ਸਾਗਰੁਅਗਮੁਅਥਾਹੁਮਥਿਚਉਦਹਰਤਨਅਮੋਲਕਢਾਏ।
ਅਗਮ ਅਤੇ ਅਥਾਹ ਸਾਗਰ ਨੂੰ ਰਿੜਕਵਾਕੇ ਚੌਦਹ ਅਮਲੋਕ (ਦੇਵਤੇ ਅਤੇ ਦਾਨਵਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਕਢਵਾਏ।
It is said that after churning the Unfathomable Ocean, fourteen jewels were brought out of it.
ਸਸੀਅਰੁਸਾਰੰਗਧਣਖੁਮਦੁਕਉਸਤਕਲਛਧਨੰਤਰਪਾਏ।
ਚੰਦ੍ਰਮਾ, ਸਾਰੰਗ ਨਾਮਾ ਧਨਖ, ਸ਼ਰਾਬ, ਕੌਸਤਕ ਮਣੀ, ਲੱਛਮੀ, ਧਨੰਤਰ ਨਾਮਾ ਵੈਦ।
These jewels are-moon, sarang bow, wine, kaustub mani, Laksmi, the physician;
ਆਰੰਭਾਕਾਮਧੇਣੁਲੈਪਾਰਿਜਾਤੁਅਸ੍ਵਅਮਿਉਪੀਆਏ।
ਆਰੰਭਾ (ਨਾਮੇ ਅਪੱਛਰਾਂ ਜੋ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਦੀ ਸਭਾ ਵਿਖੇ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰਦੀ ਕਹੀ ਗਈ ਹੈ) ਕਾਮਧੇਨ ਗਊ, ਪਾਰਜਾਤ ਨਾਮੇ ਕਲਪ ਬ੍ਰਿਛ, ਉਚ ਸ੍ਰਵਾ (ਸੂਰਜ) ਦਾ ਘੋੜਾ, ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ (ਜੋ ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੋਹਨੀ ਰੂਪ ਕਰਕੇ) ਪਿਲਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਸੀ;
The Rambha fairy, Kanadhenu, Parijat, Uchchaisrava horse and nectar offered to gods to drink.
ਐਰਾਪਤਿਗਜਸੰਖੁਬਿਖੁਦੇਵਦਾਨਵਮਿਲਿਵੰਡਿਦਿਵਾਏ।
ਹਾਥੀ, (ਗਾਡੀਵ ਨਾਮੇ) ਸ਼ੰਖ, (ਕਾਲਕੂਟ ਨਾਮੇ) ਬਿਖ, ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਅਰ ਦਾਨਵਾਂ ਦੀ (ਸਭਾ ਲਗਵਾ ਮੋਹਨੀ ਰੂਪ ਧਾਰ ਜਥਾ ਜੋਗ ਉਕਤ ਚੌਦਾਂ ਰਤਨਾਂ ਦੀ) ਵੰਡ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ।
Airavat elephant, conch and poison were distributed jointly among the gods and the demons.
ਮਾਣਕਮੋਤੀਹੀਰਿਆਂਬਹੁਮੁਲੇਸਭੁਕੋਵਰੁਸਾਏ।
(ਹੋਰ ਬੀ) ਮਾਣਕ, ਮੋਤੀ, ਹੀਰੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਮੁੱਲ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਨ ਅਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਲੋਕ ਵਰੁਸਾਉਂਦੇ (ਭਾਵ ਲਾਭ ਪਾਉਂਦੇ) ਹਨ।
All were given rubies, pearls and valuable diamonds.
ਸੰਖੁਸਮੁੰਦ੍ਰਹੁਂਸਖਣਾਧਾਹਾਂਦੇਦੇਰੋਇਸੁਣਾਏ।
ਪਰੰਤੂ ਸ਼ੰਖ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿਕੇ ਫੇਰ ਖਾਲੀ ਹੈ, ਇਸੇ ਲਈ ਧਾਹਾਂ ਮਾਰ ਮਾਰ (ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ)।
Out of the ocean, conch came out empty, which tells (even today) weeping and wailing its own story that none should remain hollow and empty.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਗੁਰਸਬਦੁਸੁਣਿਗੁਰਉਪਦੇਸੁਨਰਿਦੈਵਸਾਏ।
(ਤਿਵੇਂ ਜੋ) ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਰੂਪੀ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ) ਵਿਖੇ ਰਹਿਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਹੈ (ਪਰ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ (ਦੀ ਕਮਾਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ, ਉਹਨੂੰ) ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਸਾਉਂਦਾ।
If they do not adopt the discourses and teachings of the Guru heard in the holy congregation.
ਨਿਹਫਲੁਅਹਿਲਾਜਨਮੁਗਵਾਏ।੧।
ਉਹ ਸੁੰਦਰ (ਮਨੁੱਖਾ) ਜਨਮ ਐਵੇਂ ਗੁਆ ਬੈਠਦਾ ਹੈ।
They lose their life uselessly.
ਪਉੜੀ੨
ਨਿਰਮਲੁਨੀਰੁਸੁਹਾਵਣਾਸੁਭਰਸਰਵਰਿਕਵਲਫੁਲੰਦੇ।
ਪਾਣੀ ਸੁਹਣਾ ਅਤੇ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਹੈ ਲਬਾਲਬ ਤਲਾਉ ਵਿਖੇ ਕਮਲ ਪ੍ਰਫੁੱਲਤ ਹਨ।
It is a pond full of pure and fine water wherein the lotuses blossom.
ਰੂਪਅਨੂਪਸਰੂਪਅਤਿਗੰਧਸੁਗੰਧਹੋਇਮਹਕੰਦੇ।
ਰੂਪ (ਅਨੁਪਮ) ਸੁੰਦਰ, ਹੈ, ਸਰੂਪ ਡਾਢਾ ਹੈ, (ਹੋਰਾਂ) ਗੰਧਾਂ (ਨਾਲੋਂ) ਸੁਗੰਧੀ (ਬੀ ਅਤਿ ਸੂਖਮ ਤੇ ਨਿਰਾਲੀ) ਮਹਿਕ ਰਖਦੀ ਹੈ।
Lotuses are of beautiful form and they make the environment fragrant.
ਭਵਰਾਂਵਾਸਾਵੰਝਵਣਿਖੋਜਹਿਏਕੋਖੋਜਿਲਹੰਦੇ।
ਭੌਰੇ ਬੀ ਬਣਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਵਾਸ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਖੋਜਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਇਕ ਕਮਲ ਦਾ ਖੋਜ ਲੱਭ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
Black bees live in bamboo forest but they somehow search and get the lotus.
ਲੋਭਲੁਭਤਿਮਕਰੰਦਰਸਿਦੂਰਿਦਿਸੰਤਰਿਆਇਮਿਲੰਦੇ।
(ਕਮਲ ਦੀ) ਮਕਰੰਦ ਰਸ ਦੇ ਲੋਭ ਵਿਖੇ (ਮਨ) ਲੋਭਾਇਮਾਨ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਲਈ) ਦੂਰ ਦੇਸ਼ਾਂਤ੍ਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਆ ਮਿਲਦੇ ਹਨ।
With the sunrise, they come attracted from far and wide and meet the lotus.
ਸੂਰਜੁਗਗਨਿਉਦੋਤਹੋਇਸਰਵਰਕਵਲਧਿਆਨੁਧਰੰਦੇ।
(ਕਵਲਾਂ ਦਾ ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟਾਂਤ ਸੂਰਜ ਪੁਰ ਘਟਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ) ਸੂਰਜ ਅਕਾਸ਼ ਵਿਖੇ ਉਦੇ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਤਲਾਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਵਲ ਉਸ ਵੱਲ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ ਦੂਰੋਂ ਹੀ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਖਿੜ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ)।
With the sunrise, the lotuses of the pond also turn their faces toward the sun.
ਡਡੂਚਿਕੜਿਵਾਸੁਹੈਕਵਲਸਿਞਾਣਿਨਮਾਣਿਸਕੰਦੇ।
ਡੱਡੂਆਂ ਦਾ (ਕਵਲ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ) ਚਿੱਕੜ ਵਿਚ ਵਾਸਾ ਹੈ, ਕਵਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਾਣਕੇ ਮਾਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੇ।
Frond lives in the nearby mire close to the lotus but not understanding the real delight it cannot enjoy like lotus.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਗੁਰਸਬਦੁਸੁਣਿਗੁਰਉਪਦੇਸਨਰਹਤਰਹੰਦੇ।
(ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟਾਂਤ) ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਖੇ ਗੁਰ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਣਕੇ ਗੁਰ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦੀ ਰਹਿਤ (ਮਿਰਯਾਦਾ) ਨੂੰ ਧਾਰਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ (ਉਹ ਕੌਣ ਡੱਡੂ ਹਨ? ਉੱਤਰ.-)
Those unfortunate persons who listening to the teachings of the Guru in the holy congregation do not adopt them.
ਮਸਤਕਿਭਾਗਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂਦੇਮੰਦੇ।੨।
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਦੇ ਖੋਟੇ ਭਾਗ ਹਨ।
They are most unfortunate in life like the frogs.
ਪਉੜੀ੩
ਤੀਰਥਿਪੁਰਬਿਸੰਜੋਗਲੋਗਚਹੁਕੁੰਡਾਂਦੇਆਇਜੁੜੰਦੇ।
ਤੀਰਥਾਂ ਪੁਰ ਪੁਰਬਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਜੋਗਾਂ ਪੁਰ ਲੋਕ ਚਾਰਕੂੰਟਾਂ ਥੋਂ ਆ ਕੇ ਕੱਠੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
On pilgrimage centres, because of the anniversary festivals, millions of people get together from all the four directions.
ਚਾਰਿਵਰਨਛਿਅਦਰਸਨਾਂਨਾਮੁਦਾਨੁਇਸਨਾਨੁਕਰੰਦੇ।
ਚਾਰ ਵਰਣ ਛੀ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ, ਨਾਮ, ਦਾਨ, ਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
The followers of six philosophies and the four varnas make recitations, charities and take ablutions there.
ਜਪਤਪਸੰਜਮਹੋਮਜਗਵਰਤਨੇਮਕਰਿਵੇਦਸੁਣੰਦੇ।
ਜਪ, ਤਪ, ਸੰਜਮ, ਹੋਮ, ਜੱਗ ਵਰਤ ਅਤੇ ਨਿਯਮ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਵੇਦਾਂ ਦਾ ਪਾਠ ਸੁਣਦੇ ਹਨ।
Performing recitations, offering burnt offerings, fast and undertaking rigorous disciples, they listen to the recitals from the vedas.
