ਪਉੜੀ੧
ਪਹਿਲਾਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਜਨਮੁਲੈਭੈਵਿਚਿਵਰਤੈਹੋਇਇਆਣਾ।
(ਜਦੋਂ) ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਨਵਾਂ ਜਨਮ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਲੈਕੇ ਨਵਾਂ ਜਨਮ ਧਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ) ਇਆਣਿਆਂ ਵਾਂਙੂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਭੈ ਵਿਚ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਜਿੱਕੁਰ ਬਾਲਕ ਡਰਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਅਵਿਹਤ ਕੰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ)।
Having been born in this world, the gurmukh becoming innocent and ignorant ducts himself in the fear of the Lord.
ਗੁਰਸਿਖਲੈਗੁਰਸਿਖੁਹੋਇਭਾਇਭਗਤਿਵਿਚਿਖਰਾਸਿਆਣਾ।
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਨੂੰ ਧਾਰਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਿਖ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਰ ਪ੍ਰੇਮਾ ਭਗਤੀ ਵਿਖੇ ਖਰਾ ਸਿਆਣਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਭਾਵ ਜਵਾਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ)।
Adopting the teaching of the Guru becomes the Sikh of the Guru and sustaining himself in the loving devotion, e leads a pure and intelligent life.
ਗੁਰਸਿਖਸੁਣਿਮੰਨੈਸਮਝਿਮਾਣਿਮਹਤਿਵਿਚਿਰਹੈਨਿਮਾਣਾ।
ਗੁਰ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਣਕੇ ਮੰਨਦਾ ਫੇਰ ਸਮਝ ਕੇ (ਨਿੱਧ੍ਯਾਸਨ ਕਰਕੇ) ਮਾਣ ਤਾਣ ਵਿਖੇ ਨਿਮਾਣਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
After listening to and understanding it, e accepts the teachings of the Guru and even earning the glories continues be humble.
ਗੁਰਸਿਖਗੁਰਸਿਖੁਪੂਜਦਾਪੈਰੀਪੈਰਹਰਾਸਿਲੁਭਾਣਾ।
ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸਿੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਿਖ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪੈਰੀਂ ਪੈਕੇ ਸੱਚੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਵਿਖੇ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
In accordance with the teachings of the Guru, he worships the e Sikhs and touching their feet and, following their virtus path, he becomes avourite of all.
ਗੁਰਸਿਖਮਨਹੁਨਵਿਸਰੈਚਲਣੁਜਾਣਿਜੁਗਤਿਮਿਹਮਾਣਾ।
ਪਰਾਹੁਣਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ (ਸੰਸਾਰ ਤੋਂ) ਚੱਲਣਾ ਜਾਣ ਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਗੁਰ ਸਿੱਖ੍ਯਾ ਮਨੋਂ (ਕਦੀ) ਨਹੀਂ ਭੁਲਾਉਂਦਾ।
Guru's instruction is never forgotten by the Sikh and he having learnt the way of considering himself as a passing guest, spends his life (purposefully) here.
ਗੁਰਸਿਖਮਿਠਾਬੋਲਣਾਨਿਵਿਚਲਣਾਗੁਰਸਿਖੁਪਰਵਾਣਾ।
ਗੁਰ ਸਿਖ (ਬਾਣੀ ਕਰਕੇ) ਮਿੱਠਾ (ਬਚਨ) ਬੋਲਦਾ (ਸਰੀਰ ਕਰਕੇ) ਨਿਵਕੇ ਚਲਦਾ (ਅਰ ਮਨ ਕਰਕੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖ੍ਯਾ ਪਰਵਾਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
The Sikh of the Guru speaks sweetly and accept humility as the proper way of life.
ਘਾਲਿਖਾਇਗੁਰਸਿਖਮਿਲਿਖਾਣਾ।੧।
ਕਮਾਈ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਆਪ) ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਕੀ ਆਪੋ ਆਪ? ਨਹੀਂ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਿਖਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਕੇ (ਵੰਡਕੇ) ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਕਿਉਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਦਾ ਬਚਨ ਹੈ:- 'ਘਾਲਿ ਖਾਇ ਕਿਛੁ ਹਥਹੁ ਦੇਇ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਰਾਹੁ ਪਛਾਣਹਿ ਸੇਇ'॥
The Gurmukh, guru-oriented person earns is livelihood by hard labour and shares his victuals with other Sikhs of the um.
ਪਉੜੀ੨
ਦਿਸਟਿਦਰਸਲਿਵਸਾਵਧਾਨੁਸਬਦਸੁਰਤਿਚੇਤੰਨੁਸਿਆਣਾ।
(ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਨੇ) ਨੇਤ੍ਰ (ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਦੇ) ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਦੀ ਲਿਵ ਵਿਖੇ ਸਾਵਧਾਨ (ਕੀਤੇ ਹਨ ਅਰ) ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਸੁਰਤ ਵਿਖੇ ਚੇਤੰਨ ਤੇ ਸਿਆਣਾ (ਹੋਯਾ) ਹੈ।
The vision of a gurmukh remains seated in his desire for the glimpse of the Lord, and by virtue of his watchful realization of the sabad, he acquires wisdom.
ਨਾਮੁਦਾਨੁਇਸਨਾਨੁਦਿੜੁਮਨਬਚਕਰਮਕਰੈਮੇਲਾਣਾ।
ਨਾਮ ਦਾਨ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਦ੍ਰਿੜ ਰਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮਨ ਬਚ ਸਰੀਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਸਭ ਨਾਲ) ਮੇਲ ਰਖਦਾ ਹੈ।
Being steadfast in meditation upon mint, charity, and ablution, he maintains co-ordination in his mind, speech and actions.
ਗੁਰਸਿਖਥੋੜਾਬੋਲਣਾਥੋੜਾਸਉਣਾਥੋੜਾਖਾਣਾ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਥੋੜਾ ਬੋਲਦਾ, ਥੋੜਾ ਸਉਂਦਾ ਅਰ ਥੋੜਾ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਭਾਵ ਇਤਨਾ ਭੁੱਖਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਕਿ ਭਜਨ ਨਾਂ ਹੋ ਸਕੇ, ਇਤਨਾ ਢਿੱਡ ਭਰਕੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਕਿ ਮੂੰਹ ਥੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ ਆ ਜਾਵੇ। ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੈ:-ਅੰਨੁ ਪਾਣੀ ਥੋੜਾ ਖਾਇਆ)।
The Sikh of the Guru speaks less, sleeps less and eats little.
ਪਰਤਨਪਰਧਨਪਰਹਰੈਪਰਨਿੰਦਾਸੁਣਿਮਨਿਸਰਮਾਣਾ।
ਪਰਾਈ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ, ਪਰਾਇਆ ਧਨ ਤਿਆਗ ਕੇ ਪਰਾਈ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਦੇ ਸੁਣਨ ਥੋਂ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸ਼ਰਮ ਰਖਦਾ ਹੈ।
Repudiating other's body (woman) and other's wealth he avoids listening to the slander of others.
ਗੁਰਮੂਰਤਿਸਤਿਗੁਰਸਬਦੁਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਸਮਸਰਿਪਰਵਾਣਾ।
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮੂਰਤੀ ਅਰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ (ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ) ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਅਰ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਨੂੰ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਪਰਵਾਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
He accepts the presence of Guru equally in the sabad (Word) and the holy congregation.
ਇਕਮਨਿਇਕੁਅਰਾਧਣਾਦੁਤੀਆਨਾਸਤਿਭਾਵੈਭਾਣਾ।
ਇਕ ਮਨ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਈਸ਼੍ਵਰ ਦੀ ਅਰਾਧਨਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਉ ਨਾਸ਼ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, (ਇਕ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦਾ) ਭਾਣਾ ਮਿੱਠਾ ਲਗਦਾ ਹੈ।
With single-mindedness he adores the one Lord, and having no sense of duality, he rejoices in the will of the Lord.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਹੋਦੈਤਾਣਿਨਿਤਾਣਾ।੨।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਤਾਣ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹੀ ਨਿਤਾਣਾ ਹੋਕੇ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾਂ ਪੁਰ ਭਰੋਸਾ ਰੱਖ ਕੇ ਆਪ ਹੁਦਰੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ)।
Despite his all powers the gurmukh considers himself meek and humble .
ਪਉੜੀ੩
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਰੰਗੁਨਦਿਸਈਹੋਂਦੀਅਖੀਂਅੰਨ੍ਹਾਸੋਈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿਸਦਾ ਓਹ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਹੁੰਦਿਆਂ ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੈ (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਨੇਤ੍ਰ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਸਫਲ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ)।
