ਅਦੂਰਾਜ਼ਿਮਰਦੀਬਰਆਵੁਰਦਦੂਦ॥੬॥
ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਬਹਾਦਰੀ ਨਾਲ ਵੈਰੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਧੂੰਆਂ ਕਢ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਸੀ (ਭਾਵ-ਨਸ਼ਟ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਸੀ) ॥੬॥
Through his manliness, he had blown up the enemies.(6)
ਵਜ਼ੀਰਯਕੇਬੂਦਓਹੋਸ਼ਮੰਦ॥
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਇਕ ਵਜ਼ੀਰ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੋਸ਼ਮੰਦ ਸੀ।
(Another) one of the King's ministers was very shrewd,
ਰਈਯਤਨਿਵਾਜ਼ਅਸਤਦੁਸ਼ਮਨਗਜ਼ੰਦ॥੭॥
ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਜਾ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਲਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਅਤੇ ਵੈਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਸ਼ਟ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਸੀ ॥੭॥
Who inspired the subject but perpetrated the enemies.(7)
ਵਜ਼ਾਦੁਖ਼ਤਰੇਹਸਤਰੌਸ਼ਨਚਰਾਗ਼॥
(ਵਜ਼ੀਰ) ਦੀ ਲੜਕੀ ਦੀਵੇ ਦੀ ਰੌਸ਼ਨੀ ਵਰਗੀ ਸੀ
That minister had a daughter, who was as illuminated as light,
ਕਿਨਾਮੇਅਜ਼ਾਬੂਦਰੌਸ਼ਨਦਿਮਾਗ਼॥੮॥
ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ 'ਰੌਸ਼ਨ ਦਿਮਾਗ਼' ਸੀ ॥੮॥
And her name was named 'Roshan Dimaagh' (lit. Enlightened Intellect).(8)
ਬਮਕਤਬਸਪੁਰਦੰਦਹਰਦੋਤਿਫ਼ਲ॥
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਕੱਠਿਆਂ ਮਦਰਸੇ ਵਿਚ ਬਿਠਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ
The King admitted two of his children,
ਕਿਤਿਫ਼ਲਸ਼ਬਸੇਰੋਜ਼ਗਸ਼ਤੰਦਖ਼ਿਜ਼ਲ॥੯॥
ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਬੱਚੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਦਿਨਾਂ ਤਕ ਵੇਹਲੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ ॥੯॥
Who had been sauntering too long, in school.(9)
ਨਿਸ਼ਸਤੰਦਦਾਨਾਇਮੌਲਾਇਰੂਮ॥
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਰੂਮ ਦੇਸ਼ ਦੇ ਸੂਝਵਾਨ ਮੌਲਵੀ ਪਾਸ ਪੜ੍ਹਨ ਲਈ ਬਿਠਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ।
They were admitted with a wise Maulana (religious priest) of Rome,
ਕਿਦਿਰਮਸ਼ਬਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀਦਆਂਮਰਜ਼ਬੂਮ॥੧੦॥
ਬਾਦਸ਼ਾਹ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਧਨ ਅਤੇ ਜਾਗੀਰ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀ ॥੧੦॥
Who had been endowed with wealth and land.(10)
ਨਿਸ਼ਸਤੰਦਦਰਆਂਜਾਇਤਿਫ਼ਲੇਬਸੇ॥
ਉਸ ਥਾਂ ਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਵੀ ਕਈ ਬੱਚੇ ਪੜ੍ਹਨ ਲਈ ਬੈਠੇ ਸਨ।
Other children were present there too,
ਬੁਖ਼ਾਦੇਸੁਖ਼ਨਅਜ਼ਕਿਤਾਬਹਰਕਸੇ॥੧੧॥
ਹਰ ਬੱਚਾ ਆਪਣੀ ਕਿਤਾਬ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਸਬਕ ਪੜ੍ਹਦਾ ਸੀ ॥੧੧॥
Who used to read their lessons from the books.(11)
ਬਬਗ਼ਲਅੰਦਰਆਰੰਦਹਰਯਕਕਿਤਾਬ॥
ਹਰ ਬੱਚਾ ਆਪਣੀ ਬਗ਼ਲ ਵਿਚ ਰਖ ਕੇ ਕਿਤਾਬ ਲਿਆਉਂਦਾ ਸੀ
They all would bring their books tucked under their arms,
ਜ਼ਿਤਉਰੇਤਅੰਜੀਲਵਜਹੇਅਦਾਬ॥੧੨॥
ਅਤੇ ਤੌਰੇਤ ਤੇ ਅੰਜੀਲ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ (ਸਭ) ਅਦਬ ਅਦਾਬ ਨਾਲ ਲਿਆਉਂਦੇ ਸਨ ॥੧੨॥
Often there were discussions on Tohra and Anjeel.(12)
ਦੁਮਕਤਬਕੁਨਾਨੀਦਹਫ਼ਤਅਜ਼ਜ਼ੁਬਾ॥
(ਉਥੇ) ਸੱਤ ਭਾਸ਼ਾਵਾਂ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਦੋ ਸਕੂਲ ਬਣਾਏ ਗਏ ਸਨ।
For the teaching of seven languages, two schools were established.
