਲੋਕ ਕੀ ਬਾਤੇ ਕਹੈ॥” ਇਕ ਮਨ ਦਾ ਕੀ ਰੂਪ ਹੈ?) ਦੂਜੀ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਛੱਡ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ।
With the concentration of mind, speech, action and meditating upon the One, he has lost the sense of duality.
ਲੋਕਵੇਦਗੁਰਗਿਆਨਲਿਵਅੰਦਰਿਇਕੁਬਾਹਰਿਬਹੁਭਿਤਾ।
ਗੁਰੁ ਦੇ ਗ੍ਯਾਨ ਦੀ ਲਿਵ ਹੀ (ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ) ਲੋਕ ਤੇ ਵੇਦ ਹੈ, ਅੰਦਰੋਂ (ਮਨ ਕਰਕੇ) ਇਕ ਰੂਪ ਅਰ ਬਾਹਰੋਂ (ਬਹੁ ਭਿਤਾ) ਬਹੁਤ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ ਲੋਕ ਪਛਾਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੇ, ਸਭ ਨਾਲ ਮਿੱਠਾ ਵਰਤਦੇ ਹਨ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਨਿਰਮੋਹ ਹਲ। “ਦੀਸਿ ਆਵਤ ਹੈ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਭੀਹਾਲਾ॥ ਸਗਲ ਚਰਨ ਕੀ ਇਹੁ ਮਨ ਰਾਲਾ”)।
Absorption in the knowledge of the Guru is his conduct in the world. In his innerself he is One (with the Lord) while he performs diverse duties in the world.
ਮਾਤਲੋਕਪਾਤਾਲਜਿਣਿਸੁਰਗਲੋਕਵਿਚਿਹੋਇਅਥਿਤਾ।
ਇਸ ਲੋਕ ਅਰ ਪਾਤਾਲ ਦੇ (ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਜਿਤ ਲੀਤਾ ਹੈ, ਸੁਰਗ ਲੋਕ (ਦੇ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬੀ) ਚਾਰ ਦਿਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਰਾਹੁਣੇ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ (ਜਾਂ ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਵਿਚ 'ਅਥਿੱਤਾ=' ਪੂਜਨੀਕ ਹਨ।)
Conquering the earth and the nether world he establishes himself in heavens.
ਮਿਠਾਬੋਲਣੁਨਿਵਿਚਲਣੁਹਥਹੁਦੇਕਰਿਪਤਿਤਪਵਿਤਾ।
ਮਿੱਠਾ ਬੋਲਦੇ, ਨਿਵਕੇ ਚਲਦੇ ਤੇ ਹਥੋਂ ਦੇਕੇ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਥੋਂ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਅਥਵਾ ਪਾਪੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬੀ ਹੱਥੋਂ ਦਾਨ ਦੇਕੇ)।
By speaking sweetly, behaving humbly and bestowing charities with one's own hands, even the fallen ones have become pure.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸੁਖਫਲੁਪਾਇਆਅਤੁਲੁਅਡੋਲੁਅਮੋਲੁਅਮਿਤਾ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਨੇ ('ਸੁਖ ਫਲ') ਆਤਮ ਫਲ ਪਾ ਲੀਤਾ ਹੈ (ਉਹ ਕਿਹਾ ਫਲ ਹੈ?) ਅਤੁਲ, ਅਡੋਲ, ਅਮੋਲ, ਅਤੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਹੈ।
Thus, the gurmukh attains incomparable and invalauable fruits of delight.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਮਿਲਿਪੀੜਿਨਪਿਤਾ।੪।
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਮਿਲਕੇ (ਮਨ ਨੂੰ) ਪੀੜਕੇ (ਰਾਗ ਦ੍ਵੈਖ ਦਾ) ਪਿੱਤਾ (ਕੱਢ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਭਾਵ ਨਿਰਹੰਕਾਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਧ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ)।
Associating with the holy congregation he squeezes out the ego (from the mind).
ਪਉੜੀ੫
ਚਾਰਿਪਦਾਰਥਹਥਜੋੜਿਹੁਕਮੀਬੰਦੇਰਹਨਿਖੜੋਤੇ।
ਚਾਰੇ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਹਥ ਜੋੜ ਹੁਕਮੀ ਬੰਦੇ (ਹੋਕੇ) ਖੜੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
The four ideals (dharma, arth, ktim, moks) stand w'th folded hands around the obedient servant (of the Lord).
ਚਾਰੇਚਕਨਿਵਾਇਆਪੈਰੀਪੈਇਕਸੂਤਿਪਰੋਤੇ।
ਚਾਰੇ ਚੱਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਿਵਾ ਲੀਤਾ ਹੈ (ਕੀ ਕਰਕੇ? ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਜਿਸਨੇ ਇਕ ਸੱਤਾ ਦੇ) ਸੁਤ ਵਿਖੇ ਸਭ ਨੂੰ ਪਰੋਤਾ ਹੈ (ਉਸਦੀ) ਪੈਰੀਂ ਪੈਕੇ!
This servant has made the four directions bow to him by bowing to One who has strung one and all into one thread.
ਵੇਦਨਪਾਇਨਿਭੇਦੁਕਿਹੁਪੜਿਪੜਿਪੰਡਿਤਸੁਣਿਸੁਣਿਸ੍ਰੋਤੇ।
ਵੇਦ ਬੀ ਕੁਛ ਭੇਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕੇ, ਪੜ੍ਹ ਪੜ੍ਹ ਪੰਡਤ ਤੇ ਸੁਣ ਸੁਣ ਸ੍ਰੋਤੈ (ਹਾਰ ਗਏ, ਜਾਣਦੇ ਕੀ ਹਨ?)
The Vedas, the reciter pandits of the Vedas and their audience cannot understand His mystery.
ਚਹੁਜੁਗਿਅੰਦਰਜਾਗਦੀਓਤਿਪੋਤਿਮਿਲਿਜਗਮਗਜੋਤੇ।
ਚਾਰ ਜੁਗਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜਗਮਗ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੀ) ਜੋਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਬਾਹਰ ਜਗ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ।
His ever radiant flame glows in all the four yugso ages.
ਚਾਰਿਵਰਨਇਕਵਰਨਹੋਇਗੁਰਸਿਖਵੜੀਅਨਿਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਗੋਤੇ।
ਚਾਰ ਵਰਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਇੱਕ ਵਰਣ ਹੋਕੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਹੋਕੇ ਆਪਣ ਗੋਤ੍ਰ ਵਿਖੇ ਮਿਲ ਬੈਠਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਭਾਵ ਜਾਤਾਭਿਮਾਨ ਛੱਡਕੇ ਅਦ੍ਯਤ ਗੋਤ੍ਰੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ)।
The Sikhs of all the four vamas became one varna and they have entered the (larger) clan of Gurmukhs.
ਧਰਮਸਾਲਵਿਚਿਬੀਜਦੇਕਰਿਗੁਰਪੁਰਬਸੁਵਣਜਸਓਤੇ।
ਧਰਮਸਾਲਾ ਵਿਖੇ ਗੁਰਪੁਰਬਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸਫਲਾ ਵਣਜ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ ਗੁਰੁ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਪਾਠਾਦਿਕ ਸਬਦ ਚੌਂਕੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਜੋੜ ਮੇਲ ਕਰਵਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ)।
They at the abodes of dharma (Gurdvaras) celebrate anniversaries of the Gurus and thus sow the seeds of virtuous actions.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਮਿਲਿਦਾਦੇਪੋਤੇ।੫।
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਖੇ ਦਾਦੇ ਪੋਤਰੇ ਮਿਲਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਭਾਵ, ਸਿਖਾਂ ਪੁਤਾਂ ਭਾਈਆਂ ਭਾ ਇਕੋ ਜੇਹਾ)।
In the holy congregation the grandson and the grandfather (i.e. young and old) are equal to each other.
ਪਉੜੀ੬
ਕਾਮਕ੍ਰੋਧੁਅਹੰਕਾਰਸਾਧਿਲੋਭਮੋਹਦੀਜੋਹਮਿਟਾਈ।
ਕਾਮ, ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਅਤੇ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਜਿੱਤਕੇ ਲੋਭ, ਮੋਹ ਦੀ ਤਾੜ ਮਿਟਾ ਦਿਤੀ ਹੈ (ਕਿ ਵਿਸ਼ਯ ਬਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਉਂਦੇ)।
Sikhs in sadh sangat (holy company) controlling the kam (lust) krodh (anger), ahatilair ego), decimate their greed and infatuation.
ਸਤੁਸੰਤੋਖੁਦਇਆਧਰਮੁਅਰਥੁਸਮਰਥੁਸੁਗਰਥੁਸਮਾਈ।
ਸਤਿ, ਸੰਤੋਖ, ਦਇਆ, ਧਰਮ ਅਤੇ ਅਰਥ ਦੀ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਸਮਰੱਥਾ ਸਮਾ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ, (ਭਾਵ ਪੰਜੇ ਗੁਣ ਸਦਾ ਪੂਰਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ)।
In the holy congregation, truth contentment, compassion, dharma, wealth, power all are subsumed.
