ਪਉੜੀ੧
(ਰੋਸ=ਗੁੱਸਾ ਡੁਡਹੁਲਿੱਕਾ=ਨਿਮਾਣਾ। ਸੁਰੀਤਾ=ਗੋਲੀ। ਜਨਮ ਦੀ=ਜਨਮ ਕਰਕੇ। ਸਾਵਾਣੀ=ਰਾਣੀ।)
ਧ੍ਰੂਹਸਦਾਘਰਿਆਇਆਕਰਿਪਿਆਰੁਪਿਉਕੁਛੜਿਲੀਤਾ।
ਧ੍ਰੁਵ ਹਸਦਾ ਹਸਦਾ ਘਰ ਆਇਆ, ਪਿਤਾ ਨੇ ਪਯਾਰ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਕੁਛੜ ਲੇ ਲੀਤਾ।
Boy Dhru came smiling to his house (palace) and his father full of love put him into his lap.
ਬਾਹਹੁਪਕੜਿਉਠਾਲਿਆਮਨਵਿਚਿਰੋਸੁਮਤ੍ਰੇਈਕੀਤਾ।
ਮਤ੍ਰੇਈ ਮਾਂ ਨੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਗੁੱਸਾ ਖਾਕੇ ਬਾਹੋਂ ਫੜ ਕੇ ਉਠਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ (ਅਤੇ ਕਹਿਣ ਲੱਗੀ ਕਿ ਮੇਰੇ ਢਿੱਡੋਂ ਜੰਮਦੋਂ ਤਾਂ ਗੋਦੀ ਲਾਇਕ ਹੁੰਦਾ)।
Seeing this, the stepmother got angry and catching hold of his arm pushed him out of the lap of the father (the king).
ਡੁਡਹੁਲਿਕਾਮਾਂਪੁਛੈਤੂੰਸਾਵਾਣੀਹੈਕਿਸੁਰੀਤਾ।
ਨਿਮਾਣਾ ਹੋ ਕੇ (ਸੱਕੀ) ਮਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੁੱਛਣ ਲੱਗਾ (ਹੇ ਮਾਂ!) ਤੂੰ ਸਵਾਣੀ ਹੈਂ ਕਿ ਗੋਲੀ ਹੈਂ?
Tearful with fear he asked his mother whether she was a queen or a maidservant?
ਸਾਵਾਣੀਹਾਂਜਨਮਦੀਨਾਮੁਨਭਗਤੀਕਰਮਿਦ੍ਰਿੜ੍ਹੀਤਾ।
(ਮਾਂ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ) ਸਵਾਣੀ ਤਾਂ ਜਨਮ ਦੀ ਹਾਂ (ਭਾਵ ਗੋਲੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਾਂ, ਪਰ ਮੈਂ) ਨਾਮ ਤੇ ਭਗਤੀ ਦਾ ਕਰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ। (ਭਾਵ, ਜੇ ਕਰਦੀ ਤਾਂ ਤੂੰ ਕਿਉਂ ਉਠਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ)।
O son! (said she) I was born queen but I did not remember God and did not undertake acts of devotion (and this is the reason of yours and mine plight).
ਕਿਸੁਉਦਮਤੇਰਾਜੁਮਿਲਿਸਤ੍ਰੂਤੇਸਭਿਹੋਵਨਿਮੀਤਾ।
(ਧ੍ਰੁਵ ਪੁਛਦਾ ਹੈ ਮਾਂ ਜੀ!) ਕਿਸ ਜਤਨ ਨਾਲ ਰਾਜ ਮਿਲੇ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਤ੍ਰ੍ਰੁ ਸਾਰੇ ਮਿੱਤ੍ਰ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਵਨ?
With that effort can the kingdom be had (asked Dhru) and how can enemies turn friends?
ਪਰਮੇਸਰੁਆਰਾਧੀਐਜਿਦੂਹੋਈਐਪਤਿਤਪੁਨੀਤਾ।
(ਮਾਂ ਕਹਿਣ ਲਗੀ ਬੱਚਾ!) ਈਸ਼੍ਵਰ (ਦਾ ਮਨ ਵਿਖੇ ਵੈਰਾਗ ਧਾਰਕੇ ਸਭ ਦਾ ਤਯਾਗ ਕਰਕੇ) ਆਰਾਧਨ ਕਰੀਏ (ਜਦ ਓਹ ਪਰਮੇਸੁਰ ਦਿਆਲ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਬਖਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ) ਤਦ ਪਤਿਤ ਤੋਂ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ।
The Lord should be worshipped and thus the sinners also become sacred ones (said the mother).
ਬਾਹਰਿਚਲਿਆਕਰਣਿਤਪੁਮਨਬੈਰਾਗੀਹੋਇਅਤੀਤਾ।
(ਇਹ ਸੁਣਕੇ ਧ੍ਰੁਵ ) ਬਾਹਰ ਤਪ ਕਰਨ ਤੁਰ ਪਿਆ, ਮਨ ਵੈਰਾਗਵਾਨ ਤੇ ਅਤੀਤ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ।
Listening to this and getting totally detached in his mind Dhru went out (to the jungle) to undertake rigorous discipline.
ਨਾਰਦਮੁਨਿਉਪਦੇਸਿਆਨਾਉਨਿਧਾਨੁਅਮਿਓਰਸੁਪੀਤਾ।
ਨਾਰਦ ਮੁਨੀ ਨੇ (ਧ੍ਰੁਵ ਨੂੰ) ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦਿੱਤਾ, (ਧ੍ਰੁਵ ਨੇ) ਨਾਮ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਤਰਸ ਪੀਤਾ।
On the way, sage Narad taught him the technique of devotion and Dhru quaffed the nectar from the ocean of the Name of the Lord.
ਪਿਛਹੁਰਾਜੇਸਦਿਆਅਬਿਚਲੁਰਾਜੁਕਰਹੁਨਿਤਨੀਤਾ।
(੯) (ਜਦ ਭਜਨ ਵਿਚ ਪੂਰਨ ਹੋਇਆ) ਪਿੱਛੋਂ ਰਾਜੇ ਨੇ ਬੁਲਾਇਆ (ਕਿ ਆ ਕੇ ਰਾਜ ਕਰ, ਪਰ ਧ੍ਰੁਵ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਹੁਣ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਰਾਜ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ) ਸਦਾ ਅਚੱਲ ਰਾਜ ਕਰਾਂਗਾ, (ਜੋ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ)
(After some time) King (Uttanpad) called him back and asked him (Dhru) to rule forever.
ਹਾਰਿਚਲੇਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਜਗਜੀਤਾ।੧।
(੧੦) (ਸਿੱਟਾ)-ਗੁਰਮੁਖ (ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਹਾਰ ਤੁਰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਓਹੋ) ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ ਜਿੱਤ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
The gurmukhs who seem to be losing i.e. who turn their faces from the evil propensities, conquer the world.
ਪਉੜੀ੨
ਘਰਿਹਰਣਾਖਸਦੈਤਦੇਕਲਰਿਕਵਲੁਭਗਤੁਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦੁ।
ਹਰਣਾਖਸ਼ ਦੈਤ ਦੇ ਕੱਲਰ (ਰੂਪੀ) ਘਰ ਵਿਚ, ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ ਭਗਤ ਕਵਲ (ਉਤਪਤ ਹੋਇਆ)।
Prahlad, the saint, was born in the house of demon (king) Haranakhas like a lotus is born in the alkaline (barren) land.
ਪੜ੍ਹਨਪਠਾਇਆਚਾਟਸਾਲਪਾਂਧੇਚਿਤਿਹੋਆਅਹਿਲਾਦੁ।
(ਪਿਉ ਨੇ) ਪਾਠਸ਼ਾਲਾ ਵਿਚ ਪੜ੍ਹਨ ਨੂੰ ਘਲਿਆ, ਪਾਂਧੇ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਆਨੰਦ ਹੋਇਆ, (ਇਸ ਲਈ ਕਿ ਰਾਜਕੁਮਾਰ ਚਾਟੜਾ ਬਣਿਆਂ)।
When he was sent to seminary, the brahmin purohit became elated (because the king’s son was now his disciple).
ਸਿਮਰੈਮਨਵਿਚਿਰਾਮਨਾਮਗਾਵੈਸਬਦੁਅਨਾਹਦੁਨਾਦੁ।
(ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ (ਭੀ ਪਰਮੇਸਰ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰੇ ਤੇ (ਮੁਖੋਂ ਭੀ) ਇਕ ਰਸ ਧੁਨੀ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਗਾਵੇ।
Prahlad would remember the name of Ram in his heart and outwardly also he would eulogise the Lord.
ਭਗਤਿਕਰਨਿਸਭਚਾਟੜੈਪਾਂਧੇਹੋਇਰਹੇਵਿਸਮਾਦੁ।
ਸਾਰੇ ਸ਼ਾਗਿਰਦ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਨ ਲੱਗੇ, ਪਾਂਧੇ (ਦੇਖ ਕੇ) ਹੱਕੇ ਬੱਕੇ ਹੋ ਗਏ।
Now all the disciples became devotees of Lord, which was an awful and embarrassing situation for all the teachers.
ਰਾਜੇਪਾਸਿਰੂਆਇਆਦੋਖੀਦੈਤਿਵਧਾਇਆਵਾਦੁ।
ਰਾਜੇ ਪਾਸ (ਪਾਧੇ ਨੇ) ਪੁਕਾਰ ਕੀਤੀ (ਕਿ ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ ਪਰਮੇਸਰ ਉਪਾਸ਼ਕ ਹੈ) ਦੋਖੀ ਦੈਂਤ ਨੇ ਵੱਡਾ ਝਗੜਾ ਵਧਾ ਲਿਆ।
The priest (teacher) reported or complained to the king (that O king your son has become devotee of God).
ਜਲਅਗਨੀਵਿਚਿਘਤਿਆਜਲੈਨਡੁਬੈਗੁਰਪਰਸਾਦਿ।
ਪਾਣੀ ਤੇ ਅੱਗ ਵਿਚ ਸਿਟ ਦਿੱਤਾ, (ਪਰੰਤੂ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਨਾਲ (ਅੱਗ ਨੇ ਨਾ) ਸਾੜਿਆ (ਤੇ ਨਾਂ ਪਾਣੀ ਨੇ) ਡੋਬਿਆ।
The malevolent demon picked up the quarrel. Prahlad was thrown into fire and water but with the grace of Guru (the Lord) neither he was burnt nor drowned.
ਕਢਿਖੜਗੁਸਦਿਪੁਛਿਆਕਉਣੁਸੁਤੇਰਾਹੈਉਸਤਾਦੁ।
ਤਲਵਾਰ ਕੱਢਕੇ ਬੁਲਾਕੇ (ਪੁੱਤ੍ਰ੍ਰ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਉ)ਪੁੱਛਣ ਲੱਗਾ (ਅਰੇ!) ਤੇਰਾ ਕੌਣ ਗੁਰੂ ਹੈ?
Angered as he was, Hiranyaksyapu took out his double-edged sword and asked Prahlad who his Guru (Lord) was.
ਥੰਮ੍ਹੁਪਾੜਿਪਰਗਟਿਆਨਰਸਿੰਘਰੂਪਅਨੂਪਅਨਾਦਿ।
ਤਦੋਂ ਥੰਮ ਨੂੰ ਪਾੜਕੇ ਨਰਸਿੰਘ ਰੂਪ ਅਨੂਪਮ ਬੜੇ ਸਬਦ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਹੋਏ।
At the same moment Lord God in the form of man-lion came out of pillar. His form was grand and majestic.
ਬੇਮੁਖਪਕੜਿਪਛਾੜਿਅਨੁਸੰਤਸਹਾਈਆਦਿਜੁਗਾਦਿ।
(੯) ਬੇਮੁਖ (ਹਰਣਾਖਸ਼) ਨੂੰ ਧਰਤੀ ਪੁਰ ਪਟਕਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਸਦਾ ਤੋਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਆਈ ਹੈ।
That wicked demon was thrown down and killed and thus it was proved that the Lord is kind to devotees since the time immemorial.
ਜੈਜੈਕਾਰਕਰਨਿਬ੍ਰਹਮਾਦਿ।੨।
(੧੦) ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾਦਿ ਭੀ (ਇਸ ਹਾਲ ਪਰ ) ਜੈ ਜੈ ਕਰ ਉੱਠੇ।
Seeing this Brahma and other gods started eulogising the Lord.
ਪਉੜੀ੩
ਬਲਿਰਾਜਾਘਰਿਆਪਣੈਅੰਦਰਿਬੈਠਾਜਗਿਕਰਾਵੈ।
ਰਾਜਾ ਬਲਿ ਆਪਣੇ ਘਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਬੈਠਾ ਜੱਗ ਕਰਾਉਂਦਾ ਸੀ।
Bali, the king, was busy in performing a yajna in his palace.
ਬਾਵਨਰੂਪੀਆਇਆਚਾਰਿਵੇਦਮੁਖਿਪਾਠਸੁਣਾਵੈ।
(ਇਕ) ਬਾਊੂਣੇ ਰੂਪ ਵਾਲਾ (ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ) ਆਯਾ, ਚਾਰ ਬੇਦ ਮੂੰਹ ਜ਼ਬਾਨੀ ਸੁਨਾਉਣ ਲੱਗਾ,
A low stature dwarf in the form of brahmin came there reciting all the four Vedas.
ਰਾਜੇਅੰਦਰਿਸਦਿਆਮੰਗੁਸੁਆਮੀਜੋਤੁਧੁਭਾਵੈ।
ਰਾਜੇ ਨੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਬੁਲਾਕੇ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਮੰਗ ਲੈ ਤੂੰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਜੀ! ਜੋ ਤੈਂ ਭਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ”।
The king after calling him in asked him to demand anything he liked.
