ਇਕਕਵਾਉਪਸਾਉਕਰਿਓਅੰਕਾਰਅਨੇਕਅਕਾਰਾ।
ਓਅੰਕਾਰ' (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ) ਨੇ ਇਕ ਵਾਕ ਤੋਂ ਅਨੇਕ 'ਅਕਾਰੀ' (ਸਰੀਰ ਦਾ) ਪਸਾਰਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।
By one bang, the Oankar created and spread myriad of forms.
ਪਉਣੁਪਾਣੀਬੈਸੰਤਰੋਧਰਤਿਅਗਾਸਿਨਿਵਾਸੁਵਿਥਾਰਾ।
ਵਾਯੂ ੧, ਜਲ ੨, ਅਗਨੀ ੩, ਪ੍ਰਿਥਵੀ ੪, ਅਕਾਸ਼ ੫, (ਏਹ ਪੰਚ ਤਤ ਰਚਕੇ) (ਨਿਵਾਸ ਵਿਥਾਰਾ) ਘਰ ਕੀਤਾ (ਅਥਵਾ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੇਲ ਦਾ ਪਸਾਰਾ ਪਸਾਰਿਆ)।
He extended His self in the form of air, water, fire, earth and sky etc.
ਜਲਥਲਤਰਵਰਪਰਬਤਾਂਜੀਅਜੰਤਅਗਣਤਅਪਾਰਾ।
ਜਲਾਂ ਥਲਾਂ, ਤਰਵਰਾਂ, ਪਰਬਤਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਜੀਆ ਜੰਤ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਥੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ (ਬੇ ਓੜਕ) ਰਚ ਦਿੱਤੇ।
He created water, land, trees, mountains and many biotic communities.
ਇਕੁਵਰਭੰਡੁਅਖੰਡੁਹੈਲਖਵਰਭੰਡਪਲਕਪਲਕਾਰਾ।
ਇਕ ('ਵਰਭੰਡ' ਕਹੀਏ) ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਭਾਂਡਾ (ਭਾਵ ਆਧਾਰ ਰੂਪ ਆਤਮਾ) ਇਕ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਰ ਹੋਰ ਲਖਾਂ ਬ੍ਰਹਿਮੰਡਾਂ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ਅੱਖ ਦੇ ਫੋਰ ਵਿਚ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ('ਹਰਨ ਭਰਨ ਜਾਕਾ ਨੇਤ੍ਰ ਫੋਰੁ')।
That supreme creator Himself is indivisible and in one wink of an eye can create millions of universes.
ਕੁਦਰਤਿਕੀਮਨਜਾਣੀਐਕੇਵਡੁਕਾਦਰੁਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰਾ।
ਕੁਦਰਤ (ਮਾਯਾ) ਦੀ ਕੀਮਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਖੀਦੀ, ਉਸਦਾ ਰਚਨਹਾਰ 'ਕਾਦਰ' ਕਿੱਡਾਕੁ ਆਖੀਏ?
When boundaries of His creation are unknowable, how can the expanse of that Creator be known?
ਅੰਤੁਬਿਅੰਤੁਨਪਾਰਾਵਾਰਾ।੧।
ਇਸੇ ਲਈ ਅੰਤ ਥੋਂ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਹੈ (ਉਸਦਾ) ਉਰਾਰ ਪਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਖੀਦਾ। ਭਾਵ, ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਬੇਅੰਤਤਾਈ ਦੱਸੀ ਹੈ)।
No end is there of His extremes; they are infinite.
ਪਉੜੀ੨
ਕੇਵਡੁਵਡਾਆਖੀਐਵਡੇਦੀਵਡੀਵਡਿਆਈ।
ਕਿੱਡਾ ਕੁ ਵਡਾ ਕਹੀਏ (ਉਸ) ਵਡੇ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ) ਦੀ ਵਡੀ ਹੀ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਹੈ, ('ਕਬੀਰ ਸਾਤ ਸਮੁੰਦਹਿ ਮਸੁ ਕਰਉ ਕਲਮ ਕਰਉ ਬਨਰਾਇ॥ ਬਸੁਧਾ ਕਾਗਦੁ ਜਉ ਕਰਉ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਲਿਖਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ॥' ਇਸ ਲਈ ਅੰਤ ਨੂੰ ਛਡਕੇ)।
How vast could He be said? The grandeur of the Great is great.
ਵਡੀਹੂੰਵਡਾਵਖਾਣੀਐਸੁਣਿਸੁਣਿਆਖਣੁਆਖਸੁਣਾਈ।
ਵਡਿਆਈ ਥੋਂ ਬੀ ਵਡਾ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ ਸਮਾਨ ਗਿਆਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਵਰਣਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਖ ਗਿਆਨ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਨੇਤ੍ਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਵਿਖ੍ਯ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਲਈ) ਸੁਣ ਸੁਣਕੇ ਅਖਾਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਕੇ ਸੁਣਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
I relate what I have heard that He is said to be the greatest of the great.
ਰੋਮਰੋਮਵਿਚਿਰਖਿਓਨੁਕਰਿਵਰਭੰਡਕਰੋੜਿਸਮਾਈ।
ਰੋਮ ਰੋਮ ਵਿਖੇ ਕ੍ਰੋੜ ਕ੍ਰੋੜ ਬ੍ਰਹਿਮੰਡ ਦੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਉਸ ਈਸ਼ਵਰ ਨੇ) ਰੱਖ ਛੱਡੀ ਹੈ।
Crores of universes reside in His trichome.
ਇਕੁਕਵਾਉਪਸਾਉਜਿਸੁਤੋਲਿਅਤੋਲੁਨਤੁਲਿਤੁਲਾਈ।
ਜਿਸਦੇ ਇਕ ਵਾਕ ਦਾ (ਇਹ) ਪਸਾਰਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਤੋਲਣ ਥੋਂ ਅਤੋਲ ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ ਤੱਕੜੀ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਨਹੀਂ ਤੋਲ ਸਕਦੀ।
None could be compared with Him Who created and spread everything with one bang.
ਵੇਦਕਤੇਬਹੁਬਾਹਰਾਅਕਥਕਹਾਣੀਕਥੀਨਜਾਈ।
ਬੇਦ ਕਤੇਬਾਂ ਥੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਕਥਾ ਅਕੱਥ ਹੈ, ਕਿਸੇ ਥੋਂ ਕਥਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ (ਯਥਾ 'ਬੇਦ ਕਤੇਬ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਹਭਾਹੂੰ ਬਾਹਰਾ, ਨਾਨਕ ਕਾ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹੁ ਦਿਸੈ ਜਾਹਰਾ'॥
He is beyond all the statements of the Vedas and the Katebas. His ineffable story is beyond all descriptions.
ਅਬਿਗਤਿਗਤਿਕਿਵਅਲਖੁਲਖਾਈ।੨।
ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਗਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ, ਉਹ ਅਲੱਖ ਕਿੱਕੁਰ ਲਖਿਆ ਜਾਵੇ?
How could His unmanifest dynamism by seen and understood?
ਪਉੜੀ੩
ਜੀਉਪਾਇਤਨੁਸਾਜਿਆਮੁਹੁਅਖੀਨਕੁਕੰਨਸਵਾਰੇ।
ਜੀਵ ਉਪਾਵਣ ਲਈ ਦੇਹੀ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਜਕੇ ਮੂੰਹ (ਉਪਲਖਤ ਜੀਭ), ਅੱਖਾਂ, ਨੱਕ, ਕੰਨ (ਅਰ ਤੁਚਾ) ਸਵਾਰੇ ਹਨ।
Creating the jiva (self) He made his body and gave good shape to his mouth, nose, eyes and ears.
ਹਥਪੈਰਦੇਦਾਤਿਕਰਿਸਬਦਸੁਰਤਿਸੁਭਦਿਸਟਿਦੁਆਰੇ।
ਹੱਥ ਪੈਰ (ਆਦਿ) ਦੇਕੇ ਈਸ਼੍ਵਰ ਨੇ ਦਾਤ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ, ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਸੁਰਤ (ਕੰਨਾਂ) ਦੁਆਰੇ, (ਨੇਤਰ ਗੋਲਕ) ਵਿਖੇ ਭਲੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਬਖਸ਼ੀ ਹੈ।
Gracefully He bestowed hands and feet, ears and consciousness for listening to the Word and eye for beholding goodness.
ਕਿਰਤਿਵਿਰਤਿਪਰਕਿਰਤਿਬਹੁਸਾਸਿਗਿਰਾਸਿਨਿਵਾਸੁਸੰਜਾਰੇ।
(ਹੱਥਾਂ ਵਿਖੈ) ਵਿਰਤਿ ਦੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਯਾ, ਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਬਾਹਲੀਆਂ ਕ੍ਰਿਯਾ ਪਾਈਆਂ, ਸਾਸ ਗਿਰਾਸ ਦਾ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਕੀਤਾ (ਅਰਥਾਤ ਸ੍ਵਾਸ ਬਾਹਰ ਤੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣ ਲੱਗਾ)।
For earning of the livelihood and other works, he infused life into body.
ਰਾਗਰੰਗਰਸਪਰਸਦੇਗੰਧਸੁਗੰਧਸੰਧਿਪਰਕਾਰੇ।
ਰਾਗ ਰੰਗ, (ਰਾਗ ਦਾ ਅਨੰਦ) ਰਸ, ਸਪਰਸ਼ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਗੰਧਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਸੁਗੰਧੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਮੇਲਣ ਦਾ ਪਰਕਾਰ (ਬਖਸ਼ਿਆ)।
He bestowed various techniques of assimilation of music, colours, smells and fragrances.
ਛਾਦਨਭੋਜਨਬੁਧਿਬਲੁਟੇਕਬਿਬੇਕਵੀਚਾਰਵੀਚਾਰੇ।
ਕੱਪੜੇ ਅਰ ਭੋਜਨ ਦਿਤੇ, ਬੁੱਧੀ ਅਰ ਬਲ (ਪਾਇਆ), (ਸਰੀਰ ਦੇ ਉਧਾਰ ਲਈ) ਗਿਆਨ ਦਾ ਆਸ਼੍ਰਯ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਅਰ 'ਵੀਚਾਰ ਵੀਚਾਰੇ' (ਵਿਹਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਲਈ) ਸ਼ੁਭਾਸ਼ੁਭ ਬੀਚਾਰ ਦਿਤੇ।
For clothing and eating He gave wisdom, power, devotion, and discriminatory wisdom and thought process.
ਦਾਨੇਕੀਮਤਿਨਾਪਵੈਬੇਸੁਮਾਰਦਾਤਾਰਪਿਆਰੇ।
ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀਆਂ ਬਖਸ਼ਿਸ਼ਾਂ (ਦਾਤਾਂ) ਦੀ ਕੀਮਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈ ਸਕਦੀ (ਤਦ ਓਹ) ਆਪ ਦਾਤਾਰ (ਕੇਡਾ) ਬੇਸ਼ੁਮਾਰ ਹੈ, (ਅਰ ਉਸ ਦਾ) ਪਿਆਰ ਬੀ ਅਨਗਿਣਤ ਹੈ।
The mysteries of that Bestower cannot be understood; that loving Donor keeps with Him myriad's of virtues.
ਲੇਖਅਲੇਖਅਸੰਖਅਪਾਰੇ।੩।
ਲੇਖ ਤੋਂ ਅਲੇਖ ਹੈ, ਅਨਗਿਣਤ ਹੈ, ਅਰ ਪਾਰ ਰਹਿਤ ਹੈ।
Beyond all accounts, He is infinite and unfathomable.
ਪਉੜੀ੪
ਪੰਜਿਤਤੁਪਰਵਾਣੁਕਰਿਖਾਣੀਚਾਰਿਜਗਤੁਉਪਾਇਆ।
ਪੰਜ ਤੱਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਅੰਦਾਜ਼ਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਚਾਰੇ ਖਾਣੀਆਂ (ਅੰਡਜ, ਜੇਰਜ, ਸੇਤਜ ਉਤਭੁਜ) ਦਾ ਜਗਤ ਉਤਪਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।
Mixing the five elements from four (life) mines (egg, foetus, sweat, vegetation) the whole world was created.
ਲਖਚਉਰਾਸੀਹਜੂਨਿਵਿਚਿਆਵਾਗਵਣਚਲਤੁਵਰਤਾਇਆ।
ਚੌਰਾਸੀ ਲਖ ਜੂਨੀਆਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਆਵਾ ਗੌਣ ਦਾ ਚਲਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਵਰਤਾਇਆ ਹੈ।
Creating the eighty-four lakhs speicies of life, the feat of transmigration has been accomplished in them.
ਇਕਸਇਕਸਜੂਨਿਵਿਚਿਜੀਅਜੰਤਅਣਗਣਤਵਧਾਇਆ।
ਇਕ ਇਕ ਜੋਨੀ ਵਿਖੇ ਜੀਆ ਜੰਤ ਬੇਸ਼ੁਮਾਰ ਵਧਾ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ।
In each one of the species many a creature has been produced.
ਲੇਖੈਅੰਦਰਿਸਭਕੋਸਭਨਾਮਸਤਕਿਲੇਖੁਲਿਖਾਇਆ।
(ਫੇਰ) ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਲੇਖੇ ਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੈ, ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇਪੁਰ ਲੇਖ ਲਿਖ ਦਿਤਾ ਹੈ।
All are responsible (for their actions) and carry writ of fate on their forehead.
ਲੇਖੈਸਾਸਗਿਰਾਸਦੇਲੇਖਲਿਖਾਰੀਅੰਤੁਨਪਾਇਆ।
ਲੇਖੇ ਵਿਚ ਸਾਸ ਗਿਰਾਸ ਹਨ, ਉਸ ਲਿਖਾਰੀ (ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ) ਦੇ ਲੇਖੇ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਕਿਸੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਇਆ ('ਕੋਇ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ਤੇਰਾ ਕੇਤਾ ਕੇਵਡੁ ਚੀਰਾ')
Every breath and morsel is counted. Mystery of writs and that Writer could not be known by any one.
ਆਪਿਅਲੇਖੁਨਅਲਖੁਲਖਾਇਆ।੪।
ਆਪ (ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ) ਅਲੇਖ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਪੁਰ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਲੇਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਫੇਰ) ਅਲਖ ਹੈ, (ਅਰਥਾਤ ਕਿਸੇ ਇੰਦ੍ਰਯ ਦਾ ਵਿਖਯ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ) ਕਿਸੇ ਨਹੀਂ (ਉਸ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ) ਲਖਿਆ।
Himself imperceptible, He is beyond all writs.
ਪਉੜੀ੫
ਭੈਵਿਚਿਧਰਤਿਅਗਾਸੁਹੈਨਿਰਾਧਾਰਭੈਭਾਰਿਧਰਾਇਆ।
(ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਨੇ ਆਪ) ਆਸ਼੍ਰਯ ਤੋਂ ਰਹਿਤ ਹੋਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਯ ਵਿਚ ਧਰਤੀ ਤੇ ਆਕਾਸ਼ ਰਖੇ ਹਨ। (ਅਰ ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਨੂੰ) ਆਪਣੇ ਭੈ ਦੇ ਭਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਰਖਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
Earth and sky are in fear but not held by any support, and, that Lord sustains them under the weight of fears.
ਪਉਣੁਪਾਣੀਬੈਸੰਤਰੋਭੈਵਿਚਿਰਖੈਮੇਲਿਮਿਲਾਇਆ।
ਵਾਯੂ, ਜਲ, ਅਗਨੀ; (ਆਦਿ ਸਾਰੇ ਤੱਤ) ਭਯ ਵਿਚ ਰਖਕੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਪੋ ਵਿਚ ਮੇਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਦਿਤਾ ਹੈ।
Keeping air, water and fire in fear (discipline). He has mixed them all (and has created the world).
ਪਾਣੀਅੰਦਰਿਧਰਤਿਧਰਿਵਿਣੁਥੰਮ੍ਹਾਆਗਾਸੁਰਹਾਇਆ।
ਪਾਣੀ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਧਰਤੀ ਰੱਖੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ, ਅਕਾਸ਼ ਥੰਮ੍ਹਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
Setting earth in water He has established sky without the support of any props.
ਕਾਠੈਅੰਦਰਿਅਗਨਿਧਰਿਕਰਿਪਰਫੁਲਿਤਸੁਫਲੁਫਲਾਇਆ।
ਲੱਕੜੀ ਵਿਚ ਅੱਗ ਰੱਖੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ, ਫੇਰ ਬ੍ਰਿੱਛਾਂ ਨੂੰ 'ਪਰਫੁਲਤ' ਰੱਖਕੇ ਫਲਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਫਲਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
He kept fire in wood and loading the trees with flowers and fruits made them meaningful.
ਨਵੀਦੁਆਰੀਪਵਣੁਧਰਿਭੈਵਿਚਿਸੂਰਜੁਚੰਦਚਲਾਇਆ।
ਨੌ ਦੁਆਰਿਆਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਪਵਣ ਰੱਖੀ ਹੈ (ਅਰਥਾਤ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਦੀਆਂ ਮੈਲਾਂ ਬਾਹਰ ਨਿਕਲਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ); ਸੂਰਜ ਤੇ ਚੰਦ ਭੀ ਭੈ ਵਿਚ ਚਲਾਏ ਹਨ।
Keeping air (life) in all the nine doors He made the sun and the moon to move in fear (discipline).
ਨਿਰਭਉਆਪਿਨਿਰੰਜਨੁਰਾਇਆ।੫।
ਪਰ ਆਪ ਮਾਇਆ ਤੋਂ ਅਲੇਪ ਰਾਜਾ (ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ) ਨਿਰਭਉ ਹੈ (ਪੌਣ ਬੀ ਸੂਖਮ ਤੱਤ ਹੈ, ਪੰਜਾਹ ਮੀਲ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਨਹੀਂ, ਪਰ ਅਕਾਸ਼ ਤੱਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਵ੍ਯਾਪਕ ਹੈ; ਪੱਛਮੀ ਵਿਦ੍ਵਾਨ ਬੀ ਹੁਣ ਅਕਾਸ਼ ਨੂੰ ਈਥਰ ਨਾਮ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੰਨਦੇ ਹਨ)।
That spotless Lord Himself is beyond all fears.
ਪਉੜੀ੬
ਲਖਅਸਮਾਨਉਚਾਣਿਚੜਿਉਚਾਹੋਇਨਅੰਬੜਿਸਕੈ।
ਲੱਖ ਅਸਮਾਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਉਚਾਈ ਪੁਰ ਚੜ੍ਹਕੇ ਕੋਈ ਉਚਾ ਹੋ ਖੜੋਵੇ (ਪਰ ਉਸ ਉਚੇ ਈਸ਼੍ਵਰ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ) ਪਹੁੰਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ)
Even mounting the lakhs of sky none can reach that highest Lord.
ਉਚੀਹੂੰਊਚਾਘਣਾਥਾਉਗਿਰਾਉਨਨਾਉਅਥਕੈ।
ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉਚੇ ਲੋਕ ਜੋ ਹਨ (ਉਹ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਥੋਂ ਬੀ) ਬਹੁਤਾ ਉਚਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸਦੇ ਪਿੰਡ ਦਾ ਨਾਂ ਥਾਉਂ ਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਨਾਉਂ ਹੀ ਹੈ (ਸਾਰੇ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਫੇਰ ਤੁਰ ਫਿਰਕੇ) ਥਕਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ (ਭਾਵ, ਸਾਰੇ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ, ਅਰ ਫੇਰ ਅਕਾਸ਼ਵਤ ਜੜ੍ਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਚੇਤਨ ਹੈ)।
He is higher than the highest; He has no (particular) place, residence, name and any fatigue.
ਲਖਪਤਾਲਨੀਵਾਣਿਜਾਇਨੀਵਾਹੋਇਨਨੀਵੈਤਕੈ।
ਲੱਖਾਂ ਪਾਤਾਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਿਵਾਣਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜਾਕੇ ਬੀ ਨੀਵਾਂ ਜੋ ਜਾਵੇ (ਫੇਰ ਬੀ) ਡੂੰਘੇ ਈਸ਼੍ਵਰ ਨੂੰ (ਕੋਈ) ਤੱਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੱਕੂ, (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਉਹ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਪਤਾਲਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬੀ ਡੂੰਘਾ ਹੈ। ਅਗੇ ਚਾਰੇ ਲਾਭਾਂ ਦਾ ਵਰਣਨ ਹੈ)।
If someone goes low equal to millions of netherworlds even then he cannot behold Him.
ਪੂਰਬਿਪਛਮਿਉਤਰਾਧਿਦਖਣਿਫੇਰਿਚਉਫੇਰਿਨਢਕੈ।
ਪੂਰਬ, ਪੱਛੋਂ, ਉੱਤਰ, ਦੱਖਣ ਦੇ ਚਉਫੇਰੇ ਫਿਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਲਾਂਭ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੱਜ ਸਕਦੀ (ਜੇਕਰ ਪਰਛਿੰਨ ਅਰਥਾਤ ਅਲਪ ਵਸਤੂ ਹੋਵੇ ਤਦ ਦੇਸ਼ ਕਾਲ ਵਸਤੂ ਦੇ ਭੇਦ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਲੁਕ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਰਬ ਦੇਸ਼, ਸਰਬ ਕਾਲ, ਸਰਬ ਵਸਤੂ ਵਿਖੇ ਅਕਾਸ਼ ਵਤ ਵ੍ਯਾਪਕ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਇਸੇ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਸਦਾ)
Even the covers of all the four directions - north, east, south, west, cannot over Him.
ਓੜਕਮੂਲੁਨਲਭਈਓਪਤਿਪਰਲਉਅਖਿਫਰਕੈ।
ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭਦਾ, ਉਤਪਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਪਰਲਯ ਅੱਖ ਦੇ ਫੋਰ ਵਿਖੇ ਕਰ ਸੱਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
His expanse cannot be attained; He by one wink of His eye can create and dissolute (the whole cosmos).
ਫੁਲਾਂਅੰਦਰਿਵਾਸੁਮਹਕੈ।੬।
ਪਰ (ਜਿਕੁਰ) ਫੁੱਲਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਵਾਸ਼ਨਾਂ ਮਹਿਕ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ (ਅਜਿਹਾ ਹੀ ਈਸ਼੍ਵਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੋਕਰ ਮਹਿਕ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਸੱਤਾ ਦੇ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ)।
As the fragrance adorns the flower, the Lord also is present everywhere.
ਪਉੜੀ੭
ਓਅੰਕਾਰਿਅਕਾਰੁਕਰਿਥਿਤਿਵਾਰੁਨਮਾਹੁਜਣਾਇਆ।
(ਜਦ 'ਓਅੰਕਾਰ') ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਨੇ (ਅਕਾਰ=) ਪਰਪੰਚ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ, ਤਦੋਂ ਥਿਤ ਵਾਰ ਅਰ ਮਹੀਨਾ (ਕੁਝ ਬੀ, ਕੋਈ ਬੀ) ਜਾਣਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ।
About the day and month of the creation, the Creator has told nothing to anybody.
ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੁਆਕਾਰੁਵਿਣੁਏਕੰਕਾਰਨਅਲਖੁਲਖਾਇਆ।
(ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ') ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਰੂਪ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾਂ (ਜੋਤੀ ਸਰੂਪ ਸੀ), (ਉਸ) 'ਏਕੰਕਾਰ' ਅਲਖ ਨੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪ ਨਹੀਂ 'ਲਖਾਇਆ' (=ਦਸਿਆ)।
The Formless One who resided in His own self did not make anybody see His imperceptible form.
ਆਪੇਆਪਿਉਪਾਇਕੈਆਪੇਅਪਣਾਨਾਉਧਰਾਇਆ।
ਆਪ (ਜਗਤ) ਉਤਪੰਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਉਂ (ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ਰ ਦਾ ਸਰਬ ਨਾਮ) ਧਰਾਇਆ ਸੀ (ਅਥਵਾ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਰਚਕੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਕਲਯਾਨ ਦਾ ਸਾਧਨ ਆਪਨਾ ਨਾਮ ਬੀ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਥਾਪਤ ਕੀਤਾ)।
Himself He created all and Himself He (for the weal of creatures) established His name in their hearts.
ਆਦਿਪੁਰਖੁਆਦੇਸੁਹੈਹੈਭੀਹੋਸੀਹੋਂਦਾਆਇਆ।
(ਓਹ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਸਰਬ ਦਾ) ਆਦਿ (ਕਾਰਨ) ਹੈ ਨਮਸਕਾਰ ਹੋਵੇ ਸਾਡੀ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਜੋ ਹੁਣ ਹੈ, ਅਗੇ ਹੋਸੀ. ਭੂਤ ਕਾਲ ਵਿਖੇ ਪਰੰਪਰਾ ਤੋਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਆਇਆ ਹੈ।
I bow before that primal Lord, who is there in the present, who will remain in the future and who was in the beginning as well.
ਆਦਿਨਅੰਤੁਬਿਅੰਤੁਹੈਆਪੇਆਪਿਨਆਪੁਗਣਾਇਆ।
ਉਸਦਾ ਮੁੱਢ ਅਰ ਉਸਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ) ਓਹ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਹੈ, ਆਪੇ ਆਪ ਹੈ, ਜਤਾਉਂਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ।
He is beyond beginning, beyond end and is infinite; but He never makes Himself noticed.
ਆਪੇਆਪੁਉਪਾਇਸਮਾਇਆ।੭।
(ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ) ਆਪ ਰਚਕੇ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਸਮਾਇ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
He created the world and Himself subsumes it in His self.
ਪਉੜੀ੮
ਰੋਮਰੋਮਵਿਚਿਰਖਿਓਨੁਕਰਿਵਰਭੰਡਕਰੋੜਿਸਮਾਈ।
(ਇਕ ਇਕ) ਰੋਮ ਵਿਖੇ ਕਰੋੜ ਬ੍ਰਹਿਮੰਡ ਦੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਨੂੰ (ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾਂ ਨੇ) ਰਖਿਆ ਹੈ।
In His one trichome He has subsumed crores of universes.
ਕੇਵਡੁਵਡਾਆਖੀਐਕਿਤੁਘਰਿਵਸੈਕੇਵਡੁਜਾਈ।
(ਹੁਣ ਆਪ ਸੋਚੋ) ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਅਸੀਂ ਕਿੱਡਾ ਕੁ ਵਡਾ ਕਹੀਏ ਤੇ ਕਿਹੜੇ ਘਰ ਵਿਖੇ ਵਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਕਿਹੜੀ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਜਗ੍ਹਾ ਹੈ? (ਭਾਵ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਇਕ ਵਾਕ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਤੇ ਥਾਉਂ ਦਾ ਕੀ ਪਤਾ ਦੇਈਏ, ਯਥਾ:-”ਸੋ ਦਰੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਕੇਹਾ ਸੋ ਘਰੁ ਕੇਹਾ ਜਿਤੁ ਬਹਿ ਸਰਬ ਸਮਾਲੇ॥ ਵਾਜੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਦ ਅਨੇਕ ਅਸੰਖਾ ਕੇਤੇ ਤੇਰੇ
What can be said about His expanse, His abode and the extent of His place?
ਇਕੁਕਵਾਉਅਮਾਉਹੈਲਖਦਰੀਆਉਨਕੀਮਤਿਪਾਈ।
ਤੇਰਾ ਇਕ ਵਾਕ ਮਿਣਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ (ਉਸ ਤੇਰੇ ਇਕ ਵਾਕ ਥੋਂ ਹੋਏ) ਲਖਾਂ ਦਰੀਆਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਕੀਮਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਈ ਜਾਂਦੀ (ਯਥਾ:-”ਕੀਤਾ ਪਾਸਉ ਏਕੋ ਕਵਾਉ॥ ਤਿਸ ਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਲਖ ਦਰੀਆਉ॥ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਕਵਣ ਕਹਾ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ॥ ਵਾਰਿਆ ਨ ਜਾਵਾ ਏਕ ਵਾਰ”)॥
Even His one sentence is beyond all limits and its evaluation cannot be done by millions of rivers of knowledge.
ਪਰਵਦਗਾਰੁਅਪਾਰੁਹੈਪਾਰਾਵਾਰੁਨਅਲਖੁਲਖਾਈ।
(ਹੇ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ! ਤੂੰ) ਪਰਵਦਗਾਰ (ਸਭ ਦਾ ਪਾਲਕ) ਹੈਂ, ਅਪਾਰ ਹੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਪਾਰਾਵਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਨਾ ਅਲਖ ਦੀ ਲਖਤਾ ਹੀ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ।
That sustainer of the world is inaccessible; his beginning and end is imperceptible.
ਏਵਡੁਵਡਾਹੋਇਕੈਕਿਥੈਰਹਿਆਆਪੁਲੁਕਾਈ।
ਏਡਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਹੋਕੇ ਕਿਥੇ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਦਾ ਆਪ ਲੁਕਾ ਛਡਿਆ ਹੈ?
Being so much great where has He hidden Himself?
ਸੁਰਨਰਨਾਥਰਹੇਲਿਵਲਾਈ।੮।
ਦੇਉਤੇ, ਆਦਮੀ, ਜੋਗੀ ਲੋਕ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਕੇ (ਥੱਕ) ਰਹੇ, (ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਯਾ)।
To know this, the gods, men and many a nath are ever in concentration upon Him.
ਪਉੜੀ੯
ਲਖਦਰੀਆਉਕਵਾਉਵਿਚਿਅਤਿਅਸਗਾਹਅਥਾਹਵਹੰਦੇ।
(ਉਸਦੇ) ਵਾਕ (ਅਥਵਾ ਸਰੀਰ) ਵਿਖੇ ਲਖਾਂ ਦਰੀਆਉ (ਭਾਵ ਵਿਚ ਕਾਰਕ ਬੀ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ) ਅਤੀ ਡੂੰਘੇ ਤੇ ਅਥਾਹ ਵਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਦਸਮ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਬਚਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ 'ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਕੀ ਦੇਹ ਮੋ ਕੋਟਕ ਬਿਸਨ ਮਹੇਸ॥ ਕੋਟ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਕਿਤੇ ਰਵਿ ਸਸਿ ਕ੍ਰੋਰ ਜਲੇਸ'॥)
In His will lakhs of deep and unfathomable rivers (of life) go on flowing.
ਆਦਿਨਅੰਤੁਬਿਅੰਤੁਹੈਅਗਮਅਗੋਚਰਫੇਰਫਿਰੰਦੇ।
ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰ' (ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਰੂਪੀ ਅਸਗਾਹ ਸਮੁੰਦ੍ਰ ਵਿਖੇ) ਘੁੰਮਣ ਘੇਰੀਆਂ ਖਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
Beginning and end of those life currents cannot be understood.
ਅਲਖੁਅਪਾਰੁਵਖਾਣੀਐਪਾਰਾਵਾਰੁਨਪਾਰਲਹੰਦੇ।
(ਉਹ) ਅਲੱਖ ਤੇ ਅਪਾਰ ਕਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਪਾਰਾਵਾਰ ਦਾ ਪਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੈ ਸਕਦੇ।
They are infinite, inaccessible and imperceptible but still all move in the Lord, the great. They cannot know the extent of that imperceptible and boundless Lord.
ਲਹਰਿਤਰੰਗਨਿਸੰਗਲਖਸਾਗਰਸੰਗਮਰੰਗਰਵੰਦੇ।
ਲਹਿਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਤਰੰਗ, ਬੁਦਬੁਦੇ ਨਿਸਚੇ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਹੀ ਸਮੁੰਦ੍ਰ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਕੇ ਉਸੇ ਦੇ ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਚਲਦੇ ਹਨ।
Rivers having myriad's of waves meeting the ocean becomes one with it.
ਰਤਨਪਦਾਰਥਲਖਲਖਮੁਲਿਅਮੁਲਿਨਤੁਲਿਤੁਲੰਦੇ।
ਕਈ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਰਤਨ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਓਸ ਮੁੱਲ ਥੋਂ ਅਮੋਲਕ ਗੁਣ ਧਾਰਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ)।
In that ocean are lakhs of invaluable jewel materials, which in fact are beyond all costing.
ਸਦਕੇਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰਿਸਿਰੰਦੇ।੯।
ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਥੋਂ ਅਸੀਂ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। (ਅਗੇ ਇਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਹੋਰ ਪੁਸ਼ਟ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੈਨ)।
I am sacrifice unto that Creator Lord.
ਪਉੜੀ੧੦
ਪਰਵਦਗਾਰੁਸਲਾਹੀਐਸਿਰਠਿਉਪਾਈਰੰਗਬਿਰੰਗੀ।
ਪਾਲਣਾ ਕਰਨਹਾਰੇ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਲਾਘਾ ਕਰੀਏ (ਜਿਸ ਨੇ) ਨਾਨਾ ਰੰਗਾਂ ਦੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਰਚੀ ਹੈ।
That sustainer Lord ought to be praised who has created the multicoloured creation.
ਰਾਜਿਕੁਰਿਜਕੁਸਬਾਹਿਦਾਸਭਨਾਦਾਤਿਕਰੇਅਣਮੰਗੀ।
ਰੋਟੀ ਸਭ ਨੂੰ ਪਹੁੰਚਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਭਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਅਣਮੰਗੀ ਦਾਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
He is bestower of livelihood to everyone and giver of charity unasked for.
ਕਿਸੈਜਿਵੇਹਾਨਾਹਿਕੋਦੁਬਿਧਾਅੰਦਰਿਮੰਦੀਚੰਗੀ।
ਇਕ ਦੂਜੇ ਨਾਲ ਕਿਸੇ ਦਾ ਰੰਗ ਰੂਪ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦਾ, ਦ੍ਵੈਤ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ (ਕੋਈ ਤਾਂ) ਮੰਦੀ (ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਹੈ ਭਾਵ ਆਸੁਰੀ ਸੰਪਦਾ ਵਾਲੀ ਕੋਈ) ਚੰਗੀ ਦੈਵੀ ਸੰਪਦਾ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ (ਯਥਾ:-'ਅਸੰਖ ਜਪ ਅਸੰਖ ਭਾਉ' ਦੀਆਂ ਪੌੜੀਆਂ ਹਨ)।
None resembles anyone and the jiva (creative) is good or bad according to the ratio of perplexity in him.
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁਨਿਰਲੇਪੁਹੈਪੂਰਨੁਬ੍ਰਹਮੁਸਦਾਸਹਲੰਗੀ।
(ਰਚਨਹਾਰ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਹੈ, ਸਰਬ ਵਿਖੇ ਪੂਰਣ ਹੈ, ਅਰ ਸਰਬ ਨਾਲ ਸਦਾ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
Being transcendent, He is detached from every thing and being perfect Brahm. He is always with everybody.
ਵਰਨਾਂਚਿਹਨਾਂਬਾਹਰਾਸਭਨਾਅੰਦਰਿਹੈਸਰਬੰਗੀ।
(ਫੇਰ) ਵਰਨਾਂ ਚਿਹਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ ਹੈ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸਰਬੰਗੀ (ਭਾਵ ਨਖ ਥੋਂ ਸ਼ਿਖਾ ਤੀਕ ਵ੍ਯਾਪਕ ਹੋਕੇ ਫੈਲ ਰਿਹਾ) ਹੈ।
He is beyond caste and symbols etc. but side by side He pervades one and all.
ਪਉਣੁਪਾਣੀਬੈਸੰਤਰੁਸੰਗੀ।੧੦।
ਪਉਣ ਪਾਣੀ, ਅਤੇ ਬੈਸੰਤਰ (ਆਦਿ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਪੰਜਾਂ ਭੂਤਾਂ ਦਾ) 'ਸੰਗੀ' ਹੈ, (ਭਾਵ ਸਭ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ)।
He is in air, water and fire i.e. He is the power of these elements.
ਪਉੜੀ੧੧
ਓਅੰਕਾਰਿਆਕਾਰੁਕਰਿਮਖੀਇਕਉਪਾਈਮਾਇਆ।
ਓਅੰਕਾਰ' ਪ੍ਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ (ਮਨ ਵਿਖੇ) ਫੁਰਨਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਯਾ ਰੂਪ ਬਣਾਕੇ) ਇਕ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਮੱਖੀ ਉਤਪਤ ਕੀਤੀ। (ਮੱਖੀ ਕਹਿਣ ਥੋਂ ਭਾਵ ਇਹ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਕ ਜਗ੍ਹਾ ਟਿਕਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਛਲ ਰੂਪ ਹੈ ਅਰ ਦੁਰਗੰਧੀ ਪੁਰ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਹਾ ਕਿ 'ਮਾਖੀ ਰਾਮ ਕੀ ਤੂ ਮਾਖੀ॥ ਜਹ ਦੁਰਗੰਧ ਤਹਾ ਤੂ ਬੈਸਹਿ ਮਹਾ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਮਦ ਚਾਖੀ॥' ਭਾਵ ਜਿਥੇ ਵ

