(ਅਪਤੀਣਾ=ਬੇਪ੍ਰਤੀਤਾ। ਲਵੈ=ਬੋਲੇ। ਓਡੀਣਾ=ਉਦਾਸੀਨ) ਮੀਣਾ=ਦੱਖਣੀ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਜ਼ਿਲਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਇਕ ਜੁਰਮ ਪੇਸ਼ਾ ਕੌਮ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਮੀਣਾ ਹੈ, ਏਹ ਲੋਕ ਅਜਬ ਹੀਲਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਮੁਸਾਫਰਾਂ, ਸੰਗਾਂ ਤੇ ਕਾਫਲਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਲੁੱਟਦੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਸੇ। ਇਥੇ ਬੁਰੇ ਆਦਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਮੀਣਾ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਆਮ ਅਰਥ ਮੀਸਣਾ ਹੈ। ਕਪਟੀ, ਛਲੀਆ ਜੋ ਉਤੋਂ ਹੋ
ਤੀਰਥਮੰਝਿਨਿਵਾਸੁਹੈਬਗੁਲਾਅਪਤੀਣਾ।
ਬਗਲਾ ਤੀਰਥ ਪੁਰ ਹੀ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਪਰੰਤੂ ਤੀਰਥ ਪਰ) ਪ੍ਰਤੀਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਖਦਾ, (ਕਿ ਇਹ ਭਜਨ ਦਾ ਥਾਉਂ ਹੈ, ਇਥੇ ਪਾਪ ਕਰਨਾ ਜੋਗ ਨਹੀਂ)।
Crane though living at a pilgrimage centre remains without faith.
ਲਵੈਬਬੀਹਾਵਰਸਦੈਜਲਜਾਇਨਪੀਣਾ।
ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕ ਜਲ ਦੇ ਵਰਸਦਿਆਂ ਲਉਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਜਲ ਪਾਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ।
The rain-bird goes on crying during rain but dries not know how to drink water.
ਵਾਂਸੁਸੁਗੰਧਿਨਹੋਵਈਪਰਮਲਸੰਗਿਲੀਣਾ।
ਬਾਂਸ ਵਿਖੇ ਸੁਗੰਧੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਚੰਦਨ ਦੇ ਪਾਸ ਹੀ ('ਲੀਣਾ') ਮਗਨ ਰਹੇ।
Bamboo may be engrossed in sandalwood but cannot take its fragrance.
ਘੁਘੂਸੁਝੁਨਸੁਝਈਕਰਮਾਦਾਹੀਣਾ।
ਉੱਲੂ ਨੂੰ (ਚਾਨਣਾ) ਸੂਰਜ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ, ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਹੀਣਾ ਹੈ।
So unfortunate is owl that it never beholds sun.
ਨਾਭਿਕਥੂਰੀਮਿਰਗਦੇਵਤੈਓਡੀਣਾ।
ਹਰਣ ਦੀ ਧੁੰਨੀ ਵਿਖੇ ਕਸਤੂਰੀ ਹੈ। (ਪਰੰਤੂ ਉਹ) ਉਦਾਸ ਹੋਇਆ (ਝਾੜੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਸੁੰਘਦਾ) ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Though musk remains in the el of deer, yet it goes on running around in search of it.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਸਚਾਪਾਤਿਸਾਹੁਮੁਹੁਕਾਲੈਮੀਣਾ।੧।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਸਚਾ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਮੀਣਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਮੂੰਹ ਕਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
The true Guru is true emperor and the faces of the dissemblers are blackened.

