ਖ਼ੁਦਾਵੰਦਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਿੰਦਹਹਰਯਕਅਮਾ॥੨॥
ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹਰ ਇਕ ਦਾਤ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਅਤੇ ਸੁਖ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
He keeps us all away from afflictions.(2)
ਹਿਕਾਯਤਸ਼ੁਨੀਦੇਮਸ਼ਾਹੇਅਜ਼ੀਮ॥
ਮੈਂ ਇਕ ਵੱਡੇ ਬਾਦਸ਼ਾਹ ਦੀ ਕਹਾਣੀ ਸੁਣੀ ਹੈ,
Now listen to the Tale of King Azam,
ਕਿਹੁਸਨਲਜਮਾਲਅਸਤੁਸਾਹਿਬਕਰੀਮ॥੩॥
ਜੋ ਬਹੁਤ ਖ਼ੂਬਸੂਰਤ ਅਤੇ ਦਾਨੀ ਸੀ ॥੩॥
Who was magnanimous and compassionate.(3)
ਕਿਸੂਰਤਜਮਾਲਅਸਤੁਹੁਸਨਲਤਮਾਮ॥
ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੂਰਤ ਬਹੁਤ ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪ ਵਾਲੀ ਅਤੇ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਸੀ।
With perfect posture, his countenance radiated.
ਹਮਹਰੋਜ਼ਆਸ਼ਾਯਸ਼ੇਰੋਦਜਾਮ॥੪॥
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਾਰਾ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਗ ਸੁਣਨ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਰਾਬ ਪੀਣ ਵਿਚ ਬਤੀਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਸੀ ॥੪॥
Whole day he used to spend listening to the musical renderings of Ragas, and quaffing cups of wine.(4)
ਕਿਸਰਹੰਗਦਾਨਸ਼ਜਿਫ਼ਰਜ਼ਾਨਗੀ॥
ਉਹ ਬਹੁਤ ਬਹਾਦਰ, ਬੁੱਧੀਮਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਵਾਲਾ ਸੀ।
He was renown for his wisdom,
ਕਿਅਜ਼ਮਸਲਿਹਤਮੌਜਮਰਦਾਨਗੀ॥੫॥
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਰੀਰ ਉਤੇ ਮਰਦਾਨਗੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਲਹਿਰਾਂ ਉਠਦੀਆਂ ਸਨ ॥੫॥
And was famous for magnanimity of his bravery.(5)
ਵਜ਼ਾਬਾਨੂਏਹਮਚੁਮਾਹੇਜਵਾ॥
ਉਸ ਦੀ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਪੂਰਨਮਾਸ਼ੀ ਦੇ ਚੰਦ੍ਰਮਾ ਵਰਗੀ ਜਵਾਨ ਸੀ।
He had a moon-like pretty wife,
ਕਿਕੁਰਬਾਸ਼ਵਦਹਰਕਸੇਨਾਜ਼ਦਾ॥੬॥
ਖ਼ੂਬਸੂਰਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹਰ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਸੀ ॥੬॥
The people admired the exquisiteness of his preference.(6)
ਕਿਖ਼ੁਸ਼ਰੰਗਖ਼ੁਸ਼ਖ਼ੋਇਓਖ਼ੁਸ਼ਜਮਾਲ॥
ਉਹ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਰੰਗ ਵਾਲੀ, ਚੰਗੇ ਸੁਭਾ ਵਾਲੀ ਅਤੇ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਸਰੂਪ ਵਾਲੀ ਸੀ।
She was very beautiful and possessed sober temperament with captivating features.
ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ਆਵਾਜ਼ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ਖ਼੍ਵਾਰਗੀਖ਼ੁਸ਼ਖ਼ਿਯਾਲ॥੭॥
ਉਸ ਦੀ ਆਵਾਜ਼ ਮਧੁਰ, ਖਾਣਾ ਪੀਣਾ ਸਾਫ਼ ਸੁਥਰਾ ਅਤੇ ਚੰਗੇ ਵਿਚਾਰਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਸੀ ॥੭॥
Also she enjoyed sweat voice, dressed herself profusely, and was chaste in her thought.(7)
ਬਦੀਦਨਕਿਖ਼ੁਸ਼ਖ਼ੋਇਖ਼ੂਬੀਜਹਾ॥
ਉਹ ਵੇਖਣ ਵਿਚ ਸੋਹਣੀ, ਚੰਗੇ ਸੁਭਾ ਵਾਲੀ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਖ਼ੂਬਸੂਰਤ ਸੀ।
ਜ਼ਿਹਰਫ਼ਾਤਕਰਦਨਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੋਖ਼ੁਸ਼ਜ਼ੁਬਾ॥੮॥
ਗੱਲਬਾਤ ਕਰਨ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਲਝੀ ਹੋਈ ਅਤੇ ਮਿਠਬੋਲੀ ਸੀ ॥੮॥
ਦੁਪਿਸਰਸ਼ਅਜ਼ਾਬੂਦਚੂੰਸ਼ਮਸ਼ਮਾਹ॥
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਦੋ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸੂਰਜ ਅਤੇ ਚੰਦ੍ਰਮਾ ਵਰਗੇ ਸਨ।
She had two sons, called Sun and Moon.
