(ਸਾਧ=ਸਿੱਧੀ। ਸਧਾਇ=ਸਾਧਕੇ। ਸਾਧੁ=ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਵਾ ਪਰੋਪਕਾਰੀ। ਓਰੈ=ਉਰੈ, ਆਸਰੇ ਵਿਚ, ਅੰਦਰ।)
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁਸਚਾਪਾਤਿਸਾਹੁਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਸਚੁਖੰਡੁਵਸਾਇਆ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ (ਗੁਰੂ ਅਰਜਨ ਦੇਵ ਜੀ) ਸੱਚੇ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਹਨ, (ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ) ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਦਾ ਸੱਚਾ ਖੰਡ ਵਸਾਇਆ (“ਅਠਸਠਿ ਤੀਰਥ ਜਹ ਸਾਧ ਪਗ ਧਰਹਿ”)।
The true Guru is true emperor who has founded the abode of truth in the form of the congregation of the saints.
ਗੁਰਸਿਖਲੈਗੁਰਸਿਖਹੋਇਆਪੁਗਵਾਇਨਆਪੁਗਣਾਇਆ।
(ਉਸ ਵਿਖੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖ੍ਯਾ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਆਪ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਹੋਕੇ ਆਪਾ ਭਾਵ ਨੂੰ ਗਵਾ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਤਾਉਂਦੇ।
The Sikhs living there being taught by the Guru, lose their ego and never make themselves noticed.
ਗੁਰਸਿਖਸਭੋਸਾਧਨਾਸਾਧਿਸਧਾਇਸਾਧੁਸਦਵਾਇਆ।
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਸਾਧਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਧੀ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਧ ਕੇ (ਸਾਧੂ=) ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਸਦਵਾਇਆ।
The Sikhs of the Guru get themselves called sadhus only after accomplishing all sorts of discipline.
ਚਹੁਵਰਣਾਉਪਦੇਸਦੇਮਾਇਆਵਿਚਿਉਦਾਸੁਰਹਾਇਆ।
ਚਹੁੰ ਵਰਣਾਂ (ਸਾਰੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ) ਨੂੰ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦੇਕੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਉਦਾਸ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹੈਨ।
They preach to all the four varnas and themselves remain indifferent in the midst of maya.
ਸਚਹੁਓਰੈਸਭੁਕਿਹੁਸਚੁਨਾਉਗੁਰਮੰਤੁਦਿੜਾਇਆ।
ਸੱਚ ਤੋਂ ਸਭ ਕਿਛ ਉਰੇ ਹੈ (ਸੱਚ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸਭ ਕਿਛ ਹੈ) ਇਸ ਲਈ ਸੱਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ੍ਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਦ੍ਰਿੜ੍ਹ ਕਰਾਇਆ।
They explain clearly that everything is below truth i.e. the truth is highest and only this mantra should be recited with deep integrity.
ਹੁਕਮੈਅੰਦਰਿਸਭਕੋਮੰਨੈਹੁਕਮੁਸੁਸਚਿਸਮਾਇਆ।
ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਸਭ ਕੋਈ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਉਸਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਮੰਨੇ ਸੋਈ ਸੱਚ ਵਿਚ ਸਮਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Everything is subsumed in the divine order and whosoever bows his head before His order, merges in the truth.
ਸਬਦਸੁਰਤਿਲਿਵਅਲਖੁਲਖਾਇਆ।੧।
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ) ਸਬਦ ਦੀ ਗ੍ਯਾਤ ਦੀ (ਲਿਵ=) ਸਮਾਧੀ ਅਲਖ ਨੂੰ ਲਖਾ ਦਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ ਸਵੈ ਸਰੂਪ ਦੀ ਲੱਖਤਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ)।
The consciousness attuned to the Word makes man competent to behold the invisible Lord.
ਪਉੜੀ੨
ਸਿਵਸਕਤੀਨੋਸਾਧਿਕੈਚੰਦੁਸੂਰਜੁਦਿਹੁਂਰਾਤਿਸਧਾਏ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਸਤੋ ਤਮੋਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਧ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਚੰਦ ਸੂਰਜ, ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਸਾਧ ਲੀਤੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ ਓਹ ਸਭ ਪਰ ਬਲੀ ਹਨ)।
Conquering Siva and S'akti (the rajas and tamas qualities), the gurmukhs have disciplined the moon-sun (ira, pingala) and also the time known by days and nights.
ਸੁਖਦੁਖਸਾਧੇਹਰਖਸੋਗਨਰਕਸੁਰਗਪੁੰਨਪਾਪਲੰਘਾਏ।
ਦੁਖ ਸੁਖ ਜਿੱਤ ਲੀਤੇ, ਹਰਖ ਸੋਗ, ਨਰਕ ਸੁਰਗ, ਪੁੰਨ ਪਾਪ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਲੰਘ ਗਏ ਹਨ।
Subjugating pleasure and pain, joy and suffering, they have gone beyond hell and heaven, sin and virtue.
ਜਨਮਮਰਣਜੀਵਨੁਮੁਕਤਿਭਲਾਬੁਰਾਮਿਤ੍ਰਸਤ੍ਰੁਨਿਵਾਏ।
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਥੋਂ ਜੀਵਣ ਮੁਕਤ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ ਕੁਝ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ) ਸ਼ਤ੍ਰ੍ਰ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ੍ਰ, ਭਲੇ ਬੁਰੇ (ਸਭ) ਨਿਵਾ ਲੀਤੇ ਹਨ।
They have humbled life, death, liberation in life, right and wrong, enemy and friend.
ਰਾਜਜੋਗਜਿਣਿਵਸਿਕਰਿਸਾਧਿਸੰਜੋਗੁਵਿਜੋਗੁਰਹਾਏ।
ਰਾਜ ਅਤੇ ਜੋਗ ਨੂੰ ਜਿੱਤ ਕੇ ਵੱਸ ਕਰ ਲੀਤਾ ਹੈ, ਸਾਧ ਸੰਜੋਗ ਅਰਥਾਤ ਭਲੇ ਸੰਜੋਗ ਤੇ ਵਿਜੋਗ ਥੋਂ ਰਹਿ ਗਏ ਹਨ।
Being victors of raj and yoga (temporality and spirituality), they have disciplined alliance as well as separation.
ਵਸਗਤਿਕੀਤੀਨੀਂਦਭੂਖਆਸਾਮਨਸਾਜਿਣਿਘਰਿਆਏ।
ਨੀਂਦ ਭੁਖ ਸਾਰੀ ਵੱਸ ਕਰ ਲੀਤੀ ਹੈ, ਆਸਾ ਮਨਸਾ ਜਿੱਤਕੇ ਸਵੈ ਸਰੂਪ ਵਿਖੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ।
Conquering sleep, hunger, hope and desire, they have made their abode in their own true nature.
ਉਸਤਤਿਨਿੰਦਾਸਾਧਿਕੈਹਿੰਦੂਮੁਸਲਮਾਣਸਬਾਏ।
ਉਸਤੁਤ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਧਕੇ ਹਿੰਦੂ ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨ ਸਭ ਦੇ ਸਾਂਝੇ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ, (ਭਾਵ ਕਿਸੇ ਨਾਲ ਦਵੈਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ)।
Going beyond praise and slander, they have become beloved of the Hindus as well as Muslims.
ਪੈਰੀਪੈਪਾਖਾਕਸਦਾਏ।੨।
(ਸਭ ਦੀ) ਪੈਰੀਂ ਪੈਕੇ (ਆਪ) ਪੈਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਕ ਸਦਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
They bow before all and consider themselves as dust.
ਪਉੜੀ੩
ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾਬਿਸਨੁਮਹੇਸੁਤ੍ਰੈਲੋਕਵੇਦਗੁਣਗਿਆਨਲੰਘਾਏ।
(ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਲੋਕ) ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾਂ ਬਿਸ਼ਨ ਸ਼ਿਵ ਤਿੰਨ (ਦੇਵਤੇ) ਧਰਮ ਪੁਸਤਕਾਂ, ਗੁਣ ਅਤੇ ਗਿਆਨ ਦੀ (ਤ੍ਰਿਕੁਟੀ) ਥੋਂ ਲੰਘ ਗਏ ਹਨ।
The gurmukhs have gone ahead of the three worlds, three gunas (rajas, sattva and tamas) and Brahma Visnu Mahesa.
ਭੂਤਭਵਿਖਹੁਵਰਤਮਾਨੁਆਦਿਮਧਿਜਿਣਿਅੰਤਿਸਿਧਾਏ।
ਬੀਤ ਗਿਆ ਸਮਾਂ, ਆਉਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਸਮਾਂ, ਹੁਣ ਦਾ ਸਮਾਂ (ਤਿੰਨੇ ਅਤੇ) ਆਦਿ, ਮੱਧ, ਅੰਤ (ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਅਵਸਥਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ) ਜਿੱਤ ਕੇ ਸਿੱਧ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਕਾਲ ਰਹਤ ਤੇ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਰਹਤ ਹੋਕੇ ਯਥਾਰਥ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਗਏ ਹਨ)।
