ਜਿਵੇਂ ਤੇਲੀ ਦਾ ਬਲਦ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਕਈ ਕਹ ਚਲ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ, ਪਰ ਖੋਪੇ ਲਹਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਸਾਰ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਉਘੜਦਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਕੀ ਦੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮੇਰਾ ਤਾਂ ਉਸੇ ਥਾਵੇਂ ਹੀ ਠਿਕਾਣਾ ਹੈ ਭਾਵ ਜਿਥੇ ਸਾਂ ਉਥੇ ਦਾ ਉਥੇ ਹੀ ਖੜਾ ਹਾਂ।
Just as a blind folded bullock of an oilman keeps going around the extractor and he thinks he has travelled many miles, but when his blindfold is removed, sees himself standing at the same place.
ਜੈਸੇਜੇਵਰੀਬਟਤਆਂਧਰੋਅਚਿੰਤਚਿੰਤਖਾਤਜਾਤਬਛੁਰੋਟਟੇਰੋਪਛੁਤਾਨੋਹੈ।
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਬੇਫਿਕਰ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਰੱਸੀ ਵੱਟੀ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਨਾਲੋ ਨਾਲ ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਵੱਛਾ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਖਾਈ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਜਦ ਉਹ ਟਟੋਲ ਕੇ ਦੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਰੱਸੀ ਹੁਣ ਤਾਂ ਬੜੀ ਲੰਮੀ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੋਵੇਗੀ, ਪਰ ਰੱਸੀ ਵੱਛਾ ਖਾ ਗਿਆ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਪਛੁਤਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Just as a blind person keeps twisting a rope without care when at the same time, the calf is eating it. But when he feels for the work done by him so far, repents to know that much of it has been eaten away;
ਜੈਸੇਮ੍ਰਿਗਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾਲੌਧਾਵੈਮ੍ਰਿਗਤ੍ਰਿਖਾਵੰਤਆਵਤਨਸਾਂਤਿਭ੍ਰਮਭ੍ਰਮਤਹਿਰਾਨੋਹੈ।
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਤ੍ਰਿਹਾਇਆ ਹਰਨ ਮ੍ਰਿਗ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਵੱਲ ਦੌੜਦਾ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਉਂਦਾ ਤੇ ਭਰਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਥੱਕ ਕੇ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Just as a deer keeps running towards a mirage, but the absence of water does not satiate his thirst and he feels distressed wandering.

ਤਿਵੇਂ ਮੇਰੀ ਲੰਮੀ ਉਪਰ ਭੀ ਸੁਪਨੇ ਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਚਾਰੋਂ ਦਿਸ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਭ੍ਰਮਦਿਆਂ ਬੀਤ ਗਈ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਉਥੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਸਕਿਆ ਜਿਥੇ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਜਾਣਾ ਸੀ ॥੫੭੮॥
Similarly, wandering in the country and beyond, I have spent my life in a dream. I have not been able to reach where I had to go. (I have failed to re-unite myself with God). (578)
