ੴਸਤਿਗੁਰਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ॥

ਪਉੜੀ੧
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਸਚਾਪਾਤਿਸਾਹੁਪਾਤਿਸਾਹਾਂਪਾਤਿਸਾਹੁਜੁਹਾਰੀ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਸਚਾ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਹੈ, (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਨਿਮਸਕਾਰ ਹੈ।
I salute the true Guru who is the true king of kings.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਸਚਿਖੰਡੁਹੈਆਇਝਰੋਖੈਖੋਲੈਬਾਰੀ।
(ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ) ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਦੇ ਸੱਚੇ ਖੰਡ ਵਿਖੇ ਆ ਕੇ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਮੁਖ ਰੂਪ ਝਰੋਖੇ ਦੀ (ਰਸਨਾ ਰੂਪ) ਤਾਕੀ ਖੋਲ੍ਹਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਭਾਵ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ)।
The Holy congregation is the abode of truth where the gates of mind are opened.
ਅਮਿਉਕਿਰਣਿਨਿਝਰਝਰੈਅਨਹਦਨਾਦਵਾਇਨਿਦਰਬਾਰੀ।
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਣ ਇੱਕ ਰਸ ਝਰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਅਨਹਦ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ ਦਰਬਾਰੀ (ਜੋ ਗੁਰੂ ਹਨ ਸੋ) ਵਜਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
The fountain of nectar flows here forever and the courtiers play the unstruck melody.
ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹਾਂਦੀਮਜਲਸੈਪਿਰਮੁਪਿਆਲਾਪੀਵਣਭਾਰੀ।
(ਹੋਰ) ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਦੀ ਕਚਹਿਰੀ ਵਿਖੇ ਪਿਰੀ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਲਾ ਪੀਵਣਾ ਖਰਾ ਔਖਾ ਹੈ।
In the assembly of the kings it is very difficult to drink the cup of love.
ਸਾਕੀਹੋਇਪੀਲਾਵਣਾਉਲਸਪਿਆਲੈਖਰੀਖੁਮਾਰੀ।
(ਜਿਸਨੂੰ) ਗੁਰੂ (ਸਾਕੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਲਾ) ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਸ ਪਿਆਲੇ ਦੀ ਜੂਠ ਵਿਚ ਖਰੀ ਮਸਤੀ (ਚੜ੍ਹਦੀ) ਹੈ।
The Guru becomes the beloved butler and makes one drink it, the delight of His tasted cup becomes multiplied.
ਭਾਇਭਗਤਿਭੈਚਲਣਾਮਸਤਅਲਮਸਤਸਦਾਹੁਸਿਆਰੀ।
ਪ੍ਰੇਮਾ ਭਗਤੀ ਦੇ ਭੈ ਵਿਖੇ ਚਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਓਹ (ਦੀਨ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਵਲੋਂ) ਮਸਤ ਅਲਮਸਤ ਹੋਕੇ (ਫੇਰ ਬੀ) ਹੁਸ਼ਯਾਰ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ ਬਾਵਲਾ ਨਹਂ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ)।
Whosoever moves in the fear of loving devotion, he being carefree of the worldliness remains alert.
ਭਗਤਵਛਲੁਹੋਇਭਗਤਿਭੰਡਾਰੀ।੧।
ਆਪ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਉਸ ਭਗਤ ਦਾ ਭੰਡਾਰੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਸਭ ਭਾਵਨਾਂ ਪੂਰਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ)
Kind to the devotees, God, becomes their caretaker and fulfils all their desires.
ਪਉੜੀ੨
ਇਕਤੁਨੁਕਤੈਹੋਇਜਾਇਮਹਰਮੁਮੁਜਰਮੁਖੈਰਖੁਆਰੀ।
ਇਕ ਨੁਕਤੇ ਥੋਂ 'ਮਹਿਰਮ' ਤੇ 'ਮੁਜਰਮ' ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਫਾਰਸੀ) ਵਿਚ ਮਹਰਮ ਵਾਲੀ 'ਹੇ' ਵਿਚ ਨੁਕਤਾ ਲਗ ਜਾਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਪਦ ਮੁਜਰਮ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ਭਲਿਆਣ ਤੋਂ ਖੁਆਰੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, (ਭਾਵ ਜੋ ਮਹਰਮ=ਜਾਣੂੰ ਭੇਤ ਨਾ ਰੱਖੇ ਤਦ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਜੋ ਨੇਕ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਸੀ ਉਸਦੀ ਖੁਆਰੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਅਰ ਉਹ ਮੁਜਰਮ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ)।
In Persian language only a point makes ‘mahram’ the confidant, a mujarim, the offender.
ਮਸਤਾਨੀਵਿਚਿਮਸਲਤੀਗੈਰਮਹਲਿਜਾਣਾਮਨੁਮਾਰੀ।
ਮਸਤਾਨੀ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਲਤੀ ਹੈ ਗੈਰ ਮਹੱਲ ਵੱਲ ਜਾਣ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਰੋਕੋ, (ਮਸਤਾਨੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਿਚ ਨੇਕ ਸਲਾਹ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਦੂਜੇ ਥਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ, ਅਥਵਾ ਮਨ ਮਾਰ ਰਖੇ, ਦੂਈ ਥਾਂ ਪਰ ਮਨ ਨਾ ਧਰੇ ਕੁਸੰਗ ਨਾ ਕਰੇ ਤੇ ਭੇਤ ਜਰਕੇ ਰੱਖਣ ਲਈ ਨੇਕ ਸਲਾਹ ਇਹ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪਿਛਲੀ ਪੌੜੀ ਵਿਚ ਕਹੀ ਹੋਈ ਮਸਤੀ ਧਾਰ ਲਵੇ)।
Gurmukhs remain exhilarated in the holy congregation and they do not like to go to other assemblies.