He who cannot see the grandneur of gurmukhs is blind despite his eyes.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸਮਝਿਨਸਕਈਹੋਂਦੀਕੰਨੀਂਬੋਲਾਹੋਈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ (ਦੇ ਬਚਨ ਜੋ) ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝ ਸਕਦਾ, ਕੰਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਹੁੰਦਿਆਂ ਬੋਲਾ ਹੈ।
He ‘who does not understand the idea of a gurmukh is deaf despite his ears.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸਬਦੁਨਗਾਵਈਹੋਂਦੀਜੀਭੈਗੁੰਗਾਗੋਈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ ਜੋ ਗਾਇਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਜੀਭ ਦੇ ਹੁੰਦਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਗੁੰਗਾ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
He ho does not sing the hymns of Gurmukh is dumb though having a tongue.
ਚਰਣਕਵਲਦੀਵਾਸਵਿਣੁਨਕਟਾਹੋਂਦੇਨਕਿਅਲੋਈ।
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ) ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਵਾਸ਼ਨਾਂ ਥੋਂ ਬਿਨਾਂ (ਜੋ ਹੋਇਆ ਓਹ) ਨੱਕ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੋਕੇ ਭੀ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਨਕਟਾ ਦੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ।
Devoid of the fragrance of the lotus feet of the Guru, he is supposed to be with a clipped nose (brazen-faced) despite his lovely nose.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਕਾਰਵਿਹੂਣਿਆਂਹੋਂਦੀਕਰੀਂਲੁੰਜਾਦੁਖਰੋਈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਥੋਂ ਜੋ ਬੇਮੁਖ ਹੈ, ਹੱਥਾਂ ਦੇ ਹੁੰਦਿਆਂ ਲੁੰਜਾ ਹੈ ਅਰ ਦੁਖੀ ਹੋਕੇ ਰੋਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
A person devoid of Gurmukh's sense of service is a wailing cripple, his healthy hands notwithstanding and he goes on weeping.
ਗੁਰਮਤਿਚਿਤਿਨਵਸਈਸੋਮਤਿਹੀਣੁਲਹਦਾਢੋਈ।
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤ (ਸਿਖਿਆ) ਥੋਂ ਜੋ ਬਾਹਰਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਮਤ ਹੀਣ ਹੈ ਕਿਧਰੇ ਢੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੈ ਸਕਦਾ, (ਗੱਲ ਕੀ ਨਰਕ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਰੇ ਪਰੇ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ)।
One in whose heart, the wisdom of the Guru is not sustained, is a fool who gets no shelter anywhere.
ਮੂਰਖਨਾਲਿਨਕੋਇਸਥੋਈ।੩।
ਮੂਰਖ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਸਾਥੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ (ਗੱਲ ਕੀ ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾਂ, ਬੋਲਾ, ਗੁੰਗਾ, ਨਕਟਾ, ਲੁੰਜਾ ਆਦਿ ਸਾਰੇ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਖਣ ਉਸ ਵਿਖੇ ਵਿਦਮਾਨ ਹਨ)।
The idiot has no companion.
ਪਉੜੀ੪
ਘੁਘੂਸੁਝੁਨਸੁਝਈਵਸਦੀਛਡਿਰਹੈਓਜਾੜੀ।
ਉੱਲੂ ਨੂੰ ('ਸੂਝ') ਚਾਨਣਾ (ਯਾ ਸੂਰਜ) ਨਹੀਂ ਸੁੱਝਦਾ, ਵਸਤੀਆਂ (ਪਿੰਡਾਂ) ਨੂੰ ਛਡਕੇ ਉਜਾੜੀਂ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Owl does not have any thoughtful understanding and leaving habitats lives in deserted places.
ਇਲਿਪੜ੍ਹਾਈਨਪੜ੍ਹੈਚੂਹੇਖਾਇਉਡੇਦੇਹਾੜੀ।
ਇੱਲ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੀ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਈ ਹੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਿੱਖਦੀ, ਚੂਹੇ ਖਾ ਕੇ ਦਿਨ ਭਰ ਉਡਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
Kite cannot be taught texts and eating rats keeps on flying the whole day.
ਵਾਸੁਨਆਵੈਵਾਂਸਨੋਹਉਮੈਅੰਗਿਨਚੰਨਣਵਾੜੀ।
ਵਾਂਸ ਵਿਖੇ ਵਾਸ਼ਨਾ ਹਉਮੈਂ ਦੀ ਅੱਗ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੀ, ਚੰਨਣ ਦੀ ਬਗੀਚੀ ਵਿਚ ਤਾਂ (ਇਹ ਮੇਰ ਤੇਰ) ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ।
Even being in the garden of sandal wood, the egotist bamboo does not get fragrant.
ਸੰਖੁਸਮੁੰਦਹੁਸਖਣਾਗੁਰਮਤਿਹੀਣਾਦੇਹਵਿਗਾੜੀ।
ਸੰਖ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਭੀ ਖਾਲੀ ਹੀ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰਮਤ ਥੋਂ ਹੀਣ ਹੋਣ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਦੇਹ ਵਿਗਾੜ ਲੀਤੀ ਹੈ।
As the conch remains empty though liviing in sea, the person devoid of the wisdom of Guru (gurmati) is spoiling his body.
ਸਿੰਮਲੁਬਿਰਖੁਨਸਫਲੁਹੋਇਆਪੁਗਣਾਏਵਡਾਅਨਾੜੀ।
ਸਿੰਮਲ ਦਾ ਬ੍ਰਿੱਛ ਫਲਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ, ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪ ਮੂਰਖ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਗਵਾ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
The cotton-silk tree does not bear fruit howsoever much that colourless may brag of its greatness.
ਮੂਰਖੁਫਕੜਿਪਵੈਰਿਹਾੜੀ।੪।
(ਗੱਲ ਕੀ) ਮੂਰਖ ਲੋਕ (ਰੋਂਦੜ ਅਥਵਾ) ਦਿਲ ਦੇ ਫਟੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ, ਝਗੜਿਆਂ ਅਥਵਾ ਜ਼ਿਦਾਂ ਵਿਚ (ਹੀ ਉੱਲੂਆਂ, ਇੱਲਾਂ ਵਾਂਙੂ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਭਟਕ ਭਟਕ ਕੇ ਵਾਂਸਾਂ, ਤੇ ਸਿੰਮਲ ਵਾਙੂ ਨਿਕੰਮੇ ਰਹਿਕੇ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਬਿਤੀਤ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦੇ) ਹਨ।
Only fools quarrls over trivialities.
ਪਉੜੀ੫
ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇਅਗੈਆਰਸੀਨਾਈਧਰਿਨਵਧਾਈਪਾਵੈ।
ਨਾਈ (ਆਪਦੀ) ਆਰਸੀ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਰੱਖਕੇ ਵਧਾਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਉਂਦਾ (ਪੈਸਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ)।
A barber showing mirror to a blind person never gets the reward.
ਬੋਲੈਅਗੈਗਾਵੀਐਸੂਮੁਨਡੂਮੁਕਵਾਇਪੈਨ੍ਹਾਵੈ।
ਡੂੰਮ ਬੋਲੇ ਤੇ ਸੂੰਮ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਕਿੰਨਾ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰੇ ਉਹ ਪੁਸ਼ਾਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਹਿਰਾਉਂਦੇ (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਇਕ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ, ਦੂਜਾ ਦਿਲ ਦਾ ਕੰਦਰਜ ਹੈ)।
Singing before a deaf person is in vain and likewise a miser does not present a robe to his minstrel as a gift.
ਪੁਛੈਮਸਲਤਿਗੁੰਗਿਅਹੁਵਿਗੜੈਕੰਮੁਜਵਾਬੁਨਆਵੈ।
ਵਿਗੜੇ ਹੋਏ ਕੰਮ (ਲਈ ਕੋਈ 'ਮਸਲਤ' ਸਲਾਹ ਗੁੰਗੇ ਥੋਂ ਪੁਛੋ ਅਗੋਂ ਜਵਾਬ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਅਹੁੜ ਸਕਦਾ।
If the dumb is consulted on any issue, the issue will go worse and he will not be able to answer.
ਫੁਲਵਾੜੀਵੜਿਗੁਣਗੁਣਾਮਾਲੀਨੋਨਇਨਾਮੁਦਿਵਾਵੈ।
ਫੁਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਬਗੀਚੀ ਵਿਚ ਵੜਕੇ ਗੁਣਗੁਣਾ ਮਾਲੀ ਨੂੰ ਇਨਾਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿਵਾ ਸਕਦਾ (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਘ੍ਰਾਣੇਂ ਦ੍ਰਿਯ ਨਾ ਹੋਣ ਕਰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਅਨੰਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੈ ਸਕਦਾ)।
If a person devoid of the sense of smell goes to a garden, he cannot recommend the gardener for award.
ਲੂਲੇਨਾਲਿਵਿਆਹੀਐਕਿਵਗਲਿਮਿਲਿਕਾਮਣਿਗਲਿਲਾਵੈ।
ਲੂਲ੍ਹੇ ਨਾਲ ਕੋਈ ਕਾਮਣੀ ਵਿਆਹੀ ਜਾਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਕਿੱਕੁਰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਗਲ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਕੇ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਆਪਣੇ ਗਲ ਨਾਲ ਲਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
How could a woman married to a cripple embrace him.
ਸਭਨਾਚਾਲਸੁਹਾਵਣੀਲੰਗੜਾਕਰੇਲਖਾਉਲੰਗਾਵੈ।
ਸਭਨਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਚਾਲਾਂ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਹਨ, ਲੰਗੜਾ ਆਪਣੀ ਚਾਲ ਦਾ ('ਲਖਾਉ') ਦਿਖਾਵਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਪਰ ਫੇਰ) ਲੰਗਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Where all others have a fair gait, the lame however he may pretend, would definitely be seen limping.

