(ਸਤਿਗੁਰ=ਗੁਰ ਨਾਨਕ। ਸਿਰੰਦਾ=ਰਚਨਹਾਰ। ਵਸੰਦਾ=ਵਸਾਉਣਹਾਰਾ। ਦੋਹੀ=ਦੁਹਾਈ, (ਅ) ਚੋਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਵੀਹ=ਵੀਹ ਵਿਸਵੇ, ਨਿਸਚੇ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਇਕੀਹ=ਇਕ ਦੀ ਈਹਾ ਵਾਲਾ।)
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਸਚਾਪਾਤਿਸਾਹੁਪਾਤਿਸਾਹਾਪਾਤਿਸਾਹੁਸਿਰੰਦਾ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ (ਨਾਨਕ) ਸੱਚਾ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਹੈ (ਤੇ) ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਰਚਣਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ।
The true Guru is true emperor and He is creator of the emperor of the emperors.
ਸਚੈਤਖਤਿਨਿਵਾਸੁਹੈਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਸਚਖੰਡਿਵਸੰਦਾ।
ਸੱਚੇ ਤਖਤ (ਰਾਜ ਸਿੰਘਾਸਨ) ਪੁਰ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਹੈ, ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਰੂਪ ਸੱਚ ਖੰਡ ਦਾ ਵਸਾਉਣ ਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ।
He sits on the throne of truth and resides in holy congregation, the abode of truth.
ਸਚੁਫੁਰਮਾਣੁਨੀਸਾਣੁਸਚੁਸਚਾਹੁਕਮੁਨਮੂਲਿਫਿਰੰਦਾ।
ਸੱਚਾ ਫੁਰਮਾਣ (ਆਗਿਆ) ਹੈ (ਨੀਸਾਣ=) ਝੰਡਾ ਬੀ ਸੱਚਾ ਹੈ, ਹੁਕਮ ਵੀ ਸੱਚਾ ਕਦੇ ਮੁੜਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ।
Truth is His mark and truth He utters and His command is irrefutable.
ਸਚੁਸਬਦੁਟਕਸਾਲਸਚੁਗੁਰਤੇਗੁਰਹੁਇਸਬਦਮਿਲੰਦਾ।
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਅਰ ਟਕਸਾਲ ਸੱਚ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਗੁਰ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਅਰਥਾਤ ਗੁਰੂ ਅੰਗਦ ਗੁਰੂ ਅਮਰ ਆਦਿਕ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਬਦ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਚਲੇ ਆਏ)।
He whose Word is true and whose treasure is true, is attainable in the form of the word of the Guru.
ਸਚੀਭਗਤਿਭੰਡਾਰਸਚੁਰਾਗਰਤਨਕੀਰਤਨੁਭਾਵੰਦਾ।
ਸੱਚੀ ਭਗਤੀ' (ਸੇਵਾ) ਅਰ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ ਬੀ ਸਚਾ ਹੈ; ਰਾਗ ਰਤਨ (ਰੂਪ) ਦਾ ਕੀਰਤਨ (ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ) ਭਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
His devotion is true, His warehouse is true and He likes love and praise.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸਚਾਪੰਥੁਹੈਸਚੁਦੋਹੀਸਚੁਰਾਜੁਕਰੰਦਾ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਸੱਚਾ ਰਸਤਾ ਹੈ, (ਸੱਚੀ 'ਦੋਹੀ' ਅਰਥਾਤ) ਡੌਂਡੀ ਬੀ ਸੱਚੀ ਹੈ (ਅਥਵਾ 'ਸਚ ਦੋਹੀਂ=ਸੱਚ ਦਾ ਚੋਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਭਾਵ ਨਿਤਾਰਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਅਰ) ਸਚਾ ਰਾਜ ਕਰਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ ਨ੍ਯਾਇਕਾਰੀ ਹੈ)।
The way of the gurmukhs is also true, their slogan is truth and their kingdom is also the kingdom of truth.
ਵੀਹਇਕੀਹਚੜ੍ਹਾਉਚੜ੍ਹੰਦਾ।੧।
ਵੀਹ ਵਿਸਵੇ (ਅਥਵਾ 'ਵੀਹ' ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਖੇ 'ਇਕੀਹ') ਇਕ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ਰ ਹੈ ('ਚੜ੍ਹਾਉ'=) ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਚੜ੍ਹਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
The treader on this path, crossing the world goes on to meet the Lord.
ਪਉੜੀ੨
ਗੁਰਪਰਮੇਸਰੁਜਾਣੀਐਸਚੇਸਚਾਨਾਉਧਰਾਇਆ।
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ਰ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣੀਏਂ, (ਆਪ) ਸੱਚਾ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਨਾਮ ਬੀ ਸੱਚਾ ਧਰਾਇਆ ਹੈ।
The Guru ought to be known as the Supreme Lord because only that true being has adopted the true name (of the Lord).
ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੁਆਕਾਰੁਹੋਇਏਕੰਕਾਰੁਅਪਾਰੁਸਦਾਇਆ।
ਅਪਾਰ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਨੇ ('ਅਕਾਰ') ਸਰੂਪ ਧਾਰਕੇ 'ਏਕੰਕਾਰ' ਕਹਾਇਆ।
The formless Lord has made His self known in the form of Ekaiikar, the one boundless Being.
ਏਕੰਕਾਰਹੁਸਬਦਧੁਨਿਓਅੰਕਾਰਿਅਕਾਰੁਬਣਾਇਆ।
ਏਕੰਕਾਰ ਤੋਂ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਧੁਨੀ ਹੋਈ ਤੇ ਓਅੰਕਾਰ ਦਾ ਸਰੂਪ ਬਣਾਇਆ।
From Ekanka came up Oankar, the Word vibration which further came to be known as the world, full of names and forms.
ਇਕਦੂਹੋਇਤਿਨਿਦੇਵਤਿਹੁਂਮਿਲਿਦਸਅਵਤਾਰਗਣਾਇਆ।
(ਫੇਰ) ਇਕ ਤੋਂ ਤਿੰਨ ਦੇਵਤੇ ਰਚੇ ਗਏ, ਫੇਰ ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਮਿਲਕੇ ਦਸ ਅਵਤਾਰ ਗਣਾਇਆ।
From the one Lord came out three gods (Brahma-, Visnu and Mahes'a) who further got themselves counted among the ten incarnations (of the supreme Being).
ਆਦਿਪੁਰਖੁਆਦੇਸੁਹੈਓਹੁਵੇਖੈਓਨ੍ਹਾਨਦਰਿਨਆਇਆ।
ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ) ਦੇਸ਼ ਕਾਲ ਵਸਤੂ ਦੇ ਭੇਦ ਤੋਂ ਰਹਿਤ ਹੈ, ਓਹ ਤਾਂ ਓਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ (ਪਰੰਤੂ ਅਵਤਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਓਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾਂ ਨਜ਼ਰੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ।
I salute this primal Being who sees them all but is Himself invisible.
ਸੇਖਨਾਗਸਿਮਰਣੁਕਰੈਨਾਵਾਅੰਤੁਬਿਅੰਤੁਨਪਾਇਆ।
ਸ਼ੇਸ਼ਨਾਗ (ਹਜ਼ਰ ਨਾਉਂ) ਰੋਜ਼ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਬਿਅੰਤ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ।
The mythical snake (Sesanag) recites and remembers Him through His myriad names but even then knows nothing about His ultimate extent.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸਚੁਨਾਉਮਨਿਭਾਇਆ।੨।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਖੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸੱਚਾ ਨਾਮ ਭਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
The true name of same Lord is loved by gurmukhs.

ਅੰਬਰੁਧਰਤਿਵਿਛੋੜਿਅਨੁਕੁਦਰਤਿਕਰਿਕਰਤਾਰਕਹਾਇਆ।
(ਈਸ਼੍ਵਰ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ) ਕੁਦਰਤ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਅਕਾਸ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਧਰਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡਿਆ, (ਰਚਣ ਹਾਰ ਹੋਣ ਕਰਕੇ) ਕਰਤਾਰ ਕਹਾਯਾ।
God has stabilized earth and sky separately and for His this power He is known as the creator.
ਧਰਤੀਅੰਦਰਿਪਾਣੀਐਵਿਣੁਥੰਮਾਂਆਗਾਸੁਰਹਾਇਆ।
ਪਾਣੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਧਰਤੀ ਰਚੀ ਹੈ (ਚੌਫੇਰੇ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ, ਧਰਤੀ ੧ ਹਿੱਸਾ, ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ੩ ਹਿੱਸੇ ਹੈ) ਅਕਾਸ਼ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਆਸਰੇ ਰਖਿਆ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ ਜਿੱਕੁਰ ਜੀਵ ਜੰਤੂ ਬਨਸਪਤੀ ਪਾਣੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਦੇ ਆਸਰੇ ਹਨ, ਪੌਣ ਭੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਦੇ ਆਸਰੇ ੪੫ ਕੁ ਮੀਲ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਗਿਰਦ ਤਕ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਅਕਾਸ਼ ਤਤ ਆਸਰੇ ਸਿਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ, ਓਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਸਰਿਆ
He has settled earth in water and without props the sky He has placed in a stable position.
ਇੰਨ੍ਹਣਅੰਦਰਿਅਗਿਧਰਿਅਹਿਨਿਸਿਸੂਰਜੁਚੰਦੁਉਪਾਇਆ।
ਬਾਲਣ ਵਿਖੇ ਅੱਗ ਰੱਖੀ ਹੈ, ਦਿਨ (ਦੇ ਚਾਨਣ ਲਈ) ਸੂਰਜ (ਅਰ) ਰਾਤ ਦੇ (ਚਾਨਣ ਲਈ) ਚੰਦ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।
Putting fire in the fuel He has created sun and moon shining day and night.
ਛਿਅਰੁਤਿਬਾਰਹਮਾਹਕਰਿਖਾਣੀਬਾਣੀਚਲਤੁਰਚਾਇਆ।
ਬਾਰਾਂ ਮਹੀਨਿਆਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਛੀ ਰੁਤਾਂ (ਦੋ ਦੋ ਮਹੀਨਿਆਂ ਦੀਆਂ) ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਚਾਰ) ਖਾਣੀ (ਅਰ ਚਾਰ ਹੀ) ਬਾਣੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਕੌਤਕ ਰਚਿਆ ਹੈ।
Making six seasons and twelve months He has undertaken the sport of creating four mines and four speeches.
ਮਾਣਸਜਨਮੁਦੁਲੰਭੁਹੈਸਫਲੁਜਨਮੁਗੁਰੁਪੂਰਾਪਾਇਆ।
(ਪਰੰਤੂ ਸਾਰੀ ਰਚਨਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਮਾਣਸ ਜਨਮ ਦੁਰਲੱਭ ਹੈ (ਫੇਰ ਉਹ ਦੁਰਲੱਭ ਜਨਮ ਤਾਂ) ਸੁਫਲ ਹੈ ਜੇ ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ('ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ') ਪਾਇਆ ਹੈ।
Human life is rare and whosoever has found the perfect Gum, his life has become blessed.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਮਿਲਿਸਹਜਿਸਮਾਇਆ।੩।
(ਉਹ) ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਕੇ ਸਹਿਜ (ਪਦ ਵਿਖੇ) ਸਮਾ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਜੀਵਨ ਮੁਕਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ)।
Meeting the holy congregation man is absorbed in equipoise.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁਸਚੁਦਾਤਾਰੁਹੈਮਾਣਸਜਨਮੁਅਮੋਲੁਦਿਵਾਇਆ।
“ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ” ਜੀ ਸੱਚੇ ਦਾਨੀ ਹਨ (ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ) ਅਮੋਲਕ ਮਾਨਸ ਜਨਮ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਦਿਵਾਇਆ ਹੈ।
The true Guru is truly benevolent as he has granted us the human life.
ਮੂਹੁਅਖੀਨਕੁਕੰਨੁਕਰਿਹਥਪੈਰਦੇਚਲੈਚਲਾਇਆ।
ਮੂੰਹ, ਅੱਖਾਂ, ਨੱਕ, ਕੰਨ, ਆਦਿ (ਗਿਆਨ ਇੰਦ੍ਰਯ) ਹੱਥ ਪੈਰ ਆਦਿ (ਕਰਮ ਇੰਦ੍ਰਯ ਦਿਤੇ ਹਨ) (ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ) ਚਲਣ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਜੀਵ) ਚਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
Mouth, eyes, nose, ears He created and has given feet so that the individual could move around.
ਭਾਉਭਗਤਿਉਪਦੇਸੁਕਰਿਨਾਮੁਦਾਨੁਇਸਨਾਨੁਦਿੜਾਇਆ।
ਪ੍ਰੇਮਾ ਭਗਤੀ ਦਾ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦੇਕੇ ਨਾਮਦਾਨ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਪੱਕਾ ਕਰਾਇਆ ਹੈ।
Preaching loving devotion, the true Guru has bestowed on the people steadfastness in remembering the Lord, ablution and charity.
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਵੇਲੈਨਾਵਣਾਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਜਪੁਗੁਰਮੰਤੁਜਪਾਇਆ।
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਤ ਵੇਲੇ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ 'ਗੁਰ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ' (ਅਰਥਾਤ) ਜਪੁਜੀ ਦਾ ਪਾਠ ਜਪਾਇਆ ਹੈ।
In ambrosial hours the gurmukhs undertake to inspire themselves and others to bathe and recite the mantra of the Guru.
ਰਾਤਿਆਰਤੀਸੋਹਿਲਾਮਾਇਆਵਿਚਿਉਦਾਸੁਰਹਾਇਆ।
ਰਾਤ ਨੂੰ (ਸੌਣ ਵੇਲੇ) ਆਰਤੀ ਸੋਹਲੇ (ਦਾ ਪਾਠ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਹੈ) ਮਾਯਾ ਵਿਖੇ ਰਹਿਕੇ ਉਦਾਸ (ਬ੍ਰਿਤੀ ਰੱਖਣੀ ਦੱਸੀ) ਹੈ।
In the evening, instructing the recitation of Arati and Sohild, the true Guru has inspired people to remain detached even amidst maya.
ਮਿਠਾਬੋਲਣੁਨਿਵਿਚਲਣੁਹਥਹੁਦੇਇਨਆਪੁਗਣਾਇਆ।
ਮਿੱਠਾ ਬੋਲਣਾ, ਨਿੰਮ੍ਰੀ ਹੋਕੇ ਚੱਲਣਾ, ਹੱਥੋਂ ਦੇਕੇ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਨ ਕਰਨਾ (ਇਤ੍ਯਾਦਿਕ ਸਿੱਖੀ ਦੇ ਮੂਲ ਦ੍ਰਿੜ੍ਹ ਕਰਾਏ ਹਨ, ਫਲ ਕੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।)
The Guru has preached people to speak mildly, to conduct themselves humbly and to not to get noticed even after giving something to others.
ਚਾਰਿਪਦਾਰਥਪਿਛੈਲਾਇਆ।੪।
(ਧਰਮ, ਅਰਥ ਕਾਮ, ਮੋਖ) ਚਾਰੇ ਪਦਾਰਥ (ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ) ਪਿਛੇ ਲਾ ਛੱਡੇ ਹਨ।
This way the true Guru has made all the four ideals (dharma, arch, Wm and moks) of life to follow him.
ਪਉੜੀ੫
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁਵਡਾਆਖੀਐਵਡੇਦੀਵਡੀਵਡਿਆਈ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ (ਸਾਰੇ) ਵੱਡਾ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ) ਵੱਡੇ (ਗੁਰੂ) ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਵੱਡੀ ਹੈ।
The true Guru is called great and the glory of the great is also great.
ਓਅੰਕਾਰਿਅਕਾਰੁਕਰਿਲਖਦਰੀਆਉਨਕੀਮਤਿਪਾਈ।
ਓਅੰਕਾਰ ਨੇ ਆਕਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ, (ਜਿਸ ਵਿਖੇ) 'ਲੱਖਾਂ ਦਰਿਆਉ' (ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾਦਿਕ ਦੇਵਤੇ ਹੋਣ ਕਰ) ਕੀਮਤ (ਕਿਸੇ) ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਈ।
Oankar has assumed the form of the world and millions of life-streams could not know about His grandeur.
ਇਕਵਰਭੰਡੁਅਖੰਡੁਹੈਜੀਅਜੰਤਕਰਿਰਿਜਕੁਦਿਵਾਈ।
ਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡ ਵਿਖੇ 'ਅਖੰਡ' (ਇਕ ਰਸ) ਇਕੋ ਹੈ (ਜੋ) ਜੀਵ ਜੰਤ (ਉਤਪਤ) ਕਰ ਕੇ ਰਿਜਕ ਦੇ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
The One Lord uninterruptedly is pervading the whole universe and provides livelihood to all creatures.
ਲੂੰਅਲੂੰਅਵਿਚਿਰਖਿਓਨੁਕਰਿਵਰਭੰਡਕਰੋੜਿਸਮਾਈ।
ਇਕ ਇਕ ਰੋਮ ਵਿਖੇ ਕਰੋੜ ਕਰੋੜ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡ ਦੀ ਸਮਾਈ ਕਰ ਛੱਡੀ ਹੈ।
That Lord has subsumed crores of universes in His each trichome.
ਕੇਵਡੁਵਡਾਆਖੀਐਕਵਣਥਾਉਕਿਸੁਪੁਛਾਂਜਾਈ।
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੇਡਾ ਕੁ ਵੱਡਾ ਆਖੀਏ, ਕਿਸ ਥਾਉਂ (ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ), ਕਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਪੁੱਛੀਏ (“ਕੇਵਡੁ ਵਡਾ ਡੀਠਾ ਹੋਇ”)।
How His expanse may be explained and whom should one ask as to where He resides.
ਅਪੜਿਕੋਇਨਹੰਘਈਸੁਣਿਸੁਣਿਆਖਣਆਖਿਸੁਣਾਈ।
(ਉਸ ਦੇ ਦੇਖਣ ਨੂੰ) ਕੋਈ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ (ਲੋਕ) ਅਖਾਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਣ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਪਏ ਸੁਣਾਂਵਦੇ ਹਨ।
None can reach Him; all talk about Him is on the basis of hearsay.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁਮੂਰਤਿਪਰਗਟੀਆਈ।੫।
(ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੀ) ਮੂਰਤੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ (ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ) ਵਿਖੇ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਦਿਖਾਈ ਦਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ “ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਧ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭੇਦੁ ਨ ਭਾਈ”॥ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਦਾ ਅਭ੍ਯਾਸ ਪ੍ਰਤਖ੍ਯ ਈਸ਼੍ਵਰ ਦਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਹੈ)।
That Lord has become manifest in the form of the true Guru.

