ਵਾਲਹੁਨਿਕੀਆਖੀਐਖੰਡੇਧਾਰਹੁਸੁਣੀਐਤਿਖੀ।
ਵਾਲ ਥੋਂ ਸੂਖਮ ਕਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਰ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਦੀ ਧਾਰਾ ਥੋਂ ਤਿੱਖੀ ਸੁਣੀਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
Sikh spirit is subtler than a trichome and sharper than the edge of sword.
ਆਖਣਿਆਖਿਨਸਕੀਐਲੇਖਅਲੇਖਨਜਾਈਲਿਖੀ।
ਅਖਾਣਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਆਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕੀਦੀ, ਲੇਖੇ ਤੋਂ ਅਲੇਖ ਹੈ, ਲਿਖੀ ਬੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ।
Nothing can be said or explained about it and its indescribable account cannot be written.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਪੰਥੁਵਖਾਣੀਐਅਪੜਿਨਸਕੈਇਕਤੁਵਿਖੀ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਪੰਥ ਦਾ ਵ੍ਯਾਖ੍ਯਾਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਇਕ ਕਦਮ ਨਾਲ (ਭਾਵ ਛੇਤੀ) ਨਹੀਂ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਸਕੀਦਾ (ਅਥਵਾ ਸਾਰੇ ਕਦਮ ਭਰਣੇ ਤਾਂ ਕਿਧਰੇ ਰਹੇ ਇਕ ਕਦਮ ਭਰਣਾ ਬੀ ਔਖਾ ਹੈ)।
Defined as the way of the Gurmukhs, it cannot be attained by a single step.
ਸਿਲਆਲੂਣੀਚਟਣੀਤੁਲਿਨਲਖਅਮਿਅਰਸਇਖੀ।
ਅਲੂਣੀ ਸਿਲਾ ਚੱਟਣੀ ਹੈ (ਇਹ ਤਾਂ), (ਪਰੰਤੂ ਸਿਖੀ ਦੇ ਸਦਰਸ਼) ਗੰਨੇ ਦਾ ਰਸ (ਕੀਹ) ਲੱਖ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ (ਲੋਕ ਪ੍ਰਸਿੱਧ ਜੋ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਹੈ) ਬੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ (ਅਥਵਾ ਗੁਰ ਸਿਖੀ ਦੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਖ ਗੰਨ ਦਾ ਰਸ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੁੱਜ ਸਕਦਾ)।
It is like licking a tasteless stone but the joy of even the juice of millions of sweet sugar cane, cannot be compared with it.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸੁਖਫਲੁਪਾਇਆਭਾਇਭਗਤਿਵਿਰਲੀਜੁਬਿਰਖੀ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਸੁਖ ਫਲ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ) 'ਭਾਇ ਭਗਤ' ਦਾ (ਫਲ) ਵਿਰਲੇ ਹੀ ਬ੍ਰਿਛਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਲਗਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਸਰੀਰਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਏਹ ਫਲ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ)।
The gurmukhs have attained the pleasure-fruit of loving devotion which grows on rare trees.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਤੁਠੈਪਾਈਐਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਗੁਰਮਤਿਗੁਰਸਿਖੀ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਦੇ ਤੁਠਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਖੇ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਰੂਪ ਗੁਰਸਿਖੀ ਦਾ ਫਲ ਲਭਦਾ ਹੈ (ਕੀ ਓਹ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ?)।
By the grace of the true Guru, following the wisdom of the Guru and in the holy congregation alone the Sikh spirit is attained.
ਚਾਰਿਪਦਾਰਥਭਿਖਕਭਿਖੀ।੧।
ਚਾਰੇ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ ਫਲ ਦੀ ਭਿਖਿਆ ਭਿੱਖਕਾਂ (ਜਗ੍ਯਾਸੂਆਂ) ਨੂੰ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
Four ideals (dharma, arth, katm and rooks) of life are begged by the beggars.
ਪਉੜੀ੨
ਚਾਰਿਪਦਾਰਥਆਖੀਅਨਿਸਤਿਗੁਰਦੇਇਨਗੁਰਸਿਖੁਮੰਗੈ।
ਕਹੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਚਾਰ ਪਦਾਰਥ (ਧਰਮ ਦਿਕਾਂ) ਨੂੰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ (ਗੁਰ ਨਾਨਕ) ਜੀ ਤਾਂ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਪਰੰਤੂ) ਗੁਰ ਸਿਖ ਮੰਗਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ।
The true Guru himself bestows the four ideals; the Sikh of the Guru does a ask for them.
ਅਠਸਿਧਿਨਿਧੀਨਵੈਰਿਧਿਨਗੁਰੁਸਿਖੁਢਾਕੈਟੰਗੈ।
ਅੱਠ ਸਿਧੀਆਂ, ਨੌ ਨਿੱਧਾਂ, ਅਠਾਰਾਂ ਰਿਧੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰ ਸਿਖ ਲੋੜ ਵੇਲੇ ਬੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੰਗਦੇ (ਅਥਵਾ 'ਢਾਕੈ ਟੰਗੈ' ਪਿਛੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਟੰਗਦੇ ਭਾਵ ਪੱਲੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਬੰਨਦੇ)।
The gurmukh never carries on his back the nine treasures and eight miraculous powers.
ਕਾਮਧੇਣੁਲਖਲਖਮੀਪਹੁੰਚਨਹੰਘੈਢੰਗਿਸੁਢੰਗੈ।
ਲੱਖਾਂ ਕਾਮਧੇਨਾਂ, ਲੱਖਮੀਆਂ ਕਈ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਢੰਗਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਸਕਦੀਆਂ (ਮੋਹਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੀਆਂ)।
Wish fulfilling cow and millions of Laksamis, 'With their fine gestures cannot reach a gursikh — Sikh of the Guru.
ਲਖਪਾਰਸਲਖਪਾਰਿਜਾਤਹਥਿਨਛੁਹਦਾਫਲਨਅਭੰਗੈ।
ਲੱਖਾਂ ਪਾਰਸ, ਲੱਖਾਂ ਕਲਪ ਬ੍ਰਿੱਛਾਂ ਦੇ 'ਅਭੰਗ' (ਸੁੰਦਰ) ਫੁੱਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹੱਥ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਾਉਂਦਾ (ਅਥਵਾ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਫਲ ਅਭੰਗ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ਭਾਵ ਕੁਮਲਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ)।
The Sikh of the Guru never touches the philosopher's stone or transitory fruits millions of wishfulfilling trees.
ਤੰਤਮੰਤਪਾਖੰਡਲਖਬਾਜੀਗਰਬਾਜਾਰੀਨੰਗੈ।
ਤੰਤ ਮੰਤ, (ਆਦਕ) ਲੱਖਾਂ ਪਾਖੰਡ (ਜੋ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਓਹ) ਬਾਜੀਗਰ, ਬਜਾਰੀ ਠੱਗ (ਬੇਸ਼ਰਮ) ਹਨ।
Millions of tantrists knowing mantras and tantras are mere naked acrobats for a Sikh of the Guru.
ਪੀਰਮੁਰੀਦੀਗਾਖੜੀਇਕਸਅੰਗਿਨਅੰਗਣਿਅੰਗੈ।
ਪੀਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੁਰੀਦੀ (ਸ਼ਾਗਿਰਦੀ ਗਾਖੜੀ) ਔਖੀ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਅੰਗਣ ਦੇ ਅੰਗ ਇਕ ਪਾਸੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ ਪੈਚ ਵਿਖੇ ਪੇਚ ਹਨ, ਮਾਨੋਂ ਚਿਕਾਵ੍ਯੂਹ ਦਾ ਕਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਹੈ)।
The Guru disciple relationship is very complex because many are its laws and byelaws.

ਗੁਰ ਸਿੱਖੀ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖ੍ਯਾ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਦ (ਰਾਗ) ਗਾਉਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੇ, ਵੇਦ ਆਖਕੇ ਵਖਾਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੇ (ਭਾਵ ਬਾਣੀਓਂ ਦੂਰ ਹੈ)।
The discipline of the discipleship of the Guru is ineffable for the Vedas and all the melodies.

The glory of simaran, remembrance of the name of the Lord, cannot be known by myriad Seanags (thousand hooded mythical snake).

ਗੁਰ ਸਿਖੀ ਦੀ ਵਰਤਮਾਨ (ਅਰਥਾਤ ਵਰਤਾਵੇ) ਨੂੰ ਵੀਹ ਤੇ ਇਕੀਹਾਂ ਥੋਂ ਲੰਘਕੇ ਪਛਾਣ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ ਕੋਈ ਤੁਰੀਆ ਪਦ ਵਾਲਾ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ)।
The conduct of the Sikh spirit can be known only by going beyond the worldly phenomena.
ਗੁਰਸਿਖੀਦਾਬੁਝਣਾਗਿਆਨਧਿਆਨਅੰਦਰਿਕਿਵਆਣੈ।

How can anybody understand the Sikh way of life or Gursikhi through learning and contemplation alone?

ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਖੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਨਾਲ ਜੋ ਮਾਣ ਥੋਂ ਨਿਮਾਣਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ)।
By the grace of the Guru, in the holy congregation, the gursikh concentrating his consciousness in the Word sheds pride and becomes humble.
ਭਾਇਭਗਤਿਵਿਰਲਾਰੰਗੁਮਾਣੈ।੩।
ਪ੍ਰੇਮਾ ਭਗਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਹੀ (ਇਸ) ਅਨੰਦ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ (“ਕੋਟਿ ਮਧੇ ਕੋ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਹੋਰਿ ਸਗਲੇ ਬਿਉਹਾਰੀ”॥)
A rare one may enjoy the pleasure of loving devotion.