ਅਛਲੁਛਲਣਿਤੁਧੁਆਇਆਸੁਕ੍ਰਪੁਰੋਹਿਤੁਕਹਿਸਮਝਾਵੈ।
ਸੁਕ੍ਰ ਪ੍ਰੋਹਤ ਕਹਿਕੇ ਸਮਝਾਵੇ (ਭਈ ਹੇ ਰਾਜਾ! ਇਹ) ਤੈਨੂੰ ਛਲਣ ਨੂੰ ਆਇਆ ਹੈ (ਆਪ) ਨਹੀਂ (ਜੇ) ਛਲਿਆ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ।
Immediately priest Sukracharya made the king (Bali) understand that he (the beggar) is undeceivable God and He had came to delude him.
ਕਰੌਅਢਾਈਧਰਤਿਮੰਗਿਪਿਛਹੁਦੇਤ੍ਰਿਹੁਲੋਅਨਮਾਵੈ।
(ਬਾਉਣੇ ਨੇ) ਅਢਾਈ ਉਲਾਂਘਾਂ ਧਰਤੀ ਮੰਗ ਲੀਤੀ, ਪਿੱਛੋਂ (ਇੱਡਾ ਰੂਪ ਕੀਤਾ) ਜੋ ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸਮਾ ਸਕੇ।
The dwarf demanded two and half steps length of earth (which was granted by the king).
ਦੁਇਕਰਵਾਂਕਰਿਤਿੰਨਲੋਅਬਲਿਰਾਜਾਲੈਮਗਰੁਮਿਣਾਵੈ।
ਦੋ ਕਦਮਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਤਾਂ ਤਿੰਨੇ ਲੋਕ (ਮਿਣ ਲੀਤੇ, ਅੱਧੇ ਕਦਮ ਦੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ) ਬਲ ਰਾਜਾ ਨੇ (ਆਪਣਾ) ਸਰੀਰ ਮਿਣਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
Then the dwarf expanded his body so much that now the three worlds were insufficient for him.
ਬਲਿਛਲਿਆਪੁਛਲਾਇਅਨੁਹੋਇਦਇਆਲੁਮਿਲੈਗਲਿਲਾਵੈ।
(ਰਾਜਾ) ਬਲ ਨੇ (ਬਾਵਨ ਦੇ) ਛਲ ਨਾਲ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਛਲਾ ਲੀਤਾ (ਇਸ ਗੱਲ ਪਰ) ਦਿਆਲ ਹੋਕੇ (ਉਸ ਨੇ ਮਿਲਕੇ (ਬਲ ਨੂੰ )ਗਲ ਨਾਲ ਲਾਇਆ।
Even knowing this deception Bali allowed himself to be deceived so, and seeing this Vishnu embraced him.
ਦਿਤਾਰਾਜੁਪਤਾਲਦਾਹੋਇਅਧੀਨੁਭਗਤਿਜਸੁਗਾਵੈ।
(ਫੇਰ ਉਸਨੂੰ) ਪਤਾਲ ਦਾ ਰਾਜ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤਾ (ਪਰ ਉਹ) ਭਗਤ ਫੇਰ ਭੀ ਅਧੀਨ ਹੋ ਕੇ (ਭਗਵੰਤ ਦਾ) ਜਸ ਗਾਉਣ ਲੱਗਾ। (ਕਈ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ: ਭਗਤ ਦੇ ਅਧੀਨ ਹੋਕੇ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਉਣ ਲੱਗਾ)।
When he covered the three worlds in two steps, for third half-step king Bali offered his own back.
ਹੋਇਦਰਵਾਨਮਹਾਂਸੁਖੁਪਾਵੈ।੩।
(੯) ਡੇਉਢੀ ਬਰਦਾਰ ਹੋਕੇ ਵੱਡਾ ਸੁਖ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Bali was given the kingdom of the netherworld where surrendering to God he engaged himself in the loving devotion of the Lord. Vishnu was delighted to be the doorkeeper of Bali.
ਪਉੜੀ੪
ਅੰਬਰੀਕਮੁਹਿਵਰਤੁਹੈਰਾਤਿਪਈਦੁਰਬਾਸਾਆਇਆ।
(ਰਾਜਾ) ਅੰਬਰੀਕ ਦਾ ਮੂੰਹ (ਇਕਾਦਸ਼ੀ ਦੇ) ਬਰਤ ਵਾਲਾ ਸੀ, ਜਦ ਰਾਤ ਬੀਤੀ ਤਦ ਦੁਰਬਾਸ਼ਾ (ਰਿਖੀ) ਆ ਗਿਆ।
One evening while king Ambaris was fasting he was visited by sage Durvasa
ਭੀੜਾਓਸੁਉਪਾਰਣਾਓਹੁਉਠਿਨ੍ਹਾਵਣਿਨਦੀਸਿਧਾਇਆ।
(ਰਾਜੇ ਨੇ ਦਵਾਦਸ਼ੀ ਵਿੱਚ) ਉਹ ਵਰਤ ਉਪਾਰਣਾਂ ਸੀ, (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਤ੍ਰ੍ਰਯੋਦਸ਼ੀ ਵਿਚ ਉਪਾਰਣ ਨਾਲ ਹਿੰਦੂਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਦੋਸ਼ ਗਿਣੀਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ਉਹ (ਦੁਰਬਾਸ਼ਾ ਰਿਖੀ) ਉੱਠਕੇ ਨਦੀ ਨੂੰ ਨ੍ਹਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਚਲਿਆ ਗਿਆ।
The king was to break his fast while serving Durvasa but the rishi went to the riverbank to take a bath.
ਚਰਣੋਦਕੁਲੈਪੋਖਿਆਓਹੁਸਰਾਪੁਦੇਣਨੋਧਾਇਆ।
(ਰਾਜਾ ਨੇ ਆਤਮ ਪੂਜਾ) ਦਾ ਚਰਣਾਂਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਬਰਤ ਉਪਾਰ ਲੀਤਾ, ਉਹ (ਸੁਣਦਾ ਹੀ) ਸਰਾਪ ਦੇਣ ਲਈ ਦੌੜਿਆ, (ਇਸ ਗੁੱਸੇ ਵਿਚ ਕਿ ਮੂੰਹ ਜੂਠਾ ਕਿਉਂ ਕਰ ਲੀਤਾ)।
Fearing the change of date (which would deem his fast fruitless), the king broke his fast by drinking the water which he had poured on the feet of the rishi. When the rishi realised that the king had not served him first, he ran to curse the king.
ਚਕ੍ਰਸੁਦਰਸਨੁਕਾਲਰੂਪਹੋਇਭੀਹਾਵਲੁਗਰਬੁਗਵਾਇਆ।
ਸੁਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਚੱਕ੍ਰ ਨੇ ਕਾਲ ਰੂਪ ਭਯਾਨਕ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਉਸਦਾ ਗਰਬ ਤੋੜ ਦਿੱਤਾ। (ਤਾਤਪਰਯ ਏਹ ਕਿ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਰਿਖੀ ਜਾਵੇ ਉਸਦਾ ਚੱਕ੍ਰ ਪਿੱਛਾ ਨਾਂ ਛੱਡੇ)
On this, Vishnu ordered his death like disc to move towards Durvasa and thus the ego of Durvasa was removed.
ਬਾਮ੍ਹਣੁਭੰਨਾਜੀਉਲੈਰਖਿਨਹੰਘਨਿਦੇਵਸਬਾਇਆ।
ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ ਜੀ ਭਯਾਣਾ (ਦੈਵ ਪੁਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ) ਭੱਜਿਆ ਅਗੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਨਾ ਰੱਖ ਸਕੇ (ਭਾਵ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਰੇ ਪਰੇ ਕਰਨ)।
Now Brahmin Durvasa ran for his life. Even the gods and deities could not afford him shelter.
ਇੰਦ੍ਰਲੋਕੁਸਿਵਲੋਕੁਤਜਿਬ੍ਰਹਮਲੋਕੁਬੈਕੁੰਠਤਜਾਇਆ।
ਇੰਦ੍ਰ੍ਰ ਪੁਰੀ, ਸ਼ਿਵ ਪੁਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡਕੇ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਲੋਕ ਤੇ ਬੈਕੁੰਠ ਨੂੰ ਛਡਿਆ।
He was avoided in the abodes of Indra, Siva, Brahma and the heavens.
ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂਭਗਵਾਨੁਸਣੁਸਿਖਿਦੇਇਸਭਨਾਂਸਮਝਾਇਆ।
ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਵਿਸ਼ਨੂੰ ਦੇ ਸਾਥ (ਮਿਲ ਕੇ) ਸਿੱਖਯਾ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਸਮਝਾਇਆ (ਭਈ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਤੂੰ ਅਵੱਗਯਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ ਉਸੇ ਭਗਤ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਣੀ ਪਉ)।
Gods and God made him understand (that none except Ambaris could save him).
ਆਇਪਇਆਸਰਣਾਗਤੀਮਾਰੀਦਾਅੰਬਰੀਕਛੁਡਾਇਆ।
(ਜਦ ਰਿਖੀ ਭਗਤ) ਅੰਬਰੀਕ ਦੀ ਆਕੇ ਸ਼ਰਨੀ ਪਿਆ, (ਤਦੋਂ ਭਗਤ ਨੇ ਉਸ) ਮਰੀਂਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਛੁਡਾ ਲੀਤਾ।
Then he surrendered before Ambaris and Ambaris saved the dying sage.
ਭਗਤਿਵਛਲੁਜਗਿਬਿਰਦੁਸਦਾਇਆ।੪।
(੯) ਭਗਤ ਵਛਲ ਬਿਰਦ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚੇ (ਸੱਚਾ) ਕਹਾਇਆ।
The Lord God came to be known in the world as benevolent to devotees.

ਭਗਤੁਵਡਾਰਾਜਾਜਨਕੁਹੈਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਮਾਇਆਵਿਚਿਉਦਾਸੀ।
ਰਾਜਾ ਜਨਕ ਵੱਡਾ ਭਗਤ ਸੀ, ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਤੇ ਮਾਯਾ ਵਿਖੇ ਉਦਾਸ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਸੀ।
King Janak was a great saint who amidst maya remained indifferent to it.
ਦੇਵਲੋਕਨੋਚਲਿਆਗਣਗੰਧਰਬੁਸਭਾਸੁਖਵਾਸੀ।
ਦੇਵ ਲੋਕ ਨੂੰ ਚਲਿਆਂ ਸੀ (ਨਾਲ) ਗੰਧਰਬ (ਗਾਉਂਦੇ) ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਭਾ ਟਹਿਲ ਕਰਦੀ ਸੀ।
Along with gans and gandharvs (calestial musicians) he went to the abode of the gods.
ਜਮਪੁਰਿਗਇਆਪੁਕਾਰਸੁਣਿਵਿਲਲਾਵਨਿਜੀਅਨਰਕਨਿਵਾਸੀ।
ਜਮ ਦੀ ਪੁਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਪੁਕਾਰ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਰਾਜਾ (ਗਿਆ) (ਕੀ ਡਿੱਠਾ? ਕਿ) ਨਰਕ ਦੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਵਡੇ ਕੁਰਲਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
From there, he, hearing the cries of inhabitants of hell, went to them.
ਧਰਮਰਾਇਨੋਆਖਿਓਨੁਸਭਨਾਦੀਕਰਿਬੰਦਖਲਾਸੀ।
ਧਰਮ ਰਾਇ ਨੂੰ (ਆਪ ਨੇ) ਬਚਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਕਿ “ਸਭਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਨਰਕ ਦੀ) ਕੈਦ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਕੱਢ ਦੇਹ”।
He asked the god of death, Dharamrai, to relieve all their suffering.
ਕਰੇਬੇਨਤੀਧਰਮਰਾਇਹਉਸੇਵਕੁਠਾਕੁਰੁਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ।
ਧਰਮ ਰਾਜਾ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਨ ਲੱਗਾ (ਹੇ ਰਾਜਾ!) ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਅਬਿਨਾਸ਼ੀ ਦਾ ਦਾਸ ਹਾਂ। (ਭਾਵ ਉਸਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਕਿੱਕੁਰ ਮੋੜਾਂ? )
Hearing this, the god of death told him he was a mere servant of the eternal Lord (and without His orders he could not liberate them).
ਗਹਿਣੇਧਰਿਓਨੁਇਕੁਨਾਉਪਾਪਾਨਾਲਿਕਰੈਨਿਰਜਾਸੀ।
(ਜਨਕ ਨੇ ਇਕ ਪਾਸੇ ਨਾਮ (ਜਪਣ ਦਾ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਹਾਤਮ) ਰੱਖ ਦਿਤਾ, ਭਈ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਤੋਲਿਆ ਜਾਵੇ।
Janak offered a part of his devotion and remembrance of the name of the Lord.
ਪਾਸੰਗਿਪਾਪੁਨਪੁਜਨੀਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਨਾਉਅਤੁਲਨਤੁਲਾਸੀ।
ਨਾਮ ਵੱਟੇ ਦੀ ਚੌਥਾਈ ਦੇ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਵੀ ਪਾਪ ਨਾ ਪੂਰੇ ਹੋਏ, ਗੁਰਮੁਖ (ਰਾਜਾ ਜਨਕ) ਦਾ (ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣ ਦਾ ਵੱਟਾ) ਅਤੁਲ ਤੇ ਅਤੋਲ ਰਿਹਾ।
All the sins of hell were found not equal even to the counterweight of balance.