ਤਿਨਿਲੋਅਚਉਦਹਭਵਣੁਜਲਥਲੁਮਹੀਅਲੁਛਲੁਕਰਿਛਾਇਆ।
ਤਿੰਨ ਲੋਕ ਚੌਦਾਂ ਭਵਨ (ਸਾਰਾ ਸੰਸਾਰ) ਹੋਰ ਜਲ, ਥਲ, ਪ੍ਰਿਥਵੀ, ਅਕਾਸ਼, ਸਭਨਾਂ ਪਰ (ਮਾਇਆ ਨੇ) ਅਪਣੇ ਛਲ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ (ਰੂਪ) ਦੀ ਛਾਇਆ (ਕਰ ਰਖੀ ਹੈ)।
It cheated profusely all the three worlds, fourteen abodes, water, surface and the nether world.
ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾਬਿਸਨਮਹੇਸੁਤ੍ਰੈਦਸਅਵਤਾਰਬਜਾਰਿਨਚਾਇਆ।
ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਬਿਸ਼ਨ ਅਰ ਸ਼ਿਵ ਏਹ ਤਿੰਨ (ਅਰ ਹੋਰ) ਦਸ ਅਵਤਾਰ ਹੋਏ, (ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ) ਬਜ਼ਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ (ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਚ) ਨਚਾਯਾ (ਭਾਵ ਲੋਕ ਰਾਸਾਂ ਪਾਕੇ ਅਵਤਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਚਾਕੇ ਤਮਾਸ਼ਾ ਦੇਖਣ ਲਗੇ। ਜਿਹਾਕੁ 'ਵਾਇਨਿ ਚੇਲੇ ਨਚਨਿ ਗੁਰ॥ ਪੈਰ ਚਲਾਇਨਿ ਫੇਰਨਿ ਸਿਰਿ॥ ਉਡਿ ਉਡਿ ਰਾਵਾ ਝਾਟੈ ਪਾਇ॥ ਵੇਖੈ ਲੋਕੁ ਹਸੈ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਇ'॥)
All the ten incarnations, besides Brahma, Visnu, Mahesa, it made to dance in the bazar in the form of world.