ਪੰਜੇਤਤਉਲੰਘਿਆਪੰਜਿਸਬਦਵਜੀਵਾਧਾਈ।
ਪੰਜੇ ਤੱਤ (ਅਪ, ਤੇਜ, ਵਾਯੂ, ਪ੍ਰਿਥਵੀ ਅਤੇ ਅਕਾਸ਼) ਥੋਂ ਲੰਘ ਗਏ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਪੁਰ ਕੋਈ ਤੱਤ ਬਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ) ਪੰਜੇ ਸ਼ਬਦਾਂ ਦੀ ਵਧਾਈ ਵੱਜ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ।
Crossing the five elements, the felicitation of the five words (instruments) are. played there.
ਪੰਜੇਮੁਦ੍ਰਾਵਸਿਕਰਿਪੰਚਾਇਣੁਹੁਇਦੇਸਦੁਹਾਈ।
ਪੰਜੇ ਮੁੰਦ੍ਰਾਂ (ਜੋਗ ਮੱਤ ਦੀਆਂ ਖੇਚਰੀ, ਭੂਚਰੀ, ਚਾਚਰੀ, ਉਨਮਨੀ ਅਤੇ ਭੁਯੰਗਮੀ) ਵੱਸ ਕਰ ਲੀਤੀਆਂ ਹਨ (ਅਥਵਾ ਪੰਜ ਗ੍ਯਾਨ ਇੰਦ੍ਰੀਆਂ; ਇਸ ਲਈ) ਪੰਚਾਇਣ (ਸ਼ਿਰੋਮਣੀ ਪੰਚ) ਹੋਕੇ ਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿਖੇ (ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ) ਦੁਹਾਈ ਮਿਲ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ (ਪ੍ਰਸਿੱਧ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ)।
Having controlled five yogic postures, the respectable member of the congregation become famous all around.
ਪਰਮੇਸਰਹੈਪੰਜਮਿਲਿਲੇਖਅਲੇਖਨਕੀਮਤਿਪਾਈ।
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਪੰਜਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਵਿਖੇ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਯਥਾ:-'ਇਕ ਸਿਖ ਦੋਇ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗ ਪੰਜੀਂ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ') ਉਹ ਲੇਖੇ ਥੋਂ ਅਲੇਖ ਹੈ, ਕੀਮਤ ਕਿਸੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਤੀ।
Where the five persons sit together, Lord God, is there; this mystery of indescribable Lord cannot be known.
ਪੰਜਮਿਲੇਪਰਪੰਚਤਜਿਅਨਹਦਸਬਦਸਬਦਿਲਿਵਲਾਈ।
ਪੰਜ (ਕਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਮਿਲੇ? (ਜਦ 'ਪਰਪੰਚ') ਛਲ ਵਲ ਛੱਡ ਦਿਤਾ ਤੇ ਅਨਾਹਦ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ।
But only those five meet (to sit together) who repudiating hypocrisy have merged their consciousness in the unstruck melody of the Word.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਸੋਹਨਿਗੁਰਭਾਈ।੬।
ਐਉਂ (ਇਕ ਲਿਵ ਵਾਲੇ ਹੋਕੇ) ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਰਭਾਈ ਸ਼ੋਭਦੇ ਹਨ।
Such fellow-disciples adome the holy congregation.
ਪਉੜੀ੭
ਛਿਅਦਰਸਨਤਰਸਨਿਘਣੇਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸਤਿਗੁਰੁਦਰਸਨੁਪਾਇਆ।
ਛੀ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ (ਜੋਗੀ ਜੰਗਮਾਦਿਕ) ਘਣੇ ਤਰਸਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ (ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ) ਦਾ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਹੋਵੇ? (ਪਰੰਤੂ ਓਹ) ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Followers of six (Indian. philosophies) crave intensely but only gurmukh gets the glimpse of the Lord.
ਛਿਅਸਾਸਤ੍ਰਸਮਝਾਵਣੀਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਗੁਰੁਉਪਦੇਸੁਦਿੜਾਇਆ।
ਛੀ ਸ਼ਾਸਤ੍ਰ (ਪਾਠੀ ਬੀ ਬਾਹਲੀਆਂ) ਸਮਝਾਵਣੀਆਂ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਪਰੰਤੂ) ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦ੍ਰਿੜ੍ਹ ਕਰਾਇਆ ਹੈ।
The six Shastras make one understand in a round about manner but gurmukhs make the teachings of the Guru firmly lodged in the heart.
ਰਾਗਨਾਦਵਿਸਮਾਦਵਿਚਿਗੁਰਮਤਿਸਤਿਗੁਰਸਬਦੁਸੁਣਾਇਆ।
ਛੀ ਰਾਗਾਂ (ਦੇ ਗਵੱਯੇ ਬੀ) ਹੈਰਾਨ ਹੋ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ (ਪਰ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ) ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਗੁਰੂ (ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀ) ਸਿਖਿਆ ਲੀਤੀ ਹੈ (ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਇਹ) ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦਾ ਸਿੱਧਾਂਤ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਹੈ।
All the musical measures and melodies are wonder-struck to feel that
ਛਿਅਰੁਤੀਕਰਿਵਰਤਮਾਨਸੂਰਜੁਇਕੁਚਲਤੁਵਰਤਾਇਆ।
ਛੇ ਰੁਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਵਰਤਮਾਨ ਹੋ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਹਨ (ਸਭ ਵਿਚ) ਸੂਰਜ ਇਕੋ ਹੋਣ ਦਾ ਚਲਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਵਰਤ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
The true Guru is such as the one sun remains stabilized in all the six seasons.
ਛਿਅਰਸਸਾਉਨਪਾਇਨੀਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸੁਖੁਫਲੁਪਿਰਮੁਚਖਾਇਆ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਜੋ ਪਿਆਰ ਦੇ ਸੁਖ ਫਲ ਦਾ ਰਸ ਚੱਖਿਆ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਦਾ) ਸੁਆਦ ਛੀ ਰਸ ਬੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕੇ (ਭਾਵ ਖਟ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ਦੇ ਰਸ ਬੀ ਹੈਰਾਨ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਅਸੀਂ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਅਨੰਦਦਾਇਕ ਨਹੀਂ)।
Such a pleasure-fruit has been attained by Gurmukhs, the taste of which could not be known by six pleasures.
ਜਤੀਸਤੀਚਿਰੁਜੀਵਣੇਚਕ੍ਰਵਰਤਿਹੋਇਮੋਹੇਮਾਇਆ।
ਜਤੀ, ਸਤੀ, ਚਿਰ ਜੀਵਣੇ, ਚੱਕ੍ਰਵਰਤੀ ਰਾਜੇ, ਮਾਯਾ ਵਿਖੇ ਮੋਹਤ ਹੀ ਰਹੇ।
Anchorites, followers of truth, long lived ones and universally acclaimed ones are all engrossed in delusions.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਮਿਲਿਸਹਜਿਸਮਾਇਆ।੭।
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਖੇ ਮਿਲਣਹਾਰੇ (ਗੁਰਮੁਖ) ਸਹਿਜ ਪਦ ਵਿਖੇ ਸਮਾਂ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
Only joining the holy congregation, one could be absorbed in one's innate nature.
ਪਉੜੀ੮
ਸਤਸਮੁੰਦਸਮਾਇਲੈਭਵਜਲਅੰਦਰਿਰਹੇਨਿਰਾਲਾ।
ਸਤ ਸਮੁੰਦ (ਪੰਜ ਗਿਆਨ ਇੰਦ੍ਰੇ ਤੇ ਮਨ ਬੁੱਧੀ) ਵਸੀਕਾਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਖੇ ਅਲੇਪ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
Gurmukhs moving in the holy congregation and having controlled the seven seas remain detached in this world ocean.
ਸਤੇਦੀਪਅਨ੍ਹੇਰਹੈਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਦੀਪਕੁਸਬਦਉਜਾਲਾ।
ਸਤੇ ਦੀਪਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਹਨੇਰਾ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀਪ ਦਾ ਉਜਾਲਾ (ਚਾਨਣਾ) ਹੈ।
All the seven continents are in darkness; gurmukh enlightener them by lamp of Word.
ਸਤੇਪੁਰੀਆਸੋਧੀਆਸਹਜਪੁਰੀਸਚੀਧਰਮਸਾਲਾ।
ਸਤੇ ਪੁਰੀਆਂ (ਸਤ ਭੂਮਕਾ) ਨੂੰ ਸਾਧ ਕੇ 'ਸਹਜ ਪੁਰੀ' ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਰੂਪੀ ਸਚੀ ਧਰਮਸਾਲਾ ਬਣਾਈ, (ਸਤਿਸੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਸਭ ਪੁਰੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਲੇਖਾ ਛੁਟ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ)।
The gurmukh has reformed all the seven purls (abodes of gods), and has found that only the state of equipoise is the real abode of truth.
ਸਤੇਰੋਹਣਿਸਤਵਾਰਸਾਧੇਫੜਿਫੜਿਮਥੇਵਾਲਾ।
ਸੱਤੇ ਰੋਹਣੀ (ਆਦਿ ਨਿਖੱਤ੍ਰ) ਸੱਤ ਵਾਰ ਸਿਰੋਂ ਫੜਕੇ ਸਾਧ ਲੀਤੇ (ਭਾਵ ਕੋਈ ਬਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ, ਵਹਿਮਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਹੋਏ)।
All the major nakstrs such as Sva-ti etc, and the seven days, he has controlled by holding them from their heads i.e. he has gone beyond their deceptions.