ਯਕੇਮਰਦਬੁਖ਼ਾਦੰਦਦੀਗਰਜ਼ਨਾ॥੧੩॥
ਇਕ ਵਿਚ ਲੜਕੇ ਅਤੇ ਦੂਜੇ ਵਿਚ ਲੜਕੀਆਂ ਪੜ੍ਹਦੀਆਂ ਸਨ ॥੧੩॥
One for the males; the other for the females.(13)
ਕਿਤਿਫ਼ਲਾਬੁਖ਼ਾਦੰਦਮੁਲਾਖ਼ੁਸ਼ਸ਼॥
ਮੁੰਡਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਕ ਚੰਗਾ ਸਿਆਣਾ ਮੌਲਵੀ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਉਂਦਾ ਸੀ
The boys were taught by a Maulana, (A male Islamic scholar),
ਜ਼ਨਾਰਾਬੁਖ਼ਾਦੰਦਜ਼ਨੇਫ਼ਾਜ਼ਲਸ਼॥੧੪॥
ਅਤੇ ਕੁੜੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਕ ਬੁੱਧੀਮਾਨ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਉਂਦੀ ਸੀ ॥੧੪॥
A knowledgeable lady instructed the girls.(14)
ਵਜ਼ਾਦਰਮਿਯਾਬੂਦਦੀਵਾਰਜ਼ੀਂ॥
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੋਹਾਂ (ਮਦਰਸਿਆਂ) ਵਿਚ ਇਕ ਦੀਵਾਰ ਸੀ।
A wall was built between the two sections,
ਯਕੇਆਂਤਰਫ਼ਬੂਦਯਕੇਤਰਫ਼ਈਂ॥੧੫॥
ਇਕ ਪਾਸੇ ਲੜਕੇ ਅਤੇ ਦੂਜੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਲੜਕੀਆਂ ਪੜ੍ਹਦੀਆਂ ਸਨ ॥੧੫॥
The boys were kept on the one side and girls on the other.(15)
ਸਬਕਬੁਰਦਹਰਦੋਜ਼ਿਹਰਯਕਹੁਨਰ॥
ਹਰ ਇਕ ਹੁਨਰ ਦੀ ਉਹ ਦੋਵੇਂ (ਬੱਚੇ) ਸਿਖਿਆ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਸਨ
Both sides were endeavouring hard,
ਇਲਮਕਸ਼ਮਕਸ਼ਕਰਦਬਾਯਕਦਿਗਰ॥੧੬॥
ਅਤੇ ਇਲਮ ਵਿਚ ਇਕ ਦੂਜੇ ਤੋਂ ਅਗੇ ਵਧਣ ਦਾ ਯਤਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਸਨ ॥੧੬॥
To learn and excel over the other side,(16)
ਸੁਖ਼ਨਹਰਯਕੇਰਾਦਹਰਯਕਕਿਤਾਬ॥
ਹਰ ਇਕ ਬੱਚਾ ਹਰ ਇਕ ਕਿਤਾਬ ਤੋਂ ਸਬਕ ਪੜ੍ਹਦਾ ਸੀ
Everyone read all the books,
ਜ਼ੁਬਾਫ਼ਰਸ਼ਅਰਬੀਬਿਗੋਯਦਜਵਾਬ॥੧੭॥
ਅਤੇ ਜਵਾਬ ਅਰਬੀ ਫ਼ਾਰਸੀ ਜ਼ਬਾਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਸਨ ॥੧੭॥
Which were written both in Persian and Arabic.(17)
ਇਲਮਰਾਸੁਖਨਰਾਦਬਾਯਕਦਿਗਰ॥
ਨਿਪੁਣ, ਮੂਰਖ, ਚਾਲਾਕ ਅਤੇ ਚੰਗੇ ਵਿਵਹਾਰ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੱਚੇ
They discussed education among themselves,
ਜ਼ਿਕਾਮਲਜ਼ਿਜ਼ਾਯਲਜ਼ਿਨਾਰਦਸਿਯਰ॥੧੮॥
ਪੜ੍ਹਾਈ ਸੰਬੰਧੀ ਇਕ ਦੂਜੇ ਨਾਲ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਸਨ ॥੧੮॥
Irrespective of the fact whether they were intelligent or irrational.(18)
ਕਿਸ਼ਮਸ਼ੇਰਇਲਮੋਅਲਮਬਰਕਸ਼ੀਦ॥
ਦੋਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਵਿਦਿਆ ਦੀ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਦਾ ਝੰਡਾ ਚੁਕ ਲਿਆ (ਭਾਵ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਈ ਵਿਚ ਮਗਨ ਹੋ ਗਏ)
They raised the flags to acquire education for the swordsmanship,
ਬਹਾਰੇਜਵਾਨੀਬਹਰਦੋਰਸ਼ੀਦ॥੧੯॥
ਅਤੇ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਜਵਾਨੀ ਦੀ ਬਹਾਰ ਆ ਗਈ ॥੧੯॥
As soon as they reached the ages of maturity.(19)
ਬਹਾਰਸ਼ਦਰਆਮਦਗੁਲੇਦੋਸਤਾ॥