ਕਿਰੌਸ਼ਨਤਬੀਯਤਹਕੀਕਤਗਵਾਹ॥੯॥
ਉਹ ਚੰਗੇ ਸੁਭਾ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਚ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਖਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਨ ॥੯॥
Intellectually content, they always aspired for the truth.(9)
ਕਿਗੁਸਤਾਖ਼ਦਸਤਅਸਤਚਾਲਾਕਜੰਗ॥
ਉਹ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਹੱਥ ਦੇ ਬੜੇ ਚੁਸਤ ਅਤੇ ਜੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਵਧਾਨ ਸਨ।
Being very fast in their hand movements, they were clever in fights.
ਬਵਕਤੇਤਰਦਦਚੁਸ਼ੇਰੋਨਿਹੰਗ॥੧੦॥
ਜੰਗ ਵੇਲੇ (ਵੈਰੀਆਂ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ) ਸ਼ੇਰ ਅਤੇ ਮਗਰਮੱਛ ਵਾਂਗ ਡਟ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਸਨ ॥੧੦॥
They were like the roaring lions and vicious like crocodiles.(10)
ਦੁਪੀਲਅਫ਼ਕਨੋਹਮਚੁਸ਼ੇਰਅਫ਼ਕਨਅਸਤ॥
ਉਹ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਹਾਥੀ ਨੂੰ ਢਾਹਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ੇਰ ਨੂੰ ਡਿਗਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਨ।
Those lion-hearted could subdue the elephants,
ਬਵਕਤੇਵਗਾਸ਼ੇਰਰੋਈਂਤਨਅਸਤ॥੧੧॥
ਜੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਉਹ ਲੋਹੇ ਦੇ ਸ਼ੇਰ ਵਰਗੇ ਸਨ ॥੧੧॥
And during the wars they became embodiment of steel.(11)
ਯਕੇਖ਼ੂਬਰੋਇਓਦਿਗ਼ਰਤਨਚੁਸੀਮ॥
ਇਕ ਤਾਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੂਰਤ ਬਹੁਤ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਦੂਜੇ (ਦੋਹਾਂ ਦੇ) ਸ਼ਰੀਰ ਚਾਂਦੀ ਵੰਨੇ ਸਨ।
Not only they had attractive features, their bodies gleamed like silver.