ਪੱਥਰ ਕਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਭਿੱਜਦਾ, ਭਾਵੇਂ ਸੈਂਕੜੇ ਵਰਹੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਰਹੇ।
Even after remaining in water for a hundred years the stone would not get wet at all.

ਕਾਲੇ ਸੱਪ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਵਿਖੇ ਮਣੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿੱਕੁਰ (ਉਹ ਉਸਦੀ) ਸਾਰ ਨਾ ਜਾਣਕੇ ਵਿਹੁ ਦਾ ਭਰਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤਿਵੇਂ ਮੂਰਖ 'ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਤਹਕਰਣ ਵਿਖੇ ਈਸ਼੍ਵਰ ਪੂਰਣ ਹੈ' ਦੀ ਸਾਰ ਨਾ ਜਾਣਕੇ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਦੀ ਵਿਖ ਵਿਖੇ ਭਰਿਆ ਹੀ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ)।

ਕੁਤਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਕੱਟਣਾ ਤੇ ਚੱਟਣਾ ਹੈ, (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਮਾਰੀਏ ਤਾਂ ਕੱਟਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਚੱਟਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਰ) ਕੁਤੇ ਦੇ ਹਲਕਪੁਣੇ ਤੇ ਮਨ ਡਰਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਚੱਟਣਾ ਕੁਤੇ ਦਾ ਸੁਭਾਉ ਹੈ, ਜੇਕਰ ਹਲਕ ਜਾਏ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਚੱਟਣਾ ਹੀ ਮਾਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਏਸ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਓਸ ਤੋਂ ਸੰਕੋਚ ਕਰਨਾ ਹੀ ਚੰਗਾ ਹੈ)। (ਅੱਗੇ ਹੋਰ ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟਾਂਤ ਦਿੰਦੇ

ਜਾਣੁਰਸਉਲੀਦੇਹਵਿਚਿਵਢੀਪੀੜਰਖੀਸਰਮਾਵੈ।
ਰਸੌਲੀ' (ਅਰਥਾਤ ਉਭਰੇ ਹੋਏ ਮਾਸ ਦੀ ਗੰਢ) ਨੂੰ ਜੇ ਵੱਢੀਏ ਤਾਂ ਪੀੜ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜੇ ਰੱਖੀ ਜਾਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਸ਼ਰਮ ਲੱਗਦੀ ਹੈ, (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਭੈੜਾ ਰੂਪ ਭਾਸਦਾ ਹੈ)।

ਹਾਥੀ ਦੇ ਨ੍ਹਾਉਣ ਵਾਂਙੂੰ (ਮੂਰਖ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਹੈ ਜਿੱਕੁਰ ਉਹ ਤਾਲੋਂ) ਬਾਹਰ ਨਿਕਲਦਾ ਹੀ (ਸਿਰ ਪੁਰ) ਸੁਆਹ ਉਡਾਂਵਦਾ ਹੈ; (ਤੇਹਾ ਮੂਰਖ ਚੰਗਾ ਕੰਮ ਕਰੇ ਭੀ ਤਾਂ ਖੇਹ ਉਡਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

Foolish gets himself entrapped and is a liar
ਤੋਤਾਨਲੀਨਛਡਈਆਪਣਹਥੀਂਫਾਥਾਚੀਕੈ।
ਤੋਤਾ ਨਲੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਛੱਡਦਾ, ਆਪਣੇ ਹੱਥੀਂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਫਸਕੇ ਪਿੱਛੋਂ ਚੀਂ ਚੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
The parrot does not leave the rod and caught in it cries and wails.

ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਆਖਿਆਂ ਲੜ ਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ ਗਲ ਪੈ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ਜੇਕਰ ਕੋਈ ਸੁਜਾਖਾ ਆਖੇ ਤਾਂ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
The blind stupid one fights to the finish if he is called blind (intellectually) and feels flattered if called eyed (a wise one).
ਭੋਲਾਆਖੇਭਲਾਮੰਨਿਅਹਮਕੁਜਾਣਿਅਜਾਣਿਨਭਾਖਾ।
(ਮੂਰਖ) ਭੋਲਾ ਆਖਿਆਂ ਭਲਾ ਮੰਨਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਹਿਮਕ ਆਖਿਆ ਜਾਣ ਬੁੱਝਕੇ ਅਜਾਣ ਹੋ ਉੱਤਰ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੰਦਾ (ਅਣਸੁਣੀ ਕਰ ਛੱਡਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਜਾਣ ਜਾਣਕੇ ਭੀ ਅਹਿਮਕ ਨਾਂ ਆਖੋ, ਭੋਲਾ ਕਹੋਗੇ ਤਾਂ ਭਲਾ ਮੰਨੇਗਾ)।