ਨੀਲਾਰੀਦੇਮਟਵਿਚਿਪੈਗਿਦੜੁਰਤਾ।
ਇਕ ਗਿੱਦੜ ਲਿਲਾਰੀ ਦੇ ਮਟਕੇ ਵਿਚ ਪੈਕੇ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਗਿਆ।
Once a jackal fell into a dyer's vat and got dyed.
ਜੰਗਲਅੰਦਰਿਜਾਇਕੈਪਾਖੰਡੁਕਮਤਾ।
ਬਨ ਵਿਖੇ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਪਾਖੰਡ ਕੀਤਾ (ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਇਸ ਬਨ ਦਾ ਰਾਜਾ ਹਾਂ)।
Taking advantage of its changed colour, it went into the jungle and started dissembling (the animals there).
ਦਰਿਸੇਵੈਮਿਰਗਾਵਲੀਹੋਇਬਹੈਅਵਤਾ।
ਮਿਰਗਾਂ ਦੀ ਕਤਾਰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਬੂਹੇ ਪੁਰ ਖੜੋਕੇ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਨ ਲਗੀ, ਉਹ ਆਕੜ ਦੇ ਬੈਠਣ ਲੱਗਾ। (ਭਾਵ ਹੰਕਾਰੀ ਹੋਕੇ ਘੂਰਨ ਲੱਗਾ)।
Sitting arrogantly in its lair, it would frighten the deer into serving it.
ਕਰੈਹਕੂਮਤਿਅਗਲੀਕੂੜੈਮਦਿਮਤਾ।
ਜੀਵਾਂ ਪੁਰ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੁਕਮ ਕਰਨ ਲੱਗਾ, ਝੂਠੀ ਸ਼ਰਾਬ ਦੀ ਮਸਤੀ ਵਿਖੇ ਮਸਤ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ, (ਇਕੇਰਾਂ ਜਦ ਗਿੱਦੜ ਰਾਤ ਨੂੰ ਹੁਆਂ ਹੁਆਂ ਦੀ ਬੋਲੀ ਬੋਲਣ ਲਗੇ ਉਹ ਬੀ ਬੋਲ ਬੈਠਾ, ਇਸ ਗਲ ਤੋਂ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ਗਿਆ)
Intoxicated by false pride it started ruling (over the animals) with great pomp.
ਬੋਲਣਿਪਾਜਉਘਾੜਿਆਜਿਉਮੂਲੀਪਤਾ।
(ਇਸ) ਬੋਲ ਪੈਣ ਨੇ ਪਾਜ ਖੋਲ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਮੂਲੀ ਦਾ ਡਕਾਰ (ਪਾਜ ਖੋਹਲ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ) (ਹੁਣ ਸਾਰੀ ਮਿਰਗਾਵਲੀ ਨੇ ਮਾਰਕੇ ਕੱਢ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਤਾਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਕੂੜਾ ਤੇ ਕੁਪੱਤਾ ਹੈ॥
As eructation indicates the eating of radish leaf, it also got exposed when it (having listened to the howls of other jackals) also started howling.
ਤਿਉਦਰਗਹਿਮੀਣਾਮਾਰੀਐਕਰਿਕੂੜੁਕੁਪਤਾ।੨।
ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਖੇ ਮੀਣਾ ਝੂਠਾ ਤੇ ਕੁਪੱਤਾ ਹੋਣ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮਾਰੀਦਾ ਹੈ।
Thus, the dissembler out of his own hypocrisis is beaten hollow in the court of the Lord.
ਪਉੜੀ੩
ਚੋਰੁਕਰੈਨਿਤਚੋਰੀਆਂਓੜਕਿਦੁਖਭਾਰੀ।
ਚੋਰ (ਪਰਾਈਆਂ) ਚੋਰੀਆਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਪਰੰਤੂ) ਅੰਤ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਰੀ ਦੁਖ ਭੋਗਦਾ ਹੈ।
A thief commits thefts daily but ultimnately has to suffer heavily.
ਨਕੁਕੰਨੁਫੜਿਵਢੀਐਰਾਵੈਪਰਨਾਰੀ।
ਜੋ ਪਰਾਈ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਭੋਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨੱਕ ਕੰਨ ਫੜ ਕੇ ਵੱਢੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
The ears and nose are chopped of the man who ravishes an other's wife.
ਅਉਘਟਰੁਧੇਮਿਰਗਜਿਉਵਿਤੁਹਾਰਿਜੂਆਰੀ।
ਔਖੇ ਰਸਤੇ (ਭਾਵ ਜਾਲ ਵਿਖੇ) ਫਸੇ ਹੋਏ ਮਿਰਗ ਵਾਂਗੂੰ ਜੁਆਰੀਆ (ਆਪਣਾ) ਧਨ ਹਾਰ ਬੈਠਦਾ ਹੈ।
The position of the losing gambler is similar to the deer caught in a trap.
ਲੰਙੀਕੁਹਲਿਨਆਵਈਪਰਵੇਲਿਪਿਆਰੀ।
ਲੰਙੀ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਹਣੀ ਚਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਦੀ, ਫੇਰ ਬੀ ਪਰਾਈ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਪ੍ਯਾਰੀ ਹੀ ਲੱਗਦੀ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ ਖੋਟੇ ਪੁਰਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਾਈ ਸ਼ੈ ਭਾਉਂ ਦੀ ਹੈ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਉਹ ਬੁਰੀ ਹੀ ਹੋਵੇ, ਚੋਰੀ ਦਾ ਗੁੜ ਮਿੱਠਾ)।
A lame woman may not move properly, but being other's wife she looks lovable.
ਵਗਨਹੋਵਨਿਕੁਤੀਆਮੀਣੇਮੁਰਦਾਰੀ।
ਕੁੱਤੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਕਦੇ ਵੱਗ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੇ (ਵਗ ਗਊਆਂ ਦੇ ਹੀ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ)। ਮੀਣੇ ਮੁਰਦੇ ਖਾਣੇ ਹਨ। (ਭਾਵ ਇਹ ਕਿ ਕਪਟੀ ਆਗੂ ਹੋਕੇ ਜੋ ਸੰਗ ਮਗਰ ਲਾਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਸੰਗ ਨਿਭ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ, ਸੱਚੇ ਦੇ ਮਗਰ ਹੀ ਸੰਗ ਨਿਭ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ। ਮੁਰਦਾਰੀ ਏਸ ਆਸ਼ੇ ਤੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਹੈ “ਕੂੜੁ ਬੋਲਿ ਮੁਰਦਾਰੁ ਖਾਇ”॥)
Bitches not being there in droves the dissemblers eat the carrion.
ਪਾਪਹੁਮੂਲਿਨਤਗੀਐਹੋਇਅੰਤਿਖੁਆਰੀ।੩।
ਪਾਪ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਕਦੇ ਉੱਧਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ, ਅੰਤ ਨੂੰ ਖੇਹ ਖਰਾਬੀ ਹੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
Through evil actions liberation can never be attained and ultimately one becomes wretched.
ਪਉੜੀ੪
ਚਾਨਣਿਚੰਦਨਪੁਜਈਚਮਕੈਟਾਨਾਣਾ।
ਟਾਨਾਣਾ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਕਿੰਨਾ (ਰਾਤ ਨੂੰ) ਚਮਕੇ (ਪਰੰਤੂ) ਚੰਦ੍ਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਾਨਣ ਨੂੰ ਪੁੱਜ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ।
The glow-worm may glow as much as it likes but its shine cannot reach the brightness of moon.
ਸਾਇਰਬੂੰਦਬਰਾਬਰੀਕਿਉਆਖਿਵਖਾਣਾ।
ਬੂੰਦ ਕਦੇ ਸਮੁੰਦ੍ਰ ਦੀ ਬਰਾਬਰੀ (ਕਰ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ? ਇਹ ਗਲ) ਕਿਕੂੰ ਕਹੀ ਜਾਵੇ।
How it could be said that the ocean and a drop of water are equal.
ਕੀੜੀਇਭਨਅਪੜੈਕੂੜਾਤਿਸੁਮਾਣਾ।
ਕੀੜੀ ਹਾਥੀ ਦੀ ਰੀਸ ਕਰੇ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਗੁਮਾਨ ਝੂਠਾ ਹੈ।
An ant can never equal an elephant; its pride is false.
ਨਾਨੇਹਾਲੁਵਖਾਣਦਾਮਾਪਾਸਿਇਆਣਾ।
ਇਆਣਾ ਹੋਕੇ ਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਾਸ ਆਕੇ ਨਾਨਕਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਹਾਲ ਸੁਣਾਵੇ (ਕਿ ਮਾਪਿਆਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਚੰਗੇ ਹਨ, ਕੀ ਉਹ ਮਾਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਵਧੀਕ ਜਾਣ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ? ਕਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ। ਅੱਗੇ ਪੰਜਵੀਂ ਤੇ ਛੀਵੀਂ ਤੁਕ ਵਿਖੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ)।
A child's describing his maternal grand father's house to his mother is futile.
ਜਿਨਿਤੂੰਸਾਜਿਨਿਵਾਜਿਆਦੇਪਿੰਡੁਪਰਾਣਾ।
0 dissembler ! if you have totallly forgotten that Lord who has bestowed body
ਮੁਢਹੁਘੁਥਹੁਮੀਣਿਆਤੁਧੁਜਮਪੁਰਿਜਾਣਾ।੪।
ਹੇ ਮੀਣਿਆ। ਜਿਸਨੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਸਾਜਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਵਡਿਆਇਆ ਹੈ ਪਿੰਡ ਅਰ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ, (ਜੇਕਰ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਨਾ ਜਾਣੇਗਾ ਅਰ ਸੱਚ ਤੇ ਭਲਿਆਈ ਦੇ ਰਸਤਿਓਂ ਭੁੱਲਾ ਫਿਰੇਂਗਾ ਤਦ) ਹੇ ਮੁੱਢ ਤੋਂ ਘੁੱਥੇ ਹੋਏ। ਤੂੰ ਜਮਪੁਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਏਂਗਾ।
And soul upon you, you will go straight to the abode of Yama

ਕੈਹਾਦਿਸੈਉਜਲਾਮਸੁਅੰਦਰਿਚਿਤੈ।
ਕੈਹਾਂ (ਨਾਮ ਵਾਲਾ ਧਾਤੂ) ਚਿੱਟਾ ਦਿਸਦਾ ਹੈ (ਪਰੰਤੂ) ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਕਾਲਖ ਚਿੱਤ੍ਰਤ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ ਅਭੇਦ ਹੋਈ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਲਈ ਦੁਭਾਂਤੀਆ ਹੈ)।
The bronze appears bright but inside it remains blackness .
ਹਰਿਆਤਿਲੁਬੂਆੜਜਿਉਫਲੁਕੰਮਨਕਿਤੈ।
ਜਿਕੂੰ ਹਰਿਆ ਬੂਆੜ ਦਾ ਬੂਟਾ ਤਿਲਾਂ (ਖੱਤੇ ਵਿਖੇ ਉੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ) ਪਰੰਤੂ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਫਲ ਕਿਸੇ ਕੰਮ ਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ।
Baal: weed plant in a field of sesame may be lush green but it. fruit is worthless.
ਜੇਹੀਕਲੀਕਨੇਰਦੀਮਨਿਤਨਿਦੁਹੁਭਿਤੈ।
ਕਨੇਰ ਦੀ ਕਲੀ ਮਨੋਂ ਤਨੋਂ ਹੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ (ਦੇਖਣ ਨੂੰ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਵਿਹੁਲੀ ਹੈ)।
The oleander bud has two aspects; externally it is beautiful but internally it is poisonous.
ਪੇਂਝੂਦਿਸਨਿਰੰਗੁਲੇਮਰੀਐਅਗਲਿਤੈ।
ਪੇਂਝੂ ਦੇ ਫਲ ਦੇਖਣ ਨੂੰ ਲਾਲ ਗੁਲਾਲ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਬਾਹਲੇ ਖਾਣ ਨਾਲ ਮਰ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ।
Pelijha, the ripe fruit of wild caper looks colourful but over eating it man dies instantly.
ਖਰੀਸੁਆਲਿਓਵੇਸੁਆਜੀਅਬਝਾਇਤੈ।
ਵੇਸਵਾ ਖਰੀ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ (ਪਰ) ਚਿਤ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਵਿਖੇ ਬੱਝ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਅੰਤ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਖਰਾਬ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ)।
Prostitute looks very beautiful but she ensnares the mind (and ultimately man stands finished).
ਖੋਟੀਸੰਗਤਿਮੀਣਿਆਦੁਖਦੇਂਦੀਮਿਤੈ।੫।
ਹੇ ਮੀਣੇ, ਖੋਟੀ ਸੰਗਤ (ਅੰਤ ਮਿੱਤ੍ਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਦੁਖ ਦੇਂਦੀ ਹੈ (ਅਥਵਾ ਮੀਣਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਕਰਨੀ ਖੋਟੀ ਹੈ, ਸੱਜਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੁਖਦਾਈ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ)।
Similarly, dissembler's company causes suffering for their friends