ਧਿਆਨੁਮੂਲੁਗੁਰਦਰਸਨੋਪੂਰਨਬ੍ਰਹਮੁਜਾਣਿਜਾਣੋਈ।
ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ (ਸਭ) ਧਿਆਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਮੂਲ ਹੈ, (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ) -ਪੂਰਨ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ (ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ) ਹਨ, ਜਾਣਨਹਾਰਾ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ (ਅਥਵਾ “ਜਾਣੋਈ” ਜਾਣਨੇਹਾਰੇ ਹਨ, ਕਰਤਾ ਰੂਪ ਹਨ)।
The glimpse of the Guru is the basis of meditation because Guru is Brahm and this fact is known to a rare one.
ਪੂਜਮੂਲਸਤਿਗੁਰੁਚਰਣਕਰਿਗੁਰਦੇਵਸੇਵਸੁਖਹੋਈ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ (ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ) ਦੇ ਚਰਣ ਪੂਜਾ ਦੇ ਮੂਲ ਹਨ (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਇਸੇ ਵਿਚ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਪੂਜਾ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਤਾਂਤੇ) ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਵਿਖੇ ਹੀ ਸੁਖ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
The feet of true Guru, the root of all delights, should be worshipped and only then the delight would be atttained.
ਮੰਤ੍ਰਮੂਲੁਸਤਿਗੁਰੁਬਚਨਇਕਮਨਿਹੋਇਅਰਾਧੈਕੋਈ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਬਚਨ ਸਾਰੇ ਮੰਤ੍ਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਮੂਲ ਹੈ (ਪਰੰਤੂ ਫਲ ਤਦ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ) ਜਦ ਕੋਈ ਇਕਾਗ੍ਰ ਮਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਅਰਾਧਨ ਕਰੇ।
The instructions of the true Guru is the basic formula (mantra) whose adoration with single minded devotion is undertaken by rare one.
ਮੋਖਮੂਲੁਕਿਰਪਾਗੁਰੂਜੀਵਨੁਮੁਕਤਿਸਾਧਸੰਗਿਸੋਈ।
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਦਾ ਮੂਲ ਹੈ, ਜੀਵਨ ਮੁਕਤ ਰੂਪ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਸੋਈ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ ਜਿਸ ਪੁਰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ)।
The basis of liberation is the grace of the Guru and one attains liberation in life in the holy congregation alone.
ਆਪੁਗਣਾਇਨਪਾਈਐਆਪੁਗਵਾਇਮਿਲੈਵਿਰਲੋਈ।
(ਪਰੰਤੂ ਗੁਰੂ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ) ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪ ਗਣਾਉਣ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਈਦੀ; ਹੰਕਾਰ ਛੱਡਕੇ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਹੀ (ਗੁਰੂ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ) ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
Making oneself noticed none can attain the Lord and even shedding the ego any rare one meets Him.
ਆਪੁਗਵਾਏਆਪਹੈਸਭਕੋਆਪਿਆਪੇਸਭੁਕੋਈ।
ਹੰਕਾਰ ਛਡਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਸ਼ੁੱਧ) ਆਪ (ਉਨਮਨ) ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਤੇ) ਸਭ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਰੂਪ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਰ ਸਭ ਕੋਈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਹੀ ਰੂਪ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ ਸਾਰੇ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ “ਫਰੀਦਾ ਜੇ ਤੂ ਮੇਰਾ ਹੋਇ ਰਹਹਿ ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੋਇ”)॥
He who annihilates his ego, in fact, is the Lord Himself; he knowns everyone as his form and all accept him as their form.
ਗੁਰੁਚੇਲਾਚੇਲਾਗੁਰੁਹੋਈ।੬।
(ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਗੁਰੂ (ਨਾਨਕ) ਚੇਲਾ ਤੇ ਚੇਲਾ (ਅੰਗਦ) ਗੁਰੂ ਹੋਏ।
This way that individual in the form of Guru becomes disciple and the disciple is turned to be Guru.
ਪਉੜੀ੭
ਸਤਿਜੁਗਪਾਪਕਮਾਣਿਆਇਕਸਪਿਛੈਦੇਸੁਦੁਖਾਲਾ।
ਸਤਿਜੁਗ ਵਿਖੇ ਜੋ ਪਾਪ ਕਰਦਾ ਸੀ ਉਸ ਇਕ ਪਿਛੇ ਸਾਰਾ ਦੇਸ਼ ਦੁਖੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਸੀ।
In satyug, the whole country suffered due to the evil deeds of even one individual.
ਤ੍ਰੇਤੈਨਗਰੀਪੀੜੀਐਦੁਆਪੁਰਿਪਾਪੁਵੰਸੁਕੋਦਾਲਾ।
ਤ੍ਰੇਤੇ ਜੁਗ ਵਿਖੇ (ਇੱਕ ਦੇ ਪਾਪ ਨਾਲ) ਸਾਰੀ ਨਗਰੀ ਪੀੜੀਦੀ ਸੀ, ਦੁਆਪਰ ਦਾ ਪਾਪ ਸਾਰੀ 'ਵੰਸ' (ਪੀਹੜੀ) ('ਦਾਲਾ') ਦਲਦਾ ਸੀ (ਅਥਵਾ ਵੰਸ ਦਾ ਕੌਦਾਲਾ=ਕੁਹਾੜਾ ਸੀ)।
In tretayug, the evil committed by one, made the whole city suffer and in dvapar the whole family underwent the pains.
ਕਲਿਜੁਗਿਬੀਜੈਸੋਲੁਣੈਵਰਤੈਧਰਮਨਿਆਉਸੁਖਾਲਾ।
ਕਲਿਜੁਗ ਵਿਖੇ ਜਿਹਾ ਕੋਈ ਬੀਜੇ ਤੇਹਾ ਕੱਟਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸੌਖਾ ਧਰਮ ਨਿਆਉਂ ਵਰਤ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
Simple is the justice of kaliyug; here only he reaps who sows.
ਫਲੈਕਮਾਣਾਤਿਹੁਜੁਗੀਂਕਲਿਜੁਗਿਸਫਲੁਧਰਮੁਤਤਕਾਲਾ।
ਕਰਮ ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਜੁਗਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਫਲਦਾ ਸੀ (ਭਾਵ ਇਕ ਜੁਗ ਦੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਸ਼ੁਭ ਕਰਮ ਦਾ ਫਲ ਦੂਜੇ ਜੁਗ ਵਿਖੇ ਚਿਰਾਕਾ ਫਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਸੀ) ਪਰੰਤੂ ਕਲਿਜੁਗ ਵਿਖੇ ਧਰਮ ਤਤਕਾਲ ਫਲ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਦੂਜੀ ਹੋਰ ਗਲ ਚੰਗੀ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਪੰਜਵੀਂ ਤੁਕ ਵਿਖੇ ਦੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ)।
In other three yugs, the fruit of the action was earned and accumulated but in kaliyug, one gets the fruit of dharma immediately.
ਪਾਪਕਮਾਣੈਲੇਪੁਹੈਚਿਤਵੈਧਰਮਸੁਫਲੁਫਲਵਾਲਾ।
ਪਾਪ ਦੇ ਲੇਪ, ਫੰਤਿਆਂ ਹੋਇਆਂ ਹੀ ਲਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਰ ਧਰਮ ਚਿਤਵਣ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਫਲ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Somethin* happens only after doing something in the kaliyug but even the thought of dharma gives the happy fruit in it.
ਭਾਇਭਗਤਿਗੁਰਪੁਰਬਕਰਿਬੀਜਨਿਬੀਜੁਸਚੀਧਰਮਸਾਲਾ।
ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮਾ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਿਖ ਸੱਚੀ ਧਰਮਸਾਲ (ਸਚੀ ਧਰਮ ਦੀ ਥਾਉਂ) ਵਿਖੇ ਗੁਰਪੁਰਬ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਬੀਜ ਨੂੰ ਬੀਜਦੇ ਹਨ।
The gurmukhs, contemplating on the wisdom of Guru and the loving devotion, sow the seed in earth, the true abode of truth.
ਸਫਲਮਨੋਰਥਪੂਰਣਘਾਲਾ।੭।
(ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ) ਮਨੋਰਥ ਸਫਲ (ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਰ ਘਾਲ) ਕਮਾਈ ਥਾਉਂ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
They succeed in their practice and objective.
ਪਉੜੀ੮
ਸਤਿਜੁਗਿਸਤਿਤ੍ਰੇਤੈਜੁਗਾਦੁਆਪਰਿਪੂਜਾਬਹਲੀਘਾਲਾ।
ਸਤਿਜੁਗ ਵਿਖੇ 'ਸਤਿ' (ਸਚ ਬੋਲਣ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੁਕਤ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਸਨ) ਤ੍ਰੇਤੇ ਵਿਖੇ ਜੱਗਾਂ, ਦੁਆਪੁਰ ਵਿਖੇ ਪੂਜਾ ਦੀਆਂ ਬਾਹਲੀਆਂ 'ਘਾਲਾਂ' (ਕਮਾਈਆਂ ਚਲ ਪਈਆਂ)।
In satyug the truth, in treta and dvapar worship and ascetice discipline were in vogue.
ਕਲਿਜੁਗਿਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਨਾਉਂਲੈਪਾਰਿਪਵੈਭਵਜਲਭਰਨਾਲਾ।
ਕਲਿਜੁਗ (ਵਿਖੇ) ਗੁਰਮੁਖ (ਲੋਕ) ਸੰਸਾਰ ਸਮੁੰਦ੍ਰ ਥੀਂ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਕੇ ਹੀ ਪਾਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
The gurmukhs, in kaliyug go across the world-ocean by repeating the name of the Lord.
ਚਾਰਿਚਰਣਸਤਿਜੁਗੈਵਿਚਿਤ੍ਰੇਤੈਚਉਥੈਚਰਣਉਕਾਲਾ।
ਸਤਿਜੁਗ ਵਿਖੇ ਧਰਮ ਦੇ ਚਾਰੇ ਚਰਣ (ਤਪ, ਸੌਚ, ਦਯਾ, ਸੱਤ) ਸਬੂਤ ਸਨ, ਤ੍ਰੇਤੇ ਵਿਚ ਚੌਥਾ ਚਰਣ ਹਟ ਗਿਆ।
Dharma had four feet in the satyug but in treta, the fourth foot of dharma was made cripple.
ਦੁਆਪੁਰਿਹੋਏਪੈਰਦੁਇਇਕਤੈਪੈਰਧਰੰਮੁਦੁਖਾਲਾ।
ਦੁਆਪਰ ਵਿਖੇ ਦੋ ਪੈਰ ਹੋ ਗਏ, ਹੁਣ ਇਕ ਪੈਰ (ਰਹਿਣ ਕਰਕੇ) ਧਰਮ ਵਡਾ ਦੁਖੀ ਹੋਇਆ।
In dvapar only two feet of dharma survived and in kaliyug the dharma stands only on one foot to undergo the sufferings.
ਮਾਣੁਨਿਮਾਣੈਜਾਣਿਕੈਬਿਨਉਕਰੈਕਰਿਨਦਰਿਨਿਹਾਲਾ।
ਨਿਮਾਣਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਣ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਜਾਣਕੇ (ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਪਾਸ) ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਨ ਲੱਗਾ (ਕਿ) ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਨਾਲ (ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਨਿਹਾਲ ਕਰੋ।
Considering the Lord as the strength of the powerless ones, it (dharma) started praying for the liberation through the grace of the Lord.
ਗੁਰਪੂਰੈਪਰਗਾਸੁਕਰਿਧੀਰਜੁਧਰਮਸਚੀਧਰਮਸਾਲਾ।
(ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ) ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਪਰਗਾਸ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਧਰਮ ਦੇ ਧੀਰਜ ਲਈ ਸੱਚੀ ਧਰਮਸਾਲ (ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ) ਰਚੀ।
The Lord manifesting in the form of the perfect Gum created the true abode of fortitude and the dharma.
ਆਪੇਖੇਤੁਆਪੇਰਖਵਾਲਾ।੮।
ਆਪਣੇ ਖੇਤ ਦਾ ਆਪ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਹੀ ਰਖਵਾਲਾ ਹੋਇਆ। (ਭਾਵ ਆਪ ਰੱਖ ਲਿਆ, ਧਰਮ ਦੇ ਚਾਰ ਪੈਰ ਸੱਤਿ, ਸੰਤੋਖ, ਵੀਚਾਰ, ਨਾਮ ਪੂਰੇ ਕਰ ਦਿਤੇ)।
Himself is the field (of creation) and Himself its protector.
ਪਉੜੀ੯
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂਭਾਉਤਿਨਨਾਹਿਭਉਮੁਚੁਭਉਅਗੈਨਿਭਵਿਆਹਾ।
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ (ਪੁਰਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਰਬ ਦਾ) ਭਾਉ (ਧਾਰਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ) (ਭਾਵ ਨਿਵਕੇ ਤੁਰਦੇ ਹਨ) ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਜਮਾਦਿਕਾਂ ਦਾ) ਭਉ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, (ਅਰ ਜੋ ਰਬ ਦੇ ਭਉ ਥੋਂ 'ਨਿਭਵਿਆਹਾ') ਨਿਡਰੇ ਹਨ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਅੱਗੇ ਵੱਡਾ ਭੈ (ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ) ਹੈ।
They are not scared of anybody who have cherished the love of the Lord and those who are devoid of the fear of Lord remain scared in the court of Lord.
ਅਗਿਤਤੀਜਲਸੀਅਲਾਨਿਵਚਲੈਸਿਰੁਕਰੈਉਤਾਹਾ।
ਅੱਗ ਸਿਰ ਉੱਚਾ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਤੱਤੀ ਹੈ, ਪਾਣੀ ਨਿਵਕੇ ਚਲਦਾ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਲਈ) ਸੀਤਲ ਹੈ।
Since it keeps its head high, the fire is hot and because the water flows downwards, it is cold.
ਭਰਿਡੁਬੈਖਾਲੀਤਰੈਵਜਿਨਵਜੈਘੜੈਜਿਵਾਹਾ।
ਘੜਾ ਜਿੱਕੁਰ ਭਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ (ਭਾਵ ਹੰਕਾਰੀ ਜੀਵ) ਡੁਬੱਦਾ ਹੈ, ਨਾਲੇ ਵੱਜਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ (ਭਾਵ ਭਾਰੇ ਦੀਆਂ ਧੁਨਾਂ ਨਿਕਲਦੀਆਂ, ਜੇਕਰ ਉਹੋ ਘੜਾ) ਖਾਲੀ ਹੋਵੇ (ਨਿੰਮ੍ਰੀ ਭੂਤ ਜੀਵ) ਤਾਂ ਤਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਵੱਜਦਾ ਭੀ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ ਜੋੜੀ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ)।
The filled up pitcher drowns and makes no sound and the empty one not only goes on swimming, it rather makes the noise also (likewise is the egotist and the egoless one, the latter absorbing in loving devotion gets liberated and the former goes on tossing
ਅੰਬਸੁਫਲਫਲਿਝੁਕਿਲਹੈਦੁਖਫਲੁਅਰੰਡੁਨਨਿਵੈਤਲਾਹਾ।
ਅੰਬ (ਦਾ ਬੂਟਾ) ਝੁਕਣ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਚੰਗੇ ਫਲ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਰ ਇਰੰਡ (ਦਾ ਬੂਟਾ) ਝੁਕਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ (ਉਸ ਨਾਲ) ਦੁਖਦਾਈ ਫਲ ਲਗਦੇ ਹਨ।
Being full of fruits, the mango tree bends down in humility but the castor tree being full of bitter fruits never bows in humility.
ਮਨੁਪੰਖੇਰੂਧਾਵਦਾਸੰਗਿਸੁਭਾਇਜਾਇਫਲਖਾਹਾ।
ਮਨ ਪੰਖੀ ਦੀ ਨਿਆਈਂ ਚੌਫੇਰੇ ਦੌੜਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੰਗਤ ਦੇ ਸੁਭਾਵ ਨੁਸਾਰ ਫਲ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਯਥਾ:- “ਕਬੀਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਪੰਖੀ ਭਇਓ ਉਡਿ ਉਡਿ ਦਹਦਿਸ ਜਾਇ॥ ਜੋ ਜੈਸੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਮਿਲੈ ਸੋ ਤੈਸੋ ਫਲੁ ਖਾਇ”)।
The mind-bird keeps flying and according to its nature picks up the fruits.
ਧਰਿਤਾਰਾਜੂਤੋਲੀਐਹਉਲਾਭਾਰਾਤੋਲੁਤੁਲਾਹਾ।
ਤੱਕੜੀ ਪੁਰ ਧਰਕੇ ਜਦ ਤੋਲੀਏ ਹੌਲੇ ਭਾਰੇ ਦਾ ਤੋਲ ਤੁਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਜਿਹਾ ਕੁ “ਧਰਿ ਤਾਰਾਜੂ ਤੋਲੀਐ ਨਿਵੈ ਸੁ ਗਉਰਾ ਹੋਇ”॥ ਹੁਣ ਸੱਤਵੀਂ ਤੇ ਅੱਠਵੀਂ ਤੁਕ ਵਿਖੇ ਸਿੱਧਾਂਤ ਦੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ)।
On the scale of justice, the light and the heavy are weighed (and good and bad are differentiated).
ਜਿਣਿਹਾਰੈਹਾਰੈਜਿਣੈਪੈਰਾਉਤੇਸੀਸੁਧਰਾਹਾ।
ਜਿੱਤਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹਾਰਦਾ ਹੇ ਤੇ ਹਾਰਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਜਿੱਤ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪੈਰਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਹੀ ਸਿਰ ਧਰੀਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਮੁਕਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਇਹ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਜੋ ਪੈਰੀਂ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਜਗਤ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਪੈਰੀਂ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ)।
He who looks to be winning here loses in the court of the Lord and likewise the loser here wins there.
ਪੈਰੀਪੈਜਗਪੈਰੀਪਾਹਾ।੯।
ਪੈਰੀਂ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਨੇ) ਪੈਰੀਂ ਪੈਣਾ (ਸਿਖਲਾਇਆ ਹੈ। ਆਪ ਨਮੂਨਾ ਬਣੇ ਤੇ ਲੋਕੀ ਮਗਰ ਲੱਗੇ)।
All bow at his feet. The individual first falls at the feet (of Guru) and then he makes all to fall at his feet.
ਪਉੜੀ੧੦
ਸਚੁਹੁਕਮੁਸਚੁਲੇਖੁਹੈਸਚੁਕਾਰਣੁਕਰਿਖੇਲੁਰਚਾਇਆ।
(ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਸਤਿ ਸਰੂਪ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ) ਹੁਕਮ ਬੀ ਸਤਿ ਹੈ, ਸਤਿ ਹੀ ਲੇਖ ਹੈ, ਸੱਚਾ ਕਾਰਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਖੇਲ (ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦਾ) ਰਚਾਇਆ ਹੈ।
The order of the Lord is true, His writ is true and from the true cause He has created the creation as His sport.
ਕਾਰਣੁਕਰਤੇਵਸਿਹੈਵਿਰਲੈਦਾਓਹੁਕਰੈਕਰਾਇਆ।
(ਸਭ) ਕਾਰਣ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਦੇ ਵੱਸ ਹਨ (ਪਰ ਕਿਸੇ) ਵਿਰਲੇ ਦਾ ਓਹ ਕਰਾਇਆ ਬੀ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਭਾਵ 'ਜੋ ਜੋ ਚਿਤਵਹਿ ਸਾਧ ਜਨ ਸੋ ਲੇਤਾ ਮਾਨਿ')।
All the causes are under the control of the creator but He accepts the deeds of any rare devotee.
ਸੋਕਿਹੁਹੋਰੁਨਮੰਗਈਖਸਮੈਦਾਭਾਣਾਤਿਸੁਭਾਇਆ।
(ਪਰ ਓਹ ਭਗਤ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਐਡਾ ਦਰਜਾ ਹੈ ਕਿੱਥੇ ਖੇਡਦਾ ਹੈ? ਉੱਤਰ) ਓਹ ਹੋਰ ਕੁਛ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਭਾਈ ਭਿਖਾਰੀ ਵਾਙੂ) ਖਸਮ ਦਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਹੀ ਚੰਗਾ ਲਗਦਾ ਹੈ।
The devotee who has loved the will of the Lord, does not beg anything from any one else.
ਖਸਮੈਏਵੈਭਾਵਦਾਭਗਤਿਵਛਲੁਹੁਇਬਿਰਦੁਸਦਾਇਆ।
ਖਸਮ (ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ) ਨੂੰ (ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ) ਭਗਤ ਵਛਲ ਪੂਰਣ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ, ਏਵੇਂ ਭਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿ ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ ਵਾਂਙੂ ਭਗਤਾ ਦੀ ਰੱਛਾ ਹੀ ਰੱਖੇ) (ਭਗਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਕੀ ਭਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ? ਪੰਜਵੀਂ ਤੁਕ ਵਿਖੇ ਦੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ)।
Now the Lord also loves to accept the prayer of the devotee because protection of the devotee is His nature.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਗੁਰਸਬਦੁਲਿਵਕਾਰਣੁਕਰਤਾਕਰਦਾਆਇਆ।
ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ (ਵਿਖੇ ਮਿਲਕੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਵਿਖੇ ਲਿਵਲਾਈ ਰੱਖਦੇ (ਤੇ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ) ਸਾਰੇ ਕਾਰਣ ਕਰਤਾ ਹੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਆਇਆ ਹੈ। (ਸਾਨੂੰ ਦਖਲ ਦੇਣ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਨਹੀਂ, ਉਹ ਸਮਰਥ ਹੈ)।
The devotees who keep their consciousness absorbed in the Word in the holy congregation, know well that the creator Lord is the perennial cause of all causes.
ਬਾਲਸੁਭਾਇਅਤੀਤਜਗਿਵਰਸਰਾਪਦਾਭਰਮੁਚੁਕਾਇਆ।
(ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਬਾਲਕਾਂ ਵਾਂਗੂੰ ਸੁਭਾਉ ਰੱਖਕੇ (ਭਾਵ ਹਰਖ ਸੋਗੋਂ ਰਹਤ ਹੋ) ਜਗਤ ਥੋਂ ਅਤੀਤ ਹੋਕੇ ਵਰ ਸਰਾਪ ਦਾ ਸੰਕਲਪ ਚੁਕਾ ਛੱਡਿਆ ਹੈ (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਇਹ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਰਾਗ ਦ੍ਵੈਖ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਇਸ ਲਈ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਮੂਲ ਹੀ ਚੁਕਾ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੈ; ਜਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ)।
The devotee like the innocent child remains detached from the world and keeps himself free from delusions of boons and curses.
ਜੇਹਾਭਾਉਤੇਹੋਫਲੁਪਾਇਆ।੧੦।
ਜੇਹਾ (ਕਿਸੇ ਦਾ) ਭਾਉ ਹੋਵੇ ਤੇਹਾ ਹੀ (ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਫਲ ਪਾਇਆ ਹੈ।
He receives the fruit in accordance with his desert.'
ਪਉੜੀ੧੧
ਅਉਗੁਣਕੀਤੇਗੁਣਕਰੈਸਹਜਿਸੁਭਾਉਤਰੋਵਰਹੰਦਾ।
ਬ੍ਰਿੱਛ ਦਾ ('ਸਹਜ') ਸੁਤੇ ਹੀ ਸੁਭਾਉ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਅਉਗਣ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਹੋਇਆਂ ਗੁਣ (ਉਪਕਾਰ) ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
The tree being in equipoise does good even to the evil doer.
ਵਢਣਵਾਲਾਛਾਉਬਹਿਚੰਗੇਦਾਮੰਦਾਚਿਤਵੰਦਾ।
ਵੱਢਣ ਵਾਲਾ (ਬ੍ਰਿੱਛਾਂ ਦੀ) ਛਾਂ ਹੇਠ ਬੈਠਕੇ 'ਚੰਗੇ ਦਾ (ਭਾਵ ਬ੍ਰਿੱਛ ਦਾ) ਮੰਦਾ (ਬੁਰਾ) ਹੀ ਚਿਤਵਦਾ ਹੈ; (ਕਿ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਮੁੱਢ ਤੇ ਟਾਹਣ ਤਖਤਿਆਂ ਕੜੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਲਾਇਕ ਹਨ, ਵੱਢਕੇ ਲੈ ਚਲੀਏ)।
The tree cutter sits under the shade of the same and thinks evil of that benevolent one.
ਫਲਦੇਵਟਵਗਾਇਆਂਵਢਣਵਾਲੇਤਾਰਿਤਰੰਦਾ।
(ਬ੍ਰਿੱਛ) ਵਟਿਆਂ ਮਾਰਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਨੂੰ ਫਲ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਵੱਢਣ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ('ਤਾਰ ਤਰੰਦਾ') ਨਦੀਓਂ ਤਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
It gives fruits to the stone throwers and boat to the cutters to get them across.
ਬੇਮੁਖਫਲਨਾਪਾਇਦੇਸੇਵਕਫਲਅਣਗਣਤਫਲੰਦਾ।
('ਬੇਮੁਖ') ਦੁਸ਼ਟ ਲੋਕ (ਜੋ ਭਲਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਉਪਕਾਰ ਛੱਡਕੇ ਬੁਰਾ ਚਿਤਵਦੇ ਹਨ) ਓਹ ਫਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਉਂਦੇ, (ਸੇਵਕ) ਭਗਤ ਲੋਕ ਅਣਗਿਣਤ ਫਲਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਫਲੀ ਭੂਤ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਸੇਵਕ ਕਿਹੜੇ ਹਨ?)
The individuals opposed to the Gum do not get fruit and the servants receive infinite reward.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਵਿਰਲਾਜਾਣੀਐਸੇਵਕੁਸੇਵਕਸੇਵਕਸੰਦਾ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖ (ਕੋਈ) ਵਿਰਲਾ ਹੀ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਦਾ ਸੇਵਕ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Any rare gurmukh is known in this world who serves the servants of the Lord's servants.
ਜਗੁਜੋਹਾਰੇਚੰਦਨੋਸਾਇਰਲਹਰਿਅਨੰਦੁਵਧੰਦਾ।
ਜਗਤ 'ਚੰਦ' ਨੂੰ (ਭਾਵ ਦੂਜ ਦੇ ਚੰਦ ਨੂੰ) ਨਮਸਕਾਰਾਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਸਮੁੰਦ੍ਰ ਅਨੰਦ ਦੀਆਂ ਲਹਿਰਾਂ ਵਧਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਭਾਵ ਉਹ ਬੀ ਦੁਤੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਚੰਦ ਨੂੰ ਮੱਥਾ ਨਿਵਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ)।
The second day moon is saluted by all and the ocean also becoming glad throws its waves towards it.
ਜੋਤੇਰਾਜਗੁਤਿਸਦਾਬੰਦਾ।੧੧।
ਜੋ ਤੇਰਾ ਬੰਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਗਤ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਬੰਦਾ ਹੈ (“ਫਰੀਦਾ ਜੇ ਤੂ ਮੇਰਾ ਹੋਇ ਰਹਰਿ ਸਭੁ ਜਗ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੋਇ”)॥
0 Lord! the whole world becomes his who is yours own.

