ਸਤਿਗੁਰਸਚਾਪਾਤਿਸਾਹੁਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸਚਾਪੰਥੁਸੁਹੇਲਾ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ (ਨਾਨਕ) ਸੱਚਾ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਹੈ, (ਜਿਸਨੇ) ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਸੱਚਾ ਪੰਥ ਸੁਖ ਰੂਪ ਰਚਿਆ ਹੈ, (ਭਾਵ ਆਪ ਸੱਚ ਰੂਪ ਹੈ, ਪੰਥ ਬੀ ਸੰਚਾ ਸੁਖ ਰੂਪ ਹੈ)।
The true Guru is the true emperor and the way of gurmukhs is the way of happiness.
ਮਨਮੁਖਕਰਮਕਮਾਂਵਦੇਦੁਰਮਤਿਦੂਜਾਭਾਉਦੁਹੇਲਾ।
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਕਰਮ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡਕੇ) ਓਹ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਅਰ ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਉ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਦੁਖੀ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
Mind-orientd, manmukhs, act controlled by ill intellect and tread on painful path of duality.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸੁਖਫਲੁਸਾਧਸੰਗਭਾਇਭਗਤਿਕਰਿਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਮੇਲਾ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਲੋਕ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਖੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਭਾਇ ਭਗਤ (ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਨਾਲ) ਮੇਲਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸੁਖਫਲ ਪਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ)।
Gurmukhs attain the fruit of delight in the holy congregation and with loving devotion meet the gurmukhs.
ਕੂੜੁਕੁਸਤੁਅਸਾਧਸੰਗੁਮਨਮੁਖਦੁਖਫਲੁਹੈਵਿਹੁਵੇਲਾ।
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਕੂੜ ਤੇ ਹਠ ਰੂਪ 'ਅਸਾਧ' ਦੁਸ਼ਟ ਸੰਗਤ ਹੈ, (ਇਸ ਕਰਕੇ) ਦੁਖ ਫਲ ਅਤੇ ਜ਼ਹਿਰ ਦੀ ਫਲੀ ਰੂਪ ਹੈ।
In the company of falsehood and the wicked, the fruit of sufferings of the mannzukhs grows like a poisonous creeper.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਆਪੁਗਵਾਵਣਾਪੈਰੀਪਉਣਾਨੇਹੁਨਵੇਲਾ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਆਪਾ ਭਾਵ ਗਵਾਕੇ ਪੈਰੀਂ ਪੌਣਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਇਸੇ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦਿਨੋਂ ਦਿਨ ਨਵੇਲ (ਨਵਾਂ) ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਅਥਵਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦਾ ਇਕ ਵੇਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਭਾਵ ਅੱਠੇ ਪਹਿਰ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ)।
Losing the ego and falling on the feet is a new path of love followed by gurmukhs.
ਮਨਮੁਖਆਪੁਗਣਾਵਣਾਗੁਰਮਤਿਗੁਰਤੇਉਕੜੁਚੇਲਾ।
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਆਪਣਾ (ਜਨਮ) ਗਵਾ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਗੁਰ ਸਿਖ੍ਯਾ ਥੋਂ ('ਉਕੜੁ') ਉੱਕਣ ਵਾਲਾ (ਜਾਂ ਉਪਰਾਮੀ) ਚੇਲਾ ਹੈ, (ਛੇਕੜਲੀ ਤੁਕ ਵਿਖੇ ਸਿੱਟਾ ਦੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ)।
The manmukh makes himself noticed and moves away from the Guru and the wisdom of the Guru.
ਕੂੜੁਸਚੁਸੀਹਬਕਰਖੇਲਾ।੧।
ਝੂਠ ਤੇ ਸੱਚ ਦਾ ਸ਼ੇਰ ਅਤੇ ਬੱਕਰੇ ਵਾਲਾ ਖੇਲ ਹੈ (ਸੱਚ ਅਗੇ ਝੂਠ ਲੋਪ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ)।
The game of truth and falsehood is similar to (impossible) meeting of the lion and the goat.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸੁਖਫਲੁਸਚੁਹੈਮਨਮੁਖਦੁਖਫਲੁਕੂੜੁਕੂੜਾਵਾ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਸਚੀ ਮੁਚੀ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਫਲ ਰੂਪ ਹੈ ਅਰ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਦੁਖ ਦਾ ਫਲ ਰੂਪ ਹੈ, (ਅਰ 'ਕੂੜ ਕੂੜਾਵਾ') ਝੂਠ ਮੂਠ ਹੈ (ਅਥਵਾ ਕੁੜ ਕੁੜ ਕੁੱਕੜੀ ਵਾਂਗੂੰ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ)।
The gurmukh attains the pleasure fruit of truth and the manmukh receives the bitter fruit of falsehood.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸਚੁਸੰਤੋਖੁਰੁਖੁਦੁਰਮਤਿਦੂਜਾਭਾਉਪਛਾਵਾ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਸੱਚ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਤੋਖ ਦਾ ਬ੍ਰਿੱਛ ਹੈ, 'ਦੁਰਮਤਿ' ਮਨਮੁਖ ਦੂਜੇ ਭਾਉ ਵਾਲਾ ਬ੍ਰਿੱਛ ਦੇ ਪਰਛਾਵੇਂ ਵਾਂਗੂੰ ਹੈ, (ਅੱਗੇ ਖੋਲ੍ਹਕੇ ਦੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ)।
Gurmukh is tree of truth and contentment and the wicked person is the unstable shade of duality.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸਚੁਅਡੋਲੁਹੈਮਨਮੁਖਫੇਰਿਫਿਰੰਦੀਛਾਵਾਂ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਨਿਸਚੇ ਸਥਿਰ (ਬ੍ਰਿੱਛ ਵਤ) ਹੈ ਅਰ ਮਨਮੁਖ (ਉਡਦੇ ਪੰਛੀ ਦੀ) ਛਾਂ ਵਾਂਗ (ਅਨਸਥਿਰ) ਹੈ।
Gurmukh is firm like truth and manmukh, the mind oriented is like ever shifting shade.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਕੋਇਲਅੰਬਵਣਮਨਮੁਖਵਣਿਵਣਿਹੰਢਨਿਕਾਵਾਂ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਅੰਬ ਦੇ ਬੂਟੇ ਦੀ ਕੋਇਲ ਵਾਂਙ ਹੈ, (ਜੋ ਠੰਡੀ ਛਾਂ ਇਕੋ ਬੂਟੇ ਤੇ ਬੈਠਕੇ ਮਿਸ਼ਟ ਬਚਨ ਬੋਲਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਰ) ਮਨਮੁਖ ਬੂਟੇ ਬੂਟੇ ਬੈਠੇ ਕਾਵਾਂ ਵਾਂਗੂ ਕਾਂ ਕਾਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Gurmukh is like nightingale which resides in mango groves but manmukh is like a crow which wanders in forests from place to place.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਸਚੁਬਾਗਹੈਸਬਦਸੁਰਤਿਗੁਰਮੰਤੁਸਚਾਵਾਂ।
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਸੱਚਾ ਬਾਗ ਹੈ, ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਸੁਰਤ ਅਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਸੱਚੀ (ਛਾਂ) ਹੈ।