ਗਲਨਬਾਹਰਿਨਿਕਲੈਹੁਕਮੀਬੰਦੇਕਾਰਕਰਾਰੀ।
ਗੱਲ ਨਾ ਬਾਹਰ ਕੱਢੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਦਾ ਦਾਸ ਹੋਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਤਕੜੀ ਕਰੇ।
In the will of the Lord they serve vigorously and try not to make it public.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸੁਖਫਲੁਪਿਰਮਰਸੁਦੇਹਿਬਿਦੇਹਵਡੇਵੀਚਾਰੀ।
(ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ) ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦਾ ਰਸ ਆਇਆ ਹੈ, ਓਹ (ਸੁਖ ਫਲ=) ਆਤਮ ਸੁਖ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਕੇ ਦੇਹ ਦੇ ਰਸਾਂ ਥੋਂ ਬਿਦੇਹ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਵੀਚਾਰਦੇ ਹਨ। (“ਰੁਖੀ ਸੁਖੀ ਖਾਇਕੇ ਠੰਢਾ ਪਾਣੀ ਪੀਉ”। ਤਾਤਪਰਜ ਇਹ ਕਿ ਨਿਰਬਾਹ ਮਾਤ੍ਰ੍ਰ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ)।
Such gurmukhs attain the fruit of happiness and giving up the pride of body, and becoming bodiless they become serious thinkers.
ਗੁਰਮੂਰਤਿਗੁਰਸਬਦੁਸੁਣਿਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਆਸਣੁਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੀ।
ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ (ਸੱਚੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਜਾਣਕੇ ਸੁਣਦੇ ਹਨ (ਤੇ)ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਨੂੰ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਦਾ ਆਸਣ (ਰਾਜ ਗੱਦੀ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ)।
The word of the Guru is their idol and the holy congregation is the seat of the formless Lord.
ਆਦਿਪੁਰਖੁਆਦੇਸੁਕਰਿਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁਵੇਲਾਸਬਦੁਆਹਾਰੀ।
ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮੱਥਾ ਟੇਕ ਪ੍ਰਾਤਹਕਾਲ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦਾ ਭੋਜਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਅਥਵਾ ਆਸਾ ਦੀ ਵਾਰ ਜਾਂ ਹੋਰ ਸ਼ਬਦਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਾਠ ਬਾਝ ਰੋਟੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਖਾਂਦੇ)।
Bowing before the primeval Purusa, in the ambrosial hours they chew the Word (gurbani).
ਅਵਿਗਤਿਗਤਿਅਗਾਧਿਬੋਧਿਅਕਥਕਥਾਅਸਗਾਹਅਪਾਰੀ।
ਅਬਿਗਤ (ਜਿਸਦੀ ਗਤੀ ਨਾ ਲਖੀ ਜਾਏ), ਡੂੰਘੇ ਗਯਾਨ ਵਾਲਾ, ਕਥਨ ਤੋਂ ਅਕਥ, ਬੇਅੰਤ, ਪਾਰ ਥੋਂ ਰਹਿਤ (ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣਕੇ)।
To have knowledge of the dynamism of that unmanifest Lord is a very deep experience, and to say something of that ineffable Lord is a Herculean task.
ਸਹਨਿਅਵੱਟਣੁਪਰਉਪਕਾਰੀ।੨।
ਆਪ ਉੱਪਰ ਦੁਖ ਝੱਲ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਪਰੋਪਕਾਰੀ ਹੋਕੇ।
Only Gurmukhs suffer while doing good to others.
ਪਉੜੀ੩
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਜਨਮੁਸਕਾਰਥਾਗੁਰਸਿਖਮਿਲਿਗੁਰਸਰਣੀਆਇਆ।
(ਉਸ) ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਸਫਲ ਹੈ (ਜਿਹੜਾ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਿਖਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਣੀ ਆ ਲੱਗਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ ਗੁਰੂ ਅਰਜਨ ਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਚਰਨ ਪਕੜੇ ਹਨ)।
The life of that gurmukh is fortunate whom meeting some Sikh of the Guru has come to the shelter of the Guru.
ਆਦਿਪੁਰਖਆਦੇਸੁਕਰਿਸਫਲਮੂਰਤਿਗੁਰਦਰਸਨੁਪਾਇਆ।
ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖ (ਗੁਰ ਸ਼ਬਦ) ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਮੱਥਾ ਟੇਕਕੇ ਸਫਲ ਮੂਰਤੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਹੈ, (ਭਾਵ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਹੀ ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ)।
He bows before primeval Purusa (God) and becomes blessed after having the sight of such a Guru.
ਪਰਦਖਣਾਡੰਡਉਤਕਰਿਮਸਤਕੁਚਰਣਕਵਲਗੁਰਲਾਇਆ।
ਪਰਕਰਮਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੱਥਾ ਟੇਕ ਕੇ ਮਸਤਕ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਲਾਇਆ ਹੈ।
After circumambulation he bows on the lotus feet of Guru.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁਪੁਰਖਦਇਆਲੁਹੋਇਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂਸਚੁਮੰਤ੍ਰੁਸੁਣਾਇਆ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਪੁਰਖ ਨੇ ਦਿਆਲ ਹੋਕੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸੱਚਾ ਮੰਤਰ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਸੁਣਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
Becoming kind, the Guru recites true mantra Vaheguru for him.
ਸਚਰਾਸਿਰਹਰਾਸਿਦੇਪੈਰੀਂਪੈਜਗੁਪੈਰੀਪਾਇਆ।
ਸੱਚੀ ਰਾਸ (ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਕੇ) ਸੱਚੀ ਜੁਗਤ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਧਾਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ; (ਆਪ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ) ਪੈਰੀਂ ਪਿਆ ਸੀ, (ਹੁਣ) ਜਗਤ ਉਸਦੀ ਪੈਰੀਂ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
The Sikh with his capital of devotion falls at the feet of Guru and the whole world bows at his feet.
ਕਾਮਕਰੋਧੁਵਿਰੋਧੁਹਰਿਲੋਭੁਮੋਹੁਅਹੰਕਾਰੁਤਜਾਇਆ।
(ਸਾਰੇ) ਵਿਰੋਧੀ (ਵਿਸ਼ੇ) ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ ਛੱਡ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ।
God (the Guru) eradicates his lust, anger and resistance and gets his greed, infatuation and ego erased.
ਸਤੁਸੰਤੋਖੁਦਇਆਧਰਮੁਨਾਮੁਦਾਨੁਇਸਨਾਨੁਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਆ।
ਸਤ ਸੰਤੋਖ ਦਯਾ ਧਰਮ (ਸ਼ੁਭ ਗੁਣ) ਨਾਮ ਦਾਨ ਤੇ ਅਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਦ੍ਰਿੜ ਕੀਤੇ ਹਨ।
Instead, the Guru makes him practise truth, contentment, dharma, name, charity and ablution.