ਤ੍ਰੈਸਤੇਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡਿਕਰਿਵੀਹਇਕੀਹਉਲੰਘਿਸੁਖਾਲਾ।
ਤ੍ਰੈ ਸੱਤੇ (ਇੱਕੀ ਪੁਰੀਆਂ ਦੇ) ਬ੍ਰਹਿਮੰਡ ਥੋਂ ਅਰ ਵੀਹ ਇਕੀ (ਆਦਿਕ ਗਿਣਤੀਆਂ) ਥੋਂ ਲੰਘ ਕੇ ਸੁਖੀ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ।
Twenty-one cities and their ostentations he has crossed and he lives happily (in his self).
ਸਤੇਸੁਰਭਰਪੂਰੁਕਰਿਸਤੀਧਾਰੀਪਾਰਿਪਿਆਲਾ।
ਸੱਤੇ ਸੁਰਾਂ (ਸਾ, ਰੇ, ਗਾ, ਮਾ, ਪਾ, ਧਾ, ਨੀ) ਨੂੰ (ਨਾਮ ਨਾਲ) ਲਬਾਲਬ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸਤ ਧਾਰ (ਪਹਾੜ ਥੋਂ, ਭਾਵ ੭ ਮਤਾਂ ਥੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਪਏ ਹਨ (ਕੀ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ?)
He has known the comprehensiveness of the seven melodies (of music) and he has crossed the seven streams of the mountains.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਗੁਰਸਬਦਸਮਾਲਾ।੮।
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਖੇ ਮਿਲਕੇ ਗੁਰ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਭਾਲਣਾਂ (ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ) ਹੈ।
This could be possible because he has sustained and accomplished the Word of the Guru in the holy congregation.
ਪਉੜੀ੯
ਅਠਖੰਡਿਪਾਖੰਡਮਤਿਗੁਰਮਤਿਇਕਮਨਿਇਕਧਿਆਇਆ।
ਅਠੇ ਖੰਡ (ਜੋਗੀਆਂ ਦੇ) (ਅਥਵਾ ਚਾਰ ਵਰਨ, ਚਾਰ ਆਸ਼੍ਰਮ, ਅਠੇ ਪੰਥ) ਪਖੰਡ ਵਿਖੇ (ਫਸੇ ਹੋਏ) ਹਨ, (ਪਰ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤ ਲੀਤੀ ਹੈ, ਇਕ ਮਨ ਹੋਕੇ ਇਕ (ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ) ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।
The person conducting in accordance with the wisdom of the Guru, goes beyond the hypocrisies of eight division (of four varnas and four ashramas) and adores the Lord with single minded devotion.
ਅਸਟਧਾਤੁਪਾਰਸਮਿਲੀਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਕੰਚਨੁਜੋਤਿਜਗਾਇਆ।
ਅੱਠ ਧਾਤਾਂ (ਜੇਹੜੀਆਂ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ) ਪਾਰਸ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਸੋਨੇ ਦੀ ਜੋਤ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ, (ਭਾਵ ਅੱਠ ਪੰਥ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ)।
Eight metals in the form of four vamas and four religions having met the philosopher's stone in the form of Guru have convereted themselves into gold, the gurmukh, the enlightened one.
ਰਿਧਿਸਿਧਿਸਿਧਸਾਧਿਕਾਂਆਦਿਪੁਰਖਆਦੇਸੁਕਰਾਇਆ।
ਰਿੱਧੀਆਂ ਸਿੱਧੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਸਿੱਧ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਧਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦਾ ਨਮਸਕਾਰ ਕਰਤਾ (ਸੇਵਕ) ਬਣਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
The siddhs and other miraculous practitioners have saluted to that primal Lord alone.
ਅਠੈਪਹਰਅਰਾਧੀਐਸਬਦਸੁਰਤਿਲਿਵਅਲਖੁਲਖਾਇਆ।
ਅੱਠੇ ਪਹਿਰ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਉਪਾਸ਼ਨਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸ਼ਬਦ ਸੁਰਤ ਦੀ 'ਲਿਵ' ਸਮਾਧੀ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਅਲਖ ਦੀ ਲੱਖਤਾ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ।
That Lord ought to be adored all the eight watches of time; by merger of the consciousness in the Word, the imperceptible is perceived.
ਅਸਟਕੁਲੀਵਿਹੁਉਤਰੀਸਤਿਗੁਰਮਤਿਨਮੋਹੇਮਾਇਆ।
ਅੱਠ ਕੁਲੀ (ਸੱਪਾਂ ਦੀ) ਵਿਹੁ ਉਤਰ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, (ਭਾਵ ਕੁਲਾਭਿਮਾਨ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ (ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ) ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖ੍ਯਾ ਦੇ (ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪ) ਨਾਲ ਮਾਯਾ ਵਿਖੇ ਮੋਹਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੇ।
By adopting the advice of the true Gum, the poison (stigma) of the eight generations is wiped out and now the intellect does not get deluded due to maya.
ਮਨੁਅਸਾਧੁਨਸਾਧੀਐਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸੁਖਫਲੁਸਾਧਿਸਧਾਇਆ।
ਮਨ 'ਅਸਾਧ' (ਅਰਥਾਤ) ਵੱਸ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ, ਪਰੰਤੂ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਸੁਖੈਨ ਹੀ ਸਿੱਧ ਕਰ ਕੇ 'ਸਧਾਯਾ' (ਆਤਮਾ ਵਿਖੇ) ਲੀਨ ਕੀਤਾ।
The gurmukhs by their loving devotion have refined the incorrigible mind.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਮਿਲਿਮਨਵਸਿਆਇਆ।੯।
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਖੇ ਮਿਲਿਆਂ ਮਨ ਕਾਬੂ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ('ਮਨੁ ਵਸਿ ਆਵੈ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਜੇ ਪੂਰਨ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਹੋਇ॥' ਅਰਥਾਤ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਪੂਰੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਨ ਵਸੀਕਾਰ ਹੇਠ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਖੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਲਈ ਇਹੀ ਮੁਖ ਸਾਧਨ ਹੈ)।
The mind is controlled only by meeting the holy congregation.

ਨਉਪਰਕਾਰੀਭਗਤਿਕਰਿਸਾਧੈਨਵੈਦੁਆਰਗੁਰਮਤੀ।
ਨਵਧਾ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਨਵੇਂ ਦੁਆਰੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਕੇਵਲ ਪ੍ਰੇਮਾ ਭਗਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਨੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮੱਤ ਲੈਕੇ ਸਾਧ ਲੀਤੇ ਹਨ।
People adopt ninefold devotion but the gurmukh while adopting the wisdom of Guru accomplishes the nine doors.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਪਿਰਮੁਚਖਾਇਆਗਾਵੈਜੀਭਰਸਾਇਣਿਰਤੀ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਜੀਭ (ਪਿਰਮ ਰਸਾਇਣ) ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਰਸ ਚੱਖਣ ਵਿਖੇ ਰੱਤੀ ਹੋਈ (ਉਸੇ ਦਾ ਜੱਸ) ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ। ('ਰਸਨਾ ਰਾਮ ਰਸਾਇਨਿ ਮਾਤੀ')।
Tasting the joy of love, the Gurmukh with full attachment, recites the praises of the Lord.
ਨਵੀਖੰਡੀਜਾਣਾਇਆਰਾਜੁਜੋਗਜਿਣਿਸਤੀਅਸਤੀ।
ਰਾਜ ਜੋਗ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਅਸਤੀ (ਭਲੇ ਬੁਰੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ) ਨੂੰ ਜਿੱਤਕੇ ਨਵਾਂ ਖੰਡਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ (ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪ) ਵਿਦਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਅੱਗੇ ਕੋਈ ਦਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਾਰ ਸਕਿਆ)।
Through Rajyoga, the gurmukh has conquered both the truth and the falsehood and thus he is known all over the nine regions of the earth.
ਨਉਕਰਿਨਉਘਰਸਾਧਿਆਵਰਤਮਾਨਪਰਲਉਉਤਪਤੀ।
ਨਵਾ ਕਲਾਂ (ਅਰਥਾਤ ਪੁਰਖ, ਪ੍ਰਕ੍ਰਿਤ, ਹੰਕਾਰ ਵਾਲੇ) ਨਵੇਂ ਘਰ (ਸੰਸਾਰ) ਵਿਖੇ (ਤਿੰਨ ਕਾਲਾਂ) ਵਰਤਮਾਨ, ਪਰਲੋ ਤੇ ਉਤਪਤੀ ਨੁੰ ਸਿੱਧ ਕਰ ਲੀਤਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨੋਂ ਰਹਿਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ)।
Becoming humble he has disciplined the nine doors and besides he has diffused himself in creation and dissolution.
ਨਵਨਿਧੀਪਿਛਲਗਣੀਨਾਥਅਨਾਥਸਨਾਥਜੁਗਤੀ।
ਨਵੇਂ ਨਿਧੀਆਂ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਲੱਗ ਤੁਰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ; ਨਾਥਾਂ ਅਨਾਥਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਨਾਥ (ਕ੍ਰਿਤਾਰਥ) ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਜੁਗਤੀ ਹੈ। (ਭਾਵ ਜੀਭ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪ ਨਾਲ ਏਹ ਪਦਵੀ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ, ਹੁਣ ਛੀਵੀਂ ਤੇ ਸੱਤਵੀਂ ਤੁਕ ਵਿਖੇ ਖੋਲ੍ਹਕੇ ਲਿਖਦੇ ਹਨ)।
The nine treasures follow him earnestly and the gurmukh unfolds to the nine naths, the technique of getting liberated.