ਜਿਉਵਿਸਮਾਦੁਕਮਾਦੁਹੈਸਿਰਤਲਵਾਇਆਹੋਇਉਪੰਨਾ।
ਜਿਕੂੰ ਕਮਾਦ ਅਚਰਜ ਰੂਪ ਹੈ, ਮੂਧੇ ਸਿਰ ਹੋਕੇ ਉਤਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Nature of sugarcane is wondrous: it takes birth head down.
ਪਹਿਲੇਖਲਉਖਲਿਕੈਟੋਟੇਕਰਿਕਰਿਭੰਨਣਿਭੰਨਾ।
ਪਹਿਲੇ ਖੋਰੀ ਲਾਹੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਟੋਟੇ ਕਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਭੰਨੀ ਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ ਆਗ ਕੱਟਕੇ ਦੱਥੇ ਬੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ)।
First its skin is eeled off and it is cut into pieces.
ਕੋਲੂਪਾਇਪੀੜਾਇਆਰਸਟਟਰਿਕਸਇੰਨਣਵੰਨਾ।
ਵੇਲਣੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਾਕੇ ਪੀੜਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਰਹੁ ਕੜਾਹੇ ਵਿਚ, ਤੇ ਪੱਛੀਆਂ ਲਕੜੀਆਂ ਵਾਂਗੂੰ (ਬਾਲੀਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ)।
Then it is crushed in cane crusher; its nice is boiled in a cauldren and the bagasse is burnt as fuel.
ਦੁਖਸੁਖਅੰਦਰਿਸਬਰੁਕਰਿਖਾਏਅਵਟਣੁਜਗਧੰਨਧੰਨਾ।
ਦੁਖ ਸੁਖ ਵਿਚ ਸਬਰ ਰੱਖਕੇ ਉਬਾਲਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਹਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਗਤ ਧੰਨ ਧੰਨ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ।
It remains ontented in joys and sufferings alike and after getting boiled is called est in the world.
ਗੁੜੁਸਕਰੁਖੰਡੁਮਿਸਰੀਗੁਰਮੁਖਸੁਖਫਲੁਸਭਰਸਬੰਨਾ।
(ਤਿਵੇਂ) ਗੁੜ, ਸ਼ੱਕਰ, ਖੰਡ, ਮਿਸਰੀ ਰੂਪ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਹਨ, ਸੁਖ ਫਲ ਅਤੇ ਸਭ ਰਸਾਂ ਦੇ (ਬੰਨਾ) ਬਨਾਉਣ (ਹਾਰੇ ਅਥਵਾ ਰਾਖੇ) ਹਨ।
Attaining the pleasure fruit, like gurmukh, it becomes he base of jaggery, sugar and crystal sugar.
ਪਿਰਮਪਿਆਲਾਪੀਵਣਾਮਰਿਮਰਿਜੀਵਣੁਥੀਵਣੁਗੰਨਾ।
(ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ) ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਲਾ ਪੀਕੇ ਗੰਨੇ ਵਾਂਗੂੰ ਮਰ ਮਰ ਕੇ ਜੀਵਣ ਮੁਕਤ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
Death after quaffing the cup f love is similar to the life of sugarcane which after getting crushed becomes live.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਬੋਲਅਮੋਲਰਤੰਨਾ।੧੨।
(ਇਸੇ ਲਈ) ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਬੋਲ (ਅਰਥਾਤ ਮਿਸ਼ਟ ਬਚਨ) ਅਮੋਲਕ ਰਤਨ ਰੂਪ ਹਨ (ਇਸ ਲਈ ਕਿ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਆਦਿ ਰੋਗ ਦੇ ਨਾਸ਼ਕ ਹਨ)।
Sayings of gurmukhs are invaluable like jewels.
ਪਉੜੀ੧੩
ਗੁਰਦਰੀਆਉਅਮਾਉਹੈਲਖਦਰੀਆਉਸਮਾਉਕਰੰਦਾ।
ਗੁਰੂ ਦਰਆਉ (ਅਮੇਉ) ਮਿਣਦੀਓਂ ਬਾਹਰ ਹੈ, (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ) ਲੱਖਾਂ ਦਰਯਾਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਮਾਈ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Guru is such an immeasurable ocean that millions of rivers are absorbed in it.
ਇਕਸਇਕਸਦਰੀਆਉਵਿਚਿਲਖਤੀਰਥਦਰੀਆਉਵਹੰਦਾ।
(ਉਸ) ਇਕ ਇਕ ਦਰੀਆਉ ਵਿਖੇ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਤੀਰਥ ਦਰੀਆਉ ਵਗਦੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ ਇਕ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਵਿਖੇ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਦਰੀਆਵਾਂ ਤੇ ਤੀਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੰਨੇ ਹੋਏ ਮਹਾਤਮ ਸਚ ਮੁਚ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ “ਗੁਰੁ ਦਰੀਆਉ ਸਦਾ ਜਲੁ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਹਰੈ”)।
Millions of pilgrimage centres are there on each river and in each stream millions of waves are raised by nature.
ਇਕਤੁਇਕਤੁਵਾਹੜੈਕੁਦਰਤਿਲਖਤਰੰਗਉਠੰਦਾ।
(ਉਨਾਂ ਦੇ) ਇਕ ਇਕ ਪ੍ਰਵਾਹ ਵਿਖੇ ਕੁਦਰਤੀ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਤਰੰਗ ਉਠਦੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ ਕਥਾ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਦੇ ਲਿਬਾਸ ਹੋ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਜਾਂ ਇਕ ਇਕ ਸਿੱਖ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ)।
In that Guru-ocean myriad jewels and all the four ideals (dharma, arth, kam and moks) moves around in the form of fish.
ਸਾਇਰਸਣੁਰਤਨਾਵਲੀਚਾਰਿਪਦਾਰਥੁਮੀਨਤਰੰਦਾ।
ਸਮੁੰਦ੍ਰ ਕਈ ਰਤਨਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਪੰਗਤਾਂ ਸਣੇ ਚਾਰੇ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ (ਗੁਰ ਦਰਯਾ ਵਿਚ) ਮੱਛੀ ਵਾਂਙੂ ਤਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
All these things are not equal even to one wave (one sentence) of the Guru-ocean.
ਇਕਤੁਲਹਿਰਨਪੁਜਨੀਕੁਦਰਤਿਅੰਤੁਨਅੰਤਲਹੰਦਾ।
(ਓਹ ਚਾਰੇ ਪਾਦਰਥ ਆਦਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ) ਇਕ ਲਹਿਰ (ਬਚਨ) ਦੇ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ, (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ) 'ਕੁਦਰਤ' (ਗੁਰਮੁਕਤੀ) ਦੇ ਅੰਤ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੈ ਸਕਦਾ।
The mystery of the extent of His power is unknowable.
ਪਿਰਮਪਿਆਲੇਇਕਬੂੰਦਗੁਰਮੁਖਵਿਰਲਾਅਜਰੁਜਰੰਦਾ।
ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪਿਆਲੇ ਦੀ ਇਕ ਬੂੰਦ ਅਜਰ ਹੈ, (ਪਰੰਤੂ ਕੋਈ) ਵਿਰਲਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਜਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
The unbearable drop of the cup of love can be cherished by any rare gurmukh.
ਅਲਖਲਖਾਇਨਅਲਖੁਲਖੰਦਾ।੧੩।
(ਉਹ) ਅਲਖ ਨੂੰ ਲਖ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਅਲਖ ਨੂੰ ਲਖਾਉਂਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ (ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਲਖ ਲੀਤਾ ਹੈ। ਯਥਾ:- “ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਓ ਤਿਨਹਿ ਛਪਾਇਓ”। ਤਥਾ:-”ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਗੂੰਗੇ ਗੁੜੁ ਖਾਇਆ ਪੂਛੇ ਤੇ ਕਿਆ ਕਹੀਐ। “ ਸ੍ਵਾਂਤਿ ਬੂੰਦ ਦੇ ਸਿੱਪ ਵਾਂਗੂੰ ਟੁੱਭੀ ਮਾਰਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਵਿਚੇ ਅਨੰਦਿਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ)।
The Guru himself sees that imperceptible Lord, who is not visible to others.