ਗੁਰਸਿਖਲੈਗੁਰਸਿਖੁਸਦਾਇਆ।੩।
(ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਅਜੇਹੀ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਯਾ (ਯਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਖੀ) ਲੀਤੀ ਹੈ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸਿੱਖ (ਉਸੇ) ਸਦਵਾਇਆ ਹੈ।
Adopting the teachings of the Guru, the individual is called a Sikh of the Guru.
ਪਉੜੀ੪
ਸਬਦਸੁਰਤਿਲਿਵਲੀਣੁਹੋਇਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਸਚਿਮੇਲਿਮਿਲਾਇਆ।
ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਸੁਰਤ ਦੀ ਲਿਵ (ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ) ਵਿਖੇ ਮਗਨ ਹੋਕੇ ਸੰਗਤਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸੱਚਾ ਮੇਲ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।
Absorbing consciousness into the Word, the gurmukhs meet at the true meeting centre of the holy congregation.
ਹੁਕਮਰਜਾਈਚਲਣਾਆਪੁਗਵਾਇਨਆਪੁਜਣਾਇਆ।
(ਰਜਾਈ=) ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਚੱਲਕੇ (ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ) ਆਪਾ ਭਾਵ ਗਵਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ) ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਣਾਇਆ (ਭਾਵ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪ ਸਵਾਰ ਲੀਤਾ ਨਿਰਮਾਣ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ)।
They move in the will of the Lord and erasing their ego they do not make themselves to be noticed.
ਗੁਰਉਪਦੇਸੁਅਵੇਸੁਕਰਿਪਰਉਪਕਾਰਿਅਚਾਰਿਲੁਭਾਇਆ।
ਗੁਰ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿਖੇ ਪਰਵੇਸ਼ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਪਰੋਪਕਾਰੀ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ।
Inspired by the teachings of Guru they always remain eager to undertake the acts of public weal.
ਪਿਰਮਪਿਆਲਾਅਪਿਉਪੀਸਹਜਸਮਾਈਅਜਰੁਜਰਾਇਆ।
ਪਿਆਰੇ ਦੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਲਾ ਪੀਕੇ ਸਹਜ (ਪਦ ਵਿਖੇ ਸੁਰਤ ਸਮਾਈ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਅਜਰ (ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਗਿਆਨ) ਨੂੰ ਜਰ ਲੀਤਾ ਹੈ (ਅਥਵਾ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ਦਮਨ ਕੀਤੇ ਹਨ)।
Quaffing the grand cup of the ineffable knowledge of the Lord and merging in equipoise, they bear the unbearable, ever-descending energy of the Lord.
ਮਿਠਾਬੋਲਣੁਨਿਵਿਚਲਣੁਹਥਹੁਦੇਕੈਭਲਾਮਨਾਇਆ।
ਮਿੱਠਾ ਬੋਲਕੇ, ਨਿਉਂ ਚੱਲਕੇ, ਹਥੋਂ ਦੇਕੇ (ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ) ਭਲਾ ਮਨਾਇਆ ਹੈ।
They speak sweetly, move humbly and giving donations wish everybody well.
ਇਕਮਨਿਇਕੁਅਰਾਧਣਾਦੁਬਿਧਾਦੂਜਾਭਾਉਮਿਟਾਇਆ।
ਇਕ (ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ) ਨੂੰ (ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ) ਇਕ ਮਨ ਹੋਕੇ ਅਰਾਧਿਆ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਅਰ ਦੂਈ ਦਾ ਡਰ ਦੂਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।
Decimating their dubiety and sense of duality, they with single mind adore that One Lord.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸੁਖਫਲਨਿਜਪਦੁਪਾਇਆ।੪।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਦ (ਸ੍ਵਯੰ ਸਰੂਪ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋਕੇ ਸੁਖ ਰੂਪੀ ਫਲ ਪਾਇਆ ਹੈ।
Gurmukhs know themselves in the form of the fruit of delight and attain the supreme bliss.
ਪਉੜੀ੫
ਗੁਰਸਿਖੀਬਾਰੀਕਹੈਖੰਡੇਧਾਰਗਲੀਅਤਿਭੀੜੀ।
ਗੁਰਸਿੱਖੀ ਵੱਡੀ ਮਹੀਨ ਹੈ, ਖੰਡੇ ਦੀ ਧਾਰ ਵਾਂਙੂ ਤਿੱਖੀ ਤੇ ਤੰਗ ਗਲੀ ਹੈ।
The discipleship of the Guru is very subtle like a sword edge and narrow alley.
ਓਥੈਟਿਕੈਨਭੁਣਹਣਾਚਲਿਨਸਕੈਉਪਰਿਕੀੜੀ।
ਮੱਛਰ ਟਿਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ ਤੇ ਉਪਰ ਕੀੜੀ ਚੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੀ।
Mosquito’s and ants cannot stand there.
ਵਾਲਹੁਨਿਕੀਆਖੀਐਤੇਲੁਤਿਲਹੁਲੈਕੋਲ੍ਹੂਪੀੜੀ।
ਵਾਲ ਤੋਂ ਨਿੱਕੀ ਕ ਹੈ, (ਜਿੱਕੁਰ) ਕੋਲੂ ਵਿਖੇ ਤੇਲ ਤਿਲਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਲੈ ਪੀੜੀਦਾ ਹੈ।
It is thinner than hair and as the oil of sesame is obtained after crushing it in the crusher with great difficulty, the discipleship of the Guru is not obtained easily.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਵੰਸੀਪਰਮਹੰਸਖੀਰਨੀਰਨਿਰਨਉਚੁੰਜਿਵੀੜੀ।
ਜੋ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਵੰਸ ਹਨ (ਓਹ) ਪਰਮਹੰਸ ਹਨ ਦੁੱਧ ਤੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਨਿਤਾਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਚੁੰਝ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਦੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
Gurmukhs are descendants of swans and separate water from milk with their beak of thoughtfulness.