ਨਉਉਖਲਵਿਚਿਉਖਲੀਮਿਠੀਕਉੜੀਠੰਢੀਤਤੀ।
ਨਵਾ 'ਉਖਲਾਂ' (ਗੋਲਕਾਂ) ਵਿਖੇ ('ਜੀਭ ਦੀ ਉਖਲੀ') ਗੋਲਕ ਮਿੱਠੀ ਕੌੜੀ ਤੇ ਠੰਢੀ ਤੱਤੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ (ਜਦ ਠੰਢੀ ਸੀਤਲ ਵਾਕ ਬੋਲਦੀ ਹੈ ਤਾ ਮਿੱਠੀ ਤੱਤੇ ਵਾਕ ਬੋਲਣ ਵਿਖੇ ਕੌੜੀ ਭਾਸਤੀ ਹੈ)।
Among the nine sockets (in the humanbody), the tongue which was bitter, sweet, hot and cool, now
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਗੁਰਮਤਿਸਣਖਤੀ।੧੦।
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਖੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ('ਮੱਤ') ਸਿੱਖਯਾ ਬੋਲਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਜੀਭ (ਸਣਖੱਤੀ) ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ (ਅਥਵਾ ਸੋਹਾਗਵਤੀ) ਹੈ।
Due to the association with the holy congregation and the wisdom of Guru, has become blest and full of delights.
ਪਉੜੀ੧੧
ਦੇਖਿਪਰਾਈਆਂਚੰਗੀਆਂਮਾਵਾਂਭੈਣਾਂਧੀਆਂਜਾਣੈ।
ਪਰਾਈਆਂ ('ਚੰਗੀਆਂ') ਸੁਹਣੀਆਂ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ ਵੱਲ ਦੇਖਕੇ (ਯਥਾ ਯੋਗ) ਮਾਵਾਂ, ਭੈਣਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਧੀਆਂ ਤੁੱਲ ਜਾਣੇ।
The Sikh ought to treat beautiful women of others as his mothers, sisters, and daughters.
ਉਸੁਸੂਅਰੁਉਸੁਗਾਇਹੈਪਰਧਨਹਿੰਦੂਮੁਸਲਮਾਣੈ।
ਪਰਾਇਆ ਧਨ ਹਿੰਦੂ (ਦੇ ਭਾਣੇ) ਗਊ ਅਰ ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨ ਲਈ ਸੂਅਰ ਦੇ ਤੁੱਲ ਹੈ (ਯਥਾ-”ਹਕੁ ਪਰਾਇਆ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਉਸ ਸੂਅਰ ਉਸੁ ਗਾਇ॥”)
Others' wealth for him is as beef for Hindu and pork for a Muslim.
ਪੁਤ੍ਰਕਲਤ੍ਰਕੁਟੰਬੁਦੇਖਿਮੋਹੇਮੋਹਿਨਧੋਹਿਧਿਙਾਣੈ।
ਪੁਤ੍ਰ, ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਕੋੜਮਾ ਦੇਖਕੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਖੇ ਮੋਹਤ ਨਾ ਹੋਵੇ, ਫਰੇਬ ਅਤੇ (ਧਿਙਾਣਾ) ਜ਼ਬਰਦਸਤੀ (ਕਿਸੇ ਪਰ) ਨਾਂ ਕਰੇ।
Out of infatuation for his son, wife or family, he should not betray and deceive anyone.
ਉਸਤਤਿਨਿੰਦਾਕੰਨਿਸੁਣਿਆਪਹੁਬੁਰਾਨਆਖਿਵਖਾਣੈ।
ਉਸਤਤ ਅਰ ਨਿੰਦਾ (ਜਦ ਪਰਾਈ) ਸੁਣ ਬੈਠੇ ਤਦੋਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਆਪ ਥੋਂ ਬੁਰਾ ਨਾ ਆਖੇ, (ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਬੁਰਾ ਆਖੇ, ਭਾਵ ਆਪ ਨੁੰ ਹੀ ਬੁਰਾ ਸਮਝੇ:- “ਕਬੀਰ ਸਭ ਤੇ ਹਮ ਬੁਰੇ ਹਮ ਤਜਿ ਭਲੋ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ”॥)
While listening to the praises and slander of others, he should not talk ill of anybody.
ਵਡਪਰਤਾਪੁਨਆਪੁਗਣਿਕਰਿਅਹੰਮੇਉਨਕਿਸੈਰਾਣੈ।
ਆਪ ਨੁੰ ਵੱਡ ਪਰਤਾਪੀ ਨਾ ਮੰਨੇ ਅਰ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਦੁੱਖ ਨਾ ਦੇਵੇ (ਫਲ ਕੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ?)।
Neither he should count himself as great and glorious nor should he out of his ego, snub anybody.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸੁਖਫਲਪਾਇਆਰਾਜੁਜੋਗੁਰਸਰਲੀਆਮਾਣੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਖਫਲ ਸ੍ਵੈ ਸਰੂਪ ਦਾ ਅਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਰਾਜ ਜੋਗ ਦੇ ਅਨੰਦ ਅਤੇ ਖੁਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਮਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ।
Gurmukh of such a nature practises Raj yoga (the highest yoga), lives peacefully a
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਵਿਟਹੁਕੁਰਬਾਣੈ।੧੧।
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ੳਤੋਂ ਕੁਰਬਾਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਜਿਥੋਂ ਏਹ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਲਭਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ)।
And goes to sacrifice his self unto the holy congregation.
ਪਉੜੀ੧੨
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਪਿਰਮੁਚਖਾਇਆਭੁਖਨਖਾਣੁਪੀਅਣੁਅੰਨੁਪਾਣੀ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਰਸ ਨੂੰ 'ਚਖਿਆ' (ਇਸ ਲਈ ਹੋਰ) ਅੰਨ ਪਾਣੀ ਦੇ ਖਾਣ ਪੀਣ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹੀ।
The gurmukh having tasted the joy of love feels no desire for food and ink.
ਸਬਦਸੁਰਤਿਨੀਂਦਉਘੜੀਜਾਗਦਿਆਂਸੁਖਰੈਣਿਵਿਹਾਣੀ।
ਸ਼ਬਦ ਸੁਰਤ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਅਵਿੱਦਯਾ ਦੀ) ਨੀਂਦ ਉਘੜ ਗਈ ਹੈ, ਜਾਗਦੇ ਹੋਏ (ਸਾਵਧਾਨੀ ਕਰਕੇ) ਸੁਖ ਨਾਲ (ਅਵਸਥਾ ਦੀ) ਰਾਤ ਬੀਤਦੀ ਹੈ।
Due to the merger of his consciousness in the Word, he gets no eep and by getting awake, he spends his night delightfully.
ਸਾਹੇਬਧੇਸੋਹਦੇਮੈਲਾਪੜਪਰਵਾਣੁਪਰਾਣੀ।
ਗਾਨੇ ਬੱਧੇ (ਹੋਏ ਲਾੜੇ ਵਾਂਙੂੰ) ਸ਼ੋਭਦੇ (ਹਨ, ਭਾਵੇ) ਮੈਲਾ ਭੇਸ ਭੀ ਰੱਖਣ (ਤਦ ਭੀ ਸਾਰੇ) ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀਆਂਨੁੰ ਪਰਵਾਨ ਹਨ। (“ਜਿਨੁ ਪਟੁ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਗੁਦੜੁ ਤੇ ਭਲੇ ਸੰਸਾਰਿ”)॥
As for a few ays before marriage, the bride and the bridegroom look beautiful even in gs, the gurmukhs also remain adorned.
ਚਲਣੁਜਾਣਿਸੁਜਾਣਹੋਇਜਗਮਿਹਮਾਨਆਏਮਿਹਮਾਣੀ।
ਗਿਆਨਵਾਨੁ ਚਲਣਾ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਜਗਤ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਹੁਣਚਾਰੀ ਵਿਖੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਹੁਣੇ ਹੋਕੇ ਆਏ ਹੋਏ ਹਾਂ।
Since they understand the mystery f going from the world, they live like guests in the world (who must sooner r later go).
ਸਚੁਵਣਜਿਖੇਪਲੈਚਲੇਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਗਾਡੀਰਾਹੁਨੀਸਾਣੀ।
ਸੱਚੇ ਵਣਜ ਦੀ ਖੇਪ ਨੁੰ ਲੈ ਚਲਦੇ ਹਨ, ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਗਾਡੀ ਰਾਹ ਦੀ (ਇਹੋ) ਨੀਸਾਣੀ ਹੈ, (ਕਿ ਸਚ ਤੇ ਪਰਪੱਕ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ)।
Being familiar with the highway of the wisdom of the Guru, Gurmukhs move on it with full load of the truthful merchandise.