ਗੁਰਸਿਖੀਦਾਸਿਖਣਾਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਦੀਸੇਵਾ।
ਗੁਰ ਸਿਖੀ ਦੀ ਸਿਖ੍ਯਾ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ (ਕਰਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ)।
The way of learning the conduct of a Sikh of the Guru is that one should be the holy congregation.
ਦਸਅਵਤਾਰਨਸਿਖਿਆਗੀਤਾਗੋਸਟਿਅਲਖਅਭੇਵਾ।
ਦਸਾਂ ਅਵਤਾਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਬੀ (ਇਹ ਰੀਤ) ਨਹੀਂ ਸਿਖੀ (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਉਹ ਆਪਦਾ ਹੀ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਾਉਂਦੇ ਰਹੇ); (ਗੁਰ ਸਿਖੀ ਦਾ) ਕਥਨ ਲਖਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਅਰ ਡੂੰਘਾ ਹੈ (ਅਥਵਾ ਗੀਤਾ ਦੀ ਗੋਸ਼ਟ ਤੋਂ ਅਲੇਖ ਤੇ ਅਭੇਵ ਹੈ)।
This mystery was not known even to the ten incarnations (of Visrnu); this mystery is beyond the Gita and discussions.
ਵੇਦਨਜਾਣਨਭੇਦਕਿਹੁਲਿਖਿਪੜਿਸੁਣਿਸਣੁਦੇਵੀਦੇਵਾ।
ਵੇਦ ਬੀ ਕੁਝ ਭੇਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਦੇਵੀ ਤੇ ਦੇਵਤੇ ਲਿਖ, ਪੜ੍ਹ ਅਤੇ ਸੁਣਕੇ ਵੇਦਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹਾਰ ਗਏ (ਪਰੰਤੂ ਇਹ ਭੇਦ ਨ ਜਾਤਾ)।
Then the Vedas know not its secret though they are studied by gods and godesses.
ਸਿਧਨਾਥਨਸਮਾਧਿਵਿਚਿਤੰਤਨਮੰਤਲੰਘਾਇਨਿਖੇਵਾ।
ਸਿੱਧਾਂ, ਨਾਥਾਂ, ਸਮਾਧੀਆਂ ਵਿਚ (ਨਾ ਜਾਤਾ) ਤੰਤ ਮੰਤ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਚੱਪਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਗਾ ਸਕੇ।
The deep meditations of the siddhs, naths and even the tanttatras could not cross the teachings and practices of Sikh way of life.
ਲਖਭਗਤਿਜਗਤਵਿਚਿਲਿਖਿਨਗਏਗੁਰੁਸਿਖੀਟੇਵਾ।
ਲੱਖਾਂ ਭਗਤ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਖੇ (ਅੰਬਰੀਕ ਆਦਿਕ ਹੋਏ ਪਰੰਤੂ) ਗੁਰ ਸਿਖੀ ਦਾ ਜੋਤਿਸ਼ ਕਿਸੇ ਨਾ ਲਿਖਿਆ।
Millions of devotees flourished in this World but they also could not understand the life-discipline of the Sikhs of the Guru.
ਸਿਲਾਅਲੂਣੀਚਟਣੀਸਾਦਿਨਪੁਜੈਲਖਲਖਮੇਵਾ।
ਆਲੂਣੀ (ਫਿੱਕੀ) ਸਿਲਾ ਚੱਟਣੀ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ (ਸੱਚ ਪੁਛੋ ਤਾਂ) ਲੱਖਾਂ ਮੇਵੇ ਇਸ ਇਸਦੇ ਸਵਾਦ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਕਿਹੜੇ ਬਾਗ ਦੀ ਮੂਲੀ ਹਨ? (ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਦਾ ਰਾਹ ਦੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ:)।
This life is similar the licking of the saltless stone but its taste is incomparable even to the millions of fruits.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਗੁਰਸਬਦਸਮੇਵਾ।੪।
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਖੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਖੇ ਸਮਾਵਣਾ (ਭਾਵ ਨਿਵਾਤ ਦੀਪ ਵਤ ਚਿੱਤ ਸਿਥਿਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦਵਾਰਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਖੇ ਸਮਾਧੀ ਲਾਵਣੀ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਦਵਾਰਾ ਹੀ ਉੱਤਮ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ਹੈ)।
Absorption in the word of the Guru in the holy congregation is the accomplishment of the life of a gursikh.

ਗੁਰਸਿਖੀਦਾਸਿਖਣਾਸਬਦਿਸੁਰਤਿਸਤਿਸੰਗਤਿਸਿਖੈ।
ਸਤਿਸੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਸੁਰਤ (ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ) ਨੂੰ ਸਿੱਖਣਾ ਗੁਰਸਿੱਖੀ ਦਾ ਸਿੱਖਣਾ ਹੈ।
To learn about Sikh-life, one ought to merge one's consciousness in the Word in the holy congregation.
ਗੁਰਸਿਖੀਦਾਲਿਖਣਾਗੁਰਬਾਣੀਸੁਣਿਸਮਝੈਲਿਖੈ।

Simran, meditation in Sikh life is learning the Guru-mantra (Vahiguru) which is sweet like sugarcane juice.

The understanding of a Sikh of the Guru consists in the fact that even after having received the gifted alms (of nom) and being fully knowledgeable, he considered himself as ignorant.

ਸਤਿਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਖੇ ਗੁਰੁ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਣਕੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾਨ, ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ (ਸਰਿੱਖੇ) ਸੇਵੇ (ਅਰਥਾਤ ਅਭ੍ਯਾਸ ਕਰੇ)।
The Sikh of the Guru, in the holy congregation listens to the word of the Guru and practises meditation, charity and ablution,
ਵਰਤਮਾਨੁਲੰਘਿਭੂਤਭਵਿਖੈ।੫।
ਵਰਤਮਾਨ, ਭੂਤ, ਭਵਿੱਖਤ, (ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਕਾਲਾਂ ਥੋਂ ਐਉਂ) ਲੰਘ ਜਾਵੇ (ਭਾਵ ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਕਾਲਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਇਕ ਸਮਾਨ ਰਹੇ)।
And thus goes across the past present to a new the future.

ਗੁਰਸਿਖੀਦਾਬੋਲਣਾਹੁਇਮਿਠਬੋਲਾਲਿਖੈਨਲੇਖੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਸਿੱਖੀ ਦਾ ਬੋਲਣਾ (ਕੀ ਹੈ?) ਮਿਠਬੋਲਾ ਹੋਕੇ, ਫੇਰ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਲੇਖੇ ਵਿਚ ਨਾ ਲਿਖੇ (ਭਾਈ ਮੈਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਮਿੱਠਾ ਬੋਲਦਾ ਹਾਂ)।
The Sikh life one speaks mildly and never gets oneself noticed i.e. ego is diated.
ਗੁਰਸਿਖੀਦਾਚਲਣਾਚਲੈਭੈਵਿਚਿਲੀਤੇਭੇਖੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਸਿੱਖੀ ਦਾ ਚੱਲਣਾ (ਕੀ ਹੈ?) ਈਸ਼੍ਵਰ ਦੇ ਭ੍ਯ ਵਿਖੇ ਚੱਲੇ ਸਿੱਖੀ ਵੇਸ ਰੱਖੇ।
Maintaining the Sikh form and moving in the fear of the Lord constitute the Sikh way of living.
ਗੁਰਸਿਖੀਦਾਰਾਹੁਏਹੁਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਚਾਲਚਲੈਸੋਦੇਖੈ।
ਗੁਰਸਿੱਖੀ ਦਾ ਏਹੋ ਰਸਤਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਦੀ ਚਾਲ ਪੁਰ ਜੋ ਦੇਖੇ ਚਲੇ (ਭਾਵ ਉਲਟਾ ਨਾ ਚੱਲੇ। ਉਹ ਕੀ ਹੈ?)
Sikh living means following the footsteps gursikhs.
ਘਾਲਿਖਾਇਸੇਵਾਕਰੈਗੁਰਉਪਦੇਸੁਅਵੇਸੁਵਿਸੇਖੈ।
ਕਮਾਈ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਖਾਵੇ (ਆਏ ਗਏ ਦੀ) ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰੇ, ਗੁਰ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿਖੇ ਪ੍ਰਵੇਸ਼ ਰੱਖੇ।
One should eat the fruit of one's own labour, do service and could always remain inspired by the teachings of the Guru.
ਆਪੁਗਣਾਇਨਅਪੜੈਆਪੁਗਵਾਏਰੂਪਨਰੇਖੈ।
ਆਪਾ ਭਾਵ ਨੂੰ ਜਣਾਉਂਦਿਆਂ ਹੋਇਆਂ (ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੀ) ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ, (ਜਿਸ ਵੇਲੇ) ਆਪਾ ਭਾਵ ਨੂੰ ਗਵਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਵੇਲੇ) ਨਾ ਰੂਪ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਨਾ ਰੇਖ (ਅਰਥਾਤ ਸਹਜ ਪਦ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ)।
The supreme rd is not attained through egotism and only after losing the sense of ego e can identify oneself with the formless and limitless Lord.
ਮੁਰਦੇਵਾਂਗਮੁਰੀਦਹੋਇਗੁਰਗੋਰੀਵੜਿਅਲਖਅਲੇਖੈ।
ਮੁਰਦੇ ਵਾਂਗੂ ਮੁਰੀਦ ਹੋਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਰੂਪ ਗੋਰ ਵਿਖੇ ਵੜਕੇ ਅਲਖ ਅਰ ਲੇਖੇ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਉਸ ਦਾ ਫਲ ਕੀ ਹੈ?)
A disciple coming like a dead person and entering into the guru-grave can merge in at imperceptible Lord who is beyond all writs.
ਅੰਤੁਨਮੰਤੁਨਸੇਖਸਰੇਖੈ।੬।
(ਉਸ ਫਲ ਦਾ) ਅੰਤ ਸ਼ੇਸ਼ਨਾਗ ਸਾਰਖੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦੇ (ਇਥੇ ਦੋ ਵਾਰ 'ਅੰਤ ਨ' ਕਹਿਣ ਥੋਂ ਤਾਕੀਦ ਨਾਲ ਕਿਹਾ ਹੈ। “ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਨ ਵਿਸਰੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੇ ਕਿਨੇਹਿਆ॥ ਭੇਦੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਹੁ ਮੂਲਿ ਸਾਂਈ ਜੇਹਿਆ”)।

ਗੁਰਸਿਖੀਦਾਸਿਖਣਾਗੁਰੁਸਿਖਸਿਖਣਬਜਰੁਭਾਰਾ।
ਗੁਰ ਸਿੱਖੀ ਦਾ ਸਿੱਖਣਾ ਭਾਰੇ ਬੱਜਰ (ਵਾਂਗੂੰ ਕਠਨ ਹੈ, ਇਸਨੂੰ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਿਖ ਹੀ ਸਿਖਦੇ ਹਨ।
Learning of the Sikh way of life is as tough as the thunderbolt and only the Sikhs of the Guru learn it.
ਗੁਰਸਿਖੀਦਾਲਿਖਣਾਲੇਖੁਅਲੇਖੁਨਲਿਖਣਹਾਰਾ।

Writing about the Sikh-life is also beyond all accounts; none can write.