ਨਰਕਹੁਛੁਟੇਜੀਅਜੰਤਕਟੀਗਲਹੁੰਸਿਲਕਜਮਫਾਸੀ।
ਨਰਕ ਥੋਂ ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਆਜ਼ਾਦ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਗਲਾਂ ਥੋਂ ਕਰੜੀ ਜਮ ਦੀ ਫਾਹੀ ਕੱਟੀ ਗਈ।
In fact no balance can weigh the fruits of recitation and remembrance of the Lords name by the gurmukh.
ਮੁਕਤਿਜੁਗਤਿਨਾਵੈਦੀਦਾਸੀ।੫।
(੯) ਮੁਕਤੀ ਤੇ ਜੁਗਤੀ (ਦੂਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਮੁਕਤ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਤ੍ਰੀਕਾ) ਨਾਮ ਦੀਆਂ ਦਾਸੀਆਂ ਹਨ।
All the creatures got liberated from hell and the noose of death was cut. Liberation and the technique of attaining it are the servants of the name of the Lord.

ਸੁਖੁਰਾਜੇਹਰੀਚੰਦਘਰਿਨਾਰਿਸੁਤਾਰਾਲੋਚਨਰਾਣੀ।
ਰਾਜੇ ਹਰੀ ਚੰਦ ਘਰ (ਪੂਰਨ) ਸੁਖ (ਦਾ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਸੀ; ਉਸਦੇ ਘਰ) ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਨੇਤਰਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਤਾਰਾ ਨਾਮੇਂ ਰਾਣੀ ਹੈਸੀ।
King HariChand had a queen with beautiful eyes, Tara, who had made his home the abode of comforts.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਮਿਲਿਗਾਵਦੇਰਾਤੀਜਾਇਸੁਣੈਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ।
(ਉਸੇ ਨਗਰੀ) ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਮਿਲਕੇ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਸੀ, (ਉਹ ਰਾਣੀ) ਰਾਤ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ (ਉਥੇ ਜਾਕੇ) ਸੁਣਦੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਸੀ।
At night she would go to the place where in the form of holy congregation, would recite the holy hymns.
ਪਿਛੈਰਾਜਾਜਾਗਿਆਅਧੀਰਾਤਿਨਿਖੰਡਿਵਿਹਾਣੀ।
(ਇਕ ਰਾਤ) ਪਿੱਛੋਂ ਰਾਜਾ ਜਾਗ ਪਿਆ (ਤਦੋਂ) ਅੱਧੀ ਰਾਤ ਪੂਰੀ ਗੁਜ਼ਰ ਚੁਕੀ ਸੀ।
After she had left, the King awoke in the middle of the night and realised she had gone.
ਰਾਣੀਦਿਸਿਨਆਵਈਮਨਵਿਚਿਵਰਤਿਗਈਹੈਰਾਣੀ।
ਰਾਣੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਨਾ ਆਈ, ਮਨ ਵਿਖੇ ਹੈਰਾਨੀ ਵਰਤੀ (ਅਥਵਾ ਮਨ ਵਿਖੇ ਕਹਿੰਦਾ ਸੀ 'ਹੈਂ'! ਰਾਣੀ ਕਿਧਰ ਗਈ? ')
He could not find the Queen anywhere and his heart filled with astonishment
ਹੋਰਤੁਰਾਤੀਉਠਿਕੈਚਲਿਆਪਿਛੈਤਰਲਜੁਆਣੀ।
ਹੋਰ (ਦੂਜੀ) ਰਾਤ ਨੂੰ ਉੱਠਕੇ ਪਿਛੇ ਲੱਗ ਤੁਰਿਆ (ਉਸ) ਚੰਚਲ ਜੁਆਨ ਰਾਣੀ ਦੇ।
The following night he followed the young queen.
ਰਾਣੀਪਹੁਤੀਸੰਗਤੀਰਾਜੇਖੜੀਖੜਾਉਨੀਸਾਣੀ।
(ਰਾਣੀ ਤਾਂ) ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਖੇ ਜਾ ਪੁੱਜੀ, ਰਾਜਾ (ਉਸ ਦੀਆਂ) ਖੜਾਵਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ (ਇਕ ਖੜਾਉਂ) ਨੀਸਾਣੀ ਲੈ ਗਿਆ।
The queen reached the holy congregation and the King lifted one of her sandals from there (so that he could prove the infidelity of the queen).
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਆਰਾਧਿਆਜੋੜੀਜੁੜੀਖੜਾਉਪੁਰਾਣੀ।
(ਜਾਂ ਰਾਣੀ ਉੱਠੀ ਤੇ ਖੜਾਂ ਨਾ ਦੇਖੀ ਤਦ ਘਾਬਰੀ ਨਹੀਂ) ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਦੀ ਅਰਾਧਨਾ ਕੀਤੀ; (ਉਸ) ਪੁਰਾਣੀ ਖੜਾਉਂ ਨਾਲ (ਇਕ ਹੋਰ) ਪੁਰਾਣੀ (ਖੜਾਂਉ) ਮਿਲਕੇ ਜੋੜੀ ਬਣ ਗਈ।
When about to go, the queen concentrated upon the holy congregation and the one sandal became a pair.
ਰਾਜੇਡਿਠਾਚਲਿਤੁਇਹੁਏਹਖੜਾਵਹੈਚੋਜਵਿਡਾਣੀ।
ਰਾਜੇ ਇਹ ਚਲਿੱਤ੍ਰ੍ਰ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਖੜਾਉਂ ਤਾਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਅਚਰਜ ਕੌਤਕ ਹੈ।
The king upheld this feat and realized that there her matching sandal was a miracle.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਵਿਟਹੁਕੁਰਬਾਣੀ।੬।
(੯) ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਤੋਂ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਈਏ।
I am sacrifice unto the holy congregation.

ਆਇਆਸੁਣਿਆਬਿਦਰਦੇਬੋਲੈਦੁਰਜੋਧਨੁਹੋਇਰੁਖਾ।
ਬਿਦਰ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਆਇਆ (ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨ ਦੇਵ ਨੂੰ) ਸੁਣਕੇ ਦੁਰਯੋਧਨ ਗੁੱਸੇ ਨਾਲ (ਕਹਿਣ ਲੱਗਾ)।
Hearing that Lord Krishan was served and stayed over at humble Bidar's home, Duryodhan remarked sarcastically.
ਘਰਿਅਸਾਡੇਛਡਿਕੈਗੋਲੇਦੇਘਰਿਜਾਹਿਕਿਸੁਖਾ।
ਸਾਡੇ ਮੰਦਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਛਡ ਕੇ ਦਾਸ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਜਾਣ ਨਾਲ ਕੀ ਸੁਖ ਹੈ?
Leaving our grand palaces, how much happiness and comfort did you attain in the home of a servant?
ਭੀਖਮੁਦੋਣਾਕਰਣਤਜਿਸਭਾਸੀਗਾਰਵਡੇਮਾਨੁਖਾ।
ਭੀਖਮ ਦਰੋਣਾ, ਕਰਨ (ਆਦਿਕ) ਸਭਾ ਕੇ ਮੁਖੀਏ ਵਡੇ ਮਨੁਖ ਛੱਡ ਦਿਤੇ।
You gave up even Bhikhaum, Dohna and Karan who are recognised as great men who are adorned in all courts.
ਝੁੰਗੀਜਾਇਵਲਾਇਓਨੁਸਭਨਾਦੇਜੀਅਅੰਦਰਿਧੁਖਾ।
(ਕੱਖਾਂ ਦੀ) ਛੱਪਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਰਾਤ ਕੱਟੀ, ਸਭਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਇਸ ਗੱਲ ਦੀ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਹੈ!
We have all been anguished to find that you have lived in a hut”.
ਹਸਿਬੋਲੇਭਗਵਾਨਜੀਸੁਣਿਹੋਰਾਜਾਹੋਇਸਨਮੁਖਾ।
ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨ ਜੀ ਹੱਸਕੇ ਬੋਲੇ, ਹੇ ਰਾਜਨ! ਸੁਣ ਧਯਾਨ ਦੇਕੇ।
Then smilingly, Lord Krishan asked the King to come forward and to listen carefully.
ਤੇਰੇਭਾਉਨਦਿਸਈਮੇਰੇਨਾਹੀਅਪਦਾਦੁਖਾ।
(ਤੇਰੇ ਮਨ) ਵਿਖੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਅਪਦਾ ਦਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਨਹੀਂ।
I see no love and devotion in you (and hence I have not come to you).
ਭਾਉਜਿਵੇਹਾਬਿਦਰਦੇਹੋਰੀਦੇਚਿਤਿਚਾਉਨਚੁਖਾ।
ਬਿਦਰ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਅਜੇਹਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਹੋਰ (ਕਿਸੇ) ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਉਸਦਾ ਰੰਚਕ ਭੀ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
No heart I see has even a fraction of the love that Bidar bears in his heart.
ਗੋਬਿੰਦਭਾਉਭਗਤਿਦਾਭੁਖਾ।੭।
ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ (ਆਪ ਭੀ) ਪ੍ਰੇਮਾ ਭਗਤੀ ਦਾ ਭੁੱਖਾ ਹੈ।
The Lord needs loving devotion and nothing else.
ਪਉੜੀ੮
ਅੰਦਰਿਸਭਾਦੁਸਾਸਣੈਮਥੇਵਾਲਿਦ੍ਰੋਪਤੀਆਂਦੀ।
ਦੁਸਾਸਨ ਨੇ ਸਭਾ ਵਿਚ ਦ੍ਰੋਪਤੀ ਜੂੜੇ ਤੋਂ ਫੜਕੇ ਆਂਦੀ।
Dragging Daropati by the hair, Dusasanai brought her into the assembly.
ਦੂਤਾਨੋਫੁਰਮਾਇਆਨੰਗੀਕਰਹੁਪੰਚਾਲੀਬਾਂਦੀ।
(ਦਰਯੋਧਨ ਨੇ) ਦੂਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ ਇਸ ਪੰਜਾਬਣ ਨੂੰ ਨੰਗੀ ਕਰੋ।
He commanded his men to strip the maidservant Dropati stark naked.
ਪੰਜੇਪਾਂਡੋਵੇਖਦੇਅਉਘਟਿਰੁਧੀਨਾਰਿਜਿਨਾਦੀ।
ਓਹ ਪੰਜੇ ਪਾਂਡਵ (ਯੁਧਿਸਟਰ, ਅਰਜਨ, ਭੀਮਸੈਨ, ਨਕਲ, ਸਹਦੇਵ) ਵੇਖਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਇਸਤ੍ਰ੍ਰੀ ਔਕੜ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਗਈ ਹੈ।
All the five Pandavs who she was the wife of, beheld this.
ਅਖੀਮੀਟਧਿਆਨੁਧਰਿਹਾਹਾਕ੍ਰਿਸਨਕਰੈਬਿਲਲਾਂਦੀ।
ਫੇਰ ਦ੍ਰੋਪਤੀ ਨੇ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਮੀਟਕੇ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰਿਆ ਤੇ ਵਿਲਲਾਕੇ 'ਹਾ ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨ !' ' ਹਾ ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ' ਦੀ ਪੁਕਾਰ ਕੀਤੀ।
Crying, totally dejected and helpless, she closed her eyes. Single-mindedly she invoked Krishna for help.
ਕਪੜਕੋਟੁਉਸਾਰਿਓਨੁਥਕੇਦੂਤਨਪਾਰਿਵਸਾਂਦੀ।
ਦੂਤਾਂ ਨੇ (ਕੱਪੜੇ ਲਾਹ ਲਾਹਕੇ) 'ਕਟ ਉਸਾਰਿਓਨ' (ਭਾਵ ਢੇਰ ਲਾ ਦਿਤੇ, ਤੇ ਲਾਹੁੰਦੇ ਲਾਹੁੰਦੇ) ਥੱਕ ਗਏ, ਪਰ ਅੰਤ ਨਾ ਆਯਾ।
The servants were taking off the clothes from her body but more layers of clothes formed a fort around her; the servants got tired but the layers of clothes were never ending.
ਹਥਮਰੋੜਨਿਸਿਰੁਧੁਣਨਿਪਛੋਤਾਨਿਕਰਨਿਜਾਹਿਜਾਂਦੀ।
ਹੱਥ ਮਰੋੜਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸਿਰ ਧੁਣਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਛੁਤਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ: ਜਾਹ ਜਾਂਦੀ (ਕੁਝ ਨਾ ਬਣਿਆਂ ਮੁਕਾਲਾ ਭੀ ਕਰਾਯਾ ਤੇ ਕਾਰਜ ਭੀ ਨਾ ਹੋਯਾ, ਅੰਤ ਅੱਕਕੇ ਛੱਡ ਦਿੱਤਾ)।
The servants were now writhing and frustrated on their abortive attempt and felt that they themselves were ashamed.
ਘਰਿਆਈਠਾਕੁਰਮਿਲੇਪੈਜਰਹੀਬੋਲੇਸਰਮਾਂਦੀ।
ਘਰ ਆਈ (ਅੱਗੋਂ) ਸੁਆਮੀ ਮਿਲੇ, (ਪੁੱਛਣ ਲੱਗੇ:-ਦ੍ਰੋਪਤੀ!) ਪੈਜ ਰਹਿ ਗਈ? ਸ਼ਰਮਾਂਉਂਦੀ ਹੋਈ ਨੇ ਉੱਤਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ (ਹਾਂ ਜੀ)।
On reaching home, Dropati was asked by Lord Krishna whether she was saved in the assembly.
ਨਾਥਅਨਾਥਾਂਬਾਣਿਧੁਰਾਂਦੀ।੮।
ਨਾਥ ਨੂੰ ਅਨਾਥਾਂ (ਦੇ ਬਿਰਦ ਸੰਭਾਲਣ) ਦੀ ਵਾਦੀ ਧੁਰ ਥੋਂ ਹੈ।
She shyly replied, “Since perennial times you are living up to your reputation of being father of the fatherless ones.”