ਗਿਆਨਧਿਆਨਸਿਮਰਣਜੁਗਤਿਦੇਵੀਦੇਵਸਥਾਨਪੂਜੰਦੇ।
(ਕੋਈ ਗਿਆਨੀ) ਗਿਆਨ (ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ) (ਧਿਆਨੀ) ਧਿਆਨ (ਵਿਖੇ ਮਸਤ ਹੈ) (ਕੋਈ) ਜੁਗਤ ਨਾਲ (ਮੰਤਰ ਦਾ) ਜਪ (ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ) ਕੋਈ ਦੇਵੀ ਕੋਈ ਦੇਵਤਾਸਥਾਨ ਦੀ ਪੂਜਾ ਵਿਖੇ ਲਗਦਾ ਹੈ।
Meditating, they adopt they techniques of recitations.
ਬਗਾਬਗੇਕਪੜੇਕਰਿਸਮਾਧਿਅਪਰਾਧਿਨਿਵੰਦੇ।
ਬਗਲਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਚਿੱਟੇ ਕਪੜੇ (ਚਿੱਟੇ ਪਰ) ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਅਪਰਾਧ ਕਰਦੇ (ਪਾਪ ਦੀ) ਸਮਾਧੀ ਲਾ ਕੇ ਨਿਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ ਮੱਛੀ ਨੂੰ ਤਾੜ ਲਾ ਕੇ ਤਕਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਦ ਦਾਉ ਦੇਖਦੇ ਹਨ ਤਾਂ ਤਾਬੜ ਤੋੜ ਗੜੱਪ ਕਰ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਅਜਿਹਾ ਹੀ ਅੱਗੇ ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟਾਂਤ ਦੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ)।
Worship of gods and goddesses is performed at their respective abodes - temples.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਗੁਰਸਬਦੁਸੁਣਿਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਪੰਥਨਚਾਲਚਲੰਦੇ।
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਖੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਸੁਣਕੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਦੀ ਚਾਲ ਪੁਰ (ਜੋ) ਨਹੀਂ ਚਲਦੇ।
White-clad persons remain engaged in trance but like a crane as and when they get opportunity they immediately stoop to commit crime.
ਕਪਟਸਨੇਹੀਫਲੁਨਲਹੰਦੇ।੩।
(ਉਹ) ਕਪਟ ਸਨੇਹੀ (ਕੁਛ) ਫਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ।
Listening to the word of the Guru in the holy congregation, the fake lovers who do not adopt it in their life, do not attain any fruit (in their life).
ਪਉੜੀ੪
ਸਾਵਣਿਵਣਹਰੀਆਵਲੇਵੁਠੈਸੁਕੈਅਕੁਜਵਾਹਾ।
ਸਾਵਣ ਦੇ ਵੱਸਣ ਨਾਲ ਬ੍ਰਿੱਛ ਹਰੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਅੱਕ ਅਤੇ ਜਵਾਹਾਂ ਸੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
In the month of Savan, the whole forest becomes green but akk, a wild plant of sandy region ( Calatropis procera) and javah (a prickly plant used in medicine) go dry.
ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿਬਬੀਹੇਸ੍ਵਾਂਤਿਬੂੰਦਸਿਪਅੰਦਰਿਮੋਤੀਉਮਾਹਾ।
ਬੰਬੀਹੇ (ਦੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਵਿਚ ਜੇ) ਸ੍ਵਾਂਤਿ ਨਿੱਛਤ੍ਰ ਦੀ ਬੂੰਦ ਪਵੇ ਤਾਂ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤੀ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ। (ਜੇਕਰ) ਸਿਪ ਵਿਚ ਪਵੇ ਤਾਂ (ਮੋਤੀ ਦਾ ਕੀੜਾ) ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Getting rain drops in the savanti nakstr (a special formation of stars in the sky) the rain bird (Paphia) gets satisfied and if the same drop falls in the mouth of a shell, it is transformed into a pearl.
ਕਦਲੀਵਣਹੁਕਪੂਰਹੋਇਕਲਰਿਕਵਲੁਨਹੋਇਸਮਾਹਾ।
ਕੇਲੇ ਦੇ ਬੂਟੇ ਵਿਖੇ (ਸ੍ਵਾਂਤਿ ਬੂੰਦ) ਪਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਕਪੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਪਰੰਤੂ ਕੱਲਰ ਵਿਖੇ ਕਵਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਰੌਣਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ।
In the banana fields, the same drop becomes camphor but on alkaline earth and lotus hat drop has no impact.
ਬਿਸੀਅਰਮੁਹਿਕਾਲਕੂਟਹੋਇਧਾਤਸੁਪਾਤ੍ਰਕੁਪਾਤ੍ਰਦੁਰਾਹਾ।
(ਜੇਕਰ ਉਹ ਸ੍ਵਾਂਤਿ ਬੂੰਦ) ਸੱਪ ਦੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਪਵੇ ਤਾਂ 'ਕਾਲਕੂਟ' ਵਿਚ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, (ਗੱਲ ਕੀ) (ਸੁਪਾਤ੍ਰ ਕਹੀਏ) ਚੰਗੇ ਭਾਂਡੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਚੰਗੀ ਵਸਤੂ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਜੇਕਰ ਕੁਪਾਤ੍ਰ ਵਿਚ ਪਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਉਲਟੀ ਸ਼ੈ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ (ਹੁਣ ਪੰਜਵੀਂ ਤੁਕ ਤੋਂ ਲੈ ਸੱਤਵੀਂ ਤੀਕ ਸਿਧਾਂਤ ਦੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ)
That drop, if it goes into the mouth of a snake, becomes deadly poison. Therefore, a thing given to a genuine and undeserving person has different effects.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਗੁਰਸਬਦੁਸੁਣਿਸਾਂਤਿਨਆਵੈਉਭੈਸਾਹਾ।
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ (ਸਾਵਣ ਦੇ ਬੱਦਲ ਵਾਂਙੂ ਵਰਸਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪਰੰਤੂ) ਗੁਰੂ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਣਕੇ (ਮਨਮੁਖ ਅੱਕ ਤੇ ਜਵਾਹਾਂ ਵਾਂਙੂ ਸੁਕਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ) ਸ਼ਾਂਤਿ ਨਾ ਹੋਣ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਣ ਉਭੇ ਸਾਹ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
Likewise, those who are engrossed in the worldly delusions do not get peace even though they listen to the word of the Guru in the holy congregation.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸੁਖਫਲੁਪਿਰਮਰਸੁਮਨਮੁਖਬਦਰਾਹੀਬਦਰਾਹਾ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖ (ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕ ਅਰ ਸਿੱਪ ਵਾਂਙੂ ਹਨ) ਸੁਖ ਫਲ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਰਸ ਪਾਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹਨ, ਮਨਮੁਖ ('ਬਦਰਾਹੀ') ਵਿਕਾਰੀ ਹਨ, ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵੱਲ ਹੀ ਦੌੜਦੇ ਹਨ।
The gurmukh attains the pleasure fruit of the love of the Lord, but manmukh, the mind orientated one, goes on following the evil path.
ਮਨਮੁਖਟੋਟਾਗੁਰਮੁਖਲਾਹਾ।੪।
(ਇਸ ਲਈ) ਮਨਮੁਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਘਾਟਾ ਹੈ ਅਰ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਲਾਭ (ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ)।
Manmukh always suffers loss whereas the Gurmukh earns profit.
ਪਉੜੀ੫
ਵਣਵਣਵਿਚਿਵਣਾਸਪਤਿਇਕੋਧਰਤੀਇਕੋਪਾਣੀ।
ਜੰਗਲ ਦੇ ਬੂਟੇ ਬੂਟੇ ਵਿਖੇ ਇਕੋ ਭੋਂ ਤੇ ਇਕੋ ਪਾਣੀ ਹੈ।
In all the forests vegetation is there and at all the places there is the same earth and the same water.
ਰੰਗਬਿਰੰਗੀਫੁਲਫਲਸਾਦਸੁਗੰਧਸਨਬੰਧਵਿਡਾਣੀ।
ਫਲ ਅਤੇ ਫੁੱਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਰੰਗ ਨਾਨਾ ਭਾਂਤ ਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸ੍ਵਾਦ ਅਤੇ ਸੁਗੰਧੀ ਅਸਚਰਜ ਤੋਂ ਅਸਚਰਜ ਹੈ।
This sameness notwithstanding, the fragrance, taste and colour of fruits and flowers are wondrously different.
ਉਚਾਸਿੰਮਲੁਝੰਟੁਲਾਨਿਹਫਲੁਚੀਲੁਚੜ੍ਹੈਅਸਮਾਣੀ।
ਸਿੰਮਲ ਦਾ ਦਰਖਤ ਫੈਲਾਉ ਵਾਲਾ ਤੇ ਉੱਚਾ ਹੈ, ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਚੀਲ੍ਹ ਦਾ ਰੁਖ ਬੀ ਐਵੇਂ ਅਸਮਾਨੀ ਚੜ੍ਹਦਾ (ਭਾਵ ਬਹੁਤ ਉੱਚਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ) ਹੈ, (ਯਥਾ: “ਸਿੰਮਲ ਰੁਖੁ ਸਰਾਇਰਾ ਅਤਿ ਦੀਰਘ ਅਤਿ ਮੁਚੁ॥ ਓਇ ਜਿ ਆਵਹਿ ਆਸ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਹਿ ਨਿਰਾਸੇ ਕਿਤੁ॥ ਫਲ ਫਿਕੇ ਫੁਲ ਬਕਬਕੇ ਕੰਮ ਨ ਆਵਹਿ ਪਤ॥”)