ਹਲਤਿਪਲਤਿਮੁਖਉਜਲੇਗੁਰਸਿਖਗੁਰਸਿਖਾਂਮਨਿਭਾਣੀ।
ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਮੂੰਹ ਉੱਜਲੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ) ਗੁਰ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰ ਸਿਖੀ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਲਗਦੀ ਹੈ।
The Sikhs ove the teachings of the Guru and their faces remain bright in this and in the world hereafter.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਵਿਚਿਅਕਥਕਹਾਣੀ।੧੨।
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਖੇ 'ਅਕਥ' (ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ) ਦੀ ਕਹਾਣੀ (ਕਥਾ) ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ। (ਅਗਲੀ ਪੌੜੀ ਵਿਖੇ ਵਿਸਥਾਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ:)
Always in the holy congregation, the ineffable story of the grandeur of) the Lord is told.
ਪਉੜੀ੧੩
ਹਉਮੈਗਰਬੁਨਿਵਾਰੀਐਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਰਿਦੈਗਰੀਬੀਆਵੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖ (ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੇ) ਰਿਦੇ ਵਿਖੇ ਗਰੀਬੀ ਦਾ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਹਉਮੈ ਅਰ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਨਿਵਿਰਤ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
Repudiating pride and ego a gurmukh should be humble.
ਗਿਆਨਮਤੀਘਟਿਚਾਨਣਾਭਰਮਅਗਿਆਨੁਅੰਧੇਰੁਮਿਟਾਵੈ।
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਗਿਆਨ ਸਿੱਖਯਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਘਟ ਵਿਖੇ ਚਾਨਣਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅੱਗਯਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਭਰਮ ਦਾ ਅੰਧੇਰਾ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
With the light of knowledge in his mind he should dispel darkness of ignorance and delusions.
ਹੋਇਨਿਮਾਣਾਢਹਿਪਵੈਦਰਗਹਮਾਣੁਨਿਮਾਣਾਪਾਵੈ।
ਨਿਮਾਣਾ ਹੋਕੇ (ਗੁਰਮੁਖ) ਡਿੱਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਫਲ ਇਹ ਕਿ) ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਖੇ (ਉਹ) ਨਿਮਾਣਾ ਆਦਰ ਪਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
He should fall on the feet (of Lord) in humility because only the humble are honoured in the court of the Lord.
ਖਸਮੈਸੋਈਭਾਂਵਦਾਖਸਮੈਦਾਜਿਸੁਭਾਣਾਭਾਵੈ।
ਪਰਮੇਸਰ ਨੂੰ ਉਹੀ (ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ) ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ਰ ਦਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ।
Master also loves that man who loves the will of the master.
ਭਾਣਾਮੰਨੈਮੰਨੀਐਆਪਣਾਭਾਣਾਆਪਿਮਨਾਵੈ।
ਭਾਣਾ ਮੰਨੇ ਤਾਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਮੰਨੀਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਪਰੰਤੂ) ਆਪਣਾ ਭਾਣਾ (ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ) ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮਨਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
One who accepts the will of God is accepted by one understands that he is a guest in this world;
ਦੁਨੀਆਵਿਚਿਪਰਾਹੁਣਾਦਾਵਾਛਡਿਰਹੈਲਾਦਾਵੈ।
ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਖੇ (ਆਪ ਨੂੰ) ਪਰਾਹੁਣਾ ਜਾਣਕੇ ਦਾਵਾ ਛਡਕੇ ਬੇਦਾਵੇ ਹੋ ਰਹੇ।
That is why foregoing all claims, he lives without making any claim for himself.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਮਿਲਿਹੁਕਮਿਕਮਾਵੈ।੧੩।
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਖੇ ਮਿਲਕੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਨੂੰ ਕਮਾਵੇ (ਮੰਨੇ; ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਉਂਥੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਦੀ ਰੀਤਿ ਕਥਨ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਅੱਗੇ ਹੋਰ ਇਸੇ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਗ ਨੂੰ ਖੋਲ੍ਹਦੇ ਹਨ)।
Being in the holy congregation, he acts in consonance with the commands of the Lord.
ਪਉੜੀ੧੪
ਗੁਰੁਪਰਮੇਸਰੁਇਕੁਜਾਨਿਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਦੂਜਾਭਾਉਮਿਟਾਇਆ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖ (ਲੋਕਾਂ) ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਅਤੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ਰ ਨੁੰ ਇਕ (ਰੂਪ) ਜਾਣਕੇ ਦੂਜੇ ਭਾਵ ਦਾ ਖੁਰਾ ਖੋਜ ਮਿਟਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
Accepting Guru and God as one, the gurmukh has erased the sense of duality.
ਹਉਮੈਪਾਲਿਢਹਾਇਕੈਤਾਲਨਦੀਦਾਨੀਰੁਮਿਲਾਇਆ।
ਹਉਮੈ ਦੀ ਕੰਧ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਤਲਾਉ ਤੇ ਨਦੀ ਦਾ ਪਾਣੀ ਇੱਕ ਕੀਤਾ (ਭਾਵ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਲ ਦਿੱਤਾ)।
Knocking down the wall of ego, the gurmukh has united the pond (self) with the river (Brahm).
ਨਦੀਕਿਨਾਰੈਦੁਹਵਲੀਇਕਦੂਪਾਰਾਵਾਰੁਨਪਾਇਆ।
ਨਦੀ ਦੇ ਕਿਨਾਰੇ ਦੇ ਦੋ ਪਾਸਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਪਾਰ ਉਰਾਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਇਆ।
Undoubtedly the river remains contained within its two banks neither one knowing the other.
ਰੁਖਹੁਫਲੁਤੈਫਲਹੁਰੁਖੁਇਕੁਨਾਉਫਲੁਰੁਖੁਸਦਾਇਆ।
ਬ੍ਰਿੱਛ ਥੋਂ ਫਲ, ਫਲ ਥੋਂ ਬ੍ਰਿੱਛ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਆਦਿ ਕਾਰਣ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਪਿਆ) ਫਲ ਅਤੇ ਬ੍ਰਿੱਛ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਇਕੋ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
From tree the fruit and from fruit the e are born and in fact both are one though they have different names.
ਛਿਅਰੁਤੀਇਕੁਸੁਝਹੈਸੁਝੈਸੁਝੁਨਹੋਰੁਦਿਖਾਇਆ।
ਛੀਆਂ ਰੁਤਾ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਸੂਰਜ ਇਕੋ ਹੈ, ਸੂਰਜ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਨੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ (ਭਾਵ ਆਪਣੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਥੋਂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ਮਾਨ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ)।
The sun is one in all the six seasons; knowing this, one does not think of different suns.
ਰਾਤੀਂਤਾਰੇਚਮਕਦੇਦਿਹਚੜਿਐਕਿਨਿਆਖੁਲੁਕਾਇਆ।
ਰਾਤ ਨੂੰ ਤਾਰੇ ਚਮਕਦੇ ਹਨ ਦਿਨ (ਸੂਰਜ) ਦੇ ਚੜ੍ਹਨ ਨਾਲ ਦੱਸੋ ਕਿਸ ਨੇ ਲੁਕਾ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ? (ਭਾਵ ਆਪੇ 'ਤੇਜ' ਚਾਨਣੇ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਛਿਪ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ)।
At night the stars twinkle but with the break of day under whose command they hide themselves? (they automatically go and likewise with light of knowledge the darkness of ignorance is dispelled of its own).
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਇਕਮਨਿਇਕੁਧਿਆਇਆ।੧੪।
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਨੇ ਇਕ ਮਨ ਹੋਕੇ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ (ਏਸ ਲਈ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾਂ ਰੂਪ ਸੂਰਜ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਦੇ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਸੰਦੇਹ ਰੂਪੀ ਤਾਰੇ ਅੱਗਯਾਨ ਦੇ ਅੰਧੇਰੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਨਾਸ਼ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ)।
The holy congregation, the gurmukhs adore the Lord with single-minded devotion.

ਗੁਰਸਿਖਜੋਗੀਜਾਗਦੇਮਾਇਆਅੰਦਰਿਕਰਨਿਉਦਾਸੀ।
ਗੁਰਸਿੱਖ ਜੋਗੀ ਲੋਕ (ਸਦਾ) ਜਾਗਦੇ ਹਨ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਰਹਿਕੇ ਉਦਾਸ ਭਾਵ ਰਖਦੇ ਹਨ (ਸਾਵਧਾਨ ਵਿਚਾਰਵਾਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ)। (ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਮੁੰਦ੍ਰਾਂ ਕਿਹੜੀਆਂ ਹਨ?)
Yogi Sikhs of the Guru are ever awake and remain detached amidst maya.
ਕੰਨੀਂਮੁੰਦਰਾਂਮੰਤ੍ਰਗੁਰਸੰਤਾਂਧੂੜਿਬਿਭੂਤਸੁਲਾਸੀ।
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਮੰਤ੍ਰਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਹੀ ਕੰਨਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਮੁੰਦ੍ਰਾਂ ਧਾਰੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਅਰ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਚਰਣ ਧੂੜ ਦੀ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਬਿਭੂਤ ਮਲਦੇ ਹਨ।
Gurumantr for them is the earring and the dust of the feet of saints is ashes for them.