ਬ੍ਰਿੱਛਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਖੋਟਾ ਬ੍ਰਿਛ ਅਰਿੰਡ ਹੈ, ਵ੍ਯਰਥ ਹੀ (ਉਹ) ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪ ਗਣਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਉਸਦੀ ਛਾਂਉਂ ਹੇਠ ਪਾਂਧੀ ਆਰਾਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੈ ਸਕਦੇ)।

(ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਾਝ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਕਰਕੇ) ਮਜਲਸਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਬੈਠਾ (ਵਖ੍ਯਾਨ ਦੇਕੇ) ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪ (ਗਿਆਨੀ ਜਾਂ ਪੰਡਤ ਕਰਕੇ) ਦੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਵਿਚ ਤਿੰਨ ਕਾਣੇ ਵੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੇ।

ਮੂਰਖ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਕਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਨਾਂ (ਠੀਕ) ਬੋਲ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝੇ, ਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਬੋਲਣਾ ਜਾਣੇ; (ਅਰਥਾਤ ਉਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਕਿ)

(ਮੂਰਖ) ਰਾਹ ਛੱਡਕੇ ਉਜਾੜ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਰਾਹ ਦਸਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਨੂੰ (ਉਲਟਾ) ਭੁੱਲਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ।
He who leaving the path away follows a trackless waste and considers his leader gone astray, is a fool.

ਸੁਘੜਾਂਵਿਚਿਬਹਿਠਿਆਂਬੋਲਿਵਿਗਾੜਿਉਘਾੜਿਵਖਾਣੈ।
ਜੇ ਚਤੁਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਬੈਠਾਈਏ ਤਾਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਮੂਰਖਤਾ ਬੋਲ ਵਿਗਾੜ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Sitting among the noble ones he, due to his ill talk stands exposed.
ਸੁਘੜਾਂਮੂਰਖਜਾਣਦਾਆਪਿਸੁਘੜੁਹੋਇਵਿਰਤੀਹਾਣੈ।
(ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ) ਚਤੁਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੂਰਖ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਚਤੁਰ ਹੋਕੇ ('ਵਿਰਤੀਹਾਣੈ') ਹਾਣਤਾ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
The wise he considers stupid and hids his own conduct as a clever one.
ਦਿਹਨੋਰਾਤਿਵਖਾਣਦਾਚਾਮਚੜਿਕਜਿਵੇਂਟਾਨਾਣੈ।
ਦਿਨ ਨੂੰ ਰਾਤ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿੱਕੁਰ ਚਾਮ ਚੜਿੱਕੀ ਤੇ ਟਿਣਾਣਾ (ਦੋਵੇਂ ਦਿਨੇ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਰਾਤ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਦਿਨ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ)।
Like , a bat and a glow worm he describes the day as night.
ਗੁਰਮਤਿਮੂਰਖੁਚਿਤਿਨਆਣੈ।੧੫।
(ਇਸ ਲਈ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤ ਨੂੰ ਮੂਰਖ ਚਿਤ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਿਆਉਂਦਾ॥

ਵੈਦਿਚੰਗੇਰੀਊਠਣੀਲੈਸਿਲਵਟਾਕਚਰਾਭੰਨਾ।
ਇਕ ਵੈਦ ਨੇ ਚੰਗੀ ਊਠਣੀ (ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਸੰਘ ਵਿਖੇ ਕਚਰਾ ਫਸ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ) ਸਿਲਾ ਪੁਰ (ਗਿੱਚੀ ਰੱਖਕੇ) ਵੱਟੇ ਨਾਲ ਕਚਰਾ ਭੰਨਕੇ (ਰਾਜ਼ੀ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ)।
A physician in order to cure a female camel, of a melon stuck in its throat, crushed the melon in its throat by hitting out side the neck with his pestle and mortar.
ਸੇਵਕਿਸਿਖੀਵੈਦਗੀਮਾਰੀਬੁਢੀਰੋਵਨਿਰੰਨਾ।
ਇਕ ਸੇਵਕ (ਪਾਸ ਦੇਖਦਾ ਸੀ, ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਵੈਦਗੀ ਸਿੱਖਕੇ ਇਕ ਬੁੱਢੀ (ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਗਲ ਵਿਖੇ ਗਿੱਲੜ ਦੀ ਮਾਂਦਗੀ ਸੀ ਉਸੇ ਉਪਾਉ ਨਾਲ) ਜਾਨ ਮੁਕਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਤੇ ਤ੍ਰੀਮਤਾਂ ਰੋਣ ਲੱਗ ਪਈਆਂ।
His servant (who was watching) thought he had mastered the art and killed an old ill woman by the same process, causing general lamentation among women.
ਪਕੜਿਚਲਾਇਆਰਾਵਲੈਪਉਦੀਉਘੜਿਗਏਸੁਕੰਨਾ।
ਰਾਜਾ ਪਾਸ ਫੜਕੇ (ਉਸ ਕੱਚੇ ਵੈਦ ਨੂੰ ਲੋਕ) ਲੈ ਗਏ (ਜਦ) ਜੁੱਤੀਆਂ ਪੈਂਦੀਆਂ (ਵਾਰ ਨਾਂ ਆਇਆ) ਓਦੋਂ ਕੰਨ ਖੁਲ ਗਏ, (ਭਈ ਇੱਕੁਰ ਵੈਦਗੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ)।
The people seized the pretending physician and produced him before the king who ordered for him a thorough beating, upon which he came to his senses.
ਪੁਛੈਆਖਿਵਖਾਣਿਉਨੁਉਘੜਿਗਇਆਪਾਜੁਪਰਛੰਨਾ।
(ਜਦ ਲੋਕਾਂ) ਪੁੱਛਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਬਿਰਤਾਂਤ ਕਹਿ ਸੁਣਾਇਆ, ਹੁਣ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਪਾਜ ਖੁੱਲ੍ਹ ਗਿਆ।