ਬ੍ਰਹਮੇਥਕੇਬੇਦਪੜਿਇੰਦ੍ਰਇੰਦਾਸਣਰਾਜੁਕਰੰਦੇ।
(ਕਈ) ਬ੍ਰਹਮੇ ਵੇਦ ਪੜ੍ਹਪੜ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਤੇ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਇੰਦ੍ਰਾਸਣ ਪੁਰ ਰਾਜ ਕਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਥੱਕ ਗਏ।
Many Brahmas reciting Vedas and many Indrs ruling the kingdoms got tired.
ਮਹਾਂਦੇਵਅਵਧੂਤਹੋਇਦਸਅਵਤਾਰੀਬਿਸਨੁਭਵੰਦੇ।
(ਕਈ) ਸ਼ਿਵ ਯੋਗੀਸ਼ਰ ਹੋਕੇ ਤੇ (ਕਈ) ਬਿਸ਼ਨ ਦਸਾਂ ਅਵਤਾਰਾਂ (ਦੇ ਰੂਪ ਵਿਚ) ਫਿਰਦੇ ਰਹੇ।
Mahadev becoming recluse and Visnu assuming ten incarnations roamed hither and thither.
ਸਿਧਨਾਥਜੋਗੀਸਰਾਂਦੇਵੀਦੇਵਨਭੇਵਲਹੰਦੇ।
(ਚੌਰਾਸੀ) ਸਿੱਧ, (ਨੌਂ) ਨਾਥ, ਯੋਗੀ, ਦੇਵੀਆਂ, ਦੇਵ ਭੇਦ ਕਿਸੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਇਆ।
Siddhs, naths, chiefs of the yogis, gods and goddesses could not know the mystery of that Lord.
ਤਪੇਤਪੀਸੁਰਤੀਰਥਾਂਜਤੀਸਤੀਦੇਹਦੁਖਸਹੰਦੇ।
ਤਪੀਸਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਤੀਰਥਾਂ ਤੇ ਤਪ ਕੀਤੇ, ਜਤੀ ਸਤੀ, ਦੇਹ ਦੇ ਦੁਖ ਸਹਾਰਦੇ ਰਹੇ।
Ascetics, the people going to pilgrimage centres, celebates and numerous satis in order to know Him suffer through their bodies.
ਸੇਖਨਾਗਸਭਰਾਗਮਿਲਿਸਿਮਰਣੁਕਰਿਨਿਤਿਗੁਣਗਾਵੰਦੇ।
ਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਨਾਗ ਸਾਰੇ ਰਾਗ (ਰਾਗਣੀਆਂ ਸਮੇਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ) ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਨਿਤ ਜਸ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹੇ (ਪਰ ਅੰਤ ਕਿਸੇ ਨਾ ਪਾਇਆ। ਗੁਰੂ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਿਰੂਪਣ ਦਸਦੇ ਹਨ:)
Sesanag also along with all musical measures remembers and praises Him.
ਵਡਭਾਗੀਗੁਰਸਿਖਜਗਿਸਬਦੁਸੁਰਤਿਸਤਸੰਗਿਮਿਲੰਦੇ।
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਖੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ (ਆਏ) ਹਨ, ਜਿਹੜੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਖੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸਤਿਸੰਗ ਵਿਖੇ ਮਿਲਦੇ ਹਨ।
In this world only gurmukhs are fortunate who merging their consciousness in the Word gather in holy congregation.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸੁਖਫਲੁਅਲਖੁਲਖੰਦੇ।੧੪।
(ਓਹ) ਗੁਰਮੁਖ (ਹੋਕੇ) ਸੁਖ ਫਲ ਪਾਕੇ ਅਲਖ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾਂ) ਨੂੰ ਲਖ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
Gurmukhs only, become face to face with that imperceptible Lord and attain the fruit of delight.

ਸਿਰਤਲਵਾਇਆਬਿਰਖੁਹੈਹੋਇਸਹਸਫਲਸੁਫਲਫਲੰਦਾ।
ਬ੍ਰਿੱਛ 'ਸਿਰ ਤਲਵਾਇਆ' (ਸਿਰ ਤਲੇ ਰਖਦਾ) ਹੈ ਹਜ਼ਾਰਾਂ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਫਲ ਨਾਲ ਫਲਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਭਾਵ ਨਿੰਮ੍ਰਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਫਲ ਲਗਦਾ ਹੈ)।
The head (root) of the tree remains downwards and there for it is laden with flowers and fruit.
ਨਿਰਮਲੁਨੀਰੁਵਖਾਣੀਐਸਿਰੁਨੀਵਾਂਨੀਵਾਣਿਚਲੰਦਾ।
ਜਲ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਕਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੇ) ਸਿਰ ਨੀਵਾਂ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਨੀਵਾਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਚਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
The water is known as pure because it flows downward.
ਸਿਰੁਉਚਾਨੀਵੇਂਚਰਣਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਪੈਰੀਸੀਸੁਪਵੰਦਾ।
ਸਿਰ ਉੱਚਾ ਹੈ, ਨੀਵੇਂ ਚਰਣ ਹਨ, ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਪੁਰ ਹੀ ਸਿਰ ਝੁਕਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
The head is higher and the feet lower but even then the head bows on the feet of the gurmukh.
ਸਭਦੂਨੀਵੀਧਰਤਿਹੋਇਅਨੁਧਨੁਸਭੁਸੈਸਾਰੁਸਹੰਦਾ।
ਸਭਨਾਂ ਥੋਂ ਨੀਵੀਂ ਧਰਤੀ ਹੈ, ਅੰਨ ਧਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਾਰ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ।
The lowest is the earth which bears the burden of the whole world and of the wealth in it.
ਧੰਨੁਧਰਤੀਓਹੁਥਾਉਧੰਨੁਗੁਰੁਸਿਖਸਾਧੂਪੈਰੁਧਰੰਦਾ।
(ਇਸ ਲਈ) ਧੰਨ ਧਰਤੀ ਅਰ ਓਹ ਥਾਉਂ ਬੀ ਧੰਨ ਹੈ (ਜਿੱਥੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਸਾਧ ਚਰਣ ਧਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
That land and that place is blest where the Guru, the Sikh and ..he holymen put their feet.
ਚਰਣਧੂੜਿਪਰਧਾਨਕਰਿਸੰਤਵੇਦਜਸੁਗਾਵਿਸੁਣੰਦਾ।
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜੀ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਤ ਤੇ ਧਰਮ ਪੁਸਤਕ ਜਸ ਗਾਕੇ ਸੁਣਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
That the dust of the feet of the saints is the highest is told even by the Vedas.
ਵਡਭਾਗੀਪਾਖਾਕਲਹੰਦਾ।੧੫।
ਵਡਭਾਗੀ (ਹਨ ਓਹ ਲੋਕ ਜੋ) ਚਰਣ ਧੂੜੀ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ (“ਧੂੜੀ ਮਜਨੁ ਸਾਧ ਖੇ ਸਾਈ ਥੀਏ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ॥ ਲਧੇ ਹਭੇ ਥੋਕੜੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਮਾਲੁ”। ਅਰਥਾਤ- ਹਰੀ ਦੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲਤਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜੀ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਨਾਨ-ਹਉਂ ਦਾ ਪੂਰਨ ਤਯਾਗ- ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਲੱਭ ਲੀਤੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਪਾਸ ਹ
Any fortunate one attains the dust of the feet.

ਪੂਰਾਸਤਿਗੁਰੁਜਾਣੀਐਪੂਰੇਪੂਰਾਠਾਟੁਬਣਾਇਆ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ (ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ) ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਜਾਣੋਂ (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ) ਪੂਰੇ ਨੇ ਪੂਰਾ ਹੀ ਬਣਾਉ ਬਣਾ ਰਖਿਆ ਹੈ।
The perfect true Guru is known in his majestic form.
ਪੂਰੇਪੂਰਾਤੋਲੁਹੈਘਟੈਨਵਧੈਘਟਾਇਵਧਾਇਆ।
ਪੂਰੇ (ਗੁਰੂ) ਦਾ ਤੋਲ (ਵਿਚਾਰ) ਪੂਰਾ ਹੈ ਘਟਾਇਆ (ਕਿਸੇ ਦਾ) ਘਟਦਾ ਤੇ ਵਧਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਵਧਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ।
Perfect is the justice of the perfect Guru to which nothing can be added nor reduced from.
ਪੂਰੇਪੂਰੀਮਤਿਹੈਹੋਰਸੁਪੁਛਿਨਮਤਾਪਕਾਇਆ।
ਪੂਰੇ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ('ਮਤ') ਸਿੱਖਯਾ ਪੂਰੀ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਲਈ ਉਸਨੇ) ਹੋਰ ਨੂੰ ਪੁੱਛਕੇ ਗੁਰਮਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ (ਕਦੇ) ਪਕਾਇਆ।
The wisdom of the perfect Guru is perfect and he makes up his mind with out asking for other's counsel .
ਪੂਰੇਪੂਰਾਮੰਤੁਹੈਪੂਰਾਬਚਨੁਨਟਲੈਟਲਾਇਆ।
ਪੂਰੇ ਦਾ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਪੂਰਾ, ਬਚਨ ਪੂਰਾ ਹੈ, ਕਦੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਦਾ ਟਲਾਇਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਟਲਦਾ।
The mantra of the perfect is perfect and his command cannot be avoided.
ਸਭੇਇਛਾਪੂਰੀਆਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਮਿਲਿਪੂਰਾਪਾਇਆ।
ਜਿਸਨੇ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਕੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਭਿਆ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਦੀਆਂ) ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਇੱਛਾਂ ਪੂਰਨ ਹੁੰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ
All desires are fulfilled when joining the holy congregation, one meets the perfect Guru .
ਵੀਹਇਕੀਹਉਲੰਘਿਕੈਪਤਿਪਉੜੀਚੜ੍ਹਿਨਿਜਘਰਿਆਇਆ।
ਸੰਸਾਰਕ ਗਿਣਤੀਆਂ ਟੱਪਕੇ ਪਤਿ ਦੀ ਪਉੜੀ (ਚਉਥੀ ਭੂਮਕਾ) ਨੂੰ ਚੜ੍ਹਕੇ ਸਰੂਪ ਵਿਖੇ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਪਿਆ, (ਫਲ ਕੀ ਹੋਇਆ?)
Crossing all calculations the Guru has climbed the ladder of honour to reach his own loft.
ਪੂਰੇਪੂਰਾਹੋਇਸਮਾਇਆ।੧੬।
ਪੂਰੇ' (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ) ਪੂਰਣ ਹੋਕੇ ਸਮਾ ਗਿਆ।
Becoming perfect he has merged in that perfect Lord.
ਪਉੜੀ੧੭
ਸਿਧਸਾਧਿਕਮਿਲਿਜਾਗਦੇਕਰਿਸਿਵਰਾਤੀਜਾਤੀਮੇਲਾ।
ਸਿੱਧ ਅਤੇ 'ਸਾਧਕ' (ਸਾਧਨਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ) ਇਕ ਸ਼ਿਵਰਾਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਲਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਫੱਗਣ ਦੇ ਮਹੀਨੇ) ਜਾਗਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।

