ਕੁਤਾਰਾਜਿਬਹਾਲੀਐਫਿਰਿਚਕੀਚਟੈ।
ਕੁੱਤੇ ਨੂੰ ਰਾਜ (ਸਿੰਘਾਸਣ) ਪਰ ਬਹਾਲੀਏ ਫੇਰ (ਬੀ) ਚੱਕੀ ਹੀ ਚੱਟੇਗਾ।
If a dog is seated on the throne even then it will (like to) lick the flour mill.
ਸਪੈਦੁਧੁਪੀਆਲੀਐਵਿਹੁਮੁਖਹੁਸਟੈ।
ਸੱਪ ਨੂੰ ਦੁੱਧ (ਬੀ) ਪਿਆਈਏ ਫੇਰ ਬੀ ਮੂੰਹ ਥੋਂ ਵਿਹੁ ਹੀ ਸੱਟੂ।
If a snake is fed on milk even then it will pour out poison from its mouth.
ਪਥਰੁਪਾਣੀਰਖੀਐਮਨਿਹਠੁਨਘਟੈ।
ਪੱਥਰ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ (ਕਿੰਨਾਂ) ਰੱਖੀਏ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਦਾ ('ਹਠ') ਕਠੱਰ ਪੁਣਾ ਨਹੀ ਘਟੂ।
If a stone is kept in water even then its hardness does not soften.
ਚੋਆਚੰਦਨੁਪਰਿਹਰੈਖਰੁਖੇਹਪਲਟੈ।
ਖੋਤਾ ਚੋਆ, ਚੰਦਨਾਦਿ (ਸੁੰਗਧੀਆਂ) ਨੂੰ ਤਿਆਗਕੇ ਖੇਹ ਵਿਖੇ ਲੇਟਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਦਾਰਸ਼ਟਾਂਤ ਪੰਜਵੀਂ ਤੁਕ ਵਿਖੇ ਦਸਦੇ ਹਨ)।
Repudiating the perfume and sandalwood-fragrance, the donkey rolls its body in the dust.
ਤਿਉਨਿੰਦਕਪਰਨਿੰਦਹੂਹਥਿਮੂਲਿਨਹਟੈ।
ਇੱਕੁਰ ਹੀ ਪਰਾਈ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਹਠ ਤੋਂ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਕਦਾਚਿਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਟਦਾ, (ਇਸ ਦਾ ਫਲ ਬੀ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਭੋਗਦਾ ਹੈ)।
Similarly the backbiter never gives up (his habit of) backbiting
ਆਪਣਹਥੀਂਆਪਣੀਜੜਆਪਿਉਪਟੈ।੧।
ਆਪਣੇ ਹੱਥੀਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਜੜ੍ਹ ਨੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਪੁੱਟਦਾ ਹੈ।
And uproots himselt to destroy his very existence.
ਪਉੜੀ੨
ਕਾਉਂਕਪੂਰਨਚਖਈਦੁਰਗੰਧਿਸੁਖਾਵੈ।
ਕਾਂ ਕਪੂਰ ਨੂੰ ਚੱਖਦਾ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ, (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਵਿਸ਼ਟਾ ਹੀ ਭਾਂਵਦਾ ਹੈ।
Crow never picks up camphor; it likes to have garbage around.
ਹਾਥੀਨੀਰਿਨ੍ਹਵਾਲੀਐਸਿਰਿਛਾਰੁਉਡਾਵੈ।
ਹਾਥੀ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਖੇ ਨਵਾਈਏ ਸਿਰ ਪੁਰ ਸੁਆਹ ਹੀ ਉਡਾਂਵਦਾ ਹੈ।
The elephant even bathed in water puts dust on its head.
ਤੁੰਮੇਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਸਿੰਜੀਐਕਉੜਤੁਨਜਾਵੈ।
ਤੁੰਮੇ ਨੂੰ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ (ਦੁੱਧ) ਕਿੰਨਾ ਹੀ ਸਿੰਜੀਏ ਕੌੜੱਤਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦੀ।
The colocynth (tumma) even if irrigated with nectar does not part with its bitterness.
ਸਿਮਲੁਰੁਖੁਸਰੇਵੀਐਫਲੁਹਥਿਨਆਵੈ।
ਸਿੰਮਲ ਬ੍ਰਿੱਛ ਨੂੰ ਕਿੰਨਾ ਪਾਲੀਏ ਫਲ (ਉਸ ਥੋਂ ਕੁਝ) ਹੱਥ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ।
Even if the silk-cotton tree is well served (with water and manure etc.), no fruit is gained from it.
ਨਿੰਦਕੁਨਾਮਵਿਹੂਣਿਆਸਤਿਸੰਗਨਭਾਵੈ।
(ਤਿਹਾ ਹੀ) ਨਿੰਦਕ ਲੋਕ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਹਨ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਤਿਸੰਗ ਨਹੀਂ ਭਾਉਂਦਾ (ਸਗਮਾਂ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਵਿਖੇ ਲੱਕ ਬੰਨ੍ਹੀ ਰਖਦੇ ਹਨ)।
The backbiters being devoid of the neim of the Lord, do not like the holy congregation.
ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾਆਗੂਜੇਥੀਐਸਭੁਸਾਥੁਮੁਹਾਵੈ।੨।
ਜੇਕਰ ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾ ਆਗੂ (ਰਾਹ ਦੱਸਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੋਕੇ) ਅੱਗੇ ਲੱਗੂ, ਤਦੋਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਸਾਥ ਨੂੰ ਟੁਟ ਬੈਠੂ।
If the leader is blind, the whole company is bound to be robbed of (their valuables).
ਪਉੜੀ੩
ਲਸਣੁਲੁਕਾਇਆਨਾਲੁਕੈਬਹਿਖਾਜੈਕੂਣੈ।
ਭਾਵੇਂ ਖੂੰਜੇ ਵਿਖੇ ਬੈਠਕੇ (ਭਾਵ ਲੁਕਕੇ) ਥੋਮ ਖਾਈਏ, ਲੁਕਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, (ਮੁਸ਼ਕ ਥੋਂ ਮਲੂਮ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ)।
The smell of garlic cannot be concealed even if it is eaten in a remote corner.
ਕਾਲਾਕੰਬਲੁਉਜਲਾਕਿਉਂਹੋਇਸਬੂਣੈ।
ਕਾਲੇ ਭੂਰੇ ਨੂੰ ਕਿੰਨਾ ਸਬੂਣ ਮਲੋ, ਕਿੱਕੁਰ (ਉੱਜਲਾ) ਚਿੱਟਾ ਹੋਵੇ (ਭਾਵ ਕਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ)।
No soap how so much applied, can turn the black blanket into white.
ਡੇਮੂਖਖਰਜੋਛੁਹੈਦਿਸੈਮੁਹਿਸੂਣੈ।
ਡੇਮੂੰ ਦੀ ਖੱਖਰ ਨੂੰ ਜੋ ਹੱਥ ਪਾਉ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮੂੰਹ ਸੁਜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਦਿੱਸੂ।
Whosoever will touch the hive of poisonous wasps will find his face swollen.
ਕਿਤੈਕੰਮਿਨਆਵਈਲਾਵਣੁਬਿਨੁਲੂਣੈ।
ਸਲੂਣੇ (ਜਾਂ ਭਾਜੀ) ਵਿਚ ਲੂਣ ਨਾ ਪਾਓ ਤਾਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਕੰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਊ।
The cooked vegetable devoid of salt is absolutely useless.
ਨਿੰਦਕਿਨਾਮਵਿਸਾਰਿਆਗੁਰਗਿਆਨੁਵਿਹੂਣੈ।
(ਤਿਹਾ ਹੀ) ਨਿੰਦਕਾ ਨੇ ਨਾਮ ਭੁਲਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ, (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਗਿਆਨ ਥੋਂ ਬਾਝ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਫਲ ਛੀਵੀਂ ਤੁਕ ਵਿਖੇ ਦੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ)
Without the knowledge of the true Guru, the backbiter has neglected the name of the Lord.
ਹਲਤਿਪਲਤਿਸੁਖੁਨਾਲਹੈਦੁਖੀਆਸਿਰੁਝੂਣੈ।੩।
ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਖੇ ਸੁਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਉਂਦੇ, ਦੁਖੀ ਰਹਿਕੇ (ਸਦੀਵਕਾਲ) ਸਿਰ ਨੂੰ ਝੂਣਦੇ (ਹਿਲਾਉਂਦੇ) ਹਨ।
He gets happiness neither here nor there and always laments and repents.
ਪਉੜੀ੪
ਡਾਇਣੁਮਾਣਸਖਾਵਣੀਪੁਤੁਬੁਰਾਨਮੰਗੈ।
ਡਾਇਣ (ਭਾਵੇਂ) ਮਨੁਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਖਾ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, (ਪਰੰਤੂ ਆਪਣੀ) ਸੰਤਾਨ (ਪੁਤ ਧੀ) ਦਾ ਬੁਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਚਾਹੁੰਦੀ।
The witch is man eater but she also does not contemplate wrong for her son.
ਵਡਾਵਿਕਰਮੀਆਖੀਐਧੀਭੈਣਹੁਸੰਗੈ।
ਵਡਾ ਕੁਕਰਮੀ (ਬੀ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ) ਕਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਉਹ ਬੀ) ਧੀ ਭੈਣ ਨਾਲ (ਸੰਗ ਕਰਨੋਂ) ਸੰਗਦਾ ਹੈ।
Even known as the most vicious man, he also feels ashamed before his daughter and sister.
ਰਾਜੇਧ੍ਰੋਹੁਕਮਾਂਵਦੇਰੈਬਾਰਸੁਰੰਗੈ।
ਰਾਜੇ ਆਪੋ ਵਿਖੇ ਧੋਹ (ਖੂੰਨ ਤੇ ਦਗੇ) ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਵਿਚੋਲੇ ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ ਧ੍ਰੋਹੀ ਰਾਜੇ ਬੀ ਸਫੀਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਾਰਦੇ ਅਥਵਾ 'ਰੈਬਾਰ' ਵਿਚੋਲੇ 'ਸੁਰੰਗੇ' ਦਾਰੂ ਦੀਆਂ ਸੁਰੰਗਾਂ ਲਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਵੈਰੀ ਦਾ ਨਾਸ਼ ਹੋਵੇ ਪਰ ਇਹ ਖਿੱਚ ਹੈ)।