The holy congregation is the true garden where gurmantr inspires the consciousness to merge in the Word, the true shade.
ਵਿਹੁਵਣੁਵਲਿਅਸਾਧਸੰਗਿਬਹੁਤੁਸਿਆਣਪਨਿਗੋਸਾਵਾਂ।
ਖੋਟੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਹੁ (ਜ਼ਹਿਰ) ਦਾ ('ਵਲਿ') ਬੂਟਾ ਹੈ, ਵੱਡੀਆਂ ਸਿਆਣਪਾਂ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਨਿੱਗੋਸਾਵਾਂ ਹੈ (ਅਰਥਾਤ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੁਸਾਈਂ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ “ਕਬੀਰ ਨਿਗੁਸਾਏਂ ਬਹਿ ਗਏ ਥਾਂਘੀ ਨਾਂਹੀ ਕੋਈ॥” ਅਰਥਾਤ ਨਿਗੁਰੇ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਵਾਹ ਵਿਖੇ ਰੁੜ੍ਹਦੇ ਹਨ, ਕੋਈ ਠੱਲਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ, ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਆਸ਼੍ਰਯ
Company of the wicked is like a wild poisonous creeper and the manmukh in order to develop it goes on playing many tricks.
ਜਿਉਕਰਿਵੇਸੁਆਵੰਸੁਨਿਨਾਵਾਂ।੨।
(ਓਹ ਲੋਕ ਮਨਮੁਖ) ਵੇਸ਼ਵਾ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤ੍ਰ ਵਾਂਗ ਨਿਨਾਵੇਂ ਹਨ। (ਅਰਥਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਨਾਮ ਨਹੀਂ। ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ-”ਵਿਚਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵਦੇ ਜਿਉ ਵੇਸੁਆ ਪੁਤੁ ਨਿਨਾਉ॥ ਪਿਤਾ ਜਾਤਿ ਤਾ ਹੋਈਐ ਗੁਰੁ ਤੁਠਾ ਕਰੇ ਪਸਾਉ॥”
He is like the son of a prostitute who goes without a family name.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਹੋਇਵੀਆਹੀਐਦੁਹੀਵਲੀਮਿਲਿਮੰਗਲਚਾਰਾ।
(ਜਦ ਕੰਨ੍ਯਾ) ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ ਯੁਬਾ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਖੇ ਸਿਆਣੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ) ਵਿਆਹੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਦੁਹੀਂ ਪਾਸੀ (ਧੇਤੇ ਪੁਤੇਤੇ) ਮੰਗਲਾਚਾਰ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਏਥੇ ਨਵਾਂ ਜਾਂ ਦਸਾਂ ਵਰਿਹਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਧੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਵਿਵਾਹ ਭਾਈ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਬੰਦ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਖਣ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ, ਅਰਥਾਤ ਪੁੱਤ੍ਰ ਧੀ ਜਦ ਜੁਆਨ ਹੋਣ ਅਰ ਅੰਮ੍ਰ੍ਰ
Gurmukhs are such as the marriage of two families where sweet songs are sung on both sides and pleasures is attained.
ਦੁਹੁਮਿਲਿਜੰਮੈਜਾਣੀਐਪਿਤਾਜਾਤਿਪਰਵਾਰਸਧਾਰਾ।
(ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਭਰਤਾ) ਦੋਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੇਲ ਥੋਂ ਪੁੱਤ੍ਰ ਜੰਮਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਿਤਾ ਦੀ ਜਾਤ ਦਾ ('ਸਧਾਰਾ') ਆਸਰਾ (ਵੇਖਕੇ) ਸਾਰਾ ਪਰਵਾਰ (ਅਨੰਦਿਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ)।
They are such as the son born of the union of mother and father gives happiness to the parents because the lineage and family of the father gets increased.
ਜੰਮਦਿਆਂਰੁਣਝੁੰਝਣਾਵੰਸਿਵਧਾਈਰੁਣਝੁਣਕਾਰਾ।
ਜੰਮਣ ਵੇਲੇ ਵਾਜੇ ਵਜਾਕੇ ਅਨੰਦ ਵਧਾਈਆਂ ਕਰਦੇ ਵੰਸ ਵਧਣ (ਦੀ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਵਿਚ 'ਰੁਣ ਝੁਣਕਾਰਾ' ਰਾਗੀਆਂ ਦੇ) ਸ਼ਬਦ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
Clarionets are played upon the birth of a child and celebrations are arranged on the further development of the family.
ਨਾਨਕਦਾਦਕਸੋਹਿਲੇਵਿਰਤੀਸਰਬਹੁਦਾਨਦਤਾਰਾ।
ਨਾਨਕੇ ਦਾਦਕੇ (ਘਰ) ਖੁਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਹੁੰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ; ਲਾਗੀ ਲੋਕ (ਜੋ ਟਹਿਲ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ) ਦਾਨੀਆਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਦਾਨ ਪਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
In the homes of mother and father songs of joy are sung and the servants are given many a gift.
ਬਹੁਮਿਤੀਹੋਇਵੇਸੁਆਨਾਪਿਉਨਾਉਂਨਿਨਾਉਂਪੁਕਾਰਾ।
ਵੇਸਵਾ ਦੇ ਬਾਹਲੇ ਮਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਹਨ, (ਇਸ ਲਈ ਉਸਦੇ ਵਿਆਹ ਪੁਰ ਕੋਈ ਅਨੰਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੰਤਾਨ) ਪਿਤਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਉਂ ਥੋਂ ਸੱਖਣੀ ਨਿਨਾਵੀਂ ਹੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
Son of a prostitute, friendly to everyone, has no name of his father and he is known as nameless.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਵੰਸੀਪਰਮਹੰਸਮਨਮੁਖਿਠਗਬਗਵੰਸਹਤਿਆਰਾ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਵੰਸ਼ ਪਰਮਹੰਸ ਦੇ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਹੈ, (ਦੁੱਧ ਪਾਣੀ ਅੱਡ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ), ਮਨਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਵੰਸ ਠੱਗਾ ਦੀ ਵੰਸ ਵਾਂਙੂ ਹਤਿਆਰੀ ਬਗਲੇ ਵਾਂਗ (ਮੱਛੀਆਂ ਮਾਰਣ ਵਾਲੀ) ਹੈ।
The family of gurmukhs is like paramhatis (the swans of high order which can sift milk from water i.e. truth from falsehood) and the family of the mind-oriented ones is like hypocrite cranes who kill others.
ਸਚਿਸਚਿਆਰਕੂੜਹੁਕੂੜਿਆਰਾ।੩।
ਸੱਚ ਥੋਂ ਸਚਿਆਰ ਅਤੇ ਕੂੜ ਥੋਂ ਕੂੜਿਆਰ (ਜਾਪਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗੱਲ ਕੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਘਰ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਪਰਮਹੰਸ ਹਨ, ਜੋ ਕੂੜ ਦੇ ਮਗਰ ਲੱਗ ਟੁਰੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਠਗਵੰਸੀ ਹੋਕੇ ਪਾਪ ਬੰਸੀ ਹਨ)।
From truth the truthful and from falsehood the Hers are begotten.