ਬਧਿਕੁਨਾਦੁਸੁਣਾਇਕੈਜਿਉਮਿਰਗੁਵਿਣਾਹੈ।
ਸ਼ਿਕਾਰੀ (ਘੰਟਾਹੇੜੀ ਦਾ) ਨਾਦ (ਵਾਜਾ) ਸੁਣਾਕੇ ਜਿੱਕੁਰ ਮਿਰਗ ਨੂੰ ਫੜ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
As a hunter inveigles the deer with music and entraps it;
ਝੀਵਰੁਕੁੰਡੀਮਾਸੁਲਾਇਜਿਉਮਛੀਫਾਹੈ।
ਮਾਛੀ ਕੁੰਡੀ ਵਿਖੇ ਮਾਸ (ਦੀ ਬੋਟੀ) ਲਾਕੇ ਮੱਛੀ ਨੂੰ ਫਸਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
As the fisherman putting meat on hook catches hold of the fish;
ਕਵਲੁਦਿਖਾਲੈਮੁਹੁਖਿੜਾਇਭਵਰੈਵੇਸਾਹੈ।
ਕਵਲ (ਦਾ ਫੁਲ) ਆਪਣੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਖਿੜਾਕੇ ਦਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਭਵਰਾ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਉਤੇ ਵਿਸਾਹਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਇਸ ਲਈ ਸਾਰੀ ਰਾਤ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੈਦ ਕਟੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ)
As the lotus showing its blossommed face beguiles the black-bee;
ਦੀਪਕਜੋਤਿਪਤੰਗਨੋਦੁਰਜਨਜਿਉਦਾਹੈ।
ਦੀਵੇ ਦੀ ਲਾਟ ਵੈਰੀ ਵਾਂਙੂੰ ਭੰਬਟ ਨੂੰ ਸਾੜ ਸਿਟਦੀ ਹੈ।
As the flame of lamp burns moth like an enemy;
ਕਲਾਰੂਪਹੋਇਹਸਤਨੀਮੈਗਲੁਓਮਾਹੈ।
ਕਲਬੂਤੀ ਹਥਨੀ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਹਾਥੀ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਨੂੰ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਦਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਲਈ ਖਾਤੇ ਵਿਚ ਪੈਕੇ ਕੈਦ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ)।
As the paper-model of a female elephant makes the male counterpart erotomaniac;
ਤਿਉਨਕਟਪੰਥੁਹੈਮੀਣਿਆਮਿਲਿਨਰਕਿਨਿਬਾਹੈ।੬।
ਮੀਣਿਆਂ (ਅਰਥਾਤ ਬੇਮੁਖਾਂ) ਦਾ ਨਕਟਾ ਪੰਥ (ਅਰਥਾਤ ਏਪਤਾ ਪੰਥ) ਹੈ, (ਜੋ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ) ਸੰਗਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਨਰਕ ਵਿਖੇ ਗ਼ੋਤੇ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Similarly the way of brazen-faced dissemblers leads towards hell.

ਹਰਿਚੰਦੁਉਰੀਦੇਖਿਕੈਕਰਦੇਭਰਵਾਸਾ।
ਹਰੀ ਚੰਦ ਦੀ ਨਗਰੀ (ਅਰਥਾਤ ਧੁੰਏ ਧਾਰ) ਨੂੰ (ਨਗਰ ਦੇ ਅਕਾਰ ਵਾਂਗੂੰ) ਵੇਖਕੇ ਭਰੋਸਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਕਿ ਇਹ ਸੱਚਾ ਨਗਰ ਵਸਦਾ ਹੈ)।
How can mirage in desert quench the thirst?
ਥਲਵਿਚਤਪਨਿਭਠੀਆਕਿਉਲਹੈਪਿਆਸਾ।
ਜਿਸ ਥਲ ਵਿਖੇ ਭੱਠ ਤਪਣ (ਅਰਥਾਤ ਕਹਿਰ ਦੀ ਧੁੱਪ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੋਵੇ) ਉਥੇ ਕਿੱਕੁਰ ਤੇਹ ਲਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ? (ਭਾਵ ਮ੍ਰਿਗ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦਾ ਜਲ ਸੱਚ ਮੁੱਚ ਦਾ ਜਲ ਕਿਥੇ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ)।
People, in dreams enjoy by becoming kings (but in the morning they possess nothing).
ਸੁਹਣੇਰਾਜੁਕਮਾਈਐਕਰਿਭੋਗਬਿਲਾਸਾ।
ਸੁਫਨੇ ਵਿਖੇ ਰਾਜ ਕਰੀਏ ਅਰ ਨਾਨਾ ਭੋਗ ਬਿਲਾਸ ਕਮਾਈਐ (ਤਦ ਪੱਲੈ ਕੀਹ ਬੱਝਦਾ ਹੈ?)।
How can one hope that the shade of a tree would remain stationary?
ਛਾਇਆਬਿਰਖੁਨਰਹੈਥਿਰੁਪੁਜੈਕਿਉਆਸਾ।
ਬ੍ਰਿੱਛ ਦੀ ਛਾਂ ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਸਾ ਕਿੱਕੁਰ ਪੂਰਣ ਹੋਵੇ, (ਭਾਵ ਭੋਜਨ ਅਜੇ ਵਿਚੇ ਹੀ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਸਿਰ ਤੇ ਧੁਪ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ)।
All this is a fake show like that of an acrobat's.
ਬਾਜੀਗਰਦੀਖੇਡਜਿਉਸਭੁਕੂੜੁਤਮਾਸਾ।
ਬਾਜੀਗਰ ਦੀ ਖੇਡ ਵਾਂਗੂੰ (ਬੇਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ) ਸਭ ਕੂੜੇ ਹੀ ਤਮਾਸ਼ੇ ਹਨ।
One who keeps association with dissemblers,
ਰਲੈਜੁਸੰਗਤਿਮੀਣਿਆਉਠਿਚਲੈਨਿਰਾਸਾ।੭।
ਮੀਣਿਆਂ' (ਅਰਥਾਤ ਬੇਮੁਖਾਂ) ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਖੇ ਜੋ ਮਿਲ ਬੈਠਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਨਿਰਾਸ ਹੋਕੇ (ਅੰਤ ਨੂੰ) ਉਠ ਤੁਰਤਾ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਦਿਨ ਕਾਣੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੇ, ਮਨ ਦੀ ਮਨ ਵਿਖੇ ਹੀ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ)।
Ultimately goes (from this world) disapponited.