ਸਿਲਾਅਲੂਣੀਚਟਣੀਮਾਣਕਮੋਤੀਚੋਗਨਿਵੀੜੀ।
(ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ) ਅਲੂਣੀ ਸਿਲਾ ਚਟਣੀ ਹੈ, ਮਾਣਕ ਤੇ ਮੋਤੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਚੋਗ ਲੈਣੀ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ ਸੰਤ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਚੋਗ ਚੁਗਦੇ ਹਨ)।
Like licking of the salt-less stone they pick up the rubies and jewels to eat.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਮਾਰਗਿਚਲਣਾਆਸਨਿਰਾਸੀਝੀੜਉਝੀੜੀ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਚੱਲਣਾ ਤਾਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਦ ਸੂਖਮ ਤੇ ਸੂਖਮ ਬੀ ਆਸਾ ਤੋਂ ਨਿਰਾਸੀ (ਬੁਧ) ਹੋ ਜਾਵੇ, (ਭਾਵ ਰੰਚਕ ਬੀ ਆਸ ਨਾ ਫੁਰੇ)।
The gurmukhs repudiating all hopes and desires move on the way of detachment and tear down the veil of Maya.
ਸਹਜਿਸਰੋਵਰਿਸਚਖੰਡਿਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਸਚਤਖਤਿਹਰੀੜੀ।
ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਦਾ ਤਲਾਉ ਤੇ ਸੱਚਾ ਖੰਡ, ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਸੱਚਾ ਤਖਤ ਹੈ।
Holy congregation, the abode of truth and throne of the true Lord is the manasarovar for the gurmukhs.
ਚੜ੍ਹਿਇਕੀਹਪਤਿਪਉੜੀਆਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੁਗੁਰਸਬਦੁਸਹੀੜੀ।
(ਵੀਹ ਵਿਸਵੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡਕੇ) ਇਕੀਵੀਂ ਪਤ ਦੀ ਪੌੜੀ ਪੁਰ ਚੜ੍ਹਦੇ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਰੂਪ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ ਸਹੇੜਦੇ (ਧਾਰਦੇ ਜਾਂ ਸਹਾਰਦੇ ਹਨ)।
Climbing the steps of non-duality they adopt the Word of the formless Guru.
ਗੁੰਗੈਦੀਮਿਠਿਆਈਐਅਕਥਕਥਾਵਿਸਮਾਦੁਬਚੀੜੀ।
(੯) ਗੁੰਗੇ ਦੀ ਮਿਠਾਈ (ਵਾਂਙੂ ਉਸ ਆਨੰਦ ਨੂੰ ਓਹੀ ਲੋਕ ਜਾਣਦੇ) ਅਚਰਜ ਰੂਪ ਅਕਥ ਕਥਾ ਨੂੰ ਵਾਚਦੇ ਹਨ।
They enjoy His ineffable story like they enjoyment by a dumb person of the sweets.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸੁਖੁਫਲੁਸਹਜਿਅਲੀੜੀ।੫।
(੧੦) ਗੁਰਮੁਖ (ਆਤਮ ਸੁਖ ਦਾ) ਸੁਖ ਫਲ ਸਹਿਜੇ ਹੀ (ਅਲੀੜੀ=) ਲੈ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, (ਭਾਵ ਸ੍ਵਾਦਨ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ)।
Through the natural devotion, the gurmukhs attain the fruit of delight.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸੁਖਫਲਪਿਰਮਰਸੁਚਰਣੋਦਕੁਗੁਰਚਰਣਪਖਾਲੇ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਰੂਪ ਫਲ ਪਿਰੀ ਦਾ ਰਸ (ਸਮਝ ਕੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨ ਧੋਕੇ ਚਰਣਾਂਮ੍ਰਿਤ
Gurmukhs having the desire of the fruits of delight with all love wash the feet of the guru.
ਸੁਖਸੰਪੁਟਵਿਚਿਰਖਿਕੈਚਰਣਕਵਲਮਕਰੰਦਪਿਆਲੇ।
ਮੂੰਹ ਦੇ ਡਬੇ ਵਿਚ ਰਖਕੇ ਚਰਨ ਕਵਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਸਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਲੇ ਬਣਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ ਵਡੇ ਅਦਬ ਨਾਲ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ)।
They make cups of the nectar of lotus feet and quaff it with complete delight.
ਕਉਲਾਲੀਸੂਰਜਮੁਖੀਲਖਕਵਲਖਿੜਦੇਰਲੀਆਲੇ।
ਸੂਰਜ ਮੁਖੀ, ਕੌਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਮੂਹ (ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰ☬ਣ ਕਵਲ ਰੂਪ ਸੂਰਜ ਨੂੰ) ਦੇਖਕੇ ਖਿੜਦੇ ਤੇ ਖੁਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
Considering the feet of the Guru as sum they blossom like lotus.
ਚੰਦ੍ਰਮੁਖੀਹੁਇਕੁਮੁਦਨੀਚਰਣਕਵਲਸੀਤਲਅਮੀਆਲੇ।
ਚੰਦਰ ਮੁਖੀ ਕਵੀਆਂ (ਸਾਡੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ) ਚਰਣ ਕਮਲ ਨੂੰ ਸੀਤਲ (ਚੰਦਰਮਾਂ ਸਮਝਕੇ) ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਲੈਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ ਸੂਰਜ ਤੇ ਚੰਦਰਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਕੁੱਝ ਲੋੜ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ, ਸਿੱਖ ਸਿੱਖਣੀਆਂ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਣਾਂ ਪੁਰ ਮਗਨ ਹਨ)।
Again becoming water lily attracted towards moon, they enjoy nectar from the lotus feet.
ਚਰਣਕਵਲਦੀਵਾਸਨਾਲਖਸੂਰਜਹੋਵਨਿਭਉਰਕਾਲੇ।
(ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ) ਚਰਣਾਂ ਕਵਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਵਾਸ਼ਨਾਂ ਪੁਰ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਸੂਰਜ ਕਾਲੇ ਭੌਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਭਾਵ, ਤੇਜ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਹਾਰ ਸਕਦੇ ਅਥਵਾ ਭੌਰਿਆਂ ਵਾਂਙੂ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ)।
To have the fragrance of the lotus feet many suns become black bees.
ਲਖਤਾਰੇਸੂਰਜਿਚੜ੍ਹਿਜਿਉਛਪਿਜਾਣਿਨਆਪਸਮ੍ਹਾਲੇ।
ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸੂਰਜ ਚੜ੍ਹੇ ਤੋਂ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਤਾਰੇ ਛਿਪ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਆਪਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੰਮ੍ਰਾਲ ਸਕਦੇ।
Wen the sun rises, myriad stars, unable to maintain themselves, hide.