They know the mystery of the beginning, the middle, the end, of past, present and future.
ਮਨਬਚਕਰਮਇਕਤ੍ਰਕਰਿਜੰਮਣਮਰਣਜੀਵਣਜਿਣਿਆਏ।
ਮਨ, ਬਚਨ, ਸਰੀਰ ਇਕੱਤ੍ਰ੍ਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਤਿੰਨੇ ਇਕ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ)। ਜੰਮਣ, ਮਰਨ, ਜੀਉਣ ਜਿੱਤਕੇ (ਤਿੰਨੇ ਦਸ਼ਾ ਲੰਘਕੇ ਯਥਾਰਥ) ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ।
They keep together in one line their mind, speech and action and conquer birth, life and death.
ਆਧਿਬਿਆਧਿਉਪਾਧਿਸਾਧਿਸੁਰਗਮਿਰਤਪਾਤਾਲਨਿਵਾਏ।
ਆਧਿ ਬਿਆਧਿ ਉਪਾਧਿ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਧਕੇ ਸੁਰਗ ਲੋਕ, ਮਾਤ ਲੋਕ, ਪਾਤਾਲ (ਤਿੰਨੇ) ਨਿਵਾ ਦਿਤੇ (ਪਾਰ ਹੋ ਗਏ) ਹਨ।
Subjugating all the maladies, they have humbled this world, heaven and the nether world.
ਉਤਮੁਮਧਮਨੀਚਸਾਧਿਬਾਲਕਜੋਬਨਬਿਰਧਿਜਿਣਾਏ।
ਉਤਮ, ਮੱਧਮ, ਨੀਚ (ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਦਰਜਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ) ਸਾਧਕੇ (ਭਾਵ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਪਕੜ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਨਿਕਲਕੇ) ਬਾਲਕ, ਜੋਬਨ ਬਿਰਧ (ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਉਮਰਾਂ) ਨੂੰ ਜਿੱਤ ਆਏ ਹਨ (ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਅਫਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ, ਇਕ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦੇ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ)।
Winning the top, middle and the lowest positions they have conquered the childhood, youth and the old age.
ਇੜਾਪਿੰਗੁਲਾਸੁਖਮਨਾਤ੍ਰਿਕੁਟੀਲੰਘਿਤ੍ਰਿਬੇਣੀਨ੍ਹਾਏ।
ਝਿੜਾ ਪਿੰਗਲਾ, ਸੁਖਮਨਾ (ਪ੍ਰਣਾਯਾਮ ਦੀਆਂ ਨਾੜੀਆ) ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਕੁਟੀ ਲੰਘ ਕੇ (ਤ੍ਰਿਬੇਣੀ) ਸਹਿਜ ਵਿਚ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
Crossing trikuti, the conjunction of three naris – ira, pingala, susumna in between the eyebrows, they have bathed in the triveni, the pilgrimage centre at the confluence of Ganges, Yamuna and Sarasvati.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਇਕੁਮਨਿਇਕੁਧਿਆਏ।੩।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਇਕ (ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦਾ) ਇਕਾਗ੍ਰ ਮਨ ਧਿਆਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
With concentrated mind, gurmukhs adore only one Lord.
ਪਉੜੀ੪
ਅੰਡਜਜੇਰਜਸਾਧਿਕੈਸੇਤਜਉਤਭੁਜਖਾਣੀਬਾਣੀ।
ਅੰਡਜ, ਜੇਰਜ, ਸੇਤਜ, ਉਤਭੁਜ (ਚਾਰੇ) ਖਾਣੀਆਂ, (ਪਰਾ, ਪਸੰਤੀ, ਮੱਧਮਾਂ, ਬੈਖਰੀ ਚਾਰੇ) ਬਾਣੀਆਂ ਸਾਧ ਲੀਤੀਆਂ ਹਨ। (ਭਾਵ ਚਹੁਂ ਖਾਣੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਆਵਾਗਵਣ ਤੋਂ ਲੰਘਕੇ ਤੇ ਚਹੁੰ ਬਾਣੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਤ ਸਹਿਜ ਵਿਚ ਆਏ)।
The gurmukhs subdue the four life-mines (egg, foetus, sweat, vegetation) and the four speeches (para, posyanti, madhyama, vaikhari~.
ਚਾਰੇਕੁੰਡਾਂਚਾਰਿਜੁਗਚਾਰਿਵਰਨਿਚਾਰਿਵੇਦੁਵਖਾਣੀ।
ਚਾਰੇ ਕੂੰਟਾਂ (ਦਿਸ਼ਾ) ਚਾਰੇ ਜੁਗ, ਚਾਰੇ ਵਰਣ, ਚਾਰੇ ਵੇਦ ਕਹੀਦੇ ਹਨ (ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਹੋਏ)।
Four are directions, four the yugas (ages), four varnas and four are the Vedas.
ਧਰਮੁਅਰਥੁਕਾਮੁਮੋਖੁਜਿਣਿਰਜਤਮਸਤਗੁਣਤੁਰੀਆਰਾਣੀ।
ਧਰਮ, ਅਰਥ, ਕਾਮ, ਮੁਕਤੀ (ਚਾਰ ਪਦਾਰਥ) ਜਿੱਤ ਲੀਤੇ, ਰਜ, ਤਮ, ਸਤ (ਤਿੰਨੇ) ਗੁਣ (ਅਤੇ) ਤੁਰੀਆ ਰਾਣੀ (ਭੀ ਜਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ)।
Conquering dharma, artha, kama, moksa and crossing three stagges of rajas, sattva and tamas they enter into the fourth stage turiya, the stage of supreme bliss.
ਸਨਕਾਦਿਕਆਸ੍ਰਮਉਲੰਘਿਚਾਰਿਵੀਰਵਸਗਤਿਕਰਿਆਣੀ।
ਸਨਕ, ਸਨੰਦਨ, ਸਨਾਤਨ, ਸਨਤ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਤੇ ਚਾਰ ਆਸ਼੍ਰਮ ਨੂੰ ਲੰਘ ਗਏ ਹਨ, ਅਤੇ ਚਾਰ ਵੀਰ (ਹਨਵੰਤ, ਨਰਸਿੰਘ, ਭੈਰੋਂ ਬੀਰ, ਲੰਕੁੜਾ ਬੀਰ ਅਥਵਾ ਚਾਰ ਭਿਰਾਉ ਰਾਮ, ਲਛਮਨ, ਭਰਮ, ਸ਼ਤ੍ਰਘਨ ਨੂੰ) ਵੱਸ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।
They control Sanak, Sanandan Sanatan, Sanatkumar, the four ashramas and the four warriors (in the field of charity, dharma, compassion and warfare).
ਚਉਪੜਿਜਿਉਚਉਸਾਰਮਾਰਿਜੋੜਾਹੋਇਨਕੋਇਰਞਾਣੀ।
ਚੌਪੜ ਦੀ ਬਾਜੀ ਵਾਂਗ ਚਾਰੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਜਿੱਤਕੇ ਜੋੜਾ ਹੋਦ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਾਣਦਾ (ਭਾਵ ਜੋੜਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਫੇਰ ਮਰਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਯੋਗੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਣ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪ ਅਜਿੱਤ ਹਨ)।
As in chaupar (a game like blackgamman played with an oblong dice) one is victorious by winning all the four sides, and a twosome is not killed,
ਰੰਗਬਿਰੰਗਤੰਬੋਲਰਸਬਹੁਰੰਗੀਇਕੁਰੰਗੁਨੀਸਾਣੀ।
ਤੰਬੋਲ ਦੇ ਬਾਹਲੇ ਰੰਗ ਹਨ, ਜਦ ਉਹ ਰਸ (ਅਰਥਾਤ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ) ਰੂਪ ਹੋਏ ਤਦ ਬਹੁਰੰਗੀ ਥੋਂ ਇਕ ਰੰਗ ਦੀ ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨੀ ਹੋ ਗਈ; (ਗਲ ਕੀ ਕੱਥ, ਚੂਨਾ, ਸੁਪਾਰੀ ਤੇ ਪਾਨ ਦਾ ਇਕ ਲਾਲ ਰੰਗ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ, ਚਾਰ ਜਾਤ ਮਿਲਕੇ ਇਕ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਰੂਪ ਹੀ ਹੋ ਗਏ)।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਨਿਰਬਾਣੀ।੪।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਸਦਾ) ਨਿਰਬਾਣ (ਪਦ ਵਿਚ ਹਨ)।
So the gurmukh also makes pair with the One Lord and becomes undefeatable.
ਪਉੜੀ੫
ਪਉਣੁਪਾਣੀਬੈਸੰਤਰੋਧਰਤਿਅਕਾਸੁਉਲੰਘਿਪਇਆਣਾ।
ਜਲ, ਵਾਯੂ, ਅਗਨੀ, ਪ੍ਰਿਥਵੀ, ਅਕਾਸ਼ ਨੂੰ ਲੰਘਕੇ (ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਅੱਗੇ) ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਤੱਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਅਰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਜ ਪੰਜਾਂ ਵਿਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਿੱਤ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ)।
Gurmukh goes beyond air, water, fire, earth and sky.
ਕਾਮੁਕ੍ਰੋਧੁਵਿਰੋਧੁਲੰਘਿਲੋਭੁਮੋਹੁਅਹੰਕਾਰੁਵਿਹਾਣਾ।
ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਦੇ ਵੈਰ ਵਿਰੋਧ ਤੋਂ ਲੰਘ ਗਏ ਹਨ, ਲੋਭ ਮੋਹ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਭੀ ਨਾਸ਼ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
Resisting lust and anger he crosses the greed, infatuation and ego.
ਸਤਿਸੰਤੋਖਦਇਆਧਰਮੁਅਰਥੁਸੁਗਰੰਥੁਪੰਚਪਰਵਾਣਾ।
ਸਤਿ, ਸੰਤੋਖ, ਦਯਾ, ਧਰਮ ਅਰ ਧੀਰਜ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਪੰਜਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਅਰਥ ਸਮਝਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਮਾਂਣਿਕ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ।
He espouses truth, contentment, compassion, dharma and fortitude.
ਖੇਚਰਭੂਚਰਚਾਚਰੀਉਨਮਨਲੰਘਿਅਗੋਚਰਬਾਣਾ।

