ਹਿਕਾਯਤਸ਼ੁਨੀਦੇਮਸ਼ਾਹੇਫ਼ਿਰੰਗ॥
ਫ਼ਿਰੰਗ ਦੇਸ਼ ਦੇ ਬਾਦਸ਼ਾਹ ਦੀ ਕਹਾਣੀ ਸੁਣੀਂਦੀ ਹੈ
Now listen to the tale of a foreign emperor,
ਚੁਬਾਜ਼ਨਿਨਿਸ਼ਸਤੰਦਪੁਸ਼ਤੇਪਲੰਗ॥੩॥
ਜੋ ਆਪਣੀ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨਾਲ ਪਲੰਘ ਉਪਰ ਬੈਠਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ ॥੩॥
Who was sitting on the bedstead besides his wife.(3)
ਨਜ਼ਰਕਰਦਬਰਬਚਹਗੌਹਰਨਿਗ਼ਾਰ॥
(ਉਸ ਬਾਦਸ਼ਾਹ ਦੀ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨੇ) ਇਕ ਜੌਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖਿਆ
She looked out and saw the son of a jeweller,
ਬਦੀਦਨਹੁਮਾਯੂੰਜਵਾਉਸਤਵਾਰ॥੪॥
ਜੋ ਸੁੰਦਰ, ਜਵਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਤਕੜਾ ਸੀ ॥੪॥
Who appeared to be very handsome and at the prime of his youth.(4)
ਬਵਕਤੇਸ਼ਬਓਰਾਬੁਖ਼ਾਦੰਦਪੇਸ਼॥
ਰਾਤ ਨੂੰ ਰਾਣੀ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੋਲ ਬੁਲਾਇਆ
When the sun had set she summoned,
ਬਦੀਦਨਹੁਮਾਯੂੰਬਬਾਲਾਇਬੇਸ਼॥੫॥
ਜੋ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਬਹੁਤ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਅਤੇ ਕਦਾਵਰ ਲਗਿਆ ॥੫॥
The handsome boy, who was tall like a cypress tree.(5)
ਬਿਆਵੇਖ਼ਤਬਾਓਹਮਹਯਕਦਿਗਰ॥
ਉਹ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਇਕ ਦੂਜੇ ਵਿਚ ਮਗਨ ਹੋ ਗਏ।
ਕਿਜ਼ਾਹਰਸ਼ਵਦਹੋਸ਼ਹੈਬਤਹੁਨਰ॥੬॥
ਜਦ ਸੁਚੇਤ ਹੋਏ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਡਰ ਗਏ। (ਬਚਣ ਲਈ) ਇਕ ਜੁਗਤ ਸੋਚੀ ॥੬॥
ਯਕੇਮੂਇਚੀਂਰਾਬੁਖ਼ਾਦੰਦਪੇਸ਼॥
ਉਸ (ਰਾਣੀ) ਨੇ ਇਕ ਨਾਈ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਾਸ ਬੁਲਾਇਆ,
They both (met,) embraced each other and blended into one,
ਕਿਅਜ਼ਮੂਇਚੀਨੀਬਰਾਵੁਰਦਰੇਸ਼॥੭॥
ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਉਹ ਉਸਤਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਜੌਹਰੀ ਦੀ ਦਾੜ੍ਹੀ ਸਾਫ਼ ਕਰ ਦੇਵੇ ॥੭॥
All their senses, uniqueness and attributes.(7)
ਬਰੋਹਰਕਿਬੀਨਦਨਦਾਨਦਸੁਖ਼ਨ॥
ਜੋ ਕੋਈ ਵੀ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਤਾਂ ਇਸ ਗੱਲ ਨੂੰ ਨਾ ਸਮਝ ਸਕਦਾ
Any body who would see him, could not judge the reality,
ਕਿਅਜ਼ਰੋਇਮਰਦੇਸ਼ੁਦਹਸ਼ਕਲਜ਼ਨ॥੮॥
ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਕਲ ਮਰਦ ਦੀ ਥਾਂ ਔਰਤ ਵਾਲੀ ਬਣ ਗਈ ਸੀ ॥੮॥
As his male face had been disguised as female.(8)
ਬਿਦਾਨੰਦਹਰਕਸਕਿਈਂਹਮਜ਼ਨਅਸਤ॥
ਹਰ ਇਕ ਨੇ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਹੈ
Every body conceded that he was a lady,
ਕਿਦਰਪੈਕਰੇਚੂੰਪਰੀਰੌਸ਼ਨਅਸਤ॥੯॥
ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਰੀਰ ਪਰੀ ਵਾਂਗ ਚਮਕਦਾ ਸੀ ॥੯॥
And she was as pretty as the heavenly fairies.(9)
ਬਦੀਦੰਦਓਰਾਯਕੇਰੋਜ਼ਸ਼ਾਹ॥
ਇਕ ਦਿਨ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਬਾਦਸ਼ਾਹ ਨੇ ਵੇਖਿਆ
One day the king saw her (him),
ਕਿਮਕਬੂਲਸੂਰਤਚੁਰਖ਼ਸ਼ਿੰਦਹਮਾਹ॥੧੦॥
ਕਿ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੂਰਤ ਬੜੀ ਮਨਮੋਹਣੀ ਅਤੇ ਚੰਦ੍ਰਮਾ ਵਾਂਗ ਜੋਤਿਮਾਨ ਹੈ ॥੧੦॥
And complimented that her (his) features were enchanting like the moon in the sky.(10)
ਬਿਪੁਰਸ਼ੀਦਓਰਾਕਿਏਨੇਕਬਖ਼ਤ॥
ਬਾਦਸ਼ਾਹ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪੁਛਿਆ ਕਿ ਐ ਨੇਕ ਬਖ਼ਤ!
She (he) was, then, counselled, ‘You the lucky one,
ਸਜ਼ਾਵਾਰਸ਼ਾਹਅਸਤੁਸ਼ਾਯਾਨਤਖ਼ਤ॥੧੧॥
ਤੂੰ ਬਾਦਸ਼ਾਹ ਦੇ ਲਾਇਕ ਹੈਂ ਅਤੇ ਤਖ਼ਤ ਉਤੇ ਬੈਠਣ ਦੇ ਯੋਗ ਹੈਂ ॥੧੧॥
‘You are worthy of a king and fit to sit on the throne.’(11)
ਕਿਜ਼ਨਤੋਕਦਾਮੀਕਿਰਾਦੁਖ਼ਤਰੀ॥
ਤੂੰ ਕਿਸ ਦੀ ਔਰਤ ਹੈਂ, ਕਿਸ ਦੀ ਲੜਕੀ ਹੈਂ,
‘Whose woman are you and whose daughter are you?
ਕਿਮੁਲਕੇਕਿਰਾਰੋਕਿਰਾਖ਼੍ਵਾਹਰੀ॥੧੨॥
ਕਿਹੜੇ ਮੁਲਕ ਦੀ ਹੈਂ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਸ ਦੀ ਭੈਣ ਹੈਂ? ॥੧੨॥
‘Which country you belong to and whose sister are you?(12)
ਬਨਜ਼ਰਅੰਦਰੂੰਬਹਰਮੰਦਆਮਦਸ਼॥
ਵੇਖਣ ਵਿਚ ਉਹ ਬਹੁਤ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਲਗੀ।
‘You have penetrated the inner vision,
ਬਦੀਦਨਸ਼ਹੇਦਿਲਪਸੰਦਆਮਦਸ਼॥੧੩॥
ਉਹ ਬਾਦਸ਼ਾਹ ਨੂੰ ਬਹੁਤ ਪਸੰਦ ਆਈ ॥੧੩॥
‘And has the king fallen for you at the first sight.’(13)
ਕਨੀਜ਼ਕਯਕੇਰਾਬੁਖ਼ਾਦੰਦਪੇਸ਼॥
(ਬਾਦਸ਼ਾਹ ਨੇ) ਇਕ ਦਾਸੀ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੋਲ ਬੁਲਾਇਆ
Through his maid, the king called her (him),
ਸ਼ਬੰਗਾਹਿਬੁਰਦਸ਼ਦਰੂੰਖ਼ਾਨਹਖ਼ੇਸ਼॥੧੪॥
ਅਤੇ ਰਾਤ ਵੇਲੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਘਰ ਲੈ ਗਿਆ ॥੧੪॥
And asked her to bring her (him) to the inner chambers of his house.(14)
ਬਿਗੁਫ਼ਤਾਕਿਏਸਰਵਕਦਸੀਮਤਨ॥
ਕਹਿਣ ਲਗਾ ਕਿ ਅਜ ਮੈਂ ਸਰੂ ਵਰਗੇ ਕਦ ਵਾਲੀ ਅਤੇ ਚਾਂਦੀ ਦੇ ਸਮਾਨ ਰੰਗ ਵਾਲੀ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਵੇਖੀ ਹੈ
(The king had said,) ‘Oh, my maid, I have come across an elegant like a cypress tree,
ਚਰਾਗ਼ੇਫ਼ਲਕਆਫ਼ਤਾਬੇਯਮਨ॥੧੫॥
ਜੋ ਆਕਾਸ਼ੀ ਦੀਪਕ (ਚੰਦ੍ਰਮਾ) ਵਰਗੀ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਅਤੇ ਸੂਰਜ ਵਰਗੀ ਜੋਤਿਮਾਨ ਹੈ ॥੧੫॥
‘Which looks like the moon fallen from the skies of Yaman.(15)
ਵਜ਼ਾਬਹਰਮਾਰਾਬਤਪਸ਼ੀਦਦਿਲ॥
ਉਸ ਲਈ ਮੇਰਾ ਦਿਲ ਤੜਪ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ
‘My heart is writhing for her,
