ੴਸਤਿਗੁਰਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ॥

ਪਉੜੀ੧
ਸਉਦਾਇਕਤੁਹਟਿਹੈਪੀਰਾਂਪੀਰੁਗੁਰਾਂਗੁਰੁਪੂਰਾ।
(ਨਾਮ ਦਾ) ਸਾਉਦਾ ਇਕੋ ਹੱਟ ਵਿਖੇ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਹੱਟ ਕੋਣ ਹੈ?), ਪੀਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਪੀਰ ਅਰ ਗੁਰੂਆਂ ਗੁਰੂ (ਗੁਰੂ ਅਰਜਨ ਦੇਵ) ਪੂਰਣ ਗੁਰੂ ਹੈ। ਅਗੇ ਹੇਤੁ ਦੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ)।
Merchandise (of truth) is available only at that centre wherein sits the pit of the pits and the perfect Guru of the gurus.
ਪਤਿਤਉਧਾਰਣੁਦੁਖਹਰਣੁਅਸਰਣੁਸਰਣਿਵਚਨਦਾਸੂਰਾ।
ਪਾਪੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਉਧਾਰ ਅਰ ਦੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ (ਕਾਰਣ ਹੈ) ਅਸ਼ਰਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਣ ਅਰ ਬਚਨ ਪਾਲਕ ਹੈ (ਹੋਰ ਹੱਟਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਇਹ ਕੰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦੇ)।
He is saviour of the fallen, dispeller of sufferings, and shelter of the shelterless.
ਅਉਗੁਣਲੈਗੁਣਵਿਕਣੈਸੁਖਸਾਗਰੁਵਿਸਰਾਇਵਿਸੂਰਾ।
ਸਿਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਅਵਗੁਣ ਲੈਕੇ (ਹਟਾ ਕੇ) ਗੁਣ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਹੋਣ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਝੋਰੇ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
He takes away our demerits and bestows virtues.
ਕੋਟਿਵਿਕਾਰਹਜਾਰਲਖਪਰਉਪਕਾਰੀਸਦਾਹਜੂਰਾ।
ਹਜ਼ਾਰਾਂ, ਲੱਖਾਂ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ (ਨੂੰ ਕੱਟਦੇ ਹਨ, ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ) ਪਰੋਪਕਾਰੀ ਹਨ ਅਰ ਸਦਾ (ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ) ਹਾਜ਼ਰ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
Instead, ocean of delights, the Lord makes us forget grief and disappointment.
ਸਤਿਨਾਮੁਕਰਤਾਪੁਰਖੁਸਤਿਸਰੂਪੁਨਕਦਹੀਊਰਾ।
ਸਤਿਨਾਮ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖ (ਦਾ ਮੰਤਰ ਹੈ), (ਆਪ) ਸਤ ਸਰੂਪ ਹਨ, ਕਦੀ ਘੱਟ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੇ (ਭਾਵ ਤ੍ਰਿਕਾਲਾਬਾਧ ਹਨ)।
He, the decimater of lacs of evils, is benevolent and ever present. He whose name is Truth, creator Lord, the truth form, never becomes incomplete i.e. He is ever complete.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਸਚਖੰਡਵਸਿਅਨਹਦਸਬਦਵਜਾਏਤੂਰਾ।
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਦੇ ਸੱਚੇ ਖੰਡ ਵਿਖੇ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਰਖਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਨਾਹਦ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੇ ਸਦਾ ਵਾਜੇ ਵਜਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਜੈਸੇ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਅਖੰਡਾਕਾਰ ਧੁਨੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਜਿਥੇ ਸਤਿਸੰਗ ਹੋਵੇ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਦੂਜੇ ਅਨਾਹਦ ਨਾਮ, ਅੱਭਯਾਸ ਦਾ ਇਕ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਹੈ, ਕੰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਘੂੰ ਘੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
Residing in the holy congregation, the abode of truth,
ਦੂਜਾਭਾਉਕਰੇਚਕਚੂਰਾ।੧।
ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਵ (ਅਗਯਾਨ) ਨੂੰ ਚਕਨਾਚੂਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
He blows the trumpet of unstruck melody and shatters the sense of duality.