Eight watches, eight limbed yoga, chaval (rice), ratti, rais, masa (all old Indian measuring units of time and weight) have among themselves the relationship of eight i.e. eight rais = one chaval, eight chavals = one ratti and eight rattis = one masa.

ਕਠੋਰ ਮਨ (ਯਾ ਚਰਖੇ ਸਰੀਖੀ ਦੇਹ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਦੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਸ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਅੱਠਾਂ ਧਾਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਇਕ ਧਾਤ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ)। (ਮਨ ਭੀ ਅੱਠਾਂ ਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਹਾ ਕਿ ੫ ਭੂਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਤੋ ਅੰਸ਼ ਤੇ ੩ ਰਜੋ ਤਮੋ ਸਤੋ ਮਿਲਕੇ ਅੱਠਾਂ ਧਾਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਹੈ, ਐਸੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਇਕ ਧਾਤ ਕੀਤਾ, ਭਾਵ ਇਕ ਲਿਵ ਵਿਚ ਲਗਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ)।
Controlling the mind comprising eight inclinations, the gurmukh has made it homogenous as the eight metals after mixing become one metal.

ਨਥਿਚਲਾਏਨਵੈਨਾਥਿਨਾਥਾਨਾਥੁਅਨਾਥਸਹਾਈ।
(ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਨੇ) ਨੌਂ ਨਾਥ (ਗੋਰਖ, ਝੰਗਰ, ਭੰਗਰ ਆਦਿਕ) ਨੱਥਕੇ (ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ) ਤੋਰੇ ਹਨ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਅਨਾਥ ਨਿਮਾਣੇ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ) ਤੇ ਅਨਾਥਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਹਾਈ ਨਾਥਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਾਥ (ਆਪ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ) ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Though, the gurmukh subdues the nine naths (ascetic yogis) yet he considers himself as without any father i.e. most humble, and God as the father of the fatherless ones.
ਨਉਨਿਧਾਨਫੁਰਮਾਨਵਿਚਿਪਰਮਨਿਧਾਨਗਿਆਨਗੁਰਭਾਈ।
ਨੌਂ ਨਿਧਾਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਤਾਬੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰਮ ਨਿਧਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ (ਅਪਰੋਖ) ਗਿਆਨ ੳਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਗ ਸੰਗ ਹੈ।
Nine treasures are in his command and the great ocean of knowledge goes with him like his brother.
ਨਉਭਗਤੀਨਉਭਗਤਿਕਰਿਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਪ੍ਰੇਮਭਗਤਿਲਿਵਲਾਈ।
ਨੌਧਾ ਭਗਤੀ (ਸ਼੍ਰਵਣ, ਕੀਰਤਨ ਆਦਿਕ ਤਾਂ) ਨੌਂ ਭਗਤ ਵੱਖੋ ਵਖ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਪਰੰਤੂ) ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦਸਵੀਂ ਪ੍ਰੇਮਾ ਭਗਤੀ ਵਿਖੇ ਸਮਾਧੀ ਲਾ ਛੱਡੀ ਹੈ।
Neo devotees practise nine types of ritualistic devotion but gurmukh remains immersed in the loving devotion.
ਨਉਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਾਧਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਤਵਿਚਿਪੂਰੇਸਤਿਗੁਰਦੀਵਡਿਆਈ।
ਨੌਂ ਗ੍ਰੈਹ (ਅਥਵਾ ੯ ਗੋਲਕਾਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ, ਕੰਨ, ਨੱਕ, ਮੂੰਹ ਆਦਿ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਤ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਵੱਸ ਕਰ ਲੀਤੀਆਂ ਹਨ (ਇਹ) ਪੂਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ (ਗੁਰ ਅਰਜਨ ਦੇਵ ਦੀ) ਮਹਿਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪ ਹੈ।
With the blessings of the Guru and living the household life, he controls all the nine planets.
ਨਉਖੰਡਸਾਧਅਖੰਡਹੋਇਨਉਦੁਆਰਿਲੰਘਿਨਿਜਘਰਿਜਾਈ।
ਨਉਂ ਖੰਡਾਂ (ਧਰਤੀ) ਨੂੰ ਜਿੱਤਕੇ (ਮਨਿ ਜੀਤੈ ਜਗੁ ਜੀਤ) ਆਪ ਅਖੰਡ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਨੌਂ ਗੋਲਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਲੰਘਕੇ ਦਸਮ ਦ੍ਵਾਰ ਵਿਖੇ ਸ੍ਵੈ ਸਰੂਪ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
Even conquering the nine divisions of earth, he never gets broken up and, going above the illusions of nine doors of body, hecomes to reside in his own self.

From nine numbers have been counted infinite numbers, and controlling the nine pleasures (ras) in the body, gurmukh stays in the equipoise.

Only gurmukhs receive the unattainable fruit of the supreme delight.

ਸੰਨਿਆਸੀਦਸਨਾਵਧਰਿਸਚਨਾਵਵਿਣੁਨਾਵਗਣਾਇਆ।
ਸੰਨਿਆਸੀਆਂ ਨੇ (ਗਿਰੀ, ਪੁਰੀ, ਭਾਰਤੀ, ਸੁਰੱਸ੍ਵਤੀ ਆਦਿ।) ਦਸ ਨਾਉਂ ਰਖਾਕੇ ਸਖੇ ਨਾਮ ਥੋਂ ਬਾਝ (ਬਿਰਥਾ ਹੀ ਆਪਣਾ) ਨਾਮ ਗਿਣਾਇਆ (ਹੰਕਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ)।
Sannyasis, giving ten nomenclatures to their sects, but in fact being devoid of the true Name have (egotistically) got their own names counted.

ਤੀਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੁਰਬ (ਅਰਥਾਤ ਮਹਾਤਮ) ਦੇ ਸੰਜੋਗ ਵਿਚ ਦਸ ਪੁਰੁਬਾਂ (ਵਿਸਾਖੀ ੧, ਮਾਘੀ ੨, ਦਿਵਾਲੀ ੩, ਦੁਸਹਿਰਾ ੪, ਟੁਕੜੀ ੫, ਨਿਮਾਣੀ ੬, ਦੁਆਦਸੀ ੭, ਵਿਤੀਪਾਤ ੮, ਵੈਧ੍ਰਿਤ ੯, ਜਨਮਅਸ਼ਟਮੀ ੧੦) ਨੇ ਗੁਰਪੁਰਬ ਦੀ ਬਰਾਬਰੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤੀ, (ਭਾਵ ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਇਹ ਸੰਸਾਰਕ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਦੇਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਗੁਰਪੁਰਬ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਵਲ ਲ
Celebrations of the ten auspicious days (no-moon, full moon days etc.) at pilgrimage centres could not know the real importance of Gurpurb, the anniversaries of the Gurus.

Gurmukh, controlling the ten organs stops the mind racing in ten directions.

ਪੈਰੀ ਪੈਕੇ ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ ਨਿਵਾ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਨਿੰਮ੍ਰਤਾ ਨਾਲ ਕਾਰਜ ਰਾਸ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ)।
He humbly bows at the Guru's feet and the whole world falls at his feet.

ਇਕਮਨਿਹੋਇਇਕਾਦਸੀਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਵਰਤੁਪਤਿਬ੍ਰਤਿਭਾਇਆ।
ਮਨ ਇਕਾਗਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਤਿਬ੍ਰਤ ਧਰਮ ਨਿਸ਼ਚਯ ਜੋ ਭਾਇਆ ਹੈ ਈਹੋ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਇਕਾਦਸ਼ੀ ਬ੍ਰਤ ਹੈ। (ਭਾਵ ਯਥਾ ਕਬਿੱਤ ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰਦਾਸ-'ਗੁਰ ਸਿੱਖ ਸੰਗਤ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਕੋ ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪ ਐਸੋ ਪਤਿਬ੍ਰਤ ਏਕ ਟੇਕ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਨਿਵਾਰੀ ਹੈ')।
Like a faithful wife, gurmukh likes the fast of ekadasi in the form of concentration of mind (Hindus generally observe fast on the eleventh day of lunar month).

ਗਿਆਰਹਕਸਗਿਆਰਹਕਸੇਕਸਿਕਸਵੱਟੀਕਸਕਸਾਇਆ।
(ਦਸ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ੍ਰੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਯਾਰ੍ਹਵਾਂ ਮਨ) ਗ੍ਯਾਰਾਂ ਹੀ ਕਸ ਲੀਤੇ ਅਰ ੧੧ ਹੀ (ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ਕਾਬੂ ਕੀਤੇ, (ਭਗਤੀ ਦੀ) ਕਸਵੱਟੀ ਪੁਰ ਕਸ ਲਾਕੇ ਮਨ ਕੰਚਨ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ੁੱਧ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।
The gurmukh has controlled all the eleven (ten organs and the mind). Their eleven objects also he has controlled and he has purified the mind-gold by rubbing it on the touchstone of devotion.
ਗਿਆਰਹਗੁਣਫੈਲਾਉਕਰਿਕਚਪਕਾਈਅਘੜਘੜਾਇਆ।
ਯਾਰਾਂ ਗੁਣੇ ਫੈਲਾਕੇ ਕੱਚੇ ਅਘੜ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਘੜ ਘੜ ਕੇ ਪੱਕਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ। (ਭਾਵ ਯਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਦ ਗਿਣੀਏਂ ਇਕ ਇਕ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਅੰਗ ਵਧਦੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਯਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਦੋ ਏਕੇ ਤੇ ਯਾਰਾਂ ਦੂਣੇ ਬਾਈ ਦੇ ਦਸ ਦੂਏ, ਇੱਕਰ ਯਾਰਾਂ ਤੀਆ ਤੇਤੀ ੩੩ ਦੇ ਦੋ ਤੀਏ, ਯਾਰਾਂ ਚੌਕਾ ੪੪ ਦੇ ਦੋ ਚੌਕੇ, ਯਾਰਾਂ ਨਾਉਂ ੯੯ ਦੇ ਦੋ ਨਾਏਂ,
Cultivating eleven virtues he has chiselled and stabilized the tardy mind.
ਗਿਆਰਹਦਾਉਚੜ੍ਹਾਉਕਰਿਦੂਜਾਭਾਉਕੁਦਾਉਰਹਾਇਆ।
ਯਾਰਾਂ ਦਾ (ਅਰਥਾਤ ਸਤਿ ੧, ਸੰਤੋਖ ੨, ਦਯਾ ੩, ਧਰਮ ੪, ਧੀਰਜ ੫, ਸਮ ੬, ਦਮ ੭, ਉਪਰਤਿ ੮, ਤਤਿਖ੍ਯਾ ੯, ਸ਼ਰਧਾ ੧੦, ਸਮਾਧਾਨਤਾ ੧੧) ਨਾਲ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਪੱਕਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਉ ਜੋ ਖੋਟਾ ਦਾਉ ਸੀ ਤਿਆਗ ਦਿਤਾ ਹੈ।
Assuming eleven virtues (truth, contentment, compassion, dharma, control, devotion etc.) he has erased duality and dubiousness.
ਗਿਆਰਹਗੇੜਾਸਿਖੁਸੁਣਿਗੁਰਸਿਖੁਲੈਗੁਰਸਿਖੁਸਦਾਇਆ।
ਗ੍ਯਾਰਾਂ ਵੇਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਗੁਰਮੰਤ੍ਰ੍ਰ ਸੁਣਕੇ ਗੁਰ ਸਿੱਖ੍ਯਾ ਲੈਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸਿੱਖ ਸਦਵਾਇਆ। (ਅ) ਯਾਰਾਂ (ਅਰਥਾਤ ੧੦ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ੍ਰੇ ਤੇ ਇਕ ਮਨ) ਨੂੰ ਗੇੜਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖ੍ਯਾ ਸ਼੍ਰਵਣ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਫੇਰ ਮੰਨਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਗੁਰ ਸਿੱਖ ਸਦਵਾਇਆ ਹੈ, (ਭਾਵ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਮਨੋਂ ਤਨੋਂ ਹੋਕੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਭਾਵ ਗ੍ਯਾਰਾਂ ਗੁਣੇ ਦਾ ਵਾਧੇ
Listening to the mantra eleven times, the gurmukh adopting the teaching of the Guru, is called Gursikh.

ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਖੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ ਵਸਾਇਆ ਹੈ, ਭਾਵ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਨਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
In the holy congregation only the Word-Guru resides in one's heart.

ਬਾਰਹਪੰਥਸਧਾਇਕੈਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਗਾਡੀਰਾਹਚਲਾਇਆ।
(ਜੋਗੀਆਂ ਦੇ) ਬਾਰਾਂ ਪੰਥ ਜਿੱਤਕੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਸੌਖਾ ਰਾਹ ਤੋਰਿਆ ਹੈ।
Winning over the twelve sects of yogis, the gurmukhs started a simple and straight way (for liberation).
ਸੂਰਜਬਾਰਹਮਾਹਵਿਚਿਸਸੀਅਰੁਇਕਤੁਮਾਹਿਫਿਰਾਇਆ।
ਸੂਰਜ ਬਾਰਾਂ ਮਹੀਨਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ (ਧਰਤੀ ਦੇ ਗਿਰਦ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ), ਚੰਦ੍ਰ੍ਰਮਾਂ (ਇਕ ਮਹੀਨੇ ਵਿਚ) ਪ੍ਰਕ੍ਰਮਾਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਸੂਰਜ ਤੋਂ ਭਾਵ ਤਮੋ ਰਜੋ ਗੁਣ ਹੈ, ਤਮੋ ਰਜੋ ਗੁਣੀ ਸਾਧਨਾਂ ੧੨ ਮਹੀਨੇ ਵਿਚ ਜੋ ਕਾਰਜ ਕਰੇ, ਸਤੋ ੧ ਵਿਚ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਚੰਦ੍ਰ੍ਰਮਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਭਾਵ ਸਤੋ ਗੁਣ ਹੈ)।
It looks as if the sun circumambulates earth in twelve months and the moon in one month but the fact is that the work completed by the person having tamas and rajas qualities in twelve months is done in one month by the person having sattva quality.