ਖੱਟੇ ਰਸ, ਅਤੇ ਮਿੱਠੇ ਰਸ ਮਿਲਾਕੇ ਛਤੀ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ਦੇ ਭੋਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਰਸੋਈ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।

ਸਭਨਾਂ ਰਾਣੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਉਲਾਦ ਭੀ ਹੈ, ਇਕ ਅੱਧੀ ਕੋਈ (ਰਾਣੀ 'ਸੰਢ') ਬਾਂਝ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ। (ਅਗੇ ਦਾਰਸ਼ਟਾਂਤ ਤਿੰਨ ਤੁਕਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਦੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ)।
All the queens conceive and one or two come out to be barren.
ਦੋਸੁਨਰਾਜੇਰਾਣੀਐਪੂਰਬਲਿਖਤੁਨਮਿਟੈਲਿਖਾਰੀ।
ਰਾਜੇ ਰਾਣੀਆਂ ਦਾ (ਕੁਝ) ਦੂਖਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਪਰ 'ਲਿਖਾਰੀ' ਦੀ ਪੂਰਬਲੀ ਲਿਖਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਟਦੀ।
For this, no king or queen is to be blamed; all this is due to the writ of previous births,
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਗੁਰਸਬਦੁਸੁਣਿਗੁਰੁਉਪਦੇਸੁਨਮਨਿਉਰਧਾਰੀ।
(ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਖੇ ਗੁਰ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਣਕੇ ਜੋ ਗੁਰ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਨੂੰ ਮੰਨਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ, (ਓਹ)
Those who after listening to the word of the Guru and the teachings of the Guru do not adopt it in their mind.
ਕਰਮਹੀਣੁਦੁਰਮਤਿਹਿਤਕਾਰੀ।੧੦।
ਕਰਮ ਹੀਣੇ ਖੋਟੀ ਮਤ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨਮੁਖ (ਧਿਕਾਰ=) ਧਿਕਾਰ ਲਾਇਕ ਹੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
They are of evil intellect and unfortunate.
ਪਉੜੀ੧੧
ਅਸਟਧਾਤੁਇਕਧਾਤੁਹੋਇਸਭਕੋਕੰਚਨੁਆਖਿਵਖਾਣੈ।
(ਪਾਰਸ ਨਾਲ ਛੁਹਕੇ) ਅੱਠਾਂ ਦੀ ਇਕ ਧਾਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਸਾਰੇ (ਲੋਕ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ 'ਕੰਚਨ') ਸੋਨਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਬੁਲਾਂਵਦੇ ਹਨ।
With the touch of philosopher's stone the eight metals become one metal and people call it gold.
ਰੂਪਅਨੂਪਸਰੂਪਹੋਇਮੁਲਿਅਮੁਲੁਪੰਚਪਰਵਾਣੈ।
ਅਨੂਪਮ ਰੂਪ ਵਾਲਾ ਸਰੂਪ ਹੋਕੇ ਮੁੱਲ ਥੋਂ ਅਮੋਲਕ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਰ ਪੰਚ (ਸਰਾਫ ਲੋਕ) ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਮਾਣ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਕਿ ਠੀਕ ਸੋਨਾ ਹੈ)।
That beautiful metal becomes gold and the jewellers also prove it to be gold.
ਪਥਰੁਪਾਰਸਿਪਰਸੀਐਪਾਰਸੁਹੋਇਨਕੁਲਅਭਿਮਾਣੈ।
(ਪਰ) ਪੱਥਰ ਪਾਰਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਸਣ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਪਾਰਸ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣਦਾ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਕੁਲ ਦਾ ਅਭਿਮਾਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਬੀ ਪਾਰਸ ਦੀ ਕੁਲ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਹਾਂ, ਇਹ ਬੀ ਪੱਥਰ ਮੈਂ ਬੀ ਪੱਥਰ ਹਾਂ)।
Stone does not become philosopher's stone even after getting touched by it because the pride of family and hardness remains present in it (in fact the philosopher's stone is also but a stone).
ਪਾਣੀਅੰਦਰਿਸਟੀਐਤੜਭੜਡੁਬੈਭਾਰਭੁਲਾਣੈ।
(ਜਦ) ਉਹ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਖੇ ਸਿੱਟੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਤਾਬੜਤੋੜ ਡੁਬ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਭਿਮਾਨ ਵਿਖੇ ਭੁੱਲਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਭਾਰੀ ਵਸਤੂ ਹਾਂ)।
Thrown in water, the stone full of pride of its weight sinks at once.
ਚਿਤਕਠੋਰਨਭਿਜਈਰਹੈਨਿਕੋਰੁਘੜੈਭੰਨਿਜਾਣੈ।
ਪੱਥਰ ਦਾ) ਚਿਤ ਕਰੜਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਖੇ ਡੁਬਕੇ ਵੀ ਭਿਜਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, (ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਸੁੱਕਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਰ ਘੜੇ ਭੰਨਣ (ਚੰਗੇ) ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
Hard-hearted stone never gets wet and from inside remains as dry as it was earlier. It only learns how to break pitchers.
ਅਗੀਅੰਦਰਿਫੁਟਿਜਾਇਅਹਰਣਿਘਣਅੰਦਰਿਹੈਰਾਣੈ।
ਅੱਗ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਰੱਖੀਏ ਤਾਂ ਫੁੱਟ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਹਿਰਣ ਤੇ ('ਘਣ'=) ਹਥੌੜੇ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਬੀ ਹੈਰਾਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ ਟੋਟੇ ਟੋਟੇ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਅੱਗੇ ਦਾਰਸ਼ਟਾਂਤ ਦੋ ਤੁਕਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਦੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ)।
It cracks when put in fire and becomes brittle when hammered on anvil.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਗੁਰਸਬਦੁਸੁਣਿਗੁਰਉਪਦੇਸਨਅੰਦਰਿਆਣੈ।