ਪਾਰਸਪਰਉਪਕਾਰਕਰਿਜਾਤਨਅਸਟਧਾਤੁਵੀਚਾਰੈ।
ਪਾਰਸ ਪਰੋਪਕਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅੱਠਾਂ ਧਾਤਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਜਾਤਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਿਚਾਰਦਾ (ਕਿ ਇਹ ਧਾਤ ਕਿਹੜੀ ਜਾਤ ਦੀ ਹੈ)।
The philosopher's stone when showering benevolence (of making gold)
ਬਾਵਨਚੰਦਨਬੋਹਿਂਦਾਅਫਲਸਫਲੁਨਜੁਗਤਿਉਰਧਾਰੈ।
ਬਾਵਨ ਚੰਦਨ ਬੀ ਅਫਲ ਸਫਲ (ਸਭ ਬਨਾਸਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ) ਸੁਗੰਧੀ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਪਰ) ਜੁਗਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਉਰ ਵਿਖੇ ਧਾਰਦਾ (ਇਸ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਪਕਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਵਿਗਾੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਰੱਖਦਾ)।
Does not take into consideration the kind, and caste of the eight metals (alloy).
ਸਭਤੇਇੰਦਰਵਰਸਦਾਥਾਉਂਕੁਥਾਉਂਨਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਧਾਰੈ।
ਇੰਦਰ ਬੀ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਥਾਵਾਂ ਪੁਰ ਵਰ੍ਹਦਾ ਹੈ, ਥਾਉਂ ਕਥਾਉਂ ਵਿਚਾਰਕੇ ਜਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੰਦਾ (ਜਲਾਂ ਥਲਾਂ ਪੁਰ ਸਮਾਨ ਵਰ੍ਹਦਾ ਹੈ)।
Sandal makes all trees fragrant and their fruitlessness and fruitfulness never occurs to its mind.
ਸੂਰਜਜੋਤਿਉਦੋਤਕਰਿਓਤਪੋਤਿਹੋਕਿਰਣਪਸਾਰੈ।
ਸੂਰਜ ਆਪਣੇ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਨੂੰ ਉਦਯ ਕਰ ਕੇ ('ਓਤ ਪੋਤ' ਕਹੀਏ) ਧਰਤੀ ਅਕਾਸ਼ ਵਿਖੇ ਇਕੋ ਜਿਹੀਆਂ ਕਿਰਣਾਂ ਪਸਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਨੀਵੀਂ ਉਚੀ ਥਾਉਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਵੇਖਦਾ)
The sun rises and spreads its rays equally at all the places.
ਧਰਤੀਅੰਦਰਿਸਹਨਸੀਲਪਰਮਲਹਰੈਅਵਗੁਣਨਚਿਤਾਰੈ।
ਧਰਤੀ ਵਿਖੇ ਸਹਿਣਸ਼ੀਲਤਾ ਹੈ ਪਰਾਈ ਮੈਲ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਹਟਾਕੇ (ਆਪ ਲੈਂਦੀ) ਅਵਗੁਣਾਂ ਵੱਲ ਧਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੇਂਦੀ ਹੈ। (ਹੁਣ ਅੰਤਲੀਆਂ ਦੋ ਤੁਕਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਉਤਲੇ ਕਥਨ ਦਾ ਮਤਲਬ ਦੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ)।
Tolerance is the virtue of earth which accepts the refuse of others and never beholds their demerits.
ਲਾਲਜਵਾਹਰਮਣਿਲੋਹਾਸੁਇਨਾਪਾਰਸਜਾਤਿਬਿਚਾਰੈ।
ਲਾਲ ਜਵਾਹਰ, ਮਣੀ ਅਰ ਪਾਰਸ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਸਕੇ ਜੋ ਲੋਹੇ ਥੋਂ ਸੋਨਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਜਾਤੀ ਅਭਿਮਾਨ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Similarly, jewels, rubies, pearls, iron, philosopher's stone, gold etc. preserve their innate nature.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਕਾਅੰਤੁਨਪਾਰੈ।੨।
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਦੇ ਪਾਰ (ਉਰਾਰ ਦਾ ਕੁਝ) ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ, (ਸਤਿਸੰਗ ਵਿਖੇ ਜਾਤੀ ਅਭਿਮਾਨ ਬੀ ਉਡ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ)।
No limits are there of (the benevolence of) the holy congregation.
ਪਉੜੀ੩
ਪਾਰਸਧਾਤਿਕੰਚਨੁਕਰੈਹੋਇਮਨੂਰਨਕੰਚਨਝੂਰੈ।
ਪਾਰਸ ਧਾਤ ਨੂੰ ਕੰਚਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵੇਂ ਕੋਈ ਧਾਤ ਹੋਵੇ) (ਪਰੰਤੂ) ਲੋਹੇ ਦੀ ਮੈਲ ਕੰਚਨ ਨਾ ਹੋਣ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਝੁਰਦੀ ਹੈ।
Philosopher's stone transforms metal into gold but the dross of iron does not become gold and is hence disappointed.
ਬਾਵਨਬੋਹੈਬਨਾਸਪਤਿਬਾਂਸੁਨਿਗੰਧਨਬੁਹੈਹਜੂਰੈ।
ਬਾਵਨ ਚੰਦਨ (ਸਾਰੀ) ਬਨਾਸਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਗੰਧਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰੰਤੂ ਨਿਗੰਧ ਬਾਂਸ, ਕੋਲ ਰਹਿਕੇ ਬੀ ਸੁਗੰਧਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ।
Sandalwood makes the whole vegetation fragrant but the nearby bamboo remains devoid of fragrance.
ਖੇਤੀਜੰਮੈਸਹੰਸਗੁਣਕਲਰਖੇਤਿਨਬੀਜਅੰਗੂਰੈ।
(ਬਰਖਾ ਹੋਇਆਂ) ਖੇਤੀ ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਗੁਣਾ ਹੋਕੇ ਜੰਮਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪਰੰਤੂ ਕੱਲਰੇ ਖੇਤ ਵਿਚ ਬੀਜ ਨਹੀਂ ਉਗਦਾ।
On sowing seed, the earth produces thousand times more but in the alkaline soil the seed does not germinate.
ਉਲੂਸੁਝਨਸੁਝਈਸਤਿਗੁਰੁਸੁਝਸੁਝਾਇਹਜੂਰੈ।
ਉੱਲੂ ਨੂੰ ਸੂਰਜ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ, ਪਰੰਤੂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਸੂਰਜ ਤਾਂ ਪਰਮੇਸੁਰ ਦਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕਰਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ ਸੂਰਜ ਥੋਂ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਹਨ)।
The owl cannot see (the sun) but the true Guru bestowing the understanding about that Lord makes one see Him really and clearly.
ਧਰਤੀਬੀਜੈਸੁਲੁਣੈਸਤਿਗੁਰੁਸੇਵਾਸਭਫਲਚੂਰੈ।
ਧਰਤੀ ਵਿਖੇ ਜੋ ਬੀਜੀਏ ਸੋ ਕੱਟੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਵਿਖੇ ਸਾਰੇ (ਧਰਮਾਦਿ) ਫਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
Only that which is sown in the earth is reaped but by serving the true Guru all sorts of fruits are attained.
ਬੋਹਿਥਪਵੈਸੋਨਿਕਲੈਸਤਿਗੁਰੁਸਾਧੁਅਸਾਧੁਨਦੂਰੈ।
ਜਹਾਜ਼ ਵਿਖੇ ਜੋ ਵਸਤੂ ਪਾਈਦੀ (ਲਈਦੀ) ਹੈ, ਉਹੋ ਨਿਕਲੇਗੀ, ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਜਹਾਜ਼ ਭੈੜੀਆਂ ਵਸਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਵਸਤਾਂ (ਹੀ ਕੱਢਦੇ) ਹਨ।
As whoever boards the ship gets across, similarly the true Guru makes no distinction between the virtuous
ਪਸੂਪਰੇਤਹੁਂਦੇਵਵਿਚੂਰੈ।੩।
ਪਸ਼ੂਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਪਰੇਤਾਂ ਥੋਂ ਦੇਵਤਾ (ਅਗ੍ਯਾਨੀ ਥੋਂ ਗਿਆਨੀ, ਨੀਚ ਯੋਨੀ ਥੋਂ ਉਤਮ ਯੋਨੀ) ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
And the wicked and makes even animals and ghosts follow a godly life.
ਪਉੜੀ੪
ਕੰਚਨੁਹੋਵੈਪਾਰਸਹੁਂਕੰਚਨਕਰੈਨਕੰਚਨਹੋਰੀ।
ਪਾਰਸ ਤੋਂ ਸੋਨਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰੰਤੂ ਉਹ ਕੰਚਨ ਹੋਰ ਨੂੰ ਸੋਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ (ਇਥੇ ਸਿਖ ਬੀ ਹੋਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਖ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ)।
Gold is made by the (touch of the) philosopher's stone but gold itself cannot produce gold.
ਚੰਦਨਬਾਵਨਚੰਦਨਹੁਂਓਦੂੰਹੋਰੁਨਪਵੈਕਰੋਰੀ।
ਬਾਵਨ ਚੰਦਨ ਤੋਂ ਚੰਦਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਹੋਰ ਬੂਟੇ ਵਿਚ ('ਕਰੋਰੀ') ਵਾਸ਼ਨਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦੀ (ਅਥਵਾ ਕਰੋੜਾਂ ਬੂਟੇ ਜਿਉਂ ਦੇ ਤਿਉਂ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ)।
Sandal tree makes other tree fragrant but the latter cannot further make other trees fragrant.
ਵੁਠੈਜੰਮੈਬੀਜਿਆਸਤਿਗੁਰੁਮਤਿਚਿਤਵੈਫਲਭੋਰੀ।
ਮੀਂਹ ਦੇ ਵਰ੍ਹਿਆਂ ਬੀਜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਜੰਮਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਖਿਆ ਦੇ ਚਿਤਵਣ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਛੇਤੀ ਫਲ (ਮਿਲਦਾ) ਹੈ।
Sown seed sprouts only after it rains but adopting the teachings of the Guru, one attain fruit instantly.
ਰਾਤਿਪਵੈਦਿਹੁਆਥਵੈਸਤਿਗੁਰੁਗੁਰੁਪੂਰਣਧੁਰਧੋਰੀ।
ਰਾਤ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਤਦੋਂ ('ਦਿਨ') ਸੂਰਜ ਡੁਬ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, 'ਸਤਿਗੁਰ' (ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ) ਜੀ ਪੂਰਨ ਮਰਯਾਦਾ ਦੇ ਧਾਰਣ ਹਾਰੇ (ਇਕ ਰਸ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ) ਹਨ।
The sun sets at the fall of night but the perfect Guru is there all the time.
ਬੋਹਿਥਪਰਬਤਨਾਚੜ੍ਹੈਸਤਿਗੁਰੁਹਠਨਿਗ੍ਰਹੁਨਸਹੋਰੀ।
ਪਰਬਤ ਜਹਾਜ਼ ਪਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਚੜ੍ਹਦਾ ਪਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ (ਪਰਬਤ ਸਰੀਖੇ) ਹਠੀ ਸੁਭਾਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬੀ ਤਾਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
As a ship cannot mount the mountain forcibly similarly, forced control over the senses is not liked by the true Guru.
ਧਰਤੀਨੋਭੁੰਚਾਲਡਰਗੁਰੁਮਤਿਨਿਹਚਲਚਲੈਨਚੋਰੀ।
ਧਰਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਚਾਲ ਦਾ ਭਯ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਖ੍ਯਾ ਅਚੱਲ ਹੈ, ਮਾੜਿਆਂ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਚਲਾਇਮਾਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਣ ਦੇਂਦੀ।
The earth may be scared of a quake and it becomes restive in its place but the Gurmat, Guru's tenets are steadfast and unconcealed.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਰਤਨਪਦਾਰਥਬੋਰੀ।੪।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਰਤਨ ਪਦਾਰਥ (ਵੈਰਾਗ ਪਦਾਰਥ) ਦੀ ਬੋਰੀ (ਭਰੇ ਹੋਏ) ਹਨ।
The true Guru, in fact, is a bag full of jewels.
ਪਉੜੀ੫
ਸੂਰਜਚੜਿਐਲੁਕਜਾਨਿਉਲੂਅੰਧਕੰਧਜਗਿਮਾਹੀ।
ਸੂਰਜ ਦੇ ਉਦਯ ਹੋਣ ਨਾਲ ਉੱਲੂ ਕੰਧ ਵਾਗੂੰ ਅੰਧੇ (ਅਥਵਾ ਅੰਧੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਦੇ) ਜਗਤ ਵਿਖੇ ਲੁਕ ਜਾਂਦੇ (ਬ੍ਰਿੱਛਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਛਿਪ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਸਨ)।
On sun-rise, the owls blind like wall hide themselves in the world.
ਬੁਕੇਸਿੰਘਉਦਿਆਨਮਹਿਜੰਬੁਕਮਿਰਗਨਖੋਜੇਪਾਹੀ।
(ਜਦ 'ਸਿੰਘ') ਸ਼ੇਰ ਜੰਗਲ ਵਿਖੇ ਭਬਕਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗਿੱਦੜ ਤੇ ਮਿਰਗਾਂ ਦਾ ਖੋਜ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭਦਾ।
When the lion roars in the jungle, the jackals, deer etc. are not found around.
ਚੜ੍ਹਿਆਚੰਦਅਕਾਸਤੇਵਿਚਿਕੁਨਾਲੀਲੁਕੈਨਾਹੀ।
ਅਕਾਸ਼ ਪੁਰ ਚੰਦ ਚੜ੍ਹਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ (ਕੋਈ) ਕੁਨਾਲੀ (ਨਾਲ ਲੁਕਾਇਆ ਚਾਹੇ ਤਾਂ) ਲੁਕਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ।
Moon in the sky cannot be concealed behind a small plate.
ਪੰਖੀਜੇਤੇਬਨਬਿਖੈਡਿਠੇਬਾਜਨਠਉਰਿਰਹਾਹੀ।
ਜਿਤਨੇ ਬਨ ਵਿਖੇ ਪੰਖੀ ਹਨ ਬਾਜ ਦੇ ਦੇਖਣ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਥਾਵਾਂ ਛੱਡਕੇ ਨੱਠੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
Seeing a hawk all the birds in the forest leave their places and become restive (and flutter for their safety).
ਚੋਰਜਾਰਹਰਾਮਖੋਰਦਿਹੁਚੜ੍ਹਿਆਕੋਦਿਸੈਨਾਹੀ।
ਚੋਰ, ਯਾਰ, ਅਤੇ 'ਹਰਾਮਖੋਰ' (ਧਾੜਵੀ ਆਦਿ ਲੁਟੇਰੇ) ਦਿਨ ਚੜ੍ਹਨ ਨਾਲ ਕਿਧਰੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਸਦੇ।
Thieves, adulterers and corrupt ones are not seen around after day break.
ਜਿਨਕੇਰਿਦੈਗਿਆਨਹੋਇਲਖਅਗਿਆਨੀਸੁਧਕਰਾਹੀ।
Those, who have knowledge in their heart improve the intellect of lacs of ignorants.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਕੈਦਰਸਨੈਕਲਿਕਲੇਸਿਸਭਬਿਨਸਬਿਨਾਹੀ।
The glimpse of the holy congregation decimates all the tensions suffered in the kaliyug, the dark age.

ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਪੁਰੋਂ ਅਸੀਂ ਵਾਰਨੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਾਂ (ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਦਇਆ ਨਾਲ ਘੋਰ ਪਾਪ ਅਰ ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ ਵਿਖਯ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਤਿੱਤਰ ਬਿੱਤਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਯਥਾ:- “ਨੀਕੀ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਾਨੀ॥ ਰਹਾਉ॥ ਪਹਰ ਮੂਰਤ ਪਲ ਗਾਵਤ ਗਾਵਤ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਵਖਾਨੀ”)॥
I am sacrifice unto the holy congregation.
ਪਉੜੀ੬
ਰਾਤਿਹਨ੍ਹੇਰੀਚਮਕਦੇਲਖਕਰੋੜੀਅੰਬਰਿਤਾਰੇ।
ਅਕਾਸ਼ ਵਿਖੇ ਕਾਲੀ ਬੋਲੀ ਰਾਤ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਕਰੋੜਾਂ ਤਾਰੇ ਚਮਕਦੇ ਹਨ।
The lacs of stars shine in the dark night but with the moon rise they become dim.
ਚੜ੍ਹਿਐਚੰਦਮਲੀਣਹੋਣਿਕੋਲੁਕੈਕੋਬੁਕੈਬਬਾਰੇ।
ਚੰਦ ਦੇ ਚੜ੍ਹਨ ਨਾਲ ਮੰਦ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਕੋਈ ('ਬੁਕੇ ਬਬਾਰੇ') ਬੁੜ ਬੁੜ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਬੋਲਦਾ ਹੈ (ਰਤਾ ਰਤਾ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਮਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ)।
Some of them go in hiding while some continue to twinkle.
ਸੂਰਜਜੋਤਿਉਦੋਤਿਕਰਿਤਾਰੇਚੰਦਨਰੈਣਿਅੰਧਾਰੇ।
(ਜਦ) ਸੂਰਜ ਆਪਣੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਦਾ ਉਜਾਲਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਤਾਰੇ, ਚੰਦ੍ਰਮਾਂ, ਅਰ ਹਨ੍ਹੇਰੀ ਰਾਤ ਤਿੰਨੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਸਦੇ, (ਭਾਵ ਪੂਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਅੱਗੇ ਉਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ, ਅਵਿੱਦ੍ਯਾ ਦੇ ਝੂਠੇ ਭੇਖ ਮਾਤ੍ਰ ਹਨ। ਅੱਗੇ ਇਸੇ ਦਾ ਹੋਰ ਅਨੁਵਾਦ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ)।
With the sun rise, the stars, the moon and the dark night, all vanish.
ਦੇਵੀਦੇਵਨਸੇਵਕਾਂਤੰਤਨਮੰਤਨਫੁਰਨਿਵਿਚਾਰੇ।
ਦੇਵੀਆਂ, ਦੇਵਤੇ, ਸ਼ਿਵੋਪਾਸ਼ਕ ਅਰ ਤੰਤ੍ਰ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਬੀ ਵਿਚਾਰੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਫੁਰਦੇ (ਗੁਰੂ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਮਾਤ ਪੈ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ)।
Before the servants, accomplished through the word of the true Guru, four vamas and four ashrams (astclhätu), the Vedas, Katebas are negligible
ਵੇਦਕਤੇਬਨਅਸਟਧਾਤੁਪੂਰੇਸਤਿਗੁਰੁਸਬਦਸਵਾਰੇ।
ਵੇਦ, ਕਤੇਬਾਂ ਅਰ 'ਅੱਠ ਧਾਤਾਂ' (ਚਾਰ ਵਰਣ ਚਾਰ ਆਸ਼ਰਮ), ਪੂਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ (ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ) ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਸੰਵਰਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ, (ਭਾਵ ਫਲੀ ਭੂਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੇ)।
And the idea about gods, goddesses, their servants, tantra, mantra etc. does not even occur in the mind.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਪੰਥਸੁਹਾਵੜਾਧੰਨਗੁਰੂਧੰਨੁਗੁਰੂਪਿਆਰੇ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਪੰਥ ਸੁਭਾਇਮਾਨ ਹੈ। (ਇਸ ਲਈ) ਧੰਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਹਨ ਅਰ ਧੰਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਯਾਰੇ ਹਨ।
The way of gurmukhs is delightful. Blest is the Guru and also blessed are his beloved ones.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਪਰਗਟੁਸੰਸਾਰੇ।੬।
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਖੇ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਹੈ, (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਸਭ ਦਾ ਉਧਾਰ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ।
The glory of the holy congregation is manifest in the whole world.
ਪਉੜੀ੭
ਚਾਰਿਵਰਨਿਚਾਰਿਮਜਹਬਾਂਛਿਅਦਰਸਨਵਰਤਨਿਵਰਤਾਰੇ।
ਚਾਰੇ (ਹਿੰਦੂ) ਵਰਣ, ਚਾਰੇ (ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨੀ) ਮਜ਼ਹਬ, ਛੀ ਦਰਸ਼ਨਾਂ ਦੇ (ਜਿੰਨੇ ਵਰਤਾਰੇ ਵਰਤਦੇ ਹਨ।
All the four vamas, four sects (of Muslims), six philosophies and their conducts,
ਦਸਅਵਤਾਰਹਜਾਰਨਾਵਥਾਨਮੁਕਾਮਸਭੇਵਣਜਾਰੇ।
ਦਸ ਅਵਤਾਰ (ਰਾਮ ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾਦਿਕ) ਹਜ਼ਾਰਾਂ ਨਾਵ ਅਰ ਮੁਕਾਮੀ ਥਾਨਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ (ਲੋਮਸਾਦਿਕ ਰਿਖੀ ਚਿਰੰਜੀਵੀ ਸਭ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਹੀ) ਵਣਜਾਰੇ (ਖਰੀਦਾਰ, ਗਾਹਕ) ਹਨ, (ਅਥਵਾ ਚੰਦ ਰੋਜ਼ੀ ਪਰਾਹੁਣੇ ਹਨ)।
Ten incarnations, thousands of names of the Lord and all holy seats are His travelling traders.
ਇਕਤੁਹਟਹੁਂਵਣਜਲੈਦੇਸਦਿਸੰਤਰਿਕਰਨਿਪਸਾਰੇ।
ਇਕ ਹੱਟੋਂ ਹੀ ਸੌਦਾ ਲੈਕੇ ਦੇਸ ਦੇਸਾਂਤਰਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ 'ਪਸਾਰੇ' (ਆਪੋ ਆਪਣਾ ਫੈਲਾਉ) ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਕੋਣ ਹੈ?)
Having taken commodities from the store of that supreme reality, they spread them far and wide in the country and beyond.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁਪੂਰਾਸਾਹੁਹੈਬੇਪਰਵਾਹੁਅਥਾਹੁਭੰਡਾਰੇ।
(ਸ਼ੰਕਾ ਦਾ ਉੱਤਰ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ:) ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ (ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ) ਪੂਰਾ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਹੈ, ਬੇਪਰਵਾਹ, ਨਿਰਲੋਭ ਹੈ, ਅਰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਭੰਡਾਰੇ (ਨਾਮ ਦੇ) ਅਥਾਹ (ਅਨਗਿਣਤ) ਭਰੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ।
That carefree true Guru (Lord) is their perfect banker and His warehouses are unfathomable (and never ending).
ਲੈਲੈਮੁਕਰਿਪਾਨਿਸਭਸਤਿਗੁਰੁਦੇਇਨਦੇਂਦਾਹਾਰੇ।
ਗਾਹਕ ਤਾਂ ਲੈ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਮੁੱਕਰ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਭਾਵ ਮਰ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਜਾਂ ਇਕਰਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ, ਪਰੰਤੂ) ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇਈ ਹੀ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਾਰਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ।
All take from Him and disavow but He, the true Guru, never gets tired bestowing gifts.
ਇਕੁਕਵਾਉਪਸਾਉਕਰਿਓਅੰਕਾਰਿਅਕਾਰਸਵਾਰੇ।
ਇਕ ਵਾਕ ਥੋਂ ਹੀ ਓਅੰਕਾਰ ਨੇ ਪਸਾਰਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ 'ਅਕਾਰ' (ਆਪਣਾ ਸਰੂਪ) ਧਾਰਣ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।
That Oankar Lord, extending His one vibrational sound, creates one and all.
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮਸਤਿਗੁਰਬਲਿਹਾਰੇ।੭।
(ਓਹੀ) ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਰੂਪ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ (ਨਾਨਕ) ਹੈ, (ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਪੁਰੋਂ) ਬਲਿਹਾਰ (ਜਾਂਦਾ) ਹਾਂ।
I am sacrifice unto this trancendental Brahm in the form of true Guru.
ਪਉੜੀ੮
ਪੀਰਪੈਕੰਬਰਔਲੀਏਗੌਸਕੁਤਬਉਲਮਾਉਘਨੇਰੇ।
ਪੀਰ ਪੈਕੰਬਰ ਔਲੀਆ, ਗ਼ੌਸ, ਕੁਤਬ, ਆਲਮ ਲੋਕ (ਵਿਦਵਾਨ) ਘਣੇ (ਹੋ ਗੁਜ਼ਰੇ) ਹਨ।
Many are the pirs, prophets, auliyas, gauris, qutubs and ulemas (all spiritual designations among Muslims).
ਸੇਖਮਸਾਇਕਸਾਦਕਾਸੁਹਦੇਔਰਸਹੀਦਬਹੁਤੇਰੇ।
ਸ਼ੇਖ ਮਸ਼ਾਇਖ, ਸਿਦਕੀ ਲੋਕ, ('ਸ਼ੁਹਦੇ') ਗਰੀਬ ('ਸ਼ਹੀਦ') ਸੂਰਬੀਰ ਬਾਹਲੇ।
Many shaikhs, sadiks(contented ones), and martyrs are there. Many are Qazis mullahs, maulavis (all Muslim religious and judicial designations).
ਕਾਜੀਮੁਲਾਂਮਉਲਵੀਮੁਫਤੀਦਾਨਸਵੰਦਬੰਦੇਰੇ।
ਕਾਜ਼ੀ, ਮੁਲਾਂ, ਮੌਲਵੀ, ਮੁਫਤੀ, ਅਕਲਈਏ (ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ਰ ਦੇ) ਬੰਦੇ।
(Similarly among the Hindus) Rsis, munis, Jain Digambars (Jain naked ascetics) and many miracle-makers knowing black magic are also known in this world.
ਰਿਖੀਮੁਨੀਦਿਗੰਬਰਾਂਕਾਲਖਕਰਾਮਾਤਅਗਲੇਰੇ।
ਰਿਖੀ ਮੁਨੀ, ਨਾਂਗੇ ਕਰਾਮਾਤ ਦੀ ਕਾਲਖ ਵਾਲੇ ਬਾਹਲੇ।
Innumerable are the practising, siddhs (yogis) who publicise themselves as great persons.
ਸਾਧਿਕਸਿਧਿਅਗਣਤਹੈਨਿਆਪਜਣਾਇਨਿਵਡੇਵਡੇਰੇ।
ਸਾਧਕ, ਸਿੱਧ ਕਈ ਹਨ, ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪ ਜਣਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ - ਵਡਿਆਂ ਥੋਂ ਵਡੇ ਹੋਕੇ। (ਛੀਵੀਂ ਤੇ ਸਤਵੀਂ ਤੁਕ ਵਿਖੇ ਸਭ ਦਾ ਨਿਖੇਧ ਦੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ)।
None gets liberated without the true Guru without whom their ego goes on increasing further,
ਬਿਨੁਗੁਰਕੋਇਨਸਿਝਈਹਉਮੈਂਵਧਦੀਜਾਇਵਧੇਰੇ।
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਬਾਝ ਕੋਈ ਮੁਕਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ (ਸਗੋਂ) ਹੰਤਾ ਤੇ ਮਮਤਾ ਬਾਹਲੀ ਵਧਦੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ। (ਕਿਉਂ)
Without holy congregation, the sense of ego stares at the jtv menacingly,
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਬਿਨੁਹਉਮੈਹੇਰੇ।੮।
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਦੇ ਬਾਝ ਹਉਮੈਂ ਤਾੜਦੀ ਹੈ (ਹੰਤਾ ਮਮਤਾ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਡਾਇਣਾਂ ਵਾਂਗੂੰ ਹ੍ਰਿਦਯ ਦੀ ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਖਾ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਸ਼ਬਾਝ ਗਿਆਨ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ, ਗਿਆਨ ਬਾਝ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ, ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਅਭਾਵ ਗੁਰੂ ਬਿਨ ਨਹੀਂ, ਤਾਂਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਹੀ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਦਾ ਕਾਰਣ ਹਨ)।