ਬਾਰਾਂ (੧੦ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ੍ਰੇ, ਮਨ, ਬੁਧਿ) (ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ੧੦, ਤਤ ੫, ਤੇ ੧ ਮਨ-) ਸੋਲਾਂ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਚੰਦ੍ਰ੍ਰਮਾਂ ਸੂਰਜ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਵਿਖੇ ਸਮਾਇਆ। (ਭਾਵ ਦਿਨ ਚੜ੍ਹ ਗਿਆ, ਯਥਾ-”ਗਿਆਨ ਅੰਜਨੁ ਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਅਗਿਆਨ ਅੰਧੇਰ ਬਿਨਾਸੁ”।
Combining twelve (months) and sixteen (phases of moon) the sun merges into the moon i.e. rajas and tamas get absobed into the sattva.
ਬਾਰਹਤਿਲਕਮਿਟਾਇਕੈਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਤਿਲਕੁਨੀਸਾਣੁਚੜਾਇਆ।
(ਜੋਗੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਬਾਰਾਂ ਪੰਥਾਂ ਦੇ) ਬਾਰਾਂ ਹੀ ਤਿਲਕ ਮਿਟਾਕੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਨੀਸਾਣ (=ਚਿੰਨ੍ਹ ਅਥਵਾ ਉੱਜਲਤਾ) ਦਾ ਤਿਲਕ ਚੜ੍ਹਾਇਆ ਹੈ।

ਬਾਰਾਂ ਰਾਸਾਂ (ਮੇਖ, ਬ੍ਰਿਖ, ਮਿਥਨ ਆਦਿ) ਜਿੱਤਕੇ ਸੱਚੀ ਰਾਸ (ਹਰ ਧਨ) ਦੀ ਰਾਹ ਰਸਮ ਕੀਤੀ (ਅਥਵਾ ਰਹਿਰਾਸ ਦੀ ਸੱਚੀ ਰਾਸ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੋਏ)।

Becoming pure gold of twelve masas (twenty four carrots) they come true to their worth in the world market.

(ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਰੂਪ) ਪਾਰਸ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਸ ਕੇ ਆਪ ਭੀ ਪਾਰਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
Touching the philosopher's stone in the form of Guru, the gunnukhs also become philosopher's stone.

ਤੇਰਹਤਾਲਅਊਰਿਆਗੁਰਮੁਖਸੁਖਤਪੁਤਾਲਪੁਰਾਇਆ।
(ਰਾਗ ਦੇ) ੧੩ ਤਾਲ ਘੱਟ ਹਨ, ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਸੁਖ ਰੂਪ ਤਪ ਦਾ ਤਾਲ ਪੂਰਿਆ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ ਪ੍ਰੇਮਾ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਥ ਵਿਖੇ ਹੀ ਯੋਗੀ ਹਨ)।
Thirteen beats of music are incomplete but gurmukh with his accomplishment of the rythm (of household life) attains delight.
ਤੇਰਹਰਤਨਅਕਾਰਥੇਗੁਰਉਪਦੇਸੁਰਤਨੁਧਨੁਪਾਇਆ।
ਤੇਰਾਂ ਰਤਨ ਬਿਅਰਥ ਹਨ, ਗੁਰ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਰਤਨ (ਇੱਕੋ ਹੀ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕੋਲ ਹੈ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਾਮ) ਧਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਹੈ।
Thirteen jewels are also futile for the Gurmukh who gets the jewel of teaching of the Guru.

ਜੱਗ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਤਰ ਕਰਮ (ਆਦੀ) ਤੇਰਾਂ ਪਦ (ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ) ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਸੰਸਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਕਰਮ ਕਾਂਡੀਆਂ ਨੇ) ਭਰਮਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਭੁਲਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
The ritualistic people have overawed the people in their thirteen types of rituals.
ਲਖਲਖਜਗਨਪੁਜਨੀਗੁਰਸਿਖਚਰਣੋਦਕਪੀਆਇਆ।
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਜਲ ਪਾਨ ਕਰਨ ਨਾਲ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਜੱਗ੍ਯ ਬਰਾਬਰੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ। (ਪ੍ਰਮਾਣ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਸੁਖਮਨੀ-'ਚਰਨ ਸਾਧਕੇ ਧੋਇ ਧੋਇ ਪੀਉ'॥)
Myriad burnt offerings (yajna) cannot be equated with nectar of the feet of gurmukh.
ਜਗਭੋਗਨਈਵੇਦਲਖਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਮੁਖਿਇਕੁਦਾਣਾਪਾਇਆ।
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਦੇ ਮੁਖ ਵਿਖੇ ਇਕ ਦਾਣਾ ਪਾਉਣ ਦਾ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਜੱਗਾਂ, ਭੰਡਾਰਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਭੋਗਾਂ ਠਾਕਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਨੈਵੇਦਾਂ (ਨਾਲੋਂ ਵਧੀਕ ਫਲ ਹੈ)।
Even one grain of gurmukh;s is equal to millions of yajnas, offerings and edibles.
ਗੁਰਭਾਈਸੰਤੁਸਟੁਕਰਿਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸੁਖਫਲੁਪਿਰਮੁਚਖਾਇਆ।
ਗੁਰ ਭਾਈ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਲੋਕ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦਾ ਸੁਖ ਫਲ ਚੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ।
And by making their fellow disciples of the Guru content, the Gurmukhs remain happy.

ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ (ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ) ਨੇ ਨਾ ਛਲਿਆ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੋਕੇ ਅਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਛਲਾਇਆ ਹੈ। (ਭਾਵ ਉਹ ਜੋ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਭੀ ਮੋਹਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ, ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕਰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਮੀ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ)।
God is undeceivable but He is dodged by the devotees.

ਚਉਦਹਵਿਦਿਆਸਾਧਿਕੈਗੁਰਮਤਿਅਬਿਗਤਿਅਕਥਕਹਾਣੀ।
ਚੌਦਾਂ ਵਿਦ੍ਯਾ ਜਿੱਤਕੇ (ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਲੋਕ) ਗੁਰਮਤ ਦੀ ਅਕਥ ਕਹਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਪਏ ਹਨ।
Accomplishing the fourteen skills, gurmukhs adopt the indescribable skill of the wisdom of Guru (Gurmat).
ਚਉਦਹਭਵਣਉਲੰਘਿਕੈਨਿਜਘਰਿਵਾਸੁਨੇਹੁਨਿਰਬਾਣੀ।
ਚੌਦਾਂ ਭਵਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤਿਆਗਕੇ (ਗੁਰਮੁਖ) ਅਪਣੇ ਸਰੂਪ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਅਰ ਨਿਰਬਾਣ ਪਦ ਵਿਚ ਖੇਡਦੇ ਹਨ।
Going across the fourteen worlds they reside in their own self and remain immersed in the state of nirvana.
ਪੰਦ੍ਰਹਥਿਤੀਪਖੁਇਕੁਕ੍ਰਿਸਨਸੁਕਲਦੁਇਪਖਨੀਸਾਣੀ।
ਇਕ ਪੱਖ ਵਿਚ ਪੰਦਰਾਂ ਥਿੱਤਾਂ ਹਨ (ਤੇ ਮਹੀਨੇ ਵਿਚ) ਦੋ ਪੱਖ ਹਨ, (ਇਕ) ਸੁਕਲ (ਦੂਜਾ) ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨ।
One fortnight consists of fifteen days; one is the dark (krsna) fortnight and the second is moonlit light (sukla)fortnight.
ਸੋਲਹਸਾਰਸੰਘਾਰੁਕਰਿਜੋੜਾਜੁੜਿਆਨਿਰਭਉਜਾਣੀ।
ਸੋਲਾਂ ਨਰਦਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਕੇ ਜਦ ਜੋੜਾ ਹੋਇਆ (ਤਦ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਦੇ) ਭਉ ਥੋਂ ਰਹੇ। (ਭਾਵ ਈਸ਼੍ਵਰ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲੇ ਤਦ ਚੌਰਾਸੀ ਦੇ ਫੇਰੇ ਥੋਂ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਹੋ ਗਏ)।
Like the game of dice, ousting the sixteen counters and making the pair only, one attains fearlessness.