ਪਾਰਖੂਆਂ ਨੇ ਚੁਣਕੇ ਕੱਢ ਦਿਤਾ (ਕਿ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਕੋਈ ਔਖਧੀ ਨਾਂ ਕਰੇ, ਇਹ) ਰਤਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਕੱਚ ਦੇ ਛੱਲੇ ਵਾਂਙ ਰਲਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ। (ਅੰਤ ਦੀਆਂ ਦੋ ਤੁਕਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਦੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ, ਕਿ)
The wise men threw him out as a piece of glass cannot rank with jewels.
ਮੂਰਖੁਅਕਲੀਬਾਹਰਾਵਾਂਸਹੁਮੂਲਿਨਹੋਵੀਗੰਨਾ।
ਮੂਰਖ ਅਕਲ ਥੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ ਹਨ, ਭਲਾ ਕਦੀ ਵਾਂਸ ਭੀ ਗੰਨਾ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ?
A fool has no sense as a bamboo could never equal sugar-cane.

ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇਹ ਤਾਂ ਹੈ, (ਪਰੰਤੂ ਅਕਲ ਦੇ) ਪਸੂ ਉਪਜੇ ਹਨ, (ਇਕ ਪੂਛ ਤੇ ਸਿੰਗ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ, ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਆ ਪਸੂਆਂ ਦੇ ਤੁੱਲ ਹੈ। 'ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇ ਨਰ ਅਸਲਿ ਖਰ ਜਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਸੁਣ ਗਰਬੁ ਕਰੰਤ'॥
He in fact, is an animal born in the form of a man.