ਜਤੀ, ਸਤੀ ਸੰਤੋਖੀ ਲੋਕ, ਸਿਧ, (ਨੌ) ਨਾਥਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਾਹਲੇ ਪੰਥ (ਭੇਖਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਨੇ) ('ਭੌਤਲ'=) ਭੌਂਦੂ ਕਰ ਛਡਿਆ ਹੈ।
The celibates, the chaste ones, the contented people, siddhas and naths all were made to move astray on the paths of various sects.
ਕਾਮਕਰੋਧਵਿਰੋਧਵਿਚਿਲੋਭਮੋਹੁਕਰਿਧ੍ਰੋਹੁਲੜਾਇਆ।
ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ (ਦੇ ਝਗੜਿਆਂ ਵਿਖੇ) ਲੋਭ ਤੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੀ (ਫਾਂਸੀ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਹੋਏ ਆਪੋ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਰੋਧ ਕਰਕੇ) ਧ੍ਰੋਹ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਲੜਦੇ ਹਨ।
Maya infused lust, anger, opposition, greed, infatuation, and deceit in all and made them to have infightings.
ਹਉਮੈਅੰਦਰਿਸਭੁਕੋਸੇਰਹੁਘਟਿਨਕਿਨੈਅਖਾਇਆ।
(ਸਿੱਧਾਂਤ) ਸਾਰਾ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਫਸਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, (ਫੇਰ ਬੀ) ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਅਪੂਰਨ ਕਿਸੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਹਾਇਆ। (ਸਭ ਕੋਈ ਸੋਲਾਂ ਛਟਾਂਕ ਹੀ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਮੰਨਦਾ ਹੈ ੧੫ ਛਟਾਂਕ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੰਨਦਾ)।
Full of ego they are hollow from inside but none accepts himself imperfect (all feel they are the full measure and nothing less than it).
ਕਾਰਣੁਕਰਤੇਆਪੁਲੁਕਾਇਆ।੧੧।
ਇਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਕਿ ਸਾਰੇ) ਕਾਰਣ ਕਰਤੇ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੱਥ ਲੁਕਾਏ ਹਨ (ਹੋਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੇ ਹੱਥ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿਤੇ, ਯਥਾ:-'ਕਾਰਣੁ ਕਰਤੇ ਵਸਿ ਹੈ ਜਿਨਿ ਕਲ ਰਖੀ ਧਾਰਿ')॥
The Creator Lord Himself has concealed the reason for all this.

ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹਾਂਪਾਤਿਸਾਹੁਹੈਅਬਚਲੁਰਾਜੁਵਡੀਪਾਤਿਸਾਹੀ।
(ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ) ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਬੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਹੈ (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਉਹ) ਅਟਲ ਰਾਜ ਤੇ ਵਡੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
He (the Lord) is emperor of emperors whose rule is stable and kingdom greatly large.
ਕੇਵਡੁਤਖਤੁਵਖਾਣੀਐਕੇਵਡੁਮਹਲੁਕੇਵਡੁਦਰਗਾਹੀ।
ਕਿੱਡਾ ਕੁ ਉਸਦਾ ਰਾਜ ਸਿੰਘਾਸਣ ਵਰਣਨ ਕਰੀਏ? ਕੇਡਾਕੁ ਰਾਜ ਤੇ ਮੰਦਰ ਅਰ ਕਿੰਨੇਕੁ ਵਡੇ (ਉਸਦੇ) ਦਰਗਾਹੀ (ਸਭਾ ਸ਼ਿੰਗਾਰ) ਮੁਸਾਹਿਬ।
How big are His throne, palace and the court.
ਕੇਵਡੁਸਿਫਤਿਸਲਾਹੀਐਕੇਵਡੁਮਾਲੁਮੁਲਖੁਅਵਗਾਹੀ।
ਕੇਡੀਕੁ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਉਸਤਤਿ ਕਰੀਏ? ਕੇਡਾਕੁ ਮਾਲ ਅਰ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮੁਲਖ ਵਿਚਾਰੀਏ (ਅਥਵਾ ਗਾਹਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਹੈ)।
How should He be eulogised and how could be known the expanse of His treasure and territory?
ਕੇਵਡੁਮਾਣੁਮਹਤੁਹੈਕੇਵਡੁਲਸਕਰਸੇਵਸਿਪਾਹੀ।
ਵੱਡਾ ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪ ਕਿੰਨਾਕੁ ਆਖੀਏ ਕਿੱਡਾਕੁ ਲਸ਼ਕਰ (ਗਿਣੀਏ) ਅਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਦੇ ਸਿਪਾਹੀ (ਕਿੰਨੇਕੁ ਕਥਨ ਕਰੀਏ)। (ਹੁਣ ਪੰਜਵੀਂ ਤੇ ਛੀਵੀਂ ਤੁਕ ਵਿਖੇ ਸਾਰਾ ਸਿੱਟਾ ਦੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ:)।
How great is His grandeur and magnificence and how many soldiers and armies are there in His service?
ਹੁਕਮੈਅੰਦਰਿਸਭਕੋਕੇਵਡੁਹੁਕਮੁਨਬੇਪਰਵਾਹੀ।
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਹਨ, ਕੇਡਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਕਹੀਏ (ਭਾਵ ਅਤ੍ਯੰਤ ਹੇ, ਪਰ ਫੇਰ) (ਨ ਬੇਪਰਵਾਹੀ=) ਅਲਗਰਜ਼ੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ।
Everything is under His order is so much organised and powerful that no carelessness is there.
ਹੋਰਸੁਪੁਛਿਨਮਤਾਨਿਬਾਹੀ।੧੨।
(ਫੇਰ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਅਰ ਸੁਤੇ ਆਧਾਰ ਐਡਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਤਨੇ ਵਡੇ ਰਾਜ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧ ਹੋਰ) ਕਿਸੇ ਨਾਲ ਸਲਾਹ ਪੁੱਛਕੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ (ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਰਬ ਸਮਰੱਥ ਹੈ)।
He asks none to arrange all this.
ਪਉੜੀ੧੩
ਲਖਲਖਬ੍ਰਹਮੇਵੇਦਪੜ੍ਹਿਇਕਸਅਖਰਭੇਦੁਨਜਾਤਾ।
ਲੱਖਾਂ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੇ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਵਾਰ ਵੇਦ ਪੜ੍ਹਦੇ ਹਨ ਪਰੰਤੂ ਇਕ 'ਅੱਖਰ' (ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ) ਦਾ ਭੇਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਿਆਂ।
Even after reading lakhs of Vedas, Brahma did not understand syllable (paramatama)
ਜੋਗਧਿਆਨਮਹੇਸਲਖਰੂਪਨਰੇਖਨਭੇਖੁਪਛਾਤਾ।
ਪ੍ਰਾਣਾਯਾਮ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਸ਼ਿਵ ਧਿਆਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਪਰੰਤੂ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦਾ) ਰੂਪ ਰੇਖ ਅਰ ਭੇਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਛਾਣਿਆਂ।
Siva meditates through lakhs of methods (postures) but still could not recognise the form, hue and guise (of the Lord).
ਲਖਅਵਤਾਰਅਕਾਰਕਰਿਤਿਲੁਵੀਚਾਰੁਨਬਿਸਨਪਛਾਤਾ।
ਲੱਖਾਂ ਅਵਤਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਅਕਾਰ ਵਿਸ਼ਨੂੰ ਨੇ (ਧਾਰਨ) ਕੀਤੇ (ਪਰੰਤੂ ਉਸ ਦਾ) ਤਿਲ ਮਾਤ੍ਰ ਬੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਨਾ ਲੱਭਿਆ।
Visnu incarnated himself through lakhs of creatures but he could not recognise even a bit of that Lord.
ਲਖਲਖਨਉਤਨਨਾਉਲੈਲਖਲਖਸੇਖਵਿਸੇਖਨਤਾਤਾ।
ਕਈ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਨਾਗਾਂ ਨੇ ਕਈ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਨਵੇਂ ਥੋਂ ਨਵੇਂ ਨਾਮ (ਰੋਜ਼) ਲੈ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਭੀ ਤੱਤ ਸਾਰ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਨਾ (ਜਾਣਿਆਂ)।
Sesanag (the mythical snake) recited and remembered many a new name of the Lord but still could not know much about Him.
ਚਿਰੁਜੀਵਣੁਬਹੁਹੰਢਣੇਦਰਸਨਪੰਥਨਸਬਦੁਸਿਞਾਤਾ।
ਚਿਰੰਜੀਵੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਕਾਲ ਆਯੂ ਬੀ ਭੋਗੀ ਪਰੰਤੂ (ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਬੀ ਅਰ ਹੋਰ ਖਟ) ਦਰਸ਼ਨਾਂ, (ਬਾਰਾਂ) ਪੰਥਾ ਨੇ ਬੀ ਸ਼ਬਦ (ਬ੍ਰਹਮ) ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਛਾਤਾ।
Many long-lived persons experienced life variously, but they all and many a philosopher could not understand Sabda, the Brahma.
ਦਾਤਿਲੁਭਾਇਵਿਸਾਰਨਿਦਾਤਾ।੧੩।
ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਦਾਤ (ਮਾਇਆ) ਵਿਚ ਲੁਭਾਇਮਾਨ ਹੋਕੇ ਦਾਤੇ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਸਾਰ ਦੇਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
All got engrossed in the gifts of that Lord and that bestower has been forgotten.
ਪਉੜੀ੧੪
ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰਆਕਾਰੁਕਰਿਗੁਰਮੂਰਤਿਹੋਇਧਿਆਨਧਰਾਇਆ।
ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ('ਆਕਾਰ' ਕਹੀਏ) ਸਰੂਪ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਗੁਰ ਮੂਰਤ (ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ ਨੂੰ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਖੇ ਭੇਜਿਆ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਹੀ) ਧ੍ਯਾਨ ਧਰਵਾਇਆ।
The formless Lord assumed shape and getting established in the form of Guru made all to meditate upon Lord (here the hint is towards Guru Nanak).
ਚਾਰਿਵਰਨਗੁਰਸਿਖਕਰਿਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਸਚਖੰਡੁਵਸਾਇਆ।
(ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ) ਚਾਰ ਵਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਰੂਪ ਸੱਚ ਦਾ ਖੰਡ (ਧਰਤੀ ਉਤੇ) ਵਸਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
He accepted disciples from all the four varnas and founded the abode of treuth in the form of holy congregation.
ਵੇਦਕਤੇਬਹੁਬਾਹਰਾਅਕਥਕਥਾਗੁਰਸਬਦੁਸੁਣਾਇਆ।
ਵੇਦ ਕਤੇਬਾਂ ਥੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ ਅਕੱਥ ਜਿਸਦੀ ਕਥਾ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ) ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦਾ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਸੁਣਾਇਆ।
He explained the grandeur of that word of the Guru beyond the Vedas and the Katebas.
ਵੀਹਾਂਅੰਦਰਿਵਰਤਮਾਨੁਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਹੋਇਇਕੀਹਲਖਾਇਆ।
(ਲੋਕੀਂ ਜੋ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਧਾਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ) ਵੀਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਰਤਮਾਨ ਸਨ (ਸੰਸਾਰ ਖੱਚਤ ਸਨ, ਹੁਣ) ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਹੋਕੇ (ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਇਕ ਈਸ਼ਰ ਲਖਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
Those who indulged in scores of evils were now put to meditate upon the Lord.
ਮਾਇਆਵਿਚਿਉਦਾਸੁਕਰਿਨਾਮੁਦਾਨੁਇਸਨਾਨੁਦਿੜਾਇਆ।
ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਉਦਾਸ ਰਹਿਕੇ ਨਾਮ, ਦਾਨ ਤੇ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਦ੍ਰਿੜ੍ਹ ਕੀਤਾ।
They were kept detached amidst maya and were made to understand the importance of that holy name, charity and ablution.
ਬਾਰਹਪੰਥਇਕਤ੍ਰਕਰਿਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਗਾਡੀਰਾਹੁਚਲਾਇਆ।
(ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਜੋਗੀਆਂ ਦੇ) ਬਾਰਾਂ ਪੰਥ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਕ ਗਾਡੀ ਰਾਹ (ਅਰਥਾਤ ਪੱਧਰਾ ਤੇ ਸੁਖਾਲਾ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਦਾ ਰਾਹ ਦੱਸਿਆ।
Gathering the twelve sects together, he prepared a high path of gurmukhs.
ਪਤਿਪਉੜੀਚੜਿਨਿਜਘਰਿਆਇਆ।੧੪।
ਪਤੀ (ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਦੀ) ਪਉੜੀ ਚੜ੍ਹਕੇ ਨਿਜ ਸਰੂਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਸਥਿਤ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ।
Following that path (or order) and mounting the stairs of honour they have all stabilised in their true selves.
ਪਉੜੀ੧੫
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਮਾਰਗਿਪੈਰਧਰਿਦੁਬਿਧਾਵਾਟਕੁਵਾਟਨਧਾਇਆ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਲੋਕ (ਪੂਰਬੋਕਤ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਗਾਡੀ) ਰਾਹ ਪੁਰ ਚਲਦੇ ਹਨ, ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਦਾ ਰਸਤਾ ਖੋਟਾ ਰਸਤਾ ਹੈ, (ਉਥੇ) ਨਹੀਂ ਦੌੜਦੇ।
Following the path of being gurmukh man does not read on the wrong way of uncertainty.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਦਰਸਨੁਦੇਖਿਕੈਮਰਦਾਜਾਂਦਾਨਦਰਿਨਆਇਆ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਦੇ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਦੇਖਣ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਮਰਦਾ ਜੰਮਦਾ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ (ਉਹ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ “ਨਹ ਕਿਛੁ ਜਨਮੈ ਨਹ ਕਿਛੁ ਮਰੈ॥ ਆਪਨ ਚਲਿਤੁ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਕਰੈ”)।
After beholding the true Guru, one does not see life, death, coming and going.
ਕੰਨੀਸਤਿਗੁਰਸਬਦੁਸੁਣਿਅਨਹਦਰੁਣਝੁਣਕਾਰੁਸੁਣਾਇਆ।
ਕੰਨੀਂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੇ ਸੁਣਨ ਨਾਲ ਅਨਹਦ ਵਾਜੇ ਇਕ ਰਸ ਸੁਣਦੇ ਹਨ।
Listening to the world of true Guru he becomes attuned to the unstruck melody.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਸਰਣੀਆਇਕੈਨਿਹਚਲੁਸਾਧੂਸੰਗਿਮਿਲਾਇਆ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਣੀ ਆਕੇ ਸਾਧੂਆਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਖੇ ਅਚੱਲ ਹੋਕੇ ਮਿਲੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
Coming to the shelter of the true Guru now man absorbs in the stabilising holy congregation.
ਚਰਣਕਵਲਮਕਰੰਦਰਸਿਸੁਖਸੰਪਟਵਿਚਿਸਹਜਿਸਮਾਇਆ।
ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਚਰਣ ਕਵਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਕਰੰਦ ਰਸਿ ਨੂੰ ਸੁੱਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਡੱਬਾ ਜਾਣਕੇ ਉਸੇ ਵਿਖੇ ਭੌਰੇ ਵਾਂਗੂ ਸਮਾਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
He subsumes himself in the delight of the lotus feet.
ਪਿਰਮਪਿਆਲਾਅਪਿਉਪੀਆਇਆ।੧੫।
ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਰੂਪ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਲੇ ਨੂੰ ਪੀਕੇ ਸਦਾ ਅਲਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
Gurmukhs remain exhilarated after quaffing the hard to drink the cup of love.

ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਕਰਿਸਾਧਨਾਪਿਰਮਪਿਆਲਾਅਜਰੁਜਰਣਾ।
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਖੇ (ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਪੁਰਖਾਂ ਨੇ) ਸਾਧਨਾਂ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦਾ ਅਜਰ ਪਿਆਲਾ (ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਜਰਣਾ ਔਖਾ ਹੈ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਬੀ) ਜਰਿਆ ਹੈ।
Adopting the discipline in the holy congregation, the unbearable cup of love is drunk and endured.
ਪੈਰੀਪੈਪਾਖਾਕੁਹੋਇਆਪੁਗਵਾਇਜੀਵੰਦਿਆਂਮਰਣਾ।
(ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਉਹ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ) ਪੈਰੀਂ ਪੈਕੇ ਚਰਣ ਧੂੜ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪ ਗਵਾ ਕੇ ਜੀਵਦਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਮੋਏ ਹਨ।
Then the individual falling at the feet and eschewing ego dies in relation to all the worldly concerns.
ਜੀਵਣਮੁਕਤਿਵਖਾਣੀਐਮਰਿਮਰਿਜੀਵਣੁਡੁਬਿਡੁਬਿਤਰਣਾ।
ਜੀਵਣ ਮੁਕਤ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਖੀਦਾ ਹੈ (ਜੋ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਲੋਂ) ਮਰਕੇ (ਉਸ) ਮੌਤ ਤੋਂ (ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ਰ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਿਖੇ) ਜੀਉ ਪਏ (ਅਤੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਿਚ) ਡੁੱਬ (ਕੇ, ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚਲੇ) ਡੋਬਿਆਂ (ਤੋਂ) ਤਰ ਪਏ ਹਨ।
Liberated in life is he who dies of maya and lives up in the love of God.
ਸਬਦੁਸੁਰਤਿਲਿਵਲੀਣੁਹੋਇਅਪਿਉਪੀਅਣੁਤੈਅਉਚਰਚਰਣਾ।
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ) ਸ਼ਬਦ ਸੁਰਤ ਦੀ ਸਮਾਧੀ ਵਿਖੇ ਮਗਨ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨੂੰ ਪੀਕੇ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਦਾ ਅਭਾਵ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
Merging his consciousness in Word and quaffing the nectar he eats up his ego.
ਅਨਹਦਨਾਦਅਵੇਸਕਰਿਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਵਾਣੀਨਿਝਰੁਝਰਣਾ।
ਅਨਹਦ ਨਾਦ (ਉਹ ਸ਼ਬਦ, ਜੋ ਹਤ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਹੈ, ਸ਼ਬਦ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ) ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਪਰਵੇਸ਼ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਇਕ ਰਸ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਾਣੀ ਝਰਦੀ ਹੈ।
Inspired by the unstruck melody he always goes on pouring the word-nectar.
ਕਰਣਕਾਰਣਸਮਰਥੁਹੋਇਕਾਰਣੁਕਰਣੁਨਕਾਰਣੁਕਰਣਾ।
(ਫਲ ਇਹ ਕਿ ਓਹ ਪੁਰਖ) 'ਕਰਣ ਕਾਰਣ' ਸਮਰਥ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜੋ ਕਰਣਾ ਚਾਹੁਣ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ (ਪਰੰਤੂ) (ਆਪ ਕੁਝ) ਕਾਰਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ (ਭਾਵ ਈਸ਼੍ਵਰ ਦੇ ਭਾਣੇ ਪਰ ਭਾਈ ਭਿਖਾਰੀ ਵਾਂਙੂ ਸ਼ਾਕਰ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ)।
Now he is already cause of all the causes but still does nothing harmful to others.
ਪਤਿਤਉਧਾਰਣਅਸਰਣਸਰਣਾ।੧੬।
ਪਤਿਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਉਧਾਰ ਕਰਣੇ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਨ ਅਰ 'ਅਸਰਣ' ਕਹੀਏ। ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਸ਼ਰਣ ਨਾ ਦੇ ਸਕੇ, (ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਸ਼ਰਣ ਦੇ ਕੇ (ਮੁਕਤ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦੇ ਹਨ)।
Such a person salvages the sinners and provides shelter to the shelterless.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਭੈਵਿਚਿਜੰਮਣਾਭੈਵਿਚਿਰਹਿਣਾਭੈਵਿਚਿਚਲਣਾ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਭੈ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਜੰਮਦੇ, ਭੈ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਅਰ ਭੈ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
The gurmukhs take birth in the divine will, they remain in the divine will and move in the divine will.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਭੈਭਾਇਵਿਚਿਭਗਤਿਵਛਲੁਕਰਿਅਛਲੁਛਲਣਾ।
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਖੇ (ਦੇਵੀ) ਭੈ ਅਰ ਪ੍ਰੇਮਾ ਭਗਤੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਲੇ ਭਗਤ ਵਛਲ ਜੋ ਕਿਸੇ ਥੋਂ ਛਲਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ, ਉਸਨੂੰ ਛਲ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ਪਿਛੇ ਕਹਿ ਆਏ ਹਾਂ)।