The kings, trecherous for each other, put no harm to the amabassadors (and they live comfortably).
ਬਜਰਪਾਪਨਉਤਰਨਿਜਾਇਕੀਚਨਿਗੰਗੈ।
(ਓਹ) ਪਾਪ ਬੱਜਰ (ਵਡੇ ਕਰੜੇ ਤੇ ਕਠੋਰ ਹਨ) ਜੋ ਪਾਪ ਤਿਆਗ ਦੇ ਸਥਾਨਾਂ ਪੁਰ ਜਾਕੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਜਾਣ ਓਹ ਉਤਰਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ। (ਭਾਵ ਇਹ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਜਿੱਕੁਰ ਡੈਣ ਪਾਪਣ ਆਪਣਾ ਪੁੱਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਾਰਦੀ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਘੋਰ ਪਾਪੀ ਤੀਰਥਾਂ ਤੇ ਪਾਪ ਕਰਨੋਂ ਸੰਗਦੇ ਹਨ। ਹੁਣ ਸਿਧਾਂਤ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਧੁਨੀ ਨਾਲ ਭਾਵ ਇਹ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਡਾਇਣ ਪੁਤ ਖਾਵੇ, ਵਿਕਰਮ
The sins committed at Ganges (the religious places) are as hard as the thunderbolt and never fade out.
ਥਰਹਰਕੰਬੈਨਰਕੁਜਮੁਸੁਣਿਨਿੰਦਕਨੰਗੈ।
ਥਰ ਥਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਥਾਲੀ ਦੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਾਂਗੂੰ) ਨਰਕ ਤੇ ਜਮ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਦਾ ਕਰਮ ਸੁਣਕੇ ਕੰਬਦੇ ਹਨ (ਕਿ ਹਾਇ ! ਅਸੀਂ ਅਧੋਗਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਨਾ ਚਲੇ ਜਾਈਏ)। ਅੱਗੇ ਨਿੰਦਕਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਵੱਡੇ ਨਿੰਦਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਗਤੀ ਦੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ)।
Listening to the naked meanness of the slanderer, Yama of the hell also trembles.
ਨਿੰਦਾਭਲੀਨਕਿਸੈਦੀਗੁਰਨਿੰਦਕੁਢੰਗੈ।੪।
ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਨੀ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੀ ਬੀ ਚੰਗੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, (ਪਰੰਤੂ) ਗੁਰੂ ਨਿੰਦ ਤਾਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਹੀ ਖੋਟਾ ਕਰਮ ਹੈ।
Backbiting of any one is bad but the vilification of the Guru is the worst (way of life).
ਪਉੜੀ੫
ਨਿੰਦਾਕਰਿਹਰਣਾਖਸੈਵੇਖਹੁਫਲੁਵਟੈ।
ਹਰਨਾਕਸ਼ ਨੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਰਦ ਦੀ) ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਕਹਿ ਫਲ ਪਾਯਾ, (ਭਾਵ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਤੇ ਅਪਜਸ ਹੋਇਆ)।
Hirrtyakyapu talked adversely about God and the result gained is clear that he eventually got killed.
ਲੰਕਲੁਟਾਈਰਾਵਣੈਮਸਤਕਿਦਸਕਟੈ।
ਰਾਵਣ ਨੇ (ਵਿਸ਼ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਪਹਿਲੇ ਦੁਆਰਪਾਲ ਸੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਕੇ) ਲੰਕਾ ਲੁਟਾਈ ਤੇ ਦਸ ਸਿਰ ਕਟਵਾਏ।
Ravan also for the same reason got Lanka looted and his ten heads slayed.
ਕੰਸੁਗਇਆਸਣਲਸਕਰੈਸਭਦੈਤਸੰਘਟੈ।
(ਇਸੇ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ) ਕੰਸ ਲਸ਼ਕਰਾਂ ਸਮੇਤ ਗਿਆ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੈਂਤ ਨਾਲ ਮਾਰੇ ਗਏ (ਕੰਸ ਬੀ ਦੁਆਰਪਾਲ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਹੀ ਸੀ)।
Kans was killed along with his full army and his all the demons perished.
ਵੰਸੁਗਵਾਇਆਕੈਰਵਾਂਖੂਹਣਿਲਖਫਟੈ।
ਕੈਰਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਵੰਸ਼ ਬੀ (ਗੁਰੂ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਨਾਲ) ਗਿਆ, ਲੱਖਾਂ ਖੂਹਣੀਆਂ (ਫੌਜ ਬੀ) ਫੱਟੀ ਗਈ।
The Kauravas lost their dynasty and got their myriads of army destroyed.
ਦੰਤਬਕਤ੍ਰਸਿਸਪਾਲਦੇਦੰਦਹੋਏਖਟੈ।
ਸਸਪਾਲ ਦੰਤ ਬਕਤ (ਦੇ ਬੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਕੇ) ਦੰਦ ਖੱਟੇ ਹੋਏ (ਭਾਵ ਦੁਖ ਪਾਯਾ)।
For the same reason, Dantavaktr and Siupál got crushing defeat.
ਨਿੰਦਾਕੋਇਨਸਿਝਿਓਇਉਵੇਦਉਘਟੈ।
ਧਰਮ ਪੁਸਤਕ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਕੋਈ ਸਿਝਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ (ਕਾਮਯਾਬ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਇਆ)।
The Vedas also dilineate that no success is possible through back-biting
ਦੁਰਬਾਸੇਨੇਸਰਾਪਦੇਯਾਦਵਸਭਿਤਟੈ।੫।
ਯਾਦਵਾਂ (ਨੋ ਗੁਰਨਿੰਦਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਗੁਰ) ਦੁਰਬਾਸ਼ਾ ਨੇ ਸਰਾਪ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਯਾਦਵ ਉਜਾੜ ਦਿੱਤੇ।☬ਭਾਵ - ਜੋ ਚੌਥੀ ਪਉੜੀ ਵਿਚ ਕਿਹਾ ਸੇ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਲੋਕ ਪ੍ਰਸਿੱਧ ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟਾਂਤ ਦੇਕੇ ਅਪਣੇ ਭਾਵ ਨੂੰ ਏਥੇ ਸਫੁਟ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।
. (Due to this vilification) Durvasà. cursed Yadays and vanquished them all.
ਪਉੜੀ੬
ਸਭਨਾਂਦੇਸਿਰਗੁੰਦੀਅਨਿਗੰਜੀਗੁਰੜਾਵੈ।
ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਪੁਰ ਵਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਉਹ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਗੁੰਦੀਦੇ ਦੇਖਕੇ ਮਲ ਵਿਖੇ ਗੁਰੜਾਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
The hairs of all are dressed but the bald lady mumbles.
ਕੰਨਿਤਨਉੜੇਕਾਮਣੀਬੂੜੀਬਰਿੜਾਵੈ।
ਬੱਚੀ (ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਕੰਨ ਨਹੀਂ) ਉਹ ਕਾਮਣੀ (ਸਹੇਲੀਆਂ) ਦੇ ਕੰਨੀਂ 'ਤਨਉੜੇ' (ਪਿੱਪਲਾਵੱਤ੍ਰੇ) ਦੇਖਕੇ ਬੁੜ ਬੁੜ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ, (ਕੁੜ੍ਹਦੀ ਹੈ)।
The beautiful woman wears the earnings but the earless one grumbles.
ਨਥਾਂਨਕਿਨਵੇਲੀਆਂਨਕਟੀਨਸੁਖਾਵੈ।
ਨੱਕ ਵੰਢੀ ਨੂੰ ਨਵੇਲੀਆਂ' (ਸਹੇਲਣਾਂ) ਦੇ ਨੱਕੀਂ ਨੱਥਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੁਖਾਉਂਦੀਆਂ।
The newly wed girls wear nose rings but the noseless feels uncomfortable (for not being able to wear nose ring).
ਕਜਲਅਖੀਂਹਰਣਾਖੀਆਂਕਾਣੀਕੁਰਲਾਵੈ।
ਅੱਖੋਂ ਕਾਣੀ 'ਹਰਣਾਖੀਆਂ' (ਅਰਥਾਤ ਹਰਣ ਵਾਂਗੂੰ ਸੋਹਣੀਆਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ) ਦੋ ਅਖੀਂ ਕੱਜਲ ਪਿਆ ਵੇਖ ਕੁਰਲਾਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ (ਦੁਖਦੀ ਹੈ)।
The deer-eyed ladies put in the collyrium but the one-eyed wails and cries.
ਸਭਨਾਂਚਾਲਸੁਹਾਵਣੀਲੰਗੜੀਲੰਗੜਾਵੈ।
ਸਾਰੀਆਂ (ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ) ਦੀ ਚਾਲ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਹੈ, ਲੰਗੜੀ ਲੰਗੜਾ ਲੰਗੜਾ ਕੇ ਤੁਰਦੀ ਹੈ, (ਹੇਠ ਛੀਵੀਂ ਤੁਕ ਵਿਖੇ ਉਕਤ ਪਉੜੀ ਦਾ ਸਿੱਧਾਂਤ ਕੱਢਦੇ ਹਨ)।
All have a pleasing gait but the lame limps.
ਗਣਤਗਣੈਗੁਰਦੇਵਦੀਤਿਸੁਦੁਖਿਵਿਹਾਵੈ।੬।
ਜੋ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਦੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰੇ (ਉਹ ਉਪਰ ਕਥੇ ਅਪਾਹਜਾਂ ਵਾਂਗੂੰ) ਦੁਖਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਦਿਨ ਕਟੇਗਾ।
Those who slander the Guru, spend their life in sorrows.
ਪਉੜੀ੭
ਅਪਤੁਕਰੀਰੁਨਮਉਲੀਐਦੇਦੋਸੁਬਸੰਤੈ।