ਮਹਾਦੇਵਦੀਸੇਵਕਰਿਵਰੁਪਾਇਆਸਾਹੈਦੇਪੁਤੈ।
ਸ਼ਿਵ ਦੀ ਤਪਸਿਆ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਇਕ) ਧਨੀ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤ੍ਰ ਨੇ ਵਰ ਲੀਤਾ ਸੀ (ਕਿ ਮੇਰੇ ਘਰ ਧਨ ਬਾਹਲਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਵੇ)।
The son of a banker served Mahadev and got a boon (of attaining wealth).
ਦਰਬੁਸਰੂਪਸਰੇਵੜੈਆਏਵੜੇਘਰਿਅੰਦਰਿਉਤੈ।
ਧਨ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਬਣਕੇ ਸਰੇਵੜੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਆਏ।
Wealth came to his house in the guise of sadhus of gramanic tradition.
ਜਿਉਹਥਿਆਰੀਮਾਰੀਅਨਿਤਿਉਤਿਉਦਰਬਹੋਇਧੜਧੁਤੈ।
(ਸ਼ਿਵ ਦੇ ਕਹੇ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ) ਜਿਉਂ ਜਿਉਂ (ਸਰੇਵੜੇ) ਤਲਵਾਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਕੱਟੀ ਦੇ ਸਨ ਦਰਬ ਦੇ ਢੇਰ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਸੀ।
As they were beaten, heaps of money emerged there in his house.
ਬੁਤੀਕਰਦੇਡਿਠਿਓਨੁਨਾਈਚੈਨੁਨਬੈਠੇਸੁਤੈ।
ਇਕ ਨਾਈ ਨੂੰ (ਜਿਹੜਾ) ਬੁੱਤੀ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਉਥੇ ਆਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ ਦੇਖਦਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਬੈਠਿਆਂ ਸੁਤਿਆਂ ਚੈਨ ਨਾਂ ਆਇਆ, (ਭਈ ਘਰ ਚਲਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਭੀ ਇਹ ਕੰਮ ਛੇਤੀ ਕਰਾਂ)।
A barber working in the house also saw this scene and he becoming restive lost his sleep.
ਮਾਰੇਆਣਿਸਰੇਵੜੇਸੁਣਿਦੀਬਾਣਿਮਸਾਣਿਅਛੁਤੈ।
(ਘਰ) ਆਂਵਦੇ ਹੀ ਸਰੇਵੜੇ ਬੁਲਾਕੇ ਕਤਲ ਕਰਵਾ ਦਿੱਤੇ (ਰਾਜਾ ਦੇ) ਦੀਵਾਨ ਵਿਚ ਖਬਰ ਹੋਈ ਕਿ ਨਿਰਦੋਖ ਮਾਰੇ ਗਏ ਹਨ।
Availing an opportunity he killed all the sadhus and the matter of the innocent victims came to the court of law.
ਮਥੈਵਾਲਿਪਛਾੜਿਆਵਾਲਛਡਾਇਅਨਿਕਿਸਦੈਬੁਤੈ।
ਸਿਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਾਲਾਂ ਥੋਂ ਫੜੀਦਾ (ਨਾਈ) ਧਰਤੀ ਪੁਰ ਘਸੀਟਿਆ ਗਿਆ, ਹੁਣ ਕਿਸ ਦੇ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਵਾਲ ਛੁਡਾਏ (ਮਾਰਿਆ ਗਿਆ), (ਜਾਣੋਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਦਾ ਫਲ ਪਾ ਲੀਤਾ। ਸਤਵੀਂ ਤੁਕ ਵਿਖੇ ਫਲ ਦੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ)।
Catching hold from his hair he was thrashed. Now by what power he will give rescued from that clutch.
ਮੂਰਖੁਬੀਜੈਬੀਉਕੁਰੁਤੈ।੧੭।
ਮੂਰਖ ਲੋਕ ਕੁਰੁਤਾ ਬੀਜ ਬੀਜਦੇ ਹਨ (ਦੇਖਾ ਦੇਖੀ ਭੈੜਾ ਕੰਮ ਕਰ ਬੈਠਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਦ ਫਲ ਦਾ ਵੇਲਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਫਲ ਦੀ ਥਾਂ ਸੁਆਹ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ, ਤਦੋਂ ਮਾਪੇ ਮਰ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਕੋਈ ਰਾਖਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣਦਾ)।
The foolish sows seeds out of season (and suffers loss).
ਪਉੜੀ੧੮
ਗੋਸਟਿਗਾਂਗੇਤੇਲੀਐਪੰਡਿਤਨਾਲਿਹੋਵੈਜਗੁਦੇਖੈ।
(ਰਾਜਾ ਭੋਜ ਦੇ ਉਜੈਨ ਨਾਮੇ ਨਗਰ ਵਿਖੇ ਇਕ) ਗਾਂਗਾ ਤੇਲੀ (ਅੱਖੋਂ ਲਾਵਾਂ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਸੀ, ਉਸ ਦੀ) ਚਰਚਾ (ਇਕ) ਪੰਡਤ ਨਾਲ (ਜੋ ਦਿਗ ਬਿਜਯ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ) ਹੋਣ ਵੇਲੇ ਬਾਹਲੇ ਲੋਕ ਕੱਠੇ ਹੋਏ।
A discussion between Gangu, the oilman and a pandit was being witnessed by one and all.
ਖੜੀਕਰੈਇਕਅੰਗੁਲੀਗਾਂਗਾਦੁਇਵੇਖਾਲੈਰੇਖੈ।
(ਪੰਡਤ ਨੇ) ਇਕ ਅੰਗੁਲੀ ਖੜੀ ਕੀਤੀ (ਭਈ ਇਕ ਹੀ ਨਿਰਗੁਣ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਹੈ) ਗਾਂਗੇ ਨੇ ਦੋ ਉਗਲਾਂ ਖੜੀਆਂ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ (ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਦੋ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਤੇਰੀਆਂ ਕੱਢ ਦੇਵਾਂਗਾ। ਪੰਡਤ ਨੇ ਜਾਤਾ ਭਈ ਇਹ ਨਿਰਗੁਣ ਤੇ ਸਰਗੁਣ ਦੋ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਦਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ)।
Showing one finger to Gang/ the pandit indicated that the Lord is one. But Gangu thought that he wanted to extract his (Ganges) one eye and hence he showed two fingers indicating that he will bring out both of his (pandit's) eyes.
ਫੇਰਿਉਚਾਇਪੰਜਾਂਗੁਲਾਗਾਂਗਾਮੁਠਿਹਲਾਇਅਲੇਖੈ।