ਖਿੰਥਾਖਿਮਾਹੰਢਾਵਣੀਪ੍ਰੇਮਪਤ੍ਰਭਾਉਭੁਗਤਿਬਿਲਾਸੀ।
ਖਿਮਾ ਦੀ ਖਿੰਥਾ (ਖੱਫਣੀ) ਹੰਢਾਉਂਦੇ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦੇ 'ਪਾਤ੍ਰ' ਵਿਖੇ 'ਭਾਉ' ਗਿਆਨ ਦੀ ਭੁਗਤ ਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ।
Forgiveness is their patched blanket, love their begging bowl and devotion is their trumpet (sitig),
ਸਬਦਸੁਰਤਿਸਿੰਙੀਵਜੈਡੰਡਾਗਿਆਨੁਧਿਆਨੁਗੁਰਦਾਸੀ।
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ 'ਸੁਰਤ' ਸਿੰਙੀ ਵਜਾਉਂਦੇ, ਗਿਆਨ ਦਾ ਹੱਥ ਵਿਖੇ ਡੰਡਾ ਰਖਦੇ ਹਨ, ('ਧਿਆਨ ਗੁਰਦਾਸੀ') ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਧਿਆਨ ਦੀ 'ਦਾਸੀ' (ਭੰਡਾਰਨ) ਨਾਲ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
Knowledge is their staff, and obedience to the Guru is their meditation.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਗੁਰਗੁਫੈਬਹਿਸਹਜਿਸਮਾਧਿਅਗਾਧਿਨਿਵਾਸੀ।
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗ਼ਤ ਰੂਪੀ ਗੁਫਾ ਵਿਚ ਬੈਠਕੇ 'ਸਹਜ ਸਮਾਧ' ਦੇ ਡੂੰਘੇ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ਹੋ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ (ਸਦਾ ਚੌਥੀ ਭੂਮਿਕਾ ਵਿਖੇ ਮਸਤ ਹਨ। ਫਲ ਕੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ?)
Sitting in the cave in the form of holy congregation, they reside in unfathomable equipoise.
ਹਉਮੈਰੋਗਅਰੋਗਹੋਇਕਰਿਸੰਜੋਗੁਵਿਜੋਗਖਲਾਸੀ।
ਹਉਮੈ ਦੇ ਰੋਗ ਥੋਂ ਅਰੋਗ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ, ਸੰਜੋਗ ਅਤੇ ਵਿੰਜੋਗ (ਦੋ ਚੇਲੇ 'ਖਲਾਸੀ') ਸੇਵਕ ਹਨ (ਸੰਜੋਗ ਅਤੇ ਵਿੰਜੋਗ ਤੋਂ ਛੁਟਕਾਰਾ ਪਾ ਗਏ ਹਨ ਆਪ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦੇ ਦ੍ਵੰਦਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਸਾਰੇ ਤੋਂ ਛੁੱਟ ਕੇ ਇਕ ਅਰਥਾਤ ਯਥਾਰਥ ਵਿਚ ਪਹੁੰਚੇ ਹਨ)।
Getting cured of the ailment of ego, they are liberated from the bonds of comings and goings (birth and death).
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਗੁਰਮਤਿਸਾਬਾਸੀ।੧੫।
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਖੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਸ਼ਾਬਾਸ਼ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ, (ਭਾਵ ਈਸ਼੍ਵਰ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨਤਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ)।
Holy congregation is applauded because of the wisdom of the Guru that resides in it.

ਲਖਬ੍ਰਹਮੇਲਖਵੇਦਪੜਿਨੇਤਨੇਤਕਰਿਕਰਿਸਭਥਕੇ।
ਲੱਖਾਂ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੇਂ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਵੇਦਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੜ੍ਹ ਪੜ੍ਹ ਕੇ (ਓੜਕ ਨੂੰ) ਨੇਤਿ ਨੇਤਿ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਹਾਰਕੇ ਥੱਕ ਗਏ।
Millions of Brahmas, reciting millions of Vedas got tired saying nett nett )(this is not, this is not).
ਮਹਾਦੇਵਅਵਧੂਤਲਖਜੋਗਧਿਆਨਉਣੀਦੈਅਕੇ।
ਸ਼ਿਵ ਸਰੀਖੇ ('ਅਵਧੂਤ') ਯੋਗੀ ਲੋਕ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਹੀ ਯੋਗ ਦੇ ਧਿਆਨ ਵਿਖੇ ਰਾਤ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਗ੍ਰਣ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੀ ਅੱਕ ਗਏ।
Mahadev and millions of recluses are also fed up with sleeplessness of yogic practice.
ਲਖਬਿਸਨਅਵਤਾਰਲੈਗਿਆਨਖੜਗੁਫੜਿਪਹੁਚਿਨਸਕੇ।
ਲੱਖਾਂ ਵਿਸ਼ਨੂੰ ਅਵਤਾਰ ਧਾਰਕੇ ਧਿਆਨ ਦੀ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਹਥ ਵਿਚ ਲੈ ਕੇ (ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਤੋੜੀ) ਪਹੁੰਚ ਨਾ ਸੱਕੇ (ਭਾਵ ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਵੈਰੀ ਨਾ ਮਾਰ ਸਕੇ)।
Becoming millions of incarnations, Visnu even catching hold of the double edged sword of knowledge could not reach Him.
ਲਖਲੋਮਸੁਚਿਰਜੀਵਣੇਆਦਿਅੰਤਿਵਿਚਿਧੀਰਕਧਕੇ।
ਲੱਖਾਂ ਲੋਮਸ (ਰਿਖੀ ਜਿਹੇ) ਚਿਰੰਜੀਵੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਆਦ ਥੋਂ ਲੈਕੇ ਅੰਤ ਤੀਕ ਧੀਰਜ ਵਿਖੇ ਧੱਕੇ ਹੀ ਖਾਧੇ
Millions of long lived rishi such as Lomas despite their fortitude are, ultimately jostled about.
ਤਿਨਿਲੋਅਜੁਗਚਾਰਿਕਰਿਲਖਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡਖੰਡਕਰਢਕੇ।
(ਸਤਯੁਗ ਆਦਿਕ) ਯੁਗ, ਲੱਖਾਂ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡ ਅਤੇ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਖੰਡ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ (ਢੱਕੇ ਅਰਥਾਤ) ਆਪਣੇ ਹੱਥ ਨਾਲ ਕੱਜੇ (ਭਾਵ ਵਸੀਕਾਰ ਕਰ ਛੱਡੇ) ਹਨ।
That Lord has covered with His 'self, all the three worlds, four ages, millions of universes and their divisions, i.e.
ਲਖਪਰਲਉਉਤਪਤਿਲਖਹਰਹਟਮਾਲਾਅਖਿਫਰਕੇ।
ਲੱਖਾਂ ਪਰਲਉ, ਲੱਖਾਂ ਉਤਪਤੀਆਂ 'ਹਰਹਟ ਮਾਲਾ' (ਟਿੰਡਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਾਲਾ ਵਾਂਗੂੰ) ਅੱਖ ਫਰਕਣ ਵਿਖੇ ਹੇਠ ਉਤੇ ਹੁੰਦੀਆਂ ਰਹਿੰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ।
He is bigger than these all. Millions of creations and dissolutions go on moving like the chain of pots on persian wheel and all this is enacted within the time of the fall of an eyelid.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਆਸਕੁਹੋਇਤਕੇ।੧੬।
(ਐਸੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ) ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ (ਵਿਚ) ਪ੍ਰੇਮੀ ਹੋਕੇ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕਰੋ।
If someone becomes lover of the ,holy congregation, only then he can understand this mystery
ਪਉੜੀ੧੭
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮਪੂਰਨਬ੍ਰਹਮਆਦਿਪੁਰਖਹੈਸਤਿਗੁਰੁਸੋਈ।
ਨਿਰਗੁਣ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਨੇ ਹੀ ('ਪੂਰਣ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ') ਸਗੁਣ ਮੂਰਤੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਹੈ, ਓਹ ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ (ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ) ਹੈ।
Transcendental Brahm is the perfect Brahm; He is the primal cosmic spirit (purakh) and the true Guru.
ਜੋਗਧਿਆਨਹੈਰਾਨੁਹੋਇਵੇਦਗਿਆਨਪਰਵਾਹਨਹੋਈ।
(ਉਸ ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਉਣ ਲਈ) ਜੋਗ ਧਿਆਨ ਹੈਰਾਨ ਹੋਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਵੇਦਾਂ ਦੇ ਗ੍ਯਾਨ ਦੀ ਪਰਵਾਹ ਬੀ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ। (“ਨਾ ਤੂੰ ਆਵਹਿ ਵਸਿ ਬੇਦ ਪੜਾਵਣੇ॥”)।
Yogis became awestruck in meditation for He does not care for knowledge of the Vedas.
ਦੇਵੀਦੇਵਸਰੇਵਦੇਜਲਥਲਮਹੀਅਲਭਵਦੇਲੋਈ।
ਦੇਵੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਦੇਵਤੇ ਸੇਂਵਦੇ ਹਨ, ਅਤੇ ਜਲਾਂ ਥਲਾਂ ਪਤਾਲਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਲੋਕ ਭੌਂਦੇ ਹੋਏ,
Adoring the gods and goddesses, people go on roaming (in different lives) in water on earth and in the sky.