ਪਉੜੀ੯
ਬਿਪੁਸੁਦਾਮਾਦਾਲਿਦੀਬਾਲਸਖਾਈਮਿਤ੍ਰਸਦਾਏ।
ਸੁਦਾਮਾਂ (ਨਾਮੇਂ) ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ (ਦਰਿੱਦ੍ਰ੍ਰੀ=) ਨਿਰਧਨ ਸੀ, ਬਾਲਕ ੳਮਰਾ ਦਾ (ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨ ਜੀ ਦਾ) ਯਾਰ ਹੈਸੀ।
Sudama, a poor brahman, was known to be a friend of Krishna from childhood.
ਲਾਗੂਹੋਈਬਾਮ੍ਹਣੀਮਿਲਿਜਗਦੀਸਦਲਿਦ੍ਰਗਵਾਏ।
ਉਸਦੀ ਬਾਹਮਣੀ (ਵਹੁਟੀ) ਉਸਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਪੈ ਗਈ ਕਿ ਤੂੰ ਜਗਦੀਸ਼ ਜੀ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ, (ਤੇਰਾ) ਦਰਿੱਦ੍ਰ੍ਰ ਗਵਾ ਦੇਵੇਗਾ।
His brahmin wife always pestered him as to why he did not go to Lord Krishna to alleviate his poverty.
ਚਲਿਆਗਣਦਾਗਟੀਆਂਕਿਉਕਰਿਜਾਈਐਕਉਣੁਮਿਲਾਏ।
(ਦਿਲ ਤਾਂ ਮੰਗਣ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ, ਪਰ) ਗਿਣਤੀਆਂ ਗਿਣਦਾ ਤੁਰ ਪਿਆ (ਭਈ) ਕਿੱਕੁਰ ਮੁਲਾਕਾਤ ਹੋਵੇ ਤੇ ਕੌਣ ਮੁਲਾਕਾਤ ਕਰਾਵੇ?
He was perplexed and pondered over how he could get re-introduced to Krishna, who could help him meet the Lord.
ਪਹੁਤਾਨਗਰਿਦੁਆਰਕਾਸਿੰਘਦੁਆਰਿਖਲੋਤਾਜਾਏ।
ਦੁਆਰਕਾ ਨਗਰੀ ਪਹੁੰਚਾ ਤੇ ਰਾਜ ਦੁਆਰ ਤੇ ਜਾ ਖੜੋਤਾ।
He reached the town of Duaraka and stood before the main gate (of the palace of Krishna).
ਦੂਰਹੁਦੇਖਿਡੰਡਉਤਿਕਰਿਛਡਿਸਿੰਘਾਸਣੁਹਰਿਜੀਆਏ।
ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨ ਜੀ ਦੂਰੋਂ ਦੇਖਕੇ ਸਿੰਘਾਸਨ ਛੱਡਕੇ ਆਏ ਤੇ ਮੱਥਾ ਟੇਕਿਆ।
Seeing him from a distance, Krishna, the Lord, bowed and leaving his throne came to Sudama.
ਪਹਿਲੇਦੇਪਰਦਖਣਾਪੈਰੀਪੈਕੇਲੈਗਲਿਲਾਏ।
ਪਹਿਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਦੱਖਣਾ ਕੀਤੀ, ਪੈਰੀ ਪਏ ਫੇਰ ਗਲ ਨਾਲ ਲਾਯਾ।
First he circumambulated around Sudama and then touching his feet he embraced him.
ਚਰਣੋਦਕੁਲੈਪੈਰਧੋਇਸਿੰਘਾਸਣੁਉਤੇਬੈਠਾਏ।
ਸਿੰਘਾਸਨ ਪੁਰ ਬੈਠਾਕੇ ਚਰਣ ਧੋਤੇ ਤੇ ਚਰਨਾਂਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਲੀਤਾ।
Washing his feet he took that water and made Sudama sit on the throne.
ਪੁਛੇਕੁਸਲੁਪਿਆਰੁਕਰਿਗੁਰਸੇਵਾਦੀਕਥਾਸੁਣਾਏ।
ਪਿਆਰ ਨਾਲ (ਫੇਰ) ਸੁਖ ਸਾਂਦ ਪੁੱਛੀ (ਤੇ) ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਦੀ ਕਥਾ ਕੀਤੀ (ਭਈ ਅਸੀਂ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਟਹਿਲ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਸੇ, ਇਕੇਰਾਂ ਚਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਲੈ ਗਏ ਸੇ, ਭਈ ਭੁੱਖ ਲੱਗੇਗੀ ਤਾਂ ਚੱਬਾਂਗੇ, ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਲੱਕੜੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਗਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ ਤੂੰ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਦਾਣੇ ਚਬ ਲੀਤੇ ਜਦ ਮੇਰੇ ਜੋਗੇ ਨਾ ਰਹੇ ਤਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਗੁੱਸੇ ਹੋ ਪਿ
Then Krishna lovingly enquired about his welfare and talked about the time when they were together in the service of the guru (Sandipani).
ਲੈਕੇਤੰਦੁਲਚਬਿਓਨੁਵਿਦਾਕਰੇਅਗੈਪਹੁਚਾਏ।
(੯) ਫੇਰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪੱਲਿਓਂ ਚਾਵਲ (ਜੇਹੜੇ ਬਾਹਮਣੀ ਨੇ ਭੇਟਾ ਲਈ ਬੰਨ੍ਹ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਸੀ)
Krishna asked for the rice sent by Sudama’s wife and after eating, came out to see off his friend Sudama.
ਚਾਰਿਪਦਾਰਥਸਕੁਚਿਪਠਾਏ।੯।
(੧੦) ਚਾਰੇ ਪਦਾਰਥ 'ਸਭ ਕਿਛ ਇਉਂ) ਸ਼ਰਮਾ ਕੇ ਦਿੱਤੇ (ਜਿੱਕੁਰ ਕੋਈ ਵੱਡਾ ਉਦਾਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਗਰੀਬ ਨੂੰ ਇਕ ਟਕਾ ਦੇਵੇ)।
Though all the four boons (righteousness,wealth,fulfillment of desire and libereation) were given to Sudama by Krishna, Krishna's humbleness still made him feel totally helpless.
ਪਉੜੀ੧੦
ਪ੍ਰੇਮਭਗਤਿਜੈਦੇਉਕਰਿਗੀਤਗੋਵਿੰਦਸਹਜਧੁਨਿਗਾਵੈ।
ਜੈ ਦੇਵ (ਨਾਮੇ ਭਗਤ) ਪ੍ਰੇਮਾ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਸਹਿਜ ਧੁਨਿ (ਸੁਤੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦੀ ਲੈ) ਨਾਲ ਗਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਸੀ।
Getting immersed in the loving devotion, the devotee Jaidev would sing the songs of the Lord (Govind).
ਲੀਲਾਚਲਿਤਵਖਾਣਦਾਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀਠਾਕੁਰਭਾਵੈ।
(ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ) ਕਰਤੱਵ ਤੇ ਚਲਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਵਖਯਾਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਸੀ, (ਓਹ) ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ਰ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਭਾਉਂਦਾ ਸੀ।
He would describe the glorious feats accomplished by God and was greatly loved by him.
ਅਖਰੁਇਕੁਨਆਵੜੈਪੁਸਤਕਬੰਨ੍ਹਿਸੰਧਿਆਕਰਿਆਵੈ।
ਇਕ ਅੱਖ ਅਹੁੜਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ, ਪੁਸਤਕ ਸਾਂਭ ਕੇ ਸੰਧਯਾ ਨੂੰ ਆਵੇ (ਜਾਂ ਪਾਠ ਕਰਨ ਜਾਵੇ)।॥
He (Jaidev) knew no would and hence binding his book would return home in the evening.
ਗੁਣਨਿਧਾਨੁਘਰਿਆਇਕੈਭਗਤਰੂਪਿਲਿਖਿਲੇਖੁਬਣਾਵੈ।
ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਨੇ ਘਰ ਆ ਕੇ ਭਗਤ ਰੂਪ (ਧਰਕੇ) ਲੇਖ ਲਿਖ ਕੇ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
God, the repository of all virtues in the form of the devotee Himself wrote all the songs for him.
ਅਖਰਪੜ੍ਹਿਪਰਤੀਤਿਕਰਿਹੋਇਵਿਸਮਾਦੁਨਅੰਗਿਸਮਾਵੈ।
ਜੈ ਦੇਵ (ਉਹ ਇਕ ਅੱਖਰ ਪੜ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਤ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਹੈਰਾਨ ਹੋ ਅੰਗ ਨਾਂ ਸਮਾਵੇ।
Jaidev would get elated seeing and reading those words.
ਵੇਖੈਜਾਇਉਜਾੜਿਵਿਚਿਬਿਰਖੁਇਕੁਆਚਰਜੁਸੁਹਾਵੈ।
ਫੇਰ ਉਜਾੜ ਵਿਚ ਕੀ ਵੇਖੇ ਇਕ ਅਚਰਜ ਬ੍ਰਿੱਛ ਸੁਹਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
Jaidev saw a wonderful tree in the deep forest.
ਗੀਤਗੋਵਿੰਦਸੰਪੂਰਣੋਪਤਿਪਤਿਲਿਖਿਆਅੰਤੁਨਪਾਵੈ।
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪਤ ਪਤ ਪੁਰ ਗੀਤ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਦਾ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ।
Each and every leaf had the songs of the Lord Govind written on it. He could not understand this mystery.
ਭਗਤਿਹੇਤਿਪਰਗਾਸੁਕਰਿਹੋਇਦਇਆਲੁਮਿਲੈਗਲਿਲਾਵੈ।
ਭਗਤ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਦਿਆਲ ਤੇ ਗਲ ਲਾ ਕੇ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ।
Due to the love for the devotee, God embraced him in person.
ਸੰਤਅਨੰਤਨਭੇਦੁਗਣਾਵੈ।੧੦।
(੯) ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਭੇਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਗਣਾਉਂਦਾ।
God and saint have no veil in between.
ਪਉੜੀ੧੧
ਕੰਮਕਿਤੇਪਿਉਚਲਿਆਨਾਮਦੇਉਨੋਆਖਿਸਿਧਾਇਆ।
ਨਾਮਦੇਵ ਦਾ ਪਿਤਾ ਕਿਤੇ ਕੰਮ ਚਲਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਪੁੱਤ੍ਰ ਨੂੰ ਕਹਿ ਗਿਆ:
Namdev's father was called to do some work so he called Naamdev.
ਠਾਕੁਰਦੀਸੇਵਾਕਰੀਦੁਧੁਪੀਆਵਣੁਕਹਿਸਮਝਾਇਆ।
ਠਾਕੁਰ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰੀਂ, ਦੁੱਧ ਪਿਆਵਣ (ਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਭੀ) ਕਹਿਕੇ ਸਮਝਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
He told Namdev to serve Thakur, the Lord, with milk.
ਨਾਮਦੇਉਇਸਨਾਨੁਕਰਿਕਪਲਗਾਇਦੁਹਿਕੈਲੈਆਇਆ।
ਨਾਮਦੇਵ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਗੋਰੀ ਗਾਂ ਚੋ ਕੇ ਲੈ ਆਯਾ।
After taking bath Namdev brought the milk of black-teat cow.
ਠਾਕੁਰਨੋਨ੍ਹਾਵਾਲਿਕੈਚਰਣੋਦਕੁਲੈਤਿਲਕੁਚੜ੍ਹਾਇਆ।
ਠਾਕੁਰ ਨੂੰ ਨੁਹਾ ਕੇ ਚਰਣ ਜਲ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਤਿਲਕ ਲਾਯਾ।
Having bathed the Thakur, he put the water used to wash the Thakur, on his own head.
ਹਥਿਜੋੜਿਬਿਨਤੀਕਰੈਦੁਧੁਪੀਅਹੁਜੀਗੋਬਿੰਦਰਾਇਆ।
ਹੱਥ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰੇ ਕਿ ਜੀ ਹੇ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਦੁਧ ਪੀਓ।
Now with folded hands he requested the Lord to have milk.
ਨਿਹਚਉਕਰਿਆਰਾਧਿਆਹੋਇਦਇਆਲੁਦਰਸੁਦਿਖਲਾਇਆ।
ਨਿਹਚੇ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਅਰਾਧਨਾ ਕੀਤੀ, ਦਿਆਲ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਦਿਖਲਾਯਾ।
Becoming steadfast in his thoughts when he prayed, the Lord appeared before him in person.
ਭਰੀਕਟੋਰੀਨਾਮਦੇਵਿਲੈਠਾਕੁਰਨੋਦੁਧੁਪੀਆਇਆ।
ਨਾਮਦੇਵ ਨੇ ਕਟੋਰੀ ਭਰੀ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਨੂੰ ਦੁੱਧ ਪਿਲਾਯਾ।
Namdev made Lord drink the full bowl of milk.
ਗਾਇਮੁਈਜੀਵਾਲਿਓਨੁਨਾਮਦੇਵਦਾਛਪਰੁਛਾਇਆ।
ਮੋਈ ਗਾਂ ਜਿਵਾਲੀ, ਨਾਮਦੇਵ ਦਾ ਛੱਪਰ ਬਨਾਯਾ।
On another occasion God brought a dead cow to life and also thatched the hut of Namdev.
ਫੇਰਿਦੇਹੁਰਾਰਖਿਓਨੁਚਾਰਿਵਰਨਲੈਪੈਰੀਪਾਇਆ।
(੯) ਦੇਹੁਰਾ ਫੇਰਕੇ ਰਖਿਆ, ਚਾਰ ਵਰਣ ਨੂੰ (ਉਸਦੇ) ਪੈਰੀਂ ਲੈ ਪਾਇਆ।
On yet another occasion, God rotated the temple (after Naamdev was not allowed entrance) and made all the four castes (varnas) bow at the feet of Namdev.