ਕੋਇਲਕਾਂਉਰਲਾਈਅਨਿਕਿਉਹੋਵਨਿਇਕੈ।
ਕੋਇਲਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਕਾਉਂ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਕੱਠੇ ਕਰੀਏ ਤਾਂ ਕੀ ਇਕ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ? (ਅੱਗੇ ਉਤਰ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ)।
Crows and cuckoos however mixed, cannot be one.
ਤਿਉਨਿੰਦਕਜਗਜਾਣੀਅਨਿਬੋਲਿਬੋਲਣਿਫਿਕੈ।
ਤਿਵੇਂ ਬੇਮੁਖ ਲੋਕ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਖੇ ਜਾਣੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਓਹ) ਕੌੜੇ ਬੋਲ (ਕਾਵਾਂ ਵਾਂਗੂੰ) ਬੋਲਦੇ ਹਨ (ਅਰ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਕੋਇਲਾਂ ਵਾਂਗੂੰ ਸਭ ਨੂੰ ਅਨੰਦਦਾਇਕ ਬਚਨ ਬੋਲਦੇ ਹਨ)।
Likewise the slanderers are distinguished in the world by their cheap and low talk.
ਬਗੁਲੇਹੰਸੁਬਰਾਬਰੀਕਿਉਮਿਕਨਿਮਿਕੈ।
ਬਗਲਾ ਹੰਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਾਬਰੀ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਕਿੱਕੁਰ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਮਿਲੌਨੀ ਵਿਖੇ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ? (“ਹੰਸਾਂ ਹੀਰਾ ਮੋਤੀ ਚੁਗਣਾ ਬਗੁ ਡਡਾ ਭਾਲਣ ਜਾਵੈ”)।
How can a crane and a swan be equated by the same measurement?
ਤਿਉਬੇਮੁਖਚੁਣਿਕਢੀਅਨਿਮੁਹਿਕਾਲੇਟਿਕੈ।
ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਬੇਮੁਖ (ਹੰਸਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਚੁਣਕੇ ਕੱਢੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਅਰ ਮੂੰਹਾਂ ਪੁਰ ਕਾਲੇ ਦਾਗ ਦਿਤੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਹੰਸਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਮਿਲ ਨਾ ਸੱਕਣ)।
Similarly the apostates are picked up, separated and stigmatized.
ਕਿਆਨੀਸਾਣੀਮੀਣਿਆਖੋਟੁਸਾਲੀਸਿਕੈ।
ਕਿਆ ਚਿੰਨ ਹੈ ਬੇਮੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਉਹ ਖੋਟੀ ਟਕਸਾਲ ਦੇ ਸਿੱਕੇ (ਰੁਪਏ) ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਚਿੰਨ ਚੱਕ੍ਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ)।
What is the hall mark of dissemblers? They are like counter-feit coins of a fake mint.
ਸਿਰਿਸਿਰਿਪਾਹਣੀਮਾਰੀਅਨਿਓਇਪੀਰਫਿਟਿਕੈ।੮।
ਸਿਰੇ ਸਿਰ ਜੁੱਤੀਆਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਮਾਰਾਂ ਖਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਜਿਥੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ) ਉਥੇ ਹੀ 'ਪੀਰ ਫਿਟਿਕੇ' ਦੀ ਗਾਲ ਖਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਇਹੋ ਜੁੱਤੀਆਂ ਹਨ)।

ਰਾਤੀਨੀਂਗਰਖੇਲਦੇਸਭਹੋਇਇਕਠੇ।
(ਚਾਂਦਨੀ) ਰਾਤ ਦੇ ਵੇਲੇ ਬਾਲਕ ਸਭ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਹੋਕੇ ਖੇਡਾਂ ਖੇਡਦੇ ਹਨ।
Children play getting together in the evening.
ਰਾਜਾਪਰਜਾਹੋਵਦੇਕਰਿਸਾਂਗਉਪਠੇ।
ਕੋਈ ਰਾਜਾ ਕੋਈ ਪਰਜਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਲਟੇ ਪੁਲਟੇ ਕਈ ਸਾਂਗ ਬਣਾ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
Someone disguised as King and the rest as subjects, they enact ridiculous scenes.
ਇਕਿਲਸਕਰਲੈਧਾਵਦੇਇਕਿਫਿਰਦੇਨਠੇ।
ਇਕ (ਮੁੰਡਿਆਂ ਦੀ) ਸੈਨਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਲਾਕੇ ਦੌੜਦੇ ਹਨ। ਇਕ (ਹਾਰ ਖਾਕੇ) ਨੱਠੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
Some of them leading the army rush from place to place and some getting defeated flee helter-skelter.
ਠੀਕਰੀਆਂਹਾਲੇਭਰਨਿਉਇਖਰੇਅਸਠੇ।
ਇਕ ਠੀਕਰੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਰੁਪਏ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਮਾਮਲੇ ਤਾਰਨ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਓਹ ਖਰੇ ਸਿਆਣੇ (ਬਣ ਬਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ)।
They pay tax by offering potshreds and thus become wise.
ਖਿਨਵਿਚਿਖੇਡਉਜਾੜਿਦੇਘਰੁਘਰੁਨੂੰਤ੍ਰਠੇ।
ਥੋੜੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਖੇਡ ਨੂੰ ਉਜਾੜ ਕੇ ਘਰੋ ਘਰੀ ਨੱਸਕੇ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। (ਦਾਰਸ਼ਟਾਂਤ ਦੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ)
Within few moments they ruin their game and run for their homes.
ਵਿਣੁਗੁਣੁਗੁਰੂਸਦਾਇਦੇਓਇਖੋਟੇਮਠੇ।੯।
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਬਾਝ ਜੋ (ਮੂਰਖ ਲੋਕ) ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਦਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਓਹ ਖੋਟੇ ਤੇ (ਮਨ ਦੇ) ਆਲਸੀ ਢੱਗੇ ਹਨ।
Those who without merit call themselves Guru, are sluggish dissemblers.
ਪਉੜੀ੧੦
ਉਚਾਲੰਮਾਝਾਟੁਲਾਵਿਚਿਬਾਗਦਿਸੰਦਾ।
ਸੰਘਣਾ (ਸਿੰਮਲ ਦਾ ਬੂਟਾ) ਬਾਗ ਵਿਖੇ (ਸੁੰਦਰ) ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।
Tall, high and luxuriant, the silk cotton tree is seen in the garden.
ਮੋਟਾਮੁਢੁਪਤਾਲਿਜੜਿਬਹੁਗਰਬਕਰੰਦਾ।
ਮੁੰਢ ਮੋਟਾ ਹੈ ਜੜ੍ਹ (ਵੱਡੀ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਮਾਨੋਂ) ਪਤਾਲ (ਗਈ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ।) ਹੰਕਾਰ ਵੱਡਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਦ੍ਰਿੜ ਅਰ ਵਿਸਥਾਰ ਵਾਲਾ ਹਾਂ)।
It is proud of its stout trunk and deep roots.
ਪਤਸੁਪਤਰਸੋਹਣੇਵਿਸਥਾਰੁਬਣੰਦਾ।
ਪੱਤ ਸਾਵੇ ਤੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਹਨ, ਲੰਮੇ ਚੌੜੇ ਫੈਲਾਉ ਵਿਖੇ ਪਸਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
Its beautiful green leaves enhance its spread.
ਫੁਲਰਤੇਫਲਬਕਬਕੇਹੋਇਅਫਲਫਲੰਦਾ।
ਫੁਲ ਲਾਲ ਪਰੰਤੂ ਫਲ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਬਕਬਕੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ, ਇਸ ਲਈ ਫਲਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਬੀ ਅੱਫਲ ਹੈ, (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ)
But because of its red flowers and insipid fruit it fructifies in vain.
ਸਾਵਾਤੋਤਾਚੁਹਚੁਹਾਤਿਸੁਦੇਖਿਭੁਲੰਦਾ।
ਸਾਵੇ ਰੰਗ ਦੇ ਤੋਤੇ ਚੁਹ ਚੁਹ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਚੀਕਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਫਲਾਂ ਪਰ ਭੁੱਲਦੇ ਹਨ।
Seeing it, the chirping green parrot gets deluded
ਪਿਛੋਦੇਪਛੁਤਾਇਦਾਓਹੁਫਲੁਨਲਹੰਦਾ।੧੦।
ਪਿੱਛੋਂ ਨੂੰ ਓਹ ਪੱਛੋਤਾਪ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੁੜ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ) ਓਹ (ਅਨੰਦਦਾਇਕ) ਫਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕੇ।
But repents afterwards because it gets no fruit on that tree.
ਪਉੜੀ੧੧
ਪਹਿਨੈਪੰਜੇਕਪੜੇਪੁਰਸਾਵਾਂਵੇਸੁ।
(ਹੀਜੜਾ) ਪੁਰਸ਼ਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ (ਸਾਰਾ) ਵੇਸ ਕਰੇ, ਪੰਜ ਕਪੜੇ ਬੀ ਪਹਿਨ ਲਵੇ।
Wearing five garments one may assume the garb of a male person.
ਮੁਛਾਂਦਾੜ੍ਹੀਸੋਹਣੀਬਹੁਦੁਰਬਲਵੇਸੁ।
ਮੁੱਛਾਂ ਤੇ ਦਾਹੜੀ ਬੀ ਸੋਹਣੀ (ਲਾ ਲਵੇ, ਯਾ ਹੋ ਪਵੇ ਤੇ) ਡੀਲ ਬੀ ਛੀਟਕੀ ਹੋਵੇ।
He may have beautiful beard and moustaches and a slim body.
ਸੈਹਥਿਆਰੀਸੂਰਮਾਪੰਚੀਂਪਰਵੇਸੁ।
ਸੋ (ਸਾਰੇ) ਹਥਿਆਰ ਲਾ ਕੇ ਸੂਰਮਾਂ (ਬੀ ਬਣੇ ਤੇ) ਚੌਧਰੀ ਬਨ ਬੈਠੇ।
Wielder of a hundred weapons he may be counted among prominent knights.
ਮਾਹਰੁਦੜਦੀਬਾਣਵਿਚਿਜਾਣੈਸਭੁਦੇਸੁ।
ਦੀਵਾਨ ਆਦਿਕ ਵਿਚ ਮੁਖੀਆ (ਬੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਵੇ) ਸਾਰੇ ਦੇਸ਼ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਮੁਖੀਆ) ਜਾਣ ਬੀ ਲਵੇ।
He may be an adept courtier and widely known throughout the country.
ਪੁਰਖੁਨਗਣਿਪੁਰਖਤੁਵਿਣੁਕਾਮਣਿਕਿਕਰੇਸੁ।
ਪੁਰਖੱਤਾ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪੁਰਖ ਨਾ ਗਿਣ, (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਵਹੁਟੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੀਹ ਕਰੇ (ਭਾਵ ਸਾਰੇ ਮਰਦਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਸ਼ਿੰਗਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਹੁੰਦਿਆਂ ਉਹ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦੇ ਗਉਂ ਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਨਿਗੁਰੇ ਪੁਰਖ ਜਗਿਆਸੂਆਂ ਲਈ ਨਿਕੰਮੇ ਹਨ)।
But without masculinity, of what use is he to a woman?
ਵਿਣੁਗੁਰਗੁਰੂਸਦਾਇਦੇਕਉਣਕਰੈਅਦੇਸੁ।੧੧।
ਜੋ ਗੁਰੂ ਹੀਣ ਗੁਰੂ ਬਣ ਬੈਠਦੇ ਹਨ (ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਕਉਣ ਮੱਥਾ ਟੇਕੇ?
Who would bow before those who are without merit and get themselves called Guru