ਮਹਾਦੇਉਅਉਧੂਤੁਹੈਕਵਲਾਸਣਿਆਸਣਿਰਸਕੇਲਾ।
ਮਹਾਂਦੇਵ (ਸ਼ਿਵ ਯੋਗ ਵਿਖੇ) ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਜਾਂ ਅਤੀਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ) ('ਕਵਲਾਸਣ') ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ (ਕਵਲ ਦੇ) ਆਸਣ ਦਾ ਰਸ ਲੈ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
Mahadev is a recluse and Brahma is absorbed in the delight of the seat of lotus.
ਗੋਰਖੁਜੋਗੀਜਾਗਦਾਗੁਰਿਮਾਛਿੰਦ੍ਰਧਰੀਸੁਧਰੇਲਾ।
ਗੋਰਖ ਜੋਗੀ ਜਾਗਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਜਿਸ ਦੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਮਾਛਿੰਦ੍ਰ ਨਾਥ ਨੇ ਧੜੇਲ ਕਰ ਲੀਤੀ ਸੀ (ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਇਕ ਰਾਣੀ ਦਾ ਜਿਸ ਪੁਰ ਮਾਛਿੰਦ੍ਰ ਆਸ਼ਕ ਸੀ ਪਤੀ ਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ। ਹੁਣ ਮਾਛਿੰਦ੍ਰ ਨੇ ਦਾਉ ਤਾੜਕੇ ਮਾਛਿੰਦ੍ਰ ਪੁਣਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਕਿ ਰਾਜਾ ਦੀ ਦੇਹ ਵਿਖੇ ਪ੍ਰਵੇਸ਼ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਬਾਹਲਾ ਚਿਰ ਜਿਥੋਂ ਤੀਕ ਚੇਲੇ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਆਖਕੇ ਭਈ 'ਜ
That Gorakh the yogi is also awake whose teacher Machhendr had kept a beautiful concubine.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁਜਾਗਿਜਗਾਇਦਾਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਮਿਲਿਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਵੇਲਾ।
(ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ) ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਆਪ ਸਦਾ ਜਾਗਦੇ ਅਰ (ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬੀ ਜਗਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਅਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਵੇਲੇ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੇਲ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
The true Guru is awake and he in the holy congregation in ambrosial hours makes others also awake (from the sleep of infatuation).
ਨਿਜਘਰਿਤਾੜੀਲਾਈਅਨੁਅਨਹਦਸਬਦਪਿਰਮਰਸਖੇਲਾ।
ਸਰੂਪ ਵਿਖੇ ਤਾੜੀ ਲਾਕੇ ਅਨਹਦ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਅਰ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਰਸ ਵਿਖੇ ਖੇਲ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
In the holy congregation, theji-vs concentrate upon their self and remain absorbed in the loving delight of the unstruck word.
ਆਦਿਪੁਰਖਆਦੇਸੁਹੈਅਲਖਨਿਰੰਜਨਨੇਹੁਨਵੇਲਾ।
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਨੂੰ ਮੇਰੀ ਨਮਸਕਾਰ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਅਲਖ ਅਤੇ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦਾ ਵੇਲਾ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ (ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਇਕਰਸ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।)।
I salute the primal person, the Guru whose love and affection for the imperceptible Lord is ever fresh.
ਚੇਲੇਤੇਗੁਰੁਗੁਰੁਤੇਚੇਲਾ।੧੭।
ਚੇਲੇ ਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੇ ਚੇਲਾ! (ਤਾਤਪਰਜ ਇਹ ਕਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਅੰਗਦ ਆਦਿ ਵਿੱਚ ਚੇਲੇ ਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਵਿਖੇ ਕੋਈ ਭਿੰਨ ਭੇਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ)।
From disciple, the devotee becomes Guru and the Guru becomes disciple.
ਪਉੜੀ੧੮
ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾਬਿਸਨੁਮਹੇਸੁਤ੍ਰੈਸੈਸਾਰੀਭੰਡਾਰੀਰਾਜੇ।
ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ, ਬਿਸ਼ਨ, ਸ਼ਿਵ ਤਿੰਨ ਦੇਵਤੇ, ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਭੰਡਾਰੀ (ਤੇ ਘਾਤਕ) ਰਾਜੇ ਹਨ।
Brahma Visnu and Mahesra all the three are creator, sustainer and dispenser of justice respectively.
ਚਾਰਿਵਰਨਘਰਬਾਰੀਆਜਾਤਿਪਾਤਿਮਾਇਆਮੁਹਤਾਜੇ।
ਚਾਰ ਵਰਣ (ਖੱਤ੍ਰੀ, ਬ੍ਰਹਮਣਾਦਿਕ) ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਤੀ ਹੋਕੇ (ਕੋਈ ਜਾਤਿ, (ਕੋਈ) ਪੰਗਤੀ, ਕੋਈ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਮੁਥਾਜਗੀ ਵਿਚ (ਗ੍ਰਸਤ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ)।
The house holders of all the four varnas depend upon caste-gotra the lineage and maya.
ਛਿਅਦਰਸਨਛਿਅਸਾਸਤ੍ਰਾਪਾਖੰਡਿਕਰਮਕਰਨਿਦੇਵਾਜੇ।
(ਕੋਈ) ਛੀ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਛੀ ਸ਼ਾਸਤ੍ਰਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਲੱਗਕੇ ਪਖੰਡ ਦੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਾਵੇ ਬੰਨ੍ਹਦੇ ਹਨ।
People perform hypocritical rituals pretending to follow the six philosophies of six shastras.
ਸੰਨਿਆਸੀਦਸਨਾਮਧਰਿਜੋਗੀਬਾਰਹਪੰਥਨਿਵਾਜੇ।
ਸੰਨਯਾਸੀ ਦਸ ਨਾਮ (ਗਿਰੀ ਪੁਰੀ ਆਦਿਕ) ਧਰਾ ਕੇ ਜੋਗੀਆਂ ਬਾਰਾਂ ਪੰਥ ਬਣਾਏ ਹਨ।
Likewise the sannyasis assuming ten names and yogis creating their twelve sects are moving around.
ਦਹਦਿਸਿਬਾਰਹਵਾਟਹੋਇਪਰਘਰਮੰਗਨਿਖਾਜਅਖਾਜੇ।
(ਏਹ ਬਾਰਹ ਬਾਟ) ਬਿਪਤਾ ਗ੍ਰਸੇ ਹੋਕੇ (ਯਾ ਬਹੁਤੇ ਰਾਹਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਭਟਕਦੇ ਹੋਏ) ਦਸੇ ਦਿਸ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਰੁਲਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰਾਏ ਘਰੀ ਮੰਗਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਧਾਨ ਕੁਧਾਨ ਖਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਪੰਥੋਂ ਪਤਿਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ)। (ਹੁਣ ਗੁਰਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੌਖਤਾ ਛੀਵੀਂ ਤੁਕ ਤੋਂ ਅਠਵੀਂ ਤੀਕ ਦਸਦੇ ਹਨ)।
They are all going astray in ten directions and twelve sects go on begging edibles and non edibles.
ਚਾਰਿਵਰਨਗੁਰੁਸਿਖਮਿਲਿਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਵਿਚਿਅਨਹਦਵਾਜੇ।
ਚਾਰ ਵਰਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਗੁਰਸਿਖ (ਆਪੋ ਵਿਚ) ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਖੇ ਅਨਾਹਦ (ਬਾਣੀ ਦਾ) ਉਚਾਰਣ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
The gursikhs of all the four varnas jointly recite and listen to the unstruck melody in the holy cangregation.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਵਰਨਅਵਰਨਹੋਇਦਰਸਨੁਨਾਉਂਪੰਥਸੁਖਸਾਜੇ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਵਰਨ ਹੋਣ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਅਵਰਨ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ (ਮਤ) ਨਾਮ ਹੈ (ਇਹੋ) ਰਸਤਾ ਸੁਖਦਾਈ ਹੈ (“ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖਦਾਈ”)।
Gurmukh going beyond all varnas follows the philosophy of ncim and the path of spiritual delight made for him.
ਸਚੁਸਚਾਕੂੜਿਕੂੜੇਪਾਜੇ।੧੮।
(ਨਿਯਮ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਸੱਚ ਸੱਚਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਕੂੜ ਦਾ ਪਾਜ ਕੂੜਾ ਹੀ ਹੈ।
The truth is always true and falsehood is altogether false.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਗੁਣੀਨਿਧਾਨੁਹੈਗੁਣਕਰਿਬਖਸੈਅਵਗੁਣਿਆਰੇ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ (ਨਾਨਕ) ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਮੁੰਦ੍ਰ ਹੈ, ਅਵਗੁਣ ਹਾਰਿਆਂ ਪੁਰ ਉਪਕਾਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਬਖਸ਼ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
The true Guru is the store house of virtues who out of his benevolence blesses even the wicked ones.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁਪੂਰਾਵੈਦੁਹੈਪੰਜੇਰੋਗਅਸਾਧਨਿਵਾਰੇ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਪੂਰਾ ਵੈਦ ਹੈ, ਪੰਜੇ ਰੋਗ ਜੋ ਕਿਸੇ ਥੋਂ ਸਾਧੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੇ, (ਆਪਣੀ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਔਖਧੀ ਦੇ ਕੇ) ਨਿਵਾਰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
The true Guru is a perfect physician who cures all the five chronic ailments.
ਸੁਖਸਾਗਰੁਗੁਰੁਦੇਉਹੈਸੁਖਦੇਮੇਲਿਲਏਦੁਖਿਆਰੇ।
ਗੁਰਦੇਵ (ਗੁਰੂ ਅਰਜਨ) ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਮੁੰਦ੍ਰ ਹੈ, ਦੁਖੀਆਂ ਨੁੰ ਸੁਖ ਦੇਕੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ) ਮੇਲ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Guru is ocean of pleasures who happily absorbs in him the sufferers.
ਗੁਰਪੂਰਾਨਿਰਵੈਰੁਹੈਨਿੰਦਕਦੋਖੀਬੇਮੁਖਤਾਰੇ।
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਦਾ ਨਿਰਵੈਰ ਹਨ, ਨਿੰਦਕ, ਦੋਖੀ ਅਤੇ ਬੇਮੁਖਾਂ (ਨੂੰ ਬੀ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਸਮੁੰਦ੍ਰੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
The perfect Guru is away form enmity and He liberates even the slanderers, envious ones and the apostates.
ਗੁਰੁਪੂਰਾਨਿਰਭਉਸਦਾਜਨਮਮਰਣਜਮਡਰੈਉਤਾਰੇ।
ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ (ਆਪ) ਸਦਾ ਨਿਰਭਉ (ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੇ) ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣਾਦਿਕ ਜਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਡਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਤਾਰ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
The perfect Guru is fearless who always dispels the fear of transmigration and Yama, the god of death.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁਪੁਰਖੁਸੁਜਾਣੁਹੈਵਡੇਅਜਾਣਮੁਗਧਨਿਸਤਾਰੇ।
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ (ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ) ਸੁਜਾਣ ਪੁਰਖ ਹਨ, ਵੱਡੇ ਮੂਰਖਾਂ ਤੇ ਅਜਾਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤਾਰ ਦੇਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
The true Guru is that enlightened one who saves ignorant fools and even the unknown ones.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ (ਨਾਨਕ) ਪਾਰਸ ਹਨ, ਆਪਣੇ ਸਪਰਸ਼ ਨਾਲ ਮਲੀਨ ਮਨੂਰ (ਰੂਪੀ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ) ਕੰਚਨ (ਵਤ ਸ਼ੁੱਧ ਤੇ ਬਹੁਮੁੱਲਾ) ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
The true Guru is such a philosopher's stone by whose touch dross transforms into gold.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪੂਰਨ ਕਲਪ ਬ੍ਰਿਛ ਹਨ, ਸਿੰਮਲ ਦੇ ਬੂਟੇ ਨੂੰ (ਆਪਣੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਖੇ) ਲੀਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਫਲਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
The true Guru is that wish fulfilling tree which makes the cotton silk tree full of fruit.
ਮਾਨਸਰੋਵਰੁਸਤਿਗੁਰੂਕਾਗਹੁਹੰਸੁਜਲਹੁਦੁਧੁਪੀਣਾ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਾਨ ਸਰੋਵਰ ਹੋਕੇ ਕਾਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹੰਸ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਪਾਪੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ) ਜਲ (ਪੀਣੇ) ਨੂੰ ਦੁਧ ਪੀਣਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਅਰਥਾਤ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਤੱਤ ਮਿੱਥ੍ਯਾ ਦਾ ਵਿਵੇਚਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਦੁਧ ਰੂਪ ਸਾਰ ਵਸਤੂ ਨੂੰ ਗ੍ਰਹਣ ਕਰ ਲਵੇ)।

The true Guru is giver of freedom from bondages and makes the detached ones librated in life.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ (ਵਿਖੇ ਜੋ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸਦਾ) ਅਪਤੀਜ ਮਨ (ਜੋ ਕਿਧਰੇ ਪਤੀਜਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ) ਪਤੀਜਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਸ਼ਾਂਤਿ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ)।

ਚਰਚਾ ਕਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਬਾਬਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਨੇ) ਸਿੱਧਾਂ, ਨਾਥਾਂ, ਆਦਿ ਅਵਤਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੰਨ ਫੜਾਏ। (ਭਾਵ ਸਾਰੇ ਤਾਬੇ ਕੀਤੇ)।

ਬਾਬਰਕੇਬਾਬੇਮਿਲੇਨਿਵਿਨਿਵਿਸਭਨਬਾਬੁਨਿਵਾਇਆ।
ਬਾਬੇ (ਨਾਨਕ) ਨੂੰ ਬਾਬਰ ਕੇ ਨਿਵ ਨਿਵ ਕੇ (ਅਤਿ ਨਿਮ੍ਰੰਤਾ ਨਾਲ) ਮਿਲੇ ਤੇ ਹੋਰ (ਕਈ) ਨਵਾਬ ਬੀ ਨਿਉਂਕੇ ਮਿਲੇ (ਭਾਵ ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨ ਹਾਕਮਾਂ ਨੇ ਬੀ ਤਾਬੇਦਾਰੀ ਮੰਨੀ)।

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ (ਨਾਨਕ) ਚੱਕ੍ਰਵਰਤੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਹੈ, ਤਿੰਨ ਭਵਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਜਗਤ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਵਪਾਰੀ ਹੈ।
The true Guru is a perfect banker and the three worlds are his travelling salesmen.
ਰਤਨਪਦਾਰਥਬੇਸੁਮਾਰਭਾਉਭਗਤਿਲਖਭਰੇਭੰਡਾਰਾ।

ਲੱਖਾਂ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ, ਲੱਖਾਂ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ (ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ) ਲੈਕੇ ਮਾਸ਼ਕੀ ਹੋਕੇ ਫਿਰ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਵਿਖੇ ਛਿੜਕਾਉ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।

ਸੂਰਜਚੰਦਚਰਾਗਲਖਰਿਧਿਸਿਧਿਨਿਧਿਬੋਹਲਅੰਬਾਰਾ।
ਸੂਰਜ ਚੰਦ (ਵਾਂਗੂੰ) ਲੱਖਾਂ ਚਰਾਗ਼ (ਦੀਵੇ ਚਮਕਦੇ) ਰਿੱਧਾਂ ਸਿੱਧਾਂ ਨਿਧਾਂ ਦੇ ਖਲਵਾੜੇ ਭਰੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ।
Millions of lamps like suns and moons are there and the heaps of miraculous powers are also with him.
ਸਭੇਵੰਡਵੰਡਿਦਿਤੀਓਨੁਭਾਉਭਗਤਿਕਰਿਸਚੁਪਿਆਰਾ।
(ਕੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਆਪ ਰਖਦੇ ਹਨ? ਨਹੀ;) ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਪ੍ਰੇਮਾ ਭਗਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਸਚਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਸਭ (ਦਾਤਾਂ) ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੰਡ ਵੰਡ ਕੇ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ ਹਨ।
The true Guru has distributed all these stores among those who love the truth and are absorbed in loving devotion.