ਪਉੜੀ੯
ਕਿਸੈਰਿਧਿਸਿਧਿਕਿਸੈਦੇਇਕਿਸੈਨਿਧਿਕਰਾਮਾਤਸੁਕਿਸੈ।
ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਰਿਧੀਆਂ, ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਧੀਆਂ, ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਨਿਧੀਆਂ, ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਕਰਾਮਾਤਾਂ।
Upon some He bestows miraculous powers (riddhis, siddhis) and to some He gives wealth and to some other miracles.
ਕਿਸੈਰਸਾਇਣਕਿਸੈਮਣਿਕਿਸੈਪਾਰਸਕਿਸੈਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਰਿਸੈ।
ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਰਸਾਇਣ, ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਮਣੀ, ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਰਸ, ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਰਿਸੇ ਹੈ।
To some He gives life-elixir, to some the fabulous gem, to some the philosopher's stone and due to His grace in the inner self of some trickles the nectar;
ਤੰਤੁਮੰਤੁਪਾਖੰਡਕਿਸੈਵੀਰਾਰਾਧਦਿਸੰਤਰੁਦਿਸੈ।
ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਤੰਤ ਮੰਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਾਖੰਡ, ਕੋਈ ਵੀਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਨ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ (ਤਤਪਰ) ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ ('ਦਿਸੰਤਰ ਦਿਸੈ' ਅਰਥਾਤ) ਦੇਸ਼ ਦੇਸ਼ਾਤ੍ਰਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਹੀ (ਭਟਕ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ)।
Some in His will practise tantra mantra hypocrisies and worship of Vas (S aivite worship) and some others He causes to wander in far off places.
ਕਿਸੈਕਾਮਧੇਨੁਪਾਰਿਜਾਤਕਿਸੈਲਖਮੀਦੇਵੈਜਿਸੈ।
ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਮਧੇਨੁ, ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਕਲਪ ਬ੍ਰਿੱਛ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਲਖਮੀ ਹੀ ਦੇ ਰੱਖੀ ਹੈ। (ਚੱਕ੍ਰਵਰਤੀ ਰਾਜੇ ਬਣੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ)।
Upon some He bestows the wishfulfilling cow, upon some the wishfulfilling tree and on whomsoever He likes He bestows Laksami (goddess of wealth).
ਨਾਟਕਚੇਟਕਆਸਣਾਨਿਵਲੀਕਰਮਭਰਮਭਉਮਿਸੈ।
ਕੋਈ ਖਿਲਾਰੀ ਹੋਕੇ ਖੇਲਾਂ ਕਰਦੇ (ਕੋਈ 'ਚੇਟਕ') ਚਟਕ ਲਾਕੇ ਵਸ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਕਈ ਆਸਣਾਂ, ਕਈ ਨਿਵਲੀ ਕਰਮ, ਨੇਤੀ ਧੋਤੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਭਰਮ ਅਤੇ ਭਉ ਵਿਖੇ ('ਮਿਸੇ') ਮਿਲੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ (ਜਾਂ ਬਹਾਨੇ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ)।
To delude many, He gives asans (postures), niolf kannas --the yogic exercises, and miracles and dramatic activities to many a person.
ਜੋਗੀਭੋਗੀਜੋਗੁਭੋਗੁਸਦਾਸੰਜੋਗੁਵਿਜੋਗੁਸਲਿਸੈ।
ਕਈ ('ਜੋਗੀ') ਜੋਗ ਦੇ ('ਭੋਗੀ') ਭੋਗਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਜੋਗ ਵਿਜੋਗ ਵਿਚ (ਸਲਿੱਸੈ) ਵਿਸ਼ੇਖ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਮਿਲਤ ਹਨ) ਜੰਮਦੇ ਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ। (ਏਹ ਸਭ ਹੰਤਾ ਮਮਤਾ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਜ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਪਿਛੇ ਕਹੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰੰਤੂ)।
He gives asceticism to yogis and luxuries to bhogis (enjoyers of the wordly pleasures).
ਓਅੰਕਾਰਿਅਕਾਰਸੁਤਿਸੈ।੯।
ਉਸ (ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ) ਦਾ ਅਕਾਰ ਓਅੰਕਾਰ ਹੈ।
Meeting and parting i.e. taking birth and dying always cojointly exist. These all are (various) forms of Oankar.
ਪਉੜੀ੧੦
ਖਾਣੀਬਾਣੀਜੁਗਿਚਾਰਿਲਖਚਉਰਾਸੀਹਜੂਨਿਉਪਾਈ।
ਚਾਰ ਖਾਣੀਆਂ, ਚਾਰ ਬਾਣੀਆਂ, ਚਾਰ ਜੁਗ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਚੌਰਾਸੀ ਲਖ ਜੂਨੀ (ਈਸ਼੍ਵਰ ਨੇ) ਉਤਪਤ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ।
Four ages, four mines of life, four speeches (para, pasyanti, madhyama and vaikhari) and creatures living in lacs of species
ਉਤਮਜੂਨਿਵਖਾਣੀਐਮਾਣਸਿਜੂਨਿਦੁਲੰਭਦਿਖਾਈ।
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਯੋਨੀ ਉੱਤਮ ਯੋਨੀ ਕਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ, (ਇਸੇ ਕਰਕੇ) ਦੂਰਲੱਭ ਦੱਸੀ ਹੈ, ('ਮਾਨਸ ਜਨਮੁ ਦੁਲੰਭੁ ਹੈ ਹੋਇ ਨ ਬਾਰੈਬਾਰ'। ਕਿਉਂ ਦੁਰਲੱਭ ਹੈ?)
He has created. Human species known to be a rare one is the best of ail the species.
ਸਭਿਜੂਨੀਕਰਿਵਸਿਤਿਸੁਮਾਣਸਿਨੋਦਿਤੀਵਡਿਆਈ।
ਕਿ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਯੋਨੀਆਂ ਇਸੇ ਦੇ ਤਾਬੇ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ ਗਈਆਂ ਹਨ, ਇਸੇ ਮਾਣਸ ਜੂਨੀ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ (ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਯੋਨੀਆਂ ਦੀ) ਸ਼ਿਰੋਮਣਤਾਈ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਗਈ ਹੈ।
Making all the species subordinate to human species, the Lord has given it superiority.
ਬਹੁਤੇਮਾਣਸਜਗਤਵਿਚਿਪਰਾਧੀਨਕਿਛੁਸਮਝਿਨਪਾਈ।
ਬਾਹਲੇ ਮਨੁਖ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਖੇ (ਇਕ ਦੂਜੇ ਦੇ) ਪਰਾਧੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਘਰ ਦੀ) ਕੁਝ ਸਮਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦੀ (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਓਹ ਸੁਤੰਤਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ, ਪਰੰਤੂ ਭੈੜੇ ਪਰਾਧੀਨ ਹਨ, ਅੱਗੇ ਹੋਰ ਦੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ)।
Most of the human beings in the world remain subordinated to each other and are unable to understand anything.

ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਓਹ ਲੋਕ ਪਰਾਧੀਨ ਗਿਣੇ ਗਏ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਭੈੜਿਆਂ (ਚੋਰੀ ਯਾਰੀ ਆਦਿ) ਕੰਮਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ (ਹੀਰਾ) ਜਨਮ ਗਵਾ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ। (ਚੌਰਾਸੀ ਲੱਖ ਦਾ ਫੇਰਾ ਕਿੱਕੁਰ ਮਿਟੇ?)
Among them, those are real slaves who have lost their lives in evil deeds.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਦੇਵੁਠਿਆਂਲਖਚਉਰਾਸੀਹਫੇਰਿਮਿਟਾਈ।
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਦੇ ('ਵੁਠਿਆਂ') ਵਰਖਾ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਚੌਰਾਸੀ ਲੱਖ ਦਾ ਦੌਰ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਖ ਸਦੀਵ ਉਠਕੇ ਅੰਮਿਤ ਵੇਲੇ 'ਸਰ' (ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਸਰ ਅਥਵਾ ਕੂਪਾਂ, ਤਲਾਵਾਂ ਪੁਰ) ਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

(ਦਸਾਂ ਨੌਹਾਂ ਦੀ) ਧਰਮ ਦੀ ਕਮਾਈ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਅਥਵਾ (ਕੜਾਹ ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ਾਦ, ਮੰਡੇ ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ਾਦ) ਲੈਕੇ (ਵਿਰਤ) ਰੋਜ਼ੀ ਕਮਾਕੇ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਆਕੇ ਵਰਤਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Then by righteous means he earns his livelihood and he distributes the hard-earned meal among the needy ones.