ਮਾਨਸਰੋਵਰੁਸਾਧਸੰਗੁਮਾਣਕਮੋਤੀਰਤਨਅਮੋਲਾ।
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਮਾਨ ਸਰੋਵਰ (ਤੀਰਥ) ਹੈ, ਮਾਣਕ ਮੋਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਰਤਨ ਅਮੋਲਕ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ ਮੰਨਨ, ਸੱਧਤਾਈ, ਵੈਰਾਗਾਦਿ ਗੁਣ ਵਿਦਮਾਨ ਹਨ)।
Manasarovar (lake) in the form of holy congregation contains in it many invaluable rubies, pearls and jewels.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਵੰਸੀਪਰਮਹੰਸਸਬਦਸੁਰਤਿਗੁਰਮਤਿਅਡੋਲਾ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਪ੍ਰਦਾਯ ਉਥੇ ਪਰਮਹੰਸ (ਹੋਕੇ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਰਖਦੀ) ਹੈ, ਸਬਦ ਦੀ ਸੁਰਤ ਵਿਖੇ ਗੁਰਮਤ ਲੈਕੇ ਅਡੋਲ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
Gurmukhs too belong to the family of swans of highest order who merging their consciousness in the Word remain stabilized.
ਖੀਰਹੁਂਨੀਰਨਿਕਾਲਦੇਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਗਿਆਨੁਧਿਆਨੁਨਿਰੋਲਾ।
ਦੁੱਧ ਥੋਂ ਪਾਣੀ ਕੱਢਦੇ ਹਨ (ਅਰਥਾਤ ਤੱਤ ਮਿਥ੍ਯਾ ਦਾ ਵਿਵੇਚਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ)। ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਗਿਆਨ ਧਿਆਨ, (ਜਗ ਥੋਂ) ਨਿਰਾਲਾ ਹੈ, (ਈਸ੍ਵਰ ਪਰਾਇਣ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ)।
Due to their power of knowledge and meditiation, the gurmukhs sift milk from water (i.e. truth from falsehood).
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸਚੁਸਲਾਹੀਐਤੋਲੁਨਤੋਲਣਹਾਰੁਅਤੋਲਾ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਸਚ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਲਾਘਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੋਲਨਹਾਰੇ ਹੋਕੇ ਅਤੋਲ (ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ) ਦੇ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਿਖੇ (ਤਤਪਰ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ)।
Eulogising the truth, gurmukhs become incomparable and their glory cannot be measured by any one.
ਮਨਮੁਖਬਗੁਲਸਮਾਧਿਹੈਘੁਟਿਘੁਟਿਜੀਆਂਖਾਇਅਬੋਲਾ।
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਬਗਲ ਸਮਾਧੀ ਮੋਨੀ ਹੋਕੇ ਘੁਟ ਘੁਟ ਕੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਖਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
Manmukh, the mind-oriented, is like a crane who silently strangulates the creatures and eats them up.
ਹੋਇਲਖਾਉਟਿਕਾਇਜਾਇਛਪੜਿਊਹੁਪੜੈਮੁਹਚੋਲਾ।
ਜਿਸ ਛੱਪੜ ਵਿਖੇ ਟਿਕਾਉ ਦਾ ਲਖਾਉ ਹੋਵੇ ਉਥੇ (ਬਗਲੇ ਦੇ) ਮੂੰਹ ਚੋਲ੍ਹਣ ਨਾਲ ਧਾਕ ਪੈ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ ਮੱਛੀਆਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਵਿਪਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਬਰਬਾਦੀ ਫੈਲਦੀ ਹੈ)।
Seeing it sitting at a pond, the creatures therein create an uproar and cries of distress.
ਸਚੁਸਾਉਕੂੜੁਗਹਿਲਾਗੋਲਾ।੪।
ਸਚ ਸਾਊ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਕੂੜ ਗਾਫਲ ਗ਼ੁਲਾਮ ਹੈ, (ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਅਧਿਕਾਰ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ)।
Truth is noble whereas falsehood is lowly slave.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਸਚੁਸੁਲਖਣਾਸਭਿਸੁਲਖਣਸਚੁਸੁਹਾਵਾ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਸੱਚ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਤੇ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਲੱਖਣਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਵਿਚ) ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਲੱਖਣ ਸੱਚੇ ਤੇ ਸੁਭਾਇਮਾਨ ਹਨ।
The true gurmukh possesses auspicious characteristics and all good marks adorn him.
ਮਨਮੁਖਕੂੜੁਕੁਲਖਣਾਸਭਕੁਲਖਣਕੂੜੁਕੁਦਾਵਾ।