ਚਰਣਕਵਲਦਲਜੋਤਿਵਿਚਿਲਖਸੂਰਜਿਲੁਕਿਜਾਨਿਰਵਾਲੇ।
(ਤਿਵੇਂ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ) ਚਰਣ ਕਵਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੱਤ੍ਰ੍ਰ ਦੀ ਜੋਤ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਸੂਰਜ (ਰਵਾਲ=) ਧੂੜ ਵਾਂਙੂ ਲੁਕ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
Likewise with the light of petals of lotus feet, myriad suns are concealed.
ਗੁਰਸਿਖਲੈਗੁਰਸਿਖਸੁਖਾਲੇ।੬।
ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਿਖ੍ਯਾ ਲੈਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਸੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਹੋ ਗਏ।
Receiving the teaching of the Guru, the disciples have themselves become the house of all pleasures.
ਪਉੜੀ੭
ਚਾਰਿਵਰਨਿਇਕਵਰਨਕਰਿਵਰਨਅਵਰਨਤਮੋਲਗੁਲਾਲੇ।
ਚਾਰ ਵਰਣਾਂ (ਵਿਚੋਂ ਭਲੇ ਬੁਰੇ ਵਰਣ ਦੀ ਉਪਾਧਿ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡਕੇ) ਇਕ ਵਰਣ ਕੀਤਾ, (ਜਿਕੁਰ) ਪਾਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਬੀੜਾ (ਇਕ) ਗੁਲਾਲ ਪੋਸਤ ਦੇ ਫੁਲ ਵਾਂਙੂ ਲਾਲ ਰੰਗਤ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
As in betel leaf all the colours mix and become one red colour, likewise mixing all the varnas one Sikh has been created.
ਅਸਟਧਾਤੁਇਕੁਧਾਤੁਕਰਿਵੇਦਕਤੇਬਨਭੇਦੁਵਿਚਾਲੇ।
(ਪਾਰਸ) ਅੱਠਾਂ ਧਾਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਇਕ ਧਾਤ (ਸੋਨਾ) ਬਣਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਇਕੁਰ ਗੁਰ ਸ਼ਬਦ) ਵੇਦ ਕਤੇਬਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਭੇਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਖਦਾ, (ਭਾਵ ਲੱਖ੍ਯ ਵਲ ਬਿਰਤੀ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਰ ਬੇਦ ਕਤੇਬ ਉਪਾਸ਼ਕ ਸਭ ਨੂੰ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ)।
Eight metals mixing up make one metal (alloy); similarly there is no difference among Vedas and the Katebas (the Semitic scriptures).
ਚੰਦਨਵਾਸੁਵਣਾਸੁਪਤਿਅਫਲਸਫਲਵਿਚਿਵਾਸੁਬਹਾਲੇ।
ਚੰਦਨ ਵਾਸ਼ਨਾ ਵਾਲਾ ਬਣਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਅਫਲ ਤੇ ਫਲਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ (ਬ੍ਰਿੱਛਾਂ) ਵਿਖੇ (ਆਪਣੀ) ਵਾਸ਼ਨਾ ਵਾੜਦਾ ਹੈ (ਪਰ ਬਾਂਸ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ)।
The sandal perfumes the whole vegetation whether it is devoid of fruit or full of fruit.
ਲੋਹਾਸੁਇਨਾਹੋਇਕੈਸੁਇਨਾਹੋਇਸੁਗੰਧਿਵਿਖਾਲੇ।
ਲੋਹਾ (ਆਪ) ਸੋਨਾ ਬਣਕੇ ਫੇਰ ਸੋਨੇ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਗੰਧੀ ਦੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ (ਸੋਨਾ ਤੇ ਸੁਗੰਧੀ ਦੋ ਕੱਠੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੇ, ਪਰ ਨੀਚ ਜਾਤ ਦਾ ਲੋਹਾ ਰੂਪ ਆਦਮੀ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਸੋਨੇ ਵਾਂਙੂ ਕੀਮਤੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਪਰੁਪਕਾਰੀ ਰੂਪ ਉਸ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਗੰਧੀ ਵਸਦੀ ਹੈ।
Touching the philosopher’s stone, iron becoming gold, again points towards its further beauty (of making itself useful for the needy ones).
ਸੁਇਨੇਅੰਦਰਿਰੰਗਰਸਚਰਣਾਮਿਤਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁਮਤਵਾਲੇ।
(ਫੇਰ ਉਸ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ) ਸੋਨੇ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗ (ਨਾਮ ਦਾ) ਤੇ ਰਸ (ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦਾ) ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਣ ਜਲ ਰੂਪ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨੂੰ (ਪਾਨ ਕਰ ਜਗਤ ਵਲੋਂ) ਮਤਵਾਲੇ ਹੋ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
Then in gold in the form of gurmukh, the colour (of Name) and elixir (of love) enter and he becomes carefree of the world around.
ਮਾਣਕਮੋਤੀਸੁਇਨਿਅਹੁਜਗਮਗਜੋਤਿਹੀਰੇਪਰਵਾਲੇ।
(ਫੇਰ ਉਸ) ਸੋਨੇ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਮਾਣਕ ਆਦਿ ਹੀਰੇ ਤੇ ਮੁੰਗੇ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ਵਾਨ ਨਿਕਲਦੇ ਹਨ (ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਅੱਗੇ ਨਾਮ ਅਭਿਆਸੀ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਯਾ ਆਤਮ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਦੇ ਮੋਤੀ ਹੀਰੇ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
Now all the qualities of rubies, pearls, diamonds emerge in that gold-gurmukh.
ਦਿਬਦੇਹਦਿਬਦਿਸਟਿਹੋਇਸਬਦਸੁਰਤਿਦਿਬਜੋਤਿਉਜਾਲੇ।
(ਫਲ) ਦਿੱਬ ਦੇਹ ਤੇ ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਹੋਕੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਸੁਰਤ ਵਿਖੇ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਜੋਤੀ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Becoming divine body and divine sight the consciousness of gurmukh concentrates on the light of the divine Word.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸੁਖਫਲੁਰਸਿਕਰਸਾਲੇ।੭।
Thus, adopting the delight of devotion, the gurmukhs become full of many delights.