ਕਿਮਾਹੀਬਿਅਫ਼ਤਾਦਅਜ਼ਆਬਗਿਲ॥੧੬॥
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਮੱਛਲੀ ਪਾਣੀ ਤੋਂ ਨਿਕਲ ਕੇ ਚਿਕੜ ਵਿਚ ਡਿਗ ਕੇ ਤੜਪਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧੬॥
‘It is like fish flutters when it is thrown in a dirty puddle.(16)
ਬੁਰੋਏਸ਼ਬਾਪੈਕਗੁਲਜ਼ਾਰਮਾ॥
ਹੇ ਫੁਲਵਾੜੀ ਵਾਂਗ ਖਿੜੀ ਹੋਈ ਮੇਰੀ ਦੂਤੀਏ!
‘Oh, you my maid-messenger, who are like a blooming flower,
ਕਿਦਰਪੇਸ਼ਯਾਰੇਵਫ਼ਾਦਾਰਮਾ॥੧੭॥
ਮੇਰੀ ਵਫ਼ਾਦਾਰ ਯਾਰ ਕੋਲ ਜਾ ॥੧੭॥
‘Go to the blossoming bud and bring her to me.(17)
ਤੁਗ਼ਰਪੇਸ਼ਓਰਾਬਿਯਾਰੀਮਰਾ॥
ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਕੋਲ ਲੈ ਆਏਂਗੀ
‘If you bring her to me for me,
ਕਿਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੇਮਸਰਬਸਤਹਗੰਜੇਤੁਰਾ॥੧੮॥
ਤਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਮੋਹਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਭਰੀ ਹੋਈ ਥੈਲੀ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਦੇਵਾਂਗਾ ॥੧੮॥
‘I will open up all the annuls of my treasures for you.’(18)
ਰਵਾਸ਼ੁਦਕਨੀਜ਼ਕਸ਼ੁਨੀਦਈਂਸੁਖ਼ਨ॥
ਬਾਦਸ਼ਾਹ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਨੌਕਰਾਣੀ ਚਲ ਪਈ
Harking to this the maidservant instantly departed,
ਬਿਗੋਯਦਸੁਖ਼ਨਰਾਜ਼ਿਸਰਤਾਬਬੁਨ॥੧੯॥
ਅਤੇ ਉਥੇ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਕੇ ਸਿਰ ਤੋਂ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਤਕ ਸਾਰੀ ਗੱਲ ਦਸ ਦਿੱਤੀ ॥੧੯॥
And narrated from head to tail of the whole conservation.(19)
ਜ਼ੁਬਾਨੀਕਨੀਜ਼ਕਸ਼ੁਨੀਦੀਂਸੁਖ਼ਨ॥
ਨੌਕਰਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਬਾਨ ਤੋਂ ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ,
When she (he) listened to the whole talk from the maid,
ਬਪੇਚੀਦਬਰਖ਼ੁਦਜ਼ਿਪੋਸ਼ਾਕਜ਼ਨ॥੨੦॥
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਸ਼ਕਲ ਅਤੇ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਵਾਲੇ ਬਸਤ੍ਰ ਬਹੁਤ ਮਾੜੇ ਲਗੇ ॥੨੦॥
Feeling topsy-turvy, he was overpowered with distress.(20)
ਕਿਜ਼ਾਹਰਕੁਨਾਨੀਦਅਸਬਾਬਖ਼ੇਸ਼॥
ਜੇ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਭੇਦ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਇਆ,
(And thought,) ‘If I reveal my secret to the world,
ਕਿਦੀਦਨਜਹਾਰਾਬਕਿਰਦਾਰਖ਼ੇਸ਼॥੨੧॥
ਤਾਂ ਫਿਰ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਮੇਰਾ ਕੀ ਕਿਰਦਾਰ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ ॥੨੧॥
‘All my planning will be dismantled.(21)
ਬਖ਼ਾਹਦਮਰਾਸ਼ਾਹਿਏਯਾਰਮਾ॥