Manmukh, the self-willed, keeps false marks and besides all bad characteristics in him, be possesses all deceptive tricks.

ਸੱਚ ਸੋਨਾ ਤੇ ਕੂੜ ਕੱਚ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਹੈ, ਕੱਚ ਤੇ ਸੋਨੇ ਦੇ ਮੁੱਲ ਦਾ ਮੇਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ)
Truth is gold and falsehood is like glass. Glass cannot be priced as gold.

ਸੱਚ ਭਾਰਾ ਤੇ ਕੂੜ ਹਲਕਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਰਤਨ ਦੇ ਭੁਲਾਵੇ ('ਰੱਤਕ') ਲਾਲੜੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈ ਸਕਦੀ।
Truth is invariably heavy and the falsehood light; there is not the least doubt in this.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਸੱਚੇ ਲਾਲ ਰੰਗ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, (ਜਿੱਕੁਰ) ਮਜੀਠੇ ਦਾ ਰੰਗ ਮੂਲੋਂ ਟਾਲਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਟਲਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ (ਭਾਵ ਧੋਤਿਆਂ ਉਤਰਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ)
Truth in the form of gurmukhs is such a beautiful madder colour which never fades.
ਮਨਮੁਖੁਕੂੜੁਕੁਰੰਗਹੈਫੁਲਕੁਸੁੰਭੈਥਿਰਨਰਹੰਦਾ।
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਝੂਠਾ ਖੋਟੇ ਰੰਗ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, (ਜਿੱਕੁਰ) ਕਸੁੰਭੇ ਦੇ ਫੁੱਲ (ਦਾ ਰੰਗ) ਸਥਿਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ।
The colour of mind oriented, manmukh, is like the colour of safflower which soon fades away.

ਥੋਮ ਦੀ ਵਾਸ਼ਨਾ ਥੋਂ ਨੱਕ ਮਰੋੜੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਰ ਕਸਤੂਰੀ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
The falsehood, as against truth, is like garlic contrasted to musk. At the smell of the former the nose is turned away whereas the latter's fragrance is pleasing to mind.

ਸੱਚ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਤੇ ਕੂੜ ਚੋਰ ਰੂਪ ਹੈ, ਸਾਹ (ਰਾਤ ਨੂੰ) ਸੌਂ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਚੋਰ (ਰਾਤ) ਭੌਂਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Truth and falsehood are like the bankar and the thief; the banker sleeps comfortably whereas the thief roams about hither and thither.

ਸੱਚ ਸਿਰ ਦੀ ਪੱਗ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ (ਉੱਚਾ) ਸ਼ੋਭਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕੂੜ ਕੋਝੇ ਲੰਗੋਟੈ ਵਾਂਙੂ ਅਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਜਗਾ (ਜਾ ਲਗਦਾ ਹੈ)।
The truth adorns the head like a turban but the falsehood is like a loincloth which remains in an untidy place.

Smoke also creates mist but this darkness is not similar to the darkness caused by rain clouds.
ਸਾਉਨਸਿਮਰਣਿਸੰਕਰੈਦੀਪਕਬਾਝੁਨਮਿਟੈਅੰਧਾਰਾ।
ਸ਼ੱਕਰ ਦੇ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਨ ਥੋਂ (ਮਿੱਠਾ) ਸੁਆਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ, ਦੀਵੇ ਬਾਝ ਹਨੇਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਟਦਾ।

From fruit emerges tree and nom tree the fruit; but if shellac attacks the tree, the latter is destroyed (similarly falsehood decimates the individual).

For hundreds of years, the fire remains latent in the tree, but enraged by a small spark, it destroys the ree (similarly the falsehood ever remaining in the mind, ultimately destroys the man).

The truth is medicine whereas the falsehood is a disease which inflicts the manmukhs who are without physician in the form of Guru.
ਸਚੁਸਥੋਈਕੂੜਠਗੁਲਗੈਦੁਖੁਨਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸੁਖੈ।
ਸਚ ਸਾਥੀ ਹੈ, ਕੂੜ ਠੱਗ ਹੈ (ਉਹ ਬਚਾਉਂਦਾ, ਇਹ ਲੁਟਦਾ ਹੈ), (ਪਰ) ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਦੇ ਬੀ ਦੁਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਗਦਾ, (ਸਦਾ) ਸੁਖੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਸੱਚ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ)।
Truth is companion and the falsehood a cheat who cannot make the gurmukh suffer (because they ever abide in the pleasure of truth).

ਕੂੜੇ ਆਦਮੀ ਸੜਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ('ਸਚੈ ਦੀ ਭੂਖੈ') ਸਚਿਆਰਾਂ ਦੀ (ਸਭ) ਨੂੰ ਚਾਹ ਲਗੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ ਜਿਥੇ ਜਾਣ ਆਦਰ ਤੇ ਮਾਨ ਪਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਕੂੜੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਕਾਰ ਤੇ ਅਨਾਦਰ)
Falsehood perishes and the truth is ever desired.