In this dark age, illumined by such feelings, the disciple becomes Guru and the Guru disciple.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖ (ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਚਲਾਏ ਹੋਏ) ਗਾਡੀ ਰਾਹ (ਪਧਰੇ ਰਾਹ) ਪੁਰ ਚਲਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਓਅੰਕਾਰਅਕਾਰੁਜਿਸਸਤਿਗੁਰੁਪੁਰਖੁਸਿਰੰਦਾਸੋਈ।
ਓਅੰਕਾਰ ਹੀ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਆਕਾਰ ਹੈ (ਸੋਈ) ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪੁਰਖ ਰਚਨਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ।
The Oankar whose form is the true Guru, is the true creator of universe.
ਇਕੁਕਵਾਉਪਸਾਉਜਿਸਸਬਦਸੁਰਤਿਸਤਿਸੰਗਵਿਲੋਈ।
ਇਕ ਵਾਕ ਥੋਂ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਪਸਾਰਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਸਤਿਸੰਗ ਵਿਖੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਸੂਰਤ ਦਾ ਰਿੜਕਨਾ ਕੀਤਾ।
From His one word the whole creation spreads, and in the holy congregation, the consciousness is merged in His word.
ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾਬਿਸਨੁਮਹੇਸੁਮਿਲਿਦਸਅਵਤਾਰਵੀਚਾਰਨਹੋਈ।
ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾਂ, ਬਿਸ਼ਨੂੰ, ਮਹੇਸ਼, ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਕੇ ਦਸ ਅਵਤਾਰਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਬੀ (ਉਸ ਓਅੰਕਾਰ ਦਾ) ਵੀਚਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਸਕਿਆ।

ਭੇਦਨਬੇਦਕਤੇਬਨੋਹਿੰਦੂਮੁਸਲਮਾਣਜਣੋਈ।
ਨਾ ਬੇਦਾਂ ਨਾ ਕਤੇਬਾਂ, ਨਾ ਹਿੰਦੂ, ਨਾ ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨ ਭੇਦ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ।

ਉਤਮਜਨਮੁਸਕਾਰਥਾਚਰਣਿਸਰਣਿਸਤਿਗੁਰੁਵਿਰਲੋਈ।
(ਮਾਨੁਖ) ਜਨਮ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਹੈ (ਪਰ) ਸਫਲ (ਉਸੇ ਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਕੋਈ) ਵਿਰਲਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਣ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Rare is a person who comes to the shelter of the feet of the true Guru and makes his life fruitful.
ਗੁਰੁਸਿਖਸੁਣਿਗੁਰੁਸਿਖਹੋਇਮੁਰਦਾਹੋਇਮੁਰੀਦਸੁਕੋਈ।
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਖਿਆ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਣਕੇ ਅਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸਿੱਖ ਹੋਕੇ ਜੋ ਮੁਰੀਦ ਮੁਰਦਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਵੇ, ਸੋ ਕੋਈ ਹੀ ਹੈ, ('ਕੋਟਿ ਮਧੇ ਕੋ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਹੋਰਿ ਸਗਲੇ ਬਿਉਹਾਰੀ')
Rare is a person who listening to the teachings of Guru becomes disciple, remains dead to passions, and prepares himself to be a true servant.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁਗੋਰਿਸਤਾਨਸਮੋਈ।੧੨।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ (ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਗੌਰ ਜਾਣਕੇ ਸਮਾਏ ਰਹੇ (ਭਾਵ- ਅਨਿੰਨ ਭਗਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਚਰਣ ਵਿਖੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਘਰ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਤਦਾਕਾਰ ਹੋ ਰਹੇ।
Any rare one absorbs himself in graveyard (i.e. permanent haven) of the true Guru.

ਜਪਤਪਹਠਿਨਿਗ੍ਰਹਘਣੇਚਉਦਹਵਿਦਿਆਵੇਦਵਖਾਣੇ।
ਕਈ ਜਪ, ਕਈ ਤਪ ਹੀ ਹਠ ਧਾਰ ਕੇ ਕਰਦੇ, ਕਈ ਚੌਦਾਂ ਵਿਦਯਾ ਸਿੱਖਦੇ। ਕਈ ਵੈਦਾਂ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਵ੍ਯਾਖ੍ਯਾਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
Recitations, austerities, persistences, many renunciaitions explanations on Vedas and all the fourteen skills are known in the world.
ਸੇਖਨਾਗਸਨਕਾਦਿਕਾਂਲੋਮਸਅੰਤੁਅਨੰਤਨਜਾਣੇ।
ਸ਼ੇਖ ਨਾਗ ਸਨਕਾਦਿਕ, ਲੋਮਸ ਰਿਖੀ, ਅਨੰਤ ਦੇ ਅੰਤ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦੇ।
Even Sesanag, Sanaks, and rishi Lomas do not know the mystery of that infinite.
ਜਤੀਸਤੀਸੰਤੋਖੀਆਂਸਿਧਨਾਥਹੋਇਨਾਥਭੁਲਾਣੇ।
ਜਤੀ, ਸਤੀ, ਸੰਤੋਖੀ ਸਿੱਧ (ਨੌਂ) ਨਾਥ ਸਾਰੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ('ਨਾਥ') ਸੁਆਮੀ ਮੰਨਦੇ (ਹੰਕਾਰ ਵਿਖੇ) ਭੁੱਲ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
Celebates, follower of truth, contented ones, siddhs, naths(yogis) all becoming masterless are wandering in delusions.

ਪੀਰ ਪੈਕੰਬਰ, ਔਲੀਏ, ਮਹੰਤ ਲੋਕ ਹਜ਼ਾਰਾਂ ਹੀ ਹੈਰਾਣ ਹੋ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
Searching Him all the pars, prophets, auliyas and thousands of old men are wonderstruck (because they could not know Him).
ਜੋਗਭੋਗਲਖਰੋਗਸੋਗਲਖਸੰਜੋਗਵਿਜੋਗਵਿਡਾਣੇ।
ਲੱਖਾਂ ਜੋਗ ਭੋਗ ਵਿਚ, ਲਖਾਂ ਰੋਗ ਸੋਗ ਵਿਚ, ਲੱਖਾ ਸੰਜੋਗ ਵਿਜੋਗ ਵਿਖੇ ਹੀ ('ਵਿਡਾਣ') ਹੱਕੇ ਬੱਕੇ ਹੋ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।

ਦਸਨਾਉਂਸੰਨਿਆਸੀਆਂਭੰਭਲਭੂਸੇਖਾਇਭੁਲਾਣੇ।
ਦਸ ਪੰਥ ਸੰਨਿਆਸੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਡਕੋਡੋਲੇ ਖਾ ਕੇ ਭੁੱਲੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ। (ਹੇਠਲੀਆਂ ਦੋ ਤੁਕਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਗੁਰ ਸਿਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਖਤਾ ਦੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ)।

ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਿੱਖ (ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਥ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿਕੇ ਹੀ) ਜੋਗੀ ਹਨ, ਅਰ (ਜਾਗਦੇ) ਸਾਵਧਾਨ ਹਨ, ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਬਨਵਾਸਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਲੁਕੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਟ।
Disciple yogis of the Guru always remain alert whereas others have hidden themselves in the jungles, i.e. they are unconcerned with the problems of the world.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਮਿਲਿਨਾਮੁਵਖਾਣੇ।੧੩।
ਜੋ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਖੇ ਮਿਲਦੇ ਹਨ (ਤੇ) ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਵਯਾਖਯਾਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਇਸੇ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੁਕਤ ਹਨ, ਇਤਰ ਜੀਵ ਬਨਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਹੀ ਭਟਕਦੇ ਚੌਰਾਸੀ ਭੋਗਦੇ ਹਨ)।

ਚੰਦਸੂਰਜਲਖਚਾਨਣੇਤਿਲਨਪੁਜਨਿਸਤਿਗੁਰੁਮਤੀ।
ਲੱਖਾਂ ਹੀ ਚੰਨ ਸੂਰਜ ਦੇ ਪਰਕਾਸ਼ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਯਾ ਦੇ ਇਕ ਤਿਲ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਸਕਦੇ, (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਉਹ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਾਨਣਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਪਰਕਾਸ਼ ਚੇਤਨ ਚਾਨਣਾ ਹੈ, ਏਹ ਚਾਨਣਾ ਜੜ੍ਹ ਹੈ)।

ਲੱਖਾਂ ਪਤਾਲ, ਲੱਖਾਂ ਅਕਾਸ਼ਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ (ਗੁਰੂ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੀ) ਕਿਰਣ ਰਤੀ ਬੀ ਉੱਚੀ ਨੀਵੀਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦੀ (ਚੰਦ ਸੂਰਜ ਦੀਆਂ ਕਿਰਣਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਊਚ ਨੀਚਤਾ ਇਹ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਨੇੜੇ ਪੈਂਦੀ, ਦੂਰ ਘੱਟ ਪਹੁੰਚਦੀ ਹੈ)
Millions of nether worlds and millions of skies exist but there is not the slightest maladjustment in their alignment.

ਆਦਿ ਵਿਖੇ ਉਤਪੱਤੀ, ਅੰਤ ਵਿਖੇ ਪਰਲਉ ਅਰ ਮੱਧ ਕਾਲ ਵਿਖੇ ਜੋ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਉਤਪਤੀਆਂ ਹੋ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਹਨ।
Millions of creations and millions of dissolutions continuously alternate without the beginning, middle and end of the process.
ਧੀਰਜਧਰਮਨਪੁਜਨੀਲਖਲਖਪਰਬਤਲਖਧਰਤੀ।
ਧੀਰਜ, ਧਰਮ ਲਖਾਂ ਪਰਬਤ, ਲੱਖਾਂ ਧਰਤੀਆਂ (ਗੁਰੂ ਧੀਰਜ ਨੂੰ) ਨਹੀਂ ਪੁਜ ਸਕਦੇ।
Lacs of forbearing earths and mountains cannot equate the teachings of the true Guru in perseverance and righteousness.
ਲਖਗਿਆਨਧਿਆਨਲਖਤੁਲਿਨਤੁਲੀਐਤਿਲਗੁਰਮਤੀ।
ਲਖਾਂ ਗਿਆਨ, ਲਖਾਂ ਧਿਆਨ, ਗੁਰੂ ਸਿੱਖਯਾ ਦੇ ਇਕ ਤਿਲ ਦੇ ਸਮਾਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ, (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਏਹ ਹਉਮੈਂ ਅਤੀਤ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਯਥਾਰਥ ਤੇ ਲੈ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ)।
Millions types of knowledges and meditations are not equal to even a particle of the knowledge of the wisdom of Guru (gunnat).

(ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੇ 'ਕਵਾਉ') ਸਰੀਰ (ਯਾ ਵਾਕ) ਵਿਖੇ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਦਰੀਆਉ (ਸ਼ਕਤੀਆਂ) ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਰੀਆਵਾਂ ਸ਼ਕਤੀਆਂ ਥੋਂ) ਲਖਾਂ ਲਹਿਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਤਰੰਗ ਉਠਦੇ ਹਨ।
In the one word of the Lord lacs of rivers (of life) flow and lacs of waves come up in them.
ਇਕਸਲਹਰਿਤਰੰਗਵਿਚਿਲਖਲਖਲਖਦਰੀਆਉਵਹੰਦੇ।
ਇਕ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ) ਲਹਿਰ ਦੇ ਤਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਹੀ ਦਰੀਆਉ ਵਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਲਖਾਂ ਬ੍ਰਹਿਮੰਡ ਬਣਦੇ ਹਨ)।

ਇਕਸਇਕਸਦਰੀਆਉਵਿਚਿਲਖਅਵਤਾਰਅਕਾਰਫਿਰੰਦੇ।
ਫੇਰ ਇਕ ਇਕ ਦਰੀਆਉ (ਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡ) ਵਿਖੇ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਅਵਤਾਰ ਆਕਾਰ ਧਾਰਕੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
In each river, in the form of incarnations, lacs of jivs assuming many forms are roaming about.
ਮਛਕਛਮਰਿਜੀਵੜੇਅਗਮਅਥਾਹਨਹਾਥਿਲਹੰਦੇ।
ਮੱਛ, ਕਛ ਆਦਿਕ ('ਮਰਜੀਵੜੇ') ਅਵਤਾਰ ਓਹ ਬੀ ਅਗਮ ਅਥਾਹ (ਮਨ ਬਾਣੀਓਂ ਪਰੇ) (ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦਾ) ਥਾਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੈ ਸਕਦੇ।
Incarnations in the form of fish and tortoise dive into it but they cannot fathom its depth, i.e. they cannot know the limits of that supreme reality.
ਪਰਵਦਗਾਰਅਪਾਰੁਹੈਪਾਰਾਵਾਰਨਲਹਨਿਤਰੰਦੇ।
ਪਰਵਰਦਗਾਰ (ਸਭ ਦਾ ਪਾਲਕ) ਅਪਾਰ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ('ਲਹਿਰ') ਮਾਯਾ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਤਾਰੂ ਲੋਕ ਪਾਰਾਵਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦੇ (ਜਿਸ ਵਿਖੇ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਦਰੀਆਉ ਹਨ, ਅੰਤ ਕੌਣ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।)।
That sustainer Lord is beyond all limits; none can know the bounds of his waves.
ਅਜਰਾਵਰੁਸਤਿਗੁਰੁਪੁਰਖੁਗੁਰਮਤਿਗੁਰੁਸਿਖਅਜਰੁਜਰੰਦੇ।
ਅਜਰ ਅਤੇ ਅਵਰ (ਸ੍ਰੇਸਟ) ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ (ਗੁਰ ਨਾਨਕ) ਪੁਰਖ ਦੀ ਸਿਖਿਆ ਲੈਕੇ ਗੁਰ ਸਿਖ ਅਜਰ (ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ ਵਿਖਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਅਥਵਾ ਅੰਹਕਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਅਥਵਾ ਨਾ ਜਰੇ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਆਤਮ ਦਾਤ) ਨੂੰ ਜਰਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਭਾਵ ਆਤਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਲੱਖਤਾ ਪਾਕੇ ਬੀ ਜਣਾਉਂਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ।
That true Guru is the excellent purus and the disciples of the Guru bear the unbearable, through the wisdom of the Guru (gurmat).
ਕਰਨਿਬੰਦਗੀਵਿਰਲੇਬੰਦੇ।੧੫।
(ਅਜਿਹੇ) ਬੰਦਗੀ (ਭਗਤੀ) ਕਰਣ ਹਾਰੇ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਹਨ (“ਤੇਰਾ ਜਨ ਏਕੁ ਆਧ ਕੋਈ”)॥
Rare are the people who undertake such devotional worship.
ਪਉੜੀ੧੬
ਇਕਕਵਾਉਅਮਾਉਜਿਸੁਕੇਵਡੁਵਡੇਦੀਵਡਿਆਈ।
ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਇਕ ਵਾਕ ਹੀ ਮਿਣਿਆਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ, ਉਸ ਵੱਡੇ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਕੇਡੀ ਕੁ ਵੱਡੀ (ਆਖੀਏ)।
What could be said about the greatness of that great Lord whose one word is beyond all measures.
ਓਅੰਕਾਰਅਕਾਰਜਿਸੁਤਿਸਦਾਅੰਤੁਨਕੋਊਪਾਈ।
ਓਅੰਕਾਰ' ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਂਵਦਾ।
None can know His mystery whose base is only One Gallia. How could His long life be counted whose half a breath is unfathomable.
ਅਧਾਸਾਹੁਅਥਾਹੁਜਿਸੁਵਡੀਆਰਜਾਗਣਤਨਆਈ।
ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਅੱਧਾ ਸਾਹ ਅਥਾਹ ਹੈ। (“ਹਰਨ ਭਰਨ ਜਾਕਾ ਨੇਤ੍ਰ ਫੋਰੁ”॥) ਉਸ ਦੀ ਵੱਡੀ ਆਰਜਾ ਦੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਆ ਸਕਦੀ (ਅਰਥਾਤ ਕੂੜੀ ਆਰਜਾ ਵਾਲੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਕੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ)।
His creation cannot be evaluated; how can then that imperceptible one be beholden (understood).
ਕੁਦਰਤਿਕੀਮਨਜਾਣੀਐਕਾਦਰੁਅਲਖੁਨਲਖਿਆਜਾਈ।
(ਉਸ ਦੀ 'ਕੁਦਰਤ') ਰਚਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਕੀਮਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣੀਦੀ, ਕਾਦਰ (ਆਪ ਕਿੰਨਾ ਵਧੀਕ) ਅਲੱਖ ਹੈ ਲਖਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ।
His gifts such as days and nights are also invaluable and His other boons are also infinite.
ਦਾਤਿਨਕੀਮਨਰਾਤਿਦਿਹੁਬੇਸੁਮਾਰੁਦਾਤਾਰੁਖੁਦਾਈ।
ਦਿਨ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਰਾਤ ਦੀ ਦਾਤ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ, (ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ) ਮੁੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ (ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ, ਗੱਲ ਕੀ) ਉਸ ਦਾਤਾਰ ਦੀ ('ਖੁਦਾਈ') ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਬੇਸ਼ੁਮਾਰ ਹੈ, (“ਜਿਨਿ ਦਿਨੁ ਕਰਿਕੈ ਕੀਤੀ ਰਾਤਿ॥ ਖਸਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਹਿ ਤੇ ਕਮਜਾਤਿ”)॥
Indescribable is the position of the Lord, the master of the masterless,
ਅਬਿਗਤਿਗਤਿਅਨਾਥਨਾਥਅਕਥਕਥਾਨੇਤਿਨੇਤਿਅਲਾਈ।
ਉਸ ਦੀ ਆਬਿਗਤ ਗਤੀ ਹੈ, ਅਨਾਥਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਾਥ, ਕਥਾ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਅਕੱਥ, (ਸਾਰੇ) ਨੇਤਿ ਨੇਤਿ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ।
And His unnarratable story can only be concluded by saying neti neti (this is not, this not).
ਆਦਿਪੁਰਖੁਆਦੇਸੁਕਰਾਈ।੧੬।
ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖ ਨੂੰ ('ਆਦੇਸ਼') ਨਮਸਕਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Worthy of salutation is only that primeval Lord.
ਪਉੜੀ੧੭
ਸਿਰੁਕਲਵਤੁਲੈਲਖਵਾਰਹੋਮੇਕਟਿਕਟਿਤਿਲੁਤਿਲੁਦੇਹੀ।
ਸਿਰ ਪੁਰ ਕੁਲਵੱਤ੍ਰ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਲਖ ਵਾਰ ਲਵੇ ਤੇ ਦੇਹੀ ਨੂੰ ਰਤਾ ਰਤਾ ਕਟਾਕੇ ਹਵਨ ਕਰੇ।
If a saw is held one's head and the body is cut piece by piece to be put as burnt offerings;
ਗਲੈਹਿਮਾਚਲਲਖਵਾਰਿਕਰੈਉਰਧਤਪਜੁਗਤਿਸਨੇਹੀ।
ਹਿਮਾਲਾ ਪਹਾੜ ਵਿਖੇ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਲਖ ਵਾਰ ਗਲੇ, ਬਾਹਾਂ ਉੱਚੀਆਂ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਊਰਧ ਤਪ ਦੀ ਜੁਗਤ ਵਿਖੇ ('ਸਨੇਹੀ') ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਰਖੇ।
If lacs of times one gets decayed in snow or adopting proper techniques one undertakes penances with body upside down;
ਜਲਤਪੁਸਾਧੇਅਗਨਿਤਪੁਪੂਂਅਰਤਪੁਕਰਿਹੋਇਵਿਦੇਹੀ।
(ਸਰਦੀ ਵਿਖੇ) ਜਲ ਧਾਰਾ ਲਵੇ, (ਗਰਮੀ ਵਿਖੇ। ਪੰਜ ਧੂਣੀਆਂ) ਅਗਨ ਤਪੇ, ਵਿਦੇਹੀ (ਅਰਥਾਤ ਜਨਕ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਹੋਕੇ) ਅਰਧ ਤਪ ਕਰੇ (ਇਕ ਹੱਥ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦੇ ਕੁਚਾਂ ਪਰ ਦੁਜਾ ਅਗਨੀ ਵਿਚ ਪਾਵੇ)।
If one becomes bodyless through water penances, fire-penances, and internal fire-penances;
ਵਰਤਨੇਮਸੰਜਮਘਣੇਦੇਵੀਦੇਵਅਸਥਾਨਭਵੇਹੀ।
ਕਈ ਬਰਤ ਨੇਮਾਦਿ ਕਰੇ, ਕਈ ਦੇਵੀਆਂ ਅਰ ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਮੰਦਰਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਯਾਤਰਾ ਕਰੇ।
If one practises fasts, rules, disciplines and wanders about the places of gods and goddesses;
ਪੁੰਨਦਾਨਚੰਗਿਆਈਆਂਸਿਧਾਸਣਸਿੰਘਾਸਣਥੇਏਹੀ।
ਪੁੰਨ ਦਾਨ ਦੀਆਂ ਨੇਕੀਆਂ ਕਰੇ, ਸਿੱਧਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਆਸਣ ਬੀਰਾਸਣ ਕਰੇ, ('ਬੇਹੀ') ਲਿੰਗ ਵਿਖੇ ਛੇਕ ਕਰ ਕੜਾ ਮਾਰੇ (ਅਥਵਾ ਬੀਰਾਸਣ ਮਾਰ ਕਰ ਬੈਠੇ)
If one makes throne of virtuous charities, goodness and lotus postures and sits on it;
ਨਿਵਲੀਕਰਮਭੁਇਅੰਗਮਾਂਪੂਰਕਕੁੰਭਕਰੇਚਕਰੇਹੀ।
ਨਾਤੀ ਧੋਤੀ ਕਰੇ, ਭੁਯੰਗ ਨਾੜੀ ਦੁਵਾਗ ਪ੍ਰਾਣਾਯਾਮ ਕਰੇ, ਪੂਰਕ ਕੁੰਭਕ ਰੇਚਕਾਦਿ ਕਰਮ ਕਰੇ (ਸੱਤਵੀਂ ਤੁਕ ਵਿਖੇ ਨਿਚੋੜ ਦੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ)।
If one practises nioli karma, serpent posture, exhalation, inhalation and suspension of vital air (pranayam);
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸੁਖਫਲਸਰਨਿਸਭੇਹੀ।੧੭।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੁਖ ਫਲ ਦੇ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੁਜਦੇ।
All these together are not equal to the fruit of delight attained by the gurmukh.
ਪਉੜੀ੧੮
ਸਹਸਸਿਆਣੇਸੈਪੁਰਸਸਹਸਸਿਆਣਪਲਇਆਨਜਾਈ।
ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਸਿਆਣਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਉੱਦਮ ਅਰ ਹਜ਼ਾਰਾਂ ਸਿਆਣਪਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਲੀਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ।
Millions of wisemen through their skills cannot attain the (supreme) fruit of delight.
ਸਹਸਸੁਘੜਸੁਘੜਾਈਆਂਤੁਲੁਨਸਹਸਚਤੁਰਚਤੁਰਾਈ।
ਹਜ਼ਾਰਾਂ ('ਸੁਘੜ') ਕਾਰੀਗਰਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਕਾਰੀਗਰੀਆਂ ਅਰ ਹਜ਼ਾਰਾਂ ਚਾਤੁਰਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਚਤੁਰਾਈਆਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ।
Millions of skillful persons with their skills and thousands of clever persons with their cleverness cannot attain Him.
ਲਖਹਕੀਮਲਖਹਿਕਮਤੀਦੁਨੀਆਦਾਰਵਡੇਦੁਨਿਆਈ।
ਲੱਖਾਂ ਹਕੀਮ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਹਿਕਮਤਾਂ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਮਾਯਾਵੀ ਲੋਕ ਵਡੇ ਮਾਲਦਾਰ ਹਨ।
Lacs of physicians, lacs of ingenious persons and other worldly wise people;
ਲਖਸਾਹਪਤਿਸਾਹਲਖਲਖਵਜੀਰਨਮਸਲਤਕਾਈ।
ਲੱਖਾਂ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਲਖਾਂ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ, ਲੱਖਾਂ ਵਜ਼ੀਰਾਂ ਦੀ ('ਮਸਲਤ') ਸਲਾਹ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਚਲਦੀ।
Lacs of kings, emperors and of their minister in lacs are there but no suggestion of anybody is of any use.
ਜਤੀਸਤੀਸੰਤੋਖੀਆਂਸਿਧਨਾਥਮਿਲਿਹਾਥਨਪਾਈ।
ਜਤੀ ਸਤੀ ਆਦਿਕ ਸਿਧ ਨਾਥ ਮਿਲਕੇ ਹਥ ਪਾਉਣ ਤਾਂ ਪੈ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ।
Celebates, truthful and contented ones, siddhs, naths, none could lay his hand upon Him.
ਚਾਰਵਰਨਚਾਰਮਜਹਬਾਂਛਿਅਦਰਸਨਨਹਿਂਅਲਖੁਲਖਾਈ।
ਚਾਰੇ ਵਰਣ ਹਿੰਦੂਆਂ ਦੇ, ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨੀ ਚਾਰੇ ਮਜ਼ਹਬ, ਛੀ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ, ਅਲਖ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਖਦੇ।
None, including four varnas, four sects and six philosophies could behold that imperceptible Lord's fruit of delight.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸੁਖਫਲਵਡੀਵਡਿਆਈ।੧੮।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ, ਦੇ ਸੁਖ ਫਲ (ਸ੍ਵਰੂਪਾਨੰਦ ਦੀ) ਵੱਡੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਹੈ।
Great is the glory of the fruit of delight of the gurmukhs.
ਪਉੜੀ੧੯
ਪੀਰਮੁਰੀਦੀਗਾਖੜੀਪੀਰਾਂਪੀਰੁਗੁਰਾਂਗੁਰੁਜਾਣੈ।
(ਪੀਰ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਾਗਿਰਦੀ ਕਠਨ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਪੀਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਪੀਰ ਅਰ ਗੁਰੂਆਂ ਦਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਹੀ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
Discipleship of the Guru is a difficult task; any pir or Guru of the Gurus knows it.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁਦਾਉਪਦੇਸੁਲੈਵੀਹਇਕੀਹਉਲੰਘਿਸਿਞਾਣੈ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ (ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੀ) ਦਾ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਲੈਕੇ ਵੀਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਤੋਂ ਲੰਘਕੇ 'ਇਕੀਹ' (ਇਕ ਆਤਮਾਂ) ਦੀ (ਹੀ ਸਮਾਧੀ) ਨੂੰ ਸਿਾਣੈ (ਧੁਨੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਅੰਗਦ ਜੀ ਵਲ ਕੱਢਦੇ ਹਨ)
Accepting the teachings of the true Guru and going beyond the wordly illusions He identifies that Lord.
ਮੁਰਦਾਹੋਇਮੁਰੀਦਸੋਗੁਰੁਸਿਖਜਾਇਸਮਾਇਬਬਾਣੈ।
ਮੁਰਦਾ ਹੋਕੇ ਮੁਰੀਦ ਬਣ ਅਰ ਉਹ ਗੁਰ ਸਿਖ ਹੋਕੇ ਬਬਾਣ (ਅਰਥਾਤ ਬਾਬੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀ ਪੀਹੜੀ ਵਿਖੇ) ਸਮਾਣੇ (ਗੁਰੂ ਗੋਰ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸੇ)।
Only that Sikh of the Guru absorbs his self into Baba (Nanak) who has become dead to his carnal desires.
ਪੈਰੀਂਪੈਪਾਖਾਕਹੋਇਤਿਸੁਪਾਖਾਕਪਾਕੁਪਤੀਆਣੈ।
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ) ਪੈਰੀਂ ਪੈ ਚਰਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਕ ਹੋਕੇ ਡਿੱਗੇ (ਫਲ ਇਹ ਕਿ) ਤਿਸ (ਗੁਰੂ ਅੰਗਦ ਦੀ) ਚਰਣ ਧੂੜ ਤੋਂ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਲੋਕ ਪਤੀਜੇ (ਭਾਵ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਬੀ ਕਲਯਾਨ ਹੋਈ)।
Falling at the Guru's feet he becomes the dust of his feet; people consider such dust of the feet of a humble Sikh as sacred.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਪੰਥੁਅਗੰਮੁਹੈਮਰਿਮਰਿਜੀਵੈਜਾਇਪਛਾਣੈ।
(ਇਸ ਲਈ) ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਪੰਥ ਅਗੰਮ ਹੈ, ਇਥੇ ਮਰ ਮਰਕੇ (ਅਰਥਾਤ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਭਾਵ ਤੋਂ ਮਰ ਕੇ ਆਤਮ ਜੀਵਨ) ਜੀਵੇ ਫੇਰ ਜਗ੍ਹਾ ਨੂੰ ਪਛਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
Unapproachable is the way of gurmukhs; while being dead they remain alive (i.e. they make only their desires dead), and ultimately they identify the Lord.
ਗੁਰੁਉਪਦੇਸੁਅਵੇਸੁਕਰਿਕੀੜੀਭ੍ਰਿੰਗੀਵਾਂਗਵਿਡਾਣੈ।
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿਖੇ ਘਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਭਿ੍ਰੰਗੀ ਨਾਮੇ ਕੀੜੇ ਵਾਂਗੂ ਅਚਰਜ ਦੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਭਾਵ ਭਿ੍ਰੰਗੀ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਰੂਪ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ)।
Inspired by the teachings of the Guru and adopting the conduct of bhritigi insect (which transforms small ant into bhringt), he (the disciple) attains the grandeur and greatness of the Guru.
ਅਕਥਕਥਾਕਉਣਆਖਿਵਖਾਣੈ।੧੯।
ਅਕਥ ਕਥਾ ਹੈ ਕੋਣ ਕਹਿ ਸਕੇ? (ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਮੁਰੀਦੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਅਨੰਤ ਅਤੇ ਫਲ ਇਕ ਓਹੀ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ)।
Who, in fact, can describe this ineffable story?