(ਹੁਣ ਪੰਡਤ ਨੇ) ਪੰਜ ਉਂਗਲਾਂ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ (ਕਿ ਪਰਮੇਸਰ ਪੰਜ ਕਾਮਾਦਿ ਵਿਖ੍ਯ ਜਿੱਤਣ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ), (ਗਾਂਗੇ ਤੇਲੀ ਨੇ) ਮੁਕੀ ਵੱਟਕੇ ਹਲਾਈ (ਅੱਖ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਾਰਤ ਕੀਤੀ ਭਾਵ ਕਿ ਤੁਸੀ ਪੰਜ ਜਣੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਇਕ ਮੁੱਕੀ ਦੀ ਮਾਰ ਹੋ)।
But the pandit thought that Gangu is hinting at the two dimensions of Lord - nirgun (beyond all virtues) and sagun, (with all virtues).
ਪੈਰੀਂਪੈਉਠਿਚਲਿਆਪੰਡਿਤੁਹਾਰਿਭੁਲਾਵੈਭੇਖੈ।
ਭੇਖ ਦੇ ਭਲਾਵੇ ਪੰਡਤ ਹਾਰਕੇ ਪੈਰੀਂ ਪੈਕੇ ਉਠਕੇ ਚਲਾ ਗਿਆ।
Pandit now raised five fingers to show that His two forms are due to the five elements, but, considering the pandit as indicating that with five fingers he would scratch the face of Gangu,
ਨਿਰਗੁਣੁਸਰਗੁਣੁਅੰਗਦੁਇਪਰਮੇਸਰੁਪੰਜਿਮਿਲਨਿਸਰੇਖੈ।
(ਇਹ ਉਪਰ ਦੱਸ ਆਏ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਦੋ ਤੇ ਪੰਜ ਦਾ ਭਾਵ ਪੰਡਤ ਨੇ ਕੀ ਸਮਝਿਆ ਸੀ) ਨਿਰਗੁਣ ਸਰਗੁਣ ਦੋ ਪੱਖ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਪੰਜ (ਦੂਤਾਂ) ਦੇ ਸਰ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਪਰਮੇਸੁਰ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
Gangs brandished his fist showing that he would kill him by the stroke of his fist. Now pandit felt that he was being made to understand that unity of five elements was the cause of the creation.
ਅਖੀਂਦੋਵੈਂਭੰਨਸਾਂਮੁਕੀਲਾਇਹਲਾਇਨਿਮੇਖੈ।
(ਤੇ ਗਾਂਗਾ ਇਹ ਕਹਿੰਦਾ ਸੀ, ਕਿ) ਦੋਵੇਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਭੰਨ ਦਿਆਂਗਾ, ਇਕ ਨਿਮਖ ਵਿਚ ਮੁਕੀ ਲਾਕੇ ਹਿਲਾ (ਹਰਾ) ਦਿਆਂਗਾ।
Mistakingly the pandit accepted his defeat and fell at his opponent's feet and left the place. In fact the fool had meant that he would bring out his eyes and attack with a tight fist but this was interpreted differently by the pandit.
ਮੂਰਖਪੰਡਿਤੁਸੁਰਤਿਵਿਸੇਖੈ।੧੮।
ਮੂਰਖ ਤੇ ਪੰਡਤ ਵਿਖੇ ਗ੍ਯਾਤ ਦੀ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ਤਾ ਹੈ।
Thus because of his specific thinking even the pandit was also proved a fool.
ਪਉੜੀ੧੯
ਠੰਢੇਖੂਹਹੁੰਨ੍ਹਾਇਕੈਪਗਵਿਸਾਰਿਆਇਆਸਿਰਿਨੰਗੈ।
(ਇਕ ਖੱਤ੍ਰੀ) ਠੰਢ (ਦੇ ਦਿਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਖੂਹ ਪੁਰ ਨ੍ਹਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੀ ਪੱਗ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਸਾਰਕੇ ਨੰਗੇ ਸਿਰ ਘਰ ਆਇਆ।
Having taken bath on the well, a person forgot his turban and returned home bare headed.
ਘਰਵਿਚਿਰੰਨਾਂਕਮਲੀਆਂਧੁਸੀਲੀਤੀਦੇਖਿਕੁਢੰਗੈ।
ਘਰ ਵਿਖੇ ਤ੍ਰੀਮਤਾਂ ਕਮਲੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਕੁਢੰਗੇ (ਬਾਬੇ ਦਾ ਭੈੜਾ ਢੰਗ ਦੇਖ ਖਲੋਕੇ) ਮੱਥੇ ਤੇ ਹੱਥ ਮਾਰ ਪਿੱਟਣ ਲੱਗ ਪਈਆਂ (ਕਿ ਕੋਈ ਮਰ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਬਾਬੇ ਦੀ ਪੱਗ ਲੱਥੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ)।
Seeing his improper conduct (of being bare headed) the silly women started weeping and wailing (Seeing turbanless master of the house they conjectured the death of some one in the family).
ਰੰਨਾਂਦੇਖਿਪਿਟੰਦੀਆਂਢਾਹਾਂਮਾਰੈਂਹੋਇਨਿਸੰਗੈ।
ਤ੍ਰੀਮਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਆਪਾ ਕਰਦੀਆਂ ਦੇਖਕੇ (ਘਰ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਲੋਕ) ਧਾਹਾਂ ਨਿਸੰਗ ਹੋਕੇ ਮਾਰਣ ਲੱਗ ਪਏ।
Seeing the weeping women, others too, began mourning. People gethered and sitting in lines started condoling with the family.
ਲੋਕਸਿਆਪੇਆਇਆਰੰਨਾਂਪੁਰਸਜੁੜੇਲੈਪੰਗੈ।
ਬਾਹਰੋਂ (ਰੌਲਾ ਸੁਣਕੇ) ਸਿਆਪੇ ਤੇ ਤ੍ਰੀਮਤਾਂ ਤੇ ਪੁਰਖ ਪੰਗਤ ਲਾਕੇ ਜੁੜ ਬੈਠੇ (ਤੇ ਅਫਸੋਸ ਕਰਨ ਲੱਗੇ)।
Now the barber woman who leads the mourning on occasions asked as to who is to be wept and whose dirge she should lead, i.e. what is the name of the dead.
ਨਾਇਣਪੁਛਦੀਪਿਟਦੀਆਂਕਿਸਦੈਨਾਇਅਲ੍ਹਾਣੀਅੰਗੈ।
('ਅੰਗੇ') ਵੇਹੜੇ ਵਿਚ ਨਾਇਣ (ਆਕੇ) ਤ੍ਰੀਮਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਿੱਟਦੀਆਂ (ਦੇਖ) ਪੁੱਛਣ ਲੱਗੀ, ਕਿਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਉਂ ਦੀ ਮੈਂ ਅਲਾਹੁਣੀ ਲਵਾਂ (ਹੈ ਹੈ ਮੋਰਨੀ ਆਖਾਂ ਕਿ ਹੈ ਵੇ ਝਨਾਉਂ ਦਿਆ ਲਾੜਿਆ ਆਖਾਂ, ਕਿਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਉਂ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਪਿਟਾਵਾਂ?)
The daughter-in-law of family hinted towards father-in-law to elicit answer of this question (because he was found bare headed.