ਸਚੁਸੂਰਜੁਪਰਗਾਸੁਹੈਕੂੜਹੁਘੁਘੂਕੁਝੁਨਸੁਝੈ।
ਸੱਚ ਦਾ ਸੂਰਜ ਵਾਂਙ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਹੈ, ਕੂੜ ਉੱਲੂ ਨੂੰ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੁੱਝਦਾ (ਭਾਵ ਦਿਨੇ ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ)। (ਪਾਠਾਂਤ੍ਰ 'ਸੁਝ ਨ ਸੁਝੈ'=ਅਰਥਾਤ ਚਾਨਣਾ (ਸੂਰਜ) ਨਜ਼ਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ)।

ਸੱਚਾ ਅਤੇ ਝੂਠਾ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਝਾਗੜੂ (ਮੁਦਈ ਮੁਦਾਲੈ) ਹੋ ਕੇ ਨ੍ਯਾਇ ਸਭਾ ਦੇ ਚਬੂਤਰੇ ਆਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

ਕੂੜੁਸੁਤਾਸਚੁਜਾਗਦਾਸਚੁਸਾਹਿਬਦੇਮਨਿਭਾਇਆ।
ਕੂੜ' ਸੁੱਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਅਰ ਸੱਚ 'ਜਾਗਦਾ' (ਸਾਵਧਾਨ) ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਅਰ) ਸਚ ਸੱਚੇ ਸਾਹਿਬ (ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ) ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਖੇ ਭਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Since the falsehood sleeps while the truth remains awake, the truth is loved by that Lord God.

ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦਾ ਲੂਣ ਖਾਇਕੈ ਜੁੱਧ ਭੁਮਕਾ ਵਿਖੇ ਜੋ (ਸਿਪਾਹੀ) ਲੜ ਕੇ ਮਰੇ ਓਹ (ਨਿਮਕ ਹਲਾਲ) ਜਾਪਦਾ ਹੈ।
True is he who is true to the salt of his master and dies fighting for him in the battelfield.

ਤਿਸਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਜਿਹੜੀ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ (ਸਤੀ ਹੋਵੇ) ਪਰਵਾਰ ਥੇਈ ਥੱਪਦੇ ਹਨ (ਕਿ) ਵਰ ਸਰਾਪ ਦੇਂਦੀ ਹੈ (ਥੇਈ ਇਕ ਰੀਤਿ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਵਿਖੇ ਸਤੀ ਦੇ ਟੱਬਰ ਦੇ ਲੋਕ ਦੁੱਧ ਚਾਵਲ ਰਿੰਨ੍ਹਕੇ ਪਹਿਲੇ ਸਤੀ ਦੀ ਭੇਟਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਪਿੱਛੋਂ ਆਪ ਖਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਅਰ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਵਰ ਸਰਾਪ ਦੇਣਹਾਰ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ)।

(ਸਤੀ ਦੇ) ਪੁੱਤ੍ਰ ਪੋਤ੍ਰੇ ਵਡਿਆਈਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸਾਰੇ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਲਾਭ ਪੁੱਜਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ ਸਤੀ ਦੀ ਉਲਾਦ ਮੰਨੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ)। (ਸਚੇ ਸੂਰਮੇ ਅਤੇ ਸਚੇ ਸਤੀ ਹੋਣਾ ਕਿਹੜਾ ਹੈ?)।
Sons and grandsons are praised and the whole family becomes exalted.

ਵਖਤ ਦੇ ਉਪਰ ਲੜ ਮਰੇ (ਝਖੜੁ ਝਾਗੀ ਮੀਹੁ ਵਰਸੈ ਭੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇਖਣ ਜਾਇ॥') ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਵੇਲੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਦਾ ਅਲਾਪ ਕਰੇ (ਏਹ ਸਤਿਸੰਗ ਦੇ ਸੂਰਮੇ ਹਨ)।
One who dies fighting in the hour of peril and recites the Word in the ambrosial hour is known as the true warrior.

ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਖੇ ਜਾਕੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਤੇ ਆਪਾ ਭਾਵ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਕੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਇਹ ਸਤਿਸੰਗ ਦਾ ਸਚੇ ਸਤੀ ਹੋਣਾ ਹੈ)।

(ਜੁੱਧ ਵਿਖੇ) ਲੜ ਮਰਨਾ ਅਰ (ਪਤੀ ਨਾਲ) ਸਤੀ ਹੋਣਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੰਥ ਵਿਖੇ (ਉਪਰ ਕਹੀਆਂ ਤੁਕਾਂ ਵਾਂਗੂੰ ਐਉਂ) ਪੂਰਨ ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ ਧਰਮ ਵਾਂਗੂੰ ਅਟਲ ਪਰਤਾਪ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਇਤਰ ਸਤੀਆਂ ਅਗ੍ਯਾਨ ਅਰ ਸੂਰਮੇ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਆਸਰੇ ਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਸੂਰਮੇ ਤੇ ਸਤੀ ਹਉਮੈਂ ਤੋਂ ਮਰਕੇ ਅਟੱਲ ਪਦ ਨੂੰ ਪਹੁੰਚਦੇ ਹਨ)।
Dying while fighting in battle and maintaining of the controle over the senses is the grand path of the gurmukhs.

(ਜਿਸ ਵਿਖੇ) ਸੱਚਾ ਸਿਦਕ ਭਰੋਸਾ ਹੈ, (ਉਹੀ) ਸਚਾ ਪੀਰ ਪਛਾਣੀਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਸੱਚਾ ਪੀਰ ਇਕ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਅਵਤਾਰ ਹੈ)।
In whom you repose your full faith is known as the true Guru.