ਦੁਸੂਰਤਸਜ਼ਾਵਾਰਆਜ਼ਮਅਜ਼ੀਮ॥੧੨॥
ਦੋਹਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਸੂਰਤਾਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਸ਼ੋਭਾਸ਼ਾਲੀ ਸਨ ॥੧੨॥
Both the figures called for highest acclaims.(12)
ਵਜ਼ਾਮਾਦਰੇਬਰਕਸਆਸੁਫ਼ਤਹਗਸ਼ਤ॥
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਾਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਆਦਮੀ ਉਤੇ ਮੋਹਿਤ ਹੋ ਗਈ।
Their mother fell in love with a stranger,
ਚੁਮਰਦਸਤਗੁਲਹਮਚੁਨੀਗੁਲਪ੍ਰਸਤ॥੧੩॥
ਉਹ ਆਦਮੀ ਫੁਲ ਵਰਗਾ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਫੁਲ ਦੀ ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਸੀ ॥੧੩॥
Because that man was like a flower, and their mother was in search of such a flower.(13)
ਸ਼ਬੰਗਾਹਦਰਖ਼ਾਬਗਾਹਆਮਦੰਦ॥
ਰਾਤ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ (ਇਸਤਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਮਰਦ) ਸੌਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਥਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਆਏ
They had just come into their sleeping chamber,
ਕਿਜ਼ੋਰਾਵਰਾਦਰਨਿਗਾਹਆਮਦੰਦ॥੧੪॥
ਤਾਂ ਉਸ (ਮਰਦ) ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਬਲਵਾਨ ਲੜਕਿਆਂ ਉਤੇ ਪਈ ॥੧੪॥
When they caught sight of both the undaunted ones.(14)
ਬੁਖ਼ਾਦੰਦਪਸਪੇਸ਼ਖ਼ੁਰਦੋਕਲਾ॥
ਉਸ ਔਰਤ ਨੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਅਤੇ ਛੋਟੇ ਦੋਹਾਂ (ਪੁੱਤਰਾਂ) ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਾਸ ਬੁਲਾਇਆ
They (their mother and her lover) called in both the younger and older one,
ਮਯੋਰੋਦਰਾਮਸ਼ਗਿਰਾਰਾਹੁਮਾ॥੧੫॥
ਅਤੇ ਸੰਗੀਤ ਸੁਣਾ ਕੇ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਰਾਬ ਪਿਲਾ ਕੇ ਬੇਸੁੱਧ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ॥੧੫॥
And entertained them with wine and music through the Raga Singers.(15)
ਬਿਦਾਨਿਸਤਕਿਅਜ਼ਮਸਤੀਯਸ਼ਮਸਤਗਸ਼ਤ॥
ਜਦ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਕਿ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਬੇਹੋਸ਼ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ
When she realised that they were absolutely intoxicated,
ਬਿਜ਼ਦਤੇਗ਼ਖ਼ੁਦਦਸਤਹਰਦੋਸ਼ਿਕਸਤ॥੧੬॥
ਤਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਤਲ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ॥੧੬॥
She stood up and cut their heads with the sword.(16)
ਬਿਜ਼ਦਹਰਦੋਦਸਤਸ਼ਸਰੇਖ਼ੇਸ਼ਜ਼ੋਰ॥
ਫਿਰ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਹੱਥ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ ਮਾਰੇ
Then she started to beat her head with both her hands,
ਬਜੁੰਬਸ਼ਦਰਾਮਦਬਕਰਦੰਦਸ਼ੋਰ॥੧੭॥
ਅਤੇ ਗੁੱਸੇ ਨਾਲ ਭਰ ਕੇ ਰੌਲਾ ਪਾਣਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ॥੧੭॥
And began to tremble and shout very loudly,(17)
ਬਿਗੋਯਦਕਿਏਮੁਸਲਮਾਨਾਨਪਾਕ॥
ਉਸ ਨੇ (ਉਥੇ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਹੋਇਆਂ) ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ ਹੇ ਪਾਕ ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨੋਂ! (ਵੇਖੋ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਕੀ ਵਾਪਰਿਆ ਹੈ)।
She shouted, ‘Oh, you the pious Muslims,
ਚਿਰਾਚੂੰਕਿਕੁਸ਼ਤੀਅਜ਼ੀਜਾਮਹਚਾਕ॥੧੮॥
(ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਪੁਛਿਆ) ਕਿ ਕਿਸ ਨੇ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਤਲ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਸ ਨੇ ਕਪੜੇ ਲੀਰੋ ਲੀਰ ਕੀਤੇ ਹਨ ॥੧੮॥