(ਉਸ ਨੇ ਰਾਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ) ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਯਾਰ! ਬਾਦਸ਼ਾਹ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
‘Looking at my female attire, the king has fallen for me,
ਮਰਾਮਸਲਿਹਤਦਿਹਵਫ਼ਾਦਾਰਮਾ॥੨੨॥
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਵਫ਼ਾਦਾਰ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਲਾਹ ਦੇ (ਕਿ ਕੀ ਕਰਾਂ) ॥੨੨॥
‘Oh, my lady, please counsel me what to do?’(22)
ਤੁਗੋਈਮਨਈਂਜਾਗੁਰੇਜ਼ਾਸ਼ਵਮ॥
ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਕਹੇਂ ਤਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਇਸ ਥਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਗੁੰਮ ਹੋ ਜਾਵਾਂ।
‘If you say so, I will run away from this place.
ਕਿਇਮਰੋਜ਼ਅਜ਼ਜਾਇਖ਼ੇਜ਼ਾਸ਼ਵਮ॥੨੩॥
ਜੇ ਕਹੇਂ ਤਾਂ ਅਜ ਹੀ ਇਥੋਂ ਚਲਾ ਜਾਵਾਂ ॥੨੩॥
‘Immediately, today, I take on my heels.’(23)
ਨਤਰਸੀਇਲਾਜੇਤੁਰਾਮਨਕੁਨਮ॥
(ਰਾਣੀ ਨੇ ਉੱਤਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ) ਤੂੰ ਨਾ ਡਰ, ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਕੋਈ ਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਉਪਾ ਕਰਦੀ ਹਾਂ।
(The Queen said,) ‘Don’t be afraid, I will tell you the remedy.
ਬਦੀਦਨਵਜ਼ਾਚਾਰਮਾਹੇਨਿਹਮ॥੨੪॥
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਵੇਖਦੇ ਹੋਇਆਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚਾਰ ਮਹੀਨੇ ਕੋਲ ਰਖਾਂਗੀ ॥੨੪॥
‘Even remaining under his observation, I will keep you for four months.’(24)
ਚੁਖ਼ੁਸ਼ਪੀਦਯਕਜਾਇਚੂੰਬੇਖ਼ਬਰ॥
(ਇਹ ਕਹਿ ਕੇ) ਰਾਣੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਰਾਣੀ ਨਾਲ) ਇਕ ਮੰਜੇ ਉਤੇ ਬੇਸੁਰਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਸੌਂ ਗਈ।
Then, they both went to the sleeping-place and went into a slumber,
ਖ਼ਬਰਗਸ਼ਤਸ਼ੁਦਸ਼ਾਹਓਸ਼ੇਰਨਰ॥੨੫॥
ਇਸ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਬਰ ਦਾਸੀ ਨੇ ਸ਼ੇਰ ਵਰਗੇ ਬਾਦਸ਼ਾਹ ਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਤੀ ॥੨੫॥
And the news roamed around to the lion hearted king.(25)
ਦਹਾਨੇਕਨੀਜ਼ਕਸ਼ੁਨੀਦਈਂਸੁਖ਼ਨ॥
ਦਾਸੀ ਦੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਤੋਂ ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ
The maid, then, conveyed the king what was happening,
ਬਜੁੰਬਸ਼ਬਲਰਜ਼ੀਦਸਰਤਾਬਬੁਨ॥੨੬॥
ਬਾਦਸ਼ਾਹ ਸਿਰ ਤੋਂ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਤਕ ਗੁੱਸੇ ਨਾਲ ਕੰਬਣ ਲਗਾ ॥੨੬॥
And the king flew into rage from head to feet.(26)