Pondering upon the word of Guru in the holy congregation is like tasting of the Sikh way of life.
ਗੁਰਸਿਖੀਦਾਸਮਝਣਾਜੋਤੀਜੋਤਿਜਗਾਵਣਹਾਰਾ।
ਗੁਰਸਿਖੀ ਦਾ ਸਮਝਣਾ (ਜੋਤੀ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਜੋਤ ਦੇ ਜਗਾਉਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ ਸਾਰੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਜੋਤ ਹੀ ਦਿੱਸਦੀ ਹੈ, 'ਤਿਸਦੈ ਚਾਨਣਿ ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਹੋਇ')।
Understanding of the Sikh life is like kindling the flame of the Lord.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸੁਖਫਲੁਪਿਰਮੁਪਿਆਰਾ।੭।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਸੁਖ ਫਲ 'ਪਿਰੀ (ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ) ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਹੀ ਜਾਤਾ ਹੈ (ਇਤਰ ਸੰਸਾਰਕ ਸੁਖ ਦੁਖ ਫਲ ਹੀ ਮੰਨਦੇ ਹਨ)।
The pleasure-fruit of the Gurmukhs is the love of the dear Lord.

ਗੁਰਸਿਖੀਦਾਰੂਪਦੇਖਿਇਕਸਬਾਝੁਨਹੋਰਸੁਦੇਖੈ।
ਗੁਰੂ ਸਿਖੀ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਡਿੱਠਾ ਹੈ, (ਓਹ) ਇਕ ਬਾਝੋਂ ਹੋਰ ਕਿਸੇ (ਦੇਵੀ ਦੇਵਤੇ ਦਾ) ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਚਾਹੁੰਦੇ।
One who has attained Sikh-life does not wish to have glimpse of any (god, goddess) except the Lord.
ਗੁਰਸਿਖੀਦਾਚਖਣਾਲਖਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਫਲਫਿਕੈਲੇਖੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਸਿਖੀ ਸਵਾਦ ਦਾ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਚੱਖਣਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ (ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਲੱਖਾਂ ਹੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਫਲ ਫਿੱਕੇ ਲਗਦੇ ਹਨ।
To one who has tasted the Sikh-life, million of ambrosial fruits taste mawkish.

ਗੁਰ ਸਿਖੀ ਦਾ ਨਾਦੁ (ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਕੰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ) ਸੁਣਿਆਂ ਹੈ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਅਨਾਹਦ ਅਚਰਜ ਰੂਪ ਰਾਗ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ) ਅਲੇਖੇ ਵਿਚ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਦੇ)।
Listening to the melody of Sikh-life, one enjoys the wondrous delight of millions of unstruck melodies.

Having inhaled the fragrance of Sikh life, one feels all other fragrances as a smell.

Subsumed in the 'word of Guru, he remains detached from the world.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸਚਾਪੰਥੁਹੈਸਿਖੁਸਹਜਘਰਿਜਾਇਖਲੋਵੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਸੱਚਾ ਰਸਤਾ ਹੈ, (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ, ਜੇਹੜਾ) ਸਿਖ (ਇਸ ਰਸਤੇ ਚਲਦਾ ਹੈ) ਓਹ 'ਸਹਜ ਘਰ' (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ) ਜਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
The way of gurmukhs is that way of truth treading which, the Sikh automatically stabilizes in his innate nature.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸਚੁਰਹਰਾਸਿਹੈਪੈਰੀਂਪੈਪਾਖਾਕੁਜੁਹੋਵੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹ ਰੀਤ ਸੱਚੀ ਹੈ, ਪੈਰੀਂ ਪੈਣਾਂ ਅਰ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਣਾ, (ਭਾਵ ਅਤਿ ਨਿੰਮ੍ਰਤਾ ਰਖਣੀ ਹੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੱਚੀ ਕਿਰਿਆ ਹੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਅਤੀਤ ਰਹਿਣਾ)।
The conduct of gurmukhs is true; touching of the feet and becoming of dust of the feet i.e. getting most humble is their active behaviour.
ਗੁਰੁਸਿਖੀਦਾਨਾਵਣਾਗੁਰਮਤਿਲੈਦੁਰਮਤਿਮਲੁਧੋਵੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਸਿਖੀ ਦਾ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰਨਾ (ਮੁਖ ਇਹੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਖਿਆ (ਰੂਪੀ ਸਾਬਣ) ਨਾਲ ਦੁਰਮਤ ਦੀ ਮੈਲ ਧੋ ਦੇਵੇ।
The ablution in Sikh-life is washing away of evil propensities by adopting the wisdom of the Guru (gurmat).
ਗੁਰੁਸਿਖੀਦਾਪੂਜਣਾਗੁਰਸਿਖਪੂਜਪਿਰਮਰਸੁਭੋਵੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਸਿਖੀ ਵਿਖੇ ਪੂਜਾ (ਇਹੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਗੁਰ ਦੇ ਸਿਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਰਸ ਵਿਖੇ ਭਿੱਜ ਜਾਵੇ ('ਚਰਨ ਸਾਧ ਕੇ ਧੋਇ ਧੋਇ ਪੀਉ॥ ਅਰਪਿ ਸਾਧ ਕਉ ਅਪਨਾ ਜੀਉ')।
Worship in Sikh-life is the worship (service) to the Sikhs of the Guru and getting drenched in the shower of love of the dear Lord.
ਗੁਰੁਸਿਖੀਦਾਮੰਨਣਾਗੁਰਬਚਨੀਗਲਿਹਾਰੁਪਰੋਵੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਸਿਖੀ ਵਿਖੇ ਮੰਨਣ (ਇਹੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਬਚਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਗਲ ਵਿਖੇ ਹਾਰ ਪਰੋ ਛੱਡੇ (ਭਾਵ ਊਠਤ ਬੈਠਤ ਸੋਵਤ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਅਭਿਆਸ ਕਰੇ)।
Wearing the words of the Guru like garland, is the accepting of the will of the Lord.
ਗੁਰੁਸਿਖੀਦਾਜੀਵਣਾਜੀਂਵਦਿਆਂਮਰਿਹਉਮੈਖੋਵੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਸਿਖੀ ਦਾ ਜੀਉਣਾ (ਇਹੋ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਜੀਵੰਦਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਮਰਕੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ ਤਿਆਗ ਕਰ ਦੇਵੇ।
Life of a gursikh is being dead i.e. losing one's ego while alive.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਗੁਰਸਬਦਵਿਲੋਵੈ।੯।
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਖੇ (ਮਿਲਕੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦਾ ਮਥਨ ਕਰੇ (ਅਰਥਾਤ ਸਮਝਕੇ ਨਿਧ੍ਯਾਸਨ ਕਰੇ)।
In such a life the word of the Guru is churned in the holy congregation.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸੁਖਫਲੁਖਾਵਣਾਦੁਖੁਸੁਖੁਸਮਕਰਿਅਉਚਰਚਰਣਾ।
ਗੁਰੂਦਵਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਫਲ ਦਾ ਅਹਾਰ (ਉਹ ਕੀ ਵਸਤੂ ਹੈ?) ਦੁਖ ਅਤੇ ਸੁਖ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਾਨ ਜਾਣਕੇ ਅਉਚਰ (ਕਾਮਾਦਿ ਵਿਖਯ) ਨੂੰ ਭੱਛਨ (ਕਰਕੇ ਅਭਾਵ) ਕਰ ਦੇਵੇ।
Adopting pleasure and pain equally, the gurmukhs eat the fruit of delight.
ਗੁਰਸਿਖੀਦਾਗਾਵਣਾਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਬਾਣੀਨਿਝਰੁਝਰਣਾ।
ਗੁਰ ਸਿਖੀ ਦਾ ਗਾਉਣਾ (ਇਹੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਾਣੀ (ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ) ਇਕ ਰਸ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਕਰੇ।
Music in the Sikh way of life is the continuous flow (singing) of ambrosial hymns of the Guru.
ਗੁਰਸਿਖੀਧੀਰਜੁਧਰਮੁਪਿਰਮਪਿਆਲਾਅਜਰੁਜਰਣਾ।
ਗੁਰ ਸਿਖ ਦਾ ਧੀਰਜ ਧਰਮ (ਇਹ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਲਾ ਪੀਕੇ ਅਜਰ ਨੂੰ ਜਰ ਜਾਵੇ।
Fortitude and duty in Sikh life is the bearing of the unbearable power of the cup of love.
ਗੁਰਸਿਖੀਦਾਸੰਜਮੋਡਰਿਨਿਡਰੁਨਿਡਰਮੁਚਡਰਣਾ।
ਗੁਰ ਸਿਖੀ ਦਾ (ਸੰਜਮ) ਜਪ ਤਪ (ਇਹੋ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਸੰਸਾਰਕ) ਡਰ ਥੋਂ ਨਿਡਰ ਹੋਣਾ ਅਰ ਨਿਡਰ ਥੋਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਭੈ ਰਖਣਾ (ਭਾਵ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦਾ ਭੈ ਨਾ ਰਖਣਾ ਤੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ਰ ਦਾ ਭੈ ਰਖਣਾ)।