ਭਗਤਜਨਾਦਾਕਰੇਕਰਾਇਆ।੧੧।
(੧੦) ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਕਰਾਯਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
The Lord accomplishes whatever is done and desired by saints.
ਪਉੜੀ੧੨
ਦਰਸਨੁਦੇਖਣਨਾਮਦੇਵਭਲਕੇਉਠਿਤ੍ਰਿਲੋਚਨੁਆਵੈ।
ਤ੍ਰਿਲੋਚਨ (ਨਾਮੇ ਬਾਣੀਆਂ ਜੋ ਗੁਰ ਭਾਈ ਤੇ ਮਿੱਤ੍ਰ੍ਰ ਭੀ ਸੀ) ਨਾਮਦੇਵ ਦਾ ਸਵੇਰੇ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕਰਨ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਸੀ।
Trilochan awoke early daily just to have sight of Namdev,
ਭਗਤਿਕਰਨਿਮਿਲਿਦੁਇਜਣੇਨਾਮਦੇਉਹਰਿਚਲਿਤੁਸੁਣਾਵੈ।
ਦੋਵੇਂ ਜਣੇ ਮਿਲਕੇ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਸਨ ਤੇ ਨਾਮਦੇਵ ਹਰੀ ਦੀ ਕਥਾ ਸੁਣਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਸੀ।
Together they would concentrate on the Lord and Namdev would tell him the grand stories of God.
ਮੇਰੀਭੀਕਰਿਬੇਨਤੀਦਰਸਨੁਦੇਖਾਂਜੇਤਿਸੁਭਾਵੈ।
(ਤ੍ਰਿਲੋਚਨ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, ਹੇ ਨਾਮਦੇਵ!) ਕਿਵੇਂ ਮੈਂ ਭੀ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਦੇਖ ਸੱਕਾਂ ਮੇਰੀ ਭੀ ਤੂੰ ਮਿੰਨਤ ਕਰ ਜੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਵੇ (ਤਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਭੀ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਪਾਵਾਂ)।
(Trilochan asked Namdev) “kindly pray for me so that if the Lord accepts, I may also have a glimpse of His blessed vision.”
ਠਾਕੁਰਜੀਨੋਪੁਛਿਓਸੁਦਰਸਨੁਕਿਵੈਤ੍ਰਿਲੋਚਨੁਪਾਵੈ।
(ਜਦ ਨਾਮਦੇਵ ਨੇ) ਠਾਕੁਰ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਮਿੰਨਤ ਕੀਤੀ ਕਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਲੋਚਨ ਕਿਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ (ਆਪ ਦਾ) ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ?
Namdev asked Thakur, the Lord, as to how Trilochan could have sight of the Lord ?
ਹਸਿਕੈਠਾਕੁਰਬੋਲਿਆਨਾਮਦੇਉਨੋਕਹਿਸਮਝਾਵੈ।
(ਤਾਂ ਆਪ) ਠਾਕੁਰ ਹੱਸਕੇ ਬੋਲੇ ਤੇ ਕਹਿਕੇ ਸਮਝਾਇਆ ਹੇ ਨਾਮਦੇਵ!
The Lord God smiled and explained to Naamdev;
ਹਥਿਨਆਵੈਭੇਟੁਸੋਤੁਸਿਤ੍ਰਿਲੋਚਨਮੈਮੁਹਿਲਾਵੈ।
(ਤੇਰਾ ਦੀਦਾਰ) ਭੇਟਾ ਨਾਲ ਹੱਥ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ, ਮੈਂ ਤ੍ਰਿਲੋਚਨ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਸੰਨ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਦੇਵਾਂਗਾ।
“No offerings are needed by me. Out of my delight only, I would make Trilochan to have sight of me.
ਹਉਅਧੀਨੁਹਾਂਭਗਤਦੇਪਹੁੰਚਿਨਹੰਘਾਂਭਗਤੀਦਾਵੈ।
ਮੈਂ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਅਧੀਨ ਹਾਂ, ਭਗਤੀ ਦੇ ਦਾਵਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ (ਭਾਵ ਰੱਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ)।
I am under the total control of the devotees and their loving claims I can never reject; rather I myself also cannot understand them.
ਹੋਇਵਿਚੋਲਾਆਣਿਮਿਲਾਵੈ।੧੨।
(ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਤ) 'ਵਿਚੋਲੇ' (ਵਕੀਲ) ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਮਿਲਾ ਦੇਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
Their loving devotion, in fact, becomes mediator and makes them meet me.”
ਪਉੜੀ੧੩
ਬਾਮ੍ਹਣੁਪੂਜੈਦੇਵਤੇਧੰਨਾਗਊਚਰਾਵਣਿਆਵੈ।
ਇਕ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ (ਬਾਹਲੇ) ਦੇਵਤੇ (ਪੱਥਰ ਦੀਆਂ ਮੂਰਤਾਂ) ਪੂਜਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਸੀ ਤੇ ਧੰਨਾ (ਉਸੇ ਖੂਹ ਪੁਰ) ਗਊੂਆਂ ਚਾਰਣ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਸੀ।
A brahman would worship gods (in the form of stone idols) where Dhanna used to graze his cow.
ਧੰਨੈਡਿਠਾਚਲਿਤੁਏਹੁਪੂਛੈਬਾਮ੍ਹਣੁਆਖਿਸੁਣਾਵੈ।
ਧੰਨਾ ਉਸਦਾ ਇਹ ਕਰਤੱਵ ਦੇਖਕੇ ਪੁਛਣ ਲੱਗਾ, (ਦਾਦਾ ਜੀ! ਇਹ ਕੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋ? ) ਬਾਮ੍ਹਣ ਨੇ ਉੱਤਰ ਦਿਤਾ:-
On seeing his worship, Dhanna asked the brahman what he was doing.
ਠਾਕੁਰਦੀਸੇਵਾਕਰੇਜੋਇਛੈਸੋਈਫਲੁਪਾਵੈ।
ਠਾਕੁਰ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਨ ਨਾਲ ਮਨ (ਇੱਛਤ ਕਾਮਨਾ) ਪੂਰਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
“Service to the Thakur (God) gives the desired fruit,” replied the brahman.
ਧੰਨਾਕਰਦਾਜੋਦੜੀਮੈਭਿਦੇਹਇਕਜੇਤੁਧੁਭਾਵੈ।
(ਹੁਣ) ਧੰਨਾ ਮਿੰਨਤ ਕਰਨ ਲੱਗਾ ਕਿ (ਠਾਕੁਰ) ਮੈਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਦੇਹ ਜੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਭਾਵੇ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ।
Dhanna requested, “O brahman, if you agree kindly give one to me.”
ਪਥਰੁਇਕੁਲਪੇਟਿਕਰਿਦੇਧੰਨੈਨੋਗੈਲਛੁਡਾਵੈ।
(ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ) ਨੇ ਇਕ ਪੱਥਰ (ਟੱਲੀ ਵਿਚ) ਲਪੇਟਦੇ ਹੀ ਦੇਕੇ ਮਸੇਂ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਖਹਿੜਾ ਛੁਡਾਇਆ।
The brahman rolled a stone, gave it to Dhanna and thus got rid of him.
ਠਾਕੁਰਨੋਨ੍ਹਾਵਾਲਿਕੈਛਾਹਿਰੋਟੀਲੈਭੋਗੁਚੜ੍ਹਾਵੈ।
(ਧੰਨੇ ਨੇ ਦਾਦੇ ਵਾਂਙ) ਠਾਕਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰਾਕੇ ਰੋਟੀ ਤੇ ਛਾਹ ਭੋਗ ਲਈ ਰੱਖੀ।
Dhanna bathed the Thakur and offered him bread and buttermilk.
ਹਥਿਜੋੜਿਮਿਨਤਿਕਰੈਪੈਰੀਪੈਪੈਬਹੁਤੁਮਨਾਵੈ।
(ਜਦ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਨੇ ਰੋਟੀ ਨਾ ਖਾਧੀ) ਤਾਂ ਹੱਥ ਜੋੜਕੇ ਮਿੰਨਤਾਂ ਕਰਨ ਲੱਗਾ, ਡੰਡੌਤਾਂ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਮਨਾਉਣ ਲਗਾ (ਮਾਨੋਂ ਉਹ ਰੁੱਸ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ)।
With folded hands and falling at the feet of the stone he begged for his service to be accepted.
ਹਉਭੀਮੁਹੁਨਜੁਠਾਲਸਾਂਤੂਰੁਠਾਮੈਕਿਹੁਨਸੁਖਾਵੈ।
(ਫੇਰ ਕਹਿਣ ਲੱਗਾ ਕਿ) ਮੈਂ ਭੀ ਮੂੰਹ ਜੂਠਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਾਂਗਾ (ਭੁੱਖਾ ਰਹਾਂਗਾ, ਜਦ ਖਾਵੇਗੇ ਤਦ ਹੀ ਖਾਂਵਾਂਗਾ) ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਤੂੰ ਰੁੱਸਾ ਹੋਵੇਂ ਤਾਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕੁਛ ਬੀ ਚੰਗਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗਦਾ।
Dhanna said, “I will also not eat because how can I be happy if you are annoyed.”
ਗੋਸਾਈਪਰਤਖਿਹੋਇਰੋਟੀਖਾਇਛਾਹਿਮੁਹਿਲਾਵੈ।
(੯) ਗੁਸਾਈਂ ਪ੍ਰਤੱਖ ਹੋਕੇ ਛਾਹ ਪੀਣ ਲੱਗੇ।
(Seeing his true and loving devotion) God was forced to appear and eat his bread and buttermilk.
ਭੋਲਾਭਾਉਗੋਬਿੰਦੁਮਿਲਾਵੈ।੧੩।
(੧੦) ਭੋਲਾ ਭਾ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਮਿਲਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
In fact, innocence like that of Dhanna makes the sight of the Lord available.
ਪਉੜੀ੧੪
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਬੇਣੀਭਗਤਿਕਰਿਜਾਇਇਕਾਂਤੁਬਹੈਲਿਵਲਾਵੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਬੇਣੀ ਨਾਮੇ ਭਗਤ ਏਕਾਂਤ ਜਗ੍ਹਾ ਬੈਠਕੇ ਸਮਾਧੀ ਲਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਸੀ।
Saint Beni, a gurmukh, used to sit in solitude and would enter a meditative trance.
ਕਰਮਕਰੈਅਧਿਆਤਮੀਹੋਰਸੁਕਿਸੈਨਅਲਖੁਲਖਾਵੈ।
ਨਿਸ਼ਕਾਮ ਕਰਮ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਹੋਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਅਲਖ ਕਰਮ ਲਖਾਂਵਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ, (ਭਾਵ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੰਨਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਸੀ ਇਹ ਜਾਣਕੇ ਕਿ “ਕਰਨ ਕਰਾਵਨ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ”। )
He would perform spiritual activities and in humbleness would never tell anyone.
ਘਰਿਆਇਆਜਾਪੁਛੀਐਰਾਜਦੁਆਰਿਗਇਆਆਲਾਵੈ।
ਜਦ ਘਰ ਆਇਆਂ ਹੋਇਆਂ (ਲੋਕ) ਪੁੱਛਣ, ਤਦ ਆਖੇ ਰਾਜ ਦੁਆਰੇ ਗਿਆ ਸਾਂ। (ਰਾਜ ਦੁਆਰ ਥੋਂ ਪਰਮੇਸਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ ਦੁਆਰੇ ਦਾ ਅਰਥ ਹੈ)।
Reaching back home when asked, he would tell people that he had gone to the door of his king (the Supreme Lord).
ਘਰਿਸਭਵਥੂਮੰਗੀਅਨਿਵਲੁਛਲੁਕਰਿਕੈਝਤਲੰਘਾਵੈ।
(ਵਹੁਟੀ) ਘਰ ਦੀਆਂ ਜ਼ਰੂਰੀ ਚੀਜ਼ਾਂ ਮੰਗੇ ਤਦ ਟਾਲ ਮਟੋਲ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਦਿਨ ਕਟੀ ਕਰ ਛੱਡੇ।
When his wife asked for some household material he would avoid her and thus spend his time performing spiritual activities.
ਵਡਾਸਾਂਗੁਵਰਤਦਾਓਹਇਕਮਨਿਪਰਮੇਸਰੁਧਿਆਵੈ।
ਇਕ ਦਿਨ ਵੱਡਾ ਸਾਂਗ ਵਰਤਿਆ ਕਿ ਓਹ (ਭਗਤ ਤਾਂ ਇਕ ਮਨ ਹੋਕੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੂੰ ਧਿਆ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ।
One day while concentrating on the Lord with single-minded devotion, a strange miracle happened.
ਪੈਜਸਵਾਰੈਭਗਤਦੀਰਾਜਾਹੋਇਕੈਘਰਿਚਲਿਆਵੈ।
ਭਗਤ ਦੀ ਪੈਜ (ਪਤ) ਸੁਆਰਨ ਲਈ (ਹਰੀ) ਰਾਜਾ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਘਰ ਆ ਗਿਆ।
To keep the glory of the devotee, God Himself in the form of King went to his house.
ਦੇਇਦਿਲਾਸਾਤੁਸਿਕੈਅਣਗਣਤੀਖਰਚੀਪਹੁੰਚਾਵੈ।
ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੋਕੇ ਦਿਲਾਸਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਤੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਖਰਚ ਪੁਚਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
In great joy, He consoled everyone and made available profuse money for expenditure.