(ਮਨਮੁਖ) ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਖੇ ਗੁਰ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਣਦੇ ਤਾਂ ਹਨ, ਪਰੰਤੂ ਗੁਰ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਨੂੰ ਧਾਰਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ।
Such person's also even after listening to the teachings of the Guru in the holy congregation do not keep to their heart the importance of the teachings.
ਕਪਟਸਨੇਹੁਨਹੋਇਧਿਙਾਣੈ।੧੧।
ਕਪਟੀ ਨੂੰ ਜ਼ੋਰਾਵਰੀ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਗ ਸਕਦਾ।
Showing fake affection, none can forcibly prove to be truthful.
ਪਉੜੀ੧੨
ਮਾਣਕਮੋਤੀਮਾਨਸਰਿਨਿਰਮਲੁਨੀਰੁਸਥਾਉਸੁਹੰਦਾ।
(ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਰੂਪ) ਮਾਨਸਰ ਵਿਖੇ ਮਾਣਕ ਮੋਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਪਾਣੀ (ਹੈ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਉਹ ਹੈ, ਉਹ) ਥਾਉਂ (ਬੀ) ਸੋਭ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, (ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਪਾਣੀ, ਮੰਨਣ ਰੂਪ ਮਾਣਕ ਅਰ ਗਿਆਨ ਮੋਤੀ ਹਨ)।
Pure water, rubies and pearls adorn into the Manasarovar (lake).
ਹੰਸੁਵੰਸੁਨਿਹਚਲਮਤੀਸੰਗਤਿਪੰਗਤਿਸਾਥੁਬਣੰਦਾ।
ਹੰਸਾਂ ਦੀ ਵੰਸ ਵਿਚ ਦ੍ਰਿੜ੍ਹ ਮਤ ਵਾਲੇ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਪੰਗਤ ਦਾ ਸਾਥ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
The family of the swans is of steadfast wisdom and they all live in groups and lines.
ਮਾਣਕਮੋਤੀਚੋਗਚੁਗਿਮਾਣੁਮਹਿਤੁਆਨੰਦੁਵਧੰਦਾ।
ਮਾਣਕ ਮੋਤੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਚੋਗਾ ਚੁਗਕੇ ਵਡੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਅਰ ਅਨੰਦ ਨੂੰ ਵਧਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
They enhance their prestige and delight by picking up rubies and pearls.
ਕਾਉਨਿਥਾਉਨਿਨਾਉਹੈਹੰਸਾਵਿਚਿਉਦਾਸੁਹੋਵੰਦਾ।
ਕਾਉਂ ਨਿਥਾਵਾਂ ਤੇ ਨਿਨਾਵਾਂ (ਭੈੜੇ ਨਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ) ਹੰਸਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਨਿਮੋਝੂਣਾ ਹੋਕੇ ਬੈਠਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਆਸਾ, ਇਸ਼ਟ, ਉਪਾਸ਼ਨਾ, ਖਾਨ, ਪਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਪਹਿਰਾਨ ਛੀ ਚੀਜ਼ਾਂ ਹੰਸਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਖਦੀਆਂ, ਇਸ ਲਈ ਉਦਾਸੀਨਤਾ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ)।
The crow there remains nameless, shelterless and dejected,
ਭਖੁਅਭਖੁਅਭਖੁਭਖੁਵਣਵਣਅੰਦਰਿਭਰਮਿਭਵੰਦਾ।
ਭੱਖਨ ਤੋਂ ਜੋ ਅਭੱਖ ਹੈ (ਵਿਸ਼੍ਵਾ) ਉਸ ਭੱਖਨ ਨੂੰ ('ਭੱਖਦਾ'=) ਭੋਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਰ (ਵਣ ਵਣ ਕਹੀਏ) ਇਕ ਕਰੀਰ ਪਰ (ਭਾਵ ਕੁਸੰਗ ਵਿਖੇ ਜਾ) ਬੈਠਦਾ ਹੈ (ਅਥਵਾ) ਭੱਖ ਵਸਤੂ ਨੂੰ ਅੱਭਖ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਅਭੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਭੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਭਾਵ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਉਸਤਤ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਨੂੰ ਕਬੂਲਦੇ ਹਨ)।
The inedible it considers edible and to edible inedible, and goes on wandering from forest to forest.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਗੁਰਸਬਦੁਸੁਣਿਤਨਅੰਦਰਿਮਨੁਥਿਰੁਨਰਹੰਦਾ।
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਖੇ (ਮਨਮੁਖ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਤਾਂ ਹੈ ਪਰੰਤੂ ਉਸਦਾ ਮਨ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਖੇ ਸਥਿਰ ਹੋਕੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਬੈਠਦਾ, (ਭਾਵ-ਵਿਸ਼੍ਯਾਂ ਵੱਲ ਦੌੜਦਾ ਹੈ)।
So long as a person listening to the word of Guru in the holy congregation does not stabilise his body and mind.
ਬਜਰਕਪਾਟਨਖੁਲ੍ਹੈਜੰਦਾ।੧੨।
(ਇਸੇ ਕਾਰਣ) ਵੱਜਰ ਕਪਾਟਾਂ ਦੇ ਜੰਦਰੇ (ਅੰਤਹਕਰਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਨਹੀਂ ਖੁਲ੍ਹਦੇ।
His stony gate (of wisdom) is not unlocked.
ਪਉੜੀ੧੩
ਰੋਗੀਮਾਣਸੁਹੋਇਕੈਫਿਰਦਾਬਾਹਲੇਵੈਦਪੁਛੰਦਾ।
ਮਨੁਖੀ ਰੋਗ ਹੋਕੇ ਬਾਹਲੇ ਵੈਦਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੁੱਛਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ (ਹੱਥ ਦਿਖਾਉਂਦਾ) ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Suffering disease man goes about asking for treatment from many a physician.
ਕਚੈਵੈਦਨਜਾਣਨੀਵੇਦਨਦਾਰੂਰੋਗੀਸੰਦਾ।
(ਕੱਚਾ) ਅਨਪੜ੍ਹ ਹਕੀਮ ਰੋਗੀ ਦੀ ਪੀੜਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਦਾਰੂ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ, (ਭਈ ਮਰਜ਼ ਕੀ ਅਰ ਔਖਧੀ ਕੀ ਹੈ?)
Since the inexperienced physician does not know the problem of the patient as well as the medicine for the same.
ਹੋਰੋਦਾਰੂਰੋਗੁਹੋਰਹੋਇਪਚਾਇੜਦੁਖਸਹੰਦਾ।
ਹੋਰ ਹੀ ਦਾਰੂ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਰ ਮਰਜ਼ ਬੀ ਹੋਰ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਪਚੇੜ ਹੋਕੇ ਦੁਖ ਸਹਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
The suffering person goes suffering more and more.
ਆਵੈਵੈਦੁਸੁਵੈਦੁਘਰਿਦਾਰੂਦਸੈਰੋਗੁਲਹੰਦਾ।
ਜਦ ਕੋਈ ਸ਼ਿਰੋਮਣੀ ਹਕੀਮ ਘਰ ਵਿਖੇ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਦਾਰੂ ਦੱਸਣ ਨਾਲ ਰੋਗ ਹਟ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