ਗੁਰ ਸਿਖੀ (ਅਰਥਾਤ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਿਖ) ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਖੇ ਮਿਲਕੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਸੁਰਤ ਨਾਲ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਸਾਗਰ ਦੁਸ਼ਤਰ ਥੋਂ ਤਰ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
Another doctrine of the Sikh life is that joining the holy congregation and concentrating the mind in the word, man goes across the world ocean.
ਗੁਰਸਿਖੀਦਾਕਰਮੁਏਹੁਗੁਰਫੁਰਮਾਏਗੁਰਸਿਖਕਰਣਾ।
ਗੁਰ ਸਿਖੀ ਦਾ ਕਰਮ ਇਹੋ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਜੋ ਗੁਰੂ ਬਚਨ ਕਰਨ ਸਿਖ ਨੂੰ ਮੰਨਣਾ ਜੋਗ ਹੈ।
Acting according the instructions of the Guru is the performance of the Sikh life.
ਗੁਰਕਿਰਪਾਗੁਰੁਸਿਖੁਗੁਰੁਸਰਣਾ।੧੦।
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਿਖ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਣ (ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ) (ਜਣਾ ਖਣਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਬਚਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੰਨ ਸਕਦਾ, ਜਿਸ ਪੁਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਹੋਵੇ ਓਹੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਅੰਗਦ ਵਾਂਗ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਣ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ)।
By the grace of the Guru, the disciple (Sikh) remains in the shelter of the Guru.
ਪਉੜੀ੧੧
ਵਾਸਿਸੁਵਾਸੁਨਿਵਾਸੁਕਰਿਸਿੰਮਲਿਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸੁਖਫਲਲਾਏ।
ਵਾਸ਼ਨਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਵਾਸ਼ਨਾਂ (ਭਾਵ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਵਾਸ਼ਨਾ) ਦਾ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਪਾਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਸਿੰਮਲ (ਰੂਪ ਮਨਮੁਖ) ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਸੁਖ ਰੂਪ ਫਲ ਲਾ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
Diffusing in all the places like fragrance, the gurmukh makes even the mind oriented, manmukh, fragrant by giving him pleasure-fruit.
ਪਾਰਸਹੋਇਮਨੂਰੁਮਿਲੁਕਾਗਹੁਪਰਮਹੰਸੁਕਰਵਾਏ।
ਮਨੂਰ ਨੂੰ ਮੇਲ ਕੇ ਸੋਨਾਂ ਕਰਾ ਦੇਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਕਾਂਵਾਂ ਥੋਂ (ਗੁਰੂ) ਪਰਮਹੰਸ ਕਰਵਾ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
He transforms iron slag into gold and the crows into the swans of highest order (param hails).
ਪਸੂਪਰੇਤਹੁਦੇਵਕਰਿਸਤਿਗੁਰਦੇਵਸੇਵਭੈਪਾਏ।
ਪਸ਼ੂ ਅਤੇ ਪਰੇਤਾਂ ਥੋਂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ (ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ) ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਭੈ ਪਾਕੇ (ਪ੍ਰੇਮਾ ਭਗਤੀ ਲਾਕੇ) ਦੇਵਤਾ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
Consequent to the service of the true Guru, animals and ghosts also become gods.
ਸਭਨਿਧਾਨਰਖਿਸੰਖਵਿਚਿਹਰਿਜੀਲੈਲੈਹਥਿਵਜਾਏ।
(ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਵਿਸ਼ਨੂੰ ਪਾਸ) ਇਕ ਸੰਖ (ਹੈ ਜਿਸ) ਵਿਚ ਚਾਰੇ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਵਿਸ਼ਨੂੰ ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ ਲੈਕੇ ਵਜਾਉਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤਿਵੇਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਰੂਪ ਸੰਖ ਵਿਚ ਹਨ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਵਜਾਉਂਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ)।
Having all the treasures in His hand (conch) He goes on distributing them with his hand among the people day and night.
ਪਤਿਤਉਧਾਰਣੁਆਖੀਐਭਗਤਿਵਛਲਹੋਇਆਪੁਛਲਾਏ।
ਪਤਿਤ ਉਧਾਰਣ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਬਿਰਦ) ਕਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ (ਦੂਜਾ) ਭਗਤ ਵਛਲ ਹੋਕੇ (ਭਗਤਾਂ ਪਾਸ ਆਪਣਾ) ਆਪ ਛਲਾ ਬੈਠਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ)।
Called as the redeemer of the sinners, the Lord, loving to the devotees, gets Himself deluded by the devotees.
ਗੁਣਕੀਤੇਗੁਣਕਰੇਜਗਅਵਗੁਣਕੀਤੇਗੁਣਗੁਰਭਾਏ।
ਗੁਣ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ (ਤਾਂ ਹਰ ਕੋਈ) ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਉਪਕਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਅਵਗੁਣਾਂ ਪੁਰ ਗੁਣ ਕਰਨਾ (ਇਕ) ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਭਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
The whole world is good towards the wellwisher alone, but, the Guru loves to do good even to the evil doer.
ਪਰਉਪਕਾਰੀਜਗਵਿਚਿਆਏ।੧੧।
ਪਰੋਪਕਾਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਹੀ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਖੇ ਆਏ ਹਨ।
Guru has come to the world as a benevolent entity.
ਪਉੜੀ੧੨
ਫਲਦੇਵਟਵਗਾਇਆਂਤਛਣਹਾਰੇਤਾਰਿਤਰੰਦਾ।
ਵੱਟੇ ਦੇ ਮਾਰਿਆਂ ਬ੍ਰਿੱਛ ਫਲ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਕੱਟਣ ਵਾਲੇ (ਤ੍ਰਖਾਣ) ਨੂੰ ('ਤਾਰਿ') ਨਦੀ ਥੋਂ ਤਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
A tree gives fruits to stone thrower and wooden boat to the cutter to get him across.
ਤਛੇਪੁਤਨਡੋਬਈਪੁਤਵੈਰੁਜਲਜੀਨਧਰੰਦਾ।
ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਦੇ ਕੱਟਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਨੂੰ (ਅਰਥਾਤ ਬ੍ਰਿੱਛ ਦੇ ਵੱਢਣਹਾਰੇ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਣੀ) ਨਹੀਂ ਡੋਬਦਾ (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਉਹ) ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਦਾ ਵੈਰ ਜੀਅ ਵਿਖੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਧਾਰਦਾ (ਭਈ ਇਸ ਨੇ ਤਾਂ ਮੇਰਾ ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਬ੍ਰਿਛ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਹੈ ਮੈਂ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਉਂ ਤਾਰਾਂ?)
Water, the father (of tree) not remembering the evil deeds (of carpenter) does not drown the boat along with carpenter.
ਵਰਸੈਹੋਇਸਹੰਸਧਾਰਮਿਲਿਗਿਲਜਲੁਨੀਵਾਣਿਚਲੰਦਾ।
ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਟੁਕੜੇ ਹੋਕੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਰ੍ਹਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਬ੍ਰਿਛਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਔਖ ਨਾ ਹੋਵੇ), (ਫਿਰ) ਰਲ ਮਿਲਕੇ ਨੀਵਾਣ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਚਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
Becoming thousands of currents when it rains, water in thousand streams flows towards the lower places.
ਡੋਬੈਡਬੈਅਗਰਨੋਆਪੁਛਡਿਪੁਤਪੈਜਰਖੰਦਾ।
ਅਗਰ ਦੇ ਡੱਬੇ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਣੀ ਡੋਬਦਾ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਲਈ ਜੋ) ਆਪਣਾ (ਧਰਮ) ਛੱਡਕੇ ਬੀ ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਦੀ ਪੈਜ ਰਖੇ, (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਡੁਬਣ ਨਾਲ ਅਗਰ ਕੀਮਤ ਵਿਚ ਮਹਿੰਗਾ ਵਿਕਦਾ ਹੈ)।
Wood of agar tree is drowned but repudiating ego, water saves the honour of its son, wood of the tree [in fact agar(eaglewood) floats under water surface].
ਤਰਿਡੁਬੈਡੁਬਾਤਰੈਜਿਣਿਹਾਰੈਹਾਰੈਸੁਜਿਣੰਦਾ।
(ਪਰੰਤੂ ਭਾਵ ਵਿਚ 'ਤਰਿ ਡੁਬੈ ਡੁਬਾ ਤਰੈ') (ਜੋ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ) ਤਰਿਆ (ਸਮਝੂ) ਉਹ ਡੁਬੂ, (ਅਰ ਜੋ) ਡੁਬਾ (ਉਹ) ਤਰੂ, ਜਿੱਤਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹਾਰਦਾ ਤੇ ਹਾਰਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਜਿੱਤਦਾ ਹੈ।
He who goes on swimming upon the water (of love) may be understood as drowned and he who drowns in love, may be considered as having swum across.
ਉਲਟਾਖੇਲੁਪਿਰੰਮਦਾਪੈਰਾਂਉਪਰਿਸੀਸੁਨਿਵੰਦਾ।
ਇਹ ਖੇਲ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦਾ ਉਲਟ ਹੈ, ਪੈਰਾਂ ਪਰ ਸਿਰ ਰੱਖੀਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਸਿਰ ਪੁਰ ਪੈਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਰੱਖਦਾ। “ਊਚਾ ਚੜੈ ਸੋ ਪਵੈ ਪਇਆਲਾ॥ ਧਰਨਿ ਪੜੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਲਗੈ ਨ ਕਾਲਾ”)।
Similarly, winner in the world loses and becoming detached and the loser, one wins (ultimately).
ਆਪਹੁਕਿਸੈਨਜਾਣੈਮੰਦਾ।੧੨।
(ਗੁਰਸਿਖ) ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਤੋਂ ਬੁਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ।
Inverse is the tradition of love which makes the head bow to the feet. The altruist Sikh considers none as the bad or the worse.
ਪਉੜੀ੧੩
ਧਰਤੀਪੈਰਾਂਹੇਠਿਹੈਧਰਤੀਹੇਠਿਵਸੰਦਾਪਾਣੀ।
(ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਨੀਵੀਂ) ਧਰਤੀ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਹੇਠ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਦੇ ਹੇਠ ਵਸਦਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਜਿੱਥੇ)
The earth is under our feet but under the earth is water.
ਪਾਣੀਚਲੈਨੀਵਾਣੁਨੋਨਿਰਮਲੁਸੀਤਲੁਸੁਧੁਪਰਾਣੀ।
ਨੀਵਾਣ ਹੋਵੇ ਉਥੇ ਹੀ ਜਾਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ੁੱਧ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਜਾਂ ਧਰਤੀ ਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਖੂਹਾਂ ਆਦਿ ਵਿਚ ਤੇ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਦੇ ਡੂੰਘਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ)।
Water flows downward and makes others cool and clean.
ਬਹੁਰੰਗੀਇਕਰੰਗੁਹੈਸਭਨਾਂਅੰਦਰਿਇਕੋਜਾਣੀ।
ਫੇਰ ਇਕ ਰੰਗ ਹੋਕੇ ਬਹੁਰੰਗੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਭਨਾਂ (ਸ਼ਕਲਾਂ ਤੇ ਬਰਤਨਾਂ) ਵਿਚ ਇਕੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਜਾਣੀਦਾ ਹੈ।
Mixed with various colours it assumes those colours but in itself it is colourless common to all.
ਤਤਾਹੋਵੈਧੁਪਵਿਚਿਛਾਵੈਠੰਢਾਵਿਰਤੀਹਾਣੀ।
(ਜੇਕਰ) ਧੁੱਪ ਹੋਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਤੱਤਾ ਜੇ ਛਾਂ ਹੋਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਠੰਢਾ, (ਜਿਹਾ) ਹਾਣੀ ਹੋਵੇ ਤਿਹਾ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਹੈ।
It becomes hot in the sun and cool in the shade, that is it acts in consonance with its companions (sun and shade).
ਤਪਦਾਪਰਉਪਕਾਰਨੋਠੰਢੇਪਰਉਪਕਾਰਵਿਹਾਣੀ।
(ਗੱਲ ਕੀ) ਤਪਣ ਅਤੇ ਸੀਤਲ ਹੋਣ ਵਿਖੇ ਪਰੋਪਕਾਰ ਵਿਖੇ ਹੀ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ।
Whethger hot or cold its purpose always is other's good.
ਅਗਨਿਬੁਝਾਏਤਪਤਿਵਿਚਿਠੰਢਾਹੋਵੈਬਿਲਮੁਨਆਣੀ।
ਤੱਤਾ ਹੋਯਾ ਬੀ ਅੱਗ ਬੁਝਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਸ਼ੱਕ ਨਾਂ ਕਰਨਾਂ ਜੋ ਵਾਸਤਵ ਵਿਚ) ਠੰਢਾ ਹੋਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਦੇਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਗਦੀ (ਅੱਗ ਬੁਝਣ ਵਿਚ, ਜੇ ਅੱਗ ਰੂਪ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਤਾਂ ਕਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਬੁੱਝ ਸਕਦੀ ਸੀ?)
Though itself warm it extinguishes the fire and takes no time to get cold again.
ਗੁਰੁਸਿਖੀਦੀਏਹੁਨੀਸਾਣੀ।੧੩।
ਗੁਰ ਸਿਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਬੀ ਇਹੋ ਨੀਸਾਣੀ ਹੈ (ਧੁਨੀ ਇਹ ਕਿ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਕਿਸੇ ਹਾਲਤ ਵਿਚ ਹੋਣ ਪਰੋਪਕਾਰ ਕਰਣੋਂ ਆਲਸ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਨਗੇ।
These are the virtuous marks of the Sikh culture.
ਪਉੜੀ੧੪
ਪਾਣੀਅੰਦਰਿਧਰਤਿਹੈਧਰਤੀਅੰਦਰਿਪਾਣੀਵਸੈ।
ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਧਰਤੀ ਟਿਕੀ (ਹੋਈ) ਹੈ ਅਰ ਧਰਤੀ ਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਬੀ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਸਦਾ ਹੈ (ਪਰੰਤੂ ਫਿਰ ਬੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਇਕ ਰਸ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ)।
Earth is in water and in the earth also is water.
ਧਰਤੀਰੰਗੁਨਰੰਗਸਭਧਰਤੀਸਾਉਨਸਭਰਸਰਸੈ।
ਧਰਤੀ ਵਿਖੇ ਰੰਗ ਨਹੀਂ ਬੀ ਅਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਰੰਗ ਬੀ ਇਸ ਵਿਖੇ ਹੀ ਹਨ (ਫੁਲਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਦੇਖੋ), (ਤਿਵੇਂ ਹੀ ਕੋਈ) ਸਵਾਦ ਨਹੀਂ (ਬੀ ਅਰ) ਸਾਰੇ ਸਵਾਦ ਬੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਵਿਖੇ ਹਨ (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਫਲਾਂ ਫੁਲਾਂ ਦੁਆਰੇ ਸਭ ਰੰਗ ਤੇ ਰਸ ਧਰਤੀ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ)।
Earth has no colour yet it has all colours (in the form of different vegetation) in it.
ਧਰਤੀਗੰਧੁਨਗੰਧਬਹੁਧਰਤਿਨਰੂਪਅਨੂਪਤਰਸੈ।
ਧਰਤੀ ਵਿਖੇ ਗੰਧੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਬੀ (ਅਰ) ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਗੰਧਾਂ (ਉਸੇ ਦੀਆਂ) ਹਨ, (ਤਿਹਾ ਹੀ) ਅਨੂਪਮ ਰੂਪ ਬੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਦੇ ਹੀ (ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਵਿਖੇ ਭਾਸਦੇ) ਹਨ (ਸਾਰੇ ਲੋਕ) ('ਤਰੱਸੈ'=) ਚਾਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਰੂਪਾਂ ਨੂੰ)।
Earth has no taste yet all the tastes are contained in it.
ਜੇਹਾਬੀਜੈਸੋਲੁਣੈਕਰਮਿਭੂਮਿਸਭਕੋਈਦਸੈ।
(ਧਰਤੀ) ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਭੂਮੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਹਾ ਕੋਈ ਬੀਜਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਿਹਾ ਹੀ ਵੱਢਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਭ (ਇਹ ਗੱਲ 'ਦੱਸਦੇ' ਭਾਵ) ਪਰਵਾਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
No smell is there in the earth, yet all the fragrances reside in it.
ਚੰਦਨਲੇਪੁਨਲੇਪੁਹੈਕਰਿਮਲਮੂਤਕਸੂਤੁਨਧਸੈ।
ਚੰਦਨ ਦੇ ਲੇਪਾਂ ਨਾਲ (ਧਰਤੀ) ਲਿਪਾਇਮਾਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ, ਅਰ ਕੋਈ ਮਲ ਮੂਤ੍ਰ ਦਾ ਕਸੂਤ੍ਰ ਕਰੇ ਤਾਂ ਧਸਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ (ਗੁੱਸੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ)।
Earth is a field for actions; here one reaps what one sows.
ਵੁਠੇਮੀਹਜਮਾਇਦੇਡਵਿਲਗੈਅੰਗੂਰੁਵਿਗਸੈ।
ਮੀਂਹ ਦੇ ਵਸਿਆਂ (ਲੋਕ ਅੰਨ) ਬੀਜਦੇ ਹਨ, ਦਾਵਾ ਅਗਨੀ ਦੇ ਲਗਨ ਨਾਲ ਅੰਗੂਰ ਫੁਟਦੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ ਮੀਂਹ ਪਿਆਂ ਬੀ ਫਲ ਦੇਂਦੀ ਤੇ ਅੱਗ ਲਗਿਆਂ ਬੀ ਸਰਕੜੇ ਦੇ ਨਵੇਂ ਬੂਟੇ ਪੁੰਗਾਰਦੀ ਹੈ)।
Plastered with sandal paste, it does not get attached to it and fouled up by creatures' excreta it does not sink with anger and shame.
ਦੁਖਿਨਰੋਵੈਸੁਖਿਨਹਸੈ।੧੪।
ਦੁਖ ਵਿਖੇ ਰੋਂਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਅਰ ਸੁਖ ਵਿਖੇ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ।
After rains people sow corn in it and even after (getting heat) fire new seedlings sprout from it. It does not wail in suffering nor laughs in pleasure.
ਪਉੜੀ੧੫
ਪਿਛਲਰਾਤੀਂਜਾਗਣਾਨਾਮੁਦਾਨੁਇਸਨਾਨੁਦਿੜਾਏ।
ਪਹਿਰ ਰਾਤ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਜਾਗਣਾ ਕਰੇ, ਨਾਮ, ਦਾਨ, ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਦਾ ਅੱਭ੍ਯਾਸ ਕਰੇ।
The Sikh awakes in the pre-dawn hour and meditating upon Nan, he becomes alert for ablution and charity.
ਮਿਠਾਬੋਲਣੁਨਿਵਚਲਣੁਹਥਹੁਦੇਕੈਭਲਾਮਨਾਏ।
ਕੋਮਲ ਵਾਕ ਬੋਲੇ, ਨਿੰਮ੍ਰੀ ਭੂਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਚਲੇ, ਹਥੋਂ ਦੇਕੇ ਭਲਾ ਮਨਾਵੇ; (ਭਾਵ ਹਸਾਨ ਨਾ ਕਰੇ, ਲੈਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਦਾ ਹਸਾਨ ਜਾਣੇ)।
He speaks sweetly, moves humbly and giving away something by his hands for the well being of others feels happy.
ਥੋੜਾਸਵਣਾਖਾਵਣਾਥੋੜਾਬੋਲਨੁਗੁਰਮਤਿਪਾਏ।
ਸਵਣਾ, ਖਾਣਾ, ਬੋਲਣਾ ਥੋੜਾ ਥੋੜਾ ਕਰੇ ਅਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤ (ਸਿਖਿਆ) ਗ੍ਰਹਿਣ ਕਰੇ।
Sleeping and eating maderately he, according to the teachings of the Guru, also does not speak much.
ਘਾਲਿਖਾਇਸੁਕ੍ਰਿਤੁਕਰੈਵਡਾਹੋਇਨਆਪੁਗਣਾਏ।
ਕਮਾਈ (ਦਸਾਂ ਨੌਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਕਰਕੇ) ਖਾਵੇ, ('ਸੁਕ੍ਰਿਤ ਕਰੇ') ਭਲੇ ਕੰਮ ਕਰੇ (ਦਸਵੰਧ ਆਦਿਕ ਦਾਨ ਕਰੇ) ਪਰ ਵੱਡਾ (ਦਾਨੀ) ਬਣਕੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪ ਨਾ ਗਿਣਾਵੇ (ਇਹ ਯਾਦ ਰਖੇ 'ਤੇਰਾ ਤੁਝ ਕਉ ਸਉਪਤੇ ਕਿਆ ਲਾਗੈ ਮੇਰਾ'। ਜੇਕਰ ਮਾਲੀ ਮਾਲਕ ਦੇ ਬਾਗ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਇਕ ਡਾਲੀ ਮਾਲਕ ਨੂੰ ਦੇਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਮਾਲੀ ਦੀ ਕੀ ਹਿੰਗ ਫਟਕੜੀ ਖਰਚ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ?
He toils to earn, performs good deeds and though being great never gets his greatness noticed.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਮਿਲਿਗਾਂਵਦੇਰਾਤਿਦਿਹੈਂਨਿਤਚਲਿਚਲਿਜਾਏ।
ਜਿਥੇ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਮਿਲਕੇ ਕਥਾ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਕਰਨ ਰਾਤ ਦਿਨ ਨਿਤ ਤੁਰਕੇ ਜਾਵੇ (ਭਾਵ ਰਾਤ ਹੋਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਆਲਸ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਘੁਰਾੜੇ ਨਾ ਮਾਰੇ), (ਉਥੇ ਜਾਕੇ ਕੀ ਕਰੇ?)
Walking for day and night he reaches where Gurbant is sung in the congregation.
ਸਬਦਸੁਰਤਿਪਰਚਾਕਰੈਸਤਿਗੁਰੁਪਰਚੈਮਨੁਪਰਚਾਏ।
ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਸੁਰਤ ਵਿਖੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕਰੇ ਅਰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ (ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ ਦੇ) ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਿਖੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ 'ਪਰਚਾਵੇ' (ਪ੍ਰੇਰੇ)।
He keeps his consciousness merged in the Word and maintains in the mind love for the true Guru.
ਆਸਾਵਿਚਿਨਿਰਾਸੁਵਲਾਏ।੧੫।
ਆਸਾ ਵਿਖੇ ਨਿਰਾਸ ਹੋਕੇ ਰਹੇ, (ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਖੇ ਦੁਧ, ਪੁਤ, ਧਨ ਦੀ ਆਸਾ ਨਾ ਕਰੇ, ਕੇਵਲ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਨਿਸ਼ਕਾਮ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰੇ)।
Amid hopes and desires, he remains detached.
ਪਉੜੀ੧੬
ਗੁਰਚੇਲਾਚੇਲਾਗੁਰੂਗੁਰੁਸਿਖਸੁਣਿਗੁਰਸਿਖੁਸਦਾਵੈ।
ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਖ (ਬਣਕੇ) ਜੋ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਖ੍ਯਾ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਚੇਲਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਚੇਲਾ (ਇਕ ਰੂਪ ਹੀ) ਸਦਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Having listened to the teachings of the Guru the disciple and the Guru become one (in form and spirit).
ਇਕਮਨਿਇਕੁਅਰਾਧਣਾਬਾਹਰਿਜਾਂਦਾਵਰਜਿਰਹਾਵੈ।
ਇਕ ਮਨ ਹੋਕੇ ਇਕ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ) ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਰਖੇ ਅਰ ਬਾਹਰ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਂਦਾ (ਮਨ) ਰੋਕ ਕੇ (ਅੰਦਰ) ਰਖੇ।
He with single mind adores the one Lord and keeps his straying mind under control.
ਹੁਕਮੀਬੰਦਾਹੋਇਕੈਖਸਮੈਦਾਭਾਣਾਤਿਸੁਭਾਵੈ।
ਹੁਕਮ ਦਾ ਦਾਸ ਹੋਕੇ ('ਖਸਮ') ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲਗੇ।
He becomes obedient servant of the lord and loves His will and command.
ਮੁਰਦਾਹੋਇਮੁਰੀਦਸੋਇਕੋਵਿਰਲਾਗੁਰਿਗੋਰਿਸਮਾਵੈ।
ਜੋ ਮੁਰਦਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਵੇ ਉਹ ਮੁਰੀਦ ਹੈ (ਪਰੰਤੂ) ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ (ਮੁਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ) ਗੁਰੂ ਗੋਰ ਵਿਖੇ ਡੇਰਾ ਰਖਦਾ ਹੈ।
Any rare Sikh becoming disciple be a dead person enters the guru-grave.
ਪੈਰੀਪੈਪਾਖਾਕੁਹੋਇਪੈਰਾਂਉਪਰਿਸੀਸੁਧਰਾਵੈ।
ਪੈਰੀਂ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਖਾਕ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਰ ਹਰੇਕ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਿਖ ਦੇ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਪੁਰ ਸਿਰ ਝੁਕਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ('ਜੋ ਦੀਸੈ ਗੁਰ ਸਿਖੜਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਨਿਵਿ ਨਿਵਿ ਲਾਗਉ ਪਾਇ ਜੀਉ')।
Falling on the feet and becoming dust of the feet, he reposes his head on the feet of the Guru.
ਆਪੁਗਵਾਏਆਪੁਹੋਇਦੂਜਾਭਾਉਨਨਦਰੀਆਵੈ।
ਆਪਾ ਭਾਵ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਆਪ (ਸੁਧ) ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਉ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਹੇਠ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ, (ਹਉਮੈ ਵਾਲੀ ਮੈ ਮਰ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ)।
Becoming one with Him he loses his ego and now the sense of duality is nowhere visible with him.
ਗੁਰੁਸਿਖੀਗੁਰੁਸਿਖੁਕਮਾਵੈ।੧੬।
(ਉਕਤ) ਗੁਰ ਸਿਖੀ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰ ਸਿਖ ਹੀ ਕਮਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਦੂਜੇ ਭਾਉ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਨਹੀਂ, ਗੁਰੂ ਅੰਗਦ ਜੇਹੇ ਹੀ ਅਜਿਹੀ ਸਿਖੀ ਦਾ ਅਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ)।
Such an accomplishment is had only by Sikh of the Guru.
ਪਉੜੀ੧੭
ਤੇਵਿਰਲੇਸੈਂਸਾਰਵਿਚਿਦਰਸਨਜੋਤਿਪਤੰਗਮਿਲੰਦੇ।
(ਜੇਹੜੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ) ਜੋਤ ਦੇ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਪਤੰਗ ਵਾਂਙ (ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕਰਕੇ) ਮਿਲਦੇ ਹਨ ਓਹ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਹਨ।
Rare are those people who like a moth rush toward the flame of the glimpse (of the Lord).
ਤੇਵਿਰਲੇਸੈਂਸਾਰਵਿਚਿਸਬਦਸੁਰਤਿਹੋਇਮਿਰਗਮਰੰਦੇ।
ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਵਿਖੇ ਮਿਰਗ ਵਾਂਙ (ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਕਰਕੇ) ਜੋ ਮਰਦੇ (ਭਾਵ ਮੋਹਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ) ਉਹ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਹਨ।
They are also rare in the world who merging their consciousness in the Word die like a deer.
ਤੇਵਿਰਲੇਸੈਂਸਾਰਵਿਚਿਚਰਣਕਵਲਹੁਇਭਵਰਵਸੰਦੇ।
ਜੋ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਣ ਕਮਲਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਭਵਰ ਹੋਕੇ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਓਹ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਹਨ।
Rare are they in this world who like black bee adore lotus feet of the Guru.
ਤੇਵਿਰਲੇਸੈਂਸਾਰਵਿਚਿਪਿਰਮਸਨੇਹੀਮੀਨਤਰੰਦੇ।
(ਜੋ ਪਿਆਰੇ) ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ (ਰੂਪੀ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮੀ ਹੋਕੇ) ਮੱਛੀ ਵਾਂਙ ਤਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਓਹ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਹਨ।
Rare are (the Sikhs) in the world who becoming full of love swim like fish.
ਤੇਵਿਰਲੇਸੈਂਸਾਰਵਿਚਿਗੁਰੁਸਿਖਗੁਰੁਸਿਖਸੇਵਕਰੰਦੇ।
ਜੋ ਗੁਰ ਸਿੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ (ਮਨੋਂ ਤਨੋਂ ਹੋਕੇ) ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਓਹ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਹਨ।
Such Sikhs of the Guru are also rare who serve other Sikhs of the Guru.
ਭੈਵਿਚਿਜੰਮਨਿਭੈਰਹਨਿਭੈਵਿਚਿਮਰਿਗੁਰੁਸਿਖਜੀਵੰਦੇ।
ਭੈ ਵਿਖੇ ਜੰਮਕੇ ਭੈ ਵਿਖੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਅਰ ਭਯ ਵਿਖੇ ਹੀ ਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਓਹ ਗੁਰ ਸਿਖ (ਸਦਾ ਹੀ) ਜੀਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ। (ਭਾਵ ਬਾਲ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਥੋਂ ਧ੍ਰੂਹ ਭਗਤ ਵਾਗੂ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਵਿਖੇ ਅੰਤ ਤੀਕ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਰਖਦੇ ਹਨ, ਓਹ ਸਦਾ ਅਟੱਲ ਤੇ ਅਚਲ ਪਦਵੀ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
Taking birth and sustaining in His order (fear), the Sikhs of the Guru who die while alive (are also rare).
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਸੁਖਫਲੁਪਿਰਮੁਚਖੰਦੇ।੧੭।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਹੀ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੁ ਦਾ ਸੁਖ ਫਲ ਚਖਦੇ (ਭਾਵ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਨੰਦ ਵਿਖੇ ਸਦਾ ਮਗਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ) ਹਨ।
Thus becoming gurmukhs they taste the fruit of joy.