ਪਉੜੀ੮
ਗੁਰਮੁਖ (ਲੋਕ) ਆਤਮ ਸੁਖ ਫਲ ਦੇ ਮਨੋਂ ਤਨੋਂ ਪ੍ਰੇਮੀ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਪਿਰਮਪਿਆਲਾਸਾਧਸੰਗਸਬਦਸੁਰਤਿਅਨਹਦਲਿਵਲਾਈ।
ਪਿਰੀ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਲਾ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ (ਵਿਚ ਪੀ ਕਰਕੇ) ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਸੁਰਤ ਵਿਚ ਇਕ ਰਸ ਲਿਵ ਲਾ ਛੱਡਦੇ ਹਨ।
Quaffing the cup of love in the holy congregation, the Sikhs of Guru absorb their consciousness in the Word.
ਧਿਆਨੀਚੰਦਚਕੋਰਗਤਿਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿਵਰਸਾਈ।
ਚੰਦ ਦੇ (ਧਿਆਨ ਵਿਚ)ਚਕੋਰ ਵਾਂਙੂੰ ਧਿਆਨੀ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟਿ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਵਸਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਭਾਵ ਅੰਗਾਰਾ ਬੀ ਸੀਤਲ ਭਾਸਦਾ ਹੈ)।
As the bird chakor meditates on moon to enjoy cool, from their sight also pours the nectar.
ਘਨਹਰਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕਮੋਰਜਿਉਅਨਹਦਧੁਨਿਸੁਣਿਪਾਇਲਪਾਈ।
ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕ (ਵਾਙੂੰ ਸ੍ਵਾਂਤੀ ਬੂੰਦ ਮੰਗਦੇ ਹਨ) ਤੇ ਮੋਰ ਵਾਂਙੂੰ ਬੱਦਲ ਦੀ ਅਨਹਦ ਧੁਨੀ ਸੁਣਕੇ ਪਾਇਲਾਂ ਪਾਉਂਦੇ (ਅਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੁੰਦੇ) ਹਨ।
Listening to the roar of clouds they dance like rain bird and peacock.
ਚਰਣਕਵਲਮਕਰੰਦਰਸਿਸੁਖਸੰਪੁਟਹੁਇਭਵਰੁਸਮਾਈ।
ਚਰਣ ਕਵਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਕਰੰਦ ਦਾ (ਸਵਾਦ ਲੈਣ ਲਈ) ਭੌਰੇ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਸੁਖ ਦੇ ਡੱਬੇ ਵਿਚ ਸਮਾ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਮਗਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ)।
To taste the nectar of the lotus feet they turn themselves into the black bee and become one with the storehouse of delight (of the Lord).
ਸੁਖਸਾਗਰਵਿਚਿਮੀਨਹੋਇਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਚਾਲਿਨਖੋਜਖੁਜਾਈ।
ਸੁਖਾਂ ਰੂਪ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਖੇ ਮੱਛੀ (ਵਾਂਙੂੰ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ) ਹਨ, ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਚਾਲ ਤੇ ਖੋਜ ਦਾ ਪਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਗਦਾ (ਸਤਿਸੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿਕੇ ਬੀ ਜਣਾਉਂਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ)।
The way of the gurmukhs is not known to anybody; similar to fish they live in the ocean of happiness.
ਅਪਿਓਪੀਅਣੁਨਿਝਰਝਰਣਅਜਰੁਜਰਣਨਅਲਖੁਲਖਾਈ।
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਪੀਂਦੇ ਝਰਣੇ ਝਰਦੇ 'ਅਜਰ' ਜਰਦੇ (ਫੇਰ) ਅਲਖ ਹਨ ਲਖੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦੇ (ਇਹ ਕਿ ਆਪ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਪੀ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਪੁਰ ਬੀ ਝਰਦੇ ਹਨ)।
They drink nectar; from them gush forth the springs of nectar; they assimilate the unbearable but still they do not make them noticed by any one.
ਵੀਹਇਕੀਹਉਲੰਘਿਕੈਗੁਰਸਿਖਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸੁਖਫਲੁਪਾਈ।
('ਵੀਹ' ਵਿਸਵੇ) ਤ੍ਰੈਗੁਣ ਤੇ (ਇਕੀਹ) ਤੁਰੀਆ ਪਦ ਥੋਂ ਲੰਘਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਕੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਮੁਖ ਦਾ ਫਲ (ਅਰਥਾਤ ਯਥਾਰਥ ਦਾ ਫਲ) ਪਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
Going across all the stages (of three-dimensional nature-prakarti) they attain the fruits of delights.
ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂਵਡੀਵਡਿਆਈ।੮।
ਧੰਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਹੈ ਉਸੇ ਦੀ ਵਡੀ ਸ਼ੋਭਾ ਹੈ।
Wondrous is the Vaheguru whose greatness is grand.

ਕਛੂਆਂਡਾਧਿਆਨੁਧਰਿਕਰਿਪਰਪਕੁਨਦੀਵਿਚਿਆਣੈ।
ਕੱਛੂਕੁੰਮਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਡੇ (ਰੇਤ ਵਿਚ ਦੱਬਕੇ) ਧਿਆਨ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਪਾਲਕੇ ਨਦੀ ਵਿਖੇ ਲੈ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Tortoise lays its eggs in the sands but having full care of them on their maturity, it brings them into the river.
ਕੂੰਜਰਿਦੈਸਿਮਰਣੁਕਰੈਲੈਬੱਚਾਉਡਦੀਅਸਮਾਣੈ।
ਕੂੰਜ ਭੀ ਰਿਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਯਾਦਗੀਰੀ ਨਾਲ (ਪਾਲਕੇ) ਅਸਮਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਬੱਚਾ ਲੈ ਉਡਦੀ ਹੈ।
The florican also under its full care makes its off spring fly in the sky.
ਬਤਕਬੱਚਾਤੁਰਿਤੁਰੈਜਲਥਲਵਰਤੈਸਹਜਿਵਿਡਾਣੈ।
ਬੱਤਖ ਦਾ ਬੱਚਾ ਥਲ ਵਿਚ ਤੁਰਕੇ ਜਲ ਵਿਚ ਤਰਕੇ ਸੁਭਾਵਕ ਹੀ ਅਚਰਜ (ਕ੍ਰੀੜਾ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ) ਹੈ।
The swan also in its very natural way teaches its young ones to move on water as well as on earth.