ਗਲੀਂਜੇਸਹੁਪਾਈਐਤੋਤਾਕਿਉਫਾਸੈ।
ਜੋ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਸ਼ਹੁ ਮਿਲੇ (ਤਦ ਬਹੁਤ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਦਾ ਧਨ) ਤੋਤਾ ਕਿਉਂ ਫਸੇ (ਪਿੰਜਰੇ ਪਵੇ)।
If mere chatter could help meet the beloved, why should a parrot remain encaged?
ਮਿਲੈਨਬਹੁਤੁਸਿਆਣਪੈਕਾਉਗੂੰਹੁਗਿਰਾਸੈ।
ਜੇ ਅੱਤ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲੇ (ਤਦ) ਕਾਉਂ ਗੰਦਗੀ ਕਿਉਂ ਖਾਵੇ?
He is not attained by over-cleverness and the clever crow ultimately eats faeces.
ਜੋਰਾਵਰੀਨਜਿਪਈਸੀਹਸਹਾਵਿਣਾਸੈ।
ਤੇ ਜ਼ੋਰਵਾਰੀ ਨਾਲ (ਬੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ (ਜੇ ਮਿਲੇ ਤਕ) ਸਹਿਆ ਸ਼ੇਰ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਾਰ ਲਵੇ?
The power also does not win (the intellect wins) because an hare caused a lion killed (by showing its reflection and making it jump into the well).
ਗੀਤਕਵਿਤੁਨਭਿਜਈਭਟਭੇਖਉਦਾਸੈ।
ਜੇ (ਨਿਰੇ) ਗੀਤਾਂ ਤੇ ਕਬੇੱਤਾਂ ਪਰ ਹੀ ਰੀਝੇ ਤਕ ਭੱਟ (ਕਿਉਂ) ਦਾਸ ਵੇਸ ਵਿਚ ਹਨ?
The beloved is not lured by lyrics and poems, otherwise why should minstrels adopt the garb of sannyasis.
ਜੋਬਨਰੂਪੁਨਮੋਹੀਐਰੰਗੁਕੁਸੁੰਭਦੁਰਾਸੈ।
ਜੋਬਨ ਰੂਪ ਨਾਲ ਬੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੋਹੀਦਾ ਕਸੁੰਭੇ ਦਾ ਰੰਗ (ਤੇ ਜੋਬਨ ਚੁਹਚੁਹਾਪਨ) ਨਾਸ਼ ਹੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
He is not attracted by youth and beauty because the colour of safflower is not permanent.
ਵਿਣੁਸੇਵਾਦੋਹਾਗਣੀਪਿਰੁਮਿਲੈਨਹਾਸੈ।੧੨।
ਹੇ ਦੋਹਾਗਣੀ। ਸੇਵਾ ਬਿਨ ਪਤੀ ਹਾਸਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ।
Without service (to the Lord and His creation) this soul is deserted woman and the beloved is not attained merely by laughing (foolishly). He is attained through service.

ਸਿਰਤਲਵਾਏਪਾਈਐਚਮਗਿਦੜਜੂਹੈ।
ਜੇ ਸਿਰ ਹੇਠ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ (ਉਰਧ ਤਪ, ਬ੍ਰਿੱਛਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਟੰਗੀਜ ਕੇ) ਮਿਲਦੀ ਤਾਂ ਬਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਚਮਗਿੱਦੜਾਂ (ਨੂੰ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦੀ)।
If bowing only could grant liberation then the bats in the forests hang from trees upside down.
ਮੜੀਮਸਾਣੀਜੇਮਿਲੈਵਿਚਿਖੁਡਾਂਚੂਹੈ।
ਜੇ ਮੜੀਆਂ ਮਸਾਣਾਂ (ਵਿਚ ਵਸਿਆਂ ਯਾ ਅਗਨ ਤਪ ਤਪਿਆਂ) ਮਿਲਦੀ ਤਾਂ ਚੂਹਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਖੁਡਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦੀ (ਖੁੱਡਾਂ ਕਬਰ ਸਮਾਨ ਕਹੀਆਂ ਹਨ)
If liberation were achieved in the loneliness of crematories then rats should get it in their holes.
ਮਿਲੈਨਵਡੀਆਰਜਾਬਿਸੀਅਰੁਵਿਹੁਲੂਹੈ।
ਵੱਡੀ ਉਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਬੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦੀ, ਸੱਪ (ਵੱਡੀ ਉਮਰ ਵਾਲਾ) ਜ਼ਹਿਰ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਲੂੰਹਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਯਾ ਚਿਰਜੀਵੇ ਜੋਗੀ ਮੁਕਤ ਕਿਉਂ ਨਾਂ ਹੁੰਦੇ, ਉਮਰ ਵਧਾਣ ਤੇ ਲਾਲਚ ਰੂਪ ਵਿਹੁ ਵਿਚ ਕਿਉਂ ਫਸੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ)।
Longevity also does not bring it because snake during its whole long life goes on smouldering in its own poison.
ਹੋਇਕੁਚੀਲੁਵਰਤੀਐਖਰਸੂਰਭਸੂਹੇ।
ਜੇ ਕੁਚੀਲ (ਸ੍ਰਾਵਗੀ ਜਾਂ ਘੋਰੀ ਬਣਿਆਂ) ਵਰਤਣ ਵਰਤਿਆ (ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦੀ ਤਦ) ਸੂਰ ਤੇ ਖੋਤੇ ਭਸ- ਖੇਹ- ਵਿਚ ਕਿਉਂ ਰੁਲਦੇ?
If dirt could make it attainable, asses and swines always remain dirty and muddy.