ਲਖਜਪਤਪਲਖਸੰਜਮਾਂਹੋਮਜਗਲਖਵਰਤਕਰੰਦੇ।
ਲੱਖਾਂ ਜਪੀਏ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਤਪੀਏ ਹਨ, ਲੱਖਾਂ ਸੰਜਮ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਵਰਤ (ਨੇਮਾਦਿਕ ਉਪਾਵ) ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
Millions of recitations, disciplines, continences, burnt oblations and fasts are performed.
ਲਖਤੀਰਥਲਖਊਲਖਾਲਖਪੁਰੀਆਲਖਪੁਰਬਲਗੰਦੇ।
ਲੱਖਾਂ ਤੀਰਥ, ਲੱਖਾਂ ਕੰਨਪਾਟੇ ਜੋਗੀਸ਼ਰ ਹਨ, ਲੱਖਾਂ ਪੁਰੀਆਂ (ਕਾਂਸ਼ੀ ਮਥਰਾਦਿਕ ਹਨ), ਲੱਖਾਂ ਪੁਰਬ (ਕੁੰਭ ਆਦਿਕ) ਲਗਦੇ ਹਨ।
Millions of holy journeys, charities are undertaken and millions of holy occasions are celebrated.
ਦੇਵੀਦੇਵਲਦੇਹੁਰੇਲਖਪੁਜਾਰੀਪੂਜਕਰੰਦੇ।
ਲੱਖਾਂ ਠਾਕਰ ਦੁਆਰੇ, ਦੇਹੁਰੇ, ਸਮਾਧਾਂ, ਲੱਖਾਂ ਪੁਜਾਰੀ ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰਣ ਹਾਰੇ ਹਨ।
In the abodes of goddesses, and the temples, millions of priests perform worship.
ਜਲਥਲਮਹੀਅਲਭਰਮਦੇਕਰਮਧਰਮਲਖਫੇਰਿਫਿਰੰਦੇ।
(ਲਖਾਂ) ਜਲਾਂ, ਥਲਾਂ, ਪ੍ਰਿਥਵੀ, ਅਕਾਸ਼ਪੁਰ ਭੌਣ ਹਾਰੇ ਹਨ, ਕਈ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਧਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਫੇਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
Moving on earth and in the sky, millions practitioners of dharma-oriented activities run hither and thither.
ਲਖਪਰਬਤਵਣਖੰਡਲਖਲਖਉਦਾਸੀਹੋਇਭਵੰਦੇ।
ਲੱਖਾਂ ਪਹਾੜਾਂ ਵਣਖੰਡਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਉਦਾਸੀ ਹੋਕੇ (ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਥ ਛੱਡਕੇ ਬਾਹਰ) ਭਟਕਦੇ ਹਨ।
Millions of people becoming unconcerned with worldy affairs go on moving in the mountains and forests.
ਅਗਨੀਅੰਗੁਜਲਾਇਂਦੇਲਖਹਿਮੰਚਲਿਜਾਇਗਲੰਦੇ।
(ਪੰਜ ਧੂਣੀਆਂ ਤਪਕੇ) ਅੰਗਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਅੱਗ ਨਾਲ ਸਾੜਦੇ ਹਨ, ਲੱਖਾਂ ਹਿਮਾਲਾ (ਪਹਾੜ ਪਰ) ਜਾ ਕੇ ਗਲ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਪਰੰਤੂ ਫਲ ਕੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ?)।
Millions are there who die by burning themselves and millions are there who die by freezing themselves In the snowy mountains.
ਗੁਰਸਿਖੀਸੁਖੁਤਿਲੁਨਲਹੰਦੇ।੧੮।
ਗੁਰਸਿੱਖੀ ਦੇ ਫਲ ਦੇ ਇਕ ਤਿਲ ਮਾਤ੍ਰ ਬੀ ਅਨੰਦ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੇ।
But they all cannot take even a fraction of joy ,Attainable in the life of a Sikh of the Guru.
ਪਉੜੀ੧੯
ਚਾਰਿਵਰਣਕਰਿਵਰਤਿਆਵਰਨੁਚਿਹਨੁਕਿਹੁਨਦਰਿਨਆਇਆ।
ਚਾਰੇ ਵਰਣਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾਂ) ਵਰਤਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਪਰੰਤੂ ਉਸ ਦਾ) ਵਰਣ ਚਿਹਨ (ਕੋਈ) ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਨਾ ਦਿਸਿਆ।
That Lord is diffused in all the four varnas, but , His own colour and mark are imperceptible.
ਛਿਅਦਰਸਨੁਭੇਖਧਾਰੀਆਂਦਰਸਨਵਿਚਿਨਦਰਸਨੁਪਾਇਆ।
ਛੀ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਦੇ ਭੇਖੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ (ਮਤ) ਵਿਖੇ (ਈਸ਼੍ਵਰ ਦਾ) ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਇਆ (ਭਾਵ ਅੰਤਹਕਰਣ ਸ਼ੀਸ਼ੇ ਦੀ ਮਲਿਨਤਾ ਦੀ ਪਕੜ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸਾਖ੍ਯਾਤਕਾਰ ਨਾ ਹੋਇਆ)।
The followers of the six philosophical orders (of India) could not see Him in their philosophies.
ਸੰਨਿਆਸੀਦਸਨਾਵਧਰਿਨਾਉਗਣਾਇਨਨਾਉਧਿਆਇਆ।
ਸੰਨਿਆਸੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਦਸ ਨਾਉਂ (ਗਿਰੀ, ਪੁਰੀ, ਭਾਰਤੀ ਆਦਿ) ਰਖਾਏ, (ਓਹ ਬੀ ਆਪੋ ਆਪਣੇ) ਨਾਉਂ ਹੀ ਗਿਣਾਉਂਦੇ ਰਹੇ, (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾਂ ਦਾ) ਨਾਮ (ਕਿਸੇ ਨਾ) ਜਪਾਇਆ।
Sannyasis giving ten names to their sects, counted His many names but donnot contemplate the Nam.
ਰਾਵਲਬਾਰਹਪੰਥਕਰਿਗੁਰਮੁਖਪੰਥੁਨਅਲਖੁਲਖਾਇਆ।
ਜੋਗੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਬਾਰਾਂ ਪੰਥ (ਭੇਖ) ਥਾਪੇ (ਪਰੰਤੂ) ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਪੰਥ ਅਲਖ ਹੀ ਰਿਹਾ, (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਨਾ ਲਖ ਸਕੇ।
Ravals (yogis) made their twelve sects but the imperceptible way of the gurmukhs could not be known by them.
ਬਹੁਰੂਪੀਬਹੁਰੂਪੀਏਰੂਪਨਰੇਖਨਲੇਖੁਮਿਟਾਇਆ।
ਬਹੁ ਰੂਪੀ ਬਾਹਲੇ ਰੂਪ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦਾ) ਕੋਈ ਰੂਪ ਰੇਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ਅਰ ਕੋਈ (ਉਸ ਦੀ) ਲਿਖਤ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਟਾ ਸਕਿਆ (ਗੱਲ ਕੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਹੱਥ ਬੀ ਕੁਝ ਨਾ ਆਇਆ)।
The mimics assumed many forms but even then they could not wipe out the writ (inscribed by the Lord) i.e. they could not attain liberation from transmigration.
ਮਿਲਿਮਿਲਿਚਲਦੇਸੰਗਲਖਸਾਧੂਸੰਗਿਨਰੰਗਰੰਗਾਇਆ।
(ਲਖਾਂ ਮੰਡਲੀਆਂ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ) ਮਿਲ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਸਾਥ ਚਲਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਪਰੰਤੂ) ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਦੇ ਰੰਗ ਵਿਖੇ ਨਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕੀਤਾ।
Though millions of people move jointly creating various leagues and sects but they also could not dye their minds in the (steadfast) colour of holy congregation.
ਵਿਣਗੁਰੁਪੂਰੇਮੋਹੇਮਾਇਆ।੧੯।