ਸੋਲਾਂ ਕਲਾਂ ਸੰਪੂਰਣ ਜਦ ਚੰਦ੍ਰ੍ਰਮਾਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਸੂਰਜ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਵਿਖੇ ਜਾਣ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਅਰਥਾਤ ਦਿਨੇ ਚੜ੍ਹਨ ਕਰਕੇ) (ਵਿਰਤੀ ਹਾਣੀ=) ਹਾਣਤਾ ਵਰਤ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ ਫਿੱਕਾ ਪੈ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਭਾਵ ਇਹ ਦੂਜੇ ਘਰ ਵਿਖੇ ਜਾਕੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਤੇਜ ਦੱਸਣ ਨਾਲ ਘਾਟਾ ਹੀ ਘਾਟਾ ਹੈ)।
When moon, the master of sixteen phases (full of sattvic quality) enters into the sun (full of rajas and tamas), it gets faded.
ਨਾਰਿਸੋਲਹਸੀਂਗਾਰਕਰਿਸੇਜਭਤਾਰਪਿਰਮਰਸੁਮਾਣੀ।
(ਜਗ੍ਯਾਸੂ ਰੂਪ) ਇਸਤ੍ਰ੍ਰੀ (ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ) ਸੋਲਾਂ ਸ਼ਿੰਗਾਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਅੰਤਹਕਰਣ ਦੀ) ਸੇਜਾ ਪਰ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਦਾ ਅਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦੀ ਹੈ, (ਭਾਵ ਸ੍ਵੈ ਸਰੂਪ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ)।

ਸ਼ਿਵ ਤੇ ਸ਼ਕਤਿ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਤਾਰਾਂ ਵਾਣੀਆਂ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਅਰਥਾਤ ਮਾਯਾ ਦੀਆਂ ੧੬ ਕਲਾਂ ਹਨ, ੧੦ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ, ੫ ਤਤ, ੧ ਮਨ=੧੬। ਤੇ ਸ਼ਿਵ ਅਰਥਾਤ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਇਕ ਕਲਾ ਜਿਥੇ ਏਕਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਹੈ, ੧੭ ਇਉਂ ਬਾਣੀਆਂ ਸ਼ਿਵ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ)।

Thoroughly understanding the eighteen gotras, sub castes, the gurmukhs go through the eighteen puranas.

Jumping over nineteen, twenty and twenty-one.
ਸੰਖਅਸੰਖਲੁਟਾਇਕੈਤੇਈਚੌਵੀਪੰਜੀਹਪਾਈ।
ਗਿਣਤੀ ਥੋਂ ਅਨਗਿਣਤ ਲੁਟਾਕੇ (ਭਾਵ ਸਭ ਦੀ ਮਮਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਤਿਆਗਕੇ) ਤੇਈ ਚੌਵੀ ਅਤੇ ਪੰਝੀ (ਤੀਕ ਜਿਤਨੀਆਂ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਗਿਣਤੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ) ਪਾ ਲੀਤੀਆਂ ਹਨ। (ਭਾਵ ਤ੍ਰਿਕਾਲ ਗ੍ਯਾਤਾ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹੈਨ।)

In the name of twenty-six, twenty-seven, twenty-eight they meet the Lord.
ਉਲੰਘਿਉਣਤੀਹਤੀਹਸਾਧਿਲੰਘਿਇਕਤੀਹਵਜੀਵਧਾਈ।
ਉਨੱਤੀਆਂ (ਦੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ) ਨੂੰ ਲੰਘਕੇ ਤੀਹਾਂ (ਦਿਨਾਂ ਜਾਂ ਰੋਜ਼ਿਆਂ) ਨੂੰ ਸਾਧਦੇ ਹਨ (ਫੇਰ) ਇਕੱਤੀਹ ਨੂੰ ਲੰਘਕੇ ਵਧਾਈਆਂ ਵਜਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
Crossing twenty-nine, thirty and reaching thirty-one, in their heart they feel blest and delighted.
ਸਾਧਸੁਲਖਣਬਤੀਹੇਤੇਤੀਹਧ੍ਰੂਚਉਫੇਰਿਫਿਰਾਈ।
ਬੱਤੀਹ ਲੱਖਣਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਸੰਤ ਹਨ (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ) ਤੇਤੀ (ਕਰੋੜ ਦੇਵਤੇ) ਧ੍ਰੂ (ਸੰਤ ਦੀ) ਪਰਕ੍ਰਮਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
Accomplishing the thirty-two saintly characteristics, like Dhru they make thirty-three crore gods and goddesses shake and revolve around (them).

(ਇਸੇ ਕਰਕੇ) ਚੌਤੀ (ਸੰਖ੍ਯਾ ਵਿਖੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਹੋਕੇ ਬੀ) ਲੇਖੇ ਥੋਂ ਅਲੇਖ ਹਨ, (ਧ੍ਰੁਵ ਦੇ ਸਮਾਨ ਅਟੱਲ ਹਨ। ਭਾਵ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਲੋਕ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਅਧੀਨ ਹਨ, ਹੋਰ ਸੰਖ੍ਯਾ ਦੇ ਤਾਂ ਇਕਾਈ ਦਹਾਈ ਤੋਂ ਸੰਖ ਤੱਕ ੧੯ ਦਰਜੇ ਹਨ, ਸੰਤ ਚੌਤੀ ਦਰਜਿਆਂ ਥੋਂ ਬੀ ਅਲੇਖ ਹਨ)।
Touching thirty-four they realize the Invisible Lord i.e. the gurmukhs going above all the numbers get exhilerated in the love of Lord who is beyond all the counts.

ਵੇਦਕਤੇਬਹੁਬਾਹਰਾਲੇਖਅਲੇਖਨਲਖਿਆਜਾਈ।
(ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ) ਵੇਦ ਕਤੇਬ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ ਹੈ, ਲੇਖਾ (ਉਸ ਦਾ) ਅਲੇਖ ਹੈ, ਲਖਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ।
God is beyond Vedas and katebas (holy books of Semitic religions) and He cannot be visualized.

ਉਸਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਅਨੂਪਮ (ਉਪਮਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਰਹਤ) ਅਸਚਰਜ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ (ਜਗ੍ਯਾਸੂ ਨੂੰ ਅਰ ਜਗ੍ਯਾਸੂ ਪਰ ਉਸਦੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ) ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਗੋਚਰੀ ਬਾਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
His form is grand and awe-inspiring. He is beyond the reach of body organs.
ਇਕੁਕਵਾਉਪਸਾਉਕਰਿਤੋਲੁਨਤੁਲਾਧਾਰਨਸਮਾਈ।
(ਉਸਨੇ) ਇਕ ਵਾਕ ਥੋਂ (ਇੱਡਾ ਜਗਤ ਦਾ) ਪਸਾਰਾ ਕੀਤਾ, ਜਿਸਦਾ ਤੋਲਣਾ (ਬੁੱਧੀ ਦੀ) ਤੱਕੜੀ ਪੁਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਾਉਂਦਾ(“ਕੀਤਾ ਪਸਾਉ ਏਕੋ ਕਵਾਉ”)
He created this cosmos by His one big bang which cannot be weighed on any scale.
ਕਥਨੀਬਦਨੀਬਾਹਰਾਥਕੈਸਬਦੁਸੁਰਤਿਲਿਵਲਾਈ।
ਕਥਨੀ (ਕਥਾ ਤੇ) ਬਦਨੀ (ਕਵੀਸ਼ਰੀਆਂ) ਥੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ ਹੈ, (ਲੋਕ ਕਥਨੀ ਬਦਨੀ ਕਰ ਕਰਕੇ) ਥੱਕ ਗਏ ਹਨ; (ਇਸੇ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਨੇ) ਸਬਦ ਸੁਰਤ ਵਿਚ ਲਿਵ ਲਾ ਰੱਖੀ ਹੈ, (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ-)
He is indescribable and many a man in order to reach Him has got tired by putting their consciousness into the Word.
ਮਨਬਚਕਰਮਅਗੋਚਰਾਮਤਿਬੁਧਿਸਾਧਿਸੋਝੀਥਕਿਪਾਈ।
ਮਨ ਬਾਣੀ ਕਰਮ ਦੇ ਗੋਚਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਮਤ, ਬੁੱਧੀ, ਸਾਧਨਾ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੋਝੀ (ਥਕ ਪਾਈ=) ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਈ।
Being beyond the ken of mind, speech, and action, the wisdom, intellect and all practices have also left hope of catching hold of Him.
ਅਛਲਅਛੇਦਅਭੇਦਹੈਭਗਤਿਵਛਲੁਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਛਾਈ।
(ਨਾਲੇ ਉਹ) ਅਛਲ ਅਛੇਦ ਅਭੇਦ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਭਗਤ ਵਛਲ ਹੈ, ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ (ਵਿਚ ਉਸਦੀ) ਇਸਥਿਤੀ ਹੈ (ਇਸੇ ਕਰ ਕੇ ੪ ਤੁਕ ਵਿਚ ਕਿਹਾ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗ ਨੇ ਸਭ ਚਤੁਰਾਈਆਂ ਛੱਡਕੇ ਕੇਵਲ ਸਬਦ ਸੁਰਤ ਵਿਚ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ਹੈ)।
Undeceivable, beyond time and non dual, the Lord is kind to devotees and pervades through the holy congregation.