ਨਿੰਦਕ ਦਾ (ਜੋ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਜਨਮ ਅਕਾਰਥ ਹੀ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਸੁਧਰਨ ਦਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਯਤਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ)।
Slandering the Guru, the whole life elapses in vain.
ਪਉੜੀ੮
ਨਾਤਿਸੁਭਾਰੇਪਰਬਤਾਂਅਸਮਾਨਖਹੰਦੇ।
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਭਾਵ ਧਰਤੀ ਨੁੰ) ਪਰਬਤ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਅਸਮਾਨ ਨਾਲ ਖਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਭਾਰੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਪਦੇ।
The sky-touching mountains also are not of much weight (than the ungrateful person).
ਨਾਤਿਸੁਭਾਰੇਕੋਟਗੜ੍ਹਘਰਬਾਰਦਿਸੰਦੇ।
ਕੋਟ ਗੜ ਘਰ ਬਾਰ ਜੋ, ਦਿਸੱਦੇ ਹਨ, ਨਾ ਹੀ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਏਹ ਭਾਰੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ।
The visible forts are also not as weighty as he (the ungrateful person) is;
ਨਾਤਿਸੁਭਾਰੇਸਾਇਰਾਂਨਦਵਾਹਵਹੰਦੇ।
ਸਮੰਦ੍ਰ, ਨਦ ਵਾਹੜੇ ਜੋ ਚਲ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਨਾ ਹੀ ਏਹ ਭਾਰੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ।
Those oceans in which will the rivers merge are also not as heavy as he is;
ਨਾਤਿਸੁਭਾਰੇਤਰੁਵਰਾਂਫਲਸੁਫਲਫਲੰਦੇ।
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਬ੍ਰਿੱਛ ਬੀ ਭਾਰੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਜੋ ਚੰਗੇ ਫਲਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਬੀ ਭਰੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ।
The fruit laden trees are also not as heavy as he is
ਨਾਤਿਸੁਭਾਰੇਜੀਅਜੰਤਅਣਗਣਤਫਿਰੰਦੇ।
ਜੀਵ ਜੰਤੂ (ਵੱਡੇ ਛੋਟੇ) ਅਨਗਿਣਤ ਜੋ ਫਿਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਉਸ ਨੁੰ (ਉਹ ਭੀ) ਕੋਈ ਭਾਰੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ।
And nor those innumerable creatures are as heavy as he is.
ਭਾਰੇਭੁਈਂਅਕਿਰਤਘਣਮੰਦੀਹੂਮੰਦੇ।੮।
(ਪਰ ਧਰਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਅਕਿਰਤਘਣ ਭਾਰੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ। (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਅਕਿਰਤਘਣ) ਮੰਦਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਮੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
In fact the ungrateful person is burden on earth and he is evil of evils.
ਪਉੜੀ੯
ਮਦਵਿਚਿਰਿਧਾਪਾਇਕੈਕੁਤੇਦਾਮਾਸੁ।
(ਇਕ ਚੁਹੜੀ ਨੇ) ਕੁੱਤੇ ਦਾ ਮਾਸ ਸ਼ਰਾਬ ਵਿਚ ਪਾਕੇ ਰਿੱਧਾ।
The meat of dog cooked in the wine was, along with its foul smell, kept in the human skull.
ਧਰਿਆਮਾਣਸਖੋਪਰੀਤਿਸੁਮੰਦੀਵਾਸੁ।
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਖੋਪਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ। (ਇਸ ਕਰਕੇ) ਉਸ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਭੈੜੀ ਵਾਸ਼ਨਾ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਸੀ।