ਕੋਇਲਪਾਲੈਕਾਵਣੀਮਿਲਦਾਜਾਇਕੁਟੰਬਿਸਿਞਾਣੈ।
ਕੋਇਲ ਦੇ ਬੱਚੇ ਕਾਂਵਣੀ ਪਾਲਦੀ ਹੈ (ਜਦ ਵਡੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਬੋਲੀ) ਸਿਾਣਕੇ ਕੁਟੰਬ ਵਿਚ ਜਾ ਮਿਲਦੇ ਹਨ।

ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਕਾਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਤੇ ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਭਵਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੋਝੀ (ਹੋਕੇ ਬੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ) ਮਾਣ ਥੋਂ ਨਿਰਮਾਣ (ਹੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ) ਹਨ।
The Sikh now knows the future, present and past but he gets honours by becoming humble.

(ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੀ) ਜਾਤ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਹੈ, (ਪਰ) ਲੋਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦੇ (ਅਥਵਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੁੰਦਰਤਾ 'ਜਾਤੀ' ਕੁਦਰਤੀ ਹੈ।

ਚੰਦਨਵਾਸੁਵਣਾਸਪਤਿਬਾਵਨਚੰਦਨਿਚੰਦਨੁਹੋਈ।
ਚੰਦਨਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਜੋ ਬਾਵਨ ਚੰਦਨ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਚੰਦਨ ਦੀ ਵਾਸ ਨਾਲ (ਸਾਰੀ) ਵਣਾਸਪਤੀ (ਚੰਦਨ) ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
With the fragrance of sandalwood the whole vegetation becomes sandal.
ਫਲਵਿਣੁਚੰਦਨੁਬਾਵਨਾਆਦਿਅਨਾਦਿਬਿਅੰਤੁਸਦੋਈ।
(ਆਪ) ਬਾਵਨ ਚੰਦਨ ਫਲਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਸਦਾ ਤੋਂ ਅਮੋਲਕ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Though itself the sandal is without fruit but it is always considered as costly.
ਚੰਦਨੁਬਾਵਨਚੰਦਨਹੁਚੰਦਨਵਾਸੁਨਚੰਦਨੁਕੋਈ।
ਬਾਵਨ ਚੰਦਨ ਤੋਂ (ਜੋ) ਚੰਦਨ (ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ) ਚੰਦਨ ਦੀ ਵਾਸ਼ਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਚੰਦਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ। (ਪਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਣੇ ਹੋਏ ਸਿਖ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪ ਸਮਾਨ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ)।
But the plant, which becomes sandal through the fragrance of sandal, cannot make any other plant sandal.
ਅਸਟੁਧਾਤੁਇਕੁਧਾਤੁਹੋਇਪਾਰਸਪਰਸੇਕੰਚਨੁਜੋਈ।
ਅੱਠਾਂ ਧਾਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਇਕ ਧਾਤ (ਲੋਹਾ ਹੋ ਕੇ) ਜਿਹੜਾ ਪਾਰਸ ਨੂੰ ਛੁਹਕੇ ਸੋਨਾ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ (ਫਲ ਅੱਗੇ ਦਸਦੇ ਹਨ)।
Eight metals touching the philosopher’s stone becomes gold but that gold cannot produce further gold.
ਕੰਚਨਹੋਇਨਕੰਚਨਹੁਵਰਤਮਾਨਵਰਤੈਸਭਿਲੋਈ।
(ਉਸ) ਕੰਚਨ ਥੋਂ ਹੋਰ (ਲੋਹਾ) ਛੁਹਕੇ ਕੰਚਨ ਨਹੀਂ (ਬਣਦਾ; ਇਹ) ਵਰਤਮਾਨ ਗੱਲ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਰਤ ਰਹੀ (ਪ੍ਰਸਿੱਧ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਹੋਰ ਜਾਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਆਪ ਸਮਾਨ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ)।
All this is performed in the present only (but the Sikh of Guru makes many like himself; they further become competent to transform others into a Sikh way of life).
ਨਦੀਆਨਾਲੇਗੰਗਸੰਗਿਸਾਗਰਸੰਗਮਿਖਾਰਾਸੋਈ।

Rivers, streams and even the Ganges become brackish in the company of ocean.

ਬਗਲਾ ਭਾਵ (ਮਨਮੁਖ) ਹੰਸ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣੂੰ (ਭਾਵੇਂ) ਮਾਨ ਸਰੋਵਰ ਪੁਰ ਜਾ ਖਲੋਵੇ।
The crane never becomes swan even if it sits at Manasarovar.
ਵੀਹਾਂਦੈਵਰਤਾਰੈਓਈ।੧੦।
(ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ) ਓਹ (ਮਨਮੁਖ ਲੋਕ) ਵੀਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਰਤਾਰੇ ਵਿਚ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਖੇ ਫਸੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ)।
It so happens because an ordinary person remains always involved in the counts of twenties and more i.e. money.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਇਕੀਹਪਉੜੀਆਂਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸੁਖਫਲੁਨਿਜਘਰਿਭੋਈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਇੱਕੀ (ਤੁਰੀਆ ਪਦ ਦੀਆਂ) ਪੌੜੀਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਹੋਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਵਾਰੇ ਨਿਜ ਸਰੂਪ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
Crossing the stairs of identities, the gurmukh under the guidance of the Guru comes to reside in his own true nature.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਹੈਸਹਜਘਰਿਸਿਮਰਣੁਦਰਸਿਪਰਸਿਗੁਣਗੋਈ।
ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਦਾ ਘਰ ਹੈ, (ਈਸ਼੍ਵਰ ਦੇ) ਸਿਮਰਨ, ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਤੇ ਪਰਸਨ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
Holy congregation, the source of remembrance of the Lord, His sight and touch, is the abode of equipoise.
ਲੋਹਾਸੁਇਨਾਹੋਇਕੈਸੁਇਨਿਅਹੁਸੁਇਨਾਜਿਉਂਅਵਿਲੋਈ।
ਲੋਹਾ (ਪਾਰਸ ਨਾਲ ਛੁਹਕੇ) ਸੋਨਾ ਹੋਕੇ ਸੋਨੇ ਦੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੀ ਦੇਖੀਦਾ ਹੈ।
Holy congregation is such a gold whose ingredients i.e. people therein, once known fir their qualities of iron have now become gold and are seen as gold.