ਜਲਵਿਚਿਕਵਲੁਅਲਿਪਤਹੋਇਆਸਨਿਰਾਸਵਲੇਵੈਵਲਣਾ।
(ਕਾਰਣ ਇਹ ਕਿ) ਆਸਾ ਥੋਂ ਨਿਰਾਸ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਜਲ ਵਿਖੇ ਕਮਲ ਦੇ ਅਲੇਪ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਂਙੂ ਧੰਦਿਆਂ ਵਿਖੇ (ਅਲੇਪ) ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਪਰੰਤੂ ਕਈ ਸੱਟਾਂ ਵਜਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਟੁੱਟਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਗੋਂ ਪੱਕੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸੋ ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟਾਂਤ ਦੇਂਦੇ ਹਨ)।
Being detached like lotus in the water they remain away from the cycle of hopes and disappointments.
ਅਹਰਣਿਘਣਹੀਰੇਜੁਗਤਿਗੁਰਮਤਿਨਿਹਚਲੁਅਟਲੁਨਟਲਣਾ।
ਅਹਿਰਣ ਅਤੇ ਵਦਾਣ ਵਿਚ ਹੀਰੇ ਦੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਅਟੱਲ ਰਹਿਕੇ ਗੁਰਮਤ ਵਿਚ ਨਿਹਚਲ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਟਲਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ (ਭਾਵ-ਹਰ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਸ਼ਟਾਂ ਤੇ ਦੁਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।

ਚਾਰ ਵਰਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਾਨ ਦੇ ਬੀੜੇ ਦੇ ਰਸ ਵਾਂਙੂ ਆਪਾ ਭਾਵ ਗੁਵਾਕੇ, ਸਾਰੇ ਮੇਲਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ ਦ੍ਵੈਤ ਭਾਵ ਕਿਸੇ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਖਦੇ)।

ਵੱਟੀ ਤੇਲ ਦੇ ਦੀਵੇ ਵਾਂਙੂ ਬਲਦੇ ਹਨ।

ਸਤੁਸੰਤੋਖੁਦਇਆਧਰਮੁਅਰਥਕਰੋੜਿਨਓੜਕੁਜਾਣੈ।
ਸਤ, ਸੰਤੋਖ, ਦਇਆ, ਧਰਮ, ਅਰਥ (ਧਨ ਆਦਿਕ ਪਦਰਥ) ਕਰੋੜਾਂ (ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ) ਓੜਕ ਕਦੀ ਨਾ ਜਾਣ ਸਕੇ।
Crores of properties such as truth, contentment, pity, dharma, lucre are there but none could know the extremity of that (pleasure-fruit).
ਚਾਰਪਦਾਰਥਆਖੀਅਨਿਹੋਇਲਖੂਣਿਨਪਲੁਪਰਵਾਣੈ।
ਅਰ ਚਾਰ ਪਦਾਰਥ (ਧਰਮ, ਅਰਥ ਕਾਮ ਅਤੇ ਮੋਖ ਕਹੀਦੇ ਹਨ (ਇਹੋ ਜੇਹੇ) ਲੱਖਾਂ ਹੀ ਵਿਦਮਾਨ ਹੋਣ (ਪਰੰਤੂ ਸਤਿਸੰਗਤ ਦੇ) ਪਲ ਮਾਤ੍ਰ (ਮਿਲਾਪ) ਦੇ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ।

ਰਿਧੀਆਂ, ਸਿਧੀਆਂ ਲੱਖ ਹੋਣ, ਲਖਾਂ ਨਿਧੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਖਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਹੋਣ (ਪਰੰਤੂ ਪੂਰਬੋਕਤ ਆਨੰਦ ਦੇ ਇਕ) ਤਿਲ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਤੁਲਦੇ।

ਦਰਸਨਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿਸੰਜੋਗਲਖਸਬਦਸੁਰਤਿਲਿਵਲਖਹੈਰਾਣੈ।
(ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ) ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟ ਦੇ ਸੰਜੋਗ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਨੂੰ ਦੇਖਕੇ (ਅਰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ) ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਸੁਰਤ ਵਿਖੇ ਸਮਾਧੀ ਨੂੰ ਦੇਖਕੇ (ਸਭ ਉਕਤ ਪਦਾਰਥ) ਹੈਰਾਨ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ।

