ਜੈਸੇਖਾਂਡਖਾਂਡਕਹੈਮੁਖਿਨਹੀਮੀਠਾਹੋਇਜਬਲਗਜੀਭਸ੍ਵਾਦਖਾਂਡੁਨਹੀਂਖਾਈਐ।
ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਖੰਡ ਖੰਡ ਆਖਦਿਆਂ ਓਦੋਂ ਤਕ ਮੂੰਹ ਮਿੱਠਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਇਆ ਕਰਦਾ, ਜਦੋਂ ਤਕ ਕਿ ਜੀਭ ਨਾਲ ਸ੍ਵਾਦ ਲੈਂਦਿਆਂ ਹੋਇਆਂ ਖੰਡ ਨੂੰ ਖਾਈਏ ਨਾ।
Just as by saying sugar, sugar, one cannot feel sweet taste of sugar in the mouth. Unless sugar is placed on the tongue, it cannot feel its taste.
ਜੈਸੇਰਾਤਅੰਧੇਰੀਮੈਦੀਪਕਦੀਪਕਕਹੈਤਿਮਰਨਜਾਈਜਬਲਗਨਜਰਾਈਐ।
In a dark night, saying lamp, lamp does not dispel darkness unless lamp is lit.
ਜੈਸੇਗਿਆਨਗਿਆਨਕਹੈਗਿਆਨਹੂੰਨਹੋਤਕਛੁਜਬਲਗੁਗੁਰਗਿਆਨਅੰਤਰਿਨਪਾਈਐ।
ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਗਿਆਨ ਗਿਆਨ ਆਖਿਆਂ, ਜਦ ਤਕ ਗੁਰੂ ਗਿਆਨ ਅੰਦਰ ਹੀ ਨਾ ਆ ਵਸੇ, ਕੁਛ ਕਿਸੇ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ਦਾ ਗਿਆਨ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਿਆ ਕਰਦਾ।
Just by saying Gian (Knowledge) again and again, knowledge cannot be obtained. It can only be acquired by lodging His name in the heart.
ਤੈਸੇਗੁਰਧਿਆਨਕਹੈਗੁਰਧਿਆਨਹੂਨਪਾਵਤਜਬਲਗੁਗੁਰਦਰਸਜਾਇਨਸਮਾਈਐ।੫੪੨।
ਤਿਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਗੁਰ ਧਿਆਨ ਆਖਦੇ ਆਖਦੇ, ਜਦੋਂ ਤਕ ਗੁਰੂ ਕੇ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਵਿਚ ਸਮਾ ਹੀ ਨਾ ਜਾਈਏ ਗੁਰੂ ਧਿਆਨ ਭੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਿਆ ਕਰਦਾ ॥੫੪੨॥
Similarly just repeatedly asking for a glimpse of True Guru, one cannot acquire contemplation of the True Guru. This is possible only when one engrosses oneself up to the soul in the ardent desire of a glimpse of the True Guru. (542)