(ਇਸੇ ਕਰਕੇ) ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ (ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ) ਨਾਲ ਸਿਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੱਚੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਹੈ।

ਧਰਮਸਾਲਕਰਿਬਹੀਦਾਇਕਤਥਾਉਂਨਟਿਕੈਟਿਕਾਇਆ।
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਨੇਮ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਸੀ ਕਿ) ਧਰਮਸਾਲ ਵਿਚ (ਟਿਕ) ਕੇ ਬੈਠਦੇ ਸਨ, (ਇਹ) ਗੁਰੂ ਹਰਿਗੋਬਿੰਦ) ਇਕ ਥਾਵੇਂ ਟਿਕਾਯਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਟਿਕਦਾ।
The earlier Gurus considered that to give instructions and to preach to the people, one has to sit at one place known as dharamshala, but this Guru (Hargobind) does riot stick to one place.
ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹਘਰਿਆਵਦੇਗੜਿਚੜਿਆਪਾਤਿਸਾਹਚੜਾਇਆ।
(ਅਗਲਿਆਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਹਿਬਾਂ ਦੇ) ਘਰ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਆਉਂਦੇ ਸਨ, ਇਹ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਦਾ ਚੜ੍ਹਾਇਆ ਕਿਲੇ ਚੜ੍ਹਿਆ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ ਬੰਦੀ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ)।
Earlier emperors would visit the house of the Guru, but this Guru has been interned by the king in a fort.
ਉਮਤਿਮਹਲੁਨਪਾਵਦੀਨਠਾਫਿਰੈਨਡਰੈਡਰਾਇਆ।
(ਅਗੇ) ਸਿੱਖੀ ਮਹਿਲ (ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦੀ ਸੀ, ਪਰ ਹੁਣ ਮਹਿਲ) ਨਹੀਂ।
The sarigat coming to have his glimpse cannot find him in the palace (because generally he is not available). Neither he is scared of anybody nor does he scare any one yet he is always on the move.
ਮੰਜੀਬਹਿਸੰਤੋਖਦਾਕੁਤੇਰਖਿਸਿਕਾਰੁਖਿਲਾਇਆ।
(ਅਗਲੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਜੀ) ਮੰਜੀ ਬੈਠਕੇ (ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ) ਤਸੱਲੀ ਦਾਨ ਦੇਂਦੇ ਸਨ, (ਇਸ ਨੇ) ਕੁੱਤੇ ਰਖੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਸ਼ਿਕਾਰ ਖੇਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
Earlier Gurus sitting on the seat instructed people to be content but this Guru rears dogs and goes out for hunting.
ਬਾਣੀਕਰਿਸੁਣਿਗਾਂਵਦਾਕਥੈਨਸੁਣੈਨਗਾਵਿਸੁਣਾਇਆ।
(ਅਗਲੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਜੀ) ਬਾਣੀ ਰਚਦੇ, ਗਾਉਂਦੇ ਤੇ ਸੁਣਦੇ ਸਨ, (ਇਹ) ਨਾ (ਬਾਣੀ) ਕਥਣਾ ਹੈ ਨਾ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਨਾਂ ਗਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
The Gurus used to listen to Gurbani but this Guru neither recites nor (regularly) listens to hymn-singing.
ਸੇਵਕਪਾਸਨਰਖੀਅਨਿਦੋਖੀਦੁਸਟਆਗੂਮੁਹਿਲਾਇਆ।
(ਅਗਲੇ, ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਸ (ਰਖਦੇ ਸਨ, ਇਹ ਸੇਵਕ ਪਾਸ) ਨਹੀਂ ਰਖਦੇ, ਦੋਖੀਆਂ ਦੁਸ਼ਟਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਗੂ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਲਾਉਂਦੇ (ਮਾਨ ਦੇਂਦੇ) ਹਨ।
He does not keep his follower servants with him and rather maintains nearness with the wicked and the envious ones (Guru had kept Painde Khan nearby).
ਸਚੁਨਲੁਕੈਲੁਕਾਇਆਚਰਣਕਵਲਸਿਖਭਵਰਲੁਭਾਇਆ।
(ਪਰ ਭਾਈ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜੀ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਇਸ ਤਬਦੀਲੀ ਨਾਲ) ਸਚ ਲੁਕਾਇਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੁਕਦਾ, ਸਿਖ ਭਵਰੇ ਵਾਂਙੂ ਹਨ (ਓਹ ਸਿਆਣਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਭਵਰੇ ਵਾਙੂ) ਚਰਨਾਂ ਕਵਲਾਂ ਤੇ ਲੁਭਿਤ ਹਨ।
But the truth is never concealed and that is why on the lotus feet of the Guru, the mind of 'Sikhs hover like a greedy black-bee.
ਅਜਰੁਜਰੈਨਆਪੁਜਣਾਇਆ।੨੪।
(ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ (ਗੁਰੂ) ਅਜਰ ਨੂੰ ਜਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਆਪਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਣਾਉਂਦਾ। (ਅਥਵਾ ਪੱਕੇ ਸਿਖ ਅਜਰ ਨੂੰ ਜਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਨੁਕਤਾਚੀਨੀਆਂ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਣਾਉਂਦੇ।
Guru Hargobding has borne the unbearable and he has not made himself manifest.

ਖੇਤੀਵਾੜਿਸੁਢਿੰਗਰੀਕਿਕਰਆਸਪਾਸਜਿਉਬਾਗੈ।
ਖੇਤੀ ਦੇ (ਉਦਾਲੇ) ਢਿੰਗਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਵਾੜ ਤੇ ਬਾਗ ਦੇ ਆਸ ਪਾਸ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਿੱਕਰ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ,
Around the agricultural field the bushes are kept as fence and around the garden acacia. trees (for its safety) are planted.
ਸਪਪਲੇਟੇਚੰਨਣੈਬੂਹੇਜੰਦਾਕੁਤਾਜਾਗੈ।
ਚੰਦਨ (ਦੁਆਲੇ) ਸੱਪ ਲਪੇਟੇ, (ਖਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਦੇ) ਬੂਹੇ (ਦੁਆਲੇ) ਜੰਦ੍ਰੇ ਤੇ ਕੁੱਤੇ ਜਾਗਦੇ ਹਨ।
The sandalwood tree is entwined by snakes and for the safety of treasure the lock is used and the dog also remains awake.
ਕਵਲੈਕੰਡੇਜਾਣੀਅਨਿਸਿਆਣਾਇਕੁਕੋਈਵਿਚਿਫਾਗੈ।
ਕਵਲ ਨੂੰ ਕੰਡੇ ਜਾਣੀਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਕਿਸੇ ਇਕ ਤੇ ਸਿਆਣੇ (ਦੇ ਉਦਾਲੇ) ਫੱਗਣ ਵਿਚ (ਖਰੂਦੀ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।)।
Thorns are known to live near flowers and during the ho/frevelty among the turbulent crowd one or two wise men also remain persent.
ਜਿਉਪਾਰਸੁਵਿਚਿਪਥਰਾਂਮਣਿਮਸਤਕਿਜਿਉਕਾਲੈਨਾਗੈ।
ਜਿਉਂ ਪਾਰਸ ਗਿਰਦੇ ਪੱਥਰ ਤੇ ਮਣੀ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਾਲੇ ਨਾਗ ਦੇ ਮਸਤਕ ਵਿਚ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
As the jewel remains in the head of black cobra the philosopher's stone remains surrounded by stones.
ਰਤਨੁਸੋਹੈਗਲਿਪੋਤਵਿਚਿਮੈਗਲੁਬਧਾਕਚੈਧਾਗੈ।
ਗਲ (ਦੀ ਮਾਲਾ ਵਿਖੇ) ਰਤਨ ਦੇ (ਉਦਾਲੇ) ਕਚਕੜੇ ਸੋਭਦੇ ਹਨ, ਹਾਥੀ ਦੇ ਉਦਾਲੇ ਬੱਧੇ ਹੋਏ ਕੱਚੇ ਧਾਗਿਆਂ (ਤੋਂ ਵੱਟੇ ਹੋਏ ਸੰਗਲ ਰੂਪ ਰੱਸੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ) (ਇਸ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ਦੇ ਘੇਰਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਰੂਪ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਿਕੁਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ? ਉਤਰ)
In the garland of jewels on both the side of a jewel glass is kept to protect it and the elephant remains tied with the thread cf love.
ਭਾਵਭਗਤਿਭੁਖਜਾਇਘਰਿਬਿਦਰੁਖਵਾਲੈਪਿੰਨੀਸਾਗੈ।
(ਜਿਕੂੰ) ਬਿਦਰ ਦੇ (ਦੁਖ), ਸਾਗ ਦੀ ਪਿੰਨੀ ਖਵਾਲਿਆਂ (ਗਏ ਸੇ, ਤਿਕੂੰ) ਪ੍ਰੇਮਾ ਭਗਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਘਰ ਦੀ ਭੁੱਖ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
Lord Krsna for his love for the devotees goes to Vidur's home when hungry and the latter offers him beans of sag, a green leafy vegetable.
ਚਰਣਕਵਲਗੁਰੁਸਿਖਭਉਰਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਸਹਲੰਗੁਸਭਾਗੈ।
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨ ਕਵਲਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਿਖ ਭਉਰਾ ਬਣੇਂ, ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਭਲੇ (ਜਾਣ ਕੇ) ਲੱਗ ਰਹੇ।
The Sikh of the Guru becoming black bee of the lotus feet of the Guru, ought to attain good fortune in the holy congregation.
ਪਰਮਪਿਆਲੇਦੁਤਰੁਝਾਗੈ।੨੫।
(ਐਉਂ) ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਲੇ ਕਸ਼ਟ ਝਾਗੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
He should further know that cup of the love of the Lord is got after very hard

ਭਵਜਲਅੰਦਰਿਮਾਨਸਰੁਸਤਸਮੁੰਦੀਗਹਿਰਗੰਭੀਰਾ।
ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਖੇ ਮਾਨ ਸਰੋਵਰ ਸਤ ਸਮੰਦਰਾਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ('ਗਹਰਾ ਗੰਭੀਰਾ') ਡੂੰਘਾ ਤੇ ਅਡੇਲ ਹੈ।
Deeper than the seven seas of the world is the mental world ocean known as Manasarovar
ਨਾਪਤਣੁਨਾਪਾਤਣੀਪਾਰਾਵਾਰੁਨਅੰਤੁਨਚੀਰਾ।
ਨਾ (ਕੋਈ ਇਸ ਦਾ) ਪੱਤਣ (ਘਾਟ), ਨਾ ਪਾਤਣੀ (ਮਲਾਹ), ਨਾ ਪਰਵਾਰ, ਨਾ ਅੰਤ, ਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਹੱਦ ਹੈ।
Which has no wharf no boatman and no end or bound.
ਨਾਬੇੜੀਨਾਤੁਲਹੜਾਵੰਝੀਹਾਥਿਨਧੀਰਕਧੀਰਾ।
ਨਾ ਬੇੜੀ ਨਾ (ਕੋਈ) ਤੁਲਹੜਾ, ਬਾਂਸਾਂ (ਡੂੰਘਾਈ ਮਿਣਨ ਦੇ ਮਾਪ) ਨਾਲ ਭੀ ਹਾਥ ਨਹੀਂ(ਭਾਵ ਬਹੁਤ ਡੂੰਘਾ ਹੈ) ਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਧੀਰਜ ਦੇਣਹਾਰਾ ਨਾ ਧੀਰਜ ਕਰਣਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ।
To go across it there is neither vessel nor raft; neither barge pole no any one to console.
ਹੋਰੁਨਕੋਈਅਪੜੈਹੰਸਚੁਗੰਦੇਮੋਤੀਹੀਰਾ।
ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ (ਕੇਵਲ) ਹੰਸ ਹੀ ਮੋਤੀ ਮਾਣਕ ਚੁਗਦੇ ਹਨ।
None else can reach there except the swans who pick up pearls from there.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁਸਾਂਗਿਵਰਤਦਾਪਿੰਡੁਵਸਾਇਆਫੇਰਿਅਹੀਰਾ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਂਗ ਵਰਤਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਅਹੀਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਪਿੰਡ ਫੇਰ ਵਸਾਇਆ ਹੈ, (ਗੋਇਲ ਵਾਸੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਮਨੁਖ ਰੂਪ ਵਿਚ ਵਸ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ)
The true Guru enacts his play and populates desolate places.
ਚੰਦੁਅਮਾਵਸਰਾਤਿਜਿਉਅਲਖੁਨਲਖੀਐਮਛੁਲੀਨੀਰਾ।
ਅਮੱਸਿਆ ਦੀ ਰਾਤ ਦੇ ਚੰਦ ਅਰ ਪਾਣੀ ਦੇ ਮੱਛ ਵਾਂਗੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਲੁਕੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ। (ਜਾਣਦੇ ਕੌਣ ਹਨ?)
Sometimes He hides himself like moon in amavas (no moon night) or fish in water.
ਮੁਏਮੁਰੀਦਗੋਰਿਗੁਰਪੀਰਾ।੨੬।
(ਜੇਹੜੇ) ਮੁਰੀਦ ਗੁਰੂ ਪੀਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਆਪਣੀ) ਗੌਰ (ਬਣ ਕੇ ਆਪ) ਮੁਰਦੇ ਹੋ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, (ਭਾਵ ਆਪਾ ਭਾਵ ਤੋਂ ਮਰਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ)।
Those who have become dead to their ego, they only absorb in the eternal trance in the from of the Guru.
ਪਉੜੀ੨੭
ਮਛੀਦੇਪਰਵਾਰਵਾਂਗਿਜੀਵਣਿਮਰਣਿਨਵਿਸਰੈਪਾਣੀ।
ਮੱਛੀ ਦੇ ਕੋੜਮੇ ਵਿਚ ਜੀਂਵਦਿਆਂ ਮਰਦਿਆ ਪਾਣੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਭੁੱਲਦਾ (ਜਿਹਾ:-ਮੀਨੁ ਪਕਰਿ ਫਾਂਕਿਓ ਅਰੁ ਕਾਟਿਓ ਰਾਂਧਿ ਕੀਓ ਬਹੁ ਬਾਨੀ॥ ਖੰਡ ਖੰਡ ਕਰਿ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਕੀਨੋ ਤਊ ਨ ਬਿਰਰਿਓ ਪਾਨੀ)॥
Gursikh is like the family of fish who whether dead or alive never forgets water.
ਜਿਉਪਰਵਾਰੁਪਤੰਗਦਾਦੀਪਕਬਾਝੁਨਹੋਰਸੁਜਾਣੀ।
ਪਤੰਗ ਦਾ ਕੋੜਮਾ ਦੀਵੇ ਬਾਝ ਹੋਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਛਾਣਦਾ।
Similarly to the moth family nothing but the flame of lamp is visible.
ਜਿਉਜਲਕਵਲੁਪਿਆਰੁਹੈਭਵਰਕਵਲਕੁਲਪ੍ਰੀਤਿਵਖਾਣੀ।
ਜਿੱਕੁਰ ਕਵਲ ਦਾ ਜਲ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਹੈ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਭਵਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਕੁਲ ਕਵਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਭੁਲਾਉਂਦੀ
As the water and the lotus love each other and the tales are told of the love between the black bee and the lotus;
ਬੂੰਦਬਬੀਹੇਮਿਰਗਨਾਦਕੋਇਲਜਿਉਫਲਅੰਬਿਲੁਭਾਣੀ।
ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕ ਸ੍ਵਾਂਤੀ ਦੀ ਬੁੰਦ ਪਰ, ਮਿਰਗ (ਘੰਡੇ ਹੇੜੇ ਦੇ) ਨਾਦ ਪੁਰ ਅਰ ਕੋਇਲ ਅੰਬ ਫਲ ਦੇ ਉਪਰ ਲੋਭ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ।
As the rain bird with the rain-drop of svati nakstr, deer with music and the nightingale with mango fruit is attached;
ਮਾਨਸਰੋਵਰੁਹੰਸੁਲਾਓਹੁਅਮੋਲਕਰਤਨਾਖਾਣੀ।
ਮਾਨ ਸਰੋਵਰ ਪਰ ਹੰਸ (ਰਹਿਕੇ) ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਅਮੋਲਕ ਰਤਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਖਾਨ (ਜਾਣਦਾ) ਹੈ।
For swans the Manasarovar is the mine of jewels;
ਚਕਵੀਸੂਰਜਹੇਤੁਹੈਚੰਦਚਕੋਰੈਚੋਜਵਿਡਾਣੀ।
ਚਕਵੀ ਦਾ ਸੂਰਜ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਹੈ, ਚੰਦ੍ਰਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਚਕੋਰ ਅਚਰਜ ਕੌਤਕ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Female reddy sheldrake loves sun; Indian red legged partidge' s love with moon is praised;
ਗੁਰਸਿਖਵੰਸੀਪਰਮਹੰਸਸਤਿਗੁਰਸਹਜਿਸਰੋਵਰੁਜਾਣੀ।
ਗੁਰ ਸਿਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਵੰਸ ਪਰਮਹੰਸ ਹੈ 'ਸਤਿਗੁਰ' ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਦਾ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਜਾਣਦੀ ਹੈ। (ਭਾਵ ਹੋਰ ਝੂਠੇ ਦੇਵੀ ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਚਿੱਕੜ ਦਾ ਛੱਪੜ ਸਮਝਕੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਡੁਲਾਉਂਦੀ। ਹੋਰ ਕੀ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ?)
Like wise, the Sikh of the Guru being the progeny of the swan of high order (paramhans) accepts the true Guru as the tank of equipoise
ਮੁਰਗਾਈਨੀਸਾਣੁਨੀਸਾਣੀ।੨੭।
ਮੁਰਗਾਬੀ ਵਾਙੂੰ ਨਦੀ ਦੇ ('ਸਾਣੀ') ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ। (ਗੱਲ ਕੀ ਕਈ ਤਰੰਗਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਭਵਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੇਖਕੇ ਡਰਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ, ਅਜਿਹਾ ਹੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਉਲਾਦ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਹੋਣਾ ਹੀ ਮੁੱਖ ਸਮਝਦੀ ਹੈ, ਦੁਨਿਆਵੀ ਕਸ਼ਟ ਅਰ ਦੁਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਵਾਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੀ।
And like a waterfowl goes to face the world ocean ( and goes across unwet).
ਪਉੜੀ੨੮
ਕਛੂਅੰਡਾਸੇਂਵਦਾਜਲਬਾਹਰਿਧਰਿਧਿਆਨੁਧਰੰਦਾ।
ਕੱਛੂ(ਆਪਣੇ) ਅੰਡੇ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਣੀ ਦੇ ਬਾਹਰ ਰੱਖ ਕੇ (ਉਸੇ ਵਿਚ) ਧਯਾਨ ਰਖਕੇ ਪਾਲ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Tortoise hatches its eggs out side water and keeping track of those rears them up.
ਕੂੰਜਕਰੇਂਦੀਸਿਮਰਣੋਪੂਰਣਬਚਾਹੋਇਉਡੰਦਾ।
ਕੂੰਜ (ਬੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਬੱਚੇ ਦਾ) ਸਿਮਰਣ ਕਰਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਇਸੇ ਕਾਰਣ) ਬੱਚਾ ਪਲਕੇ ਉੱਡਣ ਲੱਗ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
By virtue of the mother's remembrance the young one of the heron bird starts flying in the sky.
ਕੁਕੜੀਬਚਾਪਾਲਦੀਮੁਰਗਾਈਨੋਜਾਇਮਿਲੰਦਾ।
ਕੁਕੜੀ ਮੁਰਗਾਬੀ ਦਾ ਬੱਚਾ ਪਾਲਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜਦ ਜੁਆਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਦੋਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਜਾ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
The kid of waterfowl is reared up by hen but ultimately it goes to meet its mother ( waterfowl).
ਕੋਇਲਪਾਲੈਕਾਵਣੀਲੋਹੂਲੋਹੂਰਲੈਰਲੰਦਾ।
(ਅਜਿਹਾ ਹੀ) ਕਾਉਣੀ ਕੋਇਲਾਂ (ਦੇ ਬੱਚੇ) ਨੂੰ ਪਾਲਦੀ ਹੈ, (ਪਰੰਤੂ ਜਦ ਸਿਆਣਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ) ਲਹੂ ਵਿਚ ਲਹੂ ਜਾ ਰਲਦਾ ਹੈ (ਗੱਲ ਕੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਾਪਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਜਾ ਰਲਦਾ ਹੈ)
The offsprings of nightingale are nurtured by female crow but finally the blood goes to meet the blood.
ਚਕਵੀਅਤੇਚਕੋਰਕੁਲਸਿਵਸਕਤੀਮਿਲਿਮੇਲੁਕਰੰਦਾ।