If a mature physician is found, he prescribes the right medicine, which removes the malady.
ਸੰਜਮਿਰਹੈਨਖਾਇਪਥੁਖਟਾਮਿਠਾਸਾਉਚਖੰਦਾ।
ਜੇਕਰ (ਮਰੀਜ਼) ਪ੍ਰਹੇਜ਼ਗਾਰੀ ਨਾ ਰਖੇ, ਪੱਥ ਵਸਤੂ ਨਾ ਖਾਵੇ, ਖੱਟਾ ਮਿੱਠਾ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਆਦ ਚੱਖਣ ਲਗ ਜਾਵੇ।
Now, if the patient does not follow the prescribed discipline and goes on to eat everything sweet and sour, the physician is not to be blamed.
ਦੋਸੁਨਦਾਰੂਵੈਦਨੋਵਿਣੁਸੰਜਮਿਨਿਤਰੋਗੁਵਧੰਦਾ।
ਦਾਰੂ ਅਤੇ ਵੈਦ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਕਸੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਪ੍ਰਹੇਜ਼ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਝ ਨਿਤ ਮਰਜ਼ ਵਧਦੀ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ।
For want of temperance the malady of the patient goes on increasing day and night.
ਕਪਟਸਨੇਹੀਹੋਇਕੈਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਵਿਚਿਆਇਬਹੰਦਾ।
ਝੂਠੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮੀ (ਮਨਮੁਖ ਲੋਕ) ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਖੇ ਆ ਬੈਠਦੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ ਦੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਅਸੀਂ ਵਡੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਨਾਲ ਆਏ ਹਾਂ)।
If a cheat even comes to the holy congregation and sits there.
ਦੁਰਮਤਿਦੂਜੈਭਾਇਪਚੰਦਾ।੧੩।
(ਮਨਮੁਖ) ਖੋਟੀ ਮਤ ਵਾਲਾ ਦੂਜੇ ਭਾਉ ਵਿਖੇ ਹੀ ਸੜਦਾ ਹੈ।
He being controlled by wickedness gets perished in his duality.
ਪਉੜੀ੧੪
ਚੋਆਚੰਦਨੁਮੇਦੁਲੈਮੇਲੁਕਪੂਰਕਥੂਰੀਸੰਦਾ।
ਚੋਆ ਚੰਦਨ, ਮੁਸ਼ਕ ਬਿਲਾਈ ਲੈਕੇ ਕਪੂਰ ਅਤੇ ਕਸਤੂਰੀ ਦਾ ਮੇਲ (ਨਾਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ)।
Mixing the sandal oil, fragrance of the musk-cat, camphor, musk etc.
ਸਭਸੁਗੰਧਰਲਾਇਕੈਗੁਰੁਗਾਂਧੀਅਰਗਜਾਕਰੰਦਾ।
ਸਾਰੀਆਂ (ਅੱਠ) ਸੁਗੰਧਾਂ ਰਲਾਕੇ 'ਗੁਰ ਗਾਂਧੀ' (ਗੁਰੂ ਜਾਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਅਤਾਰ) ਅਰਗਜ਼ਾ (ਨਾਮ ਇਕ ਸੁਗੰਧੀ) ਬਣਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
The perfumer prepares the scent.
ਮਜਲਸਆਵੈਸਾਹਿਬਾਂਗੁਣਅੰਦਰਿਹੋਇਗੁਣਮਹਕੰਦਾ।
(ਅਰਗਜਾ ਜਦ) ਵਡਿਆਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਭਾ ਵਿਖੇ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਗੁਣ ਦੀ ਕਦਰ ਹੈ ਉਥੇ) ਗੁਣ ਹੋਕੇ 'ਮਹਿਕਦਾ' ਹੈ।
When using it, some one comes to the assembly of the experts, they all become full of fragrance.
ਗਦਹਾਦੇਹੀਖਉਲੀਐਸਾਰਨਜਾਣੈਨਰਕਭਵੰਦਾ।
(ਉਹੋ ਅਰਗਜਾ) ਖੋਤੇ ਦੀ ਦੇਹੀ ਪਰ ਮਲੀਏ ਉਹ (ਨਰਕ=) ਅਰੂੜੀ ਉਤੇ ਭੌਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਕਦਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ।
If the same fragrance is applied to an ass, it does not understand its importance and goes on wandering at dirty places.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਗੁਰਸਬਦੁਸੁਣਿਭਾਉਭਗਤਿਹਿਰਦੈਨਧਰੰਦਾ।
(ਤਿਵੇਂ) ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਖੇ ਗੁਰੁ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਣਕੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮਾ ਭਗਤੀ ਨੂੰ (ਮਨਮੁਖ) ਧਾਰਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Listening to the words of the Guru, one who does not adopt loving devotion in his heart.
ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾਂਅਖੀਹੋਂਦਈਬੋਲਾਕੰਨਾਂਸੁਣਨਸੁਣੰਦਾ।
ਅੱਖੀਂ ਦੇ ਹੁੰਦਿਆਂ (ਸਤਿਸੰਗ ਦਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਬੀ) ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਅਰ ਕੰਨੀਂ (ਕਥਾ) ਸੁਣਦਿਆਂ ਵੀ (ਨਾ ਮੰਨਣ ਕਰਕੇ) ਬੋਲਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਬਾਹਲੀ ਖਿੱਚ ਕਰੇ ਤਾਂ)
They are blind and deaf though they have eyes and ears.
ਬਧਾਚਟੀਜਾਇਭਰੰਦਾ।੧੪।
ਬੱਧਾ ਚੱਟੀ ਜਾਕੇ ਭਰ ਛਡਦਾ ਹੈ।
In fact, he goes to the holy congregation under some compulsion.
ਪਉੜੀ੧੫
ਧੋਤੇਹੋਵਨਿਉਜਲੇਪਾਟਪਟੰਬਰਖਰੈਅਮੋਲੇ।
ਰੇਸ਼ਮ ਤੇ ਰੇਸ਼ਮ ਦੇ ਕਪੜੇ ਧੋਤਿਆਂ ਉੱਜਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਤੇ) ਖਰੇ ਅਮਲੋਕ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ)।
The invaluable clothes made of silk come out bright when washed.
ਰੰਗਬਿਰੰਗੀਰੰਗੀਅਨਸਭੇਰੰਗਸੁਰੰਗੁਅਡੋਲੇ।
ਨਾਨਾ ਭਾਂਤ ਦੇ (ਲਾਲ ਪੀਲੇ ਆਦਿ) ਰੰਗਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗੀਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਹਣੇ ਰੰਗ (ਅਡੋਲ ਕਹੀਏ) ਪੱਕੇ (ਚੜ੍ਹਦੇ ਹਨ)।
Dye them in any colour they are beautiful in varied colours.
ਸਾਹਿਬਲੈਲੈਪੈਨ੍ਹਦੈਰੂਪਰੰਗਰਸਵੰਸਨਿਕੋਲੇ।
ਅਮੀਰ ਲੋਕ ਮੁੱਲ ਲੈ ਲੈਕੇ (ਪਟੰਬਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਪਹਿਨਕੇ ਰੂਪ, ਰੰਗ ਅਰ ਰਸ, (ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਿਚ, 'ਵੰਸ ਨਿਕੋਲੇ') ਨੇਕ ਕੁਲ ਦੇ (ਭਾਸਦੇ ਹਨ, ਭਾਵ ਪਟੰਬਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਰੂਪ ਰੰਗਾਦਿ ਵਿਖੇ ਨੇਕ ਘਰਾਣੇ ਦੇ ਕਹੀਦੇ ਹਨ)।
The aristocrat admirers of beauty, colour and joy purchase them and wear them.
ਸੋਭਾਵੰਤੁਸੁਹਾਵਣੇਚਜਅਚਾਰਸੀਗਾਰਵਿਚੋਲੇ।