ਚਾਰਿਵਰਨਿਮਿਲਿਸਾਧਸੰਗਿਚਾਰਚਵਕਾਸੋਲਹਿਜਾਣੈ।
ਚਾਰੇ ਵਰਣ (ਖੱਤ੍ਰੀ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣਾਦਿਕ) ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦੇ ਹੀ ਚਾਰ ਗੁਣਾ ਹੋਕੇ ੧੬ ਕਲਾ ਸਪੰਨ ਜਾਣੇ ਗਏ ਹਨ, (ਭਾਵ ਚੰਦ੍ਰਮਾਂ ਘਟਦਾ ਵਧਦਾ ਹੈ ਓਹ ਇਕ ਰਸ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਅਥਵਾ ੧੦ ਇੰਦ੍ਰੀਆਂ ੫ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ੧ ਮਨ ਜਿੱਤ ਲੀਤਾ ਹੈ)
After coming to holy congregation all the four varnas (castes) become four time more powerful i.e. they become perfect sixteen types of skills in them,
ਪੰਜਸਬਦਗੁਰਸਬਦਲਿਵਪੰਜੂਪੰਜੇਪੰਜੀਹਲਾਣੈ।
ਪੰਜ ਸ਼ਬਦ (ਦੀ ਥਾਂ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਖੇ ਜੋ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਓਹ ਪੰਜ ਗੁਣਾਂ (ਅਰਥਾਤ ਪੰਝੀ ਪਰਕਿਰਤਾਂ) ਵਾਲੇ ਸਰੀਰ (ਨੂੰ 'ਲਾਣੈ') ਜਿੱਤ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
Absorbing consciousness in five qualities of word (pares, pa(yantl, madhyama, vaikharf and matrika), the jilt tames all the five times five, 1.e. twenty-five proclivities of human nature.
ਛਿਅਦਰਸਣਇਕਦਰਸਣੋਛਿਅਛਕੇਛਤੀਹਸਮਾਣੈ।
ਛੀ ਦਰਸ਼ਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਜੋ ਇਕ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਿਖ) ਹੋਏ, ਛੀ ਗੁਣਾਂ (ਅਰਥਾਤ) ਛੱਤੀ ਆਸਣ ਅਥਵਾ ਛੱਤੀ ਪਖੰਡ (ਜਿੱਤ ਲਏ ਹਨ।