ਓਥਹੁਆਇਆਭਗਤਿਪਾਸਿਹੋਇਦਇਆਲੁਹੇਤੁਉਪਜਾਵੈ।
ਓਥੋਂ ਭਗਤ ਪਾਸ ਆਕੇ ਵੱਡੀ ਦਇਆ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਪਯਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ।
From there He came to His devotee Beni and compassionately loved him.
ਭਗਤਜਨਾਂਜੈਕਾਰੁਕਰਾਵੈ।੧੪।
(੯) ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਜੈਕਾਰ ਕਰਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
This way He arranges applause for His devotees.
ਪਉੜੀ੧੫
ਹੋਇਬਿਰਕਤੁਬਨਾਰਸੀਰਹਿੰਦਾਰਾਮਾਨੰਦੁਗੁਸਾਈਂ।
ਰਾਮਾਨੰਦ ਗੁਸਾਈਂ ਵਿਰਕਤ ਹੋਕੇ ਕਾਂਸ਼ੀ ਵਿਖੇ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਸੀ।
Being detached from the world, Brahmin Ramanand lived in Varanasi (Kasi).
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁਵੇਲੇਉਠਿਕੈਜਾਂਦਾਗੰਗਾਨ੍ਹਾਵਣਤਾਈਂ।
(ਅਰ) ਝਲਾਂਗੇ ਉੱਠਕੇ ਗੰਗਾ ਦੇ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਸੀ।
He would rise early in the morning and go to the Ganges to bathe.
ਅਗੋਹੀਦੇਜਾਇਕੈਲੰਮਾਪਿਆਕਬੀਰਤਿਥਾਈਂ।
ਕਬੀਰ (ਇਹ ਸਮਝਕੇ ਭਈ ਮਤਾਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮਲੇਛ ਜਾਣਕੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਨਾ ਲਾਉਣ) ਓਥੇ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਵਿਚ) (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਜਾਣ ਤੋਂ) ਪਹਿਲੋਂ ਹੀ ਲੰਮਾ ਜਾ ਪਿਆ।
Once even before Ramanand, Kabir went there and lay in the way.
ਪੈਰੀਟੁੰਬਿਉਠਾਲਿਆਬੋਲਹੁਰਾਮਸਿਖਸਮਝਾਈ।
(ਜਦ ਰਾਮਾਨੰਦ ਜੀ ਲੰਘਣ ਲੱਗੇ ਤਦ ਠੁੱਡਾ ਵੱਜਾ ਤਦ) ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪੈਰ ਦੇ ਅੰਗੂਠੇ ਨਾਲ ਟੁੰਬਕੇ ਉਠਾਕੇ ਕਿਹਾ 'ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ਰ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਲੈ' (ਭਾਵ ਰਸਤਾ ਛੱਡ ਦੇਹ, 'ਰਾਮ ਬੋਲ' ਏਹ ਰਾਮਾਨੰਦ ਦੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਚੜ੍ਹਿਆ ਫਿਕਰਾ ਸੀ, ਪਰ) ਸਿੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਆਈ (ਕਿ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ)।
Touching with his feet Ramanand awakened Kabir and told him to speak ‘Ram’, the true spiritual teaching.
ਜਿਉਲੋਹਾਪਾਰਸੁਛੁਹੇਚੰਦਨਵਾਸੁਨਿੰਮੁਮਹਕਾਈ।
ਜਿਕੁਰ ਲੋਹਾ ਪਾਰਸ ਨਾਲ ਛੁਹ ਕੇ (ਸੋਨਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਰ) ਨਿੰਮ ਚੰਨਣ ਨਾਲ ਰਹਿਕੇ (ਚੰਨਣ ਦੀ) ਖੁਸ਼ਬੋ ਦਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
As the iron touched by philosopher’s stone becomes gold and the margosa tree (Azadirachta indica) is made fragrant by sandal.
ਪਸੂਪਰੇਤਹੁਦੇਵਕਰਿਪੂਰੇਸਤਿਗੁਰਦੀਵਡਿਆਈ।
ਪੂਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ੋਭਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪਸ਼ੂਆਂ ਅਰ ਪਰੇਤਾਂ ਥੋਂ ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ (ਤਿਹਾਂ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ) ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
The wondrous Guru turns even animals and ghosts into angels.
ਅਚਰਜਨੋਅਚਰਜੁਮਿਲੈਵਿਸਮਾਦੈਵਿਸਮਾਦੁਮਿਲਾਈ।
ਅਚਰਜ (ਗੁਰੂ) ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਕੇ (ਸਿੱਖ ਭੀ) ਅਚਰਜ ਰੂਪ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਵਿਸਮ ਦਾ (ਰੂਪ ਈਸ਼ਰ ਨਾਲ) ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
Meeting the wonderous Guru the disciple wonderfully merges into the great wonderous Lord.
ਝਰਣਾਝਰਦਾਨਿਝਰਹੁਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਬਾਣੀਅਘੜਘੜਾਈ।
ਫਿਰ ਨਿੱਝਰਹੁੰ (ਆਤਮਾ ਥੋਂ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਦਾ) ਝਰਨਾ ਝਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਪਰੋਪਕਾਰ ਦਾ; ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਥੋਂ ਸਤ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਵਾਹ ਚਲਦਾ ਹੈ), ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਬਾਦੀ ਅਘੜ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਘੜ ਦੇਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
Then from the Self springs a fountain and the words of the gurmukhs shape a beautiful form
ਰਾਮਕਬੀਰੈਭੇਦੁਨਭਾਈ।੧੫।
(੯) (ਅਜੇਹੇ ਕਬੀਰ ਜੀ ਹੋਏ) ਕਿ ਰਾਮ ਅਤੇ ਕਬੀਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਭੇਦ ਨਾ ਰਿਹਾ।
Now Ram and Kabir became identical.
ਪਉੜੀ੧੬
ਸੁਣਿਪਰਤਾਪੁਕਬੀਰਦਾਦੂਜਾਸਿਖੁਹੋਆਸੈਣੁਨਾਈ।
ਕਬੀਰ ਜੀ ਦਾ (ਵੱਡਾ) ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਦੂਜਾ ਸੈਣ ਨਾਈ ਭੀ ਸਿੱਖ ਜਾ ਬਣਿਆ।
Hearing of glory of Kabir, Sain also turned to be a disciple.
ਪ੍ਰੇਮਭਗਤਿਰਾਤੀਕਰੈਭਲਕੈਰਾਜਦੁਆਰੈਜਾਈ।
ਰਾਤ ਨੂੰ (ਇਹ ਸਦਾ) ਪ੍ਰੇਮਾ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਸੀ ਤੇ ਰੋਜ ਸਵੇਰੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਦੇ ਦੁਆਰੇ ਜਾ ਕੇ (ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਸੀ)।
In the night he would immerse in loving devotion and in the morning he would serve at the door of the king.
ਆਏਸੰਤਪਰਾਹੁਣੇਕੀਰਤਨੁਹੋਆਰੈਣਿਸਬਾਈ।
(ਇਕ ਰਾਤੀਂ) ਸੰਤ ਪਰਾਹੁਣੇ ਆਏ ਸਨ, ਸਾਰੀ ਰਾਤ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ।
On one night some sadhus came to him and the whole night was spent in singing the Lord's praises
ਛਡਿਨਸਕੈਸੰਤਜਨਰਾਜਦੁਆਰਿਨਸੇਵਕਮਾਈ।
ਇਹ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਨਾ ਸਕੇ (ਜਲ ਪੱਖਾ ਆਦਿਕ ਟਹਿਲ ਵਿਚ ਮਗਨ ਰਿਹਾ) ਰਾਜੇ ਦੇ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਸੇਵਾ ਨਾ ਕਮਾਈ।
Sain could not leave company of the saints and consequently did not perform the king’s service the following morning.
ਸੈਣਰੂਪਿਹਰਿਜਾਇਕੈਆਇਆਰਾਣੈਨੋਰੀਝਾਈ।
ਸੈਣ ਰੂਪ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਹਰੀ ਨੇ ਰਾਜਾ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਕੇ (ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ) ਵੱਡਾ ਰਿਝਾਇਆ।
God himself took the form of Sain. He served the king in such a way that the king was overjoyed.
ਸਾਧਜਨਾਂਨੋਵਿਦਾਕਰਿਰਾਜਦੁਆਰਿਗਇਆਸਰਮਾਈ।
(ਸੈਣ) ਸਵੇਰੇ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਦਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਦੇ ਦੁਆਰ ਸ਼ਰਮਾਉਂਦਾ ਗਿਆ।
Bidding fairwell to the saints, Sain hesitantly arrived at the palace of the king.
ਰਾਣੈਦੂਰਹੁੰਸਦਿਕੈਗਲਹੁੰਕਵਾਇਖੋਲਿਪੈਨ੍ਹਾਈ।
ਰਾਣੇ ਨੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਸੱਦ ਕੇ ਅਪਣੀ ਖਿਅਲਤ ਖੋਲ੍ਹ ਕੇ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਗਲ) ਪਹਿਰਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ।
The king From a distance the king called him nearby. He took off his own robes and offered them to Bhagat Sain.
ਵਸਿਕੀਤਾਹਉਂਤੁਧੁਅਜੁਬੋਲੈਰਾਜਾਸੁਣੈਲੁਕਾਈ।
ਰਾਜੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਅੱਜ ਤੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਵੱਸ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਲੋਕ ਬੀ ਸੁਣਦੇ ਸੇ।
‘You have overpowered me’, said the king and his words were heard by one and all.
ਪਰਗਟੁਕਰੈਭਗਤਿਵਡਿਆਈ।੧੬।
(੯) (ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ) ਭਗਤ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
God himself manifests the grandeur of the devotee.
ਪਉੜੀ੧੭
ਭਗਤੁਭਗਤੁਜਗਿਵਜਿਆਚਹੁਚਕਾਂਦੇਵਿਚਿਚਮਿਰੇਟਾ।
(ਰਵਿਦਾਸ) ਚਮਾਰ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਚਾਰੇ ਦਿਸ਼ਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਭਗਤ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਹੋਇਆ।
The tanner (Ravidas) became renowned as bhagat (saint) in all the four directions.
ਪਾਣ੍ਹਾਗੰਢੈਰਾਹਵਿਚਿਕੁਲਾਧਰਮਢੋਇਢੋਰਸਮੇਟਾ।
ਰਸਤੇ ਵਿਖੇ ਜੁੱਤੀਆਂ ਗੰਢੇ ਅਰ ਕੁਲਾ ਧਰਮ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਪਸ਼ੂ ਢੋਕੇ ਸਮੇਟਯਾ ਕਰੇ।
In accordance with his family tradition he would cobble the shoes and carry away the dead animals.
ਜਿਉਕਰਿਮੈਲੇਚੀਥੜੇਹੀਰਾਲਾਲੁਅਮੋਲੁਪਲੇਟਾ।
(ਉੱਪਰੋਂ ਇਹ ਹਾਲ ਸੀ, ਪਰ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਇਉਂ ਸੀ) ਜਿੱਕੁਰ ਮੈਲੇ ਚੀਥੜਿਆਂ (ਲੀਰਾਂ) ਵਿਖੇ ਅਮੋਲਕ ਲਾਲ ਲਪੇਟਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
This was his outward routine but in reality he was a gem wrapped in rags.
ਚਹੁਵਰਨਾਉਪਦੇਸਦਾਗਿਆਨਧਿਆਨੁਕਰਿਭਗਤਿਸਹੇਟਾ।
ਚਾਰ ਵਰਣ (ਖੱਤ੍ਰ੍ਰੀ, ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ ਆਦਿਕਾਂ) ਨੂੰ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦੇਣ ਲਗਾ ਅਰ ਗਿਆਨ ਧਿਆਨ ਕਰਾਉਣ ਲੱਗਾ ਭਗਤੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ।
He would preach all the four varnas (castes). His preaching made them rapt in the meditative devotion for the Lord.
ਨ੍ਹਾਵਣਿਆਇਆਸੰਗੁਮਿਲਿਬਾਨਾਰਸਕਰਿਗੰਗਾਥੇਟਾ।
(ਇਕੇਰਾਂ) ਸੰਗ ਮਿਲਕੇ ਕਾਂਸ਼ੀ ਨੂੰ ਗੰਗਾ ਪੁਰ (ਪੁਰਬੀ) ਨ੍ਹਾਉਣ ਚਲਿਆ (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਗ੍ਰਹਿਣ ਦਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਮੇਲਾ ਲੱਗਣਾ ਸੀ)।
Once, a group of people went to Kasi (Varanasi) to have their sacred dip in the Ganges.
ਕਢਿਕਸੀਰਾਸਉਪਿਆਰਵਿਦਾਸੈਗੰਗਾਦੀਭੇਟਾ।
ਰਵਿਦਾਸ ਨੇ (ਇਕ) ਧੇਲਾ ਕੱਢਕੇ (ਇਕ ਸੰਗੀ ਨੂੰ) ਗੰਗਾ ਦੀ ਭੇਟਾ ਲਈ ਦਿੱਤਾ,
Ravidas gave one dhela (half a pice) to one member and asked him to offer it to the Ganges.
ਲਗਾਪੁਰਬੁਅਭੀਚਦਾਡਿਠਾਚਲਿਤੁਅਚਰਜੁਅਮੇਟਾ।
(ਉਥੇ) ਅਭਿਜਿਤ ਨਛੱਤਰ ਦੀ ਪੂਰਬੀ ਲੱਗੀ ਸੀ, ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ (ਅਮੇਟਾ ਕਹੀਏ) ਅਮਿੱਤ ਚਰਿੱਤ੍ਰ੍ਰ (ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਕੋਈ ਮਿਤ ਨਾ ਪਾ ਸਕੇ) ਡਿੱਠਾ।
A great festival of Abhijit naksatr (star) was on there where the public saw this wonderful episode.