ਗਿਆਨ, ਧਿਆਨ, ਸਿਮਰਣ ਅਨਗਿਣਤ ਭਗਤੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਜੁਗਤਾਂ (ਡੌਲਾਂ) ਲਖਕੇ (ਸਾਰੇ) ਨੇਤਿ ਨੇਤਿ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਕਿ ਸਾਥੋਂ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਆ ਸਕਦਾ)।

ਪਿਰਮਪਿਆਲਾਸਹਜਿਘਰੁਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸੁਖਫਲਚੋਜਵਿਡਾਣੈ।
ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਲਾ ਸ਼ਾਂਤਿ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਵਿਖੇ ਪੀ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਜੋ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਖ ਫਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋਇਆਹੈ (ਉਸਦਾ) ਚੋਜ ਅਚਰਜ ਰੂਪ ਹੈ।

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਤ (ਵਿਵਹਾਰਕ ਅਕਲ), ਬੁਧਿ (ਸਦਾਚਾਰ, ਨੇਕੀ ਦੀ ਅਕਲ) ਸੁਧਿ (ਗਿਆਨ ਦੀ ਅਕਲ) ('ਲਖ'=) ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਮੇਲ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ (ਅਥਵਾ ਮਤਿ, ਬੁਧ, ਸੁਧੀਆਂ ਲਖਾਂ ਹੀ ਉਕਤ ਵਿਖੇ ਮਿਲਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਭਾਵ ਏਹ ਬੀ ਉਸ ਅਨੰਦ ਦੇ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ)।

ਜਪਤਪਸੰਜਮਲਖਲਖਹੋਮਜਗਨਈਵੇਦਕਰੋੜੀ।
ਜਪ (ਪਾਠ ਕਰਨਾ), ਤਪ (ਪੰਜ ਧੂਣੀਆਂ ਆਦਿਕ), ਸੰਜਮ (ਧਾਰਨਾ, ਧ੍ਯਾਨ, ਸਮਾਧੀ) ਲੱਖਾਂ ਤੇ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਹਵਨ, ਯੱਗ, ਅਰ ਠਾਕਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਰੋੜਾਂ ਭੋਗ ਲਗਾਉਣੇ;

ਵਰਤਨੇਮਸੰਜਮਘਣੇਕਰਮਧਰਮਲਖਤੰਦੁਮਰੋੜੀ।
ਵਰਤੁ ਨੇਮੁ, ਸੰਜਮੁ (ਪ੍ਰਹੇਜ਼ਗਾਰੀ) ਬਹੁਤ ਕਰਣੇ, ਕਰਮ ਧਰਮ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਹੀ (ਕੱਚੀ) ਤੰਦ ਦੀ ਮਰੋੜੀ ਦੇ ਵਾਂਗੂੰ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ ਕੱਚੇ ਹਨ)।

(ਖਟ) ਦਰਸ਼ਨ (ਚਾਰ) ਵਰਣ ਤੇ ਅਵਰਨ (ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ) ਦੀਆਂ ਪੂਜਾ ਅਰਚਾ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨ (ਸਭੀ) ਤੋੜ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ।

ਲੋਕਵੇਦਗੁਣਗਿਆਨਲਖਜੋਗਭੋਗਲਖਝਾੜਿਪਛੋੜੀ।
ਲੋਕ ਸ਼ਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਤੇ ਵੇਦਾਂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਅਤੇ ਗਿਆਨ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਹੀ ਜੋਗ, ਅਰ ਭੋਗ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਹੀ ਝਾੜਕੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਸੁੱਟ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ।
Many are the means of public behaviour, virtues, renunciation, indulgence and other covering devices;
ਸਚਹੁਓਰੈਸਭਕਿਹੁਲਖਸਿਆਣਪਸੱਭਾਥੋੜੀ।
(ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਸਚ ਥੋਂ ਉਰੇ ਹੀ ਸਾਰੇ (ਉਕਤ ਜਪ ਤਪਾਦਿ ਹਨ), ਲਖਾਂ ਸਿਆਣਪਾਂ ਸੱਚ ਦੇ ਅਗੇ ਥੋੜੀਆਂ ਹਨ (ਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਸੱਚ ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ਹੁਣ ਛੇਕੜ ਦੀ ਅੱਠਵੀਂ ਤੁਕ ਵਿਖੇ ਹੋਰ ਪੱਕਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ)।
But all these are craftsmanship's remain away from the truth; they cannot touch it.

ਸਚ ਦਾ ਕਰਮ (ਸਭਨਾਂ ਦੇ) ਉਪਰ ਰੱਖ੍ਯਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿ ਸੱਚ ਹੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਿਰੋਮਣੀ ਕਰਮ ਹੈ ਅਥਵਾ-ਸੱਚ ਦਾ ਅਚਾਰ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉਪਰ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਜਪ ਤਪ ਇਕ 'ਚਮੋੜੀ'=ਚਮੜਾ ਜਾਂ ਚਤੁਰੰਗ ਦੀ ਸੈਨਾਂ ਹਨ)।
Higher than truth is truthful living.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਸਚਾਪਾਤਿਸਾਹੁਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਸਚੁਤਖਤੁਸੁਹੇਲਾ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ (ਗੁਰੂ ਅਰਜਨ ਦੇਵ ਜੀ) ਸਚੇ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਹਨ, ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਰੂਪੀ ਸਦਾ ਸਿੰਘਾਸਨ ਸੁਖਦਾਈ ਹੈ। (ਭਾਵ ਹੋਰ ਤਖਤਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਮਾਯਕ ਵਿਹਾਰ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਵਿਖੇ ਆਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਅਨੰਦ ਹੈ)।
The true Guru (God) is the true emperor and the holy congregation is true throne which is most delightful.
ਸਚੁਸਬਦੁਟਕਸਾਲਸਚੁਅਸਟਧਾਤੁਇਕਪਾਰਸਮੇਲਾ।
(ਸੱਚੇ) ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਟਕਸਾਲ ਸੱਚੀ ਹੈ, ਅੱਠ ਧਾਤਾਂ (ਚਾਰ ਵਰਣ ਤੇ ਚਾਰ ਆਸ਼ਰਮਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਇਕੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਪਾਰਸ ਦਾ ਮੇਲ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ ਸਭ ਨੂੰ ਕੰਚਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ)।
The true Word is such a true mint where different castes in the from of metals meet the Guru, the philosopher's stone, and become gold (gurmukhs).

ਸੱਚਾ ਅਤੇ ਅਟੱਲ (ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ) ਦਾ ਰਾਜ ਹੈ, ਸੱਚਾ ਅਤੇ ('ਨਵਹਾਣ'=) ਨਵੇਂ ਰੰਗ ਦਾ ਨਵੇਕਲਾ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਸਰੂਪ ਰੂਪੀ ਮਹਲ ਹੈ (ਅੰਤ੍ਰੀਵ ਅਰਥ ਇਹ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਸ੍ਵੈ ਸਰੂਪ ਵਿਖੇ ਬਿਰਾਜਮਾਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ)।

ਸੱਚੀ ਸਿਫਤ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਲਾਘਾ ਬੀ ਸੱਚੀ ਹੈ (ਜੋ ਉਹ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ; ਪੁਨ:) ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਵੇਲੇ ਸਚ ਦਾ ਸਲਾਹੁਣਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਭਾਵ ਤੜਕੇ ਉੱਠਕੇ ਬਾਣੀ ਪੜ੍ਹਦੇ ਹਨ ਸੱਚੇ ਰੱਬ ਦੀ)।

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਪੰਥ ਸੱਚਾ ਹੈ, ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਸੱਚਾ ਹੈ, (ਹੋਰ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਵਾਂਗੂੰ) ਆਕੜ ਨਾਲ ਗ੍ਰਸੇ ਹੋਏ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ।