ਹੋਮਜਗਜਪਤਪਘਣੇਕਰਿਕਰਿਕਰਮਧਰਮਦੁਖਰੋਈ।
ਹੋਮ, ਜੱਗ, ਜਪ, ਤਪ, ਆਦਿ ਬਹੁਤੇ ਕਰਮ ਧਰਮ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਦੁਖਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਰੋਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
They perform many burnt offerings, oblations and ascetic disciplines and still weep while performing the so-called ritualistic activities (because their sufferings are not removed).
ਵਸਿਨਆਵੈਧਾਂਵਦਾਅਠੁਖੰਡਿਪਾਖੰਡਵਿਗੋਈ।
(ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਮਨ) ਦੌੜਦਾ ਕਾਬੂ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ, (ਇਸ ਕਰਕੇ) ਚਾਰ ਵਰਣ, ਚਾਰ ਆਸ਼੍ਰਮ ਪਖੰਡ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਪਿੱਛੋਂ ਖਰਾਬ ਹੀ ਹੋਏ, (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਮਨ ਵੱਸ ਆਏ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖ ਕੀਕੂੰ ਲੱਭੇ)?
Ever-running mind does not come under control and the mind has spoiled all the eight divisions of life (four varnas and four ashrams).
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਮਨੁਜਿਣਿਜਗੁਜਿਣੈਆਪੁਗਵਾਇਆਪੇਸਭਕੋਈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਨੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਜਿੱਤਣ ਨਾਲ ਜਗਤ ਜਿੱਤ ਲੀਤਾ ਹੈ, (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ “ਮਨ ਜੀਤੈ ਜਗ ਜੀਤੁ॥”) (ਸੋ) ਆਪਾ ਭਾਵ ਗੁਆਉਣ ਨਾਲ ਸਭ ਕੋਈ ਆਪਣਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
The gurmukhs after conquering the mind have won the whole world and losing their ego, they have seen themselves in one and all.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਗੁਣਹਾਰੁਪਰੋਈ।੧੭।
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਹਾਰ ਪਰੋਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
The gurmukhs have prepared the garland of virtues in the holy congregation.

ਅਲਖਨਿਰੰਜਨੁਆਖੀਐਰੂਪਨਰੇਖਅਲੇਖਅਪਾਰਾ।
ਅਲਖ, ਨਿਰੰਜਨ, ਰੂਪ, ਰੇਖ ਰਹਿਤ, ਅਲੇਖ, ਅਪਾਰ ਕਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ (ਓਹ ਕਿਸੇ ਲੇਖੇ ਵਿਖੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਆ ਸਕਦਾ)।
The imperceptible and blemishless Lord is said to be beyond all the forms and writs.
ਅਬਿਗਤਿਗਤਿਅਬਿਗਤਿਘਣੀਸਿਮਰਣਿਸੇਖਨਆਵੈਵਾਰਾ।
ਉਸ ਦੀ ਗਤੀ ਘਣੀ ਅਬਿਗਤ ਹੈ (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਜੀਭ ਵਾਲੇ) ਸੇਖਨਾਗ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਣ ਕਰਣ ਵਿਖੇ ਪਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਗਦਾ।
The nature of that unmanifest Lord is also deeply unmanifest, and in spite of continuous recitations by Sesanffg His mystery could not be understood.
ਅਕਥਕਥਾਕਿਉਜਾਣੀਐਕੋਇਨਆਖਿਸੁਣਾਵਣਹਾਰਾ।
ਕਥਨ ਥੋਂ ਅਕੱਥ ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ ਆਖਕੇ ਸੁਣਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ, (ਫੇਰ ਕਿਉਂ ਕਰ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਜਾਵੇ?)
How can His ineffable story be known because none is there to tell it.
ਅਚਰਜੁਨੋਆਚਰਜੁਹੋਇਵਿਸਮਾਦੈਵਿਸਮਾਦੁਸੁਮਾਰਾ।
ਅਚਰਜ ਨੂੰ ਅਚਰਜ ਅਰ ਵਿਸਮਾਦ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਕਰਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਿਸਮਾਦ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਪਰੰਤੂ)
Thinking about Him, the wonder also feels itself full of wonder and the awe also becomes awe struck.
ਚਾਰਿਵਰਨਗੁਰੁਸਿਖਹੋਇਘਰਬਾਰੀਬਹੁਵਣਜਵਪਾਰਾ।
ਚਾਰ ਵਰਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਗੁਰ ਸਿੱਖ ਘਰ ਬਾਰੀ ਹੋਕੇ ਬਾਹਲੇ ਵਣਜ ਤੇ ਵਪਾਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਭਾਵ ਓਹ ਘਰ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਹੀ ਲੱਭ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ)।
Becoming the Sikh of the Guru the people of all the four varnas leading the household life,
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਆਰਾਧਿਆਭਗਤਿਵਛਲੁਗੁਰੁਰੂਪੁਮੁਰਾਰਾ।
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਖੇ ਮਿਲਕੇ ਭਗਤ ਵਛਲ 'ਮੁਰਾਰੀ' (ਹੰਕਾਰ ਨਾਸ਼ਕ) ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਰੂਪ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਅਰਾਧਦੇ ਹਨ।
Have undertaken to perform various types of business and trade.
ਭਵਸਾਗਰੁਗੁਰਿਸਾਗਰਤਾਰਾ।੧੮।
ਸੰਸਾਰ ਸਾਗਰ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਦਾ ਤਾਰਾ ਹੈ।
In the holy congregations, they adore the Guru-God, affectionate towards the devotees, and the Guru gets them go across the world-ocean.

ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੁਏਕੰਕਾਰੁਹੋਇਓਅੰਕਾਰਿਅਕਾਰੁਅਪਾਰਾ।
ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਏਕੰਕਾਰ (ਅਰਥਾਤ ਏਕਾਂਗ) ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਧਾਰਿਆ ਹੈ, (ਉਸ ਥੋਂ) ਓਅੰਕਾਰ ਦਾ ਅਕਾਰ ਅਪਾਰਾ (ਰੂਪ) ਧਾਰਿਆ ਹੈ।
The formless Lord assuming the form of ekarikcir created myriad names and forms out of Oankar.
ਰੋਮਰੋਮਵਿਚਿਰਖਿਓਨੁਕਰਿਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡਕਰੋੜਿਪਸਾਰਾ।
ਕੋਟਾਨੁਕੋਟ, ਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡਾਂ ਦਾ ਪਸਾਰਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਇਕ ਇਕ ਰੋਮ ਵਿਖੇ ਰੱਖ ਛਡਿਆ ਹੈ।
In His each trichome He has kept the expanse of crores of universes.
ਕੇਤੜਿਆਂਜੁਗਵਰਤਿਆਅਗਮਅਗੋਚਰੁਧੁੰਧੂਕਾਰਾ।
ਕਈ ਜੁਗਾ ਵਿਖੇ, ਅਗਮ ਥੋਂ ਅਗਮ ਹਨੇਰ ਗੁਬਾਰ ਵਰਤ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ (ਤਦਨੰਤਰ)
None knows for how many yugs, ages, there was imperceptible and impenetrable mist.
ਕੇਤੜਿਆਂਜੁਗਵਰਤਿਆਕਰਿਕਰਿਕੇਤੜਿਆਂਅਵਤਾਰਾ।
ਕਈ ਜੁਗਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਕਈ ਅਵਤਾਰ ਕਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਨੇ) ਪਸਾਰੇ ਕੀਤੇ।
For many ages continued the activities of many an incarnation (of God).
ਭਗਤਿਵਛਲੁਹੋਇਆਇਆਕਲੀਕਾਲਪਰਗਟਪਾਹਾਰਾ।
ਭਗਤ ਵਛਲ ਹੋਕੇ (ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਯਾਰਾ ਗੁਰ ਅਵਤਾਰ) ਆਯਾ ਤੇ ਕਲਜੁਗ ਦੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਵਿਖੇ (ਆਪਣਾ) ਪਸਾਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ(ਭਾਵ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਰੱਛਾ ਕਰਣ ਲਈ ਗੁਰੂ ਅਵਤਾਰ ਧਾਰਣ ਕੀਤਾ)।
The same God, for the sake of his love for the devotees, has appeared in Kalijug (in the form of Guru).
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਵਸਗਤਿਹੋਆਓਤਿਪੋਤਿਕਰਿਪਿਰਮਪਿਆਰਾ।
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਦੇ ਵਸੀਕਾਰ ਵਿਖੇ ਹੋਕੇ ਓਤਪੋਤ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਪਿਰਮ ਤੇ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਇਕ ਰੂਪ ਹੋਏ (ਭਾਵ “ਜੋ ਪਿਰੀ ਸੋ ਪਿਆਰਾ, ਜੋ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਸੋ ਪਿਰੀ” ਇਕ ਜੋਤ ਦੋ ਮੂਰਤਾਂ ਹਨ। ਜਾਣਦਾ ਕੌਣ ਹੈ?)