ਆਪ ਭੀ ਵੱਡਾ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਉਸਦੀ) ਸ਼ੋਭਾ ਦਾ ਭੀ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।

ਵਣਵਣਵਿਚਿਵਣਾਸਪਤਿਰਹੈਉਜਾੜਿਅੰਦਰਿਅਵਸਾਰੀ।
ਉਜਾੜ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਵਣਾਂ ਵਣਾਂ (ਅਰਥਾਤ ਬਹੁਤੇ ਦਰਖਤਾਂ) ਵਿਚ ਕਈ ਬੇਮਲੂਮ ਬਨਾਸਪਤੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
The vegetation in the desolate places in the forest remains unknown.
ਚੁਣਿਚੁਣਿਆਂਜਨਿਬੂਟੀਆਪਤਿਸਾਹੀਬਾਗੁਲਾਇਸਵਾਰੀ।
(ਮਾਲੀ ਲੋਕ) ਚੁਣ ਚੁਣਕੇ ਬੂਟੀਆਂ ਲਿਆਉਂਦੇ ਤੇ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਬਗੀਚਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਲਾਕੇ ਸਵਾਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
The gardeners choose and pick up some plants and plant them in the garden of the kings.
ਸਿੰਜਿਸਿੰਜਿਬਿਰਖਵਡੀਰੀਅਨਿਸਾਰਿਸਮ੍ਹਾਲਿਕਰਨਵੀਚਾਰੀ।
ਪਾਣੀ ਦੇ ਦੇਕੇ ਬਿਰਛ ਵੱਡੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਵੀਚਾਰਵਾਨ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ) ਸਾਰ ਸਮ੍ਹਾਲ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
They are grown by irrigation, and the thoughtful persons take care of them.
ਹੋਨਿਸਫਲਰੁਤਿਆਈਐਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਫਲੁਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਰਸੁਭਾਰੀ।
ਜਦ ਰੁਤ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਤਦੋਂ ਫਲਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਹੋਕੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਰਸਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਭਾਰੀ ਫਲ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
In the season they fructify and offer juicy fruits.
ਬਿਰਖਹੁਸਾਉਨਆਵਈਫਲਵਿਚਿਸਾਉਸੁਗੰਧਿਸੰਜਾਰੀ।
ਬਿਰਖ ਤੋਂ ਸ੍ਵਾਦ (ਕੁਝ) ਨਹੀਂ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ (ਪਰੰਤੂ) ਫਲਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸ੍ਵਾਦ ਤੇ ਸੁਗੰਧੀ ਮਿਲੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
There is no taste in the tree but in fruit resides taste as well as flavour.
ਪੂਰਨਬ੍ਰਹਮਜਗਤ੍ਰਵਿਚਿਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੀ।
(ਤਿਵੇਂ) ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਖੇ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪੂਰਣ ਹੈ (ਪਰੰਤੂ) ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੀ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ ਨਿਰਾਕਾਰ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਇੱਥੇ ਹੀ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ। ਜਿੱਕੁਰ ਫਲਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਰਸ ਅਤੇ ਸੁਗੰਧੀ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ ਤਿਵੇਂ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਰੂਪ ਬ੍ਰਿੱਛ ਦੇ ਫਲ ਹਨ, ਜੋ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਸ੍ਵਾਦ ਦੇ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ)।
In the world, the perfect Brahm resides in holy congregation of the gurmukhs.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸੁਖਫਲੁਅਪਰਅਪਾਰੀ।੧੭।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਹੀ ਸੁਖ ਰੂਪ ਫਲ ਅਪਰ ਅਪਾਰ ਹਨ (ਆਤਮ ਸੁਖ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਦਾ ਕਾਰਣ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਹੀ ਹਨ)।
In fact, the gurmukhs themselves are the infinite pleasure-giving fruit in the world.
ਪਉੜੀ੧੮
ਅੰਬਰੁਨਦਰੀਆਂਵਦਾਕੇਵਡੁਵਡਾਕੋਇਨਜਾਣੈ।
ਆਕਾਸ਼ ਨਦਰੀ ਤਾਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਪਰੰਤੂ) ਕਿੱਡਾਕੁ ਵੱਡਾ ਹੈ (ਇਹ) ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ।
The sky is seen but none knows its extent.
ਉਚਾਕੇਵਡੁਆਖੀਐਸੁੰਨਸਰੂਪਨਆਖਿਵਖਾਣੈ।
ਉੱਚਾ ਕਿੱਡਾਕੁ ਕਹੀਏ (ਉਹ ਤਾਂ) ਸੁੰਨ ਸਰੂਪ ਹੈ, (ਨਿਰਾਵੈਵ ਦ੍ਰਬਯ ਹੈ) ਕੌਣ ਕਹਿ ਸਕੇ।☬ਕਾਲੱਤਣ ਜੋ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਇਹ ਕੋਈ ਸ਼ੈ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸ਼ੂੰਨ ਕਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਅਕਾਸ਼ ਪੁਰਾਣਾਂ ਨੇ ਇੱਕ ਤੱਤ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਹੈ, ਅੱਜਕੱਲ ਦੀ ਵਿੱਗ੍ਯਾਨ (ਸਾਇੰਸ) ਨੇ ਵੀ ਅਕਾਸ਼ ਸਾਰੇ ਵ੍ਯਾਪਕ ਪਰਮ ਸੂਖਮ ਵਸਤੂ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਹੈ।
How much high it is in the form of vaccum is not known to anybody.
ਲੈਨਿਉਡਾਰੀਪੰਖਣੂਅਨਲਮਨਲਉਡਿਖਬਰਿਨਆਣੈ।
ਪੰਛੀ ਉਡਾਰੀਆਂ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਅਨਲ ਮਨਲ (ਪੰਛੀ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਸਦਾ ਆਕਾਸ਼ ਪੁਰ ਹੀ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਹੈ) ਉਹ ਬੀ ਉਡ ਦੇ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਖਦਾ।
Birds fly in it and even the anal bird which always remains flying does not know the mystery of sky.
ਓੜਿਕੁਮੂਲਿਨਲਭਈਸਭੇਹੋਇਫਿਰਨਿਹੈਰਾਣੈ।
ਉਸਦਾ ਓੜਕ ਮੂਲੋਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭਦਾ, ਸਾਰੇ ਹੱਕੇ ਬੱਕੇ ਹੋਕੇ ਫਿਰ ਆਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
Mystery of its origin is not known to any body and all are wonder-struck.
ਲਖਅਗਾਸਨਅਪੜਨਿਕੁਦਰਤਿਕਾਦਰੁਨੋਕੁਰਬਾਣੈ।
ਕਰਤਾਰ ਦੀ ਰਚਨਾ ਥੋਂ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਈਏ, (ਉਸਨੂੰ) ਲੱਖਾਂ ਆਕਾਸ਼ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਸਕਦੇ।
I am sacrifice unto His Nature; even millions of skies cannot express His grandeur.
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮਸਤਿਗੁਰਪੁਰਖੁਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਵਾਸਾਨਿਰਬਾਣੈ।
ਉਸ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪੁਰਖ ਦਾ ਇਕ ਰਸ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਸਤਿਸੰਗ ਵਿਖੇ ਹੈ।
That true Lord resides in the holy congregation.
ਮੁਰਦਾਹੋਇਮੁਰੀਦੁਸਿਞਾਣੈ।੧੮।
ਪਰੰਤੂ ਜੋ ਮੁਰੀਦ ਮੁਰਦਾ ਹੋ ਰਹੇ (ਭਾਵ ਨਿਰਹੰਕਾਰ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਅਲਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ) ਲਖੇਗਾ।
Only a devotee who becomes dead from the point of view of ego, can identify him.
ਪਉੜੀ੧੯
ਗੁਰਮੂਰਤਿਪੂਰਨਬ੍ਰਹਮੁਘਟਿਘਟਿਅੰਦਰਿਸੂਰਜੁਸੁਝੈ।