ਰਤੂਭਰਿਆਕਪੜਾਕਰਿਕਜਣੁਤਾਸੁ।
ਲਹੂ ਦੇ ਭਰੇ ਹੋਏ ਕੱਪੜੇ ਨਾਲ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਕੱਜਕੇ।

ਢਕਿਲੈਚਲੀਚੂਹੜੀਕਰਿਭੋਗਬਿਲਾਸੁ।
ਭੋਗ ਬਿਲਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਚੂਹੜੀ ਲਈ ਚਲੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਸੀ।
On being asked about (the abominable covered material)
ਆਖਿਸੁਣਾਏਪੁਛਿਆਲਾਹੇਵਿਸਵਾਸੁ।
(ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ) ਪੁੱਛਿਆ (ਕਿ ਇਸ ਵਿਖੇ ਕਿਹੜੀ ਅਦਭੁਤ ਚੀਜ਼ ਹੈ ਤੂੰ ਢੱਕ ਕੇ ਪਰਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਲਈ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈਂ?) ਉਸ ਨੇ ਸੰਸੇ ਦੇ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਲ ਲਈ ਆਪ ਸੁਣਾਇਆ।
She cleared the doubt by saying that she had covered the meat to hide
ਨਦਰੀਪਵੈਅਕਿਰਤਘਣੁਮਤੁਹੋਇਵਿਣਾਸੁ।੯।
ਜੇਕਰ ਕ੍ਰਿਤਘਨ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੀ ਇਸ ਪੁਰ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਪੈ ਜਾਉ ਤਾਂ ਇਹ ਫਿਟ ਜਾਊ (ਫੇਰ ਸਾਡੇ ਖਾਣ ਦੇ ਕੰਮ ਦਾ ਨਾ ਰਹੂ, ਇਸ ਲਈ ਭੈੜੇ ਲਹੂ ਦੇ ਭਰੇ ਹੋਏ ਕੱਪੜੇ ਨਾਲ ਢੱਕਿਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਮਾਸ ਭੈੜੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਗੜ ਨਾ ਜਾਵੇ)।

ਚੋਰੁਗਇਆਘਰਿਸਾਹਦੈਘਰਅੰਦਰਿਵੜਿਆ।
ਚੋਰ (ਚੋਰੀ ਕਰਨ ਨੂੰ) ਗਿਆ ਸੀ, ਦੌਲਤਮੰਦ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਵੜ ਗਿਆ।
A thief entered the house of a rich person.
ਕੁਛਾਕੂਣੈਭਾਲਦਾਚਉਬਾਰੇਚੜ੍ਹਿਆ।
('ਕੁਛ ਕੁਨਾਂ') ਸਾਰੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਦੇਖਕੇ। ਜਦ ਕੁਝ ਹੱਥ ਨਾ ਆਇਆ) ਚੁਬਾਰੇ ਜਾ ਚੜਿਆ।
Carefully watching the four corners he came to the upper room.
ਸੁਇਨਾਰੁਪਾਪੰਡਬੰਨ੍ਹਿਅਗਲਾਈਅੜਿਆ।
ਸੋਨੇ ਚਾਂਦੀ (ਦੇ ਗਹਿਣਿਆਂ) ਦੀ ਪੰਡ ਬੰਨ੍ਹ ਲਈ, (ਪਰੰਤੂ 'ਅਗਲਾਈ ਅੜਿਆ') ਹੋਰ (ਮਾਯਾ) ਦੇ (ਲੈਣ ਦੇ ਲਾਲਚ) ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆ।
He gathered the money and gold and tied them in a bundle; but still his greed delayed him.
ਲੋਭਲਹਰਿਹਲਕਾਇਆਲੂਣਹਾਂਡਾਫੜਿਆ।
ਲੋਭ ਦੀ ਲਹਿਰ ਨਾਲ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਹਲਕ ਕੁੱਦਿਆ, ਇਕ ਲੂਣ ਦਾ ਭਾਂਡਾ (ਖੰਡ ਦਾ ਜਾਣ ਕੇ) ਫੜ ਲੀਤਾ।
Getting impatient in greed he caught hold of a salt-pot.
ਚੁਖਕੁਲੈਕੇਚਖਿਆਤਿਸੁਕਖੁਨਖੜਿਆ।
ਰਤੀਕੁ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਲੂਣ ਜੀਭ ਪਰ ਰਖਕੇ ਚਖਿਆ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਕੱਖ ਬੀ ਨਾ ਲੀਤਾ, (ਇਹ ਸਮਝ ਕੇ ਕਿ ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਦਾ ਲੂਣ ਚਲਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਲੂਣ ਹਰਾਮੀ ਹੋਣਾ ਮੈਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ)।