ਬਾਗ਼ ਦੇ ਉਹ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਫੁਲ ਬਹਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਗਏ (ਭਾਵ-ਭਰ ਜਵਾਨ ਹੋ ਗਏ)
As the spring season approached,
ਬਜੁੰਬਸ਼ਦਰਾਮਦਸਹੇਚੀਸਤਾ॥੨੦॥
ਅਤੇ ਚੀਨ ਦਾ ਬਾਦਸ਼ਾਹ (ਅਰਥਾਤ ਕਾਮ ਦੇਵ) ਵੀ ਜੋਸ਼ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਗਿਆ ॥੨੦॥
In both the factions, the China syndrome sprung up.(20)
ਬਰਖ਼ਸ਼ਅੰਦਰਆਮਦਸ਼ਹਿਨਸ਼ਾਹਿਚੀਂ॥
(ਲੜਕੇ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ) ਚੀਨ ਦੇ ਬਾਦਸ਼ਾਹ (ਕਾਮ ਦੇਵ) ਨੇ ਚਮਕਾਰਾ ਮਾਰਿਆ
Like the King of kings of China, their desires rose,
ਬਖ਼ੂਬੀਦਰਾਮਦਤਨੇਨਾਜ਼ਨੀਂ॥੨੧॥
ਅਤੇ ਲੜਕੀ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਵੀ ਸੁੰਦਰਤਾ ਨੇ ਹੁਲਾਰਾ ਲਿਆ ॥੨੧॥
Particularly, the ladies achieved the beauteous treats.(21)
ਬਖ਼ੂਬੀਦਰਆਮਦਗੁਲੇਬੋਸਤਾ॥
ਬਾਗ਼ ਦਾ ਫੁਲ (ਭਾਵ ਲੜਕਾ) ਸੁੰਦਰਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਆਇਆ (ਭਾਵ ਜਵਾਨੀ ਨੇ ਖ਼ੂਬ ਰੰਗ ਬੰਨ੍ਹਿਆ)
All of them blossomed like garden,
ਬਐਸ਼ਅੰਦਰਆਮਦਦਿਲੇਦੋਸਤਾ॥੨੨॥
ਅਤੇ ਦੋਸਤਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੀਆਂ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਮੰਨਾਉਣ ਲਗਾ ॥੨੨॥
And all the friends indulged in merriment.(22)
ਜ਼ਿਦੇਵਾਰਜੋਅੰਦਰੂੰਮੂਸਹਸਤ॥
ਮਦਰਸੇ ਦੀ ਦੀਵਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਇਕ ਚੂਹਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਸੀ,
Inside that wall, a mouse used to live,
ਜ਼ਿਦੇਵਾਰਓਹਮਚੂੰਸੂਰਾਖਗਸ਼ਤ॥੨੩॥
ਜਿਸ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੀਵਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਮੋਰੀ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਸੀ ॥੨੩॥
Which had caused holes to appear in the wall.(23)
ਬਦੀਦਨਅਜ਼ਾਅੰਦਰੂੰਹਰਦੁਤਨ॥
ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦੇ ਦੀਵੇ ਵਰਗੀ ਲੜਕੀ
Through them two (people) used to observe each other,
ਚਰਾਗ਼ੇਜਹਾਆਫ਼ਤਾਬੇਯਮਨ॥੨੪॥
ਅਤੇ ਯਮਨ ਦੇ ਸੂਰਜ ਵਰਗਾ ਲੜਕਾ ਉਸ ਮੋਰੀ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਇਕ ਦੂਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖਦੇ ਸਨ ॥੨੪॥
One was the light of the universe and the other sun of the Yamanee Skies.(24)
ਚੁਨਾਇਸ਼ਕਆਵੇਖ਼ਤਹਰਦੋਨਿਹਾ॥
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਝੇ ਢੰਗ ਨਾਲ ਇਸ਼ਕ ਲਗ ਗਿਆ।
Thus those two were trapped in the love affair,
ਕਿਇਲਮਸ਼ਰਵਦਦਸਤਹੋਸ਼ਅਜ਼ਜਹਾ॥੨੫॥
ਪੜ੍ਹਾਈ ਕਰਨੀ ਵਿਸਰ ਗਈ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦੀ ਸੁਰਤ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਰਹੀ ॥੨੫॥