ਚੰਦਨੁਬੋਹੈਨਿੰਮੁਵਣੁਨਿੰਮਹੁਚੰਦਨੁਬਿਰਖੁਪਲੋਈ।
ਨਿੰਮ ਦਾ ਬੂਟਾ ਬਨ ਵਿਚ ਚੰਦਨ ਤੋਂ ਪਲਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਫੇਰ ਉਹ) ਨਿੰਮ ਦਾ ਬੂਟਾ ਚੰਦਨ ਹੀ ਹੋ ਮਹਿਕਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਗੰਗੋਦਕਚਰਣੋਦਕਹੁਗੰਗੋਦਕਮਿਲਿਗੰਗਾਹੋਈ।
ਗੰਗਾ ਦਾ ਪਾਣੀ ਚਰਣਾਂਮ੍ਰਿਤੋਂ ਗੰਗੋਦਕ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਕੇ (ਫੇਰ) ਗੰਗਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Water made dirty by feet also becomes pure when it meets the Ganges.
ਕਾਗਹੁਹੰਸੁਸੁਵੰਸੁਹੋਇਹੰਸਹੁਪਰਮਹੰਸੁਵਿਰਲੋਈ।
ਕਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਚੰਗੀ ਵੰਸ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੰਸ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਹੰਸ ਥੋਂ ਪਰਮਹੰਸ (ਕੋਈ) ਵਿਰਲਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Any crow of good breed may become swan but rare is the swan, which becomes supreme swan of rare and highest order.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਵੰਸੀਪਰਮਹੰਸੁਕੂੜੁਸਚੁਨੀਰੁਖੀਰੁਵਿਲੋਈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਪੀਹੜੀ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਹੰਸ ਹੋਕੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਤੇ ਦੁੱਧ ਨੂੰ ਰਿੜਕਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤਤ ਮਿੱਥਯਾ ਦਾ ਵਿਵੇਚਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ)।
Born in the family of gurmukh is the paramhans (man of highest spiritual order), who separate milk and water of truth and falsehood by his discerning wisdom.
ਗੁਰਚੇਲਾਚੇਲਾਗੁਰਹੋਈ।੧੧।
ਜੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਚੇਲਾ (ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ) ਚੇਲਿਓਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
(In the holy congregation) the disciple is the Guru and the Guru (most humbly) becomes disciple.

ਕਛੂਬੱਚਾਨਦੀਵਿਚਿਗੁਰਸਿਖਲਹਰਿਨਭਵਜਲੁਬਿਆਪੈ।
ਕੱਛੂ ਬੱਚੇ (ਵਾਂਙੂ) ਨਦੀ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਿਖ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਦੀ ਲਹਿਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਿਆਪਦੀ (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਕੱਛੂ ਹਿਮਾਯਤ ਰਖਦਾ ਹੈ)।
As the offspring of tortoise are not affected by sea waves so is the case of the Sikhs of Guru; they are not influenced by the waves of the World Ocean.
ਕੂੰਜਬੱਚਾਲੈਇਉਡਰੈਸੁੰਨਿਸਮਾਧਿਅਗਾਧਿਨਜਾਪੈ।
ਕੂੰਜ ਬੱਚੇ ਨੂੰ ਲੈ ਕੇ (ਸੁੰਨ ਸਮਾਧਿ) ਡੂੰਘੇ ਆਕਾਸ਼ਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਬੇ-ਮਾਲੂਮ ਉਡਦੀ ਹੈ।
Florican bird flies comfortably along with its offspring in the sky but the sky does not look abysmal to it.

ਕੋਇਲ ਬੱਚੇ (ਨੂੰ ਕਾਵਣੀ ਦੇ ਆਹਲਣਿਓਂ ਕੱਢਕੇ ਅੰਬਾਂ ਪੁਰ ਜਾਦੀ ਹੈ) ਤੇ ਬੱਤਕ (ਬੱਚੇ ਨੂੰ ਮੁਰਗੀਆਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਅਲੱਗ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਨਦੀ ਵਿਖੇ, ਜਿਵੇਂ) ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨ (ਗੋਪਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪਲਕੇ) ਵਾਸਦੇਵ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਸੀ (ਤਿਵੇਂ ਸਿਖ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ਕੁਸੰਗਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਨਿਕਲਕੇ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ)।
The goose and nightingale separate their progeny from hens and crows respectively and though living among milkman Krishna ultimately went to Vasudev; likewise, the gurmukh giving up all the evil propensities goes to merge in the holy congregation.

ਸੂਰਜ ਨਾਲ ਚਕਵੀ ਅਤੇ ਚੰਦ੍ਰ੍ਰਮਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਚਕੋਰ (ਵਾਂਙੂ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ) ਸ਼ਿਵ ਤੇ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਦੇ ਵਰ ਸਰਾਫਾਂ ਥੋਂ ਲੰਘ ਗਏ ਹਨ, (ਕਿਸੇ ਦੇਵ ਦੇਵੀ ਦੀ ਪਰਵਾਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਰੱਖਦੇ)।
As the female ruddy sheldrake and redlegged partridge meet sun and moon respectively gurmukh also crossing the maya of Siva and Sakti attains the highest state of equipoise.
ਅਨਲਪੰਖਿਬੱਚਾਮਿਲੈਨਿਰਾਧਾਰਹੋਇਸਮਝੈਆਪੈ।
ਅਨਲ ਪੰਖੀ ਨੂੰ ਬੱਚਾ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਨਿਰਾਧਾਰ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਬੀ ਆਪਣੇ (ਪਿਤਾ ਨੂੰ) ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ।
The anal bird recognises its offspring even without any basis for its identification.
ਗੁਰਸਿਖਸੰਧਿਮਿਲਾਵਣੀਸਬਦੁਸੁਰਤਿਪਰਚਾਇਪਛਾਪੈ।
ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਸਿੱਖ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ (ਮੇਲਾਵੜੀ)ਹਿਤ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ, ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਸੁਰਤ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਨੂੰ (ਸਿੱਖ) ਪਛਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ।

ਪੋਪਟ (ਜਾਤਿ ਵਾਲਾ) ਤਾਰੂ (ਨਾਮੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ) ਨੇ ਤਾਰਿਆ, ਇਹ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਬਾਲ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਉਦਾਸੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਸੀ।