ਲੂਣਹਰਾਮੀਗੁਨਹਗਾਰੁਧੜੁਧੰਮੜਧੜਿਆ।੧੦।
ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ) ਲੂਣ ਹਰਾਮੀ ਗੁਨਾਹੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਰੱਬ ਦੀ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਖੇ) ਧੜ (ਕਹੀਏ ਢੋਲ) ਵਾਂਗੂੰ ('ਧੰਮੜ') ਚੋਥਾਂ ਨਾਲ (ਧੜੀ) ਵਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਦੇਹ ਬਿਦੇਹ ਪਿੰਡ ਪੁਰ ਚੋਬਾ ਪੈਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਅਥਵਾ ਧੜ ਧੜ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਢੋਲ ਵਾਂਗੂੰ ਕੁੱਟੀਦਾ ਹੈ)।
That thief also knew, that an ungrateful person is beaten like a drum (in the Lord's court).
ਪਉੜੀ੧੧
ਖਾਧੇਲੂਣਗੁਲਾਮਹੋਇਪੀਹਿਪਾਣੀਢੋਵੈ।
(ਨੌਕਰ) ਲੂਣ ਦੇ ਖਾਣ ਨਾਲ ਗੁਲਾਮ (ਮੁੱਲ ਵਾਂਗੂੰ ਚੱਕੀ) ਪੀਂਹਦਾ ਪਾਣੀ (ਦੀਆਂ ਗਾਗਰਾਂ) ਢੋਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Having eaten the salt (of a person), man becoming servant fetches water and grinds the corn.
ਲੂਣਖਾਇਕਰਿਚਾਕਰੀਰਣਿਟੁਕਟੁਕਹੋਵੈ।
(ਚਾਕਰ) ਲੂਣ ਖਾਕੇ 'ਚਾਕਰੀ' ਕਰਦਾ, ਰਣ ਵਿਖੇ ਟੁਕੜੇ ਟੁਕੜੇ ਹੋਕੇ ਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Such a faithful, in the battlefield gets killed piece to piece for the master.
ਲੂਣਖਾਇਧੀਪੁਤੁਹੋਇਸਭਲਜਾਧੋਵੈ।
ਧੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਪੁੱਤ੍ਰ ਮਾਪਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਲੂਣ ਖਾਕੇ (ਕੁਟੰਬ ਦੀਆਂ) ਲੱਜਾ ਧੋਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
The faithful sons and daughters wash all the shames of the family.
ਲੂਣੁਵਣੋਟਾਖਾਇਕੈਹਥਜੋੜਿਖੜੋਵੈ।
(ਸ਼ਾਹ ਦਾ) ਗੁਮਾਸ਼ਤਾ ਲੂਣ ਖਾਕੇ (ਮਾਲਕ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ) ਹਥ ਜੋੜਕੇ ਖੜੋਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
The salt eater servant always stands with folded hands.
ਵਾਟਵਟਾਊਲੂਣੁਖਾਇਗੁਣੁਕੰਠਿਪਰੋਵੈ।
ਰਸਤੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਮੁਸਾਫਰ ਲੂਣ ਖਾਕੇ ਗੁਣਾ ਦਾ ਕੰਨ ਵਿਖੇ ਹਾਰ ਪਰੋਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਭਾਵ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਜਾਵੇ ਉਥੇ ਹੀ ਉਸਤਤਿ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਮੂੰਹ ਸੁੱਕਦਾ ਹੈ)।
The passerby eulogizes the person whose salt be has eaten.
ਲੂਣਹਰਾਮੀਗੁਨਹਗਾਰਮਰਿਜਨਮੁਵਿਗੋਵੈ।੧੧।
ਲੂਣ ਖਾਕੇ ਜੋ ਹਰਾਮ ਕਰੇ, ਓਹ ਪਾਪੀ (ਚੌਰਾਸੀ ਲਖ ਜੂਨੀਆਂ ਵਿਖੇ) ਮਰਦਾ ਜੰਮਦਾ ਖਰਾਬ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
But the ungrateful person commits sins and he loses his life in vain and dies.

ਜਿਉਮਿਰਯਾਦਾਹਿੰਦੂਆਂਗਊਮਾਸੁਅਖਾਜੁ।
(ਧਰਮਸਾਲਾ ਦੇ ਮਾਲ੍ਹ ਪੂੜੇ ਆਦਿ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੀ ਬਾਹਲੀ ਲਾਲਸਾ ਦਾ ਵਰਣਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਲਿਖਦੇ ਹਨ) ਜਿੱਕੁਰ ਹਿੰਦੂਆਂ ਦੀ ਮਰਜਾਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਗਊ ਦਾ ਮਾਸ ('ਅਖਾਜ') ਹਰਾਮ ਮੰਨਕੇ (ਭੱਛਨ ਤਾਂ ਕਿਧਰੇ ਰਿਹਾ, ਨਾਉਂ ਸੁਣਕੇ ਬੀ ਮੂੰਹੋਂ ਥੁਕਾਂ ਸਿੱਟਦੇ ਹਨ)
As the cow meat is forbidden in Hindu code of conduct;
ਮੁਸਲਮਾਣਾਂਸੂਅਰਹੁਸਉਗੰਦਵਿਆਜੁ।
ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਸੂਰ ਦੇ ਮਾਸ ਥੋਂ ਅਰ ਵਿਆਜ ਦੇ ਖਾਣ ਥੋਂ ਸੌਂਹ ਪਾਈ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ।
The Musalmans pledge against the pork and the interest on money;
ਸਹੁਰਾਘਰਿਜਾਵਾਈਐਪਾਣੀਮਦਰਾਜੁ।
ਸਹੁਰਾ ਜਵਾਈ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਦਾ ਪਾਣੀ ਬੀ ਸ਼ਰਾਬ (ਵਾਂਗੂੰ ਅਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਅਰ ਕੌੜਾ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਧੀ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਦੀ ਰੋਟੀ ਤਾਂ ਕਿਧਰੇ ਰਹੀ ਪਾਣੀ ਸਾਰਖਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਗ੍ਰਹਣ ਕਰਨਾ)।
For father-in-law, even the water of the house of son-in-law is prohibited like the wine;
ਸਹਾਨਖਾਈਚੂਹੜਾਮਾਇਆਮੁਹਤਾਜੁ।
ਚੂਹੜਾ ਸਹੇ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਭਾਵੇਂ) ਮਾਯਾ ਥੋਂ (ਮੁਹਤਾਜ) ਗਰੀਬ ਬੀ ਹੋਵੇ। (ਭਾਵ ਭੁੱਖਾ ਬੀ ਹੋਵੇ)।
The scanvenger eats not rabbit, though he be hard of money;
ਜਿਉਮਿਠੈਮਖੀਮਰੈਤਿਸੁਹੋਇਅਕਾਜੁ।
ਜਿੱਕੁਰ ('ਮਿੱਠੇ') ਸ਼ਹਤ ਪੁਰ ਮੱਖੀ ਦੇ (ਮਰੇ ਕਹੀਏ) ਮੋਹਤ ਹੋਣ ਨਾਲ ਅਕਾਜ ਹੋਵੇ ਹੈ। (ਭਾਵ ਨਾਸ਼ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
As the dead fly makes the taste of sweet bad and the sweet getting poisonous becomes useless,
ਤਿਉਧਰਮਸਾਲਦੀਝਾਕਹੈਵਿਹੁਖੰਡੂਪਾਜੁ।੧੨।
ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ (ਸਿਖ ਲਈ) ਧਰਮਸਾਲਾ (ਦੇ ਪੂਜਾ ਦੇ ਪਦਾਰਥ) ਦੀ ਹਿਰਸ ਖੰਡ ਦੀ ਗਲੇਫੀ ਹੋਈ ਵਿਖ ਦੇ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਨਾਸ਼ਕਾਰੀ ਹੈ।
Similarly to set one's eye upon the earning of the religious place is like eating of sugar coated poison.
ਪਉੜੀ੧੩
ਖਰਾਦੁਹੇਲਾਜਗਵਿਚਿਜਿਸਅੰਦਰਿਝਾਕੁ।
ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਰਿਣੇ ਵਿਖੇ (ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਥੀ ਹੋ ਦਸਾਂ ਨੌਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਕਮਾਈ ਛੱਡਕੇ ਧਰਮਸਾਲ ਦੀ) ਝਾਕ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਜਗ ਵਿਖੇ ਖਰਾ ਦੁਖੀ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
He is ever sorrowful who has craving in his mind.
ਸੋਇਨੇਨੋਹਥੁਪਾਇਦਾਹੁਇਵੰਞੈਖਾਕੁ।
ਸੋਨੇ ਨੂੰ ਹੱਥ ਪਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ 'ਤਾਂ ਖਾਕ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਇਠਮਿਤਪੁਤਭਾਇਰਾਵਿਹਰਨਿਸਭਸਾਕੁ।
ਪਿਆਰੇ ਮਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਪੁੱਤ੍ਰ ਭਾਈ ਆਦਿ ਸਾਰੇ ਸਾਕ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਨਾਲ ਦੇਖਦੇ ਹਨ।
Dear friends, sons, brothers, and all other relatives become unhappy with him.
ਸੋਗੁਵਿਜੋਗੁਸਰਾਪੁਹੈਦੁਰਮਤਿਨਾਪਾਕੁ।
ਸੋਗ, ਵਿਜੋਗ ਦਾ ਸਰਾਪ ਲੱਗਾ ਰਹੂ ਖੋਟੀ ਮਦ ਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਅਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਰਹੁ (ਆਲਸ ਅਤੇ ਲਾਲਚ ਦੇ ਕੁਧਾਨ ਦਾ ਭਾਰ ਘੁੱਟੀ ਰਖੇਗਾ)।
Such evil-minded person ever suffers the curse of meeting and separation i.e. he undergoes the sufferings of transmigration.
ਵਤੈਮੁਤੜਿਰੰਨਜਿਉਦਰਿਮਿਲੈਤਲਾਕੁ।
ਛੁੱਟੜ ਰੰਨ ਵਾਂਙ ਪਿਆ ਫਿਰੂ (ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ਰ ਦੇ) ਦਰਵਾਜੇ ਤੋਂ ਤਲਾਕ ਮਿਲੂ (ਯਾ ਜਿਸ ਦਰਵਾਜੇ ਜਾ ਖਲੋਊ, ਆਦਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ)।