ਚੰਦ ਅਰ ਸੂਰ ਕਿਹੋ ਜਿਹੇ ਹਨ)? ਚੰਦ ਸੂਰਜ ਉਹ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਕਿ ਛੀ ਰੁੱਤਾਂ ਅਰ ਬਾਰਾਂ ਮਹੀਨਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ (ਇਕੋ ਹੀ ਦਿੱਸਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।

As the black bee is happy among lilies and lotuses,
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸੁਖਫਲੁਅਲਖੁਲਖੰਦਾ।੨੮।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਆਤਮ ਫਲ ਨੂੰ ਜੋ ਕਿ ਅਲਖ (ਅਰਥਾਤ ਮਨ ਬਾਣੀ ਥੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹੈ, ਲਖ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
The gurmukhs get delighted to perceive the truth and attain the fruit of pleasures.

ਪਾਰਸਵੰਸੀਹੋਇਕੈਸਭਨਾਧਾਤੂਮੇਲਿਮਿਲੰਦਾ।
(ਪਾਰਸ) ਪਾਰਸ ਦੀ ਵੰਸ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਹੋਕੇ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਧਾਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ) ਮੇਲ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਅਜਿਹਾ ਹੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਿਖ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਘਰ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
Being of a noble family, the philosopher's stone meets all the metals (and makes them gold).
ਚੰਦਨਵਾਸੁਸੁਭਾਉਹੈਅਫਲਸਫਲਵਿਚਿਵਾਸੁਧਰੰਦਾ।
ਚੰਦਨ ਦੀ ਵਾਸ਼ਨਾ ਦਾ (ਇਹ) ਸੁਭਾਉ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਕੋਈ ਬ੍ਰਿੱਛ ਅਫਲ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਸਫਲ ਹੋਵੇ। ਚੰਦਨ ਹੀ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
The nature of the sandal is fragrant and it makes all fruitless as well as fruitful trees fragrant.
ਲਖਤਰੰਗੀਗੰਗਹੋਇਨਦੀਆਨਾਲੇਗੰਗਹੋਵੰਦਾ।
ਨਦੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਨਾਲੇ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਤਰੰਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਗੰਗਾ (ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਕੇ ਗੰਗਾ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਦਾ ਲੂਣ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਪਰ) ਦੁਧ ਪਿਲਾਉਣ (ਕਰਕੇ) ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਅਰ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਉਸ ਦਾ) ਦਾਵਾ ਮੰਨਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਭਾਵ ਪੂਰਾ ਮਾਣ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ), (ਭਾਵ ਉਹੋ ਕਿ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਚੰਦਨ ਤੁਲ ਹਨ ਨੌਕਰ ਨੂੰ ਬੀ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਯਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ, ਦਾਵੇਦਾਰ ਬਣਾ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਇਹ ਬੀ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਦਾਵਾ ਨਾਮੇ ਕੋਕਾ
And Koka also having eaten the salt of the royal household hovers around the king to serve him.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਵੰਸੀਪਰਮਹੰਸੁਗੁਰੁਸਿਖਹੰਸਵੰਸੁਨਿਬਹੰਦਾ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਦੀ ਵੰਸ ਦੇ ਪਰਮ ਹੰਸ (ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਤੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਕੇ ਸਿਖ ਹੰਸ ਦੀ ਵੰਸ ਵਾਂਙ ਨਿਭਦੇ ਹਨ। (ਭਾਵ ਮਾਨਸਰੋਵਰ ਤੋਂ ਛੁੱਟ ਹੋਰਥੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਧਰਦੇ)।
The true Guru is of the lineage of the swans of high order and the Sikhs of the Guru also abide by the tradition of the swan family.

ਪਿਉ ਦਾਦੇ ਦੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਤੁਰਦੇ ਹਨ।

ਜਿਉਲਖਤਾਰੇਚਮਕਦੇਨੇੜਿਨਦਿਸੈਰਾਤਿਅਨੇਰੇ।
ਜਿੱਕੁਰ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਤਾਰੇ ਚਮਕਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰੰਤੂ ਹਨੇਰੀ ਰਾਤ ਵਿਚ ਨੇੜੇ (ਦੀ ਚੀਜ਼) ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਸਦੀ।
Despite millions of stars shine in the sky in the darkness of night yet things are not visible even if they are kept near by.
ਸੂਰਜੁਬਦਲਛਾਇਆਰਾਤਿਨਪੁਜੈਦਿਹਸੈਫੇਰੇ।
ਸੂਰਜ ਨੂੰ ਬੱਦਲ ਵਿਚ ਦਿਨ ਚੌਫੇਰੀ ਛਾਇ ਲਵੇ (ਢਕ ਲਵੇ) ਫਿਰ ਬੀ ਰਾਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦੀ।
On the other hand even coming of the sun under the clouds, their shadow cann't change day into night.
ਜੇਗੁਰਸਾਂਗਿਵਰਤਦਾਦੁਬਿਧਾਚਿਤਿਨਸਿਖਾਂਕੇਰੇ।
ਜੇ ਗੁਰੂ 'ਸਾਂਗ ਵਰਤੇ' (ਭਾਵ ਭੇਸ ਬਦਲੇ) (ਤਦ) ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਦਲਦੇ (ਇਕ ਰਸ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦੇ)
Even if the Guru enacts any sham, the doubts are not created in the mind of the Sikhs.
ਛਿਅਰੁਤੀਇਕੁਸੁਝੁਹੈਘੁਘੂਸੁਝਨਸੁਝੈਹੇਰੇ।
ਜੋ ਛੀ ਰੁੱਤਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਇਕੋ ਸੂਰਜ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਪਰ ਉੱਲੂ) ਨੂੰ ਸੂਰਜ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿਸਦਾ, (ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ) ਉਹ (ਦਿਨੇ) ਦੇਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ। (ਭਾਵ- ਸਿਖ ਸਾਂਗ ਵਿਚ ਬੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇਖਦੇ ਹਨ, ਮਨਮੁਖ ਪਰਤੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਬੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੇਖ ਸਕਦੇ, ਮਨਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਬਦਲ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ)।
In all the six seasons, the same sun remains in the sky but the owl cannot see it .
ਚੰਦਰਮੁਖੀਸੂਰਜਮੁਖੀਕਵਲੈਭਵਰਮਿਲਨਿਚਉਫੇਰੇ।
ਜਿੱਕੁਰ ਕਮਲ ਭਾਵੇਂ (ਸੂਰਜ ਮੁਖੀ=) ਦਿਨੇ, ਚਾਹੇ (ਚੰਦ੍ਰਮੁਖੀ =) ਰਾਤੀਂ ਖਿੜਨ, ਭੌਰੇ ਚੁਫੇਰਿਓ' ਆ ਬੈਠਦੇ ਹਨ।
But lotus blossoms in the sunlight as well as in the moonlit night and the black bee starts hovering around it (because they love lotus and not the sun or the, moon ).
ਸਿਵਸਕਤੀਨੋਲੰਘਿਕੈਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਜਾਇਮਿਲਨਿਸਵੇਰੇ।
ਤਿਹਾ ਹੀ ਸਤੋ ਤਮੋ ਨੂੰ ਲੰਘ ਕੇ 'ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ' (ਸੰਤ ਸਮੂਹ) ਪ੍ਰਾਤਾਕਾਲ (ਯਾ ਛੇਤੀ) ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਜਾ ਮਿਲਦੇ ਹਨ।
Despite the illusive phenomena created by maya (i.e. Siva and Sakti) the Sikhs of the Guru, come to join the holy congregation in the ambrosial hours.
ਪੈਰੀਪਵਣਾਭਲੇਭਲੇਰੇ।੩੦।
(ਅਰ ਉਥੇ ਜਾ ਕੇ) ਭਲੇ ਤੋਂ ਭਲਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ (ਅਥਵਾ 'ਚੰਗੇ' ਮੰਦੇ ਦੀ ਬੀ) ਪੈਰੀ ਪੈਣਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
Reaching there they touch the feet of one and all good and the better one.

ਦੁਨੀਆਵਾਪਾਤਿਸਾਹੁਹੋਇਦੇਇਮਰੈਪੁਤੈਪਾਤਿਸਾਹੀ।
ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਪੁੱਤ੍ਰ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਦੇਕੇ ਮਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
The temporal king dies after handing over the kingdom to his son .
ਦੋਹੀਫੇਰੈਆਪਣੀਹੁਕਮੀਬੰਦੇਸਭਸਿਪਾਹੀ।
(ਪੁੱਤ੍ਰ) ਆਪਣੀ ਦੁਹਾਈ ਫੇਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਾਰੇ ਸਿਪਾਹੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਦੇ ਤਾਬੇਦਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ
He establishes his sway over the world and all his soldiers obey him.
ਕੁਤਬਾਜਾਇਪੜਾਇਦਾਕਾਜੀਮੁਲਾਂਕਰੈਉਗਾਹੀ।
(ਮਸੀਤ ਵਿਚ) ਜਾਕੇ ਖੁਤਬਾ ਪੜ੍ਹਵਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕਾਜ਼ੀ ਮੁੱਲਾਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਉਸ ਪਰ ਉਗਾਹੀ ਭਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
In the mosque he orders prayers to be said in his name and gaffs and the mullahs (spritual persons in the religious orders of Islam) testify for him.
ਟਕਸਾਲੈਸਿਕਾਪਵੈਹੁਕਮੈਵਿਚਿਸੁਪੇਦੀਸਿਆਹੀ।
ਟਕਸਾਲ ਵਿਖੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਿੱਕਾ ਚਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸੁਪੇਦੀ ਸ੍ਯਾਹੀ (ਭਾਵ ਭਲਾ ਬੁਰਾ ਕੰਮ ਉਸੇ ਦੇ) ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
From the mint comes out the coin in his name and every right and wrong is committed at his order.
ਮਾਲੁਮੁਲਕੁਅਪਣਾਇਦਾਤਖਤਬਖਤਚੜ੍ਹਿਬੇਪਰਵਾਹੀ।
ਮਾਲ ਮੁਲਕ ਸਾਰਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਵੰਸ ਵਿਚ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਭਾਗਾਂ ਦੇ ਤਖਤ ਪੁਰ ਚੜ੍ਹਕੇ ਬੇ-ਬੇਪਰਵਾਹੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
He controlles the property and wealth of the country and sits on the throne caring for none. (However) The tradition of the House of the Guru is that the high way shown by earlier Gurus is followed .
ਬਾਬਾਣੈਘਰਿਚਾਲਹੈਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਗਾਡੀਰਾਹੁਨਿਬਾਹੀ।
(ਪਰੰਤੂ) 'ਬਾਬਾਣੇ' (ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇ) ਘਰ ਦੀ ਇਹ ਰੀਤਿ (ਨਹੀਂ, ਇਥੇ ਰੀਤ ਇਹ ਹੈ) ਕਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਹੋਕੇ 'ਗਾਡੀ ਰਾਹ' ਨਿਬਾਹੇ (ਭਾਵ ਜੋ ਰਸਤਾ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸੋਈ ਚੱਲੇ, ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਗਯਾਨ ਉਕਰ ਨਿਰੋਲ ਦਿਤਾ ਜਾਵੇ)।
In this tradition only the one primal Lord is applauded; the mint (holy congregation) is one here;
ਇਕਦੋਹੀਟਕਸਾਲਇਕਕੁਤਬਾਤਖਤੁਸਚਾਦਰਗਾਹੀ।
(ਯਥਾ) ਇਕੋ (ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ) ਦੋਹੀ, ਇਕੋ ਟਕਸਾਲ (ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ), ਕੁਤਬਾ (ਗੁਰੂ ਬਾਣੀ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਯਾ ਬਾਣੀ ਹੇਠਾਂ) ਇਕੋ (ਨਾਮ ਨਾਨਕ) (ਇਕੋ) ਤਖਤ ਗੁਰਿਆਈ ਦੀ ਗੱਦੀ) ਸਚੀ ਦਰਗਾਹ (ਅਰਥਾਤ ਸਚੀ ਨਯਾਇ ਸਭਾ ਹੈ, ਹੋਰ ਝੂਠੀਆਂ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀਆਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਨਾਨਾ ਝਗੜੇ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਸੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਦੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਅਟ
The sermon (of Min) is one and the true throne (the spiritual seat) is also one here.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿਸੁਖਫਲੁਦਾਦਿਇਲਾਹੀ।੩੧।
ਇਲਾਹੀ ਦਾਦ (ਦੈਵੀ ਨਿਆਉਂ ਇਹ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਇਸ ਦਰਗਾਹੋਂ) ਸੁਖ ਫਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
Justice of the Lord is such that this fruit of pleasure is given to the gurmukhs by the supreme Lord.
ਪਉੜੀ੩੨
ਜੇਕੋਆਪੁਗਣਾਇਕੈਪਾਤਿਸਾਹਾਂਤੇਆਕੀਹੋਵੈ।
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪ ਗਣਾਕੇ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਆਕੀ ਹੋ ਬੈਠਦਾ ਹੈ।
If soemeone in his pride stands opposed to the king, he is killed
ਹੁਇਕਤਲਾਮੁਹਰਮਾਖੋਰੁਕਾਠੁਨਖਫਣੁਚਿਤਾਨਟੋਵੈ।
ਉਹ ਹਰਾਮੀ ਕਤਲ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਬਲਣ, ਖੱਫਣ, ਚਿਖਾ, ਕਬਰ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੁਝ) ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ।
And considering him a bastard pyre, coffin or grave are not available to him.
ਟਕਸਾਲਹੁਬਾਹਰਿਘੜੈਖੋਟੈਹਾਰਾਜਨਮੁਵਿਗੋਵੈ।
ਟਕਸਾਲੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ (ਜਿਹੜਾ) ਖੋਟ ਵਾਲਾ (ਪੈਸਾ) ਘੜਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ (ਆਪਣਾ) ਜਨਮ ਗਵਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ।
Out side the mint one who is coining fake coins is losing his life in vain , (because when caught he will be punished ).
ਲਿਬਾਸੀਫੁਰਮਾਣੁਲਿਖਿਹੋਇਨੁਕਸਾਨੀਅੰਝੂਰੋਵੈ।
ਝੂਠੇ ਹੁਕਮਨਾਮੇ ਲਿਖਣ ਹਾਰਾ ਨੁਕਸਾਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਪਿੱਛੋਂ) ਹੰਝੂਆਂ ਭਰ ਭਰਕੇ ਰੋਵੇਗਾ। (ਵੇਲਾ ਹੱਥ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਊ)
Giver of the false commands also weeps tearfully when caught.
ਗਿਦੜਦੀਕਰਿਸਾਹਿਬੀਬੋਲਿਕੁਬੋਲੁਨਅਬਿਚਲੁਹੋਵੈ।
ਗਿੱਦੜ ਵਾਂਗੂ ਜੋ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ 'ਕੁਬੋਲ' ਬੋਲਣ ਥੋਂ ਨਾਂ ਟਲੂ, (ਜਿੱਕੁਰ ਗਿੱਦੜ ਲਲਾਰੀ ਦੇ ਮੱਟ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ੇਰ ਸਮਝਕੇ ਮਿਰਗਾਵਲੀ ਨੱਠਣ ਲੱਗੀ, ਹੁਣ ਆਕੜ ਖਾਂ ਬਨ ਦਾ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਹੀ ਬਣ ਬੈਠਾ। ਓੜਕ ਇਕ ਰਾਤ ਜਦੋਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਗਿੱਦੜ ਹੁਆਂ ਹੁਆਂ ਕਰਨ ਲੱਗੇ ਉਹ ਬੀ ਬੋਲ ਉਠਿਆ, ਜਦੋਂ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਬੋਲੀ ਪਛ
A jackal pretending to be a lion may ,pose to be a commander but cannot hide his true howl (and is caught).