Being like warp and weft and the lover and the beloved one He, controlled by the holy congregation, resides there in.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸੁਝੈਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰਾ।੧੯।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ) ਸੁਝਦਾ ਹੈ।
Only gurmukh possesses the knowledge of that creator Lord.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਮੂਰਤਿਪਰਗਟੀਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸੁਖਫਲੁਸਬਦਵਿਚਾਰਾ।
(ਜਦ) ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ (ਨਾਨਕ ਨੇ) ਅਵਤਾਰ ਧਾਰਨ ਕੀਤਾ (ਤਦੋਂ) 'ਗੁਰਮੁਖ' (ਗੁਰ ਅੰਗਦ) ਨੇ ਸਬਦ ਰੂਪੀ ਸੁਖ ਫਲ ਦਾ ਵਿਚਾਰ (ਅੱਭ੍ਯਾਸ) ਕੀਤਾ।
With the emergence of the true Guru, the gurmukhs got the pleasure fruit of the pondering upon the Word.
ਇਕਦੂਹੋਇਸਹਸਫਲੁਗੁਰੁਸਿਖਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਓਅੰਕਾਰਾ।
ਇਕ ਫਲ (ਦੀ ਕੀ ਵਟੀਂਦੀ ਹੈ) ਹਜ਼ਾਰਾਂ ਫਲ ਹੋ ਗਏ, (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ) ਗੁਰਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਖੇ ਓਅੰਕਾਰ (ਦਾ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਹੈ ਅਰ ਓਅੰਕਾਰ ਹੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੇ ਮੂਲ ਕਾਰਣ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਵਾਚਕ ਹੈ 'ਓਅੰਕਾਰਿ ਸੈਲ ਜੁਗ ਭਏ')।
From that one Oankar, thousands of fruits emerged in the form of Gum, Sikh, and holy congregation.
ਡਿਠਾਸੁਣਿਆਮੰਨਿਆਸਨਮੁਖਿਸੇਵਿਰਲੇਸੈਸਾਰਾ।
(ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾ) ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਜਾਂ ਨਾਮ ਸ਼੍ਰਵਣ ਅਥਵਾ ਮੰਨਣ ਹੀ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ, (ਪਰ, “ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋ ਅਖੜੀਆਂ ਬਿਅੰਨਿ ਜਿਨੀ ਡਿਸੰਦੋ ਮਾਪਿਰੀ”॥) ਓਹ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਖੇ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ “ਤੇਰਾ ਜਨ ਏਕ ਆਧ ਕੋਈ”)
Rare are the Gurmukhs who being face to face with the Guru have seen him, listened to him and have obeyed his commands.
ਪਹਿਲੋਦੇਪਾਖਾਕਹੋਇਪਿਛਹੁਜਗੁਮੰਗੈਪਗਛਾਰਾ।
ਪਹਿਲੋਂ (ਜੋ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ) ਪੈਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਚਰਣ ਧੂੜ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਫੇਰ ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ (ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਚਰਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਨੂੰ (ਸਿਰ ਪੁਰ ਰਖਕੇ ਆਦਰ) ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
First, they become the dust of the feet of the Guru and later on, the whole world desires the dust of their feet.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਮਾਰਗੁਚਲਿਆਸਚੁਵਨਜੁਕਰਿਪਾਰਿਉਤਾਰਾ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਚੱਲਣ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਸੱਚੇ ਵਣਜ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਪਾਰ ਉਤਾਰਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Treading the path of Gurmukhs and transacting in truth, one goes across (the world ocean).
ਕੀਮਤਿਕੋਇਨਜਾਣਈਆਖਣਿਸੁਣਨਿਨਲਿਖਣਿਹਾਰਾ।
(ਉਸ ਦੇ ਫਲ ਦੀ) ਕੀਮਤ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ) ਆਖਣ, ਸੁਣਨ ਅਤੇ ਲਿਖਣਹਾਰਾ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ (ਭਾਵ ਆਖਦਿਆਂ, ਸੁਣਦਿਆਂ, ਲਿਖਦਿਆਂ ਤੋਟ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਇਸ ਲਈ ਕਿ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਹੈ)।
None knows the glory of such persons nor can it be written, listened to and talked about.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਗੁਰਸਬਦੁਪਿਆਰਾ।੨੦।
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ (ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ)।
In the holy congregation, only the word of the Guru, is loved.
ਪਉੜੀ੨੧
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਗੁਰੁਸਬਦਲਿਵਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸੁਖਫਲੁਪਿਰਮੁਚਖਾਇਆ।
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਖੇ 'ਲਿਵ' ਲਾਕੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਰੂਪ ਸੁਖ ਫਲ ਨੂੰ ਚੱਖਿਆ (ਮਾਣਿਆ) ਹੈ। (ਇਸ ਦੀ ਮਸਤੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਓਹਨਾ ਨੇ ਕੀ ਕੀਤਾ?)
After merging their consciousness in the word of the Guru and the holy congregation, the gutmukhs have tasted the pleasure fruit in the form of contemplation of the Sabad.
ਸਭਨਿਧਾਨਕੁਰਬਾਨਕਰਿਸਭੇਫਲਬਲਿਹਾਰਕਰਾਇਆ।
ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਨਿਧਾਂ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ (ਅਰ) ਸਾਰੇ ਫਲ ਬਲਿਹਾਰ ਕਰ ਛੱਡੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ ਕੁਝ ਲੋੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਰੱਖੀ, ਨਿਸ਼ਕਾਮ ਨਿਰੋਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ)।
For this fruit, they have offered all the treasures and other fruits also have been sacrificed for the same.
ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾਜਲਣਿਬੁਝਾਈਆਂਸਾਂਤਿਸਹਜਸੰਤੋਖੁਦਿੜਾਇਆ।
ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੀ ਜਲਨ ਬੁਝਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ, ਸ਼ਾਂਤਿ, ਸੰਤੋਖ ਅਰ ਗਿਆਨ ਨੂੰ ਦ੍ਰਿੜ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।
This fruit has quenched all desires and fires and has further firmed up the feeling of peace, equipoise and contentment.
ਸਭੇਆਸਾਪੂਰੀਆਆਸਾਵਿਚਿਨਿਰਾਸੁਵਲਾਇਆ।
ਆਸਾਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਪੂਰਣ ਹੋ ਗਈਆਂ ਹਨ, ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਆਸਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿਕੇ ਹੀ ਨਿਰਾਸ ਹੋਕੇ ਸਮਾਂ ਬਿਤਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
All the hopes have been fulfilled and now the feeling of detachment towards them has come up.
ਮਨਸਾਮਨਹਿਸਮਾਇਲੈਮਨਕਾਮਨਨਿਹਕਾਮਨਧਾਇਆ।
ਮਨ ਦੀ ਮਨਸਾ ਨੂੰ ਮਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੀ ਲੀਨ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ ਦੋਖ ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉੱਦਿਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਣ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਇਸੇ ਲਈ) ਮਨ ਦੀਆਂ ਕਾਮਨਾਂ ਚੋਂ ਨਿਰਿੱਛਤ ਹੋਕੇ (ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਵਲ) ਨਹੀਂ ਦੌੜਦੇ; (ਫਲ ਕੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ?)
The waves of mind have been subsumed in the mind itself and mind now having become free of desires does not run in any direction.
ਕਰਮਕਾਲਜਮਜਾਲਕਟਿਕਰਮਕਰੇਨਿਹਕਰਮਰਹਾਇਆ।
ਕਰਮ, ਸਮੇਂ ਅਤੇ ਜਮ ਦਾ ਬੰਧਨ ਕੱਟਕੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਨਿਹਕਰਮੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ। (“ਕਰਮ ਕਰਤ ਹੋਵੇ ਨਿਹਕਰਮ॥ ਤਿਸੁ ਬੈਸਨੋ ਕਾ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਧਰਮ”॥ ਤਥਾ:- “ਸਹਜ ਸੁਭਾਇ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੋ ਹੋਇ॥ ਕਰਣੈ ਹਾਰੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਸੋਇ”)।
Cutting asunder the rituals and the noose of death, the mind while becoming active has become free of desires for reward.
ਗੁਰਉਪਦੇਸਅਵੇਸੁਕਰਿਪੈਰੀਪੈਜਗੁਪੈਰੀਪਾਇਆ।
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿਖੇ ('ਅਵੇਸ') ਪ੍ਰਵੇਸ਼ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ) ਪੈਰੀਂ ਪੈਕੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਨੂੰ (ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ) ਪੈਰੀਂ ਪਾਯਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ ਆਪ ਪੂਰਨ ਹੋਕੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਤਾਰਿਆ ਹੈ “ਜਿਥੈ ਜਾਇ ਬਹੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਸੋ ਥਾਨ ਸੁਹਾਵਾ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਜੇ॥ ਗੁਰ ਸਿਖੀ ਸੋ ਥਾਨੁ ਭਾਲਿਆ ਲੈ ਧੂਰਿ ਮੁਖਿ ਲਾਵਾ”)।
Getting inspired by the teachings of the Guru, first, the gurmukh fell on the feet of the Guru and then he made the whole world fall cn his feet.
ਗੁਰਚੇਲੇਪਰਚਾਪਰਚਾਇਆ।੨੧।੨੯।ਉਣੱਤੀਹ।
ਗੁਰੂ ਅਤੇ ਚੇਲੇ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦਾ ਪਰਚਾ ਪਰਚਾਇਆ (ਭਾਵ ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਖੇ ਪ੍ਰਸਿੱਧ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ। ਗੱਲ ਕੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਅਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਅੰਗਦ ਜੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਚੇਲਾ ਇਕ ਰੂਪ ਹੋ ਗਏ)।
This way, being with the Guru, the disciple has identified Love.