ਨਿਹਚਲੁਸਚਾਥੇਹੁਹੈਸਾਧਸੰਗੁਪੰਜੇਪਰਧਾਨਾ।
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ (ਰੂਪੀ) ਨਗਰ ਸੱਚਾ ਤੇ ਅਟੱਲ ਹੈ, (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਉਸ ਵਿਖੇ) ਪੰਜ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਪਰਧਾਨਤਾ ਹੈ, (ਓਹ ਪੰਜ ਗੁਣ ਕਿਹੜੇ ਹਨ?)
The city in the form of holy congregation is true and immovable because in it reside all the five chiefs (virtues).
ਸਤਿਸੰਤੋਖੁਦਇਆਧਰਮੁਅਰਥੁਸਮਰਥੁਸਭੋਬੰਧਾਨਾ।
ਸਤਿ, ਸੰਤੋਖ, ਦਇਆ, ਧਰਮ ਅਤੇ ਅਰਥ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ 'ਬੰਧਾਨ' ਸਮਰੱਥ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ ਯੋਗ ਸਰੰਜਾਮ ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ)
Truth, contentment, compassion, dharma and lucre are capable of all control.
ਗੁਰਉਪਦੇਸੁਕਮਾਵਣਾਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਨਾਮੁਦਾਨੁਇਸਨਾਨਾ।
ਗੁਰੂ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਨੂੰ ਦ੍ਰਿੜ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਲੋਕ ਨਾਮ, ਦਾਨ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ (ਤਿੰਨੇ ਕੰਮ) ਪੂਰੇ ਨਿਬਾਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
Here, the gurmukhs practise the teachings of the Guru and observe meditation on ram, charity and ablution.
ਮਿਠਾਬੋਲਣੁਨਿਵਿਚਲਣੁਹਥਹੁਦੇਣਭਗਤਿਗੁਰਗਿਆਨਾ।
ਮਿੱਠਾ ਬੋਲਦੇ, ਨਿੰਮ੍ਰੀ ਭੂਤ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ, ਹਥੋਂ ਦਾਨ ਕਰਦੇ, ਗੁਰੂ ਭਗਤੀ ਤੇ ਗ੍ਯਾਨ (ਆਰੂਢ) ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ। (ਫਲ ਕੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ?)
People speak sweet here, walk humbly, give away charities and attain knowledge through devotion to the Guru.
ਦੁਹੀਸਰਾਈਸੁਰਖਰੂਸਚੁਸਬਦੁਵਜੈਨੀਸਾਨਾ।
ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਖੇ ਸੁਰਖਰੂ (ਪਤ ਦੇ ਸੰਜੁਗਤ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ) (ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਲਈ) ਸੱਚੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੇ ਨਗਾਰੇ ਵਜਦੇ ਹਨ।
They remain free from any anxiety in this world and the world hereafter, and for them, the drums of true
ਚਲਣੁਜਿੰਨ੍ਹੀਜਾਣਿਆਜਗਅੰਦਰਿਵਿਰਲੇਮਿਹਮਾਨਾ।
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਚਲਣਾ (ਅਰਥਾਤ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਫਾਨੀ ਥੋਂ ਕੂਚ ਕਰਨਾ ਸੱਚ) ਜਾਤਾ ਹੈ (ਓਹ) ਪ੍ਰਾਹੁਣੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਵਰਲੇ ਹਨ (ਯਥਾ “ਤੇਰਾ ਜਨੁ ਏਕੁ ਆਧਿ ਕੋਈ”)।
Word are struck upon. Rare are the guests who have accepted the going away from this world, as true.
ਆਪਗਵਾਏਤਿਸੁਕੁਰਬਾਨਾ।੧੫।
ਆਪਾ ਭਾਉ ਗਵਾਉਣ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਥੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਬਲਿਹਾਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ('ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਈਐ ਤਾ ਸਹੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਅਉਰੁ ਕੈਸੀ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ')।
I am sacrifice unto them who have eschewed their ego.