ਲਇਆਕਸੀਰਾਹਥੁਕਢਿਸੂਤੁਇਕੁਜਿਉਤਾਣਾਪੇਟਾ।
ਹਥ ਕੱਢਕੇ (ਰਵਿਦਾਸ ਜੀ ਦਾ) ਧੇਲਾ ਅੰਗੀਕਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ, ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸੂਤ ਇਕ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਤਾਣਾ ਪੇਟਾ (ਦੋ ਨਾਮ ਹਨ)।
Ganges, herself taking out her hand accepted that paltry amount, dhela, and proved that Ravidas was one with Ganges as warp and weft.
ਭਗਤਜਨਾਂਹਰਿਮਾਂਪਿਉਬੇਟਾ।੧੭।
(੯) ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਹਰੀ ਹੀ ਮਾਂ ਪਿਉ ਅਤੇ ਪੁੱਤ ਹੈ।
For bhagats (saints,) God is their mother, father and son all in one.
ਪਉੜੀ੧੮
ਗੋਤਮਨਾਰਿਅਹਿਲਿਆਤਿਸਨੋਦੇਖਿਇੰਦ੍ਰਲੋਭਾਣਾ।
ਗੌਤਮ (ਨਾਮੇਂ ਰਿਖੀ) ਦੀ ਵਹੁਟੀ ਅਹਿੱਲਯਾ (ਵੱਡੀ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਸੀ) ਉਸਨੂੰ ਦੇਖ ਕੇ ਇੰਦਰ ਕਾਮਾਤੁਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ।
Ahalya was wife of Gautam. But when she set eyes Indhar, the king of gods, lust overpowered her.

ਪਰਾਏ ਘਰ ਜਾਣ ਦਾ ਸਰਾਪ ਲੀਤਾ (ਕਿ ਉਸਦੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਪੁਰ) ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਭਗ ਹੋ ਗਏ, (ਹੁਣ ਵੱਡਾ) ਪਛੋਤਾਉਣ ਲੱਗਾ (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਗੌਤਮ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਜਿਸ ਇਕ ਭਗ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੀ ਇਸਤ੍ਰ੍ਰੀ ਦਾ ਸਤ ਭੰਗ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਭਗ ਤੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਪੁਰ ਹੋਊ)।

ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਭਗ ਦੇ ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਨੇਤ੍ਰ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਗਏ, ਤਦ ਇੰਦਰ ਪੁਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਗਿਆ (ਭਾਵ ਜਦ ਸਰਾਪ ਹਟਿਆ)।
On revocation of the curse when all those holes became eyes, only then he returned to his habitat.
ਸਤੀਸਤਹੁਟਲਿਸਿਲਾਹੋਇਨਦੀਕਿਨਾਰੈਬਾਝੁਪਰਾਣਾ।
ਅਹਿੱਲਯਾ ਜੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਤਿੱਬ੍ਰਤ ਧਰਮ ਤੋਂ ਟਲ ਖਲੌਤੀ ਸੀ ਪੱਥਰ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਨਦੀ ਕਿਨਾਰੇ ਪੈ ਰਹੀ।

ਰਘੁਪਤਿਚਰਣਿਛੁਹੰਦਿਆਚਲੀਸੁਰਗਪੁਰਿਬਣੇਬਿਬਾਣਾ।
ਸੋ ਰਘੁਪਤ ਦੇ ਚਰਣ ਸਪਰਸ਼ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਬਿਬਾਣੁ ਪੁਰ ਚੜ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਸ੍ਵਰਗ ਨੂੰ ਚਲੀ ਗਈ।
Touching the (holy) feet of Ram she was lifted to the heavens.
ਭਗਤਿਵਛਲੁਭਲਿਆਈਅਹੁਪਤਿਤਉਧਾਰਣੁਪਾਪਕਮਾਣਾ।
ਭਲਿਆਈ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ (ਭਗਵੰਤ ਭਗਤ ਵੱਛਲ (ਕਹਾਉਂਦਾਹੈ) ਤੇ ਪਤਿਤ ਉਧਾਰਣ ਕਮਾਏ ਪਾਪ (ਬਖਸ਼ਣ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ)।
Because of His benevolence He is mother-like to the devotees and being forgiver of the sinners He is called redeemer of the fallen ones.
ਗੁਣਨੋਗੁਣਸਭਕੋਕਰੈਅਉਗੁਣਕੀਤੇਗੁਣਤਿਸੁਜਾਣਾ।
ਗੁਣ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਤਾਂ ਸਭ ਕੋਈ ਗੁਣ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਵਗੁਣਾਂ ਪੁਰ ਜੋ ਗੁਣ ਕਰੇ ਉਸਦਾ (ਉਪਕਾਰ) ਜਾਣੀਦਾ ਹੈ।
Doing good is returned by good gestures always, but he who does good to the evil is known as virtuous.
ਅਬਿਗਤਿਗਤਿਕਿਆਆਖਿਵਖਾਣਾ।੧੮।
(੯) (ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੀ) ਅਗਾਧ ਗਤੀ ਹੈ ਕੀ ਆਖਕੇ ਸੁਣਾਈਏ।
How can I explain the greatness of that unmanifest (Lord).

ਵਾਟੈਮਾਣਸਮਾਰਦਾਬੈਠਾਬਾਲਮੀਕਵਟਵਾੜਾ।
ਰਸਤੇ ਵਿਚ ਬੈਠਾ ਬਾਲਮੀਕ ਧਾੜਵੀ (ਆਏ ਗਏ) ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਕੇ (ਧਨ ਖੋਹ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਸੀ।
Valmeel was a highwayman Valmiki who would rob and kill travellers passing by.
ਪੂਰਾਸਤਿਗੁਰੁਭੇਟਿਆਮਨਵਿਚਿਹੋਆਖਿੰਜੋਤਾੜਾ।
(ਇਕੇਰਾਂ) ਪੂਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਲ ਹੋਗਿਆ (ਹੁਣ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਦੁਚਿੱਤੀ ਹੋਈ।
Then he began serving the true Guru, Now his mind became diffident about his work.
ਮਾਰਨਨੋਲੋਚੈਘਣਾਕਢਿਨਹੰਘੈਹਥੁਉਘਾੜਾ।
ਮਾਰਨ ਨੂੰ (ਮਨ ਤਾਂ) ਬੜਾ ਲੋਚੇ ਪਰ ਹੱਥ ਨਾ ਚੱਲਣ।
His mind still urged to kill people but his hands would not obey.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਮਨੂਆਰਾਖਿਆਹੋਇਨਆਵੈਉਛੇਹਾੜਾ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਭੀ ਰੱਛਾ ਕੀਤੀ, ਮਾਰਨ ਦਾ ਜੋਸ਼ ਫੁਰਨਾ (ਭੀ) ਹਟ ਗਿਆ।
The true Guru made his mind tranquil and all the volition of mind came to an end.
ਅਉਗੁਣੁਸਭਪਰਗਾਸਿਅਨੁਰੋਜਗਾਰੁਹੈਏਹੁਅਸਾੜਾ।
(ਹੁਣ) ਸਾਰਾ ਅਵਗੁਣ ਕਹਿ ਦਿੱਤਾ (ਕਿ ਮਹਾਰਾਜ) ਸਾਡੀ ਉਪਜੀਵਕਾ ਹੀ ਇਹੋ ਹੈ।
He unfolded all the evils of mind before the Guru and said, ‘O Lord, this is a profession for me.’
ਘਰਵਿਚਿਪੁਛਣਘਲਿਆਅੰਤਿਕਾਲਹੈਕੋਇਅਸਾੜਾ।
(ਸੰਤਾਂ ਨੇ) ਭੇਜਿਆ ਭਈ ਘਰੋਂ ਤੂੰ ਪੁਛ ਆ ਕਿ ਅੰਤ ਨੂੰ ਤੇਰਾ ਕੋਈ (ਰੱਛਕ) ਭੀ ਹੋਊੂ?
The Guru asked him to enquire at home as to which family members would be co-partner him of his evil deeds at death.
ਕੋੜਮੜਾਚਉਖੰਨੀਐਕੋਇਨਬੇਲੀਕਰਦੇਝਾੜਾ।
(ਜਦ ਘਰ ਪੁੱਛਣ ਆਇਆ) ਸਾਰਾ ਕੋੜਮਾਂ ਵਾਰਨੇ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਸੀ (ਪਰੰਤੂ ਅੰਤ ਨੂੰ ) ਬੇਲੀ ਹੋਣ ਦਾ ਝਾੜਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਨਾ ਕੀਤਾ, (ਇਸਤ੍ਰ੍ਰੀ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਮਾਤਾ ਆਦਿ ਨੇ ਸੁੱਕਾ ਹੀ ਜਵਾਬ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਕਿ ਸਾਡਾ ਅੰਤਕਾਲ ਦਾ ਜੁੰਮਾ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ)।
But although his family were always ready to be sacrifice unto him, none of them were ready to accept responsibility.
ਸਚੁਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਉਧਾਰਿਅਨੁਟਪਿਨਿਕਥਾਉਪਰਵਾੜਾ।
(ਜਦ ਫੇਰ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਪਾਸ ਆਇਆ ਤਾਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ) ਸੱਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦਿਤਾ, ਇਸੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ (ਟੱਪ ਨਿਕੱਥਾ, ਉਪਰ ਵਾੜਾ ਕਹੀਏ) ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦੀ ਫਾਹੀ ਥੋਂ) ਟੱਪਕੇ ਅਰਸ਼ਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਿਕਲ ਗਿਆ।
On returning, the Guru placed the sermon of truth within his heart and made him a liberated one. With a single leap he was released from the net of worldliness.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਲੰਘੇਪਾਪਪਹਾੜਾ।੧੯।
(੯) (ਅੱਗੇ ਲਿਖਦੇ ਹਨ) ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਹਾੜ ਥੋਂ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
Becoming gurmukh, one becomes capable of jumping across mountains of sins.

ਪਤਿਤੁਅਜਾਮਲਪਾਪੁਕਰਿਜਾਇਕਲਾਵਤਣੀਦੇਰਹਿਆ।
(ਇਕ) ਅਜਾਮਲ ਨਾਮੇ ਪਾਪੀ ਪਾਪ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਕਲੌਤਣੀ ਦੇ (ਘਰ)ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ।
Ajamil, the fallen sinner lived with a prostitute.
ਗੁਰੁਤੇਬੇਮੁਖੁਹੋਇਕੈਪਾਪਕਮਾਵੈਦੁਰਮਤਿਦਹਿਆ।
ਗੁਰੂ ਥੋਂ ਬੇਮੁਖ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ, ਵਡੇ ਪਾਪ ਕਮਾਵੇ ਤੇ ਖੋਟੀ ਮਤ ਨੇ ਨਾਸ਼ ਕਰ ਦਿਤਾ।
He became an apostate. He was entangled in the cobweb of evil deeds.
ਬਿਰਥਾਜਨਮੁਗਵਾਇਆਭਵਜਲਅੰਦਰਿਫਿਰਦਾਵਹਿਆ।
ਬਿਰਥਾ ਵਿਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਜਨਮ ਗਵਾ ਦਿਤਾ, ਸੰਸਾਰ ਸਮੁੰਦ੍ਰ੍ਰ ਵਿਚ ਰੁੜ੍ਹਦਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਸੀ।
His life was wasted in futile deeds and was tossed and thrown within the terrifying worldly ocean.
ਛਿਅਪੁਤਜਾਏਵੇਸੁਆਪਾਪਾਦੇਫਲਇਛੇਲਹਿਆ।
ਵੇਸ਼ਵਾ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਛੀ ਪੁੱਤ੍ਰ੍ਰ ਹੋਏ ਮਾਨੋਂ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਦੇ ਫਲ ਚਾਹੇ ਹੋਏ ਲੀਤੇ, (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਓਹ ਭੀ ਵਡੇ ਸ਼ਿਕਾਰੀ ਤੇ ਧਾੜਵੀ ਹੋਏ)।
While with the prostitute, he became the father of six sons. As a result of her bad deeds they all became dangerous robbers.
ਪੁਤੁਉਪੰਨਾਂਸਤਵਾਂਨਾਉਧਰਣਨੋਚਿਤਿਉਮਹਿਆ।
ਜਦ ਸੱਤਵਾਂ ਪੁਤਰ ਹੋਇਆ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਂਉਂ ਰੱਖਣ ਲਈ ਚਿੱਤ ਉਮੰਗ ਨਾਂਲ ਭਰਿਆ।
A seventh son was born and he began to consider a name for the child.
ਗੁਰੂਦੁਆਰੈਜਾਇਕੈਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਨਾਉਨਰਾਇਣੁਕਹਿਆ।
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦਵਾਰੇ ਪੁਰ ਜਾਕੇ Ḥ ਨਾਉਂ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ), ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਨੇ ਪੁੱਤ੍ਰ੍ਰ ਦਾ ਨਾਉਂ “ਨਾਰਾਇਨ” ਆਖਿਆ (ਕਿ ਰੱਖੋ)।
He visited the Guru who named his son Narayan (a name for God).
ਅੰਤਕਾਲਜਮਦੂਤਵੇਖਿਪੁਤਨਰਾਇਣੁਬੋਲੈਛਹਿਆ।
(ਜਦ ਅਜਾਮਲ ਦਾ) ਅੰਤਕਾਲ ਆਇਆ ਪੁੱਤ੍ਰ੍ਰ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖਕੇ ਡਰਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਨਾਰਾਇਣ ਦਾ ਨਾਉਂ ਲਵੇ (ਕਿ ਹੇ ਨਾਰਾਇਣ! ਮੇਰੀ ਰੱਛਾ ਕਰ)।
At the end of his life, seeing the messengers of death Ajamil cried for Narayan.