ਦੁਖੁਭੁਖੁਦਾਲਿਦਘਣਾਦੋਜਕਅਉਤਾਕੁ।੧੩।
ਦੂੱਖ ਭੁੱਖ ਦਲਿੱਦ੍ਰ ਘਣਾ ਇਥੇ ਰਹੁ ਅਗੇ ਨਰਕ ਵਿਖੇ ਘਰ ਮਿਲੂ।

ਵਿਗੜੈਚਾਟਾਦੁਧਦਾਕਾਂਜੀਦੀਚੁਖੈ।
ਦੁੱਧ ਦਾ ਮਟਕਾ, ਕਾਂਜੀ ਦੀ ਚੁੱਖ (ਇਕ ਕਣੀ) ਨਾਲ ਫਿਟ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
The full pot of milk gets spoiled by a drop of vinegar.
ਸਹਸਮਣਾਰੂਈਜਲੈਚਿਣਗਾਰੀਧੁਖੈ।
ਹਜ਼ਾਰਾਂ ਮਣਾਂ ਰੂੰ ਇਕ ਚਿੰਗਾਰੀ ਦੇ ਧੁਖਣ ਨਾਲ ਸੜ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
The thousand mounds of cotton are burnt by one spark.
ਬੂਰੁਵਿਣਾਹੇਪਾਣੀਐਖਉਲਾਖਹੁਰੁਖੈ।
ਪਾਣੀ ਦੇ ਤਲਾਉ ਨੂੰ ਬੂਰ ਵਿਗਾੜ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਰ ਬ੍ਰਿਛ ਨੂੰ ਲਾਖ ਪੈਣ ਨਾਲ (ਉਸ ਦਾ) ਨਾਸ਼ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
The water gossamer spoils water and the shellac becomes the reason for the destruction of the tree.
ਜਿਉਉਦਮਾਦੀਅਤੀਸਾਰੁਖਈਰੋਗੁਮਨੁਖੈ।
ਸੌਦਾਈ ਨੂੰ ਅਤੀਸਾਰ ਅਰ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਖਈ ਰੋਗ ਨਾਸ਼ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
The mad man is mined by diarrhoea and the common man is destroyed by tuberculosis (consumption).
ਜਿਉਜਾਲਿਪੰਖੇਰੂਫਾਸਦੇਚੁਗਣਦੀਭੁਖੈ।
ਜਿਕੂੰ ਪੰਛੀ ਜਾਲੀ ਵਿਖੇ ਦਾਣੇ ਚੁਗਣ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਨਾਲ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
As the birds get entangled in the net out of their greed for seeds,
ਤਿਉਅਜਰੁਝਾਕਭੰਡਾਰਦੀਵਿਆਪੇਵੇਮੁਖੈ।੧੪।
ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਾ ਜਰੀ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਭੰਡਾਰ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਜਿਸ ਵੇਮੁਖ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਆਪਦੀ ਹੈ, (ਨਾਸ਼ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ)।
The desire for the storage of unendurable (earning from the religious place) persists in the heart of the apostate.
ਪਉੜੀ੧੫
ਅਉਚਰੁਝਾਕਭੰਡਾਰਦੀਚੁਖੁਲਗੈਚਖੀ।
ਭੰਡਾਰਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਝਾਕ ਖਾਣ ਲਾਇਕ ਨਹੀਂ, (ਪਰੰਤੂ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਦੇ) ਚੱਖਣ ਦੀ ਚੁੱਖ (ਚਾਹ) ਲੱਗਦੀ ਹੈ।
To crave for the material of store (for the Sikhs) is improper.
ਹੋਇਦੁਕੁਧਾਨਿਕਲੈਭੋਜਨੁਮਿਲਿਮਖੀ।
(ਉਸ ਥੋਂ 'ਦੁਕੁਧਾ') ਉਲਟਾ ਹੋਕੇ ਨਿਕਲਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿੱਕੁਰ ਮੱਖੀ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਭੋਜਨ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ (ਉਲਟ ਕੇ ਨਿਕਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹੇਠਲੀਆਂ ਦੋ ਤੁਕਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟਾਂਤ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ)।
But those who have such a desire, have to return the material, as the fly gone inside with food is vomited out by the body.
ਰਾਤਿਸੁਖਾਲਾਕਿਉਸਵੈਤਿਣੁਅੰਦਰਿਅਖੀ।
ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਅੱਖ ਵਿਖੇ ਤੀਲਾ ਪੈ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ (ਦੱਸੋ।) ਰਾਤ ਨੂੰ ਕਿੱਕਰ ਸੌਖਾ ਸੋਂ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ?
How could he sleep peacefully who has the grass blade in his eye.
ਕਖਾਦਬੀਅਗਿਜਿਉਓਹੁਰਹੈਨਰਖੀ।
(ਦੱਭ ਦੇ) ਕੱਖਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਅੱਗ ਜਿੱਕੁਰ ਦਬਾ ਕੇ ਰਖੀਏ ਤਾਂ ਰਖੀ ਰਹਿ ਨਹੀ. ਸਕਦੀ।
As the fire cannot be kept pressed under the dry grass, similarly,
ਝਾਕਝਕਾਈਐਝਾਕਵਾਲੁਕਰਿਭਖਅਭਖੀ।
ਝਾਕ ਵਾਲਾ ਝਾਕ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਤਾੜਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਜੇਕਰ) ਅਭੱਖ (ਬੀ ਹੋਵੇ ਉਹ) ਭੱਖ (ਹੀ) ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਐਸਾ ਲੋਭ ਵਿਚ ਗਿਆ ਗੁਜ਼ਰਿਆ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ)। (ਇਸ ਖੋਟੇ ਧਾਨ ਥੋਂ ਬਚਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਕੋਈ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਨਹੀਂ? ਇਸ ਸ਼ੰਕਾ ਵਿਖੇ ਉਤਰ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ)
The cravings of the caving person cannot be controlled and for him the inedible becomes edible.
ਗੁਰਪਰਸਾਦੀਉਬਰੇਗੁਰਸਿਖਾਲਖੀ।੧੫।
ਲੱਖਾਂ ਸਿੱਖ ਹਨ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਪੁਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਹੈ ਓਹ ਬਚੇ ਹਨ।
The Sikhs of the Guru are millions but only those who attain the grace of the Lord get across the world ocean).
ਪਉੜੀ੧੬
ਜਿਉਘੁਣਖਾਧੀਲਕੜੀਵਿਣੁਤਾਣਿਨਿਤਾਣੀ।
ਜਿੰਕੂੰ ਘੁਣ (ਨਾਮੇ ਕੀੜੇ) ਦੀ ਖਾਧੀ ਹੋਈ ਲੱਕੜੀ ਤਾਣੋਂ ਨਿਤਾਣੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
He (the apostate) becomes feeble and powerless as the weevil-eaten wood.
ਜਾਣੁਡਰਾਵਾਖੇਤਵਿਚਿਨਿਰਜੀਤੁਪਰਾਣੀ।
ਜਿਕੂੰ ਪੈਲੀ ਵਿਚ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਨਕਲੀ ਅਕਾਰ ਬਣਾਕੇ) ਡਰਾਉਣਾ (ਜ਼ਿਮੀਦਾਰ ਲੋਕ ਰਖਦੇ ਹਨ) ਉਹ ਮੁਰਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਅਰਥਾਤ ਕੁਝ ਕਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ।
He is similar to the life-less scarecrow put up in the field to frighten (the birds).
ਜਿਉਧੂਅਰੁਝੜੁਵਾਲਦੀਕਿਉਵਰਸੈਪਾਣੀ।
ਜਿੱਕੁਰ ਧੂਏਂ ਥੋਂ (“ਝੜਵਾਲ ਦੀ”) ਬੱਦਲ ਵਾਲੀ ਬਰਖਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਰਸਦੀ ਹੈ, (ਪਾਠਾਤ੍ਰ 'ਧੁੰਅਰ' ਹੈ ਗਯਾਨੀ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਝੜ ਵਾਲੀ ਕੁਹੀੜ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਮੀਂਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਸਦਾ)।
How out of clouds of smoke rain could take place.
ਜਿਉਥਣਗਲਵਿਚਿਬਕਰੀਦੁਹਿਦੁਧੁਨਆਣੀ।
ਜਿੱਕੁਰ ਬਕਰੀ ਦੇ ਗਲ ਦੇ ਧਣ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਚੋਣ ਨਾਲ ਦੁੱਧ ਨਹੀਂ ਨਿਕਲਦਾ।
As the teat of a goat in the neck cannot give milk, likewise the grabber of religious earning of a religious place roams hither and thither in the craving of the same.
ਝਾਕੇਅੰਦਰਿਝਾਕਵਾਲੁਤਿਸਕਿਆਨੀਸਾਣੀ।
(ਤਿਹਾ ਹੀ) ਧਰਮਸਾਲ ਦੀ ਝਾਕ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਝਾਕ ਵਿਚ ਨਿਸ਼ਫਲ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨੀ ਕੀ ਹੈ?
What is the exact mark of such a man.
ਜਿਉਚਮੁਚਟੈਗਾਇਮਹਿਉਹਭਰਮਿਭੁਲਾਣੀ।੧੬।
ਜਿਕੁਰ ਗਊ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂਹ (ਤੂੜੀ ਦੇ ਭਰੇ ਹੋਏ ਨਕਲੀ ਵੱਛੇ ਅਤੇ ਕੱਟੇ ਦੇ) ਚੰਮ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਜਾਣਕੇ ਚੱਟਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਕੇਵਲ ਭਰਮ ਵਿਖੇ ਹੀ ਭੁੱਲੀਆਂ ਹੋਈਆਂ ਹਨ।
Such a man remains deluded like that cow who considering its dead offspiring alive goes on licking it