ਕਿਰਸਾਣੀਕਿਰਸਾਣਕਰਿਖੇਤਬੀਜਿਸੁਖਫਲੁਨਲਹੰਦੇ।
ਜ਼ਿਮੀਂਦਾਰ ਲੋਕ ਜ਼ਿਮੀਂਦਾਰੀ ਦੇ ਕੰਮ ਵਿਚ ਖੇਤ ਬੀਜ ਕੇ ਸੁਖ ਫਲ (ਆਤਮ ਫਲ ਨੂੰ) ਨਹੀਂ ਲੈ ਸਕਦੇ।
Farmers even having done their farming donot attain the fruit of spiritual Leasure.
ਵਣਜੁਕਰਨਿਵਾਪਾਰੀਏਲੈਲਾਹਾਨਿਜਘਰਿਨਵਸੰਦੇ।
ਵਪਾਰੀ ਲੋਕ ਵਪਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਲਾਭ ਉਠਾਕੇ ਸ੍ਵੈਸਰੂਪ ਵਿਚ ਵਾਸਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦੇ।
The traders engaged in profitable trading donot remain stablized theirselves.
ਚਾਕਰਕਰਿਕਰਿਚਾਕਰੀਹਉਮੈਮਾਰਿਨਸੁਲਹਕਰੰਦੇ।
ਨੌਕਰ ਲੋਕ ਚਾਕਰੀ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਅਹੰਤਾ ਮਮਤਾ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਲ) ਸਨੇਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਖਦੇ (ਭਾਵ ਚਾਕਰੀ ਦੀ ਖੱਟੀ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਤੇ ਰਾਗਦ੍ਵੈਖ ਦੀ ਦੂਰੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ)।
The servants go on doing their jobs but not eschewing ego Alley donot meet the Lord.
ਪੁੰਨਦਾਨਚੰਗਿਆਈਆਂਕਰਿਕਰਿਕਰਤਬਥਿਰੁਨਰਹੰਦੇ।
ਪੁੰਨ ਦਾਨਾਇਕ ਭਲਾਈਆਂ ਕਰਨਹਾਰੇ ਕਈ ('ਕਰਤਬ') ਕਰਮ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਥਿਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ (ਭਾਵ ਸਦਾ ਸਥਿਰਤਾ ਦੀ ਪਦਵੀ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦੇ)।
People, despite their virtues and charities and .even performing many duties donot remain stablized.
ਰਾਜੇਪਰਜੇਹੋਇਕੈਕਰਿਕਰਿਵਾਦੁਨਪਾਰਿਪਵੰਦੇ।
ਰਾਜੇ, ਰਯਤ, ਹੋ ਕੇ ਆਪੋ ਵਿਚ (ਕਈ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ਦੇ) ਝਗੜੇ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਪਰ ਭਉਜਲ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੇ।
Becoming rulers And subjects, people undertake many quarrels but donot go across the world wean.
ਗੁਰਸਿਖਸੁਣਿਗੁਰੁਸਿਖਹੋਇਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਕਰਿਮੇਲਮਿਲੰਦੇ।
(ਜੋ ਲੋਕ) ਗੁਰੂ (ਅਰਜਨ ਦੇਵ) ਦੇ ਸਿਖ ਹੋਕੇ, ਗੁਰ ਸਿੱਖ੍ਯਾ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਣਕੇ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਦੇ ਮੇਲ ਵਿਖੇ (ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਓਹ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਆਤਮ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਤੇ ਪਦਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਮਿਲਦੇ (ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੇ) ਹਨ।
Sikhs of the Guru, adopt teachings of the Guru, and joining the holy congregation attain that supreme Lord.
ਗੁਰਮਤਿਚਲਦੇਵਿਰਲੇਬੰਦੇ।੨੦।
(ਜੋ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖ੍ਯਾ ਵਿਖੇ ਚਲਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਅਜਿਹੇ) 'ਬੰਦੇ' ਵਿਰਲੇ ਹਨ।