(ਨੂੰਹ ਬੋਲੀ ਮੇਰੇ) ਸਹੁਰੇ ਨੂੰ (ਜਿਹੜਾ ਪੱਗ ਲੱਥੀ ਘਰ ਆਇਆ ਹੈ) ਜਾਕੇ ਪੁੱਛੋ ਕਿ ਨੂੰਹ ਉੱਤਰ ਮੰਗਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਕੌਣ ਮਰ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ? (ਮੁਕਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਸਹੁਰੇ ਨੇ ਸਿਰ ਨੰਗਾ ਦੇਖਕੇ ਖੂਹ ਥੋਂ ਦੌੜਕੇ ਪੱਗ ਸਿਰ ਬੱਧੀ, ਤ੍ਰੀਮਤਾਂ ਆਪੋ ਆਪਣੀ ਘਰੀਂ ਕਾਂਵਾਂ ਰੌਲੀ ਪਾਕੇ ਪੱਤ੍ਰਾ ਵਾਚੀਆਂ)।
Then the fact was disclosed by him that he just forgot to wear turban).

ਜੇਕਰ ਮੂਰਖ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਾਈਏ ਤਾਂ ਛਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਧੁੱਪ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਦਾ।
Even if told about the shade and the sunshine, the fool does not understand it.
ਅਖੀਂਪਰਖਿਨਜਾਣਈਪਿਤਲਸੁਇਨਾਕੈਹਾਂਰੁਪਾ।
ਅੱਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਪਿੱਤਲ ਸੋਨੇ ਦੀ ਅਰ ਕੈਂਹੇ ਤੇ ਰੁੱਪੇ ਦੀ ਪਰਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ।