ਗੁਛਾਹੋਇਧ੍ਰਿਕਾਨੂਆਕਿਉਵੁੜੀਐਦਾਖੈ।
ਧਿਰਕੌਨਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਗੁੱਛਾ ਦਾਖ ਦਾ ਗੁੱਛਾ ਕਿਉਂਕਰ ਕਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ? (ਨਹੀਂ)।
Why should the bunch of the bead tree be compared with grapes.
ਅਕੈਕੇਰੀਖਖੜੀਕੋਈਅੰਬੁਨਆਖੈ।
ਅੱਕ ਦੀ ਖੋਖੜੀ ਨੂੰ (ਜੋ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਅੰਬ ਦੇ ਰੰਗ ਰੂਪ ਵਾਂਗੂੰ ਹੈ) ਅੰਬ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
No one calls the akk berries, mango.
ਗਹਣੇਜਿਉਜਰਪੋਸਦੇਨਹੀਸੋਇਨਾਸਾਖੈ।
ਮੁਲੰਮੇ ਦੇ ਗਹਿਣਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਾਖ ਭਰਦਾ ਕਿ ਸੋਨੇ ਦੇ ਹਨ।
Gift ornaments are not like golden ornaments.
ਫਟਕਨਪੁਜਨਿਹੀਰਿਆਓਇਭਰੇਬਿਆਖੈ।
('ਫਟਕ') ਬਿਲੌਰ ਹੀਰਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੁੱਜਦਾ ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਓਹ ਹੀਰੇ ਬੇਓੜਕ ਮੁੱਲ ਦੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ। (ਅਥਵਾ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਆਖੇ ਪਛਾਣੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ)।
Crystals are not equal to diamonds because the diamonds are costlier.
ਧਉਲੇਦਿਸਨਿਛਾਹਿਦੁਧੁਸਾਦਹੁਗੁਣਗਾਖੈ।
ਲੱਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਦੁੱਧ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਧਉਲੇ ਰੰਗ ਦੇ ਚਿੱਟੇ ਹਨ, ਸੁਆਦ ਥੋਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਨਿਰਨੇ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
Butter milk and milk are both white but of different quality and taste
ਤਿਉਸਾਧਅਸਾਧਪਰਖੀਅਨਿਕਰਤੂਤਿਸੁਭਾਖੈ।੧੭।
(ਤਿਵੇਂ) ਸਾਧ ਅਸਾਧ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਕਰਤੂਤ ਅਰ ਬੋਲੀ ਥੋਂ ਪਰਖੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਵਤ ਸੰਤ ਆਪਣੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਥੋਂ ਅਮਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਅਰ ਅਸੰਤ ਵਿਖਯ ਵਾਂਗੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਹਿਰ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ)।

ਸਾਵੇਪੀਲੇਪਾਨਹਹਿਓਇਵੇਲਹੁਤੁਟੇ।
ਪਾਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੱਤ੍ਰ ਸਾਵੇ ਪੀਲੇ ਹੋਕੇ ਵੱਲਾਂ ਥੋਂ ਟੁੱਟਦੇ ਹਨ।
The betel leaves when plucked from the branch are of green and yellow colour.
ਚਿਤਮਿਤਾਲੇਫੋਫਲੇਫਲਬਿਰਖਹੁੰਛੁਟੇ।
ਸੁਪਾਰੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਚਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਮਿੱਤ੍ਰੋ ਫੱਲ ਬ੍ਰਿੱਛ ਤੋਂ ਡਿੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ।
The betel nut getting pie bald colour is plucked from the tree.
ਕਥਹੁਰੇਹੀਭੂਸਲੀਦੇਚਾਵਲਚੁਟੇ।
ਕੱਥ ('ਹੁਰੇਹੀ ਭੁਸਲੇ') ਹਲਕੇ ਜਿਹੇ ਭੂਸਲੇ ਰੰਗਦੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਚਾਵਲ ਜਿੰਨੀ ('ਚੁੱਟੇ) ਕੁੱਟਕੇ (ਯਾਚੁਟਕੀ ਭਰੀ) ਪਾਈ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।