ਕਾਲਾ ਕੰਬਲ (=ਭੂਰਾ) ਧੋਣ ਨਾਲ ਉਜਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਅਰ ਨਾ ਹੀ (ਉਸ ਪਰ ਕੋਈ) ਸ਼ੁੱਧ ਰੰਗ ਹੀ ਚੜ੍ਹਦਾ ਹੈ (ਜਿਹਾ-'ਸਾਕਤ ਕਾਰੀ ਕਾਂਬਰੀ ਧੋਏ ਹੋਇ ਨ ਸੰਤੁ)। '

(ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ) ਸਾਰੇ ਖੇਤ ਵਿੱਚ (ਬੂਆੜ ਤਿਲ) ਨਿਸ਼ਫਲ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਜਿਕੁਰ ਕਮਾਦ ਦੀ ਪੈਲੀ ਵਿਚ ਸਰਕੜਾ। (ਯਥਾ:-”ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰੂ ਨ ਚੇਤਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਮਨਿ ਆਪਣੈ ਸੁਚੇਤ॥ ਛੁਟੇ ਤਿਲ ਬਾੜ ਜਿਉ ਸੁੰੈ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਖੇਤ) “।

ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਗੁਰਸਬਦੁਸੁਣਿਕਪਟਸਨੇਹੁਕਰਨਿਬੇਤਾਲੇ।
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ (ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿਕੇ) ਗੁਰਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਣਕੇ ਬੀ (ਤਾਲ=) ਮੂਰਖ (ਜਾਂ ਮਸਾਨੀ ਭੂਤਨੇ) ਹਨ (ਯਥਾ:-ਬਿਨ ਬੂਝੇ ਪਸੂ ਭਏ ਬਿਤਾਲੇ”। ਤਥਾ:- ਮਨਮੁਖ ਅੰਧੇ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਬੇਤਾਲੇ”॥)।
Even listening to the word of the Guru in the holy congregation those who do not keep any discipline, move around like ghosts.
ਨਿਹਫਲਜਨਮੁਅਕਾਰਥਾਹਲਤਿਪਲਤਿਹੋਵਨਿਮੁਹਕਾਲੇ।
(ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ) ਜਨਮ (ਇਥੇ ਬੀ) ਨਿਹਫਲ (ਅਤੇ ਉਥੇ ਵੀ) ਅਕਾਰਥ ਹੈ, ਲੋਕ ਪ੍ਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਖੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਕਾਲੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ॥