‘How they have cut each other like the scissors cut the clothes?(18)
ਬਿਖ਼ੁਰਦੰਦਮਯਹਰਦੁਆਂਮਸਤਗਸ਼ਤ॥
ਉਸ (ਇਸਤਰੀ) ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਸ਼ਰਾਬ ਪੀਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਮਸਤ ਹੋ ਗਏ
‘Both of them drenched themselves in wine,
ਗਿਰਫ਼ਤੰਦਸ਼ਮਸ਼ੇਰਪੌਲਾਦਦਸਤ॥੧੯॥
ਅਤੇ) (ਫਿਰ) ਫ਼ੌਲਾਦੀ ਤਲਵਾਰਾਂ ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ ਪਕੜ ਲਈਆਂ ॥੧੯॥
‘And took the swords in their hands,(19)
ਕਿਈਂਰਾਬਿਜ਼ਦਆਂਬਈਆਂਜਦੰਦ॥
ਉਸ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਿਆ।
‘One hit the other and, right in front of my eyes,
ਬਦੀਦਹਮਰਾਹਰਦੁਈਂਕੁਸ਼ਤਹਅੰਦ॥੨੦॥
ਇਉਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਵੇਖਦੇ ਹੋਇਆਂ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਕਤਲ ਹੋ ਗਏ ॥੨੦॥
they murdered each other.(20)
ਦਰੇਗਾਮਰਾਜਾਜ਼ਿਮੀਹਮਨਦਾਦ॥
ਅਫ਼ਸੋਸ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਧਰਤੀ ਵੀ ਥਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੰਦੀ (ਨਹੀਂ ਤਾਂ ਇਸੇ ਵਿਚ ਗ਼ਰਕ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ)
‘Hai, why didn’t earth give way to obscure myself in there,
ਨਦਹਲੀਜ਼ਦੋਜ਼ਖ਼ਮਰਾਰਹਕੁਸ਼ਾਦ॥੨੧॥
ਨਾ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਲਈ ਨਰਕ ਦਾ ਦੁਆਰ ਖੁਲ੍ਹਾ ਹੈ ॥੨੧॥
‘Even the door of the hell has been closed for me.(21)
ਦੁਚਸ਼ਮੇਮਰਾਈਂਚਿਗਰਦੀਦਈਂ॥
ਮੇਰੀਆਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਵੇਖਦੇ ਹੋਇਆਂ ਇਹ ਕੀ ਵਾਪਰ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ
‘Down with my eyes,
ਕਿਈਂਦੀਦਹੇਖ਼ੂਨਈਂਦੀਦਈਂ॥੨੨॥
ਕਿ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਖ਼ੂਨ ਹੁੰਦਿਆਂ ਖ਼ੁਦ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੨੨॥
‘The eyes which were watching when they killed each other.(22)
ਬਿਹਜ਼ਮਨਤਨੇਤਰਕਦੁਨੀਯਾਕੁਨਮ॥
ਮੇਰੇ ਲਈ ਹੁਣ ਇਹੀ ਵਾਜਬ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਸ਼ਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਤਿਆਗ ਕੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਤੋਂ ਚਲੀ ਜਾਵਾਂ
‘You (my boys) abandoned this world,
ਫ਼ਕੀਰੇਸ਼ਵਮਮੁਲਕਚੀਂਮੇਰਵਮ॥੨੩॥
ਜਾਂ ਫ਼ਕੀਰਨੀ ਬਣ ਕੇ ਇਸ ਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਨਿਕਲ ਜਾਵਾਂ ॥੨੩॥
‘I will, now, become an ascetic and go to the Country of China.’(23)
ਬਿਗ਼ੁਫਤਈਂਸੁਖ਼ਨਰਾਕੁਨਦਜਾਮਹਚਾਕ॥
ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਕਹਿ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਬਸਤ੍ਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਫਾੜ ਦਿੱਤਾ
Pronouncing thus, she tore off her clothes,
ਰਵਾਸ਼ੁਦਸੂਏਦਸਤਖ਼ਤਚਾਕਚਾਕ॥੨੪॥
ਅਤੇ ਝਟਪਟ ਜੰਗਲ ਵਲ ਤੁਰ ਪਈ ॥੨੪॥
And proceeded towards the bewilderment.(24)
ਕਿਓਜਾਬਦੀਦੰਦਖ਼ੁਸ਼ਖ਼ਾਬਗਾਹ॥
ਉਸ ਨੇ ਜੰਗਲ ਵਿਚ ਜਾ ਕੇ (ਇਕ) ਸੋਹਣੀ ਜਿਹੀ ਸੌਣ ਦੀ ਥਾਂ ਵੇਖੀ।
She went to a location where there was restful place.
ਨਿਸ਼ਸਤਹਅਸਤੁਬਰਗਾਉਬਾਜ਼ਨਚੁਮਾਹ॥੨੫॥
ਉਥੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਇਕ ਚੰਦ੍ਰਮਾ ਵਰਗੀ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਮਰਦ ਨੂੰ ਬਲਦ ਉਤੇ ਸਵਾਰ ਹੋਇਆ ਵੇਖਿਆ ॥੨੫॥
There, on the back of a bullock, she saw Shiva, along with women as pretty as the moon.(25)
ਬਪੁਰਸ਼ੀਦਓਰਾਕਿਏਨੇਕਜ਼ਨ॥
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪੁਛਿਆ ਕਿ ਐ ਨੇਕ ਇਸਤਰੀ!
He asked her, ‘Oh, you the kind woman,