ਜਮਗਣਮਾਰੇਹਰਿਜਨਾਂਗਇਆਸੁਰਗਜਮੁਡੰਡੁਨਸਹਿਆ।
ਹਰਿ ਗਣਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਕੇ ਜਮ ਗਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਕੇ (ਹਟਾਯਾ) ਤੇ ਜਮਡੰਡਾ ਨਾ ਸਹਾਰਿਆ, ਸੁਰਗ ਨੂੰ ਚਲਿਆ ਗਿਆ।
The name of God made the death messengers take to their heels. Ajamil went to heaven and did not suffer the beatings from the club of the messengers of death.
ਨਾਇਲਏਦੁਖੁਡੇਰਾਢਹਿਆ।੨੦।
(੯) ਨਾਮ ਲੈਣ ਨਾਲ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਡੇਰਾ ਢਹਿ ਪਿਆ।
Utterance of Name of the Lord dispels all sorrow.

ਗਨਿਕਾਪਾਪਣਿਹੋਇਕੈਪਾਪਾਂਦਾਗਲਿਹਾਰੁਪਰੋਤਾ।
(ਇਕ) ਵੇਸਵਾ ਪਾਪਣ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗਲੇ ਦੇ ਹਾਰ (ਵਾਂਙੂੰ) ਰੱਖਦੀ ਸੀ।
Gankaa was a sinful prostitute who wore the necklace of misdeeds around her neck.
ਮਹਾਂਪੁਰਖਆਚਾਣਚਕਗਨਿਕਾਵਾੜੇਆਇਖਲੋਤਾ।
ਇਕ ਮਹਾਂ ਪੁਰਖ ਸੁਤੇ ਸਿੱਧ ਗਨਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਵੇਹੜੇ ਆ ਖੜੋਤਾ।
Once a great man was passing by who halted in her courtyard.
ਦੁਰਮਤਿਦੇਖਿਦਇਆਲੁਹੋਇਹਥਹੁਉਸਨੋਦਿਤੋਨੁਤੋਤਾ।
ਉਸਦੀ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਦੇਖ ਕੇ (ਗੁੱਸੇ ਹੋਣ ਦੀ ਥਾਂ 'ਹੱਥਹੁਂ' ਕਹੀਏ ਸਮਗਾਂ) ਅਥਵਾ ਹੱਥ ਦਾ ਤੋਤਾ ਦਯਾਲ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
Seeing her bad plight he became compassionate and offered her a special parrot.
ਰਾਮਨਾਮੁਉਪਦੇਸੁਕਰਿਖੇਲਿਗਇਆਦੇਵਣਜੁਸਓਤਾ।
ਤੇ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਸੌ) ਗੁਣਾ (ਨਫੇ ਵਾਲਾ) ਵਣਜ ਦੇ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਆਪ ਖੇਲ ਭਇਆ) ਚਲਿਆ ਗਿਆ।
He told her to teach the parrot to repeat the name of Ram. Having made her understand this fruitful trade he then went away.
ਲਿਵਲਗੀਤਿਸੁਤੋਤਿਅਹੁਨਿਤਪੜ੍ਹਾਏਕਰੈਅਸੋਤਾ।
(ਹੁਣ ਉਸ ਗਨਕਾ ਨੂੰ) ਅਜੇਹੀ ਲਿਵ ਲਗੀ ਰਾਤ ਬੀ ਜਾਗਾ ਕਰਦੀ ਰਹੇ ਤੇ ਨਿਤ ਉਸ ਤੋਤੇ ਨੂੰ (ਭਗਵੰਤ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ) ਪੜ੍ਹਾਉਂਦੀ ਰਹੇ।
Each and every day, with full concentration, she would teach the parrot to say Ram.
ਪਤਿਤੁਉਧਾਰਣੁਰਾਮਨਾਮੁਦੁਰਮਤਿਪਾਪਕਲੇਵਰੁਧੋਤਾ।
ਉਸਦੇ (ਕਲੇਵਰ=) ਸਰੀਰ ਤੋਂ ਖੋਟੀ ਮਤ ਅਤੇ ਪਾਪਾਂ (ਦੀ ਮੈਲ) ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਈ, (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪਤਿਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਉਧਾਰ ਕਰਨੇ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
The name of Lord is the liberator of the fallen ones. It washed away her evil wisdom and deeds.
ਅੰਤਕਾਲਿਜਮਜਾਲੁਤੋੜਿਨਰਕੈਵਿਚਿਨਖਾਧੁਸੁਗੋਤਾ।
ਅੰਤਕਾਲ (ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪ ਨਾਲ) ਨਰਕ ਦੀ ਟੁੱਭੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਚ ਕੇ ਜਮ ਜਾਲ ਤੋੜ ਗਈ।
At the time of death, it cut away the noose of Yama - the messenger of death she did not have to drown in the ocean of hell.
ਗਈਬੈਕੁੰਠਿਬਿਬਾਣਿਚੜ੍ਹਿਨਾਉਂਰਸਾਇਣੁਛੋਤਿਅਛੋਤਾ।
ਬਿਬਾਨ ਪਰ ਅਰੂੜ੍ਹ ਹੋ ਬੈਕੁੰਠ ਜਾ ਪੁੱਜੀ, (ਤਾਂ ਤੇ) ਈਸ਼ਰ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਛੋਤਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਅਛੋਤ=) ਭਾਵ ਨਿਰਦੂਖਨ ਹੈ (ਕੋਈ ਜਪੇ, ਸਭ ਦਾ ਉਧਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਹਾ 'ਖੱਤ੍ਰ੍ਰੀ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ ਸੂਦ ਵੈਸ ਉਧਰੇ ਸਿਮਰ ਚੰਡਾਲ' ਨਾਮ ਐਸੀ ਰਸਾਇਣਾ ਵਸਤੂ ਹੈ)।
Due to the elixir of name (of the Lord) she became totally devoid of sins and was lifted to the heavens.
ਥਾਉਂਨਿਥਾਵੇਂਮਾਣੁਮਣੋਤਾ।੨੧।
(੯) (ਨਾਮ ਹੀ) ਨਿਥਾਵਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਥਾਉਂ ਤੇ ਨਿਮਾਣਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਣ ਹੈ।
The name (of the Lord) is the last refuge of the shelterless ones.

ਆਈਪਾਪਣਿਪੂਤਨਾਦੁਹੀਥਣੀਵਿਹੁਲਾਇਵਹੇਲੀ।
ਪਾਪਣ ਪੂਤਨਾ (ਕੰਸ ਦੀ ਭੇਜੀ ਹੋਈ) ਦੋ ਥਣਾਂ ਪੁਰ ਵਿਹੁ ਲਾ ਕੇ ਆਈ ਜੋ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ (ਵਹੇਲੀ=) ਵਿਹੁ ਵਾਲੀ ਸੀ।
The ill-reputed Putana applied poison on both of her teats.
ਆਇਬੈਠੀਪਰਵਾਰਵਿਚਿਨੇਹੁੰਲਾਇਨਵਹਾਣਿਨਵੇਲੀ।
ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਵਿਖੇ ਆ ਕੇ ਬੈਠ ਗਈ, ਨਵੇਂ ਹਾਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਨਵੀਂ ਵਹੁਟੀ (ਵਾਂਗੂ) ਨੇਂਹ ਲਾਵਣ ਲੱਗੀ।

ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨ ਨੂੰ ਕੁੱਛੜ ਵਿਖੇ ਲੈ ਲੀਤਾ ਚਲਿੱਤ੍ਰ੍ਰਣ (ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ) ਮਹਿਕਾ ਕੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਨ ਲਗੀ।
Through her clever deception, she lifted Krishna in her lap.
ਮੋਹਣੁਮੰਮੇਪਾਇਓਨੁਬਾਹਰਿਆਈਗਰਬਗਹੇਲੀ।
ਮ☬ੋਹਣ ਨੂੰ ਮੰਮੇ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਬਾਹਰ ਆ ਗਈ, ਤੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਨਾਲ।

ਦੇਹਵਧਾਇਉਚਾਇਅਨੁਤਿਹਚਰਿਆਰਿਨਾਰਿਅਠਿਖੇਲੀ।
ਤੇਰਾਂ ਤਾਲਣ ਤੇ ਚੰਚਲ ਇਸਤ੍ਰ੍ਰੀ ਨੇ ਦੇਹ ਵਧਾਕੇ ਉੱਚੀ ਕਰ ਲੀਤੀ।
Now she expanded her body to a great extent.
ਤਿਹੁੰਲੋਆਂਦਾਭਾਰੁਦੇਚੰਬੜਿਆਗਲਿਹੋਇਦੁਹੇਲੀ।
(ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨ) ਤਿੰਨ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦਾ ਭਾਰ ਦੇ ਕੇ (ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਗਲ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਬੜ ਗਿਆ (ਉਹ) ਦੁਖੀ ਹੋਈ।
Krishna also becoming the full weight of the three worlds hung from and stuck to her neck.
ਖਾਇਪਛਾੜਪਹਾੜਵਾਂਗਿਜਾਇਪਈਉਜਾੜਿਧਕੇਲੀ।
ਭਵਾਟਣੀ ਖਾ ਕੇ ਪਹਾੜ ਵਾਂਗੂੰ ਉਜਾੜ ਵਿਚ ਧੱਕੀ ਹੋਈ ਜਾ ਪਈ।
Getting unconscious, and like a mountain she fell down into the forest.
ਕੀਤੀਮਾਊਤੁਲਿਸਹੇਲੀ।੨੨।
(ਅੰਤ ਦੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨ ਨੇ) ਮਾਤਾ ਦੀ ਸਹੇਲੀ ਦੇ ਤੁੱਲ (ਪੂਤਨਾ) ਕੀਤੀ (ਭਾਵ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਗਤੀ ਕੀਤੀ)।
Krishna liberated her at last and gave her status of equal to his mother’s friend.

ਜਾਇਸੁਤਾਪਰਭਾਸਵਿਚਿਗੋਡੇਉਤੇਪੈਰਪਸਾਰੇ।
ਪਰਭਾਸ (ਨਾਮੇਂ ਤੀਰਥ) ਵਿਖੇ (ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨ) ਆਪਣੇ ਗੋਡੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਪੈਰ ਰੱਖਕੇ ਸੁੱਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ।
At the sacred place of Prabhas, Krishna slept cross legged with his foot on his knee.
ਚਰਣਕਵਲਵਿਚਿਪਦਮੁਹੈਝਿਲਮਿਲਝਲਕੇਵਾਂਗੀਤਾਰੇ।
ਚਰਣ ਕਮਲ ਵਿਖੇ ਕਵਲ ਦਾ ਚਿੰਨ੍ਹ ਇਉਂ (ਝਿਲਮਿਲ=) ਵੱਡਾ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਚਮਕਦਾ ਸੀ ਜਿੱਕੁਰ ਤਾਰਾ (ਝਿਲਮਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ)।
The lotus sign in his foot was illuminating like a star.
ਬਧਕੁਆਇਆਭਾਲਦਾਮਿਰਗੈਜਾਣਿਬਾਣੁਲੈਮਾਰੇ।
(ਇਕ) ਬੱਧਕ (ਜੋ ਮਿਰਗ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਿਕਾਰ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ ਮਿਰਗ) ਭਾਲਦਾ ਆਯਾ, (ਉਸਨੇ) ਮਿਰਗ ਜਾਣ ਕੇ ਬਾਣ ਮਾਰਿਆ।
A hunter came and considering it an eye of a deer, shot the arrow.
ਦਰਸਨਡਿਠੋਸੁਜਾਇਕੈਕਰਣਪਲਾਵਕਰੇਪੁਕਾਰੇ।
(ਜਦ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਨੇੜੇ) ਜਾਕੇ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕੀਤਾ, ਤਦ ਤਾਂ ਕੀਰਣੇ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਰੋਵੇ।
As he approached, he realised it was Krishna. He became full of sorrow and begged forgiveness.
ਗਲਿਵਿਚਿਲੀਤਾਕ੍ਰਿਸਨਜੀਅਵਗੁਣੁਕੀਤਾਹਰਿਨਚਿਤਾਰੇ।
ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨ ਨੇ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਗਲ ਨਾਲ ਲਾ ਲੀਤਾ (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ) ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ (ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦੇ) ਅਉਗਣ ਕੀਤੇ ਯਾਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਰੱਖਦਾ।
Krishna ignored his wrong act and embraced him.
ਕਰਿਕਿਰਪਾਸੰਤੋਖਿਆਪਤਿਤਉਧਾਰਣੁਬਿਰਦੁਬੀਚਾਰੇ।
ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਸਨੁੰ ਸੰਤੋਖਿਆ (ਧੀਰਜ ਦਿੱਤਾ) ਪਤਿਤ ਉਧਾਰਣ ਬਿਰਦ ਦੀ ਪਾਲਣਾ ਕੀਤੀ।
Gracefully Krishna asked him to be full of perseverance and gave sactuary to the wrongdoer.
ਭਲੇਭਲੇਕਰਿਮੰਨੀਅਨਿਬੁਰਿਆਂਦੇਹਰਿਕਾਜਸਵਾਰੇ।
ਭਲੇ ਤਾਂ ਭਲੇ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੰਨੇ ਹੀ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਹਰੀ ਪਾਪੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਜ ਸਵਾਰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
The good is said good by everyone but the works of the evil doers are set right by the Lord only.

He has liberated many fallen sinners.