ਜਮਪੁਰਿਜਮਜੰਦਾਰਿਹਵਾਲੇ।੧੬।
ਜਮਪੁਰੀ' ਵਿਖੇ 'ਜਮ ਜੰਦਾਰ ਦੇ ਹਵਾਲੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਯਥਾ:-”ਜਮ ਡੰਡਾ ਗਲਿ ਸੰਗਲੁ ਪੜਿਆ ਭਾਗਿ ਗਏ ਸੇ ਪੰਚ ਜਨਾ”।

ਉਜਲਕੈਹਾਂਚਿਲਕਣਾਥਾਲੀਜੇਵਣਿਜੂਠੀਹੋਵੈ।
ਕੈਂਹਾ ਨਾਮੇਂ ਧਾਤੂ ਵੱਡਾ 'ਉੱਜਲਾ' (ਚਿੱਟਾ) ਅਰ ਚਿਲਕਦਾ ਹੈ, ਰੋਟੀ ਜੇਵਣ ਨਾਲ ਥਾਲੀ ਜੂਠੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
The bronze appears shining and bright. After the food eaten from the bronze-plate, it becomes impure.
ਜੂਠਿਸੁਆਹੂਮਾਂਜੀਐਗੰਗਾਜਲਅੰਦਰਿਲੈਧੋਵੈ।
ਜੂਠ ਸੁਆਹ ਨਾਲ ਮਾਂਜੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਫੇਰ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਕਰਮ ਕਾਂਡੀ ਲੋਕ) ਗੰਗਾ ਜਲ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਬੀ ਧੋਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
Its impurity is cleaned by ashes and then it is washed in the water of Ganges.
ਬਾਹਰੁਸੁਚਾਧੋਤਿਆਂਅੰਦਰਿਕਾਲਖਅੰਤਿਵਿਗੋਵੈ।
ਬਾਹਰੋਂ ਤਾਂ ਧੋਤਾ ਹੋਹਿਆ ਸੁਚਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਪਰੰਤੂ) ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਕਾਲਾ ਤੇ ਅੰਤ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਖਰਾਬ ਹੈ, (ਥਥਾ:- “ਉਜਲੁ ਕੇਹਾ ਚਿਲਕਣਾ ਘੋਟਿਮ ਕਾਲੜੀ ਮਸੁ॥ ਧੋਤਿਆ ਜੂਠਿ ਨ ਉਤਰੈ ਜੇ ਸਉ ਧੋਵਾ ਤਿਸੁ॥” ਅੱਗੇ ਚੌਥੀ ਤੁਕ ਵਿਖੇ ਸੰਖ ਦਾ ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟਾਂਤ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ)।

The conch is impure outwardly and internally both because when blown, the spit goes in it. When it chimes, in fact it weeps because of the impurities in it.

ਗਲੀਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿਨਹੋਵਈਖੰਡੁਖੰਡੁਕਰਿਸਾਉਨਭੋਵੈ।
(ਜਿੱਕਰੁ) ਖੰਡ ਖੰਡ ਆਖਦੇ ਰਹੋ (ਤੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਵਿਖੇ ਨਾ ਪਾਓ ਤਾਂ) ਸਵਾਦ ਨਾ ਆਵੇਗਾ (ਇੱਕੁਰ) ਗੱਲਾਂ ਨਾਲ (ਆਤਮਾ) ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ।
But by mere talking, none gets satisfied, as by mere uttering word sugar one cannot have his mouth sweet.
ਮਖਨੁਖਾਇਨਨੀਰੁਵਿਲੋਵੈ।੧੭।
(ਯਾ) ਪਾਣੀ ਦੇ ਰਿੜਕਣ ਨਾਲ (ਕਦੇ) ਮੱਖਣ ਨਹੀਂ (ਕੋਈ) ਖਾ ਸਕਦਾ।
If one is to eat butter, one should not go churning water, i.e. mere talks cannot produce the right results.