ਜੇ ਕੰਦ ਮੂਲ (ਫਲਾਂ ਫੁਲਾਂ) ਪੁਰ ਗੁਜ਼ਾਰਾ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ (ਬਨਬਾਸੀ ਹੋਇਆਂ ਫਲੋਹਾਰੀ ਵਰਤ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਤਾਂ ਭੇਡਾਂ ਬਕਰੀਆਂ ਦੇ) ਅੱਯੜ ਵਣ ਹੀ ਖਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। (ਪਰ ਮੁਕਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਏ।
If relishing over tubers and roots could provide it (liberation), then herd of animals go on hauling and eating them (they should also have attained liberation).
ਵਿਣੁਗੁਰਮੁਕਤਿਨਹੋਵਈਜਿਉਂਘਰੁਵਿਣੁਬੂਹੇ।੧੩।
ਬਿਨਾਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ, ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਬੂਹਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਨਹੀਂ (ਕਹੀਦਾ)।
As a house (in fact) is useless without door, one cannot attain liberation without Guru.
ਪਉੜੀ੧੪
ਮਿਲੈਜਿਤੀਰਥਿਨਾਤਿਆਂਡਡਾਂਜਲਵਾਸੀ।
ਜੇ ਤੀਰਥ ਨ੍ਹਾਤਿਆਂ (ਮੁਕਤੀ) ਮਿਲਦੀ (ਤਾਂ) ਡੱਡਾਂ ਬੀ ਜਲ ਵਾਸੀ ਹਨ।
If one could attain liberation by taking bath at pilgrimage centres then (we know that) the frogs always live in water.
ਵਾਲਵਧਾਇਆਂਪਾਈਐਬੜਜਟਾਂਪਲਾਸੀ।
ਜਟਾਂ ਵਧਾਇਆਂ (ਬੀ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦੀ), ਮਿਲਦੀ (ਹੁੰਦੀ ਤਾਂ) ਬੋੜ੍ਹ ਦੀਆਂ ਜੜ੍ਹਾਵਾਂ (ਬਹੁਤ) ਲਮਕਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ।
If growing long hair could make it available then the banyan has long roots hanging from it.
ਨੰਗੇਰਹਿਆਂਜੇਮਿਲੈਵਣਿਮਿਰਗਉਦਾਸੀ।
(ਨਿਰੇ) ਨੰਗੇ ਰਿਹਾਂ ਜੇ (ਮੁਕਤ) ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਬਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਰਗ (ਖਰੇ) ਉਦਾਸੀ (ਨਾਂਗੇ) ਹਨ।
If going naked gets it, all the deer in the forest can be called detached ones.
ਭਸਮਲਾਇਜੇਪਾਈਐਖਰੁਖੇਹਨਿਵਾਸੀ।
ਜੇ ਭਬੂਤ (ਸੁਆਹ) ਲਾਇਆਂ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਖੋਤਾ ਖੇਹ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਲੇਟਦਾ ਹੈ।
If it is attained by smearing ashes on body, the ass always rolls in dust.
ਜੇਪਾਈਐਚੁਪਕੀਤਿਆਂਪਸੂਆਂਜੜਹਾਸੀ।
ਜੇ ਚੁਪ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਪਾ ਸਕੀਦੀ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਪਸੂ (ਸਭ) ਜੜ੍ਹ-(ਮੌਨ) - ਹੀ ਹਨ।
If muteness could bring it, the animals and inert objects are certainly speechless.
ਵਿਣੁਗੁਰਮੁਕਤਿਨਹੋਵਈਗੁਰਮਿਲੈਖਲਾਸੀ।੧੪।
ਗੁਰੂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦੀ (ਸੰਸਾਰ, ਆਵਾਗਵਨ, ਪਾਪ, ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਖਲਾਸੀ ਗੁਰੂ (ਦੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਨਾਲ) ਹੀ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ।
No liberation is attained without Guru and bondages are shattered only after meeting the Guru.