ਗੁੰਗਾਗਾਵਿਨਜਾਣਈਬੋਲਾਸੁਣੈਨਅੰਦਰਿਆਣੈ।
(ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਰੂਪੀ ਜੀਭ ਥੋਂ ਬਾਝ) ਗੁੰਗਾ ਗਾਉਣਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ, (ਨਿਸਚੇ ਰੂਪੀ ਕੰਨਾਂ ਥੋਂ ਬਾਝ) ਬੋਲਾ (ਹਰਿ ਜਸ ਨੂੰ) ਸੁਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ, ਨਾ ਹੀ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਣੇ (ਭਾਵ ਧਾਰਣ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ)।
The dumb person cannot sing and the deaf cannot hear so that nothing enters their understanding.
ਅੰਨ੍ਹੈਦਿਸਿਨਆਵਈਰਾਤਿਅਨ੍ਹੇਰੀਘਰੁਨਸਿਾਣੈ।
(ਵਿਚਾਰ ਰੂਪੀ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਥੋਂ ਬਾਝ) ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਨੂੰ ਦਿਸਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ, ਰਾਤ ਹਨੇਰੀ (ਅਵਿੱਦ੍ਯਾ ਦੀ ਬਾਹੁਲਤਾ ਵਿਖੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਰੂਪ ਰੂਪੀ) ਘਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਛਾਣਦਾ।
The blind cannot see and in the dark and he cannot identify the house (he lives in).
ਚਲਿਨਸਕੈਪਿੰਗੁਲਾਲੂਲ੍ਹਾਗਲਿਮਿਲਿਹੇਤੁਨਜਾਣੈ।
ਪਿੰਗਲਾ (ਭੈ ਰੂਪੀ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਥੋਂ ਬਾਝ) ਚੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ, (ਉਪਕਾਰ ਰੂਪੀ ਹਥਾਂ ਬਾਝ 'ਲੂਲ੍ਹਾ') ਟੁੰਡਾ ਗਲ ਮਿਲਣ ਦਾ ਅਨੰਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਾਣਦਾ।
A cripple cannot keep pace and a handicapped cannot embrace to show his love.
ਸੰਢਿਸਪੁਤੀਨਥੀਐਖੁਸਰੇਨਾਲਿਨਰਲੀਆਂਮਾਣੈ।
ਸੰਢ (ਅਨੀਸ਼੍ਵਰ ਵਾਦੀ ਜੱਗ੍ਯਾਸੂ ਰੂਪ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ) ਸਪੂਤੀ (ਗਿਆਨ) ਪੁੱਤ੍ਰ ਵਾਲੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ, ਖੁਸਰੇ (ਝੂਠੇ ਗੁਰੂ) ਨਾਲ (ਜਗ੍ਯਾਸੂ ਰੂਪ ਤੀਵੀਂ) ਆਨੰਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਾਣ ਸਕਦੀ।
A barren woman cannot have a son, nor can she enjoy coition with a eunuch.
ਜਣਿਜਣਿਪੁਤਾਂਮਾਈਆਂਲਾਡਲੇਨਾਂਵਧਰੇਨਿਧਿਙਾਣੈ।
ਮਾਵਾਂ ਨੇ ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਜਣ ਜਣਕੇ ਲਾਡਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਬਦੋ ਬਦੀ (ਚੰਗੇ) ਨਾਮ ਧਰ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ ਚੰਗੇ ਨਾਵਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਕੋਈ ਸੱਚ ਮੁਚ ਚੰਗਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ)।
The mothers giving births to their sons give them pet names lovingly (but mere good names cannot make a good man).
ਗੁਰਸਿਖੀਸਤਿਗੁਰੂਵਿਣੁਸੂਰਜੁਜੋਤਿਨਹੋਇਟਟਾਣੈ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਗੁਰ ਸਿਖੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ, ਟਟਹਿਣਿਆਂ (ਦਾ ਚਾਨਣ) ਸੂਰਜ ਦੀ ਜੋਤ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਸਕਦਾ।
Sikh life without the true Guru is impossible as a glow worm cannot enlighten the sun.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਗੁਰਸਬਦੁਵਖਾਣੈ।੨੧।
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਕਮਾਏ (ਬਿਨਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ)।