(ਅਜਿਹਾ ਹੀ ਅੰਤ ਨੂੰ ਉਕਤ ਝੂਠਾ ਲਿਬਾਸੀਆ), ਮੂੰਹ ਕਾਲਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਖੋਤੇ ਪੁਰ ਚੜ੍ਹਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸੁਆਹ ਪੈਂਦੀ (ਤੇ) ਭਰਿਆ ਧੋਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ ਖਪਦਾ ਹੈ)।
Similarly, the tier when caught is made to mount the ass and dust is thrown on his head . He washes himself in his tears.
ਦੂਜੈਭਾਇਕੁਥਾਇਖਲੋਵੈ।੩੨।
(ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਜੋ) ਦੂਜਾ ਭਉ (ਪ੍ਰਚਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸੋ) ਕਥਾਉਂ ਖੜੋਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
This way, the man absorbed in the duality reaches the wrong place.

ਬਾਲਜਤੀਹੈਸਿਰੀਚੰਦੁਬਾਬਾਣਾਦੇਹੁਰਾਬਣਾਇਆ।
ਸਿਰੀ ਚੰਦ (ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਪੁੱਤ੍ਰ) ਬਾਲ ਜਤੀ ਹੀ ਰਿਹਾ (ਵਿਰਕਤੀ ਪਕੜ ਲੀਤੀ) ਅਰ 'ਬਾਬਾਣਾ ਦੇਹੁਰਾ' (ਅਰਥਾਤ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾ ਦੇਹੁਰਾ ਰਾਵੀ ਦੇ ਕੰਢੇ) ਬਣਵਾਕੇ ਬੈਠ ਗਿਆ। (ਭਾਵ ਗੁਰੂ ਕੀ ਆਗ੍ਯਾ ਦੇਹੁਰਾ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ)।
Sirichand ( the elder son of Guru Nanak) is celebate since childhood who has constructed the monument ( in memory) of Guru Nanak.

(ਦੂਜੇ ਪੁੱਤ੍ਰ ਲਖਮੀ ਦਾਸ ਥੋਂ (ਜੋ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਥ ਮਾਰਗ ਵਿਖੇ ਸੀ) ਧਰਮ ਚੰਦ (ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾ) ਪੋਤਾ ਆਖਕੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪ ਗਿਣਾਉਣ ਲੱਗਾ, (ਭਾਵ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਆਪਾ ਨਾ ਛਡਿਆ)।
Dharam chand son of Laksami Das ( second son of Guru Nanak) also made display of his egotism.
ਮੰਜੀਦਾਸੁਬਹਾਲਿਆਦਾਤਾਸਿਧਾਸਣਸਿਖਿਆਇਆ।
ਦਾਸੂ ਨੂੰ (ਗੋਇੰਦਵਾਲ) ਮੰਜੀ ਪੁਰ ਬੈਠਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਅਰ ਦਾਤੂ ਸਿੰਧਾਸਨ ਲਾ ਬੈਠਾ (ਗੱਲ ਕੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਵਕਤ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਗੱਦੀ ਲਾਇਕ ਨਾ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹੋਏ, ਆਪੋ ਆਪਣੀ ਵਲ ਸੰਗਤਾਂ ਨਿਵਾਉਣ ਲੱਗੇ)।

ਪ੍ਰਿਥੀਆ 'ਮੀਣਾ' (ਅਰਥਾਤ ਕਪਟੀ) ਨਿਕਲਿਆ ਟੇਢ ਪੁਣੇ ਕਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਸੌਦਾਪੁਣਾ ਚਲਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ (ਝੂਠੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਨਾਮੇ ਲਿਖ ਭੇਜੇ)।
Prithichind (son of Guru Ram Das) came out as dissembling scoundrel and using his oblique nature spread his mental sickness all round.
ਮਹਾਦੇਉਅਹੰਮੇਉਕਰਿਕਰਿਬੇਮੁਖੁਪੁਤਾਂਭਉਕਾਇਆ।
ਮਹਾਂਦੇਉ ਨੇ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ, (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਿਥੀਏ ਨੇ) ਬੇਮੁਖ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਕੁੱਤੇ ਵਾਂਗ ਭਉਕਾਯਾ, (ਪਾਠਾਂਤਰ ਪੁੱਤਾਂ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪੁੱਤ੍ਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਬੇਮੁਖ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਭਟਕਾਯਾ ਪਰ ਇਹ ਬੀ ਪ੍ਰਸਿੱਧ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਨੇ ਵਿਆਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ਕੀਤਾ)।
Mahidev (another son of Guru Ram Das) was egotist who was also led astray.

ਚੰਦਨ ਦੀ ਵਾਸ਼ਨਾ ਨਾਲ ਵਾਂਸ ਸੁਗੰਧਤ ਨਾ ਹੋਇਆ
They all were like bamboos who though lived near sandal – Guru, yet could not become fragrant.

ਬਾਬਾਣੀਪੀੜੀਚਲੀਗੁਰਚੇਲੇਪਰਚਾਪਰਚਾਇਆ।
ਬਾਬੇ (ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ) ਦੀ ਸੰਪ੍ਰਦਾਯ ਤੁਰੀ (ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ) ਗੁਰੂ ਅਤੇ ਚੇਲੇ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪਰਚਾਰ ਹੋਇਆ।
The line of Baia Nanak increased and the love between Guru and disciples further developed.
ਗੁਰੁਅੰਗਦੁਗੁਰੁਅੰਗੁਤੇਗੁਰੁਚੇਲਾਚੇਲਾਗੁਰੁਭਾਇਆ।
ਗੁਰੂ ਅੰਗਦ ਗੁਰੂ (ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇ) ਅੰਗ ਥੋਂ ਚੇਲਾ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰ ਇੱਕ ਜੋਤ ਹੋਏ।
Guru Angad came of the limb of Guru Nanak and the disciple became fond of Guru and the Guru of the disciple .
ਅਮਰਦਾਸੁਗੁਰਅੰਗਦਹੁਸਤਿਗੁਰੁਤੇਸਤਿਗੁਰੂਸਦਾਇਆ।
ਗੁਰੂ ਅੰਗਦ ਥੋਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਅਮਰਦਾਸ ਹੋਏ, ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਥੋਂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਦਾਏ (ਭਾਵ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਬੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਕਿਹਾ ਹੈ)
From Guru Ahgad came out Amar Das who was accepted Guru after Guru Angad Dev.
ਗੁਰੁਅਮਰਹੁਗੁਰੁਰਾਮਦਾਸੁਗੁਰਸੇਵਾਗੁਰੁਹੋਇਸਮਾਇਆ।
ਗੁਰੂ ਅਮਰ ਥੋਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਰਾਮਦਾਸ ਗੁਰ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਰੂਪ ਹੋ (ਗੁਰੂ ਵਿੱਚ) ਸਮਾਏ, (ਭਾਵ ਭਿੰਨ ਭੇਦ ਰੰਚਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਿਹਾ।)
From Guru Amar Das came Guru Ram Das who through his service to the Guru absorbed in the Guru himself.
ਰਾਮਦਾਸਹੁਅਰਜਣੁਗੁਰੂਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਬ੍ਰਿਖਿਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਫਲੁਲਾਇਆ।
ਰਾਮਦਾਸ ਥੋਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਅਰਜਨ ਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬ੍ਰਿੱਛ ਥੋਂ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਫਲ ਹੀ ਲਗਾ।
From Guru Ram Das emerged Guru Arjan Dev as if from the ambrosial tree was produced ambrosia.
ਹਰਿਗੋਵਿੰਦੁਗੁਰੁਅਰਜਨਹੁਆਦਿਪੁਰਖਆਦੇਸੁਕਰਾਇਆ।
ਗੁਰੂ ਅਰਜਨੋਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਹਰਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਹੋਏ, ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਦੇਸ਼ ਕਰਾਇਆ (ਭਾਵ ਇਕ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਦ੍ਰਿੜ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਹੋਰ ਪੰਥ ਦੂਰ ਹੀ ਰੱਖੇ)।
Then from Guru Arjan Dev was born Guru Hargobind who also preached and spread the message of the primal Lord.
ਸੁਝੈਸੁਝਨਲੁਕੈਲੁਕਾਇਆ।੩੪।
ਸੂਰਜ ਦਿਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿਸੇ ਦਾ ਲੁਕਾਇਆ ਲੁਕਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ।
The sun is ever perceptible; it cannot be concealed by any one.
ਪਉੜੀ੩੫
ਇਕਕਵਾਉਪਸਾਉਕਰਿਓਅੰਕਾਰਿਕੀਆਪਾਸਾਰਾ।
ਇੱਕ ਵਾਕ ਤੋਂ 'ਓਅੰਕਾਰ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ) ਨੇ ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਪਸਾਰਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।
From one sound, the Oankar created the entire creation.
ਕੁਦਰਤਿਅਤੁਲਨਤੋਲੀਐਤੁਲਿਨਤੋਲਨਤੋਲਣਹਾਰਾ।
ਰਚਨਾ ਅਤੁੱਲ ਹੈ ਤੋਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕੀਦੀ, ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਤੱਕੜੀ ਵੱਟੇ, ਅਰ ਤੋਲਣਹਾਰਾ (ਤੰਨੇ) ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ।
His sport of creation is immeasurable. None is there who can take its measure.
ਸਿਰਿਸਿਰਿਲੇਖੁਅਲੇਖਦਾਦਾਤਿਜੋਤਿਵਡਿਆਈਕਾਰਾ।
ਹਰੇਕ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਪੁਰ ਅਲੇਖ ਦਾ ਲੇਖ ਹੈ (“ਚਲੀ ਲੋਹ ਕਲਮੰ ਲਿਖਿਓ ਲੇਖ ਮਾਥੈ'॥) ਜੋਤ, ਵਡਿਆਈ (ਸਭ) ਕਰਮ (ਉਸੇ ਦੀ) ਦਾਤ ਹੈ (ਯਥਾ:”ਦਾਤ ਜੋਤਿ ਖਸਮੋ ਵਡਿਆਈ”॥)
The writ has been inscribed on the forehead of each creature; light, grandeur and action are all due to His grace.
ਲੇਖੁਅਲੇਖੁਨਲਖੀਐਮਸੁਨਲੇਖਣਿਲਿਖਣਿਹਾਰਾ।
ਲੇਖੇ ਥੋਂ ਅਲੇਖ ਹੈ, ਲਿਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੇ, ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਸ਼ਾਹੀ, ਲਿੱਖਣ ਅਰ ਲਿਖਣਹਾਰਾ (ਕੋਈ) ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ। (ਯਥਾ: “ਕਬੀਰ ਸਾਤ ਸਮੁੰਦਹਿ ਮਸੁ ਕਰਉ ਕਲਮ ਕਰਉ ਬਨਰਾਇ॥ ਬਸੁਧਾ ਕਾਗਦ ਜਉ ਕਰਉ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਲਿਖਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ-”।)
His writ is imperceptible; the writer and His inl are also invisible.
ਰਾਗਨਾਦਅਨਹਦੁਧੁਨੀਓਅੰਕਾਰੁਨਗਾਵਣਹਾਰਾ।
ਰਾਗਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਦ ਦੀਆਂ ਅਨਾਹਦ ਧੁਨੀਆਂ ਹੋ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਤਦ ਬੀ ਓਅੰਕਾਰ (ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਰੰਗ) ਗਾਉਣ ਵਿਖੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਆ ਸਕਦਾ।
Various musics, tones and rythms ate ever on but even rthen the Onkaar cannot be properly serenaded.
ਖਾਣੀਬਾਣੀਜੀਅਜੰਤੁਨਾਵਥਾਵਅਣਗਣਤਅਪਾਰਾ।
ਖਾਣੀਆਂ ਅਨਗਿਣਤ ਹਨ ਅਰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਜੀਵ ਜੰਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਉਂ ਅਤੇ ਥਾਉਂ ਅਵਾਰ ਰਚੇ ਹਨ।
Mines, speeches, creatures names and places are infinite and uncountable.
ਇਕੁਕਵਾਉਅਮਾਉਹੈਕੇਵਡੁਵਡਾਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰਾ।
ਇਕ ਵਾਕ (ਜਿਸ ਤੋਂ ਪਸਾਰਾ ਪਸਰਿਆ ਹੈ) ਮਿਣਤੀਓਂ ਬਾਹਰ ਹੈ, ਰਚਨਹਾਰ ਕਿੱਡਾ ਕੁ ਵੱਡਾ (ਆਖੀਏ)
His one sound is beyond all limits; how expansive that creator is cannot be explained .
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿਸਤਿਗੁਰਨਿਰੰਕਾਰਾ।੩੫।੨੬।ਛਵੀਹ।
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਖੇ “ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ” (ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ) ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਹਨ।
That true Guru , formless Lord is there and available in the holy congregation (alone)