ਜੜੀਬੂਟੀਜੇਜੀਵੀਐਕਿਉਮਰੈਧਨੰਤਰੁ।
ਜੋ ਜੜੀਆਂ ਬੂਟੀਆਂ (ਦਵਾਵਾਂ) ਨਾਲ (ਅਮਰ ਜੀਵਨ - ਮੁਕਤੀ ਜੀਵਨ) ਜੀਉ ਸਕੀਏ ਤਾਂ ਧਨੰਤਰ ਵੈਦ ਕਿਉਂ ਮਰਦਾ?
If herbal medicines could keep one alive, why did Dhanvantri (the father of Indian system of medicine) die?
ਤੰਤੁਮੰਤੁਬਾਜੀਗਰਾਂਓਇਭਵਹਿਦਿਸੰਤਰੁ।
ਤੰਤ੍ਰਾਂ ਮੰਤ੍ਰਾਂ (ਜਾਦੂਆਂ) ਨਾਲ (ਅਮਰ ਜੀਵਨ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਤਾਂ) ਬਾਜ਼ੀਗਰ ਕਿਉਂ ਦੇਸ਼ਾਂਤ੍ਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ (ਪੈਸੇ ਮੰਗਦੇ) ਫਿਰਦੇ?
Conjurers know many tantras and mantras yet they roam about hither and thither in the country.
ਰੁਖੀਂਬਿਰਖੀਂਪਾਈਐਕਾਸਟਬੈਸੰਤਰੁ।
ਜੇ ਰੁੱਖਾਂ ਬ੍ਰਿਛਾਂ (ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗੀਜਿਆਂ, ਜਾਂ ਤੁਲਸੀ ਪਿੱਪਲ ਆਦਿ ਪੂਜਿਆਂ ਮੁਕਤੀ) ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਤਾਂ ਕਾਠ ਨੂੰ ਅੱਗ (ਕਿਉਂ ਤੋਂ ਵਿਆਪਦੀ ਹੈ, ਕਾਠ ਆਪ ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਤੋਂ ਵਿਪਾਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਇਆ)
If worship of trees could make it available, why should trees themselves get burnt (by their own fire)?
ਮਿਲੈਨਵੀਰਾਰਾਧੁਕਰਿਠਗਚੋਰਨਅੰਤਰੁ।
ਭੂਤ ਸੇਵਿਆਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦੀ, ਚੋਰ ਤੇ ਠੱਗਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਅੰਤਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ (ਭਾਵ ਭੂਤ ਸੇਵੀ, ਚੋਰ ਤੇ ਠੱਗਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਕੁਛ ਫਰਕ ਨਹੀਂ, ਭੂਤ ਸੇਵੀ ਠੱਗੀ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਧਨ ਮੁਛ (ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ)।
Adoration of evil and ferocious spirits also does not bring liberation because there is no basic difference between a thief and a cheat.
ਮਿਲੈਨਰਾਤੀਜਾਗਿਆਂਅਪਰਾਧਭਵੰਤਰੁ।
ਰਾਤ ਜਾਗਿਆਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ, ਅਪਰਾਧੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਰਾਤ ਭੌਂਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਚੋਰ, ਜਾਰ, ਕੁਆਰ, ਰਾਤ ਜਾਗਕੇ ਹੀ ਪਾਪ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ)
Liberation cannot be attained through sleepless nights because criminals too remain awake at night wandering here and there.
ਵਿਣੁਗੁਰਮੁਕਤਿਨਹੋਵਈਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਅਮਰੰਤਰੁ।੧੫।
ਬਿਨਾਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ, ਗੁਰਮਖ ਅਮਰ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਅਮਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
Without Guru no liberation is achieved and the Guru-oriented, gutmulchs become immortal and make others so too.
ਪਉੜੀ੧੬
ਘੰਟੁਘੜਾਇਆਚੂਹਿਆਂਗਲਿਬਿਲੀਪਾਈਐ।
ਚੂਹਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਘੜਿਆਲ ਬਨਵਾਇਆ ਕਿ ਬਿੱਲੀ ਦੇ ਗਲ ਪਾ ਦੇਈਏ, (ਤਾਂ ਜੋ, ਜਦ ਆਵੇ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਪਤਾ ਲੱਗ ਜਾਵੇ ਕਿ ਮਾਸੀ ਆਈ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਏਹ ਬਾਤ ਅੰਸਭਵ ਹੈ, ਚੂਹੇ ਕਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੇ)।
Rats got a bell made so that it could be hung from the neck of the cat (but it could not materialise).
ਮਤਾਮਤਾਇਆਮਖੀਆਂਘਿਅਅੰਦਰਿਨਾਈਐ।
ਮੱਖੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਸਲਾਹ ਕੀਤੀ ਕਿ ਘਿਉ ਵਿਚ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰੀਏ (ਇਹ ਬੀ ਅਸੰਭਵ ਹੈ)।
The flies thought of taking bath in ghee (but all got killed).
ਸੂਤਕੁਲਹੈਨਕੀੜਿਆਂਕਿਉਝਥੁਲੰਘਾਈਐ।
ਕੀੜੀਆਂ (ਸਲਾਹ ਕੀਤੀ ਕਿ ਸੂਤਕ ਲਾਹੀਏ ਪਰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ) ਵਕਤ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੰਘਦਾ (ਇਹ ਬੀ ਅਸੰਭਵ ਹੈ)।
The defilement of worms and moth never ends then how should they spend their time!
ਸਾਵਣਿਰਹਣਭੰਬੀਰੀਆਂਜੇਪਾਰਿਵਸਾਈਐ।
ਜੇ ਜਤਨ (ਬੀ ਕਰੀਏ ਸਾਵਣ ਦੇ ਭੰਬਟ ਭੰਬੀਰੀਆਂ ਰਹਿ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੇ (ਭੰਬਟ ਰਾਤ ਰਾਤ ਵਿਚ ਤੇ ਭੰਬੀਰੀਆਂ ਕੁਝ ਦਿਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਮਰ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਰੱਖਣਾ ਬੀ ਅਸੰਭਵ ਹੈ)।
Insects keep hovering over water surfaces in Silvan (rainy month) howsoever one might try to drive them away.
ਕੂੰਜੜੀਆਂਵੈਸਾਖਵਿਚਿਜਿਉਜੂਹਪਰਾਈਐ।
ਵੈਸਾਖ ਵਿਚ ਜਿਕੂੰ ਕੂੰਜਾਂ ਪਰਾਈਆਂ ਜੂਹਾਂ ਵਿਚ (ਬੈਠਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਸਦਾ ਓਥੇ ਰਖ ਲੈਣੀਆਂ ਅਸੰਭਵ ਹਨ)।
As in the month of Vaisakh migratory heron birds fly over foreign lands.
ਵਿਣੁਗੁਰਮੁਕਤਿਨਹੋਵਈਫਿਰਿਆਈਐਜਾਈਐ।੧੬।
(ਤਿਵੇਂ ਅਸੰਭਵ ਹੈ) ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨਾਂ (ਮੁਕਤ ਹੋਣੀ ਆਵਾਗਵਨ ਮਿਟਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ, ਮੁਕਤਿ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ।)
Man without the Guru is not liberated and suffers transmigration.

ਜੇਖੁਥੀਬਿੰਡਾਬਹੈਕਿਉਹੋਇਬਜਾਜੁ।
ਜੇ ਬੀਂਡਾ ਥੇਕੀ ਪਰ ਬੈਠ ਜਾਵੇ ਉਹ ਬਜਾਜ ਕਿਕੂੰ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ?
A cricket sitting on the heap of cloth does not become a draper.
ਕੁਤੇਦੇਗਲਵਾਸਣੀਨਸਰਾਫੀਸਾਜੁ।
ਜੇ ਕੁੱਤੇ ਦੇ ਗਲ ਵਾਂਸਲੀ (ਬੰਨ੍ਹ ਦੇਈਏ) ਤਦ ਉਹ ਸਰਾਫ ਵਾਲਾ ਸਮਾਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ।
If a money belt is tied around the neck of a dog, it does not become a gold merchant.
ਰਤਨਮਣੀਗਲਿਬਾਂਦਰੈਜਉਹਰੀਨਹਿਕਾਜੁ।
ਬਾਂਦਰ ਦੇ ਗਲ ਰਤਨ ਮਾਣਕ (ਬੰਨ੍ਹ ਦੇਈਏ ਤਦ ਉਹ ਜੌਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ।
Tying of rubies and jewels around the neck of monkey does not make it behave like a jeweller.
ਗਦਹੁੰਚੰਦਨਲਦੀਐਨਹਿੰਗਾਂਧੀਗਾਜੁ।
ਖੋਤੇ ਉਤੇ ਚੰਦਨ ਲੱਦ ਦੇਈਏ) ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਗਾਂਧੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਹੀਦਾ।
Laden with sandalwood, the donkey cannot be called a perfumer.
ਜੇਮਖੀਮੁਹਿਮਕੜੀਕਿਉਹੋਵੈਬਾਜੁ।
ਜੇ ਮਕੜੀ (ਡੌਰੇ) ਦੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਵਿਚ ਮੱਖੀ (ਆ ਜਾਵੇ) ਉਹ ਬਾਜ ਕਿਕੂੰ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ?
If per chance a fly goes into the mouth of a spider, the latter does not become a hawk.
ਸਚੁਸਚਾਵਾਂਕਾਂਢੀਐਕੂੜਿਕੂੜਾਪਾਜੁ।੧੭।
(ਤਿਵੇਂ ਹੀ ਸੱਚ ਨਾਲ ਲੱਭ ਲਈਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕੂੜੇ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ (ਦਸ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਹ) ਝੁਠਾ (ਤਯਾਗਨੀਯ ਹੈ)।
The truth is always true and the falsehood always fake