ਕੂੜਅਹੀਰਾਂਪਿੰਡੁਹੈਪੰਜਦੂਤਵਸਨਿਬੁਰਿਆਰਾ।
ਲੁਟੇਰਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਪਿੰਡ ਝੂਠਾ ਹੈ, (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ) ਪੰਜ ਦੂਤ ਬੁਰੇ ਦੇ ਕਰਣਹਾਰੇ ਉਥੇ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਰਖਦੇ ਹਨ।
Falsehood is-the village of robbers where reside the five evil legates.
ਕਾਮਕਰੋਧੁਵਿਰੋਧੁਨਿਤਲੋਭਮੋਹਧ੍ਰੋਹੁਅਹੰਕਾਰਾ।
ਕਾਮ, ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਤੇ ਵਿਰੋਧ ਦੇ ਝਗੜੇ ਨਿਤ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਲੋਭ ਮੋਹਾਦਿਕ ਕਈ ਵਿਖਯ ਧ੍ਰੋਹ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
These couriers are lust, anger, disputation, greed, infatuation, treachery and ego.
ਖਿੰਜੋਤਾਣੁਅਸਾਧੁਸੰਗੁਵਰਤੈਪਾਪੈਦਾਵਰਤਾਰਾ।
ਅਸਾਧਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਖੇ 'ਖਿੰਜੋਤਾਣ' (ਦੁਖ) ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਉਥੇ) ਪਾਪ ਦਾ ਵਰਤਾਰਾ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਹੈ।
In this village of wicked company pulls, pushes and sinful conduct always operate.
ਪਰਧਨਪਰਨਿੰਦਾਪਿਆਰੁਪਰਨਾਰੀਸਿਉਵਡੇਵਿਕਾਰਾ।
ਪਰਾਏ ਧਨ, ਪਰਾਈ ਨਿੰਦਾ, ਪਰਾਈ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਯਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਕਾਰ (ਪਾਪ) ਵਧਦੇ ਹਨ (ਅਥਵਾ ਏਹ ਵਡੇ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਹਨ)।
Attachment to the others' wealth, slander and woman always persist here
ਖਲੁਹਲੁਮੂਲਿਨਚੁਕਈਰਾਜਡੰਡੁਜਮਡੰਡੁਕਰਾਰਾ।
ਮਨ ਦਾ ਭੜਥੂ ਜਾਂ ਘਬਰਾਹਟ ਕਦੇ ਹਟਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ, ਰਾਜਾ ਦਾ ਡੰਡ ਅਤੇ ਜਮ ਦਾ ਡੰਡ (ਸਿਰ ਪੁਰ) ਕੜਕਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Confusions and commotions are ever there and people always undergo punishments of state as well as of death.
ਦੁਹੀਸਰਾਈਜਰਦਰੂਜੰਮਣਮਰਣਨਰਕਿਅਵਤਾਰਾ।
ਦੋਹਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਪੀਲੇ ਰੂਹ (ਅਰਥਾਤ ਬਿਪਤੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ) ਜੰਮਣ ਮਰਣ ਅਤੇ ਨਰਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਭਾਰੇ ਦੁਖਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਆਵਾ ਜਾਈ (ਬਣੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ)।
The residents of this village are always shameful in both the worlds and go on transmigrating in the hell.
ਅਗੀਫਲਹੋਵਨਿਅੰਗਿਆਰਾ।੧੬।
ਅੱਗਾਂ ਦਾ ਫਲ ਅੰਗਿਆਰੇ ਹੀ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਭਾਵ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਦੇ ਫਲ ਮੌਤ ਤੇ ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ)
The fruits of fire are the sparks only.
ਪਉੜੀ੧੭
ਸਚੁਸਪੂਰਣਨਿਰਮਲਾਤਿਸੁਵਿਚਿਕੂੜੁਨਰਲਦਾਰਾਈ।
ਸੱਚ ਸਾਰਾ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਹੈ, (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ) ਉਸ ਵਿਖੇ ਕੂੜ ਰਾਈ ਮਾਤ੍ਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਾ ਸਕਦਾ (ਹੇਠ ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟਾਂਤ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ)।
The truth being perfectly pure, falsehood cannot mix in it as a piece of straw gone into the eye cannot be held there
ਅਖੀਕਤੁਨਸੰਜਰੈਤਿਣੁਅਉਖਾਦੁਖਿਰੈਣਿਵਿਹਾਈ।
ਅੱਖਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ (ਤ੍ਰਿਣ ਦਾ) ਕਤਰਾ ਮਾਤ੍ਰ ਬੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੰਜਰਦਾ (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ) ਤਿਣ (ਦੇ ਪਿਆਂ ਬੀ) ਔਖ ਅਤੇ ਦੁਖ ਨਾਲ ਰੈਣ ਗੁਜ਼ਰਦੀ ਹੈ (ਇਥੇ ਖ਼ਕਾਰ ਦਾ ਕੰਨਾਂ 'ਅਤੇ' ਦਾ ਵਾਚਕ ਹੈ)।
And the whole night is spent in suffering.
ਭੋਜਣਅੰਦਰਿਮਖਿਜਿਉਹੋਇਦੁਕੁਧਾਫੇਰਿਕਢਾਈ।
ਜਿਕੂੰ ਭੋਜਨ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਮੱਖੀ (ਜੇ ਨਿਗਲੀ ਜਾਵੇ) ਤਾਂ ਦੁਕੱਧੀ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਫੇਰ ਉਗਲੱਛੀਦੀ ਹੈ।
Fly in the meal also is vomited out (by body).
ਰੂਈਅੰਦਰਿਚਿਣਗਵਾਂਗਦਾਹਿਭਸਮੰਤੁਕਰੇਦੁਖਦਾਈ।
ਰੂੰਈ ਵਿੱਚ ਦੁਖਦਾਈ ਚਿਨਗਾਰੀ ਜਿੱਕੁਰ ਸਾੜਕੇ ਰੂੰਈ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਆਹ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
One spark in a load of cotton creates trouble for it, and burning the whole lot converts it into ashes.
ਕਾਂਜੀਦੁਧੁਕੁਸੁਧਹੋਇਫਿਟੈਸਾਦਹੁਵੰਨਹੁਜਾਈ।
ਦੁਧ ਕਾਂਜੀ ਦੀ ਛਿਟ ਨਾਲ ਕੁਸੁੱਧ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਫਿੱਟ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸੁਆਦ ਅਤੇ ਰੰਗੋਂ ਵਿਗੜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Vineger in milk spoils its taste and makes it discoloured.
ਮਹੁਰਾਚੁਖਕੁਚਖਿਆਪਾਤਿਸਾਹਾਮਾਰੈਸਹਮਾਈ।
ਮਹੁਰਾ ਰਤੀਕੁ ਜੀਭ ਪੁਰ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੋਇਆਂ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬੀ ਤਾਬੜ ਤੋੜ ਮਾਰ ਸਿਟਦਾ ਹੈ।
Even a little bit of poison tasted kills emperors instantly.
ਸਚਿਅੰਦਰਿਕਿਉਕੂੜੁਸਮਾਈ।੧੭।
ਸੱਚ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਕੂੜ ਦੀ ਕਿੱਕੁਰ ਸਮਾਈ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ ਕਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ)।
Then how can truth mix up in falsehood?

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸਚੁਅਲਿਪਤੁਹੈਕੂੜਹੁਲੇਪੁਨਲਗੈਭਾਈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਭਾਈ ਸੱਚੇ ਅਰ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਹਨ (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਕੂੜ ਦਾ ਲੇਪ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਗਦਾ।
Truth in the form of gurmukh ever remains detached and the falsehood has no impact on it.
ਚੰਦਨਸਪੀਂਵੇੜਿਆਚੜ੍ਹੈਨਵਿਸੁਨਵਾਸੁਘਟਾਈ।
ਚੰਦਨ ਦਾ ਬੂਟਾ ਸੱਪਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਵੇੜ੍ਹਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਹੁ ਨਹੀਂ ਚੜ੍ਹਦੀ (ਅਰ ਉਸ ਦੀ) ਸੁਗੰਧੀ ਜਿਉਂ ਦੀ ਤਿਉਂ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
Sandal wood tree is surrounded by snakes but neither the poison affects it nor its fragrance is lessened.
ਪਾਰਸੁਅੰਦਰਿਪਥਰਾਂਅਸਟਧਾਤੁਮਿਲਿਵਿਗੜਿਨਜਾਈ।
ਪਾਰਸ (ਦੀ ਗੀਟੀ) ਪੱਥਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਗਿਣੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਅੱਠਾਂ ਧਾਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਣ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਗੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦੀ (ਸਗਮਾਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੋਨਾ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ)।
Amid the stones resides the philosopher's stone but even meeting the eight metals it does not get spoiled.
ਗੰਗਸੰਗਿਅਪਵਿਤ੍ਰਜਲੁਕਰਿਨਸਕੈਅਪਵਿਤ੍ਰਮਿਲਾਈ।
ਗੰਗਾ ਨੂੰ ਅਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ (ਮੋਰੀਆਂ ਦੇ) ਜਲ ਮਿਲਕੇ ਅਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੇ, (ਸਗਮਾਂ ਆਪ ਗੰਗਾ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ)।
Polluted water mixing into the Ganges cannot pollute it.
ਸਾਇਰਅਗਿਨਲਗਈਮੇਰੁਸੁਮੇਰੁਨਵਾਉਡੁਲਾਈ।
ਸਮੁੰਦ੍ਰ ਨੂੰ ਅੱਗ ਸਾੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੀ (ਭਾਵੇਂ ਬੜਵਾਗਨ ਵਿਚੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ), ਸੁਮੇਰ (ਪਰਾੜ) ਦੇ 'ਮੇਰ' ਟਿੱਲੇ ਨੂੰ ਪੌਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਡੁਲਾ ਸਕਦੀ।
Seas are never burnt by fire and air cannot shake mountains.
ਬਾਣੁਨਧੁਰਿਅਸਮਾਣਿਜਾਇਵਾਹੇਂਦੜੁਪਿਛੈਪਛੁਤਾਈ।
ਅਕਾਸ਼ ਦੇ ਧੁਰ ਅੰਤ ਤੀਕ ਬਾਣ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ, ('ਵਾਹੇਂਦੜ') ਤੀਰ ਅੰਦਾਜ਼ ਪਿੱਛੋਂ ਪਛਤਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਮੁੜਕੇ ਉਸੇ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਆ ਲਗਦਾ ਹੈ “ਸਰ ਸੰਨ੍ਹੈ ਆਗਾਸ ਨੋ ਫਿਰਿ ਮਥੈ ਆਵੈ”)॥
The arrow can never touch the sky and the shooter repents afterwards.
ਓੜਕਿਕੂੜੁਕੂੜੋਹੁਇਜਾਈ।੧੮।
ਅੰਤ ਨੂੰ ਕੂੜ ਕੂੜ ਹੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਭਾਵ ਕੂੜ ਦਾ ਪਾਜ ਨਿਭ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਖੁਲ੍ਹ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਯਥਾ-”ਕੂੜ ਨਿਖੁਟੇ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਓੜਕਿ ਸਚਿ ਰਹੀ”)
The falshood ultimately is false.