ਗੁਰੂ ਪੂਰਣ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਸਰੂਪ ਹਨ, ਘਟਾਂ ਘਟਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ (ਇੱਕ) ਸੂਰਜ (ਰੂਪ ਹੋਕੇ) ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
Guru is the replica of the perfect Brahm, who like the sun is illuminating all hearts.
ਸੂਰਜਕਵਲੁਪਰੀਤਿਹੈਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਪ੍ਰੇਮਭਗਤਿਕਰਿਬੁਝੈ।
(ਜਿੱਕੁਰ) ਸੂਰਜ ਨਾਲ ਕਮਲ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਹੈ (ਤਿਵੇਂ) ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਪ੍ਰੇਮਾ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸਮਝਦੇ ਹਨ।
As the lotus loves the sun so is the gurmukh who through loving devotion knows the Lord.
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁਗੁਰਸਬਦੁਹੈਨਿਝਰਧਾਰਵਰ੍ਹੈਗੁਣਗੁਝੈ।
ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਭੀ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਹੈ (ਯਥਾ:-'ਬਾਣੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੁਰੂ ਹੈ ਬਾਣੀ ਵਿਚਿ ਬਾਣੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਸਾਰੇ'); ਗੂੜ੍ਹੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਇਕ ਰਸ ਧਾਰ (ਸਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਦੀ) ਵਰਸਦੀ ਹੈ।
Word of the Guru is the perfect Brahm who as a one current of all the qualities flows eternally through one and all.
ਕਿਰਖਿਬਿਰਖੁਹੋਇਸਫਲੁਫਲਿਚੰਨਣਿਵਾਸੁਨਿਵਾਸੁਨਖੁਝੈ।
(ਕਿਰਖੀ) ਖੇਤੀਆਂ ਸਫਲ ਤੇ ਬਿਰਖ ਭੀ ਫਲਦੇ ਹਨ, ਚੰਦਨ ਵਤ ਵਾਸ਼ਨਾਂ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ, (ਦ੍ਵੈਤ ਦਾ) ਖੋਜ ਉਡ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Because of that current, plants and trees grow and give flowers and fruits, and the sandal also becomes fragrant.
ਅਫਲਸਫਲਸਮਦਰਸਹੋਇਮੋਹੁਨਧੋਹੁਨਦੁਬਿਧਾਲੁਝੈ।
ਕੀ ਅਫਲ ਕੀ ਸਫਲ (ਸਾਰੇ) ਸਮਦਰਸੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਮੋਹ ਦੀ ਧੂਹ ਨਹੀਂ (ਪੈਂਦੀ) ਤੇ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਲੂੰਹਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ ਰਾਣਾ ਰੰਕ ਬਰਾਬਰੀ ਹੈ ਕੋਈ ਸ਼ਰਣ ਆਵੇ ਸਮਦਰਸੀ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ)।
Whether some are fruitless or full of fruit, all become equally unbiased. Infatuation and dubiety do not put them to trouble.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸੁਖਫਲੁਪਿਰਮਰਸੁਜੀਵਨਮੁਕਤਿਭਗਤਿਕਰਿਦੁਝੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਦੇ ਸੁਖ ਦਾ ਫਲ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦਾ ਰਸ (ਭਗਤੀ ਦੁਆਰਾ) ਜੀਵਨ ਮੁਕਤ ਹੋਕੇ ਚੋ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਤੇ ਭੁਗਤਦਾ ਹੈ।
Liberation in life and supreme delight, gurmukh gets through devotion.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਮਿਲਿਸਹਜਿਸਮੁਝੈ।੧੯।
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਕੇ ਸਹਜ ਪਦ ਵਿਖੇ (ਸਮੱਝੈ=) ਸਮਾਇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
In the holy congregation the state of equipoise is actually identified and known.
ਪਉੜੀ੨੦
ਸਬਦੁਗੁਰੂਗੁਰੁਜਾਣੀਐਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਹੋਇਸੁਰਤਿਧੁਨਿਚੇਲਾ।
ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸਬਦ ਗੁਰੂ (ਰੂਪ) ਜਾਣੋ, (ਜਿਹੜਾ) ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਹੋਕੇ (ਉਸਦੀ) ਸੁਰਤ (ਵਿਖੇ) ਧੁਨ (ਲਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ) ਚੇਲਾ ਹੈ।
One should accept the word of the Guru as the Guru, and by becoming gurmukh one makes his consciousness the disciple of the Word.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਸਚਖੰਡਵਿਚਿਪ੍ਰੇਮਭਗਤਿਪਰਚੈਹੋਇਮੇਲਾ।
(ਜਦ ਉਹ) ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਰੂਪੀ ਸੱਚੇ ਖੰਡ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਮਾ ਭਗਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਚਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਦਾ ਭਗਵੰਤ ਨਾਲ) ਮੇਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
When one becomes attached to the abode of truth in the form of holy congregation, he through loving devotion meets the Lord.
ਗਿਆਨੁਧਿਆਨੁਸਿਮਰਣੁਜੁਗਤਿਕੂੰਜਕਰਮਹੰਸਵੰਸਨਵੇਲਾ।
ਗਿਆਨ, ਧਿਆਨ ਅਤੇ ਸਿਮਰਣ ਦੀ ਜੁਗਤੀ ਵਿਖੇ ਕੂੰਜ, ਕੱਛੂ ਅਤੇ ਹੰਸਾਂ ਦੀ ਵੰਸ ਨਵੀਨ ਹੈ। (ਭਾਵ ਦੁੱਧ ਤੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਰੂਪ ਤੱਤ ਮਿੱਥ੍ਯਾ ਦੇ ਵਿਵੇਚਨ ਕਰਨ ਵਿਖੇ ਹੰਸਾਂ ਦੀ ਵੰਸ ਪ੍ਰਬੀਨ ਹੈ ਅਰ ਧਿਆਨ ਦੀ ਜੁਗਤੀ ਵਿਖੇ ਕੱਛੂ ਦੀ ਵੰਸ ਪ੍ਰਬੀਨ ਹੈ। ਪੁਨਾ ਸਿਮਰਣ ਦੀ ਜੁਗਤੀ ਵਿਖੇ ਕੂੰਜ ਦੀ ਵੰਸ ਪ੍ਰਬੀਨ ਹੈ, ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਉਸਦੇ ਸ
In the art of knowledge, meditation and rememberance, the Siberian crane, tortoise and swan respectively are adept ones (in gurmukh all these three qualities are found).
ਬਿਰਖਹੁਂਫਲਫਲਤੇਬਿਰਖੁਗੁਰਸਿਖਸਿਖਗੁਰਮੰਤੁਸੁਹੇਲਾ।
(ਜਿੱਕੁਰ) ਬਿਰਛ ਤੋਂ ਫਲ ਤੇ ਫਲ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਰਛ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤਥਾ) ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਸਿੱਖ ਤੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਤੋਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਸੁਹੇਲੇ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ੍ਰ (ਦੁਆਰਾ) ਹੋਇਆ।
As from tree the fruit and from fruit (seed) again the tree is grown i.e. (tree and fruit are the same), so is the simple philosophy that the Guru and the Sikh are the same.
ਵੀਹਾਅੰਦਰਿਵਰਤਮਾਨਹੋਇਇਕੀਹਅਗੋਚਰੁਖੇਲਾ।
ਵੀਹ ਵਿਸਵੇ (ਸੰਸਾਰ) ਵਿਖੇ ਵਰਤਮਾਨ ਸੀ, ਉਸਥੋਂ ਨਿਕਲਕੇ ਇਕ ਈਸ਼੍ਵਰ ਵਿਖੇ ਮਿਲਕੇ ਮਨ ਬਾਣੀ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹੋਕੇ ਖੇਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
Word of the Guru is present in the world but beyond this is the ekankar (ikis) occupied in His invisible game (of creation and destruction).
ਆਦਿਪੁਰਖੁਆਦੇਸੁਕਰਿਆਦਿਪੁਰਖਆਦੇਸਵਹੇਲਾ।
ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖ ਨੂੰ ਆਦੇਸ (ਨਮਸਕਾਰ) ਕਰਕੇ, ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖ ਜੋ (ਅਦੇਸ਼ ਅਰਥਾਤ) ਦੇਸ਼ ਕਾਲ ਵਸਤੂ ਦੇ ਭੇਦ ਤੋਂ ਰਹਿਤ ਹੈ, (ਤਿਸ ਵਿਖੇ ਵਹੇਲਾ=) ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