ਨਉਂ ਨਾਥਾਂ ਦਾ ਇਕੋ ਨਾਥ (ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ) ਨੂੰ ਮੰਨਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਉਹ) ਨਉਂ ਨਾੲਂੇ ਇਕਾਸੀ (ਖੰਡਾਂ ਦਾ) ਨਾਥ (ਬਣਦਾ) ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ ਨਵਾਂ ਖੰਡਾਂ ਦੀ ਕੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਹੈ ਇਕਾਸੀ (ਖੰਡਾਂ ਦਾ ਸ੍ਵਾਮੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਬਾਜ਼ੇ ਗਯਾਨੀ 'ਇਕ' ਦੀ 'ਆਸਾ' ਅਰਥ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰੰਤੂ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਗਿਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ)।
By bowing before one master of the nine naths (masters), the knowledge about the eighty-one divisions (of cosmos) is attained.
ਦਸਦੁਆਰਨਿਰਧਾਰਕਰਿਦਾਹੋਦਾਹੇਸਉਪਰਵਾਣੈ।
ਦਸ ਇੰਦ੍ਰੀਆਂ (ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਨਿਰਧਾਰ) ਵੱਸ ਕਰ ਲੀਤੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਓਹ ਪੂਰੇ ਦਾਹੂ ਦਾਹੇ ਸੌ ਦੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਵਿਖੇ ਆਏ ਹਨ, (ਭਾਵ ਪੂਰਣ ਜੋਗੀਸ਼ਰ ਗਿਣੇ ਗਏ ਹਨ। ਅੱਠਵੀਂ ਤੁਕ ਵਿਖੇ ਸੁਖ ਫਲ ਦੀ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਖਤਾ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ)।
Getting freedom from the ten doors (of body) the perfect yogi gets cent percent accepted (in the court of Lord).
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸੁਖਫਲਚੋਜਵਿਡਾਣੈ।੨੦।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੁਖ ਫਲ ਦਾ ('ਚੋਜ') ਕੌਤਕ ('ਵਿਡਾਣੇ') ਅਚਰਜ ਰੂਪ ਹੈ। (ਸੁਖ ਫਲ ਦੇ ਅਨੰਦ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਹੀ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ, ਕੋਈ ਗੇਣਤੀ ਊਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੁੱਜਦੀ।

ਸਉਵਿਚਵਰਤੈਸਿਖਸੰਤਇਕੋਤਰਸੌਸਤਿਗੁਰਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ।
ਸਿਖ ਸੰਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੌ ਵਿਖੇ ਵਰਤਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰੰਤੂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ (ਗੁਰ ਨਾਨਕ) ਜੀ (ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ) ਸਦਾ ਅਟੱਲ ਹੋਣ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਇਕ ਉੱਪਰ ਸੌ (ਅਰਥਾਤ ਇਕੋਤਰ ਸੌ) ਕਹੀਦੇ ਹਨ। (ਅੱਗੇ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਵਿਸਥਾਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ)।
If the Sikh is hundred times, the eternal true Guru is hundred and one times.
ਸਦਾਸਦੀਵਦੀਵਾਣਜਿਸੁਅਸਥਿਰਸਦਾਨਆਵੈਜਾਸੀ।
ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ 'ਦੀਵਾਨ' (ਸਤਿਸੰਗ) ਹੈ (ਆਪ ਬੀ) ਸਦਾ ਸਥਿਰ ਆਉਣ ਜਾਣੋ ਰਹਤ (ਅਕਾਸ਼ ਵਤ ਪੂਰਣ) ਹਨ।

ਇਕਾਗਰ ਮਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਗਲੋਂ ਜਮ ਨੇ ਫਾਸੀ ਕੱਟ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ।
He who meditates upon Him with singleminded devotion, gets his noose of Yama, cut asunder.

Without the teachings of Guru, the jivgoes on taking birth and dying and is ultimately thrown in hell.
ਨਿਰਗੁਣਸਰਗੁਣਸਤਿਗੁਰੂਵਿਰਲਾਕੋਗੁਰਸਬਦਸਮਾਸੀ।
ਨਿਰਗੁਣ ਅਤੇ ਸਰਗੁਣਾ ਰੂਪ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਜਾਣਕੇ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਗੁਰ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਖੇ ਸਮਾਏਗਾ।
The true Guru (Lord) is without attributes and yet possesses all the qualities.
ਬਿਨੁਗੁਰੁਓਟਨਹੋਰੁਕੋਸਚੀਓਟਨਕਦੇਬਿਨਾਸੀ।
ਬਿਨਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਓਟ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ (ਇਹੋ ਸੱਚੀ ਓਟ ਹੈ ਸੱਚੀ ਓਟ ਕਦੇ ਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ।
A rare one absorbes himself in the word of the Guru. There is no shelter without Guru's and this true refuge never gets destroyed.
ਗੁਰਾਂਗੁਰੂਸਤਿਗੁਰੁਪੁਰਖੁਆਦਿਅੰਤਿਥਿਰੁਗੁਰੂਰਹਾਸੀ।
(੯) ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਪੁਰਖ ਹੈ, ਆਦਿ ਅੰਤ ਵਿਚ ਥਿਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਰਹੇਗਾ।
The true Guru (Lord), Guru of all Gurus, is the immutable Guru from beginning to end.
ਕੋਵਿਰਲਾਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸਹਜਿਸਮਾਸੀ।੨੧।
(੧੦) ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ (ਜੋ) ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਹੋਊ, ਸੋ ਸਹਜ ਵਿਚ ਸਮਾਏਗਾ।
Any rare gurmukh gets merged in the equipoise.

ਧਿਆਨਮੂਲਮੂਰਤਿਗੁਰੂਪੂਜਾਮੂਲਗੁਰੁਚਰਣਪੁਜਾਏ।
ਧਿਆਨ ਦਾ 'ਮੂਲ' (ਮੁੱਢ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮੂਰਤ ਹੈ (ਅਰਥਾਤ ਗੁਰ ਮੂਰਤੀ ਵਿਖੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਧਿਆਨ ਹਨ), (ਤਿਹਾ ਹੀ) ਪੂਜਾ ਦਾ ਮੂਲ ਗੁਰੂ ਚਰਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਪੂਜਾ ਹੈ।
Basis of meditation is the form of Gum (who is with qualities as well as beyond all qualities) and basic worship is worship of the feet of the Guru.
ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁਮੂਲੁਗੁਰੁਵਾਕਹੈਸਚੁਸਬਦੁਸਤਿਗੁਰੂਸੁਣਾਏ।
ਮੰਤਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਮੂਲ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਬਚਨ ਹੈ, ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਸੱਚਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਸੁਣਾਵਦਾ ਹੈ।
Basis of the mantras is the word of the Guru and the true Guru recites the true word.
ਚਰਣੋਦਕੁਪਵਿਤ੍ਰਹੈਚਰਣਕਮਲਗੁਰੁਸਿਖਧੁਆਏ।
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਣ ਕਮਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜੋ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਿਖ ਧੋਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਓਹ ਚਰਣੋਦਕ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਹੈ।
The wash of the feet of Guru is sacred and the Sikhs wash the lotus feet (of the Guru).
ਚਰਣਾਮ੍ਰਿਤਕਸਮਲਕਟੇਗੁਰੁਧੂਰੀਬੁਰੇਲੇਖਮਿਟਾਏ।
ਚਰਣਾਮ੍ਰਿਤ ('ਕਸਮਲ') ਭਾਰੀ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕੱਟ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਚਰਨ ਦੀ ਧੂਰੀ ਖੋਟੇ ਲੇਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਟਾਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
Nectar of the feet of Guru cuts asunder all sins and the dust of the Guru's feet erases all evil writs.
ਸਤਿਨਾਮੁਕਰਤਾਪੁਰਖੁਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂਵਿਚਿਰਿਦੈਸਮਾਏ।
(ੴ) ਸਤਿਨਾਮੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ (ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰਵੈਰ ਅਕਾਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਅਜੂਨੀ ਸੈਭੰ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ॥ ਜਪੁ॥ ਆਦਿ ਸਚੁ ਜੁਗਾਦਿ ਸਚੁ ਹੈ ਭੀ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹੋਸੀ ਭੀ ਸਚੁ) ਇਸ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ (ਗੁਰਮੰਤਰ) ਨੂੰ ਰਿਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਵੇ।
By its grace the true named creator Lord, Vahiguru, comes to reside in the heart.
ਬਾਰਹਤਿਲਕਮਿਟਾਇਕੇਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਤਿਲਕਨੀਸਾਣਚੜ੍ਹਾਏ।
ਬਾਰਾਂ ਤਿਲਕ (ਬੈਰਾਗੀਆਂ ਦੇ) ਮਿਟਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਝੰਡੇ ਦਾ ਤਿਲਕ ਚੜ੍ਹਾਵੇ (ਅਥਵਾ ਪ੍ਰਤੱਖ ਤਿਲਕ ਸੁਰਤ ਉੱਚੀ ਕਰਨੇ ਦਾ ਲਾਵੇ)।
Effacing the twelve marks of the yogis, the gurmukh puts on his forehead the mark of the grace of the Lord.
ਰਹੁਰਾਸੀਰਹੁਰਾਸਿਏਹੁਇਕੋਜਪੀਐਹੋਰੁਤਜਾਏ।
ਹੋਰ ਰਹੁਰਾਸਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਇਕ ਹੀ 'ਰਹਿਰਾਸ' (ਗੁਰੂ ਬਾਣੀ ਦੀ) ਜਾਣਕੇ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਜਾਪ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਹੋਰ (ਜਾਪ) ਛੱਡ ਦੇਵੇ (ਅਥਵਾ ਰਹੁ ਰੀਤਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਇਕੋ ਰਾਹੁ ਰੀਤ ਚੰਗੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਹੋਰ ਜਾਪ ਛੱਡਕੇ ਇਕ ਦਾ ਜਾਪ ਕਰੇ)।
Out of all religious conducts, only one code of conduct is true that repudiating all, one should go on remembering the one Lord alone.
ਬਿਨੁਗੁਰਦਰਸਣੁਦੇਖਣਾਭ੍ਰਮਤਾਫਿਰੇਠਉੜਿਨਹੀਂਪਾਏ।
Following any one other than the Guru, man goes on wandering without any shelter.
ਬਿਨੁਗੁਰੁਪੂਰੈਆਏਜਾਏ।੨੨।੪੦।ਚਾਲੀਹ।
(੯) ਬਿਨਾ ਪੂਰਣ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ (ਚੌਰਾਸੀ ਲੱਖ ਜੋਨੀਆਂ ਵਿਖੇ) ਮਰਦਾ ਜੰਮਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।☬ਭਾਵ- ਤਾਂਤੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਗੁਰ, ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪੁਰਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਆਵੇ।
Devoid of the perfect Guru, jiv goes on suffering transmigration.