ਚੂਨਾਦਿਸੈਉਜਲਾਦਹਿਪਥਰੁਕੁਟੇ।
ਚੂਨਾ ਚਿੱਟਾ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਸਾੜਕੇ ਪੱਥਰ ਪੁਰ ਕੁੱਟੀਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਕਿ ਬ੍ਰੀਕ ਹੋ ਜਾਵੇ) (ਅਥਵਾ ਸਾੜਕੇ ਪੱਥਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਕੁਟਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ)।
The lime is white and is burnt and thrashed.
ਆਪੁਗਵਾਇਸਮਾਇਮਿਲਿਰੰਗੁਚੀਚਵਹੁਟੇ।
ਆਪੋ ਆਪਣਾ ਰੰਗ ਗਵਾਕੇ ਜਦ ਚਾਰੇ ਆਪ ਵਿਚ ਸਮਾਉਂਦੇ (ਅਭੇਦ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ) ਹਨ, ਚੀਚ ਵਹੁਟੀ ਦਾ ਰੰਗ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਗੂੜ੍ਹੇ ਲਾਲ ਗੁਲਾਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ)।
When losing their ego (they meet) they uniformally become of red colour.
ਤਿਉਚਹੁਵਰਨਾਵਿਚਿਸਾਧਹਨਿਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਮੁਹਜੁਟੇ।੧੮।
(ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟਾਂਤ ਇਹ ਕਿ) ਤਿਵੇਂ ਚਾਰ ਵਰਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਚੋਂ (ਜਦ) ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਹੋਕੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਜੋੜਦੇ ਹਨ ਸਾਧ (ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ) ਹਨ। (“ਲਾਲ ਗੁਲਾਲੁ ਗਹਬਰਾ ਸਚਾ ਰੰਗੁ ਚੜਾਉ”)॥
Likewise are the saints, who adopting the qualifies of the four varnas, live in mutual love like gmmukhs, the Guru oriented.
ਪਉੜੀ੧੯
ਚਾਕਰਸਭਸਦਾਇਂਦੇਸਾਹਿਬਦਰਬਾਰੇ।
ਨੌਕਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਸਾਹਬ ਦੇ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਦੇ ਸਦਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
In the court of the emperor all are known as servants.
ਨਿਵਿਨਿਵਿਕਰਨਿਜੁਹਾਰੀਆਸਭਸੈਹਥੀਆਰੇ।
ਨਿੰਮ੍ਰਭੂਤ ਹੋਕੇ ਨਮਸਕਾਰਾਂ ਜਾਂ ਬੰਦਗੀਆਂ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਰ ਸਾਰੇ (ਤਲਵਾਰ ਆਦਿ) ਹਥੀਆਰ ਫੜੀ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
Armed well, they bow most humbly.
ਮਜਲਸਬਹਿਬਾਫਾਇਂਦੇਬੋਲਬੋਲਨਿਭਾਰੇ।
ਕਚਹਿਰੀਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਬੈਠਕੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪ ਜਣਾਉਂਦੇ, ਅਰ ਵਡੇ ਬੋਲ ਬੋਲਦੇ ਹਨ (ਕਿ ਅਸੀਂ ਵਡੇ ਸੂਰਬੀਰ ਹਾਂ)।
In the social and cultural gatherings they boast and brag.
ਗਲੀਏਤੁਰੇਨਚਾਇਂਦੇਗਜਗਾਹਸਵਾਰੇ।
ਗਲੀਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਘੋੜੇ ਨਚਾਉਂਦੇ, ਗਜਗਾਹਾਂ ਸੁਫਾਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
They have their elephants decorated and in the streets and bazars they roam with their horses dancing.
ਰਣਵਿਚਿਪਇਆਂਜਾਣੀਅਨਿਜੋਧਭਜਣਹਾਰੇ।
(ਪਰੰਤੂ) ਜੁੱਧ ਵਿਚ ਜਾਣੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਸੂਰਮੇਂ ਅਰ ਕਾਇਰ ਕੌਣ ਹਨ (ਅਗੇ ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟਾਂਤ ਛੀਵੀਂ ਤੁਕ ਵਿਖੇ ਦੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ)।
But only in the battle field is known who is a valiant fighter and who is to take to his heels.
ਤਿਉਸਾਂਗਿਸਿਞਾਪਨਿਸਨਮੁਖਾਂਬੇਮੁਖਹਤਿਆਰੇ।੧੯।
ਅਜਿਹਾ ਹੀ ਬੇਮੁਖ ਹਤਿਆਰੇ ਜੋ ਸਨਮੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਾਂਗ ਬਣਾ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਸਿਾਣੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
Similar are the apostates, the assassins who disguised as close to the Lord remain around, but ultimately are identified.

ਜਦ ਭੁਚਾਲ ਆਂਵਦਾ ਹੈ ਧਰਤੀ ਉਪਰ ਕਿਲੇ ਤੇ ਕੋਟ (ਸਾਰੇ ਕਮੰਦੇ=) ਕੰਬਦੇ ਹਨ।
During the earth quake millions of forts on earth shake and crumble
ਝਖੜਿਆਏਤਰੁਵਰਾਸਰਬਤਹਲੰਦੇ।
ਹਨੇਰੀ ਦੇ ਵਗਣ ਨਾਲ ਬ੍ਰਿਛ ਸਾਰੇ ਹਿੱਲਣ ਲਗ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

ਜੇਕਰ ਮਾਂ ਹੀ ਪੁੱਤ੍ਰ ਨੂੰ ਜ਼ਹਿਰ ਦੇਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ (ਹੋਰ) ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ (ਪੁਤ) ਪਿਆਰਾ ਹੈ? (ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ)।
If a mother administers poison to son then to whom else that son could be more dear.
ਜੇਘਰੁਭੰਨੈਪਾਹਰੂਕਉਣੁਰਖਣਹਾਰਾ।
ਜੇ ਰਾਖਾ ਹੀ ਘਰ ਭੰਨਣ ਲਗ ਜਾਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਕੌਣ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ?

('ਪਾਤਣੀ') ਮਲਾਹ ਹੀ ਬੇੜੀ ਡੋਬਣ ਤੇ ਆਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਪਾਰ ਉਤਾਰਾ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ?
If the boatman makes the boat sink, how one could get across.
ਆਗੂਲੈਉਝੜਿਪਵੈਕਿਸੁਕਰੈਪੁਕਾਰਾ।
('ਆਗੂ') ਰਾਹ ਦੱਸਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੀ ਉਜਾੜ ਵਿਖੇ ਲੈ ਜਾਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਕਿਸ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਹਾਲ ਪਾਹਰਿਆ ਕਰੇਗਾ?
If the leader himself makes the people go astray, who else could be called for help.
ਜੇਕਰਿਖੇਤੈਖਾਇਵਾੜਿਕੋਲਹੈਨਸਾਰਾ।
ਜੇਕਰ ਵਾੜ ਹੀ ਖੇਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਖਾਣ ਲਗ ਜਾਵੇ, ਤਾਂ ਕੋਈ ਖਬਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੈ ਸਕਦਾ।
And if the protecting fence starts eating the crops who else will take care of the fields.

ਜੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਹੀ (ਸਿਖ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ) ਸਾਂਗ (ਭੇਖ) ਬਦਲਾਕੇ ਭਰਮਾਇਆ ਚਾਹੇ ਤਦ ਸਿਖ ਵਿਚਾਰਾ ਕੀ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
Similarly, if the Guru deludes a Sikh through a sham, what a poor Sikh could do.

ਜਲਵਿਚਿਕਾਗਦਲੂਣਜਿਉਘਿਅਚੋਪੜਿਪਾਏ।
ਕਾਗਜ਼ ਤੇ ਲੂਣ ਘਿਉ ਵਿਚ ਥਿੰਥੇ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਪਾਇਆਂ ਜਿਕੂੰ (ਘੱਟ ਗਲਦੇ ਹਨ)। (ਗਯਾਨੀ ਇਉਂ ਬੀ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਲੂਣ ਘਿਉ ਦੇ 'ਚੋਪੜ' ਮਟਕੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਾਓ ਤਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਗਲਦਾ)।