ਅੰਙਣਿਪੁਤੁਗਵਾਂਢਣੀਕੂੜਾਵਾਮਾਣੁ।
(ਆਪਣੇ) ਵੇਹੜੇ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਆਂਢਣ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤ (ਆ ਜਾਵੇ ਤਦ ਆਪਣਾ ਜਾਣਕੇ (ਉਸ ਦਾ) ਮਾਣ ਕਰਨਾ ਝੂਠਾ ਹੈ।
Pride on account of a neighbour's son who has come to your courtyard is false and vain.
ਪਾਲੀਚਉਣਾਚਾਰਦਾਘਰਵਿਤੁਨਜਾਣੁ।
ਛੇੜੂ ਵੱਗ ਨੂੰ ਚਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਪਰ ਵੱਗ ਨੂੰ) ਘਰ ਦਾ ਮਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣ ਸਕਦਾ।
A cowherd grazing animals cannot consider them as his property.
ਬਦਰਾਸਿਰਿਵੇਗਾਰੀਐਨਿਰਧਨੁਹੈਰਾਣੁ।
(ਰੁਪੱਯਾਂ ਦੀ) ਥੈਲੀ ਵੰਗਾਰੀ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਤੇ ਹੁੰਦਿਆਂ ਬੀ ਉਹ ਨਿਰਧਨ ਤੇ ਹੈਰਾਨ (ਦੁਖੀ) ਹੈ (ਯਥਾ:- “ਖੇਦੁ ਭਇਓ ਬੇਗਾਰੀ ਨਿਆਈ ਘਰ ਕੇ ਕਾਮਿ ਨ ਆਇਆ”)।
A bonded labourer carrying a bag full of money on his head,
ਜਿਉਕਰਿਰਾਖਾਖੇਤਵਿਚਿਨਾਹੀਕਿਰਸਾਣੁ।
ਜਿਕੂੰ ਰਾਖਾ ਖੇਤ ਵਿਚ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਉਹ) ਜ਼ਿਮੀਦਾਰ (ਖੇਤ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ) ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ।
Would still remain poor and wonderstruck.
ਪਰਘਰੁਜਾਣੈਆਪਣਾਮੂਰਖੁਮਿਹਮਾਣੁ।
(ਉਹ) ਪਰਾਹੁਣਾ ਮੂਰਖ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਪਰਾਏ ਘਰ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
As caretaker of the crop is not its owner, similarly the guest who considers other's house as his own is a stupid one.
ਅਣਹੋਂਦਾਆਪੁਗਣਾਇੰਦਾਓਹੁਵਡਾਅਜਾਣੁ।੧੮।
(ਤਿਵੇਂ ਜੋ) ਅਣਹੋਂਦ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਗਣਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਵੱਡਾ ਮੂਰਖ ਹੈ। (ਯਥਾ:-ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇ ਨਰ ਅਸਲਿ ਖਰ ਜਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਣ ਗਰਬੁ ਕਰੰਤ॥”)
He is the biggest ignorant fool who having nothing of his own pretends to be master of everything.

ਕੀੜੀਵਾਕਨਥੰਮੀਐਹਸਤੀਦਾਭਾਰੁ।
ਕੀੜੀ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਹਾਥੀ ਦਾ ਭਾਰ ਧੰਮ੍ਹੀਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ।
An ant cannot bear the weight of an elephant.
ਹਥਮਰੋੜੇਮਖੁਕਿਉਹੋਵੈਸੀਂਹਮਾਰੁ।
ਮੱਖ ਕਿੰਨਾ ਹੀ ਹੱਥ ਮਰੋੜੇ, ਕੀ ਸ਼ੀਹ ਮਾਰ ਬਣ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਹੱਥਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮੱਖੀਆਂ ਮਰੋੜਕੇ ਸ਼ੀਹ ਮਾਰ ਕਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਬਣ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ)।
How can a fly turning and twisting its limbs be a killer of lions?
ਮਛਰੁਡੰਗੁਨਪੁਜਈਬਿਸੀਅਰੁਬੁਰਿਆਰੁ।
ਮੱਛਰ ਦਾ ਡੰਗ ਬਰੀਆਰ (ਜ਼ਬਰ ਦਸਤ) ਸਪ ਦੇ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਪੁੱਜ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ।
Mosquito's sting can never equate itself with the poison of a serpent.

ਜੇਕਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੀ ਸਉੜੀ (ਰਜਾਈ) ਵਿਚ ਬਾਹਲੀਆਂ ਜੂੰਆ ਸੰਜਰ ਜਾਣ (ਘਰ ਕਰ ਜਾਣ) ਕੀ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਰਾਜਾ (ਇਸ ਲਈ ਬਣ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮੇਰੇ ਵਿਚ ਜੂੰਆਂ ਦਾ ਲਸ਼ਕਰ ਬਾਹਲਾ ਹੈ) (ਅਥਵਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੀ ਵਹੁਟੀ ਦੀ 'ਸਉੜੀ' ਗੁੱਤ ਵਿਖੇ ਜੂੰਆਂ ਹੋਣ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਭਰਤਾ ਰਾਜਾ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਭਾਵ ਜੂੰਆਂ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਾਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਤਾਂ ਦੇ

ਪੁਤੁਜਣੈਵੜਿਕੋਠੜੀਬਾਹਰਿਜਗੁਜਾਣੈ।
(ਮਾਂ) ਪੁੱਤ੍ਰ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਠੜੀ ਵਿਚ ਵੜਕੇ ਜਣਦੀ ਹੈ ਪਰ) ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ ਬਾਹਰ ਮਲੂਮ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
A son is given birth in a closed room but all the people outside come to know of it.
ਧਨੁਧਰਤੀਵਿਚਿਦਬੀਐਮਸਤਕਿਪਰਵਾਣੈ।
ਦੌਲਤ ਧਰਤੀ ਵਿਖੇ ਦੱਬੀਦੀ ਹੈ, ਮੱਥੇ ਵਿਖੇ (ਲੋਕ ਦਮਕ ਵੇਖਕੇ) ਪਰਵਾਣ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।

ਵਾਟਵਟਾਊਆਖਦੇਵੁਠੈਇੰਦ੍ਰਾਣੈ।
ਰਸਤੇ ਦੇ 'ਵਟਾਊ' (ਰਾਹੀ) ਲੋਕ ਬੀ ਦੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਮੀਂਹ ਵਰਸਿਆ ਹੈ। (ਭਾਵ ਵਰਖਾ ਗੁੱਝੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ)।

ਸਭੁਕੋਸੀਸੁਨਿਵਾਇਦਾਚੜ੍ਹਿਐਚੰਦ੍ਰਾਣੈ।
(ਦੂਜ ਦੇ) ਚੰਦ ਚੜੇ ਨੂੰ ਹਰ ਕੋਈ ਮੱਥਾ ਟੇਕਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਗੋਰਖਦੇਗਲਿਗੋਦੜੀਜਗੁਨਾਥੁਵਖਾਣੈ।
ਗੋਰਖ ਦੇ ਗਲ ਵਿਖੇ ਗੋਦੜੀ ਹੈ ਫਿਰ ਬੀ ਜਗਤ ਨਾਥ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਭਾਵ ਇਹ ਕਿ ਗੋਦੜੀ ਨਾਲ ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਨਾਥ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਉਹ ਤਾਂ ਇਕ ਅਕਾਲ ਹੀ ਹੈ। ਅਜਿਹਾ ਹੀ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕੋਈ ਵੱਡਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ, ਨਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਵੇਸ ਨਾਲ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਣ ਚਾਹੀਏ)

ਮੈਂ ਅਪਰਾਧੀ¹, ਕਸੂਰ ਕਰਣ ਵਾਲਾ², ਬੇਮੁਖ³ ਅਤੇ ਮੰਦਾ⁴ ਹਾਂ।
I am a criminal, a sinner, evil and apostate.
ਚੋਰੁਯਾਰੁਜੂਆਰਿਹਉਪਰਘਰਿਜੋਹੰਦਾ।
ਚੋਰ⁵, ਯਾਰ⁶, ਜੁਆਰੀਆ⁷, ਅਰ ਪਰਾਏ ਘਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਤੱਕਣ ਵਾਲਾ⁸ ਹਾਂ।
I am a thief, adulterer; gambler who always keeps his eye upon other's household.
ਨਿੰਦਕੁਦੁਸਟੁਹਰਾਮਖੋਰਠਗੁਦੇਸਠਗੰਦਾ।
ਨਿੰਦਕ⁹ ਦੁਸ਼ਟ¹⁰, ਹਰਾਮ ਖੋਰ¹¹, ਦੇਸਾਂ ਦੇ ਠਗਣ ਹਾਰਾ ਠੱਗ¹² ਹਾਂ।
I am a slanderer, knave, venal and a swindler who goes on cheating the whole world.