ਰੁਖਾਂਵਿਚਿਕੁਰੁਖਹਨਿਦੋਵੈਂਅਰੰਡਕਨੇਰਦੁਆਲੇ।
ਬ੍ਰਿਛਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਅਰਿੰਡ ਅਤੇ ਕਨੇਰ (ਖੇਤ ਦੇ) ਦੁਆਲੇ ਭੈੜੇ ਬ੍ਰਿੱਛ ਹਨ। (ਅੱਗੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਦੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ)।
Worse among the trees, castor and oleander plants appear all around.
ਅਰੰਡੁਫਲੈਅਰਡੋਲੀਆਂਫਲਅੰਦਰਿਬੀਅਚਿਤਮਿਤਾਲੇ।
ਅਰਿੰਡ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ('ਅਰਡੋਲੀਆਂ') ਡੋਡੀਆਂ ਲੱਗਦੀਆ ਹਨ (ਉਸ) ਫਲ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਬੀਜ ਚਿੱਤਰ ਮਿੱਤਰੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਇਕ ਸਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੇ)।
Flowers grow on castor and piebald seeds remain in them.
ਨਿਬਹੈਨਾਹੀਂਨਿਜੜਾਹਰਵਰਿਆਈਹੋਇਉਚਾਲੇ।
(ਅਰਿੰਡ ਬਾਹਲੇ ਚਿਰ ਤੀਕ) ਨਹੀਂ ਟਿਕਦਾ (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ) ਜੜ੍ਹਾਂ ਥੋਂ ਰਹਿਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਜੜ੍ਹ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ), ਥੋੜੀ ਪੌਣ ਦੇ ਬੁੱਲੇ ਦੇ ਆਇਆਂ ਟੁੱਟਣ ਲਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਹੁਣ ਕਨੇਰ ਦਾ ਵਰਣਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ:)।

ਕਨੇਰ ਦੇ ਬੂਟੇ ਨੂੰ ਕਲੀਆਂ ਪੈਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਪਰੰਤੂ (ਮਨਮੁਖ ਵਾਂਙ ਜੋ) ਦੁਰਮਤ ਵਿਚ (ਹੈ) ਭੈੜੀ ਗੰਧੀ ਹੀ ਦਿਖਾਲਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ।
On oleander plants grow buds which like evil sense scatter foul smell all around.
ਬਾਹਰੁਲਾਲੁਗੁਲਾਲੁਹੋਇਅੰਦਰਿਚਿਟਾਦੁਬਿਧਾਨਾਲੇ।
ਬਾਹਰੋਂ ਲਾਲ ਗੁਲਾਲ ਜਾਪਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਅੰਦਰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਚਿੱਟਾ ਹੈ (ਅਰਥਾਤ) ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ (ਭਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ) ਹੈ, (ਬਾਹਰੋਂ ਲਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦਾ ਰੰਗ ਤੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਚਿੱਟਾ ਖਾਲੀ ਥੋਥਾ ਬੇਅਸਰ ਹੈ)। (ਹੁਣ ਛੀਵੀਂ ਤੇ ਸੱਤਵੀਂ ਤੁਕ ਵਿਖੇ ਦਾਰਸ਼ਟਾਂਤ ਦੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ:)।
Outwardly they are like red rose but internally like a dilemmatic person they are white (because of the fear of many kinds).
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਗੁਰਸਬਦੁਸੁਣਿਗਣਤੀਵਿਚਿਭਵੈਭਰਨਾਲੇ।
(ਮਨਮੁਖ) ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਖੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ ਤਾਂ ਸੁਣਦੇ ਹਨ (ਪਰੰਤੂ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਤ ਦੀਆਂ ਗਿਣਤੀਆਂ ਦੇ) ਭਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਭਰੇ ਹੋਏ ਪਏ ਭੌਂਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਜਾਂ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚ ਗੋਤੇ ਖਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ)।
Even after listening to the word of the Guru in holy congregation if some body is still lost in the calculations, he goes astray in the world.
ਕਪਟਸਨੇਹਖੇਹਮੁਹਿਕਾਲੇ।੧੮।
ਝੂਠੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ (ਹੋਣ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ) ਮੂੰਹ ਵਿਖੇ (ਇਥੇ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਦੀ) ਮਿੱਟੀ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਜਮਪੁਰੀ ਵਿਖੇ) ਮੂੰਹ ਕਾਲੇ (ਜਾਂਦੇ) ਹਨ।
Ashes are thrown on the face of fake lover and his countenance is blackened.
ਪਉੜੀ੧੯
ਵਣਵਿਚਿਫਲੈਵਣਾਸਪਤਿਬਹੁਰਸੁਗੰਧਸੁਗੰਧਸੁਹੰਦੇ।
ਬਨ ਵਿਖੇ ਬਨਸਪਤੀ (ਬ੍ਰਿੱਛ ਬੂਟੇ) ਫਲਦੀ ਹੈ, ਬਹੁਤੇ (ਬ੍ਰਿੱਛ) ਰਸਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਅਰ ਸੁਗੰਧੀਆਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਸ਼ੋਭਦੇ ਹਨ (ਅਗੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ)।

ਦਾਖਬਿਜਉਰੀਜਾਮਣੂਖਿਰਣੀਤੂਤਖਜੂਰਿਅਨੰਦੇ।
ਬਿਜੌਰ ਦੇਸ਼ ਦੀ ਦਾਖ, ਜਾਮਣੂ, ਖਿਰਣੀ, ਸੇਬ, ਤੂਤ, ਖਜੂਰਾਂ ਅਨੰਦ ਦਾਇਕ ਹਨ।
Lemon sized grapes, plums, mimosaceous, mulberry, dates etc. all are delight giving fruits.

ਅੱਕ ਦੇ ਟਿਡਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ (ਇਹ) ਮੂਲੋਂ ਚੰਗੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਗਦੇ, (ਓਹ) ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਫਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡਕੇ ਅੱਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਬੂਟਿਆਂ ਤੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।

ਅਤੇ ਕਨੇਰ ਦੀ ਕਲੀ ਕਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ (ਉਹਨਾਂ) ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਔਗੁਣ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਹਨ।

(ਐਸੇ) ਬੇਮੁਖਾਂ ਬੇਤਾਲਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਜੀਉਣਾ ਧ੍ਰਿਗ ਹੈ।

ਲਖਾਂ ਨਿੰਦਕਾਂ, ਲਖਾਂ ਬੇਮੁਖ, ਲਖਾਂ ਦੂਤ, ਲਖਾਂ ਦੁਸ਼ਟ, ਲਖਾਂ ਲੂਣ ਹਰਾਮੀ ਲੋਕ।
Millions are slanderers, millions are apostates and millions of wicked persons are untrue to their salt.

ਝੂਠੇ ਲੋਕ, ਗੁਰਨਿੰਦਕ, ਲੱਖਾਂ ਐਬਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਰਨਹਾਰੇ, ਲੱਖਾਂ ਬਦਨਾਮੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਉਠਾਉਣ ਵਾਲੇ।
Millions of liars, prevaricators of the Guru, guilty and ill-reputed ones are there.
ਅਪਰਾਧੀਬਹੁਪਤਿਤਲਖਅਵਗੁਣਿਆਰਖੁਆਰਖੁਨਾਮੀ।
ਕਈ ਅਪਰਾਧੀ, ਲਖਾਂ ਪਾਪੀ, ਅਵਗੁਣਹਾਰੇ, 'ਖੁਆਰ' ਤੇ 'ਖੁਨਾਮੀ' ਦੂਸ਼ਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਧਾਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ।