ਲਖਧਿਆਨਸਮਾਧਿਲਾਇਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਰੂਪਿਨਅਪੜਿਸਕੈ।
ਲਖਾਂ ਧਿਆਨੀ ਲੋਕ ਸਮਾਧੀਆਂ ਲਾਉਂਦੇ, ਪਰੰਤੂ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਰੂਪ ਨੂੰ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੱਕੇ।
Millions of meditational postures and concentrations cannot equal the form of the gurmukh.
ਲਖਗਿਆਨਵਖਾਣਿਕਰਸਬਦਸੁਰਤਿਉਡਾਰੀਥਕੈ।
ਲੱਖਾਂ ਗਿਆਨੀ, ਵਯਾਖ੍ਯਾਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸਬਦ (ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਦੀ) ਸੁਰਤ ਦੀ ਉਡਾਰੀ ਵਿਖੇ ਥਕਤ ਹੋ ਗਏ।
Millions got tired with learning and elaborations and with flights of consciousness to reach the divine Word.
ਬੁਧਿਬਲਬਚਨਬਿਬੇਕਲਖਢਹਿਢਹਿਪਵਨਿਪਿਰਮਦਰਿਧਕੈ।
ਬੁੱਧੀ ਦੇ ਬਲ ਅਤੇ ਬਚਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਕੀਤੇ ਅੰਤ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਰੀ ਦੇ ਦਰਵਾਜੇ ਥੋਂ ਧੱਕੇ ਖਾ ਢਹਿ (ਗਿਰ) ਗਏ।
Millions of people using their intellect and powers talk of discerning wisdom but they fall and stagger, and, at the door of the Lord they get jolts and blows.
ਜੋਗਭੋਗਬੈਰਾਗਲਖਸਹਿਨਸਕਹਿਗੁਣਵਾਸੁਮਹਕੈ।
ਜੋਗੀ, ਭੋਗੀ, ਲੱਖਾਂ ਵਿਰਕਤ ਲੋਕ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਵਾਸ਼ਨਾ ਮਹਿਕ (ਭਾਵ ਸ਼ਾਨ ਸ਼ੌਕਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ)। ਦੇਖਕੇ ਸਹਾਰ ਨਾ ਸਕੇ (ਗੱਲਕੀ, ਸੁਤ, ਵਿਤ, ਲੋਕ ਦੀ ਈਖਣਾ ਵਿਖੇ ਆਕੇ ਈਸ਼੍ਵਰੀਯ ਈਖਣਾ ਥੋਂ ਹੱਥ ਧੋ ਬੈਠੇ)।
Millions of yogis, pleasure seekers and recluses cannot bear the passions and fragrance of the three qualities of nature (sattv, rajas and tamas).
ਲਖਅਚਰਜਅਚਰਜਹੋਇਅਬਿਗਤਿਗਤਿਅਬਿਗਤਿਵਿਚਿਅਕੈ।
ਲਖਾਂ ਅਚਰਜ (ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੇਖਕੇ) ਅਚਰਜ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਰ ('ਅਬਿਗਤ'=) ਪ੍ਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਗਤੀ ('ਅਬਗਤ'=) ਔਖ੍ਯਾਈ ਵਾਲੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਵਿਖੇ ਅੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
Millions of wonderstruck people have got tired of the unmanifest nature of the unmanifest Lord.
ਵਿਸਮਾਦੀਵਿਸਮਾਦੁਲਖਅਕਥਕਥਾਵਿਚਿਸਹਮਿਸਹਕੈ।
ਵਿਸਮਾਦਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਲਖਾਂ ਵਿਸਮਾਦੀ (ਲੋਕ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ) ਅਕੱਥ ਕਥਾ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਚ ਸਹਿਮ (ਡਰ) ਨਾਲ ਸਹਿਕਦੇ ਹਨ।
Millions are awe-struck, with the ineffable story of that wondrous Lord.

(ਏਹ ਸਾਰੇ) ਗੁਰਸਿੱਖੀ ਦੇ ਅੱਖ ਫਰਕਣ (ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਸਕਦੇ ਜਾਂ ਗੁਰਸਿੱਖੀ ਦੇ ਅਗੇ ਅੱਖ ਫਰਕਣ ਵਿਖੇ ਤਾਬੜ ਤੋੜ ਗਿਆਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਥਵਾ ਗੁਰਸਿਖੀ ਥੋਂ ਅੱਖ ਬੁਧੀ ਦੀ ਖਿੜ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।)