ਆਸਾ ਵਿਖੇ ਨਿਰਾਸਤਾ ਦੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਚਾਲ ਹੈ, ਸੱਚਾ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਖੇਲ ਹੈ, (ਵਿਵਹਾਰ ਸੱਚਾ ਹੈ) ਮੇਲ ਭੀ ਸੱਚਾ ਮੇਲਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਨ ਦਾ ਉਪਕਾਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਤੇ ਸੱਚ ਦੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ)।
Gurmukhs remain detached among many hopes and they always play the game of truth.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸਿਖੁਗੁਰੂਗੁਰਚੇਲਾ।੨੦।
ਗੁਰਾਂ ਵਲ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਮੁਖ ਹੈ (ਅਜਿਹੇ ਸਿੱਖ) ਗੁਰੂ ਰੂਪ ਹਨ ਅਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਚੇਲਾ ਰੂਪ ਹਨ।
Such gurmukhs become Guru and the Guru becomes their disciple.
ਪਉੜੀ੨੧
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਹਉਮੈਪਰਹਰੈਮਨਿਭਾਵੈਖਸਮੈਦਾਭਾਣਾ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਲੋਕ ਹਉਮੈਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਖੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਹੀ ਚੰਗਾ ਲਗਦਾ ਹੈ।
Gurmukh repudiates ego and he likes the will of God.
ਪੈਰੀਪੈਪਾਖਾਕਹੋਇਦਰਗਹਪਾਵੈਮਾਣੁਨਿਮਾਣਾ।
(ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਦੀ) ਚਰਨੀ ਪੈਕੇ ਚਰਨ ਧੂੜ ਬਣ ਗਏ ਹਨ (ਇਸ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਇਥੇ) ਨਿਮਾਣੇ (ਹਨ, ਪਰ) ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਖੇ ਮਾਣ ਪਾਉਣਗੇ।
Becoming humble and falling at the feet he becomes dust and earns honour in the court of the Lord.
ਵਰਤਮਾਨਵਿਚਿਵਰਤਦਾਹੋਵਣਹਾਰਸੋਈਪਰਵਾਣਾ।
ਵਰਤਮਾਨ ਵਿਖੇ ਜੋ ਭਾਵੀ ਵਰਤ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ ਉਹੋ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ) ਪਰਵਾਨ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ।
He always moves in the present i.e. never ignores the contemporary situations and side by side accepts whatever is likely to happen.
ਕਾਰਣੁਕਰਤਾਜੋਕਰੈਸਿਰਿਧਰਿਮੰਨਿਕਰੈਸੁਕਰਾਣਾ।
ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਕਾਰਣ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਰ ਪਰ ਰੱਖਕੇ ਮੰਨਕੇ ਸ਼ੁਕਰੀਆ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ !
Whatever is done by the creator of all the causes, is gratefully accepted by him.
ਰਾਜੀਹੋਇਰਜਾਇਵਿਚਿਦੁਨੀਆਂਅੰਦਰਿਜਿਉਮਿਹਮਾਣਾ।
(ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ) ਰਜ਼ਾਇ ਵਿਖੇ ਰਾਜ਼ੀ ਹੋਕੇ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ (ਚਾਰ ਦਿਨ ਦੇ) ਪਰਾਹੁਣੇ (ਵਾਂਗੂੰ ਮੰਨਦੇ ਹਨ)।
He remains happy in the will of the Lord and considers himself a guest in the world.
ਵਿਸਮਾਦੀਵਿਸਮਾਦਵਿਚਿਕੁਦਰਤਿਕਾਦਰਨੋਕੁਰਬਾਣਾ।
ਅਚਰਜ ਰੂਪ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਦੇ 'ਵਿਸਮਾਦ' ਥੋਂ ਤੇ ਕਾਦਰ ਦੀ ਕੁਦਰਤ ਤੋਂ ਬਲਿਹਾਰ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
He remains elated in the love of the Lord and goes sacrificed unto the feats of the creator.
ਲੇਪਅਲੇਪਸਦਾਨਿਰਬਾਣਾ।੨੧।
(ਇਸੇ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸਾਰੇ) 'ਲੇਪਾਂ' ਥੋਂ ਅਲੇਪ ਹੋਕੇ ਨਿਰਬੰਧਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
Living in the world he remains detached and liberated.
ਪਉੜੀ੨੨
ਹੁਕਮੀਬੰਦਾਹੋਇਕੈਸਾਹਿਬੁਦੇਹੁਕਮੈਵਿਚਿਰਹਣਾ।
ਹੁਕਮ ਦਾ ਦਾਸ ਹੋ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਸ੍ਵਾਮੀ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਖੇ ਰਹੇ (ਉਹ ਬੰਦਾ ਹੈ)।
One should remain in the will of the Lord by becoming an obedient servant.
ਹੁਕਮੈਅੰਦਰਿਸਭਕੋਸਭਨਾਆਵਟਣਹੈਸਹਣਾ।
ਹੁਕਮ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸਾਰਾ (ਸੰਸਾਰ) ਹੈ, (ਭਾਣੇ ਦਾ) ਸੇਕ ਸਭ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਸਹਾਰਨਾ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
All are in His will and all have to bear the heat of the divine order.
ਦਿਲੁਦਰੀਆਉਸਮਾਉਕਰਿਗਰਬੁਗਵਾਇਗਰੀਬੀਵਹਣਾ।
(ਇਸ ਲਈ) ਦਿਲ (ਨੂੰ) ਦਰਿਆਉ (ਕਰਕੇ) (ਸਭ ਸੇਕਾਂ ਦੀ) ਸਮਾਈ ਕਰੇ, ਹੰਕਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡਕੇ ਗਰੀਬੀ ਵਿਖੇ ਚਲਣਾ ਕਰੇ।
Man should make his heart a river and let the water of humility flow into it.
ਵੀਹਇਕੀਹਉਲੰਘਿਕੈਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਸਿੰਘਾਸਣਿਬਹਣਾ।
('ਵੀਹ') ਲੋਕ ('ਇਕੀਹ') ਪਰਲੋਕ (ਦੀ ਇੱਛਾ ਥੋਂ) ਲੰਘ ਕੇ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਰੂਪ ਸਿੰਘਾਸਣ ਵਿਚ ਬੈਠੇ (ਭਾਵ ਨਿਸ਼ਕਾਮ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰੇ)।
Leaving the worldly activities one should sit on the throne of holy congregation.
ਸਬਦੁਸੁਰਤਿਲਿਵਲੀਣੁਹੋਇਅਨਭਉਅਘੜਘੜਾਏਗਹਣਾ।
ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਸੁਰਤ ਵਿਖੇ ਮਗਨ ਹੋਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਗ੍ਯਾਨ ਨਾਲ ਅਘੜ (ਮਨ ਦਾ ਜੋ) ('ਗਹਿਣਾ'=) ਗ੍ਰਹਿਣ ਕਰਣਾ ਹੈ, (ਇਹੋ ਗਹਿਣਾ) ਘੜਾਵੇ (ਇਥੇ ਗਹਿਣਾ ਪਦ ਵਿਖੇ ਸ਼ਲੇਖਾਲੰਕਾਰ ਹੈ, ਪਕੜਨਾ ਤੇ ਜ਼ੇਵਰ)।
Merging consciousness in the Word, one should get the ornament of fearlessness prepared.
ਸਿਦਕਸਬੂਰੀਸਾਬਤਾਸਾਕਰੁਸੁਕਰਿਨਦੇਣਾਲਹਣਾ।
ਭਰੋਸੇ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਤੋਖ ਵਿਖੇ ਸਾਬਤ ਰਹੇ, (ਹਰ ਬਾਤ ਵਿਚ) ਸ਼ੁਕਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਰਹੇ, ਦੇਣਾ ਲੈਣਾ (ਸਿਵਾਇ) ਸ਼ੁਕਰ ਦੇ (ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਾ ਕਰੇ)।
One should remain true in faith and contentment; the transaction of thankfulness should be kept to continue and one should remain away from worldly give and take.
ਨੀਰਿਨਡੁਬਣੁਅਗਿਨਦਹਣਾ।੨੨।
(ਐਸੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਨੂੰ) ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਡੁੱਬਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਤੇ ਅੱਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਾੜ ਨਹੀਂ, (ਯਥਾ-”ਜਲ ਅਗਨੀ ਵਿਚ ਘਤਿਆ ਜਲੈ ਨ ਡੁਬੈ ਗੁਰਪਰਸਾਦਿ”)। (ਅਥਵਾ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਾਣੀ, ਅਰ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਜਾਂ ਈਰਖਾ ਦੀ ਅੱਗ ਐਸੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੋਂਹਦੇ)।
Such a person neither drowns in water (of maya) nor gets burnt in the fire (of desire).
ਪਉੜੀ੨੩
ਮਿਹਰਮੁਹਬਤਿਆਸਕੀਇਸਕੁਮੁਸਕੁਕਿਉਲੁਕੈਲੁਕਾਇਆ।
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ) ਮਿਹਰ (ਤੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਦੀ) ਮੁਹੱਬਤ, ਇਸ਼ਕ (ਦੇ ਦਰਜੇ ਦੀ ਅਰਥਾਤ ਉੱਚੀ) ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਲੁਕਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਨਹੀਂ, (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਕਹਾਵਤ ਹੈ 'ਇਸ਼ਕ ਮੁਸ਼ਕ ਖਾਂਸੀ ਖੁਰਕ ਲੁਕਾਇਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੁਕਦੇ')।
Kindness, affection, passionate love and smell do not remain concealed even if they are hidden and of their own get manifested.
ਚੰਦਨਵਾਸੁਵਣਾਸਪਤਿਹੋਇਸੁਗੰਧੁਨਆਪੁਗਣਾਇਆ।
(ਜਿਕੂੰ) ਚੰਦਨ ਦੀ ਵਾਸ਼ਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਵਣਾਸਪਤੀ (ਚੰਦਨ) ਹੋਕੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪ ਜਣਾਉਂਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ, (ਪ੍ਰੰਤੂ ਵਾਸ਼ਨਾਂ ਥੋਂ ਹੀ ਚੰਦਨ ਜਾਪਦੀ ਹੈ)।
Sandal makes the whole vegetation fragrant and never makes it self noticed (but still people come to know that).
ਨਦੀਆਂਨਾਲੇਗੰਗਮਿਲਿਹੋਇਪਵਿਤੁਨਆਖਿਸੁਣਾਇਆ।
ਨਦੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਨਾਲੇ ਗੰਗਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਕੇ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਪਰ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਆਖਕੇ ਟਾਹਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਾਰਦੇ (ਕਿ ਅਸੀ ਭੀ ਹੁਣ ਗੰਗਾ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਾਂ)।
Rivers and streams meet the Ganges and silently become pure without any announcement.
ਹੀਰੇਹੀਰਾਬੇਧਿਆਅਣੀਕਣੀਹੋਇਰਿਦੈਸਮਾਇਆ।
ਹੀਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੀਰਾ ਵਿੰਨ੍ਹਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਪਰ ਜਦ ਵਰਮੇ ਦੀ) 'ਅਣੀ' ਪੁਰ ਹੀਰੇ ਦੀ ਕਣੀ ਰਿਦੇ ਵਿਖੇ ਸਮਾਇ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, (ਅੰਤ੍ਰੀਵ) ਅਰਥ ਇਹ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਜੀਭ ਰੂਪੀ ਵਰਮੇ ਦੀ ਅਣੀ ਪਰ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਕਣੀ ਰੱਖਕੇ ਜੱਗ੍ਯਾਸੂ ਨੂੰ ਵਿੰਨ੍ਹ ਦੇਂਦੇ ਹਨ, 'ਯਥਾ:-”ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਕੋਟਿ ਉਧਾਰਦਾ ਭਾਈ ਦੇ ਨਾਵੈ ਏਕ ਕਣੀ”)।
The diamond is cut by the diamond and the cutter diamond looks as if it has adopted the other diamond in its heart (likewise the Guru also cutting the mind of disciple gives place to him in his own heart).
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਮਿਲਿਸਾਧਹੋਇਪਾਰਸਮਿਲਿਪਾਰਸਹੋਇਆਇਆ।
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਕੇ ਸਾਧ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਮਾਨੋਂ) ਪਾਰਸ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਕੇ ਪਾਰਸ ਰੂਪ ਹੀ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
The disciple of the Guru becomes such a sadhu in the holy congregation as if someone becomes philosopher's stone after touching the philosopher's stone.
ਨਿਹਚਉਨਿਹਚਲੁਗੁਰਮਤੀਭਗਤਿਵਛਲੁਹੋਇਅਛਲੁਛਲਾਇਆ।
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਅਚਲ ਮੱਤਿ ਨੂੰ ਨਿਹਚੇ ਨਾਲ ਪਾਕੇ (ਆਪ ਅਚਲ ਭਗਤੀ ਵਾਲਾ) ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਭਗਤ ਵਛਲ ਹੋਣ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਅਛਲ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਛਲਾਇਆ ਹੈ।
With the steadfast teaching of the Guru, the mind of the Sikh becomes peaceful and God also becoming affectionate towards the devotee gets deluded.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸੁਖਫਲੁਅਲਖੁਲਖਾਇਆ।੨੩।੧੮।ਅਠਾਰਾਂ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਖ ਰੂਪੀ ਫਲ (ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਰੂਪ ਇਹ ਕਿ) ਅਲੱਖ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਨਿਜ ਨੂੰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਪਰ) ਲਖਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
Getting a sight of the imperceptible Lord is the pleasure-fruit for the gurmukhs.