And they neglected their education and the worldly awareness.(25)
ਚੁਨਾਹਰਦੁਆਵੇਖ਼ਤਬਾਹਮਰਗ਼ੇਬ॥
ਉਹ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਆਪਸ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕਾਰਨ ਇਤਨੇ ਉਲਝ ਗਏ
Their entanglement in the love was so intense,
ਕਿਦਸਤਅਜ਼ਇਨਾਰਫ਼ਤਪਾਅਜ਼ਰਕੇਬ॥੨੬॥
ਕਿ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਹੱਥਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਲਗ਼ਾਮਾਂ ਛੁਟ ਗਈਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਪੈਰ ਰਕਾਬਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਨਿਕਲ ਗਏ (ਭਾਵ-ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਭ ਸੁੱਧ ਬੁੱਧ ਭੁਲ ਗਈ) ॥੨੬॥
That both of them lost the senses of managing the stirrups of their horses.(26)
ਬਪੁਰਸ਼ੀਦਹਰਦੋਕਿਏਨੇਕਖ਼ੋਇ॥
(ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਜਮਾਤੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਅਜਿਹੀ ਹਾਲਤ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ) ਦੋਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੁਛਿਆ ਕਿ ਐ ਨੇਕ ਸੁਭਾ ਵਾਲਿਓ!
They both asked each other, ‘Oh the cherished one, you are like the sun,
ਕਿਏਆਫ਼ਤਾਬੇਜਹਾਮਾਹਰੋਇ॥੨੭॥
ਅਤੇ ਸੂਰਜ ਅਤੇ ਚੰਦ੍ਰਮਾ ਵਾਂਗ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਸਰੂਪ ਵਾਲਿਓ! ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕੀ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੨੭॥
‘And you, the Enlightener of the universe, and taking after the moon, how are you?’(27)
ਕਿਈਂਹਾਲਗੁਜ਼ਰਦਬਆਂਹਰਦੋਤਨ॥
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਇਸ ਹਾਲ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਗੁਜ਼ਰਨ ਕਾਰਨ,
When both of them were passing through such a state,
ਬਿਪੁਰਸ਼ੀਦਅਖ਼ਵੰਦਵਅਖ਼ਵੰਦਜ਼ਨ॥੨੮॥
ਦੋਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਉਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਉਸਤਾਦ ਅਤੇ ਅਧਿਆਪਕਾ ਨੇ ਬੁਲਾ ਕੇ ਪੁਛਿਆ ॥੨੮॥
Both, the male and female teachers, asked,(28)
ਚਰਾਗ਼ੇਫ਼ਲਕਆਫ਼ਤਾਬੇਜਹਾ॥
ਐ ਚੰਦ੍ਰਮਾ ਵਰਗੀ! ਅਤੇ ਐ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦੇ ਸੂਰਜ!
‘O, you the lamp of the skies and the Enlightener of the universe,
ਚਰਾਲਾਗਰੀਗਸ਼ਤਵਜਹੇਨੁਮਾ॥੨੯॥
ਤੁਸੀਂ ਕਮਜ਼ੋਰ ਕਿਉਂ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਹੋ। ਇਸ ਦਾ ਕੀ ਕਾਰਨ ਹੈ ॥੨੯॥
‘Why do you seem to be languishing?(29)
ਚਿਆਜ਼ਾਰਗਸ਼ਤਹਬੁਗੋਜਾਨਮਾ॥
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਾਨ! ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਕੀ ਦੁਖ ਹੈ
‘Tell us, our loved ones, what has distressed you?