ਸਚੁਸਚਾਵਾਮਾਣੁਹੈਕੂੜਕੂੜਾਵੀਮਣੀਮਨੂਰੀ।
ਸੱਚ ਦਾ ਸੱਚਾ ਮਾਣ (ਆਦਰ) ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕੂੜ ਦੀ ('ਮਣੀ ਮਨੂਰੀ') ਸ਼ੋਭਾ ਤੇ ਮਨੌਤ ਝੂਠੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ,
The regards for truth are always genuine and falsehood is always identified as fake.
ਕੂੜੇਕੂੜੀਪਾਇਹੈਸਚੁਸਚਾਵੀਗੁਰਮਤਿਪੂਰੀ।
ਕੂੜਿਆਰ ਦੀ ਕੂੜੀ ਅਬਰੋ ਹੈ, ਸੱਚਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਖਯਾ ਪੂਰੀ ਤੇ ਸੱਚੀ ਹੈ।
Respect of the falsehood is also artificial but the wisdom of Guru given to truth is perfect one.
ਕੂੜੈਕੂੜਾਜੋਰਿਹੈਸਚਿਸਤਾਣੀਗਰਬਗਰੂਰੀ।
ਕੂੜਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਜੋਰ ਬੀ ਕੂੜਾ ਹੈ ਸੱਚਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਗਰਬ (ਸ਼ੁਧ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਦੀ) ਗੰਭੀਰਤਾਈ ਬਲ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ।
The power of a Tier is also counterfeit and even the pious ego of truth is deep and full of gravity.
ਕੂੜੁਨਦਰਗਹਮੰਨੀਐਸਚੁਸੁਹਾਵਾਸਦਾਹਜੂਰੀ।
ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਖੇ ਕੂੜ ਦੀ ਮਾਨਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ, ਸੱਚਾ (ਪੁਰਖ) ਸਦਾ ਸੁਭਾਇਮਾਨ (ਅਰ ਪਰਮੇਸਰ ਦਾ 'ਹਜੂਰੀ') ਮੁਸਾਹਿਬ ਹੈ।
Falsehood is not recognised in the court of the Lord whereas truth always adorns His court.
ਸੁਕਰਾਨਾਹੈਸਚੁਘਰਿਕੂੜੁਕੁਫਰਘਰਿਨਾਸਾਬੂਰੀ।
ਸੱਚ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਵਿਖੇ 'ਸ਼ੁਕਰਾਨਾ' ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ ਈਸ਼ਰ ਦਾ ਧੰਨ੍ਯਵਾਦ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ) ਕੂੜ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਵਿਖੇ ਕੁਫਰ ਅਰ ਨਾ ਸਾਬੂਰੀ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ ਸੰਤੋਖ ਦਾ ਨਾਉਂ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ)।

ਸੱਚ ਦੀ ਹਾਥੀ ਵਾਂਗੂੰ ਚਾਲ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ ਮਸਤ ਹੋਕੇ ਤੁਰਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਕਈ ਲੋਕ ਠੱਠੇ ਮਸਕਰੀਆਂ ਕਰਣ ਕੁਝ ਪਰਵਾਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ) ਕੂੜ ਦੀ ਭੇਡਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਕੁਢੰਗੀ ਚਾਲ ਹੈ, (ਭਾਵ ਪੈਲੀਆਂ ਛੱਡ ਵਿਸ਼ਟਾ ਵੱਲ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

ਸਚੁਸੁਭਾਉਮਜੀਠਦਾਸਹੈਅਵਟਣਰੰਗੁਚੜ੍ਹਾਏ।
ਮਜੀਠ ਦਾ ਸੱਚਾ ਸੁਭਾਉ ਹੈ (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ) ਉਬਾਲੇ ਸਹਾਰਕੇ ਭੀ (ਦੂਣਾ) ਰੰਗ ਕੱਢਦਾ ਹੈ (ਅਜਿਹਾ ਹੀ ਉੱਤਮ ਪੁਰਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕੇਡਾ ਕਸ਼ਟ ਬਣੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਉੱਤਮਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਛੱਡਦੇ)।

ਵਾਂਸ, ਖੋਟੀ ਕਾਰ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਿਕਾਰਾ ਬੂਟਾ ਹੈ, ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚ ਆਪ ਸੜਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਆਂਢੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਬੀ ਸੜਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਇਕ ਵਾਂਸ ਦੀ ਅੱਗ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਰੇ ਵਾਂਸ ਸੜਕੇ ਢੇਰੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ)।

Truth is accepted in the court of the Lord, but, the falshood is punished in the same court.
